my new fav swansea hc is that he has bpd bc one, hes so me fr, and two people with bpd tend to be more prone to addiction and its just so like... it fits his character heavily Mainly because bpd is linked to impulsive behavior statistically 78% of adults with bpd struggle with substances (study from 2014, so probably a higher percentage now) also i love to hc that his wife is his emotional support person AND HIS DOG. YEAH YOU GET IT Misty is Very Obviously a victim of sexual abuse(i also see her as having BPD), and after going through further trauma with the plane crash she latches onto ben to get the only kind of attention she's familiar with. the fact that ben, a Grown Ass Man who had to have gone through some kind of safeguarding training to be a teacher could only see that she's messed up after she fully breaks down when he tries to kill himself is insane to me. Misty would've listened to him if he sat her down and genuinely told her that what she's doing and what she wants him to do is wrong; that having a crush on someone she looks up to is Normal but actively wanting to pursue a sexual relationship with someone that's much older then her Isn't normal or safe. this is the kind of talk that he Should be able to have with her(an impressionable Child who would listen to him, because even outside of her attraction towards him she trusts and relies on him because he's Her Teacher) Even if he felt like he had to lie, even if he wouldn't be able to talk to her about that, he chose the absolute Worst option. it makes me so upset how nobody mentions how he Pretended To Groom Her for at least a month. it doesn't help them or their situation at all And will still be Even More traumatic for her (and further her belief that these kinds of relationships are okay for her to have) i could write so much more about this but its really late here.... i think about her a lot

This may be controversial but “pretend grooming” is almost if not just as bad as actually grooming because Ben might not go through with his “pretending,” but what happens when Misty goes back home? When Misty is a young, impressionable (now 18 at the time of the rescue) woman whose going to be thrusted into the public eye very quickly and now will have thousands if not Millions of men aware of her existence. She also goes off to college at some point so how does this affect her relationship with her professors?

This is a little tmi but last year I was assaulted by a professor of mine and the whole situation was insane and I can’t imagine how someone like Misty (who doesn’t have the same coping skills/learned boundaries as I do) would of reacted especially since Ben has now prepped her to be accepting of that type of behavior. Gothic Horror HCs But Using The Penny Dreadful Versions As Well Cus I Like Them

Hello, So recently I have been really obsessed with 1800s gothic horror literature.

My favorite books are (in order);

1. Frankenstein The Modern Prometheus

2. The Picture Of Dorian Gray

3. The Strange Case Of Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde

4. Dracula

So imagine my fucking excitement when I heard there was a show that used THOSE EXACT FOUR BOOKS!!!!

Anyway I thought I'd take the time to talk about my favorite characters from the books/show and hcs I have for them all.

Now massive Trigger Warning for some ableism/sanism from the victorian era but also current day, and also queermisia.

All of these characters are canon ND I believe based off of their canon "madness" and I also believe they were all queer men.

Victor Frankenstein

Victor is a trans man you must understand this. He literally has postpartum depression in the book. He is also forced into an arranged marriage with a woman but has so much more chemistry with his best friend Henry Clerval. I think he's gay and his love for both Elizabeth and Lilly are just comphet. (He loves Elizabeth like a sister tho).

Victor is also disabled in the book. In Penny Dreadful he also has asthma! I also hc Victor is autistic. In the book he has a special interest in alchemy and science. He info dumps about poetry and clocks a lot in Penny Dreadful lmao. He's also just awkward like me fr fr. There was also a rlly funny scene in Penny Dreadful where everyone noticed this one character was a trans woman and made a "face" of surprise. Victor never did because honestly I don't think he fucking noticed. Which made me laugh because I didn't either.

Dorian Gray

This man is just me sometimes and I kinda hate it. Definitely has BPD. He treats life as a fantasy and has a hard time applying reality to reality. He also will love you one second and can hate you so passionately the next. Henry Wotton is most definitely his favorite person. There's also an entire chapter in the book dedicated to talking about his hyperfixations. Dorian is also bisexual! He falls in love with a few women in the book and Penny Dreadful. But also many men! Oscar Wilde was gay and put a lot of himself into Dorian lmao.

Henry Jekyll

Look the guy with daddy issues. Seriously out of all the things they chose to adapt for Penny Dreadful this made me laugh the most (in a good way). It's a random throwaway line in the book but I'm glad they kept it because his father leads to Henry's toxic mindset. Henry feels the need to be respectful in high society and not indulge his "indecent" thoughts. These thoughts include things like murder but also homosexual desires. The man is gay, love that for him. Don't let the musical fool you. I think his other violent thoughts come from OCD intrusive thoughts. As a median system I do also relate to the duality he feels. But I also would be careful ever putting a plural reading on Jekyll and Hyde for obvious reasons.

Robert Montague Renfield

Oh Renfield so much to say about you my man. (This is where that TW comes in handy)

Ok so the R.M. of his name standing for "Robert Montague" is ONLY from the new 2023 movie "Renfield". Renfield never had a first name because Bram Stoker was an ableist dick who saw Renfield as less than human for his mental illness. So out of spite of him and love for Renfield I hc his name to be Robert in all versions. This isn't to praise the new movie for its handle on mental illness though. While I absolutely adore the movie and it's camp and message I can't look past the ableism. It constantly demonizes NPD and for the topic of our discussion writes out Robert's mental illness. Robert in the book has psychosis and periods of mania and depression. Honestly I'll have to reread his sections of the book soon and see if I change my opinion because I had a hard time thinking of a label for him. Anyway I think he has Bipolar! But this is why I prefer Penny Dreadful over Renfield 2023 for the character. He gets to be mentally ill and still do a good thing and be just like everyone else in the show (not good or bad, just gray). On the topic of Renfield 2023 again I also think they (Drac and Ren) are ex lovers lmao, I mean it's literally framed like that they just don't have the balls to say it. I now just read every version like this. So yes another Bi king! Wow this ended up mainly being about Renfield whoops.

Twisted Wonderland mento illness headcanons please kind sir 🙏

I way I left ibis paint so fast- YES. I’m gonna run down my personal hcs for what mental illness I think twst characters have and a bit of a reasoning why! (Also some autism hc because autism cause why not and also just so you know and as a comment pointed out neurodivergent conditions aren’t mental illness)

I must note now at the beginning that I am just a 16 year old don’t come to me for any actual mental illness diagnosis or advice I am not a licensed therapist nor do I claim to be one. I just have a strong interest for psychology and took a few high school courses on psychology.

If you or a loved on have any suspicions they might have a mental illness (if you are able) I would recommend going to a licensed psychiatrist

Now with that warning out the way let’s get into it‼️

I feel like Riddle has BPD (borderline personality disorder) and PTSD. I don’t have a strong reason for why I think he has BPD he just has the vibes ya know? PTSD because of his mother. A lot of people don’t talk about it but you can get PTSD from abusive parents (if you try to say Riddles mom wasn’t abusive I’m gonna reach through the screen and beat the shit out of you).

Cater has HPD (Historic personality disorder), he’s very attention seeking online and I feel like he can be really dramatic then get over it really fast like nothing happened (me fr). He was that kid that was scared all his friends thought he was annoying and would do anything they asked. Also he’s hypersexual cause I said so

Ace has ADHD and Deuce has Autism. Epic rap battles of history ADHD vs Autism.

Leona has depression, it’s pretty clear from his characterization that he has depression. With his lack of motivation and over sleeping being some of them

Ruggie definitely has an eating disorder. No one talks about his eating habits like they do Azuls but I feel like he has binge eating disorder because of his troubled past with food. Like when he has food he will eat himself til he throws up if no one stops him because of an internalized fear of there not always being food to eat so he’ll eat as much as he can. (This might just be me self projecting ngl because me and Ruggie have a similar past)

Jack just has autism. Notably he hates wool textures and would have crying fits of his mom tried to make him wear them

Azul already has an eating disorder it’s clear from his relationship with eating and the fact he was bullied for his weight. I’m not sure what kind he would fall under but he definitely has one. I also hc him to have Autism

Jade also has Autism but he has low empathy also.

Floyd has cluster B personality disorder written all over him Idc what you say. I think he has BPD personally but that also might be self projection again. He has ADHD and like his brother also has low empathy as well

I hc that Jamil has NPD (Narcissistic Personality Disorders) but just keeps all of his personal thoughts to himself so no one else knows.

I feel like Vil also NPD funny enough because it makes a lot of sense with his character. He checks most of the boxes anyways

Rook is smt else. I can’t understand him

Epel has anger issues but he’s actively getting help.

Idia has social anxiety that’s pretty clear also Autism because I can definitely see him going on super long rants to Azul about his favorite anime at the time. I believe I mentioned it before but I think he takes Anixety medication for his social anxiety

Malleus has BPD also because imma be honest with you Overbloting because your best friend and dad are leaving you because your scared of the time you have left with them so you put everyone in a dream is a very BPD thing to do. Also Autism because this man will take any chance he can to talk about Gargoyles and I love that for him. You go dragon boy

Half Oni, Half Human Canonically he has ADHD and BPD. (Feel free to hc him as autistic aswell idm, no other hcs tho pls lmAO, feel free to ask if he does XYZ in my askbox, but do not hc.) British/Japanese. He is 6'3 (tall man, love him, towers over so many), loves candy (any, even that chalky valentines candy stuff), he's left handed, constantly carries chapstick, and kinda needs glasses but rarely wears them (bc hes an arse). He has a dog!!! Leonberger/Great Pyrenees X called Mochi!!!! She's big and fluffyyy!!

if he knows how to build smth (mechanical) he can just build it instantly, not needing to touch the materials (idk how to explain it? like he can float electronics but he cant hold them mid-air THEY HAVE to be added to Smth mechanical/technological)

is able to hack certain things without touching them, but mostly just does that to annoy Zane when he's younger (Lloyds command/prank) and rarely does it at all later on, leading him to barely be able to do it at alllll when it's needed (most of the time it isn't because of Jay, Nya and Zane having tech knowledge and jay being master of lighting).

Mostly he can just barely use it at all other than to control small devices/andriods because he's never needed to use it. (Up until Roni, which I'll not down stuff for later, might make it so that he's forced to make a few different Oni soldiers and then have his father mass produce them? I want to preface this by saying if you don't want to answer this i totally get it, so long as I know you read it that's all I really want. But I want to let you know that youre not a dick at all for the tags you had left on my self shipping post. I haven't met a single person who was comfortable with self shippers who try to claim a character as theirs and act weird as hell towards other fans about it, but almost everyone is scared to say it in case they seem like a dick or something. I was kind of unsure of whether to say something too but I was like nah fuck this man, this is weird as hell and funny as fuck too given what prompted me to get a whole ass DNI created because of me. And Tumblr is not gonna fool me into treating this shit like its rational just because it's on a DNI list. Because for one thing there is manipulative tactics behind it, such as

1. Posting it to where I would definitely see it rather than just immediately blocking me, because it was posted within 10 minutes of my post, and it (very likely on purpose) made me uncomfortable as motherfucking hell.

2. The "if you cant give in and stop posting about it" line. That's absolutely controlling as fuck, especially since my entire blog is about Gamzee and always has been. If you're actually that unable to control how you feel to the point someone having a crush on the same character as you makes you have a mental breakdown, why couldn't you just block me right away, or maybe not follow a blog dedicated to Gamzee in the first place?

3. The ND-ness she's referring to is that she has BPD. So do I lmao. It doesn't mean that you can try to control other people instead of doing what you can to make yourself comfortable...such as insta blocking. Like yeah I'd wonder wtf I did, but I wouldn't be left dealing with this annoying ass feeling of like, damn, I lost a friend over the stupidest shit ever, and she fr was trying to stop me from having this little thing that brings joy into my life and has gave me a sense of community even. And for what? A fucking fictional guy? It already sucks when friendships end over real dudes. Much less dudes who don't even exist and who, even if he was real...like....he would choose you over every other fan he has why...?

4. "It will be better for me and for you". Girl what the fuck does that mean???? Purposefully making vague almost threatening remarks instead of just insta blocking.

5. Her submissive, insecure language is very misaligned with her vague threats, request that I and others change what we post strictly for her comfort, and desire to have me see that post before she blocked me (she blocked me a while later. Long enough after that I would have definitely seen it).

It's exciting and makes you happy and can even make you confident, it's a nice little daydream you can have whenever you want, and gushing over a celebrity or fictional crush with a friend can be fun! Why deprive others of that, especially your friends? So when a crush crosses into the realm of obsession, trying to alter the behavior of your friends, being fucking miserable and angry over someone who's not real and who, even if he WAS real, might not even want you over your "competition" to begin with, or hell who might not even want you at all, then what you need is to seek help, not to have people completely enable you into spiraling. Nobody can change her, but they don't owe it to her to encourage or even just be cool with her bizarre behavior either. People like her make fandoms become toxic and weird. He's also incredibly fixated on his job and "playing" with people, his humans, it's his biggest interest and he finds little else as interesting.
