asagiri generally doesnt write characters, especially important ones, as subscribing to one specific side of the moral compass. sure, there are characters that are more morally good or bad or gray than others, but not every one of their actions is as such. characters arent straight heroes or villains in their actions, and sometimes not even narratively; fitzgerald did everything for his wife to finally be happy and see her daughter again, dazai still trained akutagawa the way he did despite knowing it was abusive because his circumstances couldnt allow him to change before oda died, et cetera

so, lets interpret it another way. fyodors eyes being dark after resurrection may not be a reflection of his sinister personality, but rather the way he views and experiences his own countless deaths. he is purified in death and tainted when hes brought back; at peace in his last moments and destroyed when hes alive again. so what conclusion did this realization bring me to? fyodor is a suicidal maniac and hates his ability hear me out Please

TODAY WAS THE WORST DAY OF MY FUCKING LIFE!!!!! OHHH MY GOD. IM SO MAD. ok. im exaggerating but. ill get to that. so lets just go through the first couple things that happened. heres the squad. say hi intrepid heroes

so i talked to zevlor and agreed to find the goblin leader. on my way to the goblin camp i meet these people who talk about the absolute and call me a true soul after their brother dies lol.

then they say theyre looking for a survivor from the ship crash, i say i am one and..

they... wanna kill me...??? i really didnt want to but i was already in the fight so im like. whatever. sure man. so i cooked the shit out of them, duh. im curious about what their deal was though... also i had the option to ask if they knew about halsin the healer and i didnt ask which sucks cus i should have done that first also im... starting to catch on to what astarion is. if im assuming correctly. cus earlier he talked about how much he looooves rare ass meat thats "dripping" with blood and that was weird as a random comment but...

anyways. then i meet this dog by his dead owner. befriend him. all good.

but then. i use speak to animals (with wyll) and talk to the dog. and wanting to help i yell at the corpse. because im like. I DUNNO MAN. maybe the dog will realize hes dead. but then HE GETS MAD AT ME AND TURN COMBAT MODE COMES ON. and i tried to go back and reload. i didnt want to but i also did not want to kill him. but the save was so far back. then i tried to run away with astarion but i guess running away works per character. so i thought oh maybe if i return the fight will be over.... and it wasnt....

i have never regretted something more. ohhhh i am going to show you so much love and compassion when i run this game a second time. this is the worst thing to happen to me. ever. fuck everything. i still love you scratch.

...anyways. got to the goblin camp. used a wisdom roll to convince the goblins we're good thanks to the brain tadpole. astarion commented on how we could convince anyone to do anything with the tadpoles and he was like mweheheeheh.

but yeah i went into the crypt, looted some stuff and killed a couple people. nothing bad happened in the first room and i did not have to reload.

Ancient Dreams In A Modern Land by MARINA: Album Review

good evening, the wax pen and salad combo rn keeping me humble.i have only heard one (1) song from this album, so this is a raw dog. lets get into it, one tab for tumblr and the other for lyrics

starting with ancient dreams in a modern land, obviously the statement piece of the first half of the album since it is the album name. such a savvy intro, you know hot people are attracted to this kind of instrumental. she knows what she was doing naming the album after this song. it just screams confidence, independence and self love all laced with the sort of inquisitive energy to make you want to feel how she does (i do the same thing, thats why i know this song already). i love the dreamy contrast of the bridge

venus fly trap WOW. this is fucking fantastic??? her flow is insane, like the way she will accelerate during bold, !!!! lines, u kno? i fucking love this im going to throw up everywhere. this is so black and white from electra heart, its so beautiful to see her growth while maintaining her unique sound. i adore the sound and lyrics for this one a lot

oh man here we go UMMMMMMM I DONT WANT TO LIVE IN A MANS WORLD ANYMORE GIRLLLLL SPEAK YOUR DREWTH! i appreciate the strict contrast between the chorus and the other lines, and the way the bridge has the softness of the chorus is super important. i love her voice so fucking much

purge the poison WOWWWW little society song! so contemporary of u marina! i like her flow because shes telling a story and then the chorus is the reminder of the underlying message. i really like this, its not in your face about the messages, they are all really perfectly presented

i like the sequence of notes she hits in the intro to highly emotional people, it really goes with the lyrics and how you feel reading them, but it also provides this really cool form of pathos. something about that pitch creates a feeling of sincerity. its like "its okay to be vulnerable, you need to confide in others, you're loved" like its a really beautiful message, and i really appreciate her dedication to representing mens mental health in her songs like this.

new america is a very very insane switch up from the song before? UHHHH HER SEGWAY INTO THE NEXT LINES... her fucking voice is so god damn insane. this albums theme is definitely social injustice within america. that makes sense too w the album name. love the cohesion, good work marina.

pandora's box i have high hopes for just based on the name and the first lines. i read them before the song changes to try to guess her approach. and see this is not what i'd expect. ok no this.... is painful? wowww the high note for "stacked against the odds" like that screams representation of a crying voice crack and i fucking love it. jesus christ this one is personal i have literally endured this and her voice captures the rollercoaster of emotions you go through when you're this hurt. jesus fucking christ this one is good.

bones and all felt trans but written by someone who isn't. it hit on a weird level i wasn't expected but couldn't go the whole way because the people who made it didn't quite understand what they had. that's... weird, i guess. i'm sure someone is ready to be like "oh wow u thought da cannibal twink movie was trans? unpack yourself, lol" but idk, to me it was obvious, a secret you can't share, a transformation no one understands. yes, obviously that's "being gay," etc, and i'm sure thats what guadagnino thought, but there's that extra step into a complete unknown that makes it more and the movie doesn't get it so it's not going to fully work.

other, more prosaic issues:

it's also not a great movie, it thinks it's edgy and coasts off of that, so it makes the climax moving but on the cusp of unearned. somehow this director gets the best songs but the worst scores out of people. trent reznor (exactly like thom yorke before him) writes a moving theme that stands up with his best work, but the rest of the score is aimless and kind of inappropriate for the movie. it looks good but not great. it feels like it thinks its "getting away with something" so there's a pridefulness that feels cis, and it drives me crazy that "da cannibal twink movie" is making me think in "discourse" terms.

Satoru checked himself in the mirror, brushing at his white fringe before shooting his reflection a smile. Muffled laughter peels off behind him, but Satoru ignores his bastard of a best friend to keep on studying himself. So what if he wants to show off to your other boyfriends to let them know that he is the best of them? Frankly, Satoru thinks that that’s a perfectly normal reaction, considering that he was the last one to date you.

“Ya think the other men just gon’ let a twink outdo them?” Suguru asks, legs propped up on Satoru’s headboard, looking at him with bored eyes as he chews on his packet of Hello Panda. How he can do that while laying upside down is beyond Satoru.

He rolls his eyes at Suguru. “You think any pretty boys are twinks, Sugu.” He flashes him a grin. “Which means you think that I am a pretty boy.”

Suguru scrunches his nose before chucking a biscuit at him. Satoru manages to catch it with his mouth, anyway. “Pretty annoying, is what you are.”

His jaw drops at the sight of two achingly familiar men. Similarly, the others let out a drawn out groan upon seeing him which, rude, but also understandable.

“Y’ve got to be kiddin’ me,” Toji murmurs, crossing beefy arms and glaring sharp emerald eyes at Satoru. You poke at Toji’s bicep in response, quietly tutting, but Toji just huffs like a brat.

“Sh’ve known at this point,” Sukuna, who gained more tattoos within the one-year duration that Satoru has not seen him, grouches. He juts out a thumb, pointing at Toji. “At least you’re not like him, I guess.” He shoots a cheeky grin your way, and you giggle, far more amused with the situation. 

Satoru almost lovingly sighs and melts at the sound of it.

Toji rolls his eyes at the remark as he wraps an arm around your shoulder, pulling you flushed to his side. This time, Satoru laughs out loud, giddy and incredulous at the same time. 

“Holy shit,” he says, wiping away the phantom tear of laughter from his eyes. “Who knew, huh? Baby’s got a type and we can’t really blame her.” He winks at you as he says this, before laughing loudly again when you flipped him off.

“Fuck you,” you say, pouting. 

“Please do,” he replies, revelling at the way you quickly flushed, before ducking away to hide behind Toji’s bigger frame.

iii. The Carnival Date

A new round of excited squealing erupts from your throat as Sukuna wins you another plushie. The worker grumbles but effectively shuts up at seeing three mutual glares directed at him, your boyfriends’ menacing looks sewing his lips shut as he silently hands you the jumbo sized unicorn plush. 

You squeeze the plush to your chest, peering up at your boyfriends through your lashes with a wide smile. They smile back, their hands full of plush toys that they all won for you from the other tents, happy to spoil you.

“Thank you so, so much!” You say, giving them another cheerful smile.

Sukuna ruffles your hair as Toji passes you your cup of strawberry soda. You hum in delight, sipping softly, and you are so sure that Satoru just cooed but when you turn to him, his expression is schooled back into his usual small smile so you just narrow your eyes at him in suspicion.

“Anythin’ else you want to play, love?” Sukuna asks, pulling you to his chest and resting his chin on the crown of your head. 

You hum, biting your straw as you glance around the packed carnival to look for what else to do. You all had ridden the exciting rides a while back, although, surprisingly, Sukuna refused some of them.

(“I’m too good for those,” he said and you pretended that you cannot see the way he is tightly gripping your jacket in fear. 

“Okay, baby,” you told him, pulling him down to press a kiss on his cheek. “See you in a few minutes.”

He nodded, eyes crinkling as he smiled. “Have fun f’r me, yeah?”

“Yeah,” you whispered, feeling weak to the knees at the pure adoration in his eyes.)

But the lineups are all long now, and you don’t have any more energy to wait. You pout.

Toji chuckles at seeing it. 

“C’mon baby, let’s look around. Who knows, maybe there are more tents we can play in.” He steps forward to tuck a lock of your hair behind your ear before cupping your cheek delicately. “Bet I can win more against these assholes.”

“Excuse me?” Satoru gasps beside you.

“You’re the asshole,” Sukuna adds, reaching out to flick Toji’s forehead. Toji smacks Sukuna’s shoulder in retaliation.

iv. Gentle Sunsets 

— “I love you,” Toji says as he softly sits you on the marble countertops and steps in between your legs. You smile just as tenderly, pulling him close. He comes easily, melting into your embrace, and burrowing his face on the crook of your neck. 

— “I love you,” Sukuna whispers as he pulls you on his lap, sliding his warm palms underneath your shirt and rubbing from the base of your neck to the small of your back lightly. You hum, nuzzling at his jaw, relaxed and putty. 

— “I love you,” Satoru utters as he leads you to the bed where he tucks you two under the duvet cover, his legs tangling with yours. He lays your head on his arm, breath hitching when you snuggle closer. 

— “I love you,” you sing, standing up on your tippy toes to press kisses from his cheeks to his nose, chuckling when it makes his nose scrunch. Your smile grows when he kisses you just as much.
