Hi! I really look up to your art a lot and I had a question for you! How do you do studies when you find art hard to do? (Ex. Low motivation, lack of ideas, or simply art feeling like a chore, even when you want to do it.) You have such a good handle on body structure and your posing shows so much personality though it, but I'm sure there are times when art feels idle or empty. Do you have a process for working through that? To keep studying?

Honestly I kind of do studies the most when I AM feeling uninspired or lost, they make me feel like I've made something good and ‘worthwhile’ even if I couldn't think of something else to draw or didn't feel like working harder on drawings from my head.

Maybe that's also a part of it- to me studies are easier than drawing from imagination and I find them kind of chill and rewarding. I imagine when I started out studies were probably a lot more frustrating!

I also have spoken with a friend about this and I'm maybe quite lucky in that visual information sticks in my head quite well, almost every time I do studies I find it immediately helpful. Like the other day I drew a behind the head angle, and then found it useful right after, drawing Astarion.

It doesn't last forever though, my memory fades and I have to refresh it again with studies until it eventually becomes more concrete.

I also don't really force it, I do art for my job during work hours and I usually (lately) feel like drawing after work or on weekends, but if I don't feel like it I try and do some other hobby or watch stuff. Sorry though, I know this isn't exactly answering the question!

I guess sometimes I want to want to draw, so I start and see how I feel after ten minutes, if I want to keep going or not, that's maybe the best advice for doing anything when you're feeling meh. It also helps to identify What you want to work on, i have a list in my head of stuff I feel weakest at and I find having it broken down like that helps it feel less like a mountain. Like … things I've picked out lately are :what legs look like sitting in chairs, and heads tilting at different angles. To be honest another thing I've been trying to work on is getting more personality into my poses, it's funny that you compliment just that when I feel it's something I want to work on! I suppose it's a never ending journey haha. I've been reading 'drawn to life' and trying to take the ideas of not just copying reality, but getting more of the essence of it than the technicals!

Saying that sometimes the low stakes 'draw photos that come up on ur dashboard' is fun, in contrast to a focused approach! Or my fav is pausing on movies and drawing that! It takes the worry out, like cool no scrolling for an hour looking for something that will be Perfect Learning Material, just draw something.

OK this one wont be super long bc ill be accompanying it with doodles but, u know the drill, under read more so i dont stretch people’s dashboards out

im gonna start with rinne i think he is VERY enthusiastic. he’s so happy to be there man. like he’s usually loud and kind of obnoxious regardless but this brings it out even more, most fans eat it up bc thats just his persona now, right. if any older fans show up he gets a bit softer/quieter to accommodate for them because he trusts them. 

if he notices fans being too shy/awkward he’ll try his best to hype them up and make them feel welcome i.e everybody be nice to this fan or i’ll blow this whole place up! but at the same time it’s like the second he sniffs out that they’re nervous he becomes a bit more pushy (WELL-MEANING OFC) AND IT CAN GET TO BE ALMOST SCARY… HE WILL EITHER GET SOFT AND UNDERSTANDING OR HE WILL EXPLODE ON U AND TRY TO MAKE U EXCITED WITH HIM THERES NO IN-BETWEEN… he will point out that ur nervous and ask u why that is. maybe poke a little bit of fun. obviously not enough to make you cry or whatever but enough for you to shake a little bit, so that after you leave you can look back at the pictures and memories like damn im actually glad rinne amagi helped me out of my shell

hes like an apex predator he can sense fear but instead of k wording you he forces you to do peace signs with him in photos

niki like always is super friendly and welcoming. he tries his best to make fans have fun! he isn’t nearly as pushy as rinne and doesn’t really pry. he makes small talk and if he thinks you smell nice he Will point it out! he will compliment and laugh a lot and overall be very silly. 80% of any event he’s playing footsie with rinne under the table and occasionally during fan meets they’ll start play bickering both for The Bit and also because they cant go too long without doing it it sustains them. 

one concerning thing about niki is that regardless of the circumstances he will always ALWAYS accept food, even though he is not supposed to. he sneaks off to eat snacks to prevent hunger pangs and if any fan catches him while offering food he will most assuredly be like oh hell ya, which is why the other guys are constantly on the look-out for him. while almost all fans do it in good faith i can imagine he’s gotten sick from at least one instance of this happening but he never learns because he cannot for the life of him turn down stuff he can eat. kohaku and rinne literally always have an eye on him to make sure his breaks stay short and to haul his ass back to the table 

himeru is perfect. like as a meet and greet idol he is exemplary. it’s almost scary. he gives the perfect amount of small talk, compliments you just enough, smiles the whole time. holds your hand for enough time, brushes his hair behind his ear acting all handsome, laughs at anything and everything that might be a joke….it’s like he has a mental checklist for every encounter. he studies this shit every night before an event so he has it down to a T. he makes meeting the others feel like youre talking to the teletubbies 

like rinne he senses fear and while he doesnt push like rinne does it’s almost like. he’s smug about it. he knows he’s that good! HE’S SO RADIANT YOU CAN’T LOOK AT HIM FOR TOO LONG…

ok lastly kohaku! kohaku i feel like would definitely try his best to copy himeru. he thinks the other two are not good examples, so partly himeru’s trying to show off because he knows kohaku is watching. being good friends with aira also has him practicing this a lot with him, too. but on his own kohakuchan is good at talking to people, slightly less good at maintaining eye contact or handshakes but he’s working on it! you can tell he’s new to it but he’s trying his best so it makes it all the more endearing. 

the other three point it out a lot when they think he or the fans can’t hear. not in a malicious way theyre just happy to see kohaku’s having fun. his encounters definitely feel a little more rushed but not because he necessarily wants it to be over you can tell hes just a bit more nervous to be 1 on 1. sometimes the other guys do something stupid in the sidelines so he can get angry and have him let loose. anyways Be nice to him

okay this probably wont make sense to people who arent poc but this actually means so much to me. i have a really big history on having internalized racism and feeling like im "lesser than" white people. to be honest, it still effects me to this day in small ways, but thats another topic for another day- there are so many layers that influence how i see my race that connects with my sexuality and gender identity that you cant really explain to others, they just have to experience it themself.

(im gonna put the rest under the cut because this is probably gonna be long and i dont wanna clog your dashboard/screen)

another thing is that ive felt like i was a "lesser" asian as well. im not chinese, japanese, or korean so my entire identity of being asian is constantly being questioned and pushed aside because im not one of the pretty, well known asians. it made me feel inferior for so long and took me years to get over, and honestly im not sure if im over it yet, but its definitely died down more.

this ask means so much to me because it makes me feel like just by existing as a south east asian, (a group of people that are often ignored and doubted as to whether or not theyre the race they are) and being proud of it, im helping my people not be ashamed of it too. because the sad reality is that almost every single one of my fellow south east asian friends have wished they were white when they were younger.

i wouldve done anything to get younger me to be proud of his color, rather than trying to whiten it whenever he drew himself, rather than wishing he were american, and rather than despising his own country and people for 12 years. he was blinded by inferiority to the point were it became a mindset that we were lesser. that white people are cooler and more advanced, that my countrys history was boring, and that my culture could never compare.

when i was 13 i finally got out of that mindset, but little bits and pieces linger around that i try my best to ignore. now iam an adult man that is proud of my countrys culture, music, fool and people. it makes me happy that i made someone go "oh i found someone else like me!" because yes! we are like each other! and im so glad you feel proud of that, since i am too!!! surprisingly, we arent that uncommon, i have a whole friend group of south east asians that are also trans, you just have to look closely to find us hehe

theres a whole other topic about how me being poc (that isnt all that common or well known) affects my experience being queer but honestly thats a suuuuper long topic i could talk about for hours, so i wont get in to that here. anon, if youre still reading this because i know this is long as hell, please feel free to dm me so we can talk!! i wanna get to know a fellow trans south east asian, and who knows, we might even be from the same country!

to be fair to your followers, i follow hundreds of people and every 10 minutes i hit the like 99+ thingy on the dashboard button. if you post and i don't happen to see it it's not that i hate your work or am avoiding it specifically, it's that i have other posts that i saw giving me notifications and i feel instinctively obligated to click it.

(also now im kinda jealous that you can even conceptualize reaching 600 notes. max note post i think we have on any of our blogs is like just over 200 notes, not even 250 yet (with art posts we've made regarding one of our fandoms barely hitting 30 if that-) so like you're still doing good imo, people enjoy ur content i promise !!)

oh absolutely im very sure thats the reason! thats where my tendency to reblog my own art over and over again comes from lol ive seen just today several mutuals just now seeing my latest work for the first time, it happens /shrug!

also yeah im super aware that as one of the bigger artists in mcytblr ive got the benefit of my stuff averaging a lot more notes. back when i was in fandoms like yugioh or danganronpa, most of my stuff only amassed like 90 maximum; i got super lucky with larger dsmp blogs mutualing me and reblogging my stuff back when the fandom was at its peak around early to mid 2021. (thats one of the reasons i try and reblog as many things as i can that i enjoy, so they can get that boost like i got. tumblr doesnt have much of an algorithm so i try and supplement that a bit. i guess? lol)

honestly its probably just the fact that so many people left the fandom for very very obvious reasons and im just seeing that play out in my works not getting Big Number like before. gotta try and remember that people are mainly just either refreshing their dashes before seeing it, or theyve just left the fandom! but well my memorys not the BEST so sometimes i forget that lol!
