When entering any place of business, such as a store or restaurant, if a staff member greets you, then acknowledge them and greet them back.
Although for many jobs it's a required part of their job to greet you, especially retail workers, receptionists, and restaurant workers to name a few, that doesn't make it feel any less dehumanizing to say "Hello!" to another human being only for them to ignore you. Acknowledging staff members and greeting them back is important for acknowledging their humanity, they are, after all, a human being, and not an automated machine.
This is also important when going to check out at a store. If you approach the cash register, and the cashier greets you, you should acknowledge them and greet them back. Cashiers already have to deal with being dehumanized enough. The least you can do is help humanize them by acknowledging them when they greet you and speak to you.
#story time#when I worked retail I had several co-workers#who if someone approached the register and didn't say 'góðan daginn' back#my co-workers would just repeat themselves and refuse to start scanning their stuff until they said góðan daginn back#I did do that myself once or twice#but only to customers who I recognized and had spoken to before (and were speaking to someone else as they were approaching the register)#so I knew it wasn't an issue of being non-verbal or unable to speak that particular day#but otherwise I tried not to make a habit of it#especially with customers I didn't recognize and hadn't heard speaking to anyone else#since you never knew who was non-verbal or was disassociating ect.#I've also been in foreign countries where I was young and scared and afraid to respond to the cashier and give away that I was a foreigner#so anyway I tried to be understanding#but at the same time it did always feel dehumanizing to greet people all day and just get ignored#manners#good manners#courtesy#etiquette#politeness

Rhaegar Targaryen is easily one of GRRM’s best deconstructions of the genre and we don’t talk about it enough. He’s prince living in a world full of magic and wonder that has dwindled over time. His own family had a great monopoly on one of the most magical phenomena (dragons) to ever exist, but they lost this control over time and it was due to their own faults. But there’s an all encompassing hope that this magic, these dragons, will come back. They all live within the promise that it will all be back and with a huge bang. It’s all so romantic. Magical forces of ice and fire battling it out in a song.
Then there’s Rhaegar, a prince born for the sole purpose of being this song’s romantic hero. He already has his destiny mapped out and it will be a great one, greater than any other man who ever lived. It’s a song of ice and fire, and Rhaegar is its bard. You’d expect this to give him joy. Yet by all accounts, he was depressed as fuck. I think he’s unfairly earned the reputation of having an ego so big to think that he will be the hero….but that’s quite literally the point of his existence. He was born to be the hero. He paid the price at birth to be the hero. How can he revel and glory in this destiny when he has no say in it?
So it’s genuinely funny that when given the chance, Rhaegar immediately pivots to someone else taking on this burden. But how tragic for him that he cannot escape it too far. Because it will be none other than his own son who, under a “bleeding star”, is marked at conception for this great destiny without a say. More than his ego, Rhaegar is marked by the inability to escape this duty. His whole life is dedicated to fulfilling a duty he can never escape. He isn’t just a future king, prophecy dictates that the world’s survival is placed squarely on his shoulders. Even when he isn’t the hero, he’s now responsible for raising him…
…but then he makes one decision and it all comes crumbling like a pack of biscuits. He escapes this burden…but dies. And his successor dies too. And now the ones who will inherit his legacy are two people who never knew him. They never knew of his burdens, of this prophecy. But they too cannot escape its jaws. I think this does bring up some interesting questions about the nature of fate and destiny in the world of ice and fire. Can you really escape it? Rhaegar tried to, and paid the price for his defiance, but he never truly made it out because the burden instead jumped to the son (and sister) he never knew. Funny thing is that in a bizarre (and tragic, in its own way) twist of fate, this son was brought up entirely without the trappings of power that depressed Rhaegar. Rhaegar was a dazzling prince, Jon is a bastard. Rhaegar was marked by his great inheritance, Jon is marked by the lack thereof. Does fate say “well the first one got too depressed by having too much so let’s give the next one nothing?” Even Dany, who grows up a princess does not have the privileges that Rhaegar did. So how does upbringing craft a hero and the choices they make? Welll, GRRM had given us two versions of Rhaegar’s tragedy in Jon and Dany for us to see.
Rhaegar’s impact on the meta-narrative is honestly so massive. Like I’d put him right up there with Quentyn, Sansa, and Bran as one of the best genre deconstructions in the series and no one can tell me otherwise.
#rhaegar you are a hot mess express BUT THEY COULD NEVER MAKE ME HATE YOU!!!#this is why i dont think rhaegar approached lyanna specifically for prophecy - however twisted i genuinely think he did it for love#it just works better from a narrative standpoint if he chose love for the first time in his life and this love allowed him to escape duty#but then he paid the ultimate price for it because he just can’t walk away#only death can pay for life and all that#in my rhaegar posting hours#brb gonna sob uncontrollably#asoiaf#valyrianscrolls#rhaegar targaryen#jon snow#daenerys targaryen

ok INCREDIBLY old content originally meant for this blog but in 2018 when i was just a wee lad with a little spinner propeller hat and big rainbow lollipop i went to a carnivorous plant convention in california and met a bunch of people who breed/collect/study these guys. one person was this collector who was slowly working on leaving the hobby or at least no longer growing plants, and he had a bunch of carnivorous plant related files he was charging like 50 cents for or something, and so i came into possession of these, which are examples of the kind of paperwork you have to have done to legally ship/trade endangered species of both plants and animals. functionally very boring paperwork, but something i found like, incredibly fascinating. i blacked out the personal id of the person and then immediately forgot to ever upload them, lmao.
these plants were bred and raised in a greenhouse and sold abroad, not taken from the wild, but because the species are endangered and often protected in their native countries (most of these are nepenthes, asian pitcher plants, a huge family spread throughout oceania and southeast asia), there's a lot more documentation that needs to be done regardless of their origin, both on the end of the seller and on the end of the buyer.
the rabbit hole on carnivorous plant trade is deep and kind of wild. there's plenty of common, non-threatened, greenhouse-grown pitcher plants on the market that people buy all the time, even non-collectors, but there's a whole debate to be had on if it's morally okay to be collecting the more endangered/rare of these plants in the first place. the big argument for breeding is that breeding them in captivity means there's more supply that's not poached from the wild, meaning poachers have less of an incentive to take the risk of taking adult plants from their habitats; from what i've heard, sometimes countries will issue permits for breeders to collect some wild seeds just to create a non-wild breeding pool to drive down the price. predictably, however, you also get people who are very much willing to pay a lot of money to get as rare of a plant as possible.
anyone familiar with the allure valuable plants have had over people throughout history can imagine the rest, but here's an article about a guy who started buying poached plants to enrich his private nepenthes collection, who then got busted by a fish and wildlife service agent embedded in his carvirorous plant circle. the plants this guy was buying were being sold to him without any CITES paperwork or declarations like the ones above; it was literally just a guy in indonesia taking rare plants from the woods around where he lived, selling them over facebook marketplace and ebay, and mailing them overseas as an undeclared 'gift' to get around customs. frighteningly small steps to take on all sides, to be honest.
(also, fun fact: another example of carnivorous plants that get poached are wild venus fly traps, which are only native to north and south carolina in the US. from what i understand it's a mix of people who genuinely did not know it's a native species and people who really are just going out into the woods and digging up plants to sell online. sometimes poaching is closer to home than you'd think!)
anyway. wild and interesting times in the land of plants recovered from a hard drive lmao
#nepenthes#annual 'plant poaching happens and it doesnt always look like the movies' post i suppose but also i think its really interesting#also the CITES system could do with an overhaul in how it approaches plants as well from what i understand but thats another thing#ive heard that like many systems like this they do not have the same urgency for plants as they do for animals#mostly because people just!! they dont get plants man!! they just say whatever its a plant!!#and poaching in general is only ever talked about like its with taking elephants for their tusks and stuff#also important conservation work but sometimes poaching really is just a guy with a shovel and that shit is WILD#carnivorous plants

PROTECT THE CHILDREN!
Something happens and the Justice league need some information about ghosts. Specifically, those associated with the infinite realms. Unfortunately, the amount of experts on that topic is severely lacking. They seek out a pair of scientists who had stopped by Star City for a ghost convention and learned some of their devices actually worked on ghosts. However, they end up meeting a ghost at that convention who lets it slip that the Fenton couple are absolute morons and to just avoid them. They know practically nothing. If the Justice League really wants information, they should ask one of the Fenton kids instead. But be warned…if anything happens to those kids, the ghosts will rip them apart.
Because in this universe, Danny and Jazz spend most of their time protecting the other ghosts from their parents just as much as they protect the town from ghosts. Even when Danny is Phantom, the other ghosts treat him more as a friend and like to poke around and mess with him. But the ghosts essentially pack bonded to those two kids, so while it’s all fun and games to mess with them and cause a little bit of destruction, if anyone actually messed with them, there would be hell to pay.
The Justice League does not know this. All they know is that ties between the infinite realms and earth are so bad that most contact has been cut off besides violence, and somehow, these two kids are the only credible experts the ghosts might listen to.
Little did they know how protective the Amity park ghosts actually were, and how difficult it would be to get within 5 feet of the kids, let alone talk with them.
#Dpxdc#dcxdp#Kizzer55555 ideas#basically the entirety of Phantom’s rogue gallery is obstructing the Justice League.#Like…imagine Batman is trying to walk up to the kids and suddenly he’s shoved aside by an avalanche of boxes.#Or Green Arrow approaches and is suddenly abducted by a dragon. Wonder Woman is blocked by a crowd of mind controlled Ember fans.#Superman is suddenly hit mid air with a floating pirate ship.#Martian Manhunter almost got there but a grey teen with glasses grabbed his feet and yoinked him underground.#It’s only thanks to his own intangibility that he got out.#Flash is still traumatized by the flaming unicorn and the Black Knight who rode it. They challenged him to a sword fight.#Changing into civilian forms doesn’t work either. Identities don’t matter to ghosts. They clocked the heroes immediately.#Skulker boobytrapped the entire town. The only ones safe from the traps were Danny and Jazz ironically (and their closest friends).#Also. Aquaman and Aqualad were stuck in an iceberg by a pajama wearing ghost a while ago.#And pretty sure all the green lanterns need to be broken out of ghost prison. How did that happen?

Smash Bros'd his classic look#With some tearing on the cape cause i said so ............#at most- with the furthermost right bit- i just wanted to emphasize a feeling of 'power' hence the chunkier boots + gloves#with the first look i tried that angle with showing some arm skin buuuuttt i dont like it ...#i think the sleeveless look really only works if the outfit's black idk i cant explain it#overall the first design i tried just feels too sleek for my liking if i wanted to go for a 'power' approach#i like the 'M' i did with the legs at least. i really wanted to incorporate an M in case it wasnt clear but alas ...#tbh i might steal the boots/gloves/underwear design from myself when i draw classic magneto regularly. SHRUG we'll see#as for now i am very sleepy and i have class in the morning and i want to do some work Before Class#very cool but very sad i dont have my third class today :( its my fave class :( at least i get more time to work#and the more work i get done the more time i get to draw the sillies !!! epic ...#anyways. good night everyone !!!!!!! talk to yall tomorrow ..... probably ... or later ig technically... i should sleep earlier <- wont

Prompt 181
“Hey. Hey Tuck. Tucker. Tuck look. Look.”
Tucker looked over the edge of the screen lazily, the half interested words on his tongue dying as he let out a wheeze of laughter. “Oh my Ancient Sands, dude, how did you manage that?”
Danny had, for the last near year, been trying to mix shapeshifting, thank you Amorpho, with duplication. Something he’d apparently succeeded in today, if the massive fuck-you hydra standing before him was any indication. The very pleased looking, well did it count as a hydra if it had wings too?
“You need to show Sam. Oh my Sands we need to show Val too. And Wes. You did it dude!” He floated up to look at Danny, who did a little twirl to show off. He shook his head, flecks of gold and sand falling from his hair as he laughed.
“Do you think,” Danny lost it in laughter as several other heads echoed his words, from whichever the main him was. “Holy ancients that’s great- do, do you think we can make a dragon club? Hydras are totally dragons right? Do you think we could pull a Tiamat?”
He landed on a head, taking a selfie to add to the groupchat labeled Preparations. “Dude, we should, but let me send this to the others first… But I am so down.”
They can, in fact apparently, pull a Tiamat- with a little help from Princess Dora, practice in front of Frostbite in case something goes wrong, and some advice from Pandora on controlling extra limbs. Honestly, who is going to want to mess with Amity when there’s a giant dragon? And hey, maybe they can break the barrier now!
The heads for those wondering who I was thinking of for each lol And perhaps what they might all get ((1) Kwan, Pressurized Water) ((2) Wes, Sonic Blast) ((3) Sam, Poison Gas) ((4) Star, Plasma) ((5) Danny, Ice Breath) ((6) Paulina, Acid) ((7) Tucker, Electricity) ((8) Valerie, Fire Breath) ((9) Dash, Pressurized Wind)
#Prompts#The Class Pulls a Tiamat#They’re all adults and graduated#But can’t exactly go anywhere thanks to the shield/barrier around the town#The whole town is now liminal as hell thx to the ecto having nowhere to disperse#Bounced back from the shield back into the city from the portal#Dcxdp#Dpxdc#Dp x Marvel#Whichever works for u#Amity is under an info blackout thanks to the barrier#They have no idea what’s happening outside#Hey if they can’t break the barrier themselves they’ll just combine their might together#Liminal Amity Park#The group when they succeed in becoming dragon: We are Death Destroyer of Worlds#The GIW panic and call heroes in when a Very Big THING not only approaches the ghost shield#but actually looks like it might get through#The rest of Amity might pull a Become Dragon too but honestly up to yall#Amity: Ghosts are illegal but dragons aren't!

There are many things people expect from one called 'God of Blood'. Always, the first thought is the blood of war, the blood of violence, the blood of the weak shed for the goals of the strong. Ares doesn't think of the blood of battle at all. When he thinks of blood, he envisions the many tied knots of blood bonds and bonds forged in the blood of battle. Blood sons and blood daughters, blood brothers and battle sisters, blood oaths and blood vengeance - he watches over them all and keeps close each one of these bonds.
One cannot begrudge his displeasure then when he realises he cannot tell Leto's offspring apart just by looking at them.
It was easier when it was just Artemis. Dark hair curled about her shoulders, a fierce mien whenever Father summons her to the mountain, a scattering of bones and blood shed whenever she was disturbed; the eldest child of Leto was a wild thing, sharp toothed with sharper claws always at the ready. There's whispers of her being a twin, of her other half being made to crawl on their belly as penance for their sin of god-slaying but Ares pays it little mind. What twins look alike among their number? Even dog litters are born distinct with all their unique markings inlaid in their fur. Artemis' twin too would be much more than their sister's mirror image.
Pouring over his list now, he wishes anything about Phoebus Apollo was that simple.
Mirror image did not begin to describe it. The twins were the same height, the same build, had the same colour and texture hair, ate the same raw food and drank the same amount of nectar. There was no difference in how they dressed, no difference in the company they kept, no variance in the weapons they used. There are some days Ares still cannot believe Phoebus will grow into a man and not some nymph with the way his ears have that slender point. He watches them now, sitting together beneath a shady palm and stringing their bows in an uncanny unison and curses because he still cannot tell them apart. What use is his skill in knowing blood when they both have the same damn blood running through their veins? What bond is there to sense when they are tied so tightly together, Ares can scarcely tell brother from sister?
He sighs. Unadorned and completely alone, the only way to know who is who is to speak to them. He'll have to find more ways to tell them apart from a distance. Surely they cannot stay this similar all the rest of their immortal lives.
#ginger writes#hello and welcome to my 'ares is doing his best' corner#I can't overstate enough how alike Artemis and Apollo are as young gods physically#literally identical twin status which only begins to change as they acquire different domains#I was really happy with the font I got because it very closely resembles what I imagine Ares' handwriting to be like#But I'll gladly add an image description if it's too illegible#That said Ares has an interesting dynamic with the twins#In a lot of ways there's a sense of guilt/wariness surrounding him for Apollo and Artemis#because he knows how much they stress his mother out and he also knows how much Hera doesn't like Leto#But there's also a bit of fascination because Artemis is extremely strong#(in a way that's markedly different from Athena's strength)#while Apollo has all of these crazy stories attached to him from killing Python + his work while exiled#but when he returns he's very placid and calm and almost?? too nice? Definitely nothing like Artemis#in terms of personality#Ares doesn't really trust it until he learns that straight up that's just What Apollo Is Like#That too will change eventually but for now Ares just doesn't want to approach Artemis the way he'd approach Apollo#because he'd get his head caved in with the curved side of a bow#There are precious few encounters Ares has had with Artemis where he hasn't walked away with#at least a few arrow wounds LMAO#He'll eventually be forced to accept that it's Artemis' love language#ares#artemis#apollo#pursuing daybreak posting#writing

aziraphale's avoidance issues, though
like they're similar to but also different from crowley's. because crowley physically tries to avoid things, like let's leave the bookshop when angry, let's suggest going to alpha centauri when the world's in danger, let's drive gabriel out to dartmoor and leave him there, etc
but aziraphale mentally checks out. let's pretend like it's silly to be wary of an amnesiac archangel who has previously threatened us and could regain his memory with no warning, let's fixate on hooking up these two random humans instead of thinking about the very real threats being levied against us by heaven and hell, let's ignore a goon squad of demons right outside the door so we can have our jane austen fantasy ballroom dance, etc
aziraphale is just as prone to running away as crowley does, but like many things with them, he tends to do it internally instead of externally. like yes on the one hand he is a determined optimist, he's not naive he chooses to believe in good things and try to make them happen.
but on the other hand, his approach to a lot of bad stuff is to just sort of not think about it until it's throwing a brick through his window
#good omens#aziraphale#i love him he has my exact same awful approach to shit#like well i don't know how to deal with that so i just won't#and then one day i guess i'll die#sorry bud i know i've tried it but it's no good it only magically works out sometimes because crowley takes care of it instead

his work motto prolly hhhhf (the "fuck amygdala, fuck azai" silently swings in his tone)
#saran; watching his baby project gone to shit after his death thanks to azai: fuck this and fuck that and fuck you specially#the true founder/boss decides on his own and he chooses mercy!! no more report punishments!!!!#amygdala stuff#also shows azai and saran many differences even if its just azais will being acted out through the ppl working for him right there#(the superior wanting vika to rewrite the entire report again and again and again)#azai who believes in strict punishments to get what he wants as fast as possible and make the ppl “below him” pay for their mistakes;#pay for not being what he wants (like saran had to pay with his life)#vs saran who believes in gentle discipline without pressure on the mind or body or putting himself in a higher position of power#his usual approach is to help vika without interfering or doing the work for him so he gets to learn and do things his own but#right there hes doing vikas punishment bc he doesnt see the purpose of it. it only leads to vika making more mistakes out of mental fatigue#the only purpose is to humiliate him and punish him for things he has little to no control over#in a bigger sense; saran wont allow azai to shape vika into something HE wants with punishments and force#wip#tbd#this turned into such a ramble oof

like i do not think we have to reinvent the wheel when it comes to interesting and meaningful theatrical storytelling / i am someone who is wholeheartedly and directly invested in the development and production of new theatre (as this is quite literally part of what i do for a living) and yet i can count on both hands the number of new plays i've read and/or seen this year that i would consider groundbreaking in terms of content form aesthetics politics etc. and the plays and playwrights that purport their work to be oh-so-radical and "out there" and avante-garde rarely are doing anything i find remotely novel + the plays and playwrights that have stuck with me most this years are ones created by artists who i think are invested in (not to sound hokey but) what the art itself is doing and what reactions are drawn upon viewing it and what bigger conversations can occur when we engage with this particular piece of storytelling in this moment
#because for me the purpose of radical theatre isn't simply to smash through boundaries be them formal or aesthetic or whatever it's to tell#a meaningful and impactful story that still has weight on the viewer after the lights come up and you leave the building and go home#the theatre friends i have on here who have done me the great honor of not only allowing me to read their work but trust me and my#perspective enough to give them dramaturgical feedback so excite me with their work because they imho have an approach to storytelling that#resonates with what i think theatre can do and that to me is so exciting to see but i need people to produce their work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally watched Blue Eye Samurai and damn, this show really is everything everyone's been saying. But also man, it's really making me think how much I wish non-animated shows focused on visuals. With everything being nearly-fully CGI, why do movies and shows have to look so... boring? If a friend group with a 90s camcorder can do it, why can't Disney (check out GGLS btw)? Idk, just frustrates me. Anyway, here's this show being eye candy.
#GGLS is Green Goblin's Last Stand#legit for a film made by friends with pocket change it has some seriously impressive cinematography sometimes#blue eye samurai#mizu blue eye samurai#also MAN i love how they handle disabilities in the show#i cant speak for the amputee rep but as someone with speech impediments (stammer and a lisp) i adore the way they approached it#like “mind works so fast mouth can't keep up” is literally something i use to explain my stammer#and then portraying it not only as something undeserving of hate but also as beautiful and worth love/sexual desire?#man that shit put a giddy lil smile on my face#netflix#animation#mizu#takayoshi blue eye samurai
