Lando Yeswins - 505, arctic monkeys

"No!" Your shriek rings out through the air of the somewhat empty room, quickly followed by both of your giggles, as Lando has launched himself into you, picking you up. The man has missed you so, so much. He didnt even think it was possible. Hed spend his free time with looking at pictures of you, wishing that he could feel that skin against his, and... smell it, really. Now, that he has finally gotten the chance...

Your back makes contact with the couch, Lando still clinging to you tightly, and just plopping on top of you. He buries his face into your chest, drawing a deep breath to take in your scent... But you smelled like... him??

"Baby... have you been living in my clothes?" He asks, amusement laced into his tone. His face was still buried right where his favourite place was, though.

Silence from your end. One awkward chuckle later, you burst into another fit of giggles, followed by the heat that rose to your cheeks. You werent so sure if it was the man making you blush, or him being a damn human radiator doing the trick. Either way, you didnt mind - the golden retriever goofball of a man was excited to close the distance between you two again. A little too excited, even.

Oscar Leclerc Piastri - teenage dream, katy perry

Him. You. Both of you. A lot of people have called you the dream team, and you have seen a lot of jealous tweets. Posts about your relationship in general - people seemed to be suckers for the childhood friends to lovers trope. So much that you could barely keep track of them anymore.

You have incorporated scrolling through the socials, and hunting for cute memes to annoy him, straight into your routine. His dms from you were filled with various kinds of those, mostly a spectrum of cat memes. Yes, a spectrum. You seemed to be unhinged enough to even ask for fun time alone through those. And, to be honest? They always worked on him. Always.

This time, it was no different - you were curled up on the couch, Oscar laying his head on your stomach, trying to nap. You could be seen scrolling, and... yep. Looking for some memes.

You find something else, though, your heart melting at the sight. You cant even hold the 'awwww' in, as much as you wanted to...

"Huh?" Oscar croaks out, rising from his slumber. All he heard was you making some sort of noise, and he instantly realized that he was about to get a phone right up his face. However... he slowly looks up and sees you... crying?

He doesnt say anything, but scoots up slightly instead, his face landing right by your neck. He looks at the little screen... Only to see a picture of two small children, both in race suits, both giggling on a makeshift podium. He quickly comes to the realisation that hes looking at both of you, at one of your first karting competitions together. And its all it takes to make a tear roll down his cheek as well. A happy tear. Hes quick to start kissing yours away, not even hesitating. Your skin tingled at the gentle contact, and you softly chuckle. Thats exactly what he wanted to achieve. A laugh out of those pretty lips of yours.

Max Verstappen - im yours sped up, isabel larosa

As tough as this man looked out there, in the face of the cameras... he turned into a whiny puddle whenever he was wrapped in your arms. Something about you made him melt each and every time, making him feel safer than ever. Is that because you usually used rather masculine fragrances and smelled like a dad that he never really had? Maybe, maybe...

He was getting his daily dose of cuddles in. This time it was more of a comfort than it has ever been - he didnt do good, and didnt even finish the race. He felt awful.

"Are you going to leave me now?" You suddenly hear a muffled voice, coming from a certain mans face, currently getting buried into your chest.

"Pardon?" You respond, a confused chuckle following the single-word sentence. He wasnt insecure... as far as you knew.

"I said what i said, Liefje... now answer." the man groans, almost making you chuckle again - he was awfully adorable at the moment.

"No, baby, im yours. For life. Have you forgotten?" your voice reminds him, as you slip one of your hands away from his waist, wiggling the fingers not too far from his eyes. He feels you pulling your hand away, the action making him look up slightly, eyebrows furrowed in confusion. That quickly melts away as he sees the engagement ring on your finger, one that he proposed to you with a few days ago.

"Right... i still havent gotten used to that. Sorry, mijn mooie vrouw." He responds, a small, tired smile slipping onto his lips, and you cant help but give him a small peck. You might be a master at making this man blush, but he had the exact same effect on you as well.

Daniel Ricciardo - Iris, the goo goo dolls

Evenings spent with him on the porch were your all time favourite, easily - especially if it included watching the sunset. In that case, you had two incredibly gorgeous views to rest your eyes upon. And he definitely knew you were staring at him, instead of the pretty orange colours dancing across the sky - he just pretended not to see.

You two were cuddling on the beach chair - your body in his lap, your back to his chest. Hes currently zoned out just a little, honestly. He has adopted the habit of adoring the pretty clouds from you, and pointing out all the interesting shapes. This time, though, you were quicker than him, and an excited 'ooohhh!' coming from your mouth lets him know exactly that.

"Look! That one looks like a honey badger!" you excitedly blurt out, trying to point at the shape with your finger. He follows, and quickly sees what you wanted to show him. The cloud, indeed, is honey badger shaped. You earn a hearty chuckle and one of his grins that you loved oh so much. Yes, those grins.

His arms tighten around your waist, his lips not being able to resist from leaving a trail of kisses on the back of your neck, eventually landing on the back of your head. And you didnt need much more from him - you knew that it was his way of thanking you. By making you feel all warm and giddy inside.

Logan Sargeant - american teenager, ethel cain

Spring has just started rolling around, leaving you to deal with your allergies. Its not like it was something new, or something serious, but it annoyed you nonetheless.

You two had a date that you were looking forward to all week, but suddenly, you felt like you couldnt live two minutes without having to blow your nose. Great. Logan noticed your mood immediately, so he had offered to watch a movie at home instead. You didnt resist much - you wanted to spend some time with your man, after all.

After cuddling up to him on the couch... You silently thanked for the ridiculous misery of your fate - feeling his body right by yours felt way better than spending time outside. Hearing him quietly breathe by you left you almost ecstatic, the warm air brushing by somewhere on your body, and as of the current case, your hair. Speaking of hair - he liked planting those little kisses to the crown of your head whenever you had your back to him. Almost just as much as looking at your backside.

These little moments reminded you just how far you two have come - it sometimes still felt like you were a pair of awkward teenagers, trying desperately to get over yourself to talk to each other. You still tease him about it, honestly - watching the popular guy at the school blush and giggle was the favourite sight of many.

"Chéri, look! Thats cute, no?" You heard Charles come into the kitchen, cooing at something on his phone. You didnt have the time to turn around and look at him, honestly. So he was forced to come up right behind you to wrap his arms around your waist, his palm softly brushing by your stomach while in the process. You couldnt help but wonder...

Yep, here it is. A gentle kiss to the corner of your jaw. You cant help but chuckle as his lips make contact with your skin, pleasure shooting down your spine almost immediately. He usually stops at one, but he seems to be in a playful mood today - because he doesnt, and continues to trace a line, almost connecting the dots on all your little moles and freckles.

"What is it?" You ask him with a chuckle, trying to distract him. However, you just dont get an answer. Just a phone getting shoved almost right into your face. The video that he wanted to show unpauses, and a scene of a cute puppy running around could be seen. Your heart instantly melts.

Charles seems to notice, because he already looks like a kid on christmas morning.

"Can we... adopt him? I even have a name!" He blurts out excitedly, making you chuckle again. You knew of his passion for dogs... so one wouldnt hurt, right?

You didnt even get to reply before he launched himself into a rant about why getting a dog right now would be a great idea. You just knew that you were going to spend like an hour, just listening to him talk. But you didnt mind - you enjoyed the sound of his voice, and watching the way he speaks with his hands whenever hes excited. It was truly an awfully adorable sight to witness every time.

Carlos Sainz - good luck, babe!, chappell roan

He had a small ritual of hugging you before his races - he fully, firmly, and truly believed that hes not going to achieve any good results if he doesnt. And, look - it was true, so far. The win in Singapore? In his head, it was all because you initiated a hug that day. His arms had lingered on you for a little longer than they should have been for you two being just friends, but its not like you two minded, at all. You actually craved him and his touch. You craved to feel those hands around you, and to hear his voice murmuring something into your ear. You wanted, no, needed to feel the scent and the warmth of him being so close.

So you never really protested against his idea. In all honesty, it was the most desperate move that someone has ever tried to hit on you with. The most adorable one as well.

If you thought that you were going crazy from him invading every single nook and cranny of your mind... You should have taken a look into his. You and him both knew of the rumours floating around the internet, and all the fans almost straight up telling you two to just make out already. And that has almost happened, and multiple times - one of you always ended up awkwardly pulling away, though. Having him as a friend felt good, but you were sure that having him as a lover would feel like heaven.

Lewis Hamilton - older, isabel larosa

"Thank you, love." His voice floats through the air of his drivers room, effortlessly reaching your ears, making you blush. Just a little. You had passed him his water bottle - his hands were far too busy with your hips, caressing and squeezing them with great care. His legs were spread a little, you positioned in between them. Yet, it still didnt seem like it was close enough for him - he kept trying to pull you closer, almost desperately tugging on the material of your jeans. A hand of his was now occupied with the water bottle, so he finds that as an opportunity to wrap the other around you fully, bringing you closer, once again. You almost fall over, but you catch yourself with a hand on the wall right besides his head. Helping Lewis train sometimes did help, huh?

"Hey there, easy! I couldve fallen right on top of you!" You had mentioned out loud in mock annoyance, trying hard to keep a chuckle at bay. It was hard to do so, though, because you could see a grin appearing on his lips. No, onto his whole face - the entirety of it would light up whenever he smiled or laughed, melting your heart each and every time.

"Do you prefer to be under me then?" He murmurs as a tease, leaning in to give you a chaste kiss on your neck. He knew that it was one of your ticklish spots - so he had adopted the habit of placing the gentlest kisses of them all right there. They never failed to make you feel flustered and giggly, making sure to spread a blush all over your face. Lewis was just secretly happy that you never seemed to notice his own blush, just like right now.

Sebastian Vettel - too sweet, hozier

You were sat at your desk in your home office, working late. Again. All sorts of papers were scattered all around you, a pretty decent amount crumpled up and thrown aside as well. At first, youd aim for the trashcan, getting all giddy whenever youd make a shot. But the more time passed, the more you didnt care. You found yourself thinking of the fact that your husband wouldnt be really pleased at your current decision, and you being grateful that hes currently away for a few days. And you just happily continue focusing on your work.

You had focused a little too much, perhaps. Because you didnt hear Sebastian returning home, didnt notice him opening your office door either. You only did that when he spoke up, startling you a decent amount.

"Brought you coffee, schatz." He said, quietly walking to appear by your side, placing the mug down. You smiled at him in appreciation, tilting your head up to look at him. Right as you do so, you get surprised with a forehead kiss. You cant fight the smile that wanted to appear onto your lips, going back to your work. You fully expect Sebastian to protest, to go ahead and try to pull you away from the work. But what does he do instead? He lets his hands meet with your tense shoulders, and gets to gently massaging them, slowly kneading out the knots. No words said. A quiet hum escapes your throat. You two didnt need any words to communicate, really. He understood you on a deeper level, just like you understood him. Isnt it sweet?

Jenson Button - one of the girls, the weeknd

"Twirl around again?" Jenson requests, making a spinning motion in the air with two of his fingers. You had decided to make him watch your fashion show after the shopping spree of today, just like you usually did. Every time. You thought hed be a little annoyed at you for forcing him to sit down on the couch, basically pushing him backwards right onto it. It was far, far from it - hed even encourage you to go shopping sometimes. 'Honey, its our anniversary next Saturday. Dont you want a new dress?', 'Go get something new, we're going out tomorrow', and 'i think you need to refresh your wardrobe' were phrases that you heard pretty often. And not for the reasons youd think - this man just truly and genuinely enjoyed seeing you smile, and the enthusiasm that would possess your whole being when it came to showing him. You liked to call him a simp, but in his books, that was just being reasonable.

You gladly fulfill his request with a giggle, spinning around to let the skirt of the dress flow around. This one had a great score on both of the 'spinny' and 'shiny' scales, which he learned from you pretty fast. However, he sees you suddenly stop. The surprise on his face is almost as big as yours. However, you quickly gasp and start giggling again, shoving your hands into... some pockets?

"It has pockets!" You excitedly blurt out, turning both of the pockets inside out to show him. That earns a chuckle out of him. You play around with the pockets some more, and start spinning again. As much as Jenson adored your silliness, sometimes. Hed worry about you bumping into things... and it would happen pretty often. But he was always there to baby you, placing gentle kisses around the spot you had just hurt yourself.

Here's my stream of consciousness I promised🙃

I couldn't make it short, so I'm writing looonggg.

To avoid confusion, I do not abbreviate names.

I don’t know how accurately and in detail I can describe my theory, but I’ll try. English not my native language. I'll start with the main thing - Connor is a classic case of a monogamous man. Unfortunately, it is T who is “the love of his life.” And, although Connor says in his blog"Letting go" that he “buried” it all, he is being disingenuous).

In 2018, during a discussion on gg(gurugossiper), someone wrote: Unfortunately, once Troye and Jacob break up Connor will immediately try to get Troye back".... But, as we see, this obviously did not happen then, in 2020.

I believe what Connor said on the podcast with Shannon: they didn't communicate or talk in any way for years and years.

Then, in December 2019, Connor tweeted: "Still hurts, but no longer broken". Apparently he just found out that t and j broke up.

One would think that Connor had overcome his pain and the crisis had passed.

But "House fires" is coming out in 2021.

On the pages of which Connor, as he himself says, "spilled all his blood".

In one of the interview Connor said, that he is "wasn't in love for six years".

I agree that Connor would like to have Troye back in 2019-20, return at least as a friend.

I'm sure this poem in NTS: “a lover once, a friend forever” is not an empty phrase for Connor. Not then, not now - never. Why then, after the separation of t and j, does he not make an attempt to bring Troye back into his life? I think this is a public slap from Troye: songs The Good Side and Plum.

I think the trauma from this still hasn't gone away, and "song in Target" which Connor is talking about with Shannon - it's TGS. The reference to it is also heard in the HF trailer: "trying to hard to be a bad guy sprint away from MY GOOD SIDE".

Connor was deeply wounded again by Troye, and this wound gave rise to that new round of torment that we see in HF.

He then writes about love, “ready to do anything just to breathe his head"💞, then almost curses the day Troye was born: "you lied to me again and again", "false hope is cruel", "unhealthy relationship".☠..It moving in a circle ...

Now a little about chapter 14.

Lord, this is just a monogamous truth! He did not abandon them only because he discovered their imperfections (although that too). Just Connor, who has known unconditional, elemental love, he is not someone who knows how to love rationally, out of his head. He felt the difference too well.

As an honest man, he ended it because he knew that he would not give anyone anything similar.

In short, he abandoned them because they were not Troye.🤷‍♀️

Not Troye, feelings for whom in Connor's head and heart  had a huge spectrum and were more than alive. And Connor's boyfriends, for their part, also saw this in him: there is someone who is absolute for him. Connor has a standard, ideal image of love, which is difficult to fight.

Still, I loudly applaud Connor's tenacity for the fact that he is trying to change this reality. I'm rooting for him like a football fan in the stands💪

Connor write: "I need someone new who will love me the same way I once loved you".

He craves unconditional, blind love. Perhaps those guys weren't capable of it🤔

I hope, !I hope!! this new guy H is capable of that kind of love.

Connor needs to be warmed up with absolute love, accepting him whole with its heavy trail from the past like this. Such a person will have a shining chance to live a long, happy life with C, because he was created to be a husband, created for marriage.

I wish H not to give up!

Now again about something unpleasant, that is, about TGS.

Troye did a Jesuitical thing by releasing this song (and Plum). And in many interview he kept throwing punches.

For starters, why did he write it?

As a response to NTS? Yes. But also he was mad that J was hated after nts.

T wanted to teach the fandom a lesson, but the main blow fell on Connor.

Silly fans in the end praised "a letter of apology", were touched by Troye's tears, forgetting that Sivan is a good actor😏.

TGS actually had nothing to do with the apology but was something the opposite. Mockery and petty revenge. Hiding behind a pleasant melody and the words "apologize,sympathize", song exist as pure poison.

Troye calculated everything exactly, deceived the audience, and poured fresh poison on Connor's old wound. I watched Genius for a long time, and recently I rewatched it. And I didn’t just ask if Connor communicated with Leland and Allie after the release of tgs.

What Troye does: at the very beginning of the review he says: "my friends and long-term co-authors L and A, we wrote that song"...Why is he saying this, assuming he's talking to Connor? Because this is not said to Connor. I think by that time C knew who the authors were.

T tells this to the fans who knew that L and C were communicating and continued to be friends. He covers up his vile act with L's complicity in it. And at the same time trying to undermine C’s trust in friends, many of whom rallied around C after T and C breakup.

On the podcast with Shannon C says he lost faith in a lot of his friends back then. I think it was after tgs that he stopped communicating with L and others(

He also says there that he “doesn’t want to make himself a victim, clearly reproaching C for making himself a victim.

I just want to kill him for the line about the "rings".😡 Like per line: "the world sang along to it falling apart". Considering that on tour he also pointed his finger at J, performing "for him."🤬

And timing. On Genius T says that BN already contained breakup songs. But BN came out on December 3, 2015. C's the entire X feed  is in album support posts. NEW Year holyday 2015-16 - C with Troye and his family in Australia,...And he doesn't look abandoned)))

11 february ⏩2019 - instagram T, 3rd anniversary of T&J. In fact, I think the segment is even smaller. It was C's tweet or tmblr post 4 february, like "everything is bad"((

WEEK! Just a week, which Troye in tgs tries to present as a loooooong period. TGS full of lie.

It's not surprising that Troye abstracts himself from that period and from BN.

But i think final piunt put OUT interview. End of March 2016. After this, Connor writes: “you made me feel like I don’t understand what".

I've been talking about tgs for so long because I think  that the entire HF book grew out of this wound. If tgs hadn't happened, Connor would have reconciled with Troye immediately after T and J broke up.

But i think  - all story with tgs weakened T as a person, and made Connor stronger. Troye is very vulnerable because of this ugly situation.

Do you know that they are (t's pr) cleaning up his past on social networks? They  deleted a lot of old videos from the time of Troye - YouTuber, a lot of tweets from the time of BN. I went to gg yesterday - his thread was deleted, at least I didn’t find it. Connor's branch is in place))

So funny really))) So much effort and then 💫Connor with this podcast with Brooks💫. Like a jack-in-the-box) And now how to make the people forget and unsee everything?))

On gg tgs were disassembled into atoms.

I liked how someone said: "I can't wait to see what happens to T when will he and J break up?" It was so easy to lecture Connor arrogantly and condescendingly.Like, “move on.” And Troye himself? For the fifth year now he has been howling from the stage)))

And with this so-called "choreography" on this tour.

Of course he aimed at Jacob with these p*rno-effects. And he definitely hit Connor. I'm really sorry that he sees this. Sometimes Troye seems hopelessly stupid to me. Jacob hasn't given a damn for a long time( and I think he always has).

No matter how hard I looked, I couldn’t see even 10% of that feeling onJ's face (which Connor's face was reduced to).

I think what's happening now is the delayed release of tgs: Connor has dealt with the pain and wants to bring Troye back to his reality. I'm not saying he's stalking Troye, but he definitely doesn’t want to be erased from T's memory and life.

What did Connor see in Troye's eyes when they met in 2022? What could they “talk about for a long time”? I pray to God that Troye apologizes for tgs. And I'm sure Connor has made it clear that he's willing to listen to Troye forever.

Connor never separated himself from Troye, and stopped fighting it. You don't have to be a great physiognomist to see how his face lights up when he talks about Troye.

On the other hand, what did Troyе see in Connor's eyes?

Himself, as if in a distorting mirror? LOVE that can't be killed by anything, and T was scared?

I don't understand Troye's behavior. And his management.

Connor is already here, appeared. You can't push him back into oblivion. Their old strategy is lost.

On Twitter, many are upset with Troye for not having BN in the setlist. This situation is not normal; the album is the best and most beloved by fans.

Sometimes I wonder if Connor asked Troye not to sing about him? BN = Franta in the minds of the people.

Soo when Troye WILL sings BN - then the process of returning Connor to reality Troye has moved forward.

And also (hypothetically)😅: if Troye suddenly falls on his head 🤕🥴and suddenly realizes that Connor is the best thing that could happen to him and will begin to actively seek and return Connor...then Connor, of course, will resist, but... not much🙃🥰

But Troye doesn't realize it because he's a fool. So we can sleep peacefully😅

Wow, I don't think I've ever received such a long ask. It’s amazing how you were able to articulate your thoughts in such detail. Thank you for taking the time to do that. While I don’t agree with everything you said, that’s okay. We don’t always have to agree on everything, and like you mentioned, these are your theories and assumptions. Who am I to tell you what to believe?

However, I’d like to share my opinion on the idea of "T being the love of his life." I just can’t agree with that. I don’t believe in the notion of someone being "the love of your life." If they really were, they’d still be in your life. The love of your life wouldn’t hurt you to the point where you lose all trust in finding love again. I think sometimes people tend to glorify a person after the fact, focusing on the good memories while overlooking the pain they caused. This applies to both Connor and T. If either of them ever thought they’d found the "love of their life" but then lost it, I believe they're just wrong to even think that.

I also don’t think Connor is trying to get back with T. I’m not sure why T isn't performing any songs from BN, but maybe those songs just don’t fit his current vibe anymore. I doubt Connor had any influence over that decision, and I don’t believe he has the power to dictate what T can or can’t perform, especially when it comes to T’s management.

To be honest, I’ve never cared much about T or his ex. I don’t even follow what they’re doing in life. I only have some idea about T because of the information I get from these asks. As for T trying to get back with his ex or whatever, I really don’t care. From the bottom of my heart, I just hope Connor never associates himself with T, their relationship, or their circle of friends and family ever again.

Next time, please continue to use abbreviations because, at this point, we all know who we're talking about. I decided to post this ask because it was so thoughtful, I didn’t want to let it go unshared. Thanks again for your insights. I watched The Mandalorian (specifically Boba's episodes in season 2) and TBOBF a concerning amount of times, and scoured Tumblr/AO3 for fics of our fav green tin can man. Got comfy with the character, figured out what drives him, what his motivations are, what his worldview and outlook are like. Essentially, my process boiled down to the following:

Now obviously everyone will have their own interpretations of a character, but to me, much of Boba's outlook and personality are defined by the death of his father. He is an intelligent boy raised with love by one of the galaxy's best bounty hunters, who teaches him not only about survival but also honor, respect, and personal responsibility. Jango was far from perfect (as we all are) but he did genuinely love his son and didn't hide that from Boba.

Besides the obvious trauma of seeing his father beheaded in front of him, Boba experienced a lifetime of further trauma that would have easily made him go back on what his father instilled in him. He was angry and he was alone during this time, his motivations being centered in anger and inexorable control (as seen in his drive to keep his reputation as a hunter stellar). To him, others were a liability, caring about anyone would only lead to pain. Boba burned bright and hot, but ultimately this path was not sustainable.

After the sarlacc and his time with the Tuskens, Boba was able to grow past the shadow of his father's death--there were different ways to honor his father than just being the best. He could heal himself, lead with respect and principles that harken back to his grandfather's code (whether he knows that or not), live a life that didn't have to end on some pointless job for the galaxy's scum. Boba relearned the importance of clan, that one cannot face this existence alone. Daimyo Boba now burns strong and even, fed by hearty logs rather than dry kindling.

I almost feel bad for some of the Kaustin shippers. So many have done face reveals and/or use their real names/provide other identifying information about themselves.

Like, most are young and in Kaia’s peer group or younger. I was wise beyond my years when I was that age but boy did I get more polished with age. I’m beyond glad there is no internet footprints of most of my thoughts and opinions from that age! I’d say they should know better, but they don’t have the perspective to how much their thoughts on relationships will change as they experience more relationships and witness how other people’s relationships fall apart. It’s the curse of being young: you think you know more than you do. They don’t know that how you feel in your early twenties will not necessarily hold up the rest of your life. That said, I low key feel Mollie should know better. She’s in freakin’ law school and is essentially studying and analyzing consequences at the end of the day. Like…does she think law firms or clients can’t one day come across her blog, tweets, photos (whether they’re still live when she officially enters that profession or on something like screenshots or the way back machine that someone will track down her footprint…which will be fine bc she’s literally teaching her followers how to better stalk Austin via the way back machine 🙄🙄🙄🙄) will find her literal stalking and investing sooooo much time into a relationship between people she’ll never meet cute or professional or even remotely okay? Like how is she not scared that this could be a huge embarrassment and liability to be such a rabid fan who follows several people’s every move? It’s a terrible look professionally.

Like I said, I kinda feel bad bc you don’t know what you don’t know. But they also write fan fiction as they go based on tips of icebergs (largely out of context) and are thinking it’s cool to leave their identifiable information out there. I don’t think I would have done that even at 22 so I cannot wrap my head around it. Sorry- just wanted to vent about this.

Related: I hate it when they say we’re infantilizing Kaia or any young women when we point out age differences aren’t cool. No, we’re 🚨warning🚨 them based on what we’ve learned. Not every older dude is a predator- I don’t think Austin is “ preying” on Kaia. But you hit a few nails on the head some posts back talking about him being a bit lost when he met Kaia. He had just finished some intense projects and was still likely finding himself post his relationship with Vanessa. Yes, it had been 2ish years but a) it was a long ass relationship, b) he wasn’t even living in LA the entire time between relationships and didn’t go home/see his family and c) throw in a global pandemic in there so those 2 years were weird AF. I’m personally of the belief that if an older man is with a younger girl something is a bit off, even if it’s neutral (read: not a bad guy or a predator) but is in a weird place or hasn’t grown into their adult life yet and just has a bit more work to do. I personally think he should have stayed single a bit longer to grow into his adult self. I don’t judge him for going for a younger woman and I semi get it, as I also believe we mentally/emotionally revert back to the relative age we were when a relationship began (post break up). He was so young when he and V got together and was in a serious relationship in his twenties. Of course he’s going to relate to younger people for a hot moment (and that’s not taking away his intelligence or maturity in other ways…this can happen to the best of us). But yeah, he should stayed single and someone should teach Kaia that older men who wanna date young women probably aren’t the best idea for a spectrum of reasons. It’s not infantilizing- it’s a warning, it’s concern, and it’s about being literate about human psychology and behaviors regarding patterns and societal standards that we need to rethink.

Sorry this was longer than I intended. I guess I’ve been wanting to say all of this for some time so it was bottled up. Hope it didn’t come across as a hater- I don’t hate Austin (I’m side eyeing and running out of patience the longer this goes on bc I believe him to be smarter than this, but I still don’t think he’s a bad dude.) Hello anon! I just wanted to have some dinner and craft a response for you, because damn this was so well put together that it deserves a little more depth of analysis from me. So thank you for taking your time to write in your thoughts.

Off the top, I do agree that the younger generation is way too lax with how they throw around their identifying information out there on social media. A lot of them just aren't aware that whatever you post online leaves a footprint, and even if you try to delete it or conceal it, it will always be there. So even if they think they're being cocky by revealing their faces and leaving their names and where they live and such out there without a care, welp that is gonna come back around and haunt them later. Us millennials (i assume you're a fellow millennial, or Gen X at most lol) know the dangers of the internet as we grew up with the beginnings of social media. I would think twice if i were these kids uploading their faces and other shit to twitter/tumblr. Employers can find all of this even when the shippers don't think they can.

I think when we were these shippers ages we all said some pretty cringe shit online. Here's hope that as these kids grow up they realize the damage they can do by how their words and actions can affect others. And I will also just say here that just because someone goes to college for higher learning doesn't mean they are smarter than anyone else. Book smarts don't equal street smarts. and in this world I highly value being street smart and internet smart over book smart. And i think we all know that not every profession is well suited to everyone that signs up for that career field. Passing the bar is insanely difficult and even then, do you know how many half assed shitty lawyers there are out there roaming these streets? Crazy.

The stalking in this fandom is horrific, and if she really is dishing out details on how to stalk Austin's past social medias to obtain information, then they are certified crazy. It's giving straight jacket. It's giving delusional stalker. And to answer your question of how they can overlook what they say online...arrogance and ego, simply put. You think you're untouchable until one day you're not.

This point you bring up here about Austin and Kaia, dude, amazing. This needed to be said. You are so correct. Of course Austin is not a predator. Only fucking idiots would say that shit and compare him to Leo. This man clearly went through the ringer, and his choice in dating partner only reflects the mental state he was in (and might still be lingering in) at that time. He had a full fledged identity crisis meanwhile he flew to London straight after being released from the Hospital in Australia and filmed MOTA, then a few short months later he met Kaia under questionable circumstances. At kaia's age, being with a man much older than her might have given the impression to others that she was so wise beyond her years, but she's a damn child. She shows her age all the time when she takes pictures with her young friends, go to these embarrassing parties that involve BDSM or sex or fanfiction readings in her "perverted bookclub". That is all stuff a 22 year old and younger would probably be found doing. That is not something a functioning adult who's doing okay would engage in. Plus, by her own admission she has been around men much older than he all her life thanks to Cindy pushing her to model since she was so young. So she is fucked up from that, and dating older men is what she is used to. She thinks it's normal. But in reality, it's not. And it's the fact that these shippers who are her age DON'T have a problem with it, but those of us who are close to Austin's age have a MASSIVE problem with it.

You're telling me that if theses shippers were to see a regular 32 year old man holding hands with a 22 year old out and about in the grocery store or whatever that they'd be cool with it? When trump was president and for a while after I saw a lot of use of "Sad." As a punchline at the end of tweets or posts etc by people all over the political spectrum. It really grated on me because nothing about that man's unique communication style was ever funny to me for even a second. I don't miss it.

I ran across a tweet asking if there’s any Chinese actors who can compare visually to a specific Korean actor and it did kind of strike a nerve with me.

But that wasn’t even that big of a deal. Some people like Korean actors and some people like Chinese actors. You can share some pretty Chinese actors and see what others say, whatever.

Ignoring the political tensions OP may have been stoking—as in, I’m of Chinese descent and I always hate seeing any Korea vs China posts crop up; besides being more popular than China anyway, I just have bad experiences in the past with nationalists spiralling this kind of thing out of control and making me sad to realize that quite a number of Korean people actually really hate/look down on China. So ignoring all that, who cares, right?

Except I found some care being piqued when I saw a qrt pretty rudely claiming Chinese actors are so weak they can’t lift their female partners and that they also can’t sing or act—and if OP could have, I’m sure they’d claim they can’t dance either.

Like hello??? We’re really pretending a country of 1.7 billion people isn’t going to have some skilled or strong people in acting??? Hell, some of these so-called “can’t sing/act” Chinese actors have actually found success in Korea for doing the thing that person thinks they can’t (eg Wang Yibo, literally). So is this apparent Korean entertainment fan just going to ignore that fact about the Korean entertainment industry???

Even all of that is technically whatever, but what rubbed me the wrong way was that they sounded so petty and weird about it too???? It’s one thing to say, “I don’t think Chinese actors are that impressive because they’re not very strong or skilled at their craft”—that’s still a bizarre claim to make even as an opinion (because it’s written as a broad, generalizing, sweeping statement instead), but it nevertheless sounds a lot less asshole-ish than whatever the hell their actual tweet is:

I also found some fun facts about actors; some of which I knew, and some of which I didn’t: Song Weilong knows martial arts, Luo Yunxi knows ballet, Li Xian dives, Wallace Chung plays sports (volleyball, tennis, baseball), Huang Jingyu does Brazilian jiu jitsu…

Like those are all skills that just so happen to require strength.

And even skinny people can be strong (Luo Yunxi can be easily labelled thin, but he’s not without muscle. Like ballet isn’t an easy sport at all).

Then we have the opposite side of the spectrum with the fact that China has a whole martial arts movie industry. Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Donnie Yen… Whether you think their strength is practical or not, martial arts still takes a form of strength.

Plus you know how Asia is about “men needing to be manly.” Even with the flower boy trend in both China and Korea, there’s still an emphasis on some traditional gender roles, and quite a number of Chinese men do work out.

There’s just so many different forms of strength.

My younger brother works out and he can physically pick me up (he actually did it today to force me to get out of bed lol), but he’s often lamented being skinny, so the muscle doesn’t show—or take form—as easily. In fact, both my brothers are their own forms of gym bros so I know a bit about physical strength, and there’s obviously the fact there are many different kinds of strength.

A man who works out regularly and has visible muscles can likely pick up a woman, but that doesn’t mean he’ll necessarily be great in a fight or at a certain sport (eg my brother is good at working out, can lift heavy things to be fixed or carried, is technically alright at basketball, but cannot really do long-distance running).

My older brother then looks bigger than my younger brother but he can’t easily beat him in an arm wrestling match. My dad isn’t that muscular but he can also hold his own in an arm wrestling match against my brothers.

It’s almost as if different bodies and different types of strength exist! The exact same way that beauty is in the eye of the beholder!!

Back to the flower boys thing—with there being a trend in China where people prefer more “delicate” men (remember when Simu Liu got cast as Shang-Chi and a number of articles came out about some Chinese netizens not finding him all that attractive?), then of course Chinese actors may not be as bulked out as some western ones. But that’s also whatever—it’s a cultural difference.

As I already described, there are Chinese actors with muscles, or who work out, or who are strong in other/not immediately obvious ways, or who can carry actresses…

But whether they can or can’t, including whether they’re muscular or thin, I don’t think it matters. In fact, if anything, I’m glad that despite the government’s efforts to “ban” flower men, the blur between masculine and feminine—at least when we follow the western standards—still exists in China.

And I emphasize that even more since China and Korea can buy into beliefs about gender that imo are too traditional. So I am glad that even if Chinese men are “smaller” than Korean men—or at least the actors are (in that person’s eyes), they’re defying gender expectations somewhat. Especially what with Korea fervently continuously getting the spotlight for misogyny in the workplace or by fans/incels (eg recently with Arknights’ more independent Korean division despite Arknights coming across as rather feminist, the whole ordeal with Furina’s designer, the whole 🤏 controversy, actual sexual scandal cases…).

And well oops that went into another tangent.

Technically it’s not that serious, but it is also a slippery slope. And anyway, the tweet in general was just baffling enough it made me want to respond lol.

i’m not demisexual/demiromantic but nothing describes the amount of RAGE i feel when i see people arguing about its validity online. no, not wanting one night stands isn’t a sexual orientation BECAUSE THAT’S NOT WHAT IT MEANS. demi people physically do not experience sexual and/or romantic attraction to people unless/until they have an emotional connection. just as how asexual people can have sex without experiencing much or any sexual attraction, demisexual people can have one night stands or casual flings without experiencing much or any sexual attraction as well.

idk i used to be someone who didn’t ‘get’ microlabels but then i started questioning whether I was on aroace spectrum and found that yes, putting a label on every single part of your identity can actually be helpful in figuring things out and feeling understood. and it doesn’t matter how ‘small’ a label is — if it means a lot to you it means a lot to you and no one should be able to take that away. obviously microlabels (or labels at all) don’t work for everyone and that’s completely valid as well!! i just wish people would stop making fun of the people who do find comfort in those sorts of terms.

Director's cut for Autobiography of Kristin Clancy OR a Voyager of your choice (of the 72 of them!!?!)

Whoa. I’ve written 72 Voyager fics? That’s … wow.

I so much appreciate this opportunity, @nab999, and I think I’ll talk about my girl, Admiral Kirsten “Sheer Fucking Hubris” Clancy. 💪 ❤️

Some quick facts:

After key aspects of The Autobiography of Kirsten Clancy burst into my mind like the Kool-Aid Man through a wall, I sat on the ideas for more than a year because I didn’t want to put in the time and effort the story would require.

Writing an entire-ass autobiography (not even a memoir) for a character who has, generously speaking, three scenes, is a bit much, even for me.

After I wrote this story that I hadn’t wanted to write, I wrote maybe a dozen ficlets spread across five other AO3 stories, plus a multi-chap (Kirsten Clancy/Katrina Cornwell) set in the same universe.

I am so damn glad I wrote this fic.

Writing this story changed me — for the better. The tight, self-aware point of view was a delicious challenge. Tracing the arc of most of a lifetime was an exercise in patience, even though parts of the story flowed as if the protagonist was whispering in my ear. And what a protagonist! Kirsten Clancy is flawed, foul-mouthed, and absolutely ferocious in her love and protection. She helped hold together the Federation that Jean-Luc Picard could have squandered in his dangerous optimism that led to the attack on Mars. She’s right, except when she’s not. And when she’s wrong, she sometimes she pays mightily for it.

Things I took special pleasure in:

A large, loving family (of origin and of her own creation) because those are under-represented in Trek.

A Starfleet that is not just accommodating but in fact truly helpful when it comes to marriage, family, mental health crashes (sometimes), mentorship, and other needs.

Expanding other minor characters like Sonya Gomez and Edward Jellico. The canon-nameless captain of the Melbourne who dies in Wolf 359 was critical for this story and I love her to this day.

Worldbuilding Mars, a planet we know relatively little about in Trek as opposed to Vulcan or planets in the Bajoran system. I used most of the little canon we have, then built from there.

The flaws in Clancy’s parents. I wrote them as American-style “patriots” who are baffled by their daughter but love her and work very, very hard to open their own minds to understand her and help her reach her goals.

The first original character that occurred to me for this story was Great Aunt Vivienne.

The first image that occurred to me for this story was Kirsten Clancy beaming home after the attack on Mars and crumpling into a loved one’s arms.

The last idea for this story as I outlined was the chapter with the Breen. I actually had two versions of the story for a while, one with the Breen and one without. I’m glad I kept that in.

A part that was painfully rewarding to write was Starfleet Command’s response during the attack on Mars. I modeled that after accounts I’ve read about US airline command center responses during 9/11. One of my “favorite” parts is the admirals arriving from their First Contact Day parties unprepared, out of uniform, running, running, running, Nechayev with her high heels dangling from her finger as she runs barefoot.

Oh, and on the other end of the funny-serious spectrum, Roux, the pilot of the first ship Clancy commands, the Barrie? He’s serial-numbers-barely-filed-off Gordon Malloy from The Orville. Because I can.

This is going to be a bit of a rant.

There's a lot of friction in the current Discourse(tm) between two sorts of media enjoyers: The people who want media that's more comfortable, and the people who see virtue in media that upsets and challenges. I'm generalizing for the sake of this post, but I do think it more or less summarizes the arguments I've seen on both sides.

Part of what bothers me about taking one of these sides or the other is that it assumes a kind of false dichotomy. A piece of media is either family friendly, for kids, comfortable, twee, or whatever other label you want to apply to say it's generally not upsetting to the experiencer; or the work is gritty, "realistic," honest, raw, uncomfortable, challenging, etc.

To me, this kind of dichotomy is unhelpful, and leads to arguments that actually stifle creativity rather than promote it. Most recently I saw a tweet of a gamedev who said she liked Disco Elysium's branching story mechanics, but wasn't a fan of it being a gritty detective story. She then suggested what if you took those mechanics and applied them to a lighter setting, like a witch in a small town solving a low-stakes mystery. From responses I saw on this site, people seemed to HATE the idea that someone could want a story with the narrative depth and choice of Disco Elysium without the same complicated subject matter as DE. One comment said "Imagine if Disco Elysium was about nothing."

I find this idea, that a story with low stakes is "about nothing," to be really annoying. Low stakes stories can in many ways be far more human, able to focus deeply on characters and who they are and how they grow. One of my favorite movies is From Up On Poppy Hill, all in all a pretty low stakes romance story, but I love it for the ways it's able to explore its characters and their choices. I also love Princess Mononoke, a story with MUCH higher stakes that deals with man versus nature and cycles of violence. Each film is good at different things, and I wouldn't want either one to try to be the other.

On the other end of the spectrum, saying that works are "better" with low stakes and less uncomfortable content is also a bad take. This leads to things like people saying there should never be a sex scene in a story because it doesn't "contribute to the plot." Sex, drugs, violence, and all sorts of other potentially uncomfortable topics can be filler, sure, but they can also be powerful tools to explore important topics. But I'm kinda preaching to the choir for most of the people on this site with this point.

On the other side, lighter fair can still be just as important. Heartstopper is a show I've often seen criticized for being too twee, too naive or optimistic in its portrayal of queer experiences, but even this show manages to deal with topics like homophobia, difficult family relationships for queer kids, and eating disorders. Just because a work's over all tone leans towards light and inoffensive, or even outright slice-of-life, doesn't mean there isn't meaningful storytelling happening.

I don't have a strong conclusion to this rant, but I hope that one day people stop with the perpetuation of this strange false dichotomy that a work is either low-stakes, soft, and story-less, or else a story has to be gritty, dark, and meaningful. Escapist media can still make you think. Low-stakes are not the same thing are no story. Explorations of joy can be just as important to us as explorations of pain or loss. Some of the most meaningful stories are about ordinary people, living and changing beside one another.

'Welcome to being a movie fan in the 21st Century, folks. It's not a new phenomenon for the weeks and months leading up to a major blockbuster to be filled with all sorts of hot takes and rampant speculation, but never have we been subjected to that through constant, unfiltered social media reactions. Sometimes, it takes the form of really fun and organic viral sensations (happy #Barbenheimer, one and all!) but, other times, you find yourself staring at a series of ill-informed and wildly off-base tweets making up the wildest claims about a movie — a movie which many of those opinionated individuals haven't even seen yet. "Oppenheimer," for better and worse, has been subject to both extreme ends of the spectrum.

That's not exactly a new development for Christopher Nolan, a director who has inadvertently attracted the most vocal movie fans out there. You'd be hard-pressed to find anyone without strong opinions on his "The Dark Knight" trilogy, but even his various original and non-IP films have given audiences a roadmap to tap into his biggest interests, fears, and fixations. That means the inevitable passage of time, recurring portrayals of dead wives/girlfriends, and the fact that the vast majority of his movies embody a very white perspective and worldview.

This is all present and accounted for in "Oppenheimer," admittedly, but a new wrinkle has been added to the mix. Ahead of Nolan's most overtly political film yet, certain segments of moviegoers have sounded the alarm bells and embraced a narrative that his interpretation of the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer, "Father of the Atomic Bomb," might somehow justify the horrific killings of hundreds of thousands of innocents. Thankfully, those unfounded fears were never even a remote possibility in the first place.

'The power to destroy ourselves'

Somebody once wrote a line of dialogue about how "You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain," put it in their breakout superhero movie, and all but predicted how bad-faith detractors would attempt to take him down a peg for years to come. Was Chris Nolan a self-fulfilling prophet? A student of history? Or was he just someone with the common sense to look around him and recognize what was what?

If the past really is our best signifier of the future, then it feels truly misguided to look at the filmmaker's past body of work and jump to conclusions that "Oppenheimer" would take the most didactic approach of them all. Not that anyone as privileged as Nolan needs us to circle the wagons on his behalf, but he's clearly made a career out of taking the moral quandaries inherent within complex, oftentimes contradictory characters and testing these to their breaking point in the most extreme of circumstances. After all, that's how we end up with movies about Bruce Wayne becoming an outlaw to save Gotham City, a pair of dueling magicians losing themselves in their obsessions, and a profoundly broken, guilt-ridden man committing an illegal mind heist to be reunited with his kids. Even "Dunkirk," arguably the most straightforward tale of heroism in Nolan's filmography, ends not on the stirring image of a captured British warplane essentially burning in effigy, but a disconcerting close-up on the soldier who only just barely survived this ordeal realizing he'll soon be shipped out to face even greater dangers to come.

Does any of this suggest a storyteller who'd strip the horror out of the most horrific act in human warfare ... or, instead, interpret it as yet another cautionary tale?

'American Prometheus'

For the moment, forget the fact that "American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer," the imposing biography written by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin that "Oppenheimer" is based on, refuses to pull any punches about the complicated legacy of its subject matter. Set aside the reams of documented, historical evidence that the United States' pretext for dropping the bombs on Japan was considered flimsy, even at the time. No, there's an even simpler explanation as to why "Oppenheimer" never even entertained the notion of being a "pro-nuclear bomb" movie: Where would any of the conflict or drama be in that?

There's a reason why the film begins with the haunting quote about the Greek god Prometheus stealing the fire of the gods and gifting it to us mere mortals ... only to be subsequently punished for eternity. Naturally, we then open on a young Oppenheimer already feeling tortured by visions of the quantum universe that only he can see — visions that, disturbingly, resemble violent nuclear explosions. Human nature, the film is practically screaming at its audience right from its earliest moments, will always trend towards self-destruction. Not only is this the quintessential archetype of a Nolan protagonist, but it's also the only dramatic interpretation of Oppenheimer's life that would merit devoting three whole hours to diving into his psychology.

There's a hypothetical, made-up version of "Oppenheimer" that would've actually lined up with the one concocted in the minds of the skeptics — one that's nothing but flag-waving jingoism (probably made by the same folks behind "Sound of Freedom") about how great America is at winning wars and proving doubters wrong. But the much richer text we received instead dares to confront horrible truths about our worst instincts. Because why else make this movie?

'Theory will take you only so far'

A little more than halfway through "Oppenheimer," after reports of Hitler's self-inflicted death and the fall of Nazi Germany come trickling in, the script goes out of its way to literalize the main conceit of the film. After Oppenheimer crashes a meeting of colleagues to discuss the effects of their "gadget" on the wider world, Nolan stages an actual debate about the ethics of dropping the atomic bombs on Japan. Informed that Japan's defeat seems "imminent" and that using their invention would inflict untold harm upon the world, Oppenheimer counters that world leaders can only "fear" and "understand" the weapon if they use it. When he offers up his pie-in-the-sky belief that all war will be unthinkable in a post-nuclear bomb world, the tepid applause his speech inspires only underlines his naïveté and denial.

Ever wonder how "Oppy" could convince himself to continue his work while compartmentalizing the devastating effects it would inevitably have on innocents caught in the blast? So does physicist Niels Bohr (Kenneth Branagh), who bestows the "American Prometheus" title on Oppenheimer and calls for international nuclear disarmament. So does the security council, when Roger Robb (Jason Clarke) calls out Oppenheimer's hypocrisy over when exactly he first began to develop "moral qualms" about his work. 

There are approximately dozens of examples like this throughout the mammoth runtime, where "Oppenheimer" doesn't really tip its hand so much as it slaps us in the face with the cold reality of the entire Manhattan Project. Theory will only take you so far, Oppenheimer's friend Ernest Lawrence (Josh Hartnett) puts it early on. If only those who assumed this adaptation would be "pro-nuke" followed that advice, set their prejudgment aside, and just ... watched the movie.'

It bothers me still that Andy Samberg and Jack Black amongst others fully participated in the Color the Spectrum campaign even though autistic adults who have followed these figures tried to bring to their attention the fact that fundraisers promoting ABA are ableist conversion-therapy funding bullshit that don't even involve any actual autistic people having any say in it. And it bothers me further that supposedly progressive people keep hyping up these figures and these seems little backlash that's big enough for them to even notice. This isn't to shame people who admire these celebrities, there's always going to be some "unproblematic white man" celebrity or another that the internet latches onto, and I'd go so far as to not even immediately assume anything other than ignorance on the part of these two men, but the fact is that the most influence that can be had is from their own fanbase.

I wish the people who post so much about Black and Samberg hyping them up all the time and bring up School of Rock in every other conversation would devote some time at least to join in those autistic voices that had tried to reach out to these very influential men. People like these who are seen as paragons of virtue while having a huge following could make a huge difference in ending the honestly torturous techniques that these ABA therapies are developing. Y'all talk a big game about holding people accountable but it only ever follows after someone already pisses you off and it's always about punishing people rather than trying to change their behaviour in a way that actually benefits marginalised folk.

Calling out ableism isn't just for vague old tweets from some small creator whom you found cringe, it's also for celebrities you actively like whose involvement in these movements has major impacts. Read what autistic people have said about ABA if you aren't aware, but surely if you believe these idols to be the good people that they are, they would be willing to learn to be better? Or do us autistics have to wait for them to do something cringe till you will get mad enough to bring it up?

Sharks, Donald Trump claimed, were attacking more frequently than usual (not true) and posed a newfound risk because boats were being required to use batteries (not true), which would cause them to sink because they were too heavy (really, really not true—the world’s heaviest cruise ship, the Icon of the Seas, managed to stay afloat because of the laws of physics despite weighing more than 550 million pounds).

Trump, undeterred by truth or science, invoked his intellectual credentials by mentioning his “relationship to MIT.” (Trump’s uncle was a professor at the university, pioneering rotational radiation therapy, which seems a somewhat tenuous connection for conferring shark- or battery-related expertise to his nephew.) If Trump had been able to ask his uncle about the risks of being electrocuted by a boat battery because, as Trump put it, “there’s a lot of electric current coming through that water,” perhaps the professor would have informed him that high-capacity batteries would rapidly discharge in seawater and pose minuscule risk to humans because the water conducts electricity far better than human bodies do.

Sharks appear to have troubled Trump’s mind for years. On July 4, 2013, Trump twice tweeted about them, saying, “Sorry folks, I’m just not a fan of sharks—and don’t worry, they will be around long after we are gone.” Two minutes later, he followed that nugget of wisdom with: “Sharks are last on my list—other than perhaps the losers and haters of the World!”

These deranged rants are tempting to laugh off. They’re par for the course. Trump is Trump. But Trump may also soon be the president of the United States. Imagine the response if Joe Biden had made the same rambling remarks, word for word. Consider this excerpt:

“I say, ‘What would happen if the boat sank from its weight and you’re in the boat and you have this tremendously powerful battery and the battery’s underwater, and there’s a shark that’s approximately 10 yards over there?’ By the way, a lot of shark attacks lately. Do you notice that? A lot of shark … I watched some guys justifying it today: ‘Well, they weren’t really that angry. They bit off the young lady’s leg because of the fact that they were not hungry, but they misunderstood who she was.’ These people are crazy.”

Coming from Biden, that exact statement might have prompted calls from across the political spectrum for him to drop out of the race. From Trump, it was a blip that barely registered. I’ve previously called this dynamic “the banality of crazy”: Trump’s ludicrous statements are ignored precisely because they’re so routine—and routine occurrences don’t drive the news. They are the proverbial “dog bites man” stories that get ignored by the press. Except that even this truism breaks down when it comes to the asymmetry between coverage of Trump and Biden: Based on Google News tallies, the news story about Biden’s dog biting a Secret Service agent spurred far more press coverage than Trump saying that he would order shoplifters to be shot without a trial if he became president.

Still, Trump appears to be benefiting from the sheer superfluity of crazy. At rallies, the former president makes stream-of-consciousness statements that would raise questions about the mental acuity of anyone who said them at, say, the tail end of a night at a neighborhood bar, but that somehow don’t generate the same level of concern within the press or the Republican Party when Trump says them in front of a cheering crowd. By contrast, when Biden makes a gaffe—mixing up a name or a date rather than, for example, suggesting that boats sink because they’re heavy—questions arise about his mental fitness to be president. A president who occasionally misspeaks is far less worrying than one who purveys delusional fantasies and conspiracy theories. Biden may gaffe, but he lives in reality; Trump often doesn’t.

Today, a prominent New York Times columnist called on one of the two candidates to drop out. Astonishingly, it wasn’t the authoritarian felon who inspired a violent mob to attack the Capitol, tried to overturn a democratic election, has been banned from doing business in New York due to fraud—and yet again showcased his loose grip on reality by ranting about sharks.

With everything said and checked, it's only natural that I will project my own identity into her. I feel like during her more youthful days she'd try to find some kind of a crush or a partner so she can relate to her peers, but each time it felt like a waste of space and energy. It's only when got into Special Forces that she completely gave up.

She respects people who share her mindset, or those who simply don't have the charm. She cannot stand, however, if someone insists on "fixing her" with a saying "I'm not like the other guys you've been with!". Those types of guys wake up in a dumpsite with their faces covered in bruises.

KUNG LAO (HE/HIM) — HOMOSEXUAL

Every iteration of Kung Lao is gay in my headcanons. The way it's presented is different.

Kung Lao, as a monk, cannot commit himself to marrying someone, therefore, falling in love is also off the list. The difficulties in maintaining a cold-hearted demeanor began when he was assigned as a temporary supervisor to Liu Kang and his heart began to melt (side note: THEY'RE NOT COUSINS! IT'S A MISTRANSLATION! THE WORD LIU USES ROUGHLY MEANS "A STUDENT SENIOR"! READ JOHN TOBIAS' TWEETS WHERE HE DISPROVES THIS MISCONCEPTION! ALSO LIU LITERALLY SAID HE'S AN ORPHAN HOW THE FUCK WOULD HE HAVE A COUSIN? THINK, MK FANDOM, THINK! sorry I'm just so sick of seeing this same statement over and over again. back to hc ^^☆). Lao knew he felt something for Liu, but was it simple friendly love, or more? He couldn't tell, as he didn't have anyone close prior to Liu Kang. Sometimes, his anxiousness becomes so intense he isolates himself, but not for long until Liu brings him down to ground.

LIU KANG (HE/THEY) — DEMISEXUAL, DEMIBOY

I'd imagine it's hard to get to know Liu Kang on a meaningful level, not because he's avoidant, but because 99% of the time you wouldn't know what the fuck is bro thinking about (only Kung Lao could decipher the code, and he doesn't share). Liu, in general, is pretty apathetic towards people, but once he likes you, he'll let you know. Whether it's regular private talks, sharing what's his or, hell, even saying "I like you" straightforwardly.

Don't ask why he's a demiboy though. It fits the vibes ok!!

Listen, at first I headcanoned 2021!Kabal as aroace since it just made sense in my eyes. But then I watched the Behind the scenes video where they said that Kabal carries Stryker's badge, "his fallen partner", and I'm like "Okay man, weird way of coming out but congrats". That's when I thought I should just make him homoace as a way of satisfying both the demon and the angel on my shoulders.
