It’s bad enough you took the keycard off that fat fuck of a target first, but failing to follow you smacks Lloyd’s ego in just the wrong way. By the time he gets back to his luxurious hotel room, he’s fuming and itching to shoot something. You don’t need to be a mind-reader to know this; the man is still a man, after all, no matter how trained and controlled he thinks he is.

That’s why you’re here, trussed up in a sapphire blue bodysuit, smirking at the irritation radiating off of your rival as his eyes rake the length of your mostly-bare figure.

“Darling,” you burst, posing like a ‘50s housewife by the armchair, playful and sickeningly sweet. “You’re home! I was so worried.”

Anger quivers his lip coat till he vaguely resembles a pouting porcupine. God, you hate mustaches. You’re willing to bet—if you really put your back into it—you could hump his face with such friction, it’d rub him smooth. There are less-worthwhile endeavors that you’ve completely only today. Why not experiment?

“You have some fucking nerve, bitch.”

Lloyd keeps his steps forward into the room slow and casual, though his ire is obvious. He stops halfway across the carpet, unzips his leather jacket, and tosses it onto the foot of the bed.

He seems surprised when you strut over without hesitation; he hasn’t handed over any weapons, but you haven’t asked for a reason. Lloyd’s reputation is cocky, commanding, and curious—in that order—so he won’t start speculating till it’s too late.

Indeed, what possible harm could you inflict wearing this lil’ ol’ thing, huh?

As you get closer, his hand reaches out instinctually.

“Ah, ah, ah,” you tsk in warning. “If you rip my lace, I will gut you like a fish. Understood?”

“Can’t make any promises, but…”

Lloyd, undeterred, clamps his hand between your legs and runs a finger through your folds, proving the crotchless lingerie isn’t in danger of typical snags.

The pad of his digit is rough and teasing.

“I think we can work with that,” he growls.

“Of course, cutie pie, and I’m counting on many little deaths.” You look at the knife in your hand, concerned. “Please tell me this isn’t the biggest weapon you're packing, or I’ll be so disappointed.”

He’s smug while unbuckling his belt and shucking off his pants. Lloyd Hansen now proudly stands stark nude.

You let your eyes go comically wide, but then your brow furrows and you shrug.

“You’re welcome to keep talking while I sit on your face, but otherwise… I’m unimpressed.”

Lloyd huffs with indignation.

“Fuck you.”

Like the footballer he used to be, he rushes you.

“Promise?” you coo, dodging him and landing a sharp smack to his butt cheek. It’s spectacularly sculpted, plump, and rock hard all at once.

“Oh my! Darling, you did not lead with your best asset…” You notice the faint scar on his pale skin and giggle. “Little prick got pricked, I see.”

Your amusement gives him a split second to grab you, and Lloyd uses the opportunity to shove you back into the window so violently the thick glass rattles its frame.

“Shut your fucking mouth,” he spits viciously, not so cocky as before.

“Isn’t that what I’ve been begging you to do for me, sweetheart?”

Mouth hanging open in a taunt, one hand strokes him, the other warns. The tip of the knife you still wield barely grazes the notch between ribs where you could swiftly puncture his lung. Lloyd watches, fuming and mesmerized, until you transfer the pooling saliva to your palm and resume jerking his cock.

“A firm hand really does make you harder, doesn’t it?”

That snaps him out of it.

He scrambles to bend you over that same armchair you started at, and Lloyd’s version of prep is a single, perfunctory dig of two fingers into your cunt.

Resident Evil 4 vs 8, and Ludonarrative Resonance

Having fallen so very hard for RE8 late last year, I’m incapable of talking about the new RE4 remake without comparing the two – especially when RE8 now occupies the bizarre position of being simultaneously the remake’s immediate predecessor, canonical-later-sequel, and also other pseudo-remake of RE4.

And it’s hard to appreciate just how much RE8 draws from RE4 until you’ve played them both – in broad concept (sinister bioweapon cult in isolated European village, lengthy castle section, awkward shift towards military-shooter-itis at the end – heck, did you know RE8 was even supposed to have Ada Wong showing up with a sniper rifle to rescue Ethan from cutscenes in early drafts? Because that was definitely going too far) and its initial chapter especially. I’d osmosed the broad strokes, but not, for example, the degree to which the first lycan attack in 8 is basically just the first village assault from RE4: mobbed by an endless stream of regular enemies and the one big guy (who you can defeat, but should probably just try to avoid) in an open environment until an invisible timer runs out and everyone goes home.

It’s not a one-way street: it’s only fair to say that by the time of RE4make, Capcom was re-integrating a lot of what worked in 8 back into the new RE4. But as many elements represent a conscious step back from the reinventions of RE7 in favour of recreating gameplay elements of the original: 3rd person view, visible health bar, etc. The same basic arsenal of pistol-shotgun-sniper-rile becomes available to you in that order, but trying to play Leon as you would Ethan is not going to come off seamlessly.

Leon he can’t block, for one. He can parry, but that’s not the same thing. His knife works very differently, many of its uses contextual. You have to aim before firing now – hitting fire without aiming first makes Leon slash with his knife instead (very annoying when I have the sniper rifle equipped, the enemy is too close for the scope to be useful, and failing to get a round off in a hurry is about to make my life a lot more uncomfortable) – and if you’re aiming, you can’t parry. The gameplay in the RE4 remake is honestly my favourite thing about it (the story is... more of a mixed bag, but we'll get to that), but coming to it directly off RE8 is just a little frustrating until you get your head around it. GDI, Leon, Ethan can make a decent mine that doesn’t go off on its own if it’s not tripped in 30 seconds, why can’t you?

Questionable nitpicks aside though, having gotten the hang of RE4’s combat, the more I think about it, the more the differences between how Ethan and Leon handle do actually work for me, and even make sense from a character-centric POV. Intentionally or not, there’s a kind of ludonarrative resonance to it all.

If you’ve read any video game critique in the last decade or so, you’ve likely run into the term ludonarrative dissonance: coined to highlight all those times when the story a game tells via dialogue and cutscenes clashes with the ‘ludonarrative’, or story created by the gameplay. The classic example is something like the Tomb Raider reboot, where cutscenes linger on the trauma of Lara's first human kill, but gameplay will still see her easily mowing down enemies mooks by the dozen barely five minutes later. See also: any time a character is a total badass in gameplay, but can be easily overpowered by a single opponent when necessary for a cutscene. This kind of narrative inconsistency is to some degree the nature of the medium – it’s a rare game that can avoid it altogether, but it can still throw you out of the experience.

For a more Resident Evil specific example, consider that minor plot point from RE6 which reveals that Sherry (one of the many playable characters) has an Ethan-like healing ability as a result of her exposure to the G-virus back in RE2. This has no effect on gameplay, before or after the reveal: Sherry’s health bar works the same as any other character’s. Even the RE4 remake hits this problem: letting Ashley be carried too far away by an enemy mook is an instant game-over in gameplay, but you’d better be prepared to see the exact same thing happen in multiple cutscenes at specified plot points, with no way to avoid it (c’mon, game, I know they’re just gonna stick her in a room with no guards somewhere, lemme go find her!)

You could arguably find a similar problem to Sherry’s in RE8, where Ethan very-canonically comes back from the dead after having his heart ripped out in a cutscene, even though he can absolutely be killed in regular gameplay. And yet, here, I’m inclined to cut the game some slack – because there is arguably an explanation provided, and it’s suitably horrific.

Ethan may be able to reattach severed limbs and walk off falls from great heights, but having his heart ripped out puts him down long enough to convince Chris he’s really dead – definitely down for the count. And if you pay attention to the (many) death-scenes that play after Ethan is killed by a lycan or moroi, you may notice that most monsters immediately start eating him as they light fades away. Ethan may come back after having his heart ripped out, but being digested may be a step too far.

And Ethan can get eaten a lot in this game. Moreau can eat you. The mould-foetus-monster can eat you. Dimitrescu makes pretty-fucking-clear her own desire to eat you too. Sturm doesn’t, but is certainly equipped to reduce Ethan to a fine, pink mist.  Whether those final-moments were included specifically to fill that plot hole or whether they were just thrown in for ‘ordinary’ horror value I can only speculate, but it’s always nice when all those little, gory details tie together, isn’t it?

If we’re going to take games to task for all those probably-accidental moments where the gameplay and the story clash, it’s only fair to note a few of the ones where they do the opposite (likewise-accidental though they may be). Ludonarrative resonance, if you will.

On a basic level, pointing out that gameplay differences between RE4 and 8 make sense for Ethan’s vs Leon’s respective strengths and weaknesses may be a little too obvious. Leon can stagger an enemy with a bullet and then rush in to finish him off a roundhouse kick or a supplex because Leon is a certified badass with way more training than Ethan (who makes one vague mention of having had military training, presumably as an excuse for why he aims so much faster in RE8 than 7).

But it goes so far beyond that.

There’s the issue of blocking, for one. Ethan can block – roughly holding his hands up in front of himself to reduce incoming damage – but Leon can’t. This was initially annoying, but the more I thought about it, the more I liked it as a logical change. Sure, Leon can’t block, but Leon doesn’t secretly have mould-powered super-healing, and trying to tank axe-blows to reattachable parts of his body probably isn’t a viable strategy. What he can do is parry with his knife: a more skill-dependent strategy for a more-skilled guy. Timing is much trickier, but only his knife takes damage – Leon doesn’t, so when it works, it’s much better than blocking. And given Leon has this whole backstory-thing about being trained by a knife-obsessed nutjob, that all adds up too.

Then there’s the thing with ladders. Ethan can fall any distance without taking damage, but convincing him to take a gravity-shortcut doesn’t always work: if there’s a ladder nearby, he’ll take it. Leon, by contrast, clearly sees ladders as a waste of time. Ashley will use them to get down from high places, if there’s one available, but Leon, to my joy, prefers to jump. And again, there’s an arguable logic there that appeals to me: Ethan may be immune to falling damage, but he’s badly in denial about it, and would much prefer to take the stairs. Leon isn’t superhuman, but he knows parkour, and he’s damn well going to use it.

Health arguably follows similar logic. Ethan doesn’t get a proper health bar (maybe you need training to accurately judge how dead you are? IDK), just various colours to tell you roughly how bad this is going, and Ethan will be reduced to stumbling through a distorted red haze if you let him go too far into the red zone. Stumble around long enough without dying though, and Ethan will eventually walk it off, automatically returning to about half-health. Notably, Leon doesn’t get this same power (unless you’re playing on the very easiest difficulty – Ethan remains auto-healing right up to Village of Shadows level). But for a dude who canonically has healing powers, you can’t argue that makes a lot of sense.

The same rules apply to Mia too, when you’re playing her in RE7 – but given she’s been infected with the mould too, that tracks (and even if you did choose her for the cure, who’s to say how well such a haphazard cure even worked?)

This logic does break down a bit in RE8 when you play as Chris, and blocking and walking-it-off remain core mechanics. And if you wanted to get really nitpicky, you might even point out the same mechanics are available to Ethan in his very first fight with Mia in RE7, where he’s (presumably?) not infected yet. But there comes a point where you have to admit that expecting the devs to change gameplay so much for one brief section of a much longer game isn’t really realistic (and would be that much more annoying to get used to for this one tiny section anyway).

Amusingly though, in the Mercenaries DLC, Chris has been reworked somewhat, and now can’t block anymore: hitting the ‘block’ button throws a left hook instead. Which is only too appropriate for Chris Boulder-Punching Redfield – but it’s interesting to note that Lady Dimitrescu (another new playable character) can’t block either.

The only other character in Mercenaries mode who can block is Heisenberg, and he does so by raising a literal wall of sheet metal. Intentionally or otherwise, Mercenaries does kinda seem to cast Ethan’s ability to substantially reduce damage just by holding up his arms as pretty unique.

Speaking of health, Leon and Ethan can both increase their maximum HP – Leon by using yellow herbs, Ethan by eating food cooked for him by the Duke. Ethan, however, can also decrease the damage he takes while blocking and increase his running speed this way. This is the sort of game mechanic it’s probably not worth thinking too hard about, but even so, the idea that mould-man Ethan can enhance his own powers by eating food from around the village where the mould originates (and specially prepared by the nigh-omniscient Duke himself) is something I raised already over in my post on Mia and Miranda – and it fits here too. Leon, meanwhile, can only increase his own durability by buying body armour, then paying even more to keep it repaired (there is a case charm that increases his speed a little too, but it’s bloody hard to get).

There are other little details that follow the same pattern too – whereas in RE8, I found myself mostly using the pistol to finish off any enemies who didn’t quite go down in one shotgun blast, in RE4, I found myself relying on my basic pistol a lot more, even when not going for kung-fu finishers. Mostly, that’s down to enemy speed and ammo availability, but you can’t argue it makes sense that the better-trained Leon would be better-equipped to get the job done with lower-calibre weaponry.

Now, to be clear, I doubt most of these little differences are down to the devs going “okay, this new game is about a mould-superman, how do we work that into gameplay?” when RE7 came out – and I’m pretty sure a lot of how the new RE4 plays is down to an earnest attempt to include as much of the old RE4 as still makes sense. Leon has a visible health bar and can supplex enemies into the dirt because people loved the original, and we’re not here to completely reinvent the best features of the wheel. Half the stuff that screams ludonarrative resonance to me is probably more happy accident as design.

But when, for example, you’re being irritated by the discovery that the only mines available to Leon will just go off on their own after 30 seconds if not triggered by an enemy, it’s nice to be able to tell yourself “bloody hell, guess you need a real engineer like Ethan to make a half-decent mine!” and treat that like an excuse. It doesn’t fundamentally change the way either game plays, but it feels like there’s some rhyme and reason to it, and that’s just a little bit more fun. And they’re both great combat systems in their own fun way.

TLDR: Got materials from recycling centre, made a shoulder bag.

I’m avoiding getting things from shops, even though this may help some bigger picture of gross national product. There are literally millions of abandoned items out there in landfills, dug illegally in someone’s backyard, or dumped in the oceans.

Also unfortunately making things is a part of the consumerist cycle, although this has the somewhat happy effect of not financing companies who probably have their junk made in unfortunate sweatshops (although in some cases, people working in sweatshops may prefer them, since the alternative is homelessness and/or prostitution, gdi this world.)

So these days I’m in the habit of trying to get my crafting materials as well as my dresses, cardigans, skirts and coats from the Helsinki area recycling centre, as well as books, kitchen utensils, tools, curtains, and so on, and so on. The shoulder bag I made for myself (in the picture) is made mostly of recycled materials, with the lining, the top material, the accenty edgy blue thing I have no word for in English right now, and the shoulder strap all made from what more or less seemed like old junk at the thrift store (the shoulder strap especially! it was very dirty when I got it, it had an 80s packaging, and it was 100 % mercerized cotton made in Italy.)

The new parts are the metal bits, and the iron-on stiffening fabric on the inside of the bag. I could have gotten recycled metal bits by finding the right kind of bag, taking it apart, and reusing the parts, but I couldn’t find an ugly enough bag or a bag in such poor condition that I would have felt comfortable putting a knife to it. In total, with the fusing, the metal bits, and the fabrics and the shoulder strap, the whole project cost 15 €, of which all the recycled materials cost me 5 € (and I’ve still bits left.)

All in all, not a bad project.

(That’s a black tutu underneath. I made it for ballet class and I still haven’t attached buttons to the waistband, so I close it with safety pins at the moment >.>)

This episode was all about Bonds.

The bond between Egwene and Perrin as close friends and not letting the other one die so they can live. Also the growing bond of Perrin with the wolves and Egwene's grasp on the Source.

The bond between Rand and Mat, and their pact to "help" each other if it turns out one of them can channel. They don't want to suffer the way they saw the False Dragon suffering. But also Mat's twisted bond to the knife and how it's making him sick and in pain.

The bond between Sisters, and Moraine's friendship with Alanna and the hinted friendship with Siuan.

The bond of brotherhood that all Warders share, because they share the common purpose of protecting their Aes Sedai. They know how hard it is to share a mind with another, and they look out for their own.

And the deep dark despair that is the severed bond when we lose someone of utmost importance. The way Stepin was trying to put on a happy face, even though every one knew he was hurting. How he thought he would go along with bonding to Alanna, because that is supposedly a way to save a Lost Warder, but he just... can't do it. He can't go on. The look of resigned horror on Lan's face when he knew. He just knew. And he approached Stepin's body so softly, and so tenderly, and when he wept, Moraine wept with him. She doesn't want this to happen to Lan. I don't know if they will go into this, but she specifically makes sure that Lan's bond will pass to someone else so that he can stay alive until he can be someone else's Warder. And it hurts to see that look on Moraine's face, that she will do ANYTHING to protect Lan and make sure that he isn't the one wearing white.

How did they meet?

Kesil's dad hired Veritas to kill Kesil, knowing that it was unlikely she'd succeed. Kesil meanwhile is like 'gdi not this shit again' but both ultimately took it...well.

Who flirted with who first?

Does calling someone by a sarcastic nickname while trying to knife them count??? (Kesil, probably)

Was it love at first sight or a slowburn romance?

I don't think I'd call it a slowburn but it was definitely not love at first sight. More like annoyance that never left and now years of marriage and children later, they're still here.

Did they start dating right away or were they friends before things became romantic?

They had a road of going from 'oh it's you.' To like understanding and quiet commiserating. To being comfortable to be around and I guess friends. I don't think either really call it friendship but it was a camaraderie.

What was their first date?

Depends on who you ask. Kesil would say that it is an outing to a pier on his birthday. Veritas would say...their first date (technically we never established the first date)?

What are their favourite things to do on date nights?

Just being out and about is fine with them. There doesn't have to be anything special going on. Usually walking around somewhere busy or even in the quiet of nature. Or going to different dessert based spots.

Do they still go on dates after being together for a while?

I mean considering their loose definition, yes they do.

What is their love language?

Hmm, tough call. I think Veritas would lean towards acts of service. Like she wants to be able to do something for Kesil even if he doesn't mind whatever comes to mind. And it is frustrating when he is insistent on not needing anything. Kesil's is weirdly words of affirmation. Sure, he says weird things but there is affection in his teasing. Even if a lot of his jokes and flirts goes over Veritas' head.

Who kissed who first?

I would imagine it to be Veritas since Kesil is unlikely to initiate it since he tries not treading outside of her comfort zone. Unless it was some accident or joke that came from his poor sense of humor. Although they probably wouldn’t count it.

Who started the relationship?

Kesil since he did start with the whole date thing and putting forward the idea of dating. (Even though he almost chickened out because worry of unrequited feelings).

Monogamy or Polyamory?

Monogamy. They are both rather hard to get close to to begin with so the idea of having another that they would also have a relationship with...sounds exhausting to them. Further, they both have their own forms of jealousy that wouldn’t allow that fly. Kesil being more of a problem than Veritas to me. 

Are they/do they plan on getting married?

At this point in their relationship? No. Both do want to get married however do not believe that the other would go for it. Or that they do not have what it takes to be a spouse but also don’t want to give up the other. So it is a bit of stalemate. Although this is all within their heads since they’ve sidled into a comfortable coexistence with each other. 

Who proposed? Was it a yes or no?

Kesil. He took her to the exact spot they first met (he swears he can still see gashes from their weapons on the trees). Under the stars and with an excellently crafted dagger that could most certainly kill his kind, he offered this to Veritas. Because to love was treated a weakness, something that could kill him in an instant. But if that was what love was, then he welcomed that and if she wanted, he would welcome her to start a life with him. There was a moment she was frozen because Kesil being sappy is always a Time. But she quickly gets it and drops down to hug him and say yes. 

Do they want kids? Who brought it up first?

Again, at this point, they don’t. However would like to. But this hurdle is a bit longer. They don’t have great building blocks for parenthood. Veritas was abandoned by her parents and Kesil was treated poorly by his. There is a bit of reluctance because they wouldn’t want their kid to end up like how they are. It really isn’t them that brought it up so much as their mother-like figure, Lyudmila. 

Do they already have kids, together or from previous relationships?

Nope. Although there are kids already thought of. There are the twins, Roza and Blair, who have the scent of a pureblood but have an elf ability. About 3-4 years younger than them is Magnus, who is a mixed blood and having the abilities is less strange. They all have their own thing that drives their parents up the wall but none of them could say that their parents do not love them. 

Do they have any routines/rituals in their relationship?

Not particularly. Their work is so sporadic that getting down a complete routine is impossible. However it is established that Kesil will rise earlier no matter what. And give quiet giving of beverages. It really doesn’t matter what but it is something that is just done as a small gesture. Oh and guess Kesil finding some way to put his annoying charm to work. Poor Veritas knows no peace.

How do they take care of each other when they are sick/hurt?

With a lot of patience and firm hands. Because they are the WORST patients. Be it the insistence on not being sick or that the injury isn’t ‘that bad,’ they are awful at taking to rest. As a result, the other has be just as stubborn and the one to put a foot down to make them settle down. And will the patient make it easy for them? Absolutely not.

How do they like to spend time together?

Depends really. They can do slow paced stuff like just taking walks or going out for food or something. But by their nature, they like to do something more exciting like sparring. They also have taken to doing things like paintball since laser tag went...terribly (the light and noise sensitivity was not fun).

What are their favourite non-sexual forms of intimacy?

General proximity with each other is good enough for them but Kesil does like playing with Veritas’ hair. They also just are not guarded with each other. Like they can fall asleep on each other or not end up disturbed if focused on something because they are assured by the other’s presence. So they don’t need to be on the ready. 

What are some of their favourite things about their partner?

There are things to like about each other? Absolutely kidding but that is what it could come off to someone that doesn’t know them. Veritas while she might not always understand his antics, does like the levity Kesil brings. And I think she also really appreciates how unabashed he is. About himself, about his interactions with others and how he is with her. It doesn’t hurt that he can physically challenge her and more than happy to do so. 

‘I like a woman that can kick my ass’ is Kesil all day. So she has that down. But he also is very amused by teasing her and her reactions to his shenanigans. Even if it isn’t good on his end. But he does love her resolve and that she can do what is right to her no matter what. No one’s input can sway her and Kesil really does admire that about her. 

How do they comfort the other when they are upset?

They actually usually are pretty quiet. Not because they do not care but because it is a pretty big deal for either of them to get visibly upset. And a lot of times letting the other feel what they’re going through is lot of relief. But while it is not, Kesil and Veritas do have some view of weakness in showing how they feel so neither downplay it when this comes around. Instead they provide shoulder to lean on, a hand to hold, just a silent support through the time. 

Who buys the other spontaneous gifts?

Kesil. Both because he’d just find something that he’d think Veritas would like or be fun to try to present to her and because he is a bit less concerned with money due to his job. 

What position do they sleep in?

Hm. Hard to say. I wouldn’t say they spoon every night but often enough and who is big spoon usually depends on who is last in bed. But they don’t move around much either way since their training has them more still. Although Veritas does tend to have the blankets more often as Kesil honestly hardly needs them even if he complains about the temp.  

Do they bathe/shower together?

Y’know I have always wondered how they broached this topic. Because it could’ve been funny or growing pains, no real in between. But I don’t see them bathing together often. Usually either for actual cutting down on time or for occasional bouts or randiness. But for most part...nah.

Do they do anything else in the bath/shower other than wash?

Nope, pragmatists in this aspect of just washing and getting out. Only reason it takes Veritas longer is because she has a lot of hair. 

In the bedroom - Vanilla, a little spice, or kinky af?

They’re like a compote a la mode. They can get a little spicy but are pretty vanilla. Like they could end up looking like they came from a fight. But that’s when they’re really riled. For the most part, they aren’t terribly interesting in bed. That sounds bad but it’s not. It’s just...average I guess?

What is their favourite sex position?

I would say that Veritas would be more of cowgirl since it gives her more control of the situation and she’d be lying if it wasn’t a little hot to have Kesil under her.  As for Kesil, I would say it’s planking or flat iron, idk, there’s a different names. Just like right on top of each other because he likes being a little more intimate with her. Kisses and easy access to get that gasp out of her. 

Do either of them enjoy bringing sex toys into the bedroom?

Not really? I don’t see either really liking them tbh?

Favourite place to have sex?

Their bedroom. I’m so sorry, they really are exactly what you think for sexy time. Veritas finds something that works and is good with that. Kesil has tried more adventurous things but experience tied with them, he isn’t enthused for doing them again. 

Most adventurous place they’ve had sex?

Probably out in the woods. I would say the roof or in a high rise but Veritas does NOT want to be seen by anyone. So I would say out in the great outdoors is probably the most adventurous. 

How often do they fight? What about?

Not often. Maybe because they’ve had enough turbulence in their daily that picking a fight with the other is not a thing. But because of the dangerous nature as a bounty hunter and a mercenary, there is the concern of safety. I would say Kesil causes those problems more often than not because he is a reckless person. Which only worries Veritas because what if something is good enough to take him out? It is an argument that has cropped up a handful of times but it never has resolution because Kesil is not going to just stop his job because it’s dangerous. And it’s not like she would want him to stop doing what he likes but that he should care for himself too.

Have they ever broken up?

No. And not for lack of trying on the muns part. They are just too in tune with each other to get to that point. Even at their worst, breaking up was never a thought in their head. It took a LOT for them to let the other in so it means a lot to Veritas and Kesil. They wouldn’t give up easily. Now whether or not they should? I mean, from an outsiders’ perspective they can look menacing with each other or that they don’t like each other. But really, that’s just how they are? Y’know? But yeah, never have broken up. Doubt it would happen too.

Messy breakup, amicable split, remain friends, ride or die or til death do us part?

They are ride or dies. Like if the world was the other’s enemy, they’d make THE WORLD their enemy. And it’s actually usually not in a very ‘loud’ sort of way. It’s just like the silent draw of their weapon or sliding their hand in to the other’s. It their presence to remain that they can continue on. Although there is an issue of ‘til death do us part.’ Kesil is essentially immortal although he has yet to live a lifetime. Veritas is not and she does not want Kesil to get reckless after she is gone. So it’s a question of if she somehow gains that immortality or he loses his. Cause hoo boy, it gets messy if it’s one goes before the other.

This episode was pretty interesting? But I felt like I was...waiting for something that didn’t quite happen? I suppose this was another build-up episode, though. Bringing back Aurora and doing the body swapping storyline is very bold and I’m looking forward to all the chaos that will bring! Man I need to rewatch s3+ of the Originals....

I am vibing a lot with the Hosie stuff we’re getting these past few episodes, Methan are adorable as usual, Finsie are also very cute although I feel like they’re gonna break up soon?

Honestly, right now, the two most compelling characters to watch are probably Tribrid!Hope and Lizzie. I can’t fully explain it right now but Lizzie’s approach to the Hope situation feels the most realistic for her character and it’s nice seeing someone take a different approach that’s causing it’s own brand of conflict and complexity.

🔪 KNIFE - how do they react to injury / misfortune befalling their loved ones (significant other, family, friends)? do they put themselves at blame?

Their first reaction is to try and distract the person involved so they don’t think about it so much, then they will try to help - if it’s an injury. Dei is unsurprisingly very good at treating things and taking care of injuries /ailments so they’ll attempt to help. If it’s just misfortune or bad luck it’s met with a grimace of ‘shit that sucks, sorry’ and that’s about it. It’s a 50/50 of if they blame themselves though. Is the injury from something outside the Court? Then no. Is it from Mad? Then yes, they will, since with they’ve realized with no small resentment they’re sort of the scapegoat/outlet for the kennelmaster’s anger. And maybe they could have picked up on something sooner to vent his dipshitery elsewhere.

💐 BOUQUET - create a bouqet for them! what do those flowers mean? are any of the flowers their particular favourite?

Purple Hyacinth, firstly! No surprise there. The flowers meaning sorrow and related to forgiveness. Also Anemones, which are a beautiful flower with a gloomy meaning of expectations being not met and being forsaken. Gladiolus also makes me think of them, since they having the meaning of having a strong character despite difficulties (it can also mean ‘oh give me a break’ which is ironic and amusing). Also - ferns! Which have ties to sincerity and magic, as well as shelter. And lastly, the white heather flower - which can represent protection and wishes coming true bc gdi I WILL get them something resembling happy when all is said and done.

They don't really have a favorite flower but if they had to pick among these I think they'd like the anemone just because it's pretty but not showy.

💢 ANGER - what are some habits they have that will take some getting used to?

This one stumped me for a while. Because Dei is hyper vigilant to not come across as annoying or frustrating. Even pre-NM they were careful to monitor how they reacted and responded so that people (mainly their previous friends) would not get fed up with them. So honestly, I think that Dei's tendency to deflect and even directly lie to avoid causing conflict or raising concern would be the hardest to deal with. Unlike some of my kids who physically cannot keep what they actually feel and think hidden, Dei's default has always been to hide.

Legislation and social change as a result of violent action is nothing new. Netlfix, seriously, just go ahead and announce season 2 because we ALL want it. I NEED it so badly just, do it do it do it.

In all seriousness, as for as YA book adaptation, this is top notch if not the best adaptation I've seen. The cast was A+, nailing the characters so beautifully and bringing life to some that I really didn't fully appreciate in the books. Specifically Archie with Mal, credits to him and the writers (and Leigh) for really working to make him a stronger, fully developed character. It was so well done and I am really rooting for them more so than I was in the books.

Crow wise. Brilliant. Absolutely fucking brilliant. Kit, Freddy, Amita, Danielle, Calahan; literally the most perfect casting. Period. I was so incredibly nervous when the show was announced how casting would go for the crows. They're my favorites, ones that I really treasured and when I tell you just the cast photo I had a feeling this was going to go well. Well was an understatement. I was absolutely blown away by how well they nailed the Crows. The humor, the small gestures, the teasing and comments; absolutely perfect. I have only one complaint, the same as Kit: GIVE ME WYLAN!!!

Also,Jessie as Alina, round of applause as well. I didn't mind her character in the book, but in the show I felt more connected and really was cheering for her and I have to give that to Jessie. Like Archie, she did a great job bringing the character to life and making her enjoyable, more fully developed tbh. I don't even need to go into Ben because I despise the Darkling as much as I did in the books so I'd say he was fucking brilliant.

The fact their budget was limited, they somehow was able to create a world so beautiful so incredibly well done and oddly inviting. The costumes, the sets, even the Fold looked nearly inviting. It all seemed so well done, so well put together and as I imagined it for the most part. The display of Grisha power was not corny but subtle and well created, not overdone like some like to do. It was believable and so cool to see displayed on tv.

Honest to god this is, to me at least, by far the best YA book adaptation in a long, LONG time. This coming from a HP, Twilight, Series of Unfortunate Events fan. I've seen YA books fail so badly (Euragon, ugh the heartbreak of that disaster) or just, be so flat it hurts...looking at you Twilight. Some having a cast that just, despises the entire book and movie all together, others so well connected and done so brilliantly only for the story to be torn to bits in some parts that you're left wondering if you read the same book at times (HP, never forgive you for that final battle scene, wtf was even that??). But for real, this had the perfect cast, perfect sets & editing, amazing music, fantastic writing to piece it all together and overall was just...absolutely amazing. Definitely going to be something I rewatch over and over and over again till the next season.

My views on ‘The Untamed 陈情令’

I never thought I would write a review on a drama although I have watched a lot of dramas of different genres for about 15/16 years. There is something about ‘The Untamed’ that made me want to write a review or at least write out my feelings. I’m not going to write too deep and get into all the details. But I guess this could be a way for me to get out of this trap or try to get it off my chest. 

I’m not a fan of the original novel (well, not yet) as I don’t like reading so I haven’t read it yet. However, I have decided to read it as I have finished the drama and couldn’t get over it no matter how much I want to escape from it. 

Trust me, I don’t usually get THIS attached to a drama or any characters, I mean yeah, the casts are handsome and all, but I stayed for the plot and the characters, not just the good looks of those actors. Especially if it’s 50 episodes long, I wouldn’t stay for someone’s visuals like I ain’t got time for that – I can just watch the cuts of that actor lol. I’m quite picky because I have seen A LOT of dramas, if I watch 2 episodes and it bores me then bye and I don't like long dramas. But after the 50 episodes, I felt so empty like I wanted more??? I know that's normal since I have experienced that before but this time was slightly different.

I personally think everyone portrayed their characters very well, despite most of them are young actors/ actresses. I usually skip or play supporting characters’ parts in 1.5 speed if they’re not as interesting as the main characters. But they kept me riveted throughout the entire drama, I didn’t skip one bit. Most characters hit me at some point during the drama, and I loved it (while shedding buckets of tears haha). 

Apart from WWX and LWJ, my FAVORITE character is Jiang Yan Li - notice how I capitalized the word and it's in bold, that’s how much I loved her. She’s the best shijie/ sister that anyone could ask for. I feel like she’s WWX’s half mother, she takes care of him. She is a gentle and polite woman. She isn’t powerful in the Cultivation World (she mainly just focused on cooking tbh lol it's cute tho) but she doesn’t hesitate to protect WWX. She stood up for him even in front of her future mother-in-law, she trusted him until the end even when everyone went against him, and when her parents got killed, she didn’t blame him (it wasn’t his fault anyway) and eventually sacrificed her life for him. Her death was just so tragic like I was bawling my eyes out, she didn’t deserve it, she really didn’t. She was just a simple girl that wanted the best for her family. But she is the last straw that broke the camel’s back aka WWX, if she didn’t die for him, he probably wouldn’t get out of control. It was so cruel to WWX but I kind of understand why the author did it. 

I also enjoyed the cinematography, scenery and OST, all of it was so astounding. Even the name of the locations were beautiful like 云深不知处 – it sounds so poetic. I loved how each sect had their own colors which reflected their characteristics in the Cultivation World. The characters also had their own OST, my favorite ones are Wen Ning’s & Jiang Yan Li’s songs – it still hurts when I listen to them, and I nearly cried few times (yes, I have a soft spot for Wen Ning, too.) I want to add that Jiang Yan Li & Jin Zi Xuan's song hurts a lot as well, the lyrics are like a fucking knife stabbing me in the chest. I thought I was strong enough to watch the MV, but I couldn't control my tears gdi. You know when you're cutting onions and tears just streaming down your face, that's what happened to me - except there were no onions.  *I was a fan of the singer when I was younger so watching him singing the song on the stage also took me back to the old days ah~ This song gave me double feels lol ;~; 

A part of me regrets that I didn’t watch it last year but a part of me is thankful that I finally got to watch it this year. It was already a hot topic before it even aired in China, so of course I have heard about it and I know briefly what it is based on. But I didn’t want to jump on the bandwagon and be like I’m a huge fan of the drama just because it’s popular (it’s hard to explain but I’m quite stubborn sometimes lol). Many said that you wouldn’t understand the story or the little details in the drama if you haven’t read the novel (I watched the animation before the drama, so I know a bit of the story). I don’t like reading anyway so I didn’t bother with it. Also, the genre of the novel isn’t something that I would read so that’s another reason why I left it. I’m not against any type of love, I just feel a bit iffy about reading it, which is kind of stupid now that I think about it lol. Another reason is that I don’t like depressing dramas, I used to watch a lot of those in my younger days, most of the plots are quite cliche. Although 'The Untamed' is sad, there were sweet, happy moments and it has a happy ending, so I loved it.

A lot of people didn’t like the ending, but I think it was a good ending. I mean they can’t really do much as they have to pass the censorship. My interpretation of the ending is that LWJ went to sort out everything in the Cultivation World so that he could be with (or protect) WWX later. He found WWX (maybe a few years) later and called WWX’s name. In that scene, WWX’s black outfit is different to when they parted, so it can’t be LWJ came back to WWX right after they went separate ways – that would very irresponsible to do since he is the Chief Cultivator. It’s an open-ended ending, so it’s up to the audience’s imagination, you can interpret it however you like. The camera didn’t show LWJ at the end so it could also be WWX imagined that LWJ called his name. But I believe that they got together, you can just tell just by looking at WWX’s facial expressions. It isn’t that difficult to figure it out, the novel has a happy ending so yeah. I also read it somewhere that when LWJ went to meet up with WWX, he also changed his outfit but apparently that part didn't pass the censorship (wtf?) so maybe that's why they didn't show LWJ at the end. 

I guess the good thing is that I can’t get all the related merch, if I watched it last year, I would definitely ask one of my relatives to buy and send everything over for me lmao goodbye my money. But I would buy the physical novel when I get the chance. If a drama left a big impact on me, I would buy the novel (if it has one of course).

I think I need a long cool-off period after this drama, I don’t want to watch anything else except their bts, interviews (even supporting actors’ interviews, I usually don’t watch those), crack videos lol, variety shows, fan meeting – basically everything that I can find, I don't think I have watched everything though. When I watched a cut of the cast saying goodbye to their characters on the fan meeting, I cried again (ffs just get over it). It’s definitely one of the best dramas I’ve ever watched and would definitely recommend to those who likes Chinese dramas. Not that anyone cares, but I would rate it 9/10 (if shijie was alive, I would give another 0.5 lol). I don’t know how good the subtitles are, but I did see some odd bits here and there (I watched it without the English subtitles). Sometimes it’s really hard to translate Chinese especially when it’s a xianxia drama – making it even more difficult. Anyway, if I get to finish reading the novel, I might write my views on the novel if I can be bothered lol – I’m a very lazy person XD

I kind of want to write another post just about WWX and LWJ, and how good Xiao Zhan & Yibo’s acting skills were. Basically, complimenting them for 2 pages haha. Ngl, I did fell for Xiao Zhan. I might watch it again just to focus on them a bit more. From the interviews I have seen, Xiao Zhan seems like a very humble, kind, genuine person – you can just tell from his eyes. He’s definitely a treasure boy (硬翻'宝藏男孩'). I don’t think I need to say much about Yibo, he’s super talented, I was already a fan of UNIQ when they were active. The character really suited Yibo and he did a great job portraying LWJ.

Anyway, it’s time for me to say goodbye to 'The Untamed', I don’t know how long I will feel attached to this drama but hopefully there’s another masterpiece that could help me to get over it.

...gdi, I watch too many stupid medical dramas and I keep imagining a scenario where in a Draxum/Jitsu Fam truce (reluctant or otherwise) one of the Turts gets hurt - not life-threatening but still pretty serious - or gets appendicitis or w/e, something that needs surgery, and since Draxum is the only legit doctor there (Donnie knows a lot but he doesn’t know everything, and even if he did he’d kiiiiinda be emotionally compromised working on one of his bros) he has to do the surgery.

Of course Splinter is mildly freaking out despite Draxum’s insistence that the surgery shouldn’t have any complications (and when he’s not freaking out he’s threatening Draxum, telling him not to try anything while he’s got one of his kids under the knife), but while Draxum is annoyed he can’t exactly blame him. The worst Splinter has ever dealt with is colds, fevers, mild concussions and broken bones (which he’d probably know how to set, given his training, so no big deal at all). Besides, he’s still a father, it’s only natural to be worried.

Thankfully, the surgery is a success and Draxum quickly goes to share the news with Splinter, telling him that while it may take a month or so, his son will no doubt make a full recovery. And Splints just kinda stands there while Draxum explains the recovery process, to the point where Draxum feels like he has to ask Splints if he’s actually listening-

And then Splinter hugs him.

Draxum is completely frozen, shocked into silence while Splinter continues to hug him, quietly mumbling a “Thank you...” Draxum isn’t sure how long they stand there like that - somewhere between a few seconds and an eternity - but Splinter eventually lets him go and goes to check on his son, not bothering to ask permission to do so. He never brings up the hug, never sharing the moment with his other sons when they visit their brother and basically acting like it never happened, and Draxum does the same. 

Though, when he allows himself to remember, he’ll only admit to himself that... it was a pretty nice moment, all things considered.

Just finished watching a walkthrough of Tales of Zestiria, and I must say it is as HYPE as its opening.

My favourite parts:

Sorey and Mikleo bickering — actually, every sormik scene

I swear 99.9% of Mikleo revolves around Sorey, the other 0.1% is him getting teased by everyone (this could be his biggest writing strength and flaw depending on who you ask)

The different branching routes you can take in Ladylake. Sell the knife? The pipe? Don’t sell both? Sell the pipe later on to get a cool hat as well? How do you enter the Sacred Blade ceremony? YOU CAN CHOOSE

The whole ‘we’re married’ scene when they get to Rolance, and the whole joke of Sergei continuing to think Rose and Sorey are married

How do we explore the dark elements in this game by showing how people in Age of Chaos possess immense malevolence in their hearts and align it to the main story, and then went, Got it. Assassins. (Story of how Shepherd Sorey went gallivanting around with a princess *cough cough redactedbecauseshedoesn’texistinthegame* and an assassin~~)

Overall a happy ending for Sorey and friends which is GREAT

Overall I must say the Zestiria cast is awesome, I really like all the characters and how they are fleshed out very neatly with their own quirks and goals. Edna being god tier with her monotone sarcasm (she is QUEEN....), Zaveid being that dumbass that looks like a stripper (HIM.... baby...), Mikleo being ultimate waifu and how his comedic moments shine with Edna and everyone else when he’s being teased, Sorey being so pure and cute when he geeks out with Mikleo and how his character arc is just such a refreshing take on the hero archetype, Dezel with his stoicness Imma Get Revenge but also his cast knowledge and love for animals, Rose for exploring the side of reality in the malevolence in people’s hearts and her :3 smile and her determination to get things done and how she’s so different from Sorey which only brings out her charm, Lailah with her awful puns and eccentricity and quiet compassion. And uh, Alisha for being the bait-and-switch heroine but a decent character with her own personal goals that are separate from the main character. Sergei and Lucas are also very lovable.

As for the setting, Rolance and Hyland as two kingdoms seem a little small scale compared to lets say if they added one more kingdom, but seeing as this is a 2015 game I think the exploration map is pretty good (then I compare to Xenoblade Chronicles which came out in 2010 and just change the subject). Love the outside game mechanics Giant’s Fist, Wind Stepping and Water Shield (when Mikleo protects Sorey with that!!! And Sorey calls him out by saying he’s been practicing it for a long time... And you recall every time Mikleo asks Dezel and the other older seraphim to teach him stuff so he can get stronger to help Sorey and how 99.9% of his character revolves around Sorey). ‘That spinny mist thing sure gets the job done’ haha. 

Anyway, great game and plot, please go check out if you have time, esp rn since animes and other games coming out will be stalled it is a great time to check out older games aaaaaaa
