Okay I've thought a lot about how I would do the Tom King Best of the Best style Black Canary vs. Shiva fight (whilst keeping as much of the original idea in tact).
Tumblr media
Main thing is that I would change the training line up. In his version you have Wildcat (Ted Grant), the original Black Canary (Dinah Drake), and Batman training her. And while I love her JSA links getting a shout out I have no idea why Batman is there except for the fact that both King and DC think Batman has to be everywhere.
If I was to redo it I would have the lineup instead be:
Dinah Drake and Ted Grant
Connor Hawke
Cassandra Cain
So partially this is just because Connor Hawke and Cassandra Cain are two of the best hand-to-hand fighters in the DC universe who have previously and fought and held their own against Lady Shiva.
But also they also have more thematic significance. Along with Grant and Drake represent the key superhero groups that Dinah has been part of and shaped throughout her superhero career. Drake and Grant representing the JSA who raised her. Connor Hawke representing the Arrow Family she shaped. And Cassandra Cain representing the Birds of Prey she co-founded and her future as a hero.
(She has also been JLA/JLI and you could fit Batman in for that, but I would argue that she is the premiere hand-to-hand fighter of the main JLA cast over him)
Not only does this provide a good showcase of different chapters Dinah's story, but it also highlights the importance of her role in the DC universe as a teammate and often a team leader. Also it allows the people whose lives and heroic careers she's shaped to support her in her literal fight for the top billing as a solo act as she strives to become DC's Best of the Best.

As a Black Canary fan, the way the I'm always deeply confused and a bit impressed at how they looked at the already stupidly complicated Black Canary lore from the comics and decided to make it MORE confusing. Like??? There are FOUR of them (arguably more cause it's that confusing). And none of them can be called comic accurate. Sarah gets close in the Black Canary persona but even then... They certainly get aspects right. A father being a cop. Dinah Drake wanting to be a cop (though she never becomes one and is almost never the one with the sonic scream). But never do we get the Sherwood Florist. It's just... So wild to me the way they approached it all. Very annoying that it's the biggest live action adaptation... And of course the Birds of Prey adaptation? Only somewhat better and includes one of my least favorite retcons of Dinah being a singer sooo... We're definitely not winning in the Black Canary department.

Look, I don't want to be mean and message the person directly, but someone commented on the Bruce-Oliver twitter post that it was OOC for Oliver because 'Oliver Queen would be happy to be a billionaire because he's everything Bruce haters think Bruce is' and, like, tell me you've never read a Green Arrow comic without telling me you've never read a Green Arrow comic.

Sad unfair facts about Stephanie Brown
She deserves justice!
The first people that supported her as Vigilante weren't from the Batfamily, in fact they were from the Arrowfamily: Green Arrow junior and Black Canary.
Following that fact, she didn't get to keep them as friend and mentor since only Tim and later Damian got to be friends with Conner Hawke and only Babs and Cassandra kept a friendly relationship with Dinah but currently they never mentioned Stephanie again.
Another mentions of characters that she never got to hang out again because they never separate her from Tims and the Batgirls are: Huntress (Bertineli), they have polar opposite personalities but they got along and respected and supported each other and Supergirl, Steph and Kara became besties and had the best relationship in her run as Batgirl in my opinion but after that comic they never interact again and with huntress only interacts 2 times... They never let Steph have more friends than Cassandra.
Steph and Jason are the failure death Robins, were raised in the narrows, had drug addict mothers and criminal fathers... Steph actions reminding Batman about Jason being part of the reasons he fired her... And in Jason's return they wasted the opportunity of making Jason rub her death on Batman's face. Not to mention they still have to have "the talk" About their time as Robin's and no, that comic of the five Robins fighting against the "zero robin" DOESN'T COUNT, we deserve to see a proper emotional moment between this two sharing their common pain but we still don't get it.
Steph and Dick are the only batfamily members that had been described as "sunshines" and very perky chatters, despite that we never got to see proper interactions with them, Steph isn't biological or legally related with Dick but she has the best little sister material and together they have the potential to annoy the hell out of grumpy characters, yet the first time they properly interacted when she was Batgirl Dick was a jerk and after things got better they never had a moment together.
In the only comic were Steph was finally acknowledged for the first time as Damians big sister isn't a comic from the main canon and even though she became the Robin of Damian's Batman she died quickly but supposedly Talia was going to revive her... We never see them again in the comic. We never got to see the curious combination between Talia and Stephanie. We never get to see anything.
Currently in the comics (because im not counting the young Justice show) Steph never got to be in a superhero team outside the batfamily: she was well received by some Titans including Cassie who was surprised she wasn't there to join them and was in fact only there for "emotional support" For Tim, who i should remind you decided by himself that the Titans were out of Steph league 😑. She was mentored by the birds of prey out of camera but unlike Cassandra she never got the chance to officially join them, in the Robin's comic run in a simulation of what would had happened to her if she never followed Batman she became the leader of the Teen Titans only to confront Superman, lose and get the other members to never trust her again. There was an official idea that was never approved of a team that had Blue Beetle, Supergirl, Damian's robin and Steph's Batgirl and most recently another Idea of a superhero team with the flash twins, animal girl and mr terrific kid and sidekick with Steph as a leader... Was rejected too. They just WON'T give her a chance.
Harper Row took her credit once, what do i mean? In the new 52 a new young but not teen vigilante named blue bird was created and that version of Stephanie didn't want to involve herself in vigilante stuff unlike her original version, instead she was encouraged to do it that's when Harper gave her a speech about how she became one by herself without Batman having anything to do about it which is an absolute blatant lie because she became Bluebird inspired by him after he saved her and her brother. STEPHANIE BROWN is the one who became a vigilante without Batman's influence! She became Spoiler to spoil her father's evil plans, Batman just crossed paths with her, she wasn't inspired by him or was turned by him into Spoiler.
In her first interactions with Batman he didn't saw her as unskilled or incompetent for the vigilante life, he was simply worried she was doing things out of revenge and not justice and was just trying to guide her but later the writers changed this by turning her into a punching bag to receive an hypocritical exhausting amount of criticism, disapproval and contant remarks about her "lack of enough skills" and incompetence, constantly questioned and underestimated and no matter how much she trained it was never enough... It took her a run as the 3th Batgirl to stop that habit of considering her unfit for the job.
Steph never knew how much her death affected everyone and what is worse when she returned in that awfully lazy writing way the only reactions of characters seeing her alive we got to see were Batman's, Tim's, Alfred's and her mom and needless to say Batman's reaction was dry and disappointing but what is worse is that they never showed us Cassandra's reaction to seeing her alive when she was the one they showed us that suffered the most, not only one of the few characters that cried but she even hallucinated about her.
Catwoman first interaction with her was actually the sweetest and she even praised her and took a bit of her side in the gang war and really tried to help her. This sweet interaction was completely forgotten the second time they interact and the following interactions never felt the same again.
Her artistic qualities have been forgotten, the comics keep showing us how artistic is Damian or Jason's love for classic literature but they forgot that Steph was also good a drawing and a really good pianist, seriously she could have played the piano in one of those galas Bruce wayne goes, or she could draw with Damian, is it really that hard?
She had a bit of a toxic relationship with Tim in the pre reboot of the new 52 but after that they had the best relationship and for some reason that was the moment DC decided they had to brake up. Tim broke with her without a reason, ghosted her, got in a new bisexual relationship and when he finally decided to be decent and talk things out with her he introduced her to his new boyfriend without warning her or asking her if she was ok and on top of that DC made her react like a wattpad 13 years old cringe boys love fangirl and say that "this is the best they ever" because a "nice to meet you" wasn't enough and be angry and sad like a normal human being after all Tim put her through was out of the question because that would be considered homophobic on her part.
Her whole teen pregnancy arc (which im extremely grateful is not cannon anymore) wasn't to give her depth or make the character more complex and interesting no, that arc had the only tacky and cheap wroten purpose of making Tim and Steph strengthen their relationship by making Tim having to take her to birth class and be there supporting her when she had to give up the baby for adoption... All this shit for nothing, because they later tried to kill her off permanently and even after she came back they never allowed them to be fine together. Like i said? Im so glad is not cannon anymore, Steph didn't deserve to go through that.
Her trauma about her "almost death" Unlike with Jason's death and Barbara getting disabled is absolutely never addressed, as if the way she was brutally sexually tortured for days after screwing up a plan she thought would get Batman to respect her instead provoked a gang war that made her feel unbearably guilty wasn't enough to have PTSD because the one who tortured her was Black Mask and not the Joker, looks like if you aren't a joker victim your trauma doesn't count. Every one mentions the wheelchair and the crowbar but nobody ever mentions the power drill.
If you know more Sad unfair facts, write on the comments or reblog please. Our girl deserves to be more acknowledged.

Kate Kane and Bruce Wayne being siblings more than cousins pt... 5
Kate Kane: Cuzzo can you tell that Arrow weirdo to stop asking me on a date? Isn't he with Black Canary?
Bruce Wayne: I have no idea what their relationship is like and want to keep it that way... Wait he's been doing what?!
Kate: Trying to get me to go on a date with him. Sending me weird love notes shot with an arrow. Saying he'll 'rock my world' and it's like, dude I am not into you or any man. I've made it clear I'm not and he's like "I can make you straight".
Kate sighs rubbing her forehead.
Kate: I swear he makes me feel gayer.
Bruce seethes, clenching his fist.
Kate: You good, Cuzzo?
Bruce: I'm... Fine. Fine. Great, if you'll excuse me there's a person I need to meet. Be back!
Bruce runs from the table outside, into his house, grabs the keys to his first car and drives off. Alfred Pennyworth goes outside to see Kate standing there confused.
Alfred: I've seen him react like that before and was listening in on your conversation. He's going to have a serious talk with Mr. Queen about never talking to you again.
Kate (surprised): Oh seriously?
Alfred nods.
Kate, taken back but happy: Aww, that's so sweet of Bruce.
Alfred: He'd do anything for his family.

I absolutely your Robin Jason headcannons, do you have any more? Maybe some Red Hood ones as well?
!!! im so happy to be getting these asks this is so fun
More Jaybin hcs (part one here):
He has a bunch of 1960s style clothes because Rena likes dressing like a mix of Amy Winehouse and Twiggy
baby goth in the making thanks to Natalia. she gives him a collection of Edgar Allen Poe's poems and he's just hook, line, and sinker into the subculture
He usually listens to metal bands but his guilty pleasure music is slow ballads and gayboy pop (think Kevin Atwater and Troye Sivan)
His favorite rogue to fight is KGBeast because of sentimentality, since KGB is the first rogue he ever defeated as Robin
He has pimples on his thighs and neck but somehow never on his face
He hates having his nails painted because of sensory issues, but lets Rena paint them anyway
His favorite of Dick's teammates is Vic, because he let Jason watch him fix one of Kori's alien weapons once, and he's super patient and kind and answers all of Jason's questions
Red Hood hcs:
Still mostly listens to metal but his favorite band is Rainbow Kitten Surprise (his favorite song is Finalist)
He has a journal where he writes shitty, angsty poetry with a fountain pen
He can never quite resist petting dogs during patrol, so there are multiple pictures online of Mafia Boss Red Hood playing with civilian's puppies
Has a tattoo of a wilded rose on top of his batarang scar to hide it. It's corny and ugly as hell but that was kind of the point. After he starts dating Rose he tells her it's because they were destined to meet. She gags every time
full-fledged romantic goth now. I'm talking manic panic white base, big eyeliner, and fake fangs. I'm talking huge messy hair with about a ton of hairspray. I'm talking "hates that every goth clothing he can find has bats on it"
His main mug is one of those corny millennial "don't talk to me until I've had my coffee" ones that Roy got for him during the outlaws. Jason uses it ironically but Roy thinks he also finds it funny
Sometimes when he's feeling nostalgic Jason will lay down on a rooftop and try to find where Oa is up in the sky, because he and Kyle looked for constellations together during Cosmic Mistake
Contrary to popular belief, his favorite superhero isn't Wonder Woman, it's Black Canary. Which is too bad because she hates his guts
Sent Sasha to live with an ex-con he trusted in South Dakota. He still sends her gifts often but they don't talk anymore since they realized how bad he was to her mental health
Deathstroke's #5 hater. Loses only to all 3 Wilson children (minus Res), Cassandra Cain, and Oliver Queen
Really wants to meet Connor Hawke because he was actually being genuine in GA Vol3 when he told Ollie he'd always wanted to meet him, and has since really really wanted to meet all of the Arrows even though none of them like him. He's the world's worst fanboy
Will do anything Talia asks of him but spits on Ra's face if he so much as looks in Jason's direction
Calls Damian "little prince" in Arabic (Amir Le-Zghir) specifically because of the book, but ALSO because it was what Willis called him when he was a child
Duke is his favorite bat because he isn't afraid to make fun of Jason, gets into a shit ton of trouble, and swears around Bruce like it's nothing
Whew, I think that's enough for a single post. Still have a lot more though lmao

Amity Park isn't located in the United States its a town in Australia. Unfortunately the Justice League seems very American if not North American focused with a majority of their members in the main line up from the US. Flash, Zatanna, Black Canary, Batman, Green Lantern, Cyborg, Green Arrow, Captain Marvel and Superman just to name the main ones. So while they do deal with big world events they don't take notice when this town on the other side of the world keeps having issues. Years later Danny who is fed up of the Justice League not helping decides to make his own superhero team to deal with problems on his side of the globe. He finds quite a few allies that don't feel valued as a JL member so they quit to his new team. Danny has a bit of a grudge towards the JL.

Batman Prompt 3 - Bryce Wayne
Female Bruce Wayne AU :D
Bryce Wayne is a diamond beauty; no one would expect the girl to be 'The Batman'. Bryce didn't intend for people to think of her bat persona to be thought of as a man. She pressed down her chest since it could get in the way of her movement and vision at certain angles. She is also quite tall for a female, but around average for a male. Her figure is mostly hidden through the thick material, and her cape also contributes to hiding her figure. She added a voice modifier because statically a lower voice is more intimidating than a higher voice, her normal voice isn't as high as most girls but it is still high compared to a guy's voice. The voice modifier is just meant to make her voice lower, gruff, and unrecognizable.
Bryce does not deny or correct when people refer to her as 'Batman' because it adds more cover to her secret identity, but she does not refer to herself as a man since it sometimes can be important to know that she is a female rather than a male in certain circumstances, like for medical things.
Of course with the fact that everyone thinks Batman is a man, so does the Justice League think she is a man. Somehow she has not gotten hurt badly enough with the Justice League that she would need to be given medical attention at the satellite, she has gotten patched up there but she did it herself. None of the members with powers know she is a she because her uniform blocks that being detected with enhanced senses.
The Justice League finds out Batman is a girl.
Batman either gets injured so her gender is revealed or it is casually mentioned by her in some way, like maybe all the members are hanging out together and the girls are talking together about girl things-
I just want to say Batman always, when she isn't busy goes to the member hangouts so she can 'bond with her team' as Alfred said, so she usually stays quiet, but when she is talked to she will respond, and when she thinks she can add something to the conversation she will speak up. Though it took some getting used to for most of the members they have learned that when Batman isn't talking business she isn't too good a talking, so they accept her kind of awkward way of speaking to people. They don't even notice the awkwardness anymore.
-Batman casually adds her own experience as a girl and then all the members are like What?' (some members are already getting an idea) Batman is like 'What? You didn't know? I'm a girl.' and then everyone freaks or something.
*When I am referring to the Justice League I mean Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, Aquaman, Green Arrow, and Black Canary but you can add more if you want.

Oliver Queen x Male!reader dating headcanons
Tumblr media
*Rafael Silva used as fancast*
● you met Oliver at a bar one night after work, he tried to impress you by buying you the most expensive drink off the top shelf
● it worked, along with his charming personality
● and it certainly didn't hurt how handsome he was either
● so you went home with him that night
● and then the next night
● and again the next
● within weeks he was calling you his boyfriend
● but it wasn't until a year later when you just so happened to be at a bank that was being robbed and the green arrow saved the day
● you went to see Oliver that night and found him stitching up a bullet hole in his waist at the exact spot the green arrow had been shot in at the bank
● he tells you everything starting from getting stuck on Lian Yu
● oh yeah and that his best friends Dinah and Roy are also black canary and arsenal
● it takes some time to adjust to this new discovery
● Oliver gives you space but once it all settles in you're back to your old selves
● "So you're really okay with this?"
● "I fell in love with Oliver Queen and if you and the green arrow are a packaged deal than I'll just have to accept that"
● did he come home to you one day trying on his suit? Yes
● and did he find it hilarious when you got stuck trying to quickly take it off? Also yes
● he tries to teach you how to use his crossbow
● "you know this is a lot harder than it looks"
● "it takes a lot of practice, you could always go get stranded alone on an island for five years like I did"
● "no thanks I would go crazy if I didn't get to look at that pretty face of yours everyday"
● Oliver is the proudest boyfriend
● he loves to show you off when you go out
● especially to big wig business guys he's making deals with
● "this is my boyfriend Y/N, let me tell you his entire life story and how amazing he is"
● and he will take any chance he gets to celebrate your accomplishments
● you got a promotion at work and Oliver used his connections to get last minute reservations at the most exclusive restaurant in town and bought a brand new suit
● speaking of, Oliver should not have been as surprised as he was when you showed up to the restaurant in a bright green suit of your own
● "Hey its like I get to show off that my boyfriend is the green arrow without people knowing that my boyfriend is the green arrow"
● he's super romantic too, he has plans for every anniversary you could possibly think of
● and valentine's day is his favorite holiday
● it's the one day where he doesn't take advantage of his financial status to take you out on an unnecessarily extravagant date
● and instead sets up a quiet dinner at home
● he pretends that he made the intricate meal when the private chef he hired snuck out mere minutes before you arrived
● so maybe he still spent quite a bit of money on that
● and on the ridiculously expensive wine
●… and on the bouquets of roses that all over your home
● after two years you thought you had gotten used to Oliver being a superhero
● but then Dinah kicks down your door as she and Roy carries in Oliver who is bloody and beat to hell, barely conscious
● "what the hell happened!"
● Dinah "deathstroke ambushed us"
● "look at him, he should be at the hospital!"
● Roy "and tell them what? That Oliver Queen is the green arrow?"
● you're pacing around as Dinah and Roy patch him up and he finally comes back to
● "Oh my god, Ollie you're okay, I thought you were going to die," you say kissing him
● "you can't get rid of me that easy" he jokes
● "it's not funny Oliver I was really scared"
● "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you"
● Roy "I hate to say it but this kind of thing comes with the territory of dating a superhero Y/N"
● Dinah "this isn't going to be the last time something like this will happen and next time it could be worse are you going to be able to handle that?"
● "I meant it when I said that I accept you and the green arrow are a packaged deal Oliver, I love you and I'm not going anywhere"
● Oliver "I love you too Y/N"

Hey Red! Huge fan of OSP and Aurora, my question for you is what animated superhero shows would you recommend?
little bee with an incongruously elephant-themed username, you are officially my best friend
Batman: Beyond
Tumblr media
Fifty years after Batman: The Animated Series (which I also recommend, natch), Bruce Wayne has long since retired from being Batman and become a grumpy recluse until hooligan with a heart of gold Terry McGinnis steals the cowl and the fancy suit it's attached to in order to avenge his murdered father and goes on to become the Batman Of The Future, mentored by Bruce. One of the only truly episodic superhero cartoons - almost no overarching plotlines, just character arcs and the occasional villain with their own thing going on. Has a recurring rogue's gallery but also a higher villain bodycount than most superhero shows; villains of the week are not guaranteed to survive their episode, even (and especially) villains from the original Batman run. Exceptionally horrifying plotlines include "man presumed killed in industrial waste accident actually buried alive in horrifying immobilized undead purgatory and animates living humanoid masses of dirt for revenge", "all the cool kids are splicing their DNA and shockingly the dude in charge is evil about it" and "somehow the joker has returned." Also has a surprisingly good follow-up tie-in comic series (and a few less-good ones).
Justice League and Justice League: Unlimited
Tumblr media
The first couple seasons (aka just Justice League) are almost entirely two-parters, mostly character-driven, focused in on the main seven founding Justice League members. The finale reshuffles the status quo somewhat, and then Justice League: Unlimited vastly expands the cast and incorporates basically every other DC hero ever written, but somehow doesn't completely fall apart like other shows that tried to follow suit. Most episodes of JLU are self-contained singletons that focus on small subsets of the expanded League - like "Double Date," which focuses on Huntress, The Question, Green Arrow and Black Canary and is well regarded as one of the best episodes. Features seasonal overarching plotlines as well as self-contained episodes that work in isolation. The JLU episodes that focus on the original seven Leaguers are always fun, but it's also nice to see other heroes get spotlighted.
Green Lantern: The Animated Series
Tumblr media
Do you like lancers? Do you like sad bad boys? Do you like starcrossed love stories? Do you like self-loathing jerks with hearts of gold? Do you like it when Green Lantern is also there? Have I got a show for you! I firmly believe this show only exists to justify someone's OC fanfic romance between the world's angstiest bad boy and a sentient spaceship, and there are only Green Lanterns in it because there have to be. And it's worth it. Also features some deep pulls from the Green Lantern canon like Larfleeze, Mogo the living planet and Saint Walker the first Blue Lantern. Only two seasons and the art style takes some getting used to, but man it's got some high points. Extremely overarching-plot-driven with the occasional more episodic adventure.
Teen Titans
Tumblr media
One of those shows that oscillates wildly between "so lighthearted it's a little tooth-aching to watch" and "so crushingly dark it's unbelievable that this is the same show as those other episodes," just how I like it. Extremely episodic which makes it easy to skip around, which is good, because a lot of these episodes are kinda dumb. Adapts some of the most iconic plotlines of The New Teen Titans, but it's a very different adaptation of all characters involved to the point where it's hard to think of them as the same characters at all. This is not a bad thing, it's just a thing. A superhero show where it feels like everyone is legitimately friends with everyone else, with shipping relegated to the background in favor of platonic dynamics. Main villain isn't allowed to be called his supervillain name because it has "death" in it and that's a no-no, so he goes by his actual legal name instead. For some reason a big deal is made over his identity and face being hidden despite his identity in the comics being Just A Buff Old Guy and his villain name being his legal name he pays taxes under.
Static Shock
Tumblr media
Took me a criminally long time to watch this one, and I've only gotten through the first couple seasons, but it's really good. A solo hero rather than a team, Virgil's fun to watch because his powerset is limited but he's really smart with it. Turns out giving a brilliant nerd electromagnetic powers means he figures out a lot of ways to use them beyond "zapping things" or "magnetizing stuff" and it's fun to watch him figure out solutions to problems he can't just blast his way through. Also while the show had to limit some storylines to just coding and subtext (Virgil's best friend Richie is gay, but the kind of gay that's not allowed to be explicitly stated anywhere except creator interviews) the show is incredibly overt in discussions of systemic racism, police brutality, gang violence, sky-high familial expectations and how Virgil struggles to deal with all those things. Has a very brightly-colored and cartoony palette compared to other DCAU shows, making it incredibly jarring when someone hands Virgil a straight-up real gun in the first episode, which he promptly throws in the bay because he's a Certified Good Boy.
Legion of Super Heroes
Tumblr media
Criminally underrated and only two seasons long! Clark Kent, long before he becomes Superman, gets recruited by a superhero team from the 31st century to travel into the future and help them out with a supervillain problem. He sticks around for a while learning to be a better superhero and live up to the legend he'll someday inspire, including acquiring his suit from a museum dedicated to himself. Lots of fun dramatic irony as an audience is expected to know stuff about Superman that even Clark doesn't know yet, like what Kryptonite is and why his powers don't work on planets with red suns. First season is very episodic. Everyone gets timeskipped in Season 2 and when Superman comes back he's actually been Superman for a while and is a lot better at it now. Standout character through both seasons is Brainiac 5, who is typically written romantically interested in Supergirl and in this show appears to have the exact same level of affection for Superman, which implies that his type is "kryptonians who can bridal carry me" and probably confuses the hell out of the remnants of Original Brainiac buried in his sourcecode. His "true form" is a ten-foot killer robot, which means he chooses to look like a twinky blond. In season 2 he uses a holodeck to play out dramatically dying in Superman's arms, which is around the point where "subtext" becomes "text." Superman and an edgy lancer clone of Superman spend the season 2 finale helping him out in a Battle In The Center Of The Mind versus Original Evil Brainiac, a process I am convinced only takes as long as it does because Brainiac 5 has two Supermen fighting for him and he's not gonna let that opportunity slip away. Take a drink every time he uses the phrase "twelfth level intellect" and finish the glass whenever he and Superman play out a scene that would be less romantic if they kissed.
Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes
Tumblr media
On to Marvel finally! Rock solid through all of season 1, the writing gets a little shaky through season 2 - some episodes are spectacular, some are just okay, and a couple verge on full-on idiot plots. Still well worth a watch, if for no other reason than the broadly incredible character writing. This show writes Captain America so well that when he's replaced with a Skrull in season 2 the audience can tell that something is missing; Skrull-Cap acts the way Captain America acts when written by somebody who thinks he's boring, while real Cap acts like a real person who happens to be an absolute paragon of heroism. This show also writes Thor really well and respects his status as the powerhouse, and broadly all the characters are well handled and make good, smart decisions for the information they have available. This is what I consider to be the definitive version of The Avengers, and its existence is why I'm not mad at the MCU when it does my faves dirty - I know I'll always have EMH season 1!
X-Men: Evolution
Tumblr media
So, SO early 2000s! Most of the younger X-Men are de-aged so they can double up superheroics with high school drama, which means this version of Wolverine is a full-on dad and it's great. This show also invented X-23. Also if you watched basically any anime in the 90s there are a lot of familiar voices, which makes certain scenes very jarring - Light Yagami as Nightcrawler is one of the funniest bits of dissonance. Also for new God of War fans, Magneto might sound very familiar. Quality is hit-or-miss in places - the season 1 finale is kind of laughably terrible and the show mostly pretends it didn't happen - but it has some extreme high points, mostly the Wolverine-centric episodes. Almost every conflict could be resolved immediately by Nightcrawler's powers, so unfortunately he gets knocked out at the start of nearly every fight, which circles around to being very funny after a while.
Spectacular Spider-Man
Tumblr media
The best Spider-Man cartoon, I think! Very much a solo story - just Spider-Man alone vs his massive rogue's gallery, no other superheroes. Extremely quality banter and arcs - several villains have their origins during the series, many appearing in important roles before becoming proper supervillains. Very much an overarching-plot story, and unfortunately canceled before some of those arcs could be resolved, so it ends on a bit of a bummer, which is fairly standard stuff for Spider-Man, tbh. This is a good version of Peter, which is good, because we spend a lot of the show in his head; we get a nearly-constant inner monologue from him so we always know what he's thinking, so he'd better be likable.

Okay wait re: Bernard and the batfam:
What is each of the batfam’s favorite conspiracy theory that Bernard has come up with??
(Thank you btw for always answering asks and for being amazing)
Dick: Red Hood doesn't have a head, just helmets under helmets
Jason: Nightwing has butt implants
Tim: Red Robin is an android that runs on gasoline disguised as coffee

Random DC Headcanons: Roy and Lian Harper (Relationships) Part 2
Lian Harper's non-Arrow relationships as of Dawn of DC
Dick Grayson- Whenever she asks her dad about Dick, she notices the sad tone in his voice. Lian wonders what Dick did or didn't do.
Victor Stone- Lian has fond memories of him, but is sad that she doesn't get to hang out with him as much.
Gar Logan- She is sad that Gar has died, but she knows that he'll be back.
Garth- She knows that he looks different from the last time she saw him, but she chalks it up as the same reason why her dad is missing his Navajo tattoo. She misses Ceridian and wonders why hasn't he come back yet.
Wally West- She knows that it wasn't his fault that her dad died. She often talks to him and Jai and Irey about being lost in time and how things have changed. Lian and the twins play video games together whenever they come over to each others' house. She likes Wade and is planning on teaching him Black Canary's finger trick when he's a little older.
Donna Troy- She knows Donna and her dad have tried and failed to be a couple, but she admits that she still "ships" them. She and Donna reconnect over Lian's drawings.
Koriand'r- Lian loves to draw her, even though she thinks she can't really do her justice. Kory loves the drawings anyway.
Rachel Roth- Lian isn't as close to her as she is with Donna and Kory, but she likes it when she comes along and hangs out with them.
Jason Todd- Lian doesn't like Jason very much. It is mostly because she remembers him hurting Mia Dearden. She asked her dad about why he was hanging out with Jason and, judging by his tone, it is clear that he doesn't like talking about Jason.
Grant Emerson- Lian wants to see him again and see if he's okay.
Bonus relationship headcanons-
Aside from her reminding him about Jason, Roy is okay with Selina Kyle. Roy thinks Lian could have done a whole lot worse with possible mentors. FYI- his idea of the worst mentor for Lian- Deathstroke.
Roy wants to get to know Billy and Skidmark. To him, they are to Lian what the Titans were to him.

Who is...Oliver Queen | Green Arrow? - A Reading Guide
Tumblr media
Oliver Queen is a hero from DC comics that was first introduced in 1941. Ollie is a character based firmly in the folk hero genre with an unmistakable heavy-handed influence from the Robin Hood mythos. Ollie is best known for being canonically a socialist, befriending assassins and "villains", and for having his most common enemy be the police. He is the father of Roy Harper (Speedy, Arsenal, Red Arrow), Connor Hawke (Green Arrow), Mia Dearden (Speedy), Tim North, and Robert Queen II. He's the older brother of Emiko Queen (Red Arrow). And the long-time partner of Dinah Lance (Black Canary) and Hal Jordan (Green Lantern). Ollie is often at odds with other heroes, which makes his epitaph the most fitting way to sum up his character in that he always makes the right enemies.
A reading list with totally legal links is under the cut!
As always
Origins: these comics deal specifically with Ollie's experience on the island
Green Arrow: Year One Green Arrow: The Wonder Year Green Arrow: Stranded (non-canon but still an AMAZING look at the island)
Select Golden and Silver Age Stories: it is HIGHLY ENCOURAGED to read these before reading GL/GA and particularly Snowbirds Don't Fly to get full context of the Pre-Snowbirds GA/Speedy dynamic.
More Fun Comics #78, 81-82, 89, 91-92 World’s Finest Comics #7, 57, 70 Adventure Comics #121, 133, 137, 151, 155, 164, 166, 179, 184, 189, 196 Adventure Comics #233 World’s Finest Comics #88 Adventure Comics #246, 256, 260-263 Teen Titans Vol 1 #4, 11, 19-43
Green Lantern/Green Arrow: possibly the most famous stories involving Ollie, GL/GA is a quintessential must-read for the emerald archer! As stated above, PLEASE read the Golden and Silver Age issues before reading GL (1960) #85-86.
Green Lantern (1960) #76-87, 89 The Flash (1959) #217-219 Green Lantern (1960) #90-100, 102-124
Green Arrow Titles: See parenthetical notes for specific commentary on the various series
Green Arrow (1983) Green Arrow: The Longbow Hunters (this is a direct lead in to Green Arrow 1988) Green Arrow (1988) (while Chuck Dixon's run has been included for completion's sake please note that he has gone on the record saying that the hates Oliver Queen and his writing reflects this) Green Arrow (2001) (this series seriously drops in quality FAST once Judd Winick takes over and his characterization isn't even consistent with what comes before him in the 2001 series let alone in past series, Winick's GA also features significant anti-black racism) Green Arrow/Black Canary (please keep in mind that Judd Winick's characterization is still SHIT but this has been included for completion's sake) Green Arrow: Brightest Day Green Arrow (2011) #17-34
Other Titles and Storylines:
Identity Crisis Final Crisis Green Arrow 80th Anniversary 100-Page Super Spectacular
I am not including much of N52 because it is bad. And I am not including Rebirth because it should not be included in reading lists that are meant to teach you about the character, it exists to make you question if Ben Percy has read Green Arrow comics after YOU have read the comics he supposedly drew inspiration from.
