they have very little screentime so i don’t have much to say about them. i have definetly seen a lot of girls like them, but that was usually when i was primary school age, not as a teenager. at times they can be really annoying, but their friendship can be pretty wholesome at times. reminds me of how attached i was to my friends at… well, not their age. there’s nothing really bad about them, but not much good either? really indifferent about them.

mike -

fresh tv did NOT know how to write a character with a mental disorder… besides the bad representation, i think mike is a pretty nice guy! i love silly-with-a-hint-of-mental-disorder characters like him. he’s one of the better characters from gen 2, and he’s… sweet? that’s how i’m going to word it. also. i‘m going to say it right here. i LOVE svetlana (or swjetłana, as they call her in the Polish dub). my favourite alter (i think that’s the term?) of his. totally not just because she’s slavic and i crave representation, she’s just a very fun character and a very skilled gymnast! i also like vito. he’s cool. very unfortunate what they did with mike in ass stars!

trent -

trent is a very interesting character. i could go on for ages, analysing his behaviours, figuring out his past traumas and what caused him to end up the way he is. there is so much to talk about with trent! that’s why i love trentcourse: it’s just a bunch of people talking about this guy!! he’s a sweetheart. his chill, coolheaded, and a really kind person. he’s not made much real enemies, and. ugh. i love his relationship with gwen. just,,,,, so pure. action kinda fucked him up a little bit, but in a way it gave him a bit of depth? my personal theory on why he kinda just. snapped was that since action started so early after island, he hadn’t gotten the chance to pack enough meds, and anyone who’s needed to take any sort of medication for that kind of thing will probably know that if you’re going to go off of medication/start taking medication, you need to do it gradually, and that’s for a good reason!!!!!! anyways i love trent. he and cody are the traumatised boyfriends.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE DAKOTA!!!!!! SHE’S SO FUCKING SILLY. genuinely. she is my favourite character of gen 2 alongside jo. she’s a bit how i used to imagine myself to be in the future! fashionable, famous, rich, successful, and in a healthy relationship!! (samkota is SO WHOLESOME) her turning into dakotazoid was actually really great. i kinda prefer her that way! she could still be confident with her body despite being a twelve foot tall mutant! i don’t fully understand people who draw her as ‘healed’ from that because like. i don’t think you can reverse something that drastic. and also she’s comfortable with it! she doesn’t seem too upset about it (iirc of course. been a while since i’ve rewatched roti). anyways dakota is amazing, i love her and her relationship with sam, and i think she and zoey should be best friends!!

ok i don’t know if you’d want to hear it but. i’m sorry. i hate her. like every moment she was on screen i’d get SUPER uncomfortable. her actions towards cody were horrible and i am not going to ignore them even though yeah she’s a fictional character!!!! i don’t know if her actions were meant to come off as jokes or not but either way it’s not funny at all. i like her design, her voice acting is AMAZING, her face is very expressive (and i love that in a cartoon!), paris in the springtime was one of the best songs of the season (but it will never beat her real name isn’t blaineley), but she’s just. not a good character. she had potential! i would’ve loved it if she was a villain, like, you set up alejandro to be the main villain but them BOOM! sierra is actually a manipulative mastermind who will blackmail anyone and get them eliminated!! or something like that. but yeah i don’t like sierra.

After that shitshow of a fourth season, i felt it necessary to redo this.

#36 -The Sparrows (Jayme, Alphonso, Fae etc.)

The show had no clue what to do with these characters. They sit around being evil for a little while only to promptly die within four episodes. Also one of them is a fucking cube?!? Whats up with that?

#35 - Sloane

How come she disappears in season 4 but not sparrow Ben? So much of this makes no sense.

#34 -Sparrow Ben

I hate this character with my whole being. He goes around calling people emo as if HE DOESNT WAKE UP EVERY MORNING WITH A SCOWL ON HIS STUPID FACE AND EMO HAIR ON HIS STUPID FOREHEAD. He's so rude and awful and i'm given no reason by the show to give a shit where he ends up.

#32 -Reggie's wife

The two of them annoyed me so much.

#31 -Viktor

Moochy emo sod. Elliott Page's acting got progressively worse throughout the series (and i like Elliott Page, but this wasnt his best work.)- season 1 Vanya was tolerable, beyond that i couldn't stand this character. All his jokes land flat and he has the charisma of a piece of cardboard.

#30 -Season 4 Five

For the sake of this ranking, i am treating seasons 1-3 Five and season 4 Five as seperate characters. Seems like the writers were doing the same. What the fuck, guys? How do you bulldoze a character this badly?

Season 4 Five was unfunny, selfish, cowardly, and most of all on a different plane of being from the Five we all knew and loved. Screw you, season 4 Five, you're not canon.

#29 -Season 4 Lila

I'm treating Lila the same way. Season 4 Lila was an injustice to seasons 2-3 Lila.

#28 -Harlan

Couldn't care less about him. He represents to me when the umbrella academy started going to shit in season 3.

#27 -Jennifer

Again, we are given no reason to care about her.

#26 -Pogo

He was just there for the exposition. They never explained why Reggie was doing experiments on monkeys??

#25 -Reggie

He was quite a good villain but i still hate him. Really goofy at times, too.

They were quite good actually. If season 4 wasn't a dumpster fire, i reckon they'd have been able to really shine.

#23 -Cha Cha

This is getting into better territory. I liked Cha Cha, she was badass, but not well developed.

#22 -Detective Patch

Again, i liked her, but she wasn't given much time to develop as a character.

#21 -The Swedes

They were funny, whimsical villains that were fun to watch on screen. Funny and whimsical are two adjectives that TUA used to embody.

They were sweet and funny too, and i miss the whole idea of the time commission.

Grace was super well performed and poignant. I have no issues with Grace.

Live, laugh, love Stan. I hate that the trauma of losing him was never mentioned in season 4 for Diego or Lila.

#10 -Lenoard Peabody/ Harold Jenkins

I stand by him being one of the best-acted and most cleverly written villains of all time. He is not only a well-executed surprise villain, but a scarily accurate one, and the actor plays him to perfection. We even start to like him before the cracks show. Also he looks like a creepy version of Lin Manuel Miranda.

#9 -Ray

Season 4 did Ray DIRTY. It was completely out of character for him to just walk out. They could have at least have him die in a tragic accident or something. Season 2 Ray is the perfect, most charismatic, ideal man and i hold him in my heart forever and in my head Alison and Ray ended up together.

#8 -Hazel

He had one of the best arcs on the show, period. Continues to represent everything good about the first two seasons of TUA. He was flawed, he was human, he was loveable.

#7 -Umbrella Ben

He seemed like he could have been a brilliant character with more screen time. His sacrifice in season 2 was a genuinely moving moment. The backstreet boys moment is SO FUNNY and his and Klaus's dynamic is something i really miss.

#6 -The Handler

We don't appreciate The Handler enough. The show started rolling downhill as soon as The Handler was gone. She was the glue that held the show together, one of the best villains/antagonists in TV history.

#5 -Allison

Yes, season 3 Allison made some stupid choices and did some terrible things, but a lot of it came from grief and she redeemed herself in season 4 imo. Seasons 1-2 Allison was one of the most charismatic, endearing and empathetic characters on the show.

#4 -Seasons 1-2 Lila

I love you. I miss you. Come back to me.

#3 -Diego

Bumped up the list for being a CONSISTENTLY good character who is flawdd but still extremely loveable and hilarious.

#2 -Seasons 1-3 Five

Seasons 1-3 Five would shoot season 4 Five in the face. He is the daddy here, and season 4 Five is the creepy uncle.

Original Five is a masterfully crafted, hilarious, unique, intelligent character and i will not let season 4 ruin it for me.

Self insert Fandom

I've come to realise that most of the toxicity within the acotar fandom is often rooted in a ridiculous amount of self insert. They see a character as them, therefore their actions are absolved. They see another character in their abuser, or worse, 'as' their abusers and so they can never be impartial towards them, thinking the worst because in real life they've dealt with a lot.

I get it. Art can sometimes mimic reality, but they are indeed forgetting that this is a whole fantasy fiction book about human women turned fae getting dicked down with a hint of war and political intrigue. These characters are not, in fact, you or your abusers. Making the series so personal to themselves can then lead to a lack of introspection of the work as a whole made to be enjoyed and critiqued to the readers' preference, whether shallow or in depth.

But because this fandom in particular seem to make these books so personal than reading it as a piece of fiction, they're inflicting real world scenarios onto fictional characters and if their characters face any backlash or reasonable questioning, they take it as a personal attack which for some reason leads to insults and wild assumptions of very REAL people.

"No, no one is saying you should forgive your abuser mum, boyfriend, sister, because this literally isn't about you. I dont know you or your situation. Im talking about *insert character*."

"No, I don't think reactive abuse is OK, though I also don't believe lying about SA is OK either, let alone condoning SA."

"What do you mean it's abusive to lock someone up and then make an excuse to say it's not abuse to lock someone else up?"

The mental gymnastics is truly outstanding. If they're so called morally grey, let them be just that.

Speaking for myself, it's easy to find some commonality in a characters personality. It's written by a whole human who has a personality too, after all. But I do not attach myself to these characters as if they are my family members or those dear to me. They are, in fact, not real, and I will talk about them in the context of a fantasy text, generally.

Now the moment you take their actions out of a fantasy text, every character, and I mean, every character, needs to be dealt with the same scrutiny. Your faves will be called out and dragged. You cannot call real people names, but then think highly of yourself when your faves have done worse. What does that then make you? A racist? A misogynist? An AS denier? An abuse apologist? Someone who endorses apartheid? Someone who's OK with controlling the female body? A war criminal?

You see how absurd that all is?

Honestly, it's not that deep. But again, it's not bad to see yourself in character. Just realise that when people have some reservations about them, they are not calling YOU out. They are strictly talking about that character and that character alone. But maybe if you find so much offence, perhaps you should think about why that is. Look deep and figure out why it troubles you so much. Perhaps they're holding up a mirror, and you simply can not bear to look into it, seeming that that character represents you so much.

I think this is the only fandom I've been involved in where simply daring to disagree with the main MC and side characters can lead to online prosecution and just so much hostility. I've seen some truly nasty comments, and it's boggling. I can imagine how off-putting it may seem to newer readers.

I long for the days when people can talk about the characters and narrative alone without feeling the need to make disclosures about what they support in real life because it's truly unnecessary. I thought reading fiction was meant to be a form of escapism, not defending my moral standpoint.

If I said I enjoyed Katherine Pierce, Klaus Mikaelson and Kai Parker from TVD, what then? They're despicable, but fucking enjoyable. Don't get me started on Game of Thrones characters.

I have acquired this!

Well this is now my new favourite book. It essentially tells the story of season one with some outtakes and adaptions. Unfortunately some of my favourite episodes and scenes have been redacted but to be fair they had a lot to cover

So far I’ve only read it through google translate (using the camera to read the pages which my brother thinks is witchcraft) so I don’t have an accurate read yet but at some point I’ll sit down and translate it properly so I can read the whole thing at once rather than in batches (curse the shaky hands)

Here’s some of may favourite features I’ve found in my rough reading, I’ll put it under read more because there’s some stuff that either doesn’t line up with the canon or I suppose is a spoiler for some headcanons

A) Otto (Addo) is alive! During the final party after defeating the Professor it’s revealed that Guggenheim managed to get him back from the organisation and he is also there at the party. Zhalia is very relieved to see him and they catch up

B) Zhalia got a leg injury in the final battle, hence leaning on Dante

C) Defoe. During Dante and Griers fight on Sutos, Dante brings up Defoe and is told “the organisation got rid of him” take that as you will

D) you know that conversation Dante and Zhalia are having in the background of Lok and Sophie’s chat after defeating Madea? They’re arguing because Zhalia wants to bond with Madea and Dante won’t let her. I just found that interesting because I thought Zhalia wouldn’t want the Titan that brought up all her past trauma

D.1) little side note, to speed things up, Zhalia defeats Madea all by herself

E) after finding out Dante was NOT mind controlled and her thoughtspectre had worked, Zhalia wanted to hug Dante but didn’t

F) Sophie has keys to Dante’s house (kind of obvious considering they’re there alone all the time but it’s a nice feature)

G) tersely and Montehue give Lok a rare book of Norse mythology as a gift after defeating the professor

H) Montehue hugs everyone during the party and hugs Lok so hard, Dante has to step in

I) Dante describes Zhalia as beautiful

J) I need to check my translation but I think Zhalia’s parents were killed

K) Zhalia: tell me you aren’t lying to save yourself

Dante: I have never lied to you and I never will

Zhalia: klaus is like a father to me, I don’t know if I’ll be able to do it

Dante: I’ll take care of it

L) “a meal worthy of metagolem” is how I’ll be complimenting food from now on

M) rather than all of them touching the crystals to see if they’re pure of heart, just Lok does it and he gets an electric sensation go through his chest

N) to celebrate the whole Thor and mjolnjr thing, Guggenheim takes everyone out to dinner

O) lok was sleeping on Dante’s sofa without permission, he just kind of moved in and Dante gave up

P) Defoe was meant to take the sword of St George to Klaus, who would study it and take it to the professor

Q) oh that whole speech about going to Vienna where Dante changes his mind and takes the team? Nope he just says no and walks out and Leblanche spends the next few days baking treats to cheer them up

R) Loks cover story for his mum and sister was going to be: Sophie is a classmate on the same intensive archeology summer course as him and Dante and Zhalia are assistants to their elderly professor who is sick which is why they’re getting a holiday (the book then skips that episode and it’s unclear whether they didn’t go or whether it’s just not mentioned)

S) Lok asks why Sutos is not under the Greek government and the holotome tells them that it’s a regent based government which is inherited to the first born son

T: Zhalia: klaus taught me everything

Dante: except honesty

U) much like most fanfiction, Cherit is forgotten throughout most of it and occasionally gets mentioned

Let's discuss Five and Lila because I need to vent urgently. They had a great relationship s2 and S3 which I found really entertaining and wholesome to watch. Like this twink of a boy and this badass woman running around trying to save the world and not strangle eachother? Cool!

But S4 Lila and Five... Thought it was kinda cute (in a platonic way) when they were investigating the Cleanse together and that they made a cool duo. Silly Diego for accusing Lila for cheating, she would never... Oh. Nevermind. 😃 Her and Five are a thing now.🥰🎀😃

Okay, all jokes aside, it's weird as hell for the two of them together because LILA, HEY, REMEMBER WHEN HE WAS LIKE THIS:

WITH HIS SCRAWNY KNEES AND SCHOOL UNIFORM?? Like yes, he's hot now, but woahh. Not to mention your adopted mum was hitting on him when he was this size too, weird AF.

AND FIVE? DID YOU FORGET THAT YOUR BROTHER LOVES THIS WOMAN?? THE BROTHER THAT YOU TRIED TO SAVE A BILLIOM TIMES FOR THE APOCALYPSE AND DEATH?

It's so bizarre that the writers thought 'yes, five needs a love interest so we'll use a character already ready as his love interest' completely disregarding the age gap (physically and mentally) and the fact that Lila and Diego are a thing.

And if I'm being completely honest... Lila and Five were cute together, all cottagecore and loveydovey. But it's weird as hell considering Lila knew Five was physically a minor and the fact he's mentally like 70 years old now. So I kinda get if you shipped them this season but the people who were shipping them in s2 and S3? Creepy AF, that's disgusting.

Honestly I don't like most of Tua canon ships (apart from Klaus and Dave, Allison and Ray and Sparrow Ben and Jennifer) all the other ones like Diego and Lila, Sloane and Luther, even Victor and Sisi jusy doesn't rock my boat, but Five and Lila is rockbottom.

Favorite Christmas season activity?

Early Christmas morning, me and my siblings swathe ourselves in blankets and congregate in the lounge. There we put on Christmas music, turn on the Christmas lights (and only the Christmas lights) and chat for a few hours until my Mum wakes up and we open presents. It dates back to us all being small and too excited to stay in bed but not dumb enough to try to wake our parents up early, but we keep doing it because it's our favourite part of Christmas without fail. We're at the point that I go to bed early on Christmas Eve, not so that Christmas will come more quickly, but so I'll be well-rested enough to get up extra earlier and this time can last longer.

4. Favorite Christmas movie(s)?

Klaus wins by a landslide. The animation style. The story. The characters. The humour. The insane violence of the townsfolk. The sexiest Santa Claus ever (who said that?). A woman with a massive knife. Nothing but wins at every turn.

However, I do also enjoy Arthur Christmas and Last Christmas is a charming fist in the face.

8. Most memorable Christmas gift you received as a child?

A history book on the kings and queens of England. This makes me sound like a monarchist (which is inaccurate), someone in possession of a British passport (absolutely not) and a nerd (which is accurate). I was so unbelievably happy, it was a wonderful day.

12. Which fictional character would you like to be caught under the mistletoe with?

[zones out for like five minutes trying to work out an in-character way for me to snog Laura Roslin] Okay yeah, that's not gonna pan out.

I'll go for Finrod, since I've been having a lot of feelings about him recently. Finrod in the Christmas spirit would just be such a joy, I just know he'd be an absolute delight. He's not going to get awkward and I feel like he's going to commit to the bit of the tradition. And even if he doesn't go for a traditional kiss, getting a kiss on the cheek or a hug (oh wow a hug, now I want that instead) from Finrod would make my year.

WIP WEDNESDAY

In a completely unsurprising turn of events, my rewrite of tbbw's chapter 5 had to be split into 2 chapters because I've added so much. So the old chapter 5's contents are now chapter 5 and 6. Here's a snippet from the new chapter 6:

“Oh my god, she’s inviting him to the Ball,” Caroline exclaimed, eyes popping between Rebekah and Matt, watching as the former smiled demurely, placing a hand on Matt’s arm and swear-to-God giggling at something he said. That snake. She spun to Elena, outraged. “Why is she inviting him?”

Elena glared at Rebekah from her seat, the anger in her eyes fading a little to make way for resignation. “Probably to get this reaction from us.”

“Urgh!” Caroline huffed, leaning back with a scowl on her face, folding her arms over her chest. “What day is this stupid dance again?”

Elena turned towards her, eyes hopeful. “You’ll come?”

Caroline rolled her eyes, still glaring at where Rebekah stood. “I’m not leaving you and Matt to those vipers.”

“You don’t have to come if you don’t want to, Caroline,” Elena said softly, looking worried. “I mean, if Klaus invited you…won’t he expect you to dance with him?”

“It’s like you said, he’s following his mum’s rules right? I should be fine. ” 

“Still, I get it if you want to bow out.”

“Not a chance,” Caroline declared firmly, offering Elena her first smile of the afternoon. “Besides, do you know how jealous Courtney will be if I go to this Ball while she’s not even invited?”

Elena’s face broke open in a grin, laughing a little. “Is she the one that-”

“That saw Klaus pick up Rebekah from school that one time and has been thirsting after him ever since? Yep,” Caroline finished for her, eyes widening to show how truly ridiculous she thought her classmate’s crush was. “I mean, objectively, I get it-” Who didn’t? Even Caroline could admit Klaus was hot. Just more in the I-kill-people-and-I-look-good-doing-it kinda way. “-but has she never heard of the phrase don’t judge a book by its cover? Or stranger danger?” 

“Clearly not,” Elena mused with a smile, picking up her menu again.

Caroline huffed, leaning down to take another sip of her coke. “And what’s worse,” she continued, talking around her straw, “she said she met one of the other brothers yesterday morning in the town square and will not stop TALKING about it.”

Elena’s brows flickered with confusion. “Elijah?”

Caroline shook her head. “No, I don’t think so. She said he looked our age, maybe a little older. Apparently she-” hear Caroline held up her fingers to make air quotes, “-‘accidentally’ bumped into him and he was totally flirting with her, and then they shared this ‘moment’-” Elena opened her mouth, no doubt to ask what Courtney meant by ‘moment’ but Caroline had already lived through Courtney’s nauseating retelling of their make out session against the wall of the Grill and she was not repeating it. “-don’t even ask - where she pointed out he had a bit of ketchup smeared on the edge of his mouth.” 

When Caroline stopped talking, staring at Elena, clearly waiting for a reaction, her friend blinked, looking lost.

“So?”

“So?” Caroline echoed, throwing her hands out in frustration. “Elena, it clearly wasn’t ketchup.”

Elena’s eyes widened in realisation. “You think it was blood.”

“That family? With their record?” Caroline scoffed, leaning back with her head held high. “I know it was blood.”

“Kol’s not one for table manners, I’m afraid,” Rebekah announced, joining their conversation. Caroline flinched a little at her sudden appearance behind her - why was it, she could be so loud in those heels when she walked away but so silent when sneaking up behind them? Dramatic bitch.

“Were you listening in?” she asked to hide her unease. “Creeper.”

Rebekah shot her a smile that was all fake pleasantries and masked murderous intent. “Only when you started gossiping about the bachelorhood of my brothers.” She tilted her head, eyes raking over Caroline, silently judging her. “To think I once respected your taste in men.”

Rebekah’s nose scrunched up with disgust, familiar with their dark-haired classmate who was a particular breed of rich who thought every new trend was the height of social status. At the moment, the girl was on some vegan diet she’d found on a guy’s blog and bragging about the advantages of goat yoga.

“Kol was flirting with Courtney? I very much doubt that.”

Caroline sent her most saccharine smile back, the one that was all politeness but said in my head, I’m stabbing you in the eye with a hot poker. “Maybe your brother’s just shallow, like you.”

Rebekah’s face dropped, lips twisting into a sneer.

Elena awkwardly cleared her throat, shooting Caroline a warning glare. “Kol? That’s his name, then? Your brother?” she asked Rebekah, diverting her deadly attention from Caroline. 

When Caroline didn’t back down, merely raising her chin higher in challenge, something relented in Rebekah’s eyes and slowly, she turned to Elena, even though she glanced back at Caroline with a contemplative look on her face from time to time.

“Finn’s the eldest. Kol though, he’s younger than Klaus. Older than me. I’m sure you’ll meet them both soon, or Kol will eat you,” she said with a smile at Elena, turning to walk away, this time to leave the Grill, heels clicking behind her. “Whichever comes first, he’s not one to play by my mother’s rules.”

“Elijah won’t stand for it!” Elena shouted after her, as determined as Caroline to get in the last word.

Neither saw Rebekah’s smirk.

“As long as Kol isn’t setting the house fire,” she called back over her shoulder, “I doubt my dear older brother will care.”

Mum's rewatching season 3 of TVD and I thought my memory was exaggerating things but no... THIS

really did come out of absolutely nowhere.

They had one brief face-to-face interaction when Klaus was turning Tyler into his slave- oh, I'm sorry, I meant, Giving Tyler Freedom From His Werewolf Curse, Oh Gee Isn't Tyler Such An Ungrateful Asshole. And he mentions Caroline's name briefly during the Homecoming episode. That's it. They had zero connection before this.

But now, again out of absolutely nowhere, he's got a thing for her.

It's lazy writing! There is no other way to describe it! It's just lazy! And I am well aware this wasn't the only ship to be like that.

Jeremy waved you off with Asher, you were going on a date, after everything that happened they all figured you needed some time to yourself. Katherine had recently stopped by to tell you that Klaus was expecting a baby in New Orleans, something he had neglected to tell you before leaving, it was only a couple of days later that someone asked you on a date, even with the knowledge that you had twins at home so you were excited to give him a chance, however Asher had been grumpy all day and you almost decided to call it off but Jeremy promised you that they would be fine.

Jay had gone on a trip with Damon and Stefan so it was just Asher and Jeremy, while he had been well behaved he wasn’t himself, they had watched all the movies that he wanted to and eaten, it was now time for bed, he had sent Asher upstairs while he got his blood ready “never thought this was something that I would be doing for my child.” He mumbled as he held up the sippy cup of blood, he shrugged before heading up the stairs. Jeremy walked into Asher's bedroom, he smiled at the decoration, a forest themed room with glow in the dark stars on the ceiling “alright big guy you going to tell me what’s going on?” He asked. “What if mum leaves, you do all the time.” Asher said, Jeremy walked over handing him the cup before picking him up. “She’s not going to leave you kid, I can promise you that, she loves you just like the rest of us, I only leave because I live with Auntie Elena and Ric.” Jeremy explained. “I think Damon would kill me if I lived here.” “Why?” Asher asked. “Never mind about that, come on, it's time for bed.” He said. “I’m not tired.” Asher mumbled. “How are you not tired, I’m exhausted.” Jeremy complained. “That’s because you're old.” He mumbled. “Oh really well then if that is how we’re going to behave then I’ll have to call Damon and tell him what you said and then he’ll keep your present all for himself and Klaus will have to talk to Santa about taking you off the nice list.” Jeremy teased as he tickled his side, he laughed as he climbed back into bed “remember Asher I’m always just a phone call away, you can just ask Mummy to call me and I’ll come see or talk to you I promise.” “Okay thank Dad.” He said as Jeremy turned off the light and headed back downstairs, he sat on the sofa as he thought about what his life and led to, with two 2 year old Tribrid twins and how scary that was, he then realised that he wasn’t even the one that looked after them the most and his thought shifted to you. The girl who took on everything and just kept going you were brave, braver than anyone would give you credit for.

WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT!!??!??!???

First of thx so much! Now, onto my many complaints about s4!

Let's start positively.

The first episode was really good and refreshing. It set up a good idea for the season and how the characters have developed.

But then...

Lila.

They completely ruined her character she had pretty much no emotional connection to.. anything! Her part of the story in s4 was horribly written.

Including her family.

Seeing how important family was for Lila in s2 (particularly the end), it just doesn't make sense how she was so easily persuaded to leave them. Her and her Deigos' kids were also badly written (yes ik they were side characters) bc let's be honest, their kids should not be that normal.

It also just doesn't make sense for Lila to be a stay at home mum she's just way too (for lack of a better word) adventurous to stay at home all day. I have the same issue with Deigo being a mail man that job is just too boring for him, and they're both very well qualified for a much better job, so why!?

Five and Lila.

It is so disgusting and unnecessary no matter how you try to look at it. It also just doesn't make sense with the characters. Lila shows no interest in five at any point and vice versa. And looking back at s1 five, he cares way too much about family, especially Deigo, to do that.

Which brings me to my next point LITERALLY NOTHING IS CONSISTENT!!!!!! it's like the writers wrote a whole different show bc nothing matches up with the past seasons!! (No, I'm not giving examples. There are way too many)

The last episode feels very rushed. Idk how to really elaborate, but yk.

KLAUS.

Oh my poor klaus, what have they done to you.

I really wish they had explored his character more. Like, yes, he had a side plot, but it didn't explore his character it just gave him more screen time. He is my favourite! They had so much potential! Now, ik going from being immortal to mortal would be terrifying, but this is klaus, he wouldnt just stop wearing amazing outfits bc he's more likely to die he would still wear bright clothes and pokadot masks and shit. This brings me to my next point.

ALL THE OUTFITS ARE SO BORING.

Before, it was easy to spot most of them in a crowd (except for Viktor, which was intentional), but now the outfits are boring and general and don't tell you anything about the characters.

Also, they did Sloane so dirty they mention her once, then nobody cares! Luther loved Sloane so much ik he would still be grieving.

Also, they didn't think the story through bc if none of the academy existed, then neither should their kids, and this would cause another grandfather paradox!

Brisket Five was the only good thing in this season.

She’s deep, deep in her thoughts when there’s a knock on the door, and when she calls for the arrival to enter, it’s her mother.

“Mom, hi,” Caroline says, and quickly clicks out of the photos of the massacre from yesterday on her desktop. Maybe Mum doesn’t need to see all that.

“Sweetie.” Mum comes to sit in the armchair in front of her desk.

“So!” Caroline claps her hands. It’s painfully awkward. “What brings you to my office?” Sitting in a chair that’s usually occupied by people pleading for something, or trying to convince her that what they want is also what she wants.

It’s very, very weird to see her mum sitting where Becker Wexer had sat a few days ago.

Mum gives her a smile that’s a bit strange, almost as if all the same thoughts that are going through Caroline’s head are also going though hers, but that’s impossible, of course.

“I had a talk, yesterday,” she says at last. “With Klaus.”

“Oh.”

Well, that can’t have gone well. Rarely anything involving both her mother and her fiancé ever goes well.

“Look whatever he said, you surely must see as clearly as we all do that he’s currently not exactly operating at—”

“Caroline!” Mum interrupts. “It was fine, actually.”

“Oh,” Caroline says again, in a completely different tone of voice. “Really?”

She doesn’t think that’s ever happened before. Usually, when her mum and Klaus interact, they only have complaints.

“Mmmhmm.”

“Right. Well … that’s great.” Yep. This is completely new territory. “What did you guys talk about?”

For a moment, her mother’s eyes shutter closed, and then it’s like it never happened. “Let’s say we came to a truce.”

Now, Caroline’s eyebrows really fly up. “You and Klaus?”

“He didn’t tell you?”

She almost freezes. There were other things to speak of, last night.

The skin of her shoulder burns as if his eyes are still on it.

“I guess it didn’t come up. I mean, I’m glad.”

“It was for your sake. He suggested it. I couldn’t exactly refuse.”

Caroline nods. “Thank you. It means a lot.” Reduces the level of stress she’s under, if nothing else.

Her mum doesn’t leave, or say anything else. She just stays there, sitting, watching.

Caroline looks so much like her—it’s like looking into a distorted mirror image. Mum’s got her head angled a little, probably unconscious, and her eyes are depthless.

“Mom?”

Mum’s eyes fall on her hands. Her ring. The one with the black stone, not the blue. “Why do you stay here, Caroline?”

Caroline straightens. She doesn’t need to hear any more of this—she cuts the rest of the speech her mum had prepared with a wave of her hand. “Don’t.”

“I’m serious. Your engagement clearly isn’t—”

“Klaus will return to me,” she snaps back. “As soon as the Alcaide amulet is in our possession, and knowing us, that’s sooner rather than later that we’re looking at.”

“Caroline—”

“And even if he never does …” She shakes her head. “There is so much more I’m doing here, Mom. It’s not just about him. I have a family here, I have a place, a role, responsibilities and privileges, and …” She swallows. “My life is here, Mom. And what a life it is.

“Don’t ask that of me, Mom. You know I can’t give you that. You know I don’t want to.”

Her mother looks away. “I’m sorry.”

“I know you don’t … understand. This thing between Klaus and me. But I didn’t jump into life in New Orleans, into an engagement, head-first with no consideration. I guess it may have seemed that way to you, since I didn’t exactly, like, consult with you before I did these things, so maybe it seems like it all came out of nowhere … but it didn’t, Mom. This was a long time coming, all of it. This stupid amnesia curse is just another hurdle on the road, but I’ve broken through every hurdle that came before it.”

“I just want what’s best for you.”

Caroline shrugs. “I know that.” Her dad wanted what was best for her, and so did Tyler, and Matt, and scores of other people. “But Mom, you have to trust me to know what’s best for me myself.”

“Is this?” Mum waves her hand all over the office, as if she can sense the gore that was on her desktop just a moment ago. “Is this what’s best for you? You’ll never have peace here.”

“I’m a vampire, I’d never have peace in the usual sense anyway. But I’m with my family here. I’m doing something worth doing.”

“Ruling?” Mum asks.

Caroline gives her a look. “Don’t say it like it’s a bad thing. This city is a safe haven for the supernatural. Here, we can thrive. We are closer to living out in the open than anywhere else in the world, and when we don’t have to worry about hunters picking us all off, we have the time, the space, for our culture to flourish. There is so much of it, Mom. Millennia-worth.”

“And it’s your duty to safeguard that?”

“Why not?”

“I hope you know …” Mum attempts, then tries again: “I hope you know I just want you to be happy.”

“I know.”

“Okay. Okay.” Mum wipes her hands on the legs of her trousers. “I love you.”

Caroline nods. “And I you.”

Hi! To clear up some confusion because multiple people keep asking me this; “Who is the Emerson family?” Or at least a member of them TW FOR MENTIONS OF DEATH AND SEMI-VIOLENT SCENES

Let’s start with Mr. Emerson himself! John Emerson!

John is a policeman that usually either gets stationed in the neighborhood he lives in, or he goes around patrolling other neighborhoods in the town. He’s been in the police business for a while (years) and he likes doing it! He loves helping people! However he does have a side to him that can and will kill you (or at least seriously injure you) if you hurt the people he cares about, mainly his family. His immune system isn’t very great and he gets sick a lot around the flu season, which kinda sucks, but he refuses to not go to work, which kind of worries Mary (and Ryder as well). It’ll get to the point where Mary forces him to stay in bed, she will literally wrap him in a blanket to make him stay. He is very loyal (COUGH COUGH. @lord-of-the-bundle-of-sticks @todds-diary @that-fruitier-emo) and we love him for that. He taught Ryder basic manners and to actually respect women, despite most fathers at the time not caring about the latter, which is why Ryder is so insistent on teaching that to the other kids (island kids and daycare kids). Ryder really looks up to him, even after the island, although he’s more subtle about it after the island because he’s more reserved in general. Overall a great guy, I’d talk to him about my problems and he’d hug me as I rambled.

Next is Mrs. Emerson, Mary Emerson!

She is a saint I swear…and pretty…Beautiful even…Anyways! She’s a daycare worker, she made her own daycare because the others in the area kinda sucked in her opinion (discrimination issues among various types of people + “what about the poor people with children :( we have to help them somehow”) she will literally give discounts near the holidays please go to her daycare. Literally the most comforting person aside from Ryder himself. She doesn’t care who you are (and she might know who you ARE before you realize, in Ryder’s case…🏳️‍🌈) she will be there for you, it doesn’t matter how hard you breakdown, she will find a way to comfort you. She says that she doesn’t have a favorite child in the daycare, but she definitely does (it’s technically Ryder but he works with her so he doesn’t count) nobody knows who it is and the kids try to play guessing games, and everytime she leaves the room to do something, the children repeatedly ask Ryder who’s the favorite and he doesn’t know either, but he says that he likes Klaus a lot (@lord-of-the-bundle-of-sticks oc) and Ira (will reveal all of the daycare children soon enough, also Ira is they/them). She taught Ryder how to cook and somehow Ryder surpassed her skills in cooking, but Ryder always says she’s better, because he IS a mama’s boy and he can’t bring himself to make his mum sad ever. I just wanna hug her and melt hhgfssmhgh….Oh I love her so…💚💚💚 She’s my wife but also not-

Lastly, my favorite little guy (he is 16, he is not little) Ryder Emerson!

Despite what all the kids think, he’s not actually an angel, he does typical teenager stuff (sneaking out at night, occasionally drinking because of Lust, and rotting in his room for months after the island! Y’know, totally usual behavior for teens please don’t rot in your rooms that’s bad for your mental health) and he might’ve indirectly caused a few deaths on the island, but we aren’t talking about that- He scarred Gluttony because he killed Sloth and Ryder obviously didn’t like that he bit Jack and Maurice out of self defense, and he might’ve smacked Roger on the head on the island at least twice…He got tired of them eventually. I swear he’s overall a good person, that island just really messed him up mentally and physically. In the fight between Jack and Ralph at the end, Ryder ended up getting scars from Maurice because Maurice slashed him with his spear, meaning to stab him (it was Jack’s command and Maurice was kind of a little gone). Speaking of the Merridew kid, he and Ryder are therapy partners/friends together due to their therapist thinking that exposed therapy would be a good thing for them, which it kind of was. Ryder got so much better after talking to everyone that survived on the island, even though he still feels iffy with some of them (Ralph, Roger, Maurice, Samneric all technically betrayed him in some way). His relationships with the sins (also @lord-of-the-bundle-of-sticks ocs) got so much better, although Gluttony’s was…Not good for a while, they eventually forgave each other in their own way, I’d like to say it started here, which I believe would take place a couple months after they got off the island: https://archiveofourown.org/works/52156768/chapters/131921551
