Movies I watched this Week # 142 (Year 3/Week 38):

Mark Kermore just resigned from his post as The Observor's film critic after 10 years, and in his last article he listed his top films from 2013 until now. His most favourite? Bait, which he called “the defining British film of the decade”, by new Cornish filmmaker Mark Jenkin. It is indeed a visually-different, experimental-like masterpiece, shot in splotchy black & white, like a grainy, monochrome Tarkovsky. 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. 8/10. I'll watch his recent film 'Enys Men' next (even though I don't usually care for 'British Folk Horror').

🍿 Meantime, my 9th beloved film by British mensch Mike Leigh, another story about the plight of a lower working class family, living in a dystopian Clockwork Orange tenement. Uncomfortable viewing about dreary, miserable lives, mired in poverty and hopelessness during the 1979 "Revolution". With teenager Tim Roth, young Alfred Molina, and psychotic skinhead Gary Oldman. Tragic And heartbreaking. 7/10.

🍿 El Conde, my second by Chilean Pablo Larrain (after 'Spencer'). A black comedy horror metaphor that tried to humanize Augusto Pinochet, by making him a blood-sucking vampire. Like 'Jojo Rabbit', it caused me nothing but distress, especially now on the 50th anniversary of Pinochet cruel coup. It opened with the most unpleasant voiceover, which turned out to be Margaret Thatcher, the other despicable puppet master from that time, here playing the fascist's mother. He went for Magical Realism, but he was no Gabriel García Márquez. 4/10.

The quiet girl, my 3rd or 4th re-watch of this tender, magnificent gem, one of my most cherished films from 2022. An illustration of Care vs. Neglect. My mom told me about this beautiful story she was reading, and which was the basis for this film, and I was delighted to introduce her to this sublime masterpiece, which we watched together. 10/10.

First watch! Charlie Chaplin's 1915 silent movie The tramp, the first time he introduced his signature character proper. Filmed in Niles, California, which is today Fremont, and then was a budding film town.

Objector, a very Israeli 2019 documentary about a young woman who refuses to serve in the army, becomes a conscientious objector, and even serves 110 days in a military prison. As an ex-Israeli and as a guy unwilling to join the army in 1970, this affair was specifically very relevant to me. My hatred for the Israeli occupation is immense, and the story told here was desperately tragic and heartbreaking. Unfortunately, as a movie, it wasn’t very good, probably because the director was inexperienced. That most of the characters spoke English among themselves was another big drawback.

I never heard about comic genius ventriloquist Nina Conti (Tom Conti's daughter) until finding her on r/nextfuckinglevel. Watching a bunch of her YouTube clips, this pretty, sexy, hilarious comic is superbly creative. In 2012, she wrote and directed a personal documentary, Her master’s Voice. In it she travels to an odd international ventriloquist convention in Kentucky (Photo Above). But it's mostly a tribute to a man, Ken Campbell, who just died. He's the one who had introduced her to the puppets years ago but he also was her lover, when she was in her twenties, and he was in his sixties. Brilliant. 9/10.

Another re-watch of occasional random 'Mad Men' episode, Signal 30 from S5 E5. That's the one with the dripping faucet in Pete's kitchen, and the visit to the whorehouse, which ends in a fiasco. Co-written by Frank Pierce (who also directed 'Conspiracy'). Another example of the superb ensemble drama, featuring dozens of complex characters. "A thing like that"... 9/10.

Jeff who lives at home, my second film directed by the Duplass Brothers, the "other" writer-director brother-duo. And this too is an "indie" comedy-drama about two brothers at odds with each other. What a different and how much better film it would have been, if indeed The Coens were the ones doing it. 3/10.

2012, a Roland Emmerich's big budget disaster extravaganza from 2009, about the end of the world. CGI science fiction popcorn is usually not my gig, but I stuck out and watched all 158 minutes of it. Who pays to see these kind of mindless garbage movies? 1/10.

RIP JANE POWELL

1929-2021

Jane Powell was born in Portland, Oregon, as Suzanne Lorraine Burce.  Through the 1940s and 1950s, she had a successful career in movie musicals. However, in 1957, her career in films ended, as she had outgrown her innocent girl-next-door image. She has made brief returns to acting in front of the camera - on television, in commercials, and in a workout video. She had a variety of roles on stage after the end of her movie career. 

Powell’s greatest fame came as the star of MGM’s Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954) which was referenced on the “I Love Lucy” episode “Lucy in the Swiss Alps” (ILL S5;E21) in 1956, and In “Ricky Needs an Agent” (ILL S4;E29) as “Seven Brides for Seven Cubans” when agent Lucille McGilliucuddy is proposing possible projects for Ricky so that MGM won’t release him from his contract. But, inevitably, ”He’s released.”

Lucille Ball and Jane Powell appeared on the same television programs three times. On Valentine’s Day 1954, Ed Sullivan’s TOAST OF THE TOWN presented “MGM’s 30th Anniversary Tribute”. As new MGM stars for their film The Long, Long Trailer, Lucy and Desi walked the red carpet along with Powell, who later performed “The Jewel Song” from Faust.  She was also seen in a clip from MGM’s Royal Wedding (1951). 

In 1985, Powell joined Lucille Ball, Lucie Arnaz, and 97 other celebrities for “Night of 100 Stars II” at Radio City Music Hall. 

Finally, both Powell and Ball were seen in “Happy 100th Birthday, Hollywood” on May 18, 1987. This was a two-hour special on ABC TV that won an Emmy for editing.

Jane Powell was married five times and had three children. She was 92 years old.

So I saw a post about the eras of the Glee fandom and I am in the Resurgence Era. I began watching the show back in May 2020. I know people like to make fun of the show a lot, and I totally understand, but I unironically enjoy this show. Well maybe not a majority of S4-S6, but I like the music, the comedy, the heartfelt moments, the zany characters. But I can also see how even in the early seasons, which people hail as Glee's Peak, how it could have been better. (1/?)

With the exception of a few song changes and polishing clunky dialogue, there isn't much I would change in S1 or S2 (although I would cut down on the cheating plotlines in S2). S3 should have been about the club finally being unified with almost no infighting, and they shouldn't have tried to cram so many PSAs into one season AND Santana's coming out story should have had more focus than it got (and it should have been handled more sensitively period) But the music in S3 still rocked.

In S4-S6 I can see almost exactly when people began dropping from the fandom and I understand why. S4 through S5 (especially S5) seemed to be flailing for some sense of direction with the characters and juggled too many nonsensical (and often tone deaf) storylines for it to be coherent. S6 saved it from ending disastrously, but by then it was too late to truly save the show. Not to mention Ryan Murphy's unprofessionalism leading to actor drama and just butchered story lines.

But I can see how the show could progressed coherently and satisfyingly. In S3-S4 the New Directions should have become the champions for the underdogs. In S4 with most of them graduating, they should have had the theme of branching out into the big world beyond their small, closeminded town in Ohio. S5 could have been them getting too big for their britches and then failing because of arrogance. Then S6, they go back to Lima as a humbling reminder of where they started.

In S6, with the allotted 22 episodes they should have had, they could have started up the Glee club again, and be reminded why they joined in the first place. It makes me sad that bad writing and Ryan Murphy's unprofessionalism tanked a show that had all the groundwork for being absolutely amazing. Glee is many things: wacky, musical, bizarre, heartfelt, frustrating, insensitive, sometimes all those things in the same episode, but when it was good, there was nothing else like it.

I mean that last plot is basically what they tried to do but just with Rachel while everyone puttered around for ten episodes before they wrapped all the pointless crap up. I mean I was never a fan of them having to go back to Ohio in the final season just bc they’d already done it multiple times by then and it’s like can we please see something new?? All I wanted for the last two seasons was all my faves and a few guest stars in NY lmao. It’s still an ensemble show with like 7-10 characters and some good guest stars, right?? 

Also like I’ve sort of said this before lately but. S2 is a hot damn mess. If you didn’t have Kurt or Klaine and you didn’t have Santana or Brittana?? That season would be nothing lol. Maybe it’s just me but idk all the het nonsense that season really drags it down for me. And s3 is fucking awful but that’s what so many people cite as their favorite. Which to me it just proves that people talking about “it was really good at first then sharply declined when everyone graduated” is complete bullshit and it’s just people looking at the seasons they actually watched through rose colored glasses and just saying it got 100% when they stopped being interested in it. 

And I swear I’m not trying to just shit on everything you’re saying lmao but again people saying s3 had the best music of all but like. I dunno I think DWS had the best music and was the best actual tribute ep. Michael also had really good performances. Then there’s maybe five other performances I’d put in the iconic tier lol. Idk I think it’s overrated all around and I just hate s3 so damn much (: But yes it does have some good music

But anyway your last paragraph. If I could rewrite Glee with 20/20 hindsight I would have the s4 and s6 newbies switch. So the new and interesting characters for s6 are introduced earlier and actually bring something new to the table. And then in s6 we get the wannabe copies of the oldies so that when all the alums are there, they pick out the person that reminds them most of their high school selves to mentor them. So like Thanksgiving but for like half the season or whatever lol. And it’s like sweet and nostalgic for them to sort of see themselves at the start of their friendship again and to give everyone the advice they wished they knew back in the day. Stuff like that. Could’ve been cute

And idk I don’t agree with everyone else saying s5 sucked lol. I mean obviously one of the contributing factors to the strangeness and sloppiness was one of their main characters dying and having to write around that. And poor Sam having to fill Finn’s crap shoes and become Finn 2.0 and I think you can see that best with the nurse Penny stuff. But idk I mean there’s twerking and puppets which are nonsensical and only one of those things comes off as tone deaf to me. I don’t think it’s as bad as people wanna say. But after the boringness of them coming back to Ohio for the glee club in the middle of the season?? And then my favorite characters are in NY after that?? Those are some of my absolute favorite episodes. I mean I’m in my top 40 glee ranking episodes and I’ve got 5 eps just from the back half of season five to go. I love it. It’s some of my favorite Glee

Although I still agree that s1 is the best. And that’s with the show focusing mainly on Mr. Schue, Finchel, and Quick. And I still adore it as much as I do. Season one really is something special. I mean just about every season is like watching a different show. And no one is going to agree on what they like best or why. But idk I’m just glad everyone in the fandom has something to hold onto.

When you think about it, Octavia’s arc actually makes a lot of sense.

Octavia has always been an antisocial girl and an insecure young woman. She grew up hidding under the floor on the Ark, with no human/social interactions (except her mom and her brother) for 16 years. Her mother died when she was very young (btw she was floated for having Octavia, try not to feel guilty for the rest of your life after that...) so the main person Octavia’s been talking to is Bellamy. She never left her bedroom except for that one time where she got arrested and put in a prison cell. She was sentenced to death just for being born.

When the Hundreds were sent to the ground, not only she had to learn to survive; she also had to learn how to socialise. How to belong in a group and be a part of something bigger than herself. A society. For the first time.

For someone who basically had no soft skills (communication skills, for instance) that must have been pretty hard. And pretty scary. My theory is Octavia has always felt very insecure about not fitting in, not being good enough for people to like and appreciate her, not finding a home on Earth. My guess is she was terrified her life on Earth would be like on the Ark: that she would end up isolated, scared and alone.

And that’s why she had to find something that would make her unique. When she met Lincoln, she learnt that she could fight. And that she was quite good at it - especially compared to the Hundreds. That’s what made her valuable. Suddenly she was a hero, someone that the Hundreds needed in order to survive. Her fighting skills made her special.

But then she became... too special. Too much like a Grounder. And Grounders were the enemy back then. She was judged for being too close to Lincoln, even by her own friends. Her loyalty was questioned by her peers. People suddenly looked down on her for the way she dressed, talked and acted. Even her fighting style became a problem: she wouldn’t use guns... just like the Grounders. Even Bellamy, her own brother, didn’t like it.

She didn’t belong with the Hundreds anymore. She knew she couldn’t stay with them. But then again, she wasn’t a true Grounder either. Not really. And she knew she would never be looked at as anything else than a sky person - no matter how hard Lincoln would try to educate her and teach her their way of living.

Octavia didn’t belong anywhere again.

Maybe if she had agreed to follow Lincoln when he suggested they ran away together to avoid war... She could have found her peace then. Lincoln had always been her home. He made her feel safe. She belonged with him and she had never been happier than when she was with him.

She felt so honored when she became Indra’s second. In s5 she even says it was the happiest day of her life. Finally, she had found a place in this world and a person who understood and respected her skills. It must have felt so good. Truth is Octavia really, truly, deeply liked being a warrior. It was a role she could assume easily and where she felt like she was needed. ´Warrior’ is a title she learnt to look up to, and value a lot. Lincoln and Indra were both warriors and they were both the two people Octavia respected and loved the most.

Being called a warrior made her feel strong, confident and powerful. No more insecurities. No more fears. She was no longer the girl hidden under the floor, or the lost delinquent trying to find her place on Earth. Now, she was a well respected member of a community. I believe she chose to define herself as a warrior, because it was the only thing that made her feel good about herself : like she had some honorable value whatsoever.

When Lincoln died, Octavia lost everything. For the first time in a long long time, she was vulnerable. She couldn’t feel safe or strong or powerful anymore. All she could feel was her sadness, her loss, her pain. It was too much for her, she was scared that without Lincoln, she wouldn’t be worth anything. She couldn’t face these feelings, so she built up a wall inside of her. I believe that’s why she turned the word ‘warrior’ into her whole identity. That’s why she acted so tough during s3 and s4. She used it like a shield to protect herself from her pain and misery. To fill the void inside of her left by Lincoln’s death because she couldn’t grieve.

A good example of that is her relationship with Illian. She almost killed herself in the black rain, just to avoid these painful feelings. She begged him to make her feel something else. Something else than pain. And then, even after they had sex, all she could think about was the war happening and how she wasn’t in it... She was so broken at this point. Lincoln’s death destroyed her completely. The only way for her to move on is to take on what she thought was Lincoln’s legacy and keep fighting.

And so, she had to rebuild herself. That’s why she choose to go to Polis and fight in the Conclave: to honor Lincoln. Her face paint was a good representation of that. In her mind, Lincoln was brave, he was a warrior. And so she had to be one too. She had to fight, because Lincoln never stopped fighting. And if Lincoln never stopped fighting, there must be hope at the end of the line. Even for her.

And hope she brought, by uniting all the clans. She offered a place in a bunker to a 100 people of the 12 different clans. Salvation for everyone (including herself). She created Wonkru (first) as a tribute to Lincoln. Because that’s what he would have done. Because he believed in peace. Because he wanted to bring people together, even during his last days on Earth. Octavia wanted to commemorate that.

The problem is... So far, Octavia strickly and only defined herself as a warrior, not as a leader. She refused that role for a long time, doubting herself, fearing people wouldn’t follow her, thinking she couldn’t do it. Which makes sense considering what she’d been through on the Ark and her vision of leadership. Her chancellor floated her mother, one of the two people she ever knew and loved. Plus, her experience with leadership on the ground wasn’t exactly the best example either : Bellamy (we do whatever the hell we want, killing the firt boy she ever kissed and had a crush on, torturing Lincoln...), Jaha (besides from floating her mom, bringing the city of light into Arkadia and Polis and forcing people to take a chip to be manipulated by an AI), Pike (hating all grounders alike, organising a massacre resulting in 300 Grounder deaths, and executing Lincoln)...

But now, by winning the Conclave and creating Wonkru, she became the leader of the last surviving people of the human race. And first of all, that’s a lot of pressure for a deeply insecure, messed-up, broken, still mourning, inexperienced young woman.

But most of all, Octavia was no Clarke. And she knew it. Cause let’s be real. Throughout the show, no matter who was the chancellor/commander/leader, Clarke was really in charge.

Except Clarke had learnt how to lead by now. Lexa even said Clarke was born to lead. Since s1 se automatically took control of things because it’s in her nature to care about others and to be in charge. What made her a good leader is that she knew how to make impossible choices and take tough decisions if needed to (the big attack at the dropship in s1, Mount Weather in s2, destroying the city of life in s3, etc.). But Clarke never lost her hope, her moral values and most of all her humanity in the process. Despite everything, Clarke was always trying to avoid the worst outcome, trying to save as many people as she could. She would always study all of her options beforehand, and almost always she would try to find a non-violent solution first (in Mount Weather, for instance, her first plan was a rescue mission with Lexa; then she tried to negociate with Wallace for the release of her people, and when there was no other option, she pulled the trigger). She generally values peace and will try to avoid war as much as possible (she met with Anya on the bridge, she proposed a truce to Lexa, she made an alliance with Roan...). She could sometimes spare a life, even a life of a traitor or an enemy (Emerson, for instance!). She took risks herself in order to save everyone (besides from sacrifying herself so that her friend could go to space, she also didn’t hesitate to inject herself nightblood bone marrow instead of just using emori). Now, let me be clear. She ain’t perfect, that’s for sure. She screwed up more than once, who hasn’t ? But in such a terrible setting, being faced with impossible choices, she always tried to do her best and to chose the "best option" available (considering the context, the information she had at the time, etc.)

Besides, even at the end, she could still draw a line between the good and the bad. It doesn’t mean she never crossed that line. She did. But at least she was aware of the cruelty, the violence and the consequences of her actions. It was never easy for her to take any of these decisions. And she still feels guilty about it now, to the point she hates herself, but she knows it was her job to "bear it so they don’t have to". To be the bad guy sometimes so that her people could live. To make hard choices - even if it meant being hated by people she cared about - so that her people could have a clear conscience in the end. As a good leader should.

In a word, Clarke didn’t sacrifice herself, her sanity or her humanity, in order to be able to lead her people. Octavia did.

Oh boy, she really did. And I think it’s because Octavia knew that she couldn’t be like Clarke. She knew she couldn’t be tough, take hard decisions and still keep her moral compass. She knew she couldn’t be strong enough to lead 12 clans of grounders (without the legitimacy of the flame!) and remain the same Octavia that she was before going to that bunker. She knew she couldn’t keep her humanity because the guilt would kill her off. Besides, in 5x11 (i think?) we see her taking a piece of glass and almost cut her wrist because she can’t take it anymore, but at the last time she changes her mind. It wasn’t the first time she did that, in my opinion. She knew that if she was gonna be a ruler, she had to go all in. She had to become absolutely ruthless; otherwise she wouldn’t be able to take the hard decisions. She had to throw away her moral values, she had to shut down that part of herself who cared, who loved, who felt things. She couldn’t allow the little girl she was to come back and compromise the survival of the human race. She couldn’t allow herself to be weak, the stakes were too high.

So she created Blodreina. A ruthless leader. A persona that could lead strongly, take the hard decisions, and show no mercy. Not even for Indra or Kane. Someone who could do all of these horrible things without feeling guilty. And years after years, Octavia disappeared a bit more. And Blodreina grew stronger.

And, so, this dictator ruled Wonkru for 6 years. That’s how long Blodreina reigned and slowly took control over Octavia. The real problem with Octavia in s5 isn’t what she did during the Dark Year; it’s what she did after that.

First of all, cannibalism wasn’t even her idea. It was Abby’s. Octavia never wanted this, she tried to fight it but Abby pushed it, saying it was the only thing to do in order to survive. And when some people refused to eat, Abby (again!) was the one saying she should punish by death the one who wouldn’t follow her order.

Second of all, in that context, it probably was the only option for them. At that point, they believed they were the last humans on Earth. They had to survive, it made sense that, as a leader, Octavia had to consider every option available. And there was only one, as terrible as it sounded. Taking away people’s choice in that matter was the limit Octavia should have never crossed. But Abby insisted and said not forcing people to eat would be the worst choice possible to make and would lead them all to starvation... So in a way, there, Blodreina was useful. She avoided the worst scenario possible. And it sort of made sense back then.

Third of all, no one stood by her during that time : not Kane, not Abby, not even Indra. They were with her, they advised her, they followed her, they ate, sure. But who actually had to create and impose that rule? Octavia. Who had to look like the bad guy in front of her people? Octavia. Who had to eat first? Octavia. Who had to kill those who wouldn’t obey? Octavia. Who had to organise, watch and regulate the fights in the arena? Octavia. Who had to stay strong no matter how horrifying their everyday life was? Octavia. Abby didn’t move a finger (while it was all her idea). Kane ended up by obeying but made it clear he was against the idea. Indra didn’t talk about it. It was a burden she had to carry alone (at least Clarke had Bellamy!). She would have needed emotional support, someone to share the weight of her choices with, someone to talk to about her feelings, etc. But she didn’t have that.

So I don’t blame Octavia for what happened in the Dark Year. She did what she had to, there was no other option. She didn’t like it, she didn’t want it, and she had to bear that choice on her own because no one else supported her like they should have. The fighting pit, which was at the beginning what looked like a (sort of) fair way to bring justice, became a source of food, a tool, a way to survive.

But after the Dark Year, not only Octavia kept the fighting pit (which was no longer needed now that Wonkru faithfully followed her and that the Dark Year had passed) but she increased the number of fights. She gave herself the power to judge the fights and condamn people to fight again before earning their freedom. The deal wasn’t fair anymore for the fighters. She even threw in people she knew were innocent (Kane, for instance). So much for justice. The opinion of Wonkru as spectators became very important: if people weren’t satisfied with the fight, Blodreina would force people to fight anyway. Indra warned Bellamy: being the last person standing wasn’t enough. They had to make a show, they had to perform.

Octavia turned the fighting pit into sports, as Kane said. As a way of entertainment.

Octavia impersonated Blodreina when Wonkru needed a strong, ruthless leader who could carry them into the dark... But then, Blodreina took control for so long that Octavia forgot who she was. She played the ruthless ruler card too much that she lost her humanity in the process. And when she got out of the bunker, she didn’t know what to do. She didn’t know how to move on from the horror she inflicted. She didn’t know how to get back to "normal".

Shallow Valley became her salvation. The justification she needed all along for all of her terrible actions in that bunker. The one thing that would make everything okay again. If she could only get her people to that safe eden, then everything she had done to survice would make sense. She was so focused on that goal that she blinded herself.

That scene with Indra, before the battle for Shallow Valley, is so heartbreaking. When she says, "When we get to that valley, everything will make sense. Everything we did to survive will be worth it", you can see that it’s actually Octavia talking (not Blodreina). She is telling Indra : please, let’s trust Blodreina just one more time, and then it will all be over. I think that she (Octavia) wants peace, deep down. She keeps repeating that, but she’s still afraid of leading Wonkru as Octavia. She has only earned their respect with Blodreina. Blodreina kept them alive during the Dark Year. Blodreina truly united Wonkru. Octavia still doesn’t think she can lead by herself, without that persona.

So Octavia shuts herself down to let Blodreina lead them again. And Blodreina wants war more than anything else. She would never surrender. And most importantly, she decides to take away people’s choice again, except this time she didn’t need to (like when she burnt the hydrofarm for instance). But that makes sense, because she only cares about one thing: winning the war, no matter what.

To conclude: Octavia’s journey is really hard to rewatch. Especially when you see her in s1 so young, happy and playful... But it makes sense. Yes, Octavia became a ruthless dictator who took away people’s will. Blodreina is the villain of the story in s5 (at least one of them). Her actions are beyond cruel and insensitive. A lot of people will die because of her decisions. She’s acting like a maniac half the time and she is (clearly) very mentally messed-up. i’m not standing by her side, saying I approve what she did or even that I find her likeable in her own way. I don’t even know if redemption is possible at this point. She might be gone too far.

But I just think her story is interesting in the sense that she has been falling down ever since Lincoln’s death and the persona she created, Blodreina, seems to be a result of her deep trauma, her pain, and her insecurities. She’s a broken, traumatised girl who has been put in a very hard position as an inexperienced and self-doubting leader in (possibly) the worst circonstances ever. Yeah, I’m not really surprised that it turned out this way.

Plus, now the valley is lost forever. Everything Octavia did (in the bunker and outside in s5) was for nothing. People died for nothing. And, unfortunately for her, she was wrong when she was talking to Indra before the battle : no, everything was not worth it... nothing makes sense. I doubt she will be able to get over that. She needed this win to be able to move on, to justify her actions, to find her peace. Without it, she’s just very susceptible to fall into old patterns of self-destruction. Plus, Bellamy really doesn’t seem ready to give her forgiveness (the one thing that might save her... at least that’d be a good start). And she’s not ready to receive it, either. Sadly, she might never be ready to really accept it.

The Magnus Archives cast (or at least everyone I can remember who's still alive at the end of S4) ranked by how likely I think they are to survive season 5:

Jonelias Magnechard: Local Avatar Of The Eye Ruins Everyone Else's Doomsday Plans By Cultivating Super-Archivist Who Hates His Guts. Get Rekt Jonah. 0/10 chance of survival.

Julia Montauk: I don't think Julia remembers what a sense of perspective is. I also don't think she realizes that the easily-kidnapped weirdo she's been after for a while had not fully come into his power as an Avatar last time she tried to stab him. She's not likely to stop until something stops her, and that thing is not going to be a well-reasoned argument. 1/10 chance of survival.

Trevor Herbert: Trevor's chances would be a lot better if he wasn't currently babysitting Julia, honestly. He's proven capable of caution and pacing himself in the past, but that doesn't do him much good when he's backing her up. 2/10 chance of survival.

Daisy Tonner: More than likely, the long arc of her messy relationship with accountability and vulnerability is going to catch up with her. She might take some motherfuckers down with her. She might take some friends down with her. Either way, it's going to be messy. 2/10 chance of survival, and even if she does survive, the thing that walks away is unlikely to be recognizable as Daisy.

Basira Hussein: Arguments that she was right and should have been allowed to just kill Jon aside, Basira's motivations have been growing increasingly counter to the main themes of the show and she started out as a commentary on toxic codependency in positions of authority. I suspect she's on a tragic arc, and it'll end badly for her. Which doesn't necessarily mean she'll die horribly, but it's a strong possibility. 4/10 chance of survival.

Simon Fairchild: On the one hand, he's one of the most formidable Avatars left that has any direct interaction with the cast, and may well come into conflict with them before the show's over. On the other hand, as far as I can tell he's survived since the fifteenth century purely on the strength of being too expansively annoying to die. Could go either way. 5/10 chance of survival.

Helen: The Distortion itself is probably going to be ok; even with all the Entities fully manifest, I doubt something so deeply of the Spiral exists on a level that can be fully stamped out. Helen herself may or may not be the face of the Distortion by the end, but then, it's always been hard to say to what degree the Distortion's humanoid manifestations are independent of the main monster.💫 /10 chance of survival.

Annabelle Cane: She's got her fingers in a few too many pies to be really safe, but she's very good at staying three steps ahead of everyone else. If she dies, it's probably because she gives someone sufficient motivation to beat her at her own game. 6/10 chance of survival.

Jared Hopworth: Assuming he survived when the Distortion dumped him in the river - and I see no reason to assume he didn't - I actually think his chances aren't bad? He's proven self sufficient and very difficult to kill in the past, and while he's not friendly toward the heroes, he doesn't seem to bear them any particular animus, either. The main reason I'm not giving him better odds is that he doesn't seem to have many allies, and practically everyone who interacts with him sees him as a threat, a potentially useful tool, or both. 6/10 chance of survival.

Jude Perry: Might still come into conflict with Team Archives in a way that leads to her destruction, but Jude's mostly just an aimless, freewheeling source of destruction at this point in her life and I don't see any reason that the plot should demand her death. She should be ok as long as she doesn't do something stupid, although to be fair Jude is probably fully capable of doing something stupid. 7/10 chance of survival.

Jonathan Sims: Jon's fate as the protagonist, more than any other character's, is directly tied to the tone of the ultimate resolution of the story - if it's a pure tragedy or a pyrric victory, he might die horribly or might live but lose himself entirely. If the story ends on a hopeful note, he'll either be ok or will have the opportunity to make a productive and dignified self-sacrifice. 7/10 chance of survival, but there's no guarentee he'll be happy about it.

Georgie Barker: Ironically, removing her ability to feel fear seems to have given her room to double up on both common sense and self-preservation instinct. Also arguably one of the characters with the most to live for: a loving girlfriend, a cat, a career in a field that's about as close to apocalypse-proof as you're going to find, the opportunity to rub her ex's incompetence as a sentient being in his face... Georgie could still get herself into trouble, but she's in a pretty strong position. 8/10 chance of survival.

Martin Blackwood: Martin's rounded the curve on his character arc, by which I mean, he seems to have gained enough perspective that his voice actor no longer actively resents his existence. Having survived Peter's machinations and learned to actually communicate with his loved ones occasionally and not volunteer as tribute every five minutes, he's in a solid place going into S5. 8/10 chance of survival.

Melanie King: Melanie has already earned her happy ending and severed her active connections to both Powers that had a claim to her; she may not be totally safe, but it would be hard to kill her off now without making it feel pointless and vaguely spiteful in a way that doesn't serve the story. 9/10 chance of survival.

Oliver Banks: Generally doesn't pick fights. Is probably already dead in pretty much any way that matters, metaphysically speaking. He'd have to work pretty hard to get himself killed off for real at this point. 9/10 chance of survival.

The Admiral: Look, if anyone is getting out of this thing alive, the Admiral will. He's a good boy and he will be fine. We know that this, at least, is something that Jonny holds sacred in his writing: he will not kill the cat for shock value. 100/10 chance of survival.

Supernatural 14.20 (Season Finale)

After watching this episode, and if I’m being honest for the last couple of episodes, I can fully understand why j2 decided to end this show and while it’s still painful and I’m still not ready to let Sam and Dean go, sometimes letting go of the things we love is for the best and I think this is one of those cases. The love and thought and quality is not there anymore from the EPs/writers, so I’m thankful j2 decided to end Supernatural. I’m sure it wasn’t an easy decision because I have no doubt in my my mind that they love this show but it was the right thing to do. It’s time to say goodbye to this show, I’m just sorry we have to say goodbye to it with Dabb at the helm. 

I don’t know where to begin and I have a lot to say so this isn’t going to be very linear, in fact, it’s going to be the opposite and I apologize in advance for that but hopefully, I will be able to express what I feel and my points in a way that is understandable. 

I’m going to start this opinion post off talking about Chuck being turned into a villain and what I feel is a very unpopular opinion cause I didn’t like that, I know for a lot of y’all Chuck has always been the villain of this story that’s fine and dandy, I’ve never subscribed to that, and I can understand why some would be excited or find it interesting that God is the last big bad, go big or go home and all that, but I take issue with it cause to me this character has never been a villain and making him one is changing who he is, now I’ve never hidden that I like this character just as I’ve never hidden the fact that my views of this character are slightly influenced by my own personal beliefs nonetheless I am going to try my best to explain why I’d never seen him as a villain without getting into those beliefs. 

There are two ways I see this character: as a character and as a representation of Kripke/the showrunner. In neither of these views have I ever seen Chuck as anything other than flawed but loving his creation. 

Looking at him as a character only, I completely understand the argument some might make that Chuck has played Sam and Dean like puppets, but I’ve never seen it that way, to me he’s never been this master puppeteer who has controlled every aspect of Sam and Dean. I’ve always viewed him as a flawed but complex character that regardless of whether or not he put things in the boys path or how many those things were, which is not an argument I’m going to get into in this post, he’s rooted for them, he wants them to make the right choices and win - cause he’s always given them free will, even in this episode when they don’t play along and do what he wants he still didn’t take away their free will even though he easily could have, and in Swan Song the whole point of it the beautiful aspect about it is that the boys chose each other, that Sam and Dean’s life was theirs, that they playing or not playing along with heaven and hell’s plan was up to them and they chose not to play along-, and in a way he loves them like to put it in the most basic of terms before this episode where he’s turned into a villain I would have said Sam and Dean were his favorite creation. 

So, I’m not just not ok with the implication that this whole time Chuck has been controlling everything, that everything that has happened has been because Chuck wanted it that way, or that Sam and Dean never actually had free will, I’m just not ok with any of those things. I don’t like it.

If I look at him as the representation of Kripke and stop looking at him as a character, I can understand even more why he is the way he is and be more...forgiving I guess; he was an accurate representation cause Kripke did write Sam and Dean to be in those situations but at the same time he loved his creation. 

I feel like I made no sense so to put in hopefully more understandable terms: 

As a character: I have put you in or let you to some of these situations but I have given you the free will to choose how you handle them and I’m rooting for you to make the right ones and win.

As the representation of a writer talking to their creation: I have put you in these situations but I did it because I love you and I needed you to grow and take a life of your own. 

Not sure that’s any more understandable, my thoughts on this character are very difficult to explain but the gist of it is, I’ve never seen Chuck as the bad guy. 

[And, as to the argument of why hasn’t he stepped up more to help the boys, if he did there’d be no show. He’s an all knowing all powerful character if he appeared to help every time the boys had a problem there would be no show cause he could solve the problem with a snap of his fingers so I can understand and forgive the writers for not...using him?]

Anyways, to me, his personality in this episode doesn’t make any sense and Dabb changed him to make him into a villain [Note: I do not believe for even one second that he was always intended to be a villain, Chuck was introduced by Kripke back in s4, Kripke had no plans for this show to go past s5 and nobody expected it to reach s14 so saying him being a villain was always the plan makes no goddamm sense to me so save your breath]. I will say however it’s fitting that Dabb would turn Chuck, a representation of the show creator/showrunner, from flawed but loving, into a villain who throws a temper tantrum and undoes all of Sam and Dean’s hard work, I didn’t know Dabb was so self-aware!  

I don’t know, maybe if this character had never been introduced, or if he had been written differently or if I didn’t see him as a representation of the show creator/showrunner, maybe then I could get behind the idea of him being a villain but as it is I got issues with it. 

From a story POV I’m also not the biggest fan of God being the last big bad, I actually don’t find it that creative. I think it would have been a lot more interesting and creative if they had actually killed him and they either had to deal with the repercussions of that or even more fun if Sam had been the one to kill him and turned into God. Which I actually thought was going to happen for like 3mins after Sam shot Chuck (I watched this epi live and there was a commercial break in between I can be given some leeway for this), well to be honest, I thought he was either going to become God or King of Hell or return of his powers, either way, any one of those three would have been 100% more fun than what we actually got, but I guess I should have known better than to expect Dabb to ever give Sam a storyline, it was probably torture for him to write Sam doing something as badass as shooting God in the first place. 

Now, to be fair, we might still get Sam with powers or King of Hell!Sam, the shows not over yet but I’m not going to hold my breath for it. And maybe something cool will be done and I’ll warm up to the idea of Chuck being the villain but as of right now that’s not the case and I don’t see my view changing anytime soon. 

That being said, it was great to see Rob Benedict again! He’s looking good! 

Moving on from all that, this episode could have been so much more. It should have been so much more, this is the last season finale ffs! But this didn’t even feel like a season finale, the only time it did was at the very end during the last, I’d say, 5mins. the rest felt more fitting for a pre-season finale; take the last couple of minutes away and this would have been more fitting as 14.19. Or even as a standalone episode it would have been better, cause there’s a concept used at the beginning of this episode, that imo would have been good for a standalone, and it’s that Jack made it so people can’t lie, I think that could’ve made for a fun standalone and it’s a pity that instead it was thrown in here cause it didn’t contribute to the plot if anything it actually played a large part in making this feel like less of a season finale. 

I’m not gonna lie to you guys the ending with all the monsters and the zombies appearing did make my jaw-drop and for a minute I felt something akin to excitement for s15, but as the scene continued that excitement started dying down and something about it started bugging me. It wasn’t until the episode finished and I started thinking about it and what that ending could possibly mean that I realized why that was and it’s because that little spark of excitement I felt when the woman in white appeared was because of nostalgia. 

It’s because I saw her and the creepy af clown and bloody Mary and I didn’t imagine current Sam and Dean fighting them, my mind saw them and immediately went to s1 and s2, that little spark was because I was reminded of the show I love so much, the show that is now coming to an official end and never coming back, and again I won’t lie, for that minute my mind considered the possibility that s15 would be a throwback an homage to the beginning but as the scene continued on I realized that while s15 does have that potential to be something beautiful that pays tribute to the early seasons there’s a way bigger opportunity for it to be a destruction of the legacy j2 have built. And now that the opportunity is there, there’s a big chance that s15 will be a revolving door of secondary characters instead of being about Sam and Dean. 

I’m worried that instead of Dabb doing something beautiful that pays tribute to the early seasons it’s just going to be a lazy retelling full of retconning. And it frustrates me that he undid everything Sam and Dean have done, that instead of original new stories we’re bound to get a retelling of the ones that we know and love and are already perfect. 

Also, I fucking hate that feathers is gonna be around for the last season especially if the last season is meant to be an homage to s1-s2 cause that useless prick wasn’t introduced till s4...maybe they can start with s4, work their way backward and kill him off. 

I won’t deny that there were good moments cause there were! When Dean was about to shoot Jack that was legitimately tense, Sam shooting Chuck was badass, I loved Sam standing up to Dean and telling him that he couldn’t lose him and Jack, I liked the conversation between Sam and Chuck in the Bunker, I loved Dean making weapons for him and Sam at the end, so there were legitimate good moments scattered throughout but for me in the overall scheme of things those moments, as much as I enjoyed/loved them, are not enough for me to consider this a good episode and sure as hell, not enough for me to consider this a good season finale. Especially considering this is the last season finale and even more, if I compare it some past season finales like my beloved AHBL. 

If you liked this episode, that’s wonderful I’m happy for you, but...I don’t like the way it left me feeling. It left me feeling hollow, and frustrated, and angry and conflicted and worried about s15. 

I wish j2 the best of luck in making s15 a good one, they have an uphill battle ahead of them. 

As for me, I’m happy this season is finally fucking over and I’m looking forward to the break before the last season begins.

What Watch Does Jerry Seinfeld Wear?

Comedian and actor Jerry Seinfeld likes to spend his considerable fortune on luxury cars and watches. 

This combo can be seen in every episode of his series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. Where he pairs a fellow comedian with a car that suits their personality. I don't think he pairs his watches to the guest comedian, but a little part of me hopes that he does. 

Before getting into some of his more recent watches, let's backtrack a little to the glory days of Seinfeld. Jerry Seinfeld was, and remains, an avid Breitling fan-boy. His most popular watch during his sitcom days was a Breitling Chronomat with a bullet bracelet as seen below:

I would argue that Jerry's Breitling Cronomat has stood the test of time and would still look fantastic if he wore it today. I can't say the same for his 90's mullet-esque hairstyle... 

Anyway, his love of Breitlings continued and can be best seen through his web-series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee (CCGC), which is available on Netflix. It first aired on 2012 and has been building momentum ever since. 

I watch CCGC primarily because I enjoy learning how different comedians think. I'm also a fan of Jerry's comedy and enjoy his casual interviewing style. These keep me coming back for each new episode. But what keeps me engaged within each episode are the watches worn by Jerry (and his guests) and the cars.

Jerry describes each car at the start of the episode, but not his watches. So, it's always fun to do some watch spotting throughout each episode and I've compiled some of these for you below. 

Jerry's Breitling Aerospace

Jerry sports a Breitling Aerospace in numerous episodes, including those with Ellen DeGeneres and Kevin Hart. Jerry's wearing a jacket so it's difficult to spot - especially when distracted by Ellen's Paul Newman Daytona!

Jerry's super distinctive Breiting Aerospace is an analogue-digital watch known as a 'super quartz' because of its high accuracy. 

The pilot watch has many handy features such as a night vision goggle compatible backlight, 1/100s chronograph, countdown timer and secondary timezone. These are all operated via the crown by pushing, pulling, turning & turning fast.

In a way, the Aerospace take some practice and effort to master. Much like driving the manual 1977 Toyota Land Cruiser he chose for the episode with Ellen. 

Jerry introduces the Land Cruiser, "It's basic, it's classic, it's durable, it's user friendly."

The Aerospace also ticks most of those boxes, so I'd say he's done a good job of matching it to the Land Cruiser.

Jerry also wears his Breitling Aerospace in other episodes, including S5 E1 with Kevin Hart . 

I enjoy the ridiculousness of the goggles as Kevin and Jerry cruise around in the 1959 Porsche RSK Spyder.

Jerry's Breitling Navitimers

Jerry's love affair with Breitling continues as he chooses the Navitimer for several episodes, including the one below with Will Ferrell.

Jerry's Navitimer in this episode features white dials at 12, 6 and 9. This departs from the more common 3, 6 & 9 format mostly associated with new Breitling Navitimers. 

Breitling still release a Navitimer with the 12, 6 & 9 dial layout that some prefer because it can appear more balanced. This is the Navitimer Chronograph 41. As the name suggests, it's also a little smaller than most Navitimers at 41mm, which some find more wearable than the larger 43 or 45 Navitimer models.

Breitling Navitimer Cosmonaute

The next Navitimer on Jerry's wrist is another Navitimer. This time it's a limited edition black steel Navitimer Cosmonaute. 

The idea behind the Cosmonaute is that allows calculations to be made by pilots (or astronauts such as Lt. Cmdr. Scott Carpenter) directly on their wrist.

How do you use the slide ruler on the Navitimer?

If you're not accustomed to how a slide ruler on the Navitimer works, they can look terribly complicated and even intimidating. 

It's actually quite easy to use once you know how. Check out this video for a 90 second explanation:

Breitling Navitimer Chronograph 41 

The Chronograph 41 is a very wearable size for Breitling, while still making a statement with loads of functionality.

The Breitling Navitimer Chronograph 41 pays tribute to the original Navitimer 1 with it's vintage looks prominent circular slide rule on the perimiter. 

It mostly comes in stainless steel with several face color variations. But there is also a rose gold model that is considerably more expensive. 

The slide rule allows on-the-fly airbone calculations to be made such as fuel consumption, climbing times & converts miles into nautical miles or kilometers.

The 41mm watch size has proven popular with those like Jerry that are after a classic looking watch that is unlikely to ever make a calculation like fuel consumption. This wearable size means it avoids the criticims levelled at some other Brietlings for being too big. 

The movement is Breitling Calibre 13, based on the super reliable Valjoux/ETA 775. This external movement is different to other Navitimers, which has also required the sub dial layout to change to the less familiar 12, 6, 9 layout. But, I like this sub dial layout as it makes the watch look more well-rounded than some other Navitimers. 

Jerry clearly loves his Navitimers and it's easy to see why. They make a statement but are still very functional and have a great history (and story).

Jerry's Heuer ‘Siffert’ Autavia

This vintage watch from Heuer really speaks to the car enthusiast in Jerry. Autavia's are very sought after by watch collectors as they are synonymous with F1 racing of the 60's and 70's. 

One of the most sought after from the 1960's is the 'Jo Siffert'. Jo was a Swiss motor racer who won two races as a privateer and died in competition in 1971 at the age of 35.

Kevin Hart - Rolex Sky Dweller (S5 E1)

Not to be outdone, Kevin Hart shows off his Rolex Sky Dweller.

The Rolex Sky Dweller is one of the most complicated mechanical watches in Rolex's impressive line-up. The pilot watch allows Kevin to view two time zones simultaneously. This would come in very handy with his busy acting schedule. 

The other significant feature is the annual calendar, which only requires setting every year (to account for February's leap year) as opposed to every month. 

The Rolex Sky Dweller comes in white gold & stainless steel versions. I'm not sure which version Kevin wears, but if there's an actor that can afford the white gold version, it is the incredibly successful Kevin Hart. 

Barack Obama's FitBit Surge

This is one of my favorite episodes of CICGC because of Barack's candid nature and surprisingly good sense of humor for a president.

You: ooohhh, the FBAWTFT fandom is so toxic and abusive! I'm such a good person, I never wanted to hurt anyone! Also You: as I'm bored, now I'm going back to the Glee fandom, being inconvenient, talking shit and saying that everyone is against me just because I'm 20 years old.

Alright, bitch, let’s lay some stuff down right here and now.

Why did I go back to the Glee fandom?

Honey, when you join a fandom at 13 and it has such a big impact on you, you don’t forget it or leave completely. What happened was Cory dying changed everything for me/my Glee experience - it became too painful to watch Glee again, so I moved away from it and took solace in HP. Just like when Glee was my main fandom, I didn’t just “forget” or leave Harry Potter - I was still very much a part of it, just on a lesser scale. There were episodes of Glee I missed in Season 5 and also some in Season 6 because of the country broadcasting difference, but I still tuned in to watch a) Klaine engagement, b) the Cory/Finn tribute episode, c) the 100 episode where everyone came back and d) the Klaine wedding. So I didn’t just “leave” and come back, I have been a Gleek for seven years. Just because it wasn’t my main fandom, doesn’t mean I ever left or forgot about it.

Just in case it’s too hard for you to understand: I was 13 when I became obsessed with it. I was 15 (and a half) when I slowly started to move away because it hurt too much to watch it due to what happened with Cory. I’m now 20 - this is the first time I’ve rewatched Glee since Cory died in 2013 (with the exception of the few episodes in S5-6 that I watched once). Excuse me for wanting to rewatch a show that defined my adolescence. 

Fantastic Beasts/Glee/”toxic and abusive fandom”/”I’m bored” etc.

Alright, Princess, here’s some things you NEED to learn:

Whether you like it or not, Fantastic Beasts is STILL my main fandom. End of discussion.

I didn’t rejoin the Glee fandom for “the drama” or because “boo I’m bored” - I rejoined it because this year is the fifth anniversary of Cory’s death. It’s just over a week away. You have no idea how much Cory’s death impacted this fandom, and how torn up everyone was over it. Even though none of us knew him IRL, it still felt like losing a family member because of the effect Glee had on our lives.

I started listening to the music from Glee again because I have literally nothing else to listen to.

I thought, by this point, that the fandom would have chilled the fuck out but it hasn’t. It’s been three whole years since Glee ended, and people are still as batshit as ever. 

Honestly, when someone writes bullshit on your post, you get pissed off. You really do. 

That person I said about - I wasn’t going “boo you’re bullying me because I’m 20″: I found it fucking hysterical and somewhat sad that the person saying my Glee OTP was abusive was someone who was nearly 50 and shipped Larry Styles (among Wincest and other things). No, age shouldn’t matter in fandom, but it’s fucking hilarious to me that someone more than twice my age decided to try to bring down someone else’s favs just because they disagreed with me. 

The Klainers are actually, for the most part, extremely lovely and open/accepting people. I’ve seen more hate towards Klainers/Blaine/Darren fans than hate coming from them. The Klainers I have interacted with in the last seven years have been lovely and supportive of both my Glee fics and me in general.

People who don’t ship Klaine are lovely too; my best friend in 2013 was not a Klainer but a Finn/Finchel fan. My sister used to prefer Puck. I had online friends who were big Santana/Kurt/Tina/Artie etc. fans. 

The stuff that happened in the FBAWTFT fandom isn’t just down to me: it’s the fandom as whole. I already admitted - MULTIPLE TIMES - how badly I behaved on several occasions, which is more than a lot of people on this hellsite have done. 

When have I ever said I’m a good person? Literally never. Look through my blog and you’ll see that pretty much any posts where I talk about myself are extremely self-loathing. LMAO, nice try though.

Say what you want, anon, but if you go through the entirety of my blog you’ll see that when I was a huge Gleek (2011-2013 approx), I had three pieces of anon hate in my inbox. Since joining the FBAWTFT fandom, I’ve had it nearly constantly. 

You want to talk about toxic, anon? Maybe look in the fucking mirror. You’re the one sending anon hate, not me. If you don’t like me, my blog or my opinions, then exit out the page and LEAVE. No one is forcing you to stay.

Collect a gray tanooki leaf in the special world and a red or green bandana will apper around your neck perform a ground pouned to turn to a statue.

Best 3D In The Game

When you enter level 5-2 you will see 2 blocks jump on top of ether one now turn your 3D all the way up then press up on the d-pad then on top of the block, jump and don’t just tap it hold that thing down believe me it looks AMAZING (works even better if you have a tanooki suit).

Unlimited Lives: World 1-2

Find the three Koopa Troopas and three coin blocks immediately after the checkpoint flag in World 1-2. Step on the first long coin block on the ground, then walk down onto the Koopa Troopa below when it moves directly below the coin block. If timed correctly, you can bounce off the Koopa Troopa repeatedly and get unlimited lives.

Fire Ball 1-ups

I’m going to tell you how to get a 1-up with a fire ball! First, go to any level what has a koopa troopa. Next (if you have the fire suit), whack a koopa troopa 5 times after it hides in it’s shell. Don’t worry, the koopa troopa won’t escape like on NSMBW. As I said, whack the koopa troopa 5 times when it hides in it’s shell. There you go, you have a fire ball related 1-up!

How To Get Past World 5 In Bowsers Castle

You need 20 or more lives then lose them till you get to 3 or 2 then a wing will pop up next to the super takoonior tanooki then hit the wing one and it will fly you to the goal flag. I did it once bowser was hard but I like cheating sometimes.

Life Turtle

When in level 1-2 I think you see three turtles don’t get the star in the room go to the turtle next to the rectangular shaped box and get his shell to repeatedly hit that block and then jump on the edge of the? Box to get rapid fire lives (limit is three crowns and does not count for your score on the game) now when you lose a life it doesn’t matter.

Alien Invasion!

In World 1, Level 3, look through the binoculars. Wait a while, then zoom in on a white, grayish object. It’s a UFO! It disapears after a while. Also, in World 4, Boo’s house, go to the flag pole. Wait a little bit, then a wierd ghostly alien will appear for a while. It looks like Shy Guy though. (I found these on Youtube)!

How To Get Photo #12

You must beat the last place in SW 8 and it will send you to the huge castle in world 8-7 and beat that but be carfull bowser is stronger than ever.

Secret Shortcut!

In W1-3 there will be to piranha plants – kill them. Then you will see a Green Shell Koopa Troopa – kick his shell off the mountain. Then go back to where the second piranha plant was and jump off the left side. There will be a warp pipe that will take you a further to the end of the level!

Dodge the Spikey Ball

Go to w1-2 and press the L or R button to go under the spikey ball. If you time it correctly, you’ll go right under it and won’t get hit. It’s all in the timing and pressing the right buttons.

Neverending Lives

Go to s1-1 and when you get the first star keep hitting the spiky things until you get the second star. Make sure that the first star didn’t stop before you get the second star and you will get more lives. Then when you get to the top get the star and hit them you should get three lives while you hit the people on the top then all you have to do is to get to the top of the flag pole and repeat it and watch your lives go up.

World 1-2 Shortcut

In World 1-2, its cool going up that wall and straight through the orange pipe! It’s a nice shortcut.

Secret Room

Go to world 2 level 3 then go to the end of the level past the flag poll and you can go in the castle.

Secret Coins

You need fire flower! At the end of the level 1-2 before the pipe there will be a thing with wood that is supposed to be lit but it is not so light it with fire and there will be coins on the floor.

Mini Hat Or Normal No Hat

Have you ever wanted to have a mini Mario or Luigi with a hat or normal size with no Hat? Well i’m going to tell you how. First you have to use the infinite life cheat in world 1-2 until you get triple crown lives. Then after you have triple crown lives for mini with a hat you just get hit (like how you would normally) and you would be mini with a hat. For large with no hat just have a power up like tanooki or fire power and get hit and you will have no hat.

Extra Stars

For extra stars in regular worlds go to even number worlds and find the mystery box and beat the monsters, then the star before time runs out. For extra stars in special worlds go to mystery box beat the monsters and get the star before time runs out.

Zelda Level

On W5-2 the camera will be fixed overhead why its a Zelda level! How do I know this? Well if you get the fire flower in between the 2 blocks on the first room (invisible) and just go right you will come to a room with 4 pots with wood in them, light all 4 on fire and you will hear the old Zelda song and the gate will open Saguaro Meomoto also said that it was a tribute to Zelda’s 25 Anniversary!

Lives Cheat

When you are at the first boomerang boss in the airship you jump on it the when its in its shell keep jumping on it and you get a certain amount of lives.

How To Jump To World 2

In level 1-2 after the check mark and you are in the next room. Jump onto the second? Block then jump up again onto a hidden platform and go right. Then keep going and then jump a gap. Keep going you will find an orange pipe. Go down the pipe and you will appear in World 2.

Level 7-3 Quick Way To The Finish

YOU NEED TO HAVE A TANOOKI LEAF! First go to level 7-3. Then go through the level a tiny bit and you will see a piranha plant on a flying platform. Defeat the piranha plant and jump on the flying platform. Then fly over to the tight ropes all the way over there and you will land on one. Continue through the level (it doesnt take long) and you are at the end in no time!

World 2 Shortcut

When you are in World 1-2, there are three “?” coin blocks after the flag pole. Jump on top of one of them, then jump further up and away from the screen. You will land on a narrow ledge. Run past this part of the level. When you reach a gap in the higher area, jump over it, and keep running to reach an orange pipe that will take you to World 2.

World 5 Shortcut

In World 4-2, near the end of the level, while jumping up the large shaft via the spotted bouncy platforms, use the last bouncy platform to angle your jump to left to reach a narrower shaft. Note: You may need to do some wall jumps. Go up and to the right. Run all the way to the right to reach an orange pipe that will take you to World 5.

To unlock Luigi, so you can play as him, you must clear Special World 1.

Successfully complete one of the following tasks to get one additional star on your saved game file. Note: Die fewer than five times in each level to make the stars more shiny.

1. Defeat Bowser in World 8’s last level.

2. Successfully complete all levels with Mario.

3. Successfully complete all levels with Luigi.

4. Collect the gold flag on all levels.

5. Collect all star coins.

Effects On The Flagpole

Hit the flagpole at the end of a level with the last digit of your time ending in one of the following numbers to get the corresponding effect:

Balloons: Have the last digit of your time be a “6” to have balloons appear.

Fireworks: Have the last digit of your time be a “3” to have fireworks appear.

Streamers: Have the last digit of your time be a “1” to have streamers appear.

Unlock Alternate Title Screen

While playing in any Special World, save and exit the game. An alternate video will play at the main menu. To disable this effect, save and exit the game while playing in one of the first eight worlds.

ANN-MARGRET

April 28, 1941

Ann-Margret Olsson was born in Stockholm, Sweden. The family moved back to Valsjöbyn, Jämtland a small town of she later described as one full of "lumberjacks and farmers high up near the Arctic Circle".

Ann-Margret and her mother joined her father in the United States in November 1946, and her father took her to Radio City Music Hall on the day they arrived. They settled in Wilmette, Illinois, outside of Chicago. She became a naturalized American citizen in 1949. 

She made her small screen debut on “Ted Mack and the Original Amateur Hour” on December 22, 1957. 

Her feature film acting debut came in 1961′s Pocketful of Miracles starring Bette Davis and Glenn Ford, directed by Frank Capra. “Here’s Lucy” parodied the film in a 1972 episode titled “Dirty Gertie” (HL S5;E10).  Ann-Margret followed up with the critically acclaimed film musicals State Fair and Bye Bye Birdie.  She was nominated for Oscars for Carnal Knowledge (1971) and Tommy (1975). 

Lucille Ball and Ann-Margret were together for the first time on “The Tonight Show” on November 26, 1968.  Peter Lawford sat in for Johnny Carson.  

Three months later, Ann-Margret and Lucy would both participate in “Jack Benny’s Birthday Special” (February 17, 1969).  The announcer’s opening credit for Ann-Margret is “as the Valentine Girl.”  Ann-Margaret had been a guest on “The Jack Benny Program” on April 2, 1961. In December 1968, Jack Benny guest starred on “The Ann-Margret Show.”

On December 6, 1969, Lucille Ball guest-starred on “Ann-Margret: From Hollywood with Love” on CBS.  Ball played herself and a character named Celebrity Lu, an autograph hound, opposite Autograph Annie (Ann-Margret). The scene culminates in a musical number. 

In return, Ann-Margret guest-starred as herself on “Here’s Lucy” on February 2, 1970. 

Ball satisfied her son’s adoration of Ann-Margret by having the script focus on Craig (Desi Arnaz Jr.) and his musical talent. 

In November 1970, Lucy and Ann-Margret joined John Wayne for a patriotic special titled “Swing Out, Sweet Land” in which Ann-Margret played an entertainer at Valley Forge, and Lucy provided the voice of The Statue of Liberty. They did not share any scenes. 

Lucille and Ann-Margret both played a part in a retrospect of Bob Hope’s first 30 years on TV, along with Milton Berle, Danny Thomas, George Burns, Glen Campbell, Sammy Davis Jr., Douglas Fairbanks Jr., Eydie Gorme, Steve Lawrence, Marie Osmond, Martha Raye, Brooke Shields, and many others. 

In 1985, Lucille Ball, Lucie Arnaz, and Ann-Margret (plus 97 others) were part of “Night of 100 Stars 2″.  Ann-Margret modeled a golden Emanuel gown. 

In 1988, Lucille Ball and Ann-Margret made their final appearance on the same program in “America’s Tribute To Bob Hope”. 

In 2010, Ann-Margret won her first Emmy Award for her guest appearance on “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.”

Her latest project is titled the feature film comedy Queen Bees.
