I've been off school for 3 days but I literally feel so shitty so don't wanna go tmr ughhhhhhh :((
I have sm to dooooo but I can't bring myself to do any of the actual 'important' stuff (school work, puppet work, getting a job-) I'm so tired

DevLog 2 - The Devining
well. it only took 3 months. but here is our new devlog! or however you call it... We did write a whole devlog for early march, but with school and work taking up most of our schedule, we did not post it, and most of our progress fell to the sands of time.

Yeah I didn't do nearly as much as freep, so most of those changes will be down there. part of the reason though is that ive been doing a lot of work on my music (haha yes self promo) so if you want to check that out it'd be great! (most of yall are just from my acc so you probably alr know) (my current style of music is probably not representative of O2's audio style or vibe, still working towards that)
The main thing I did was improve trenchbroom (level editor)/qodot/godot interop, which can bring us closer to building some levels (and who knows, a little alpha test in the future ;)). It was actually realllyyyy annoying due to a lack of documentation for qodot 4 (and also ill admit it, a bit of my stupidity) so there was a bug that I couldn't fix for a long time but eventually it was fixed and now it works great!
I also started looking more into the art style of the game, and I'm even learning a bit of how to draw (thanks to my friends! I wouldn't be able to learn like at all without them lol).

Back in march, i spent a lot of time working on the AI, getting it to move… and run away, sort of. But more of that will come later.
Lots of these last week or so has been on the character controller, and reinventing the wheel to introduce a state machine and get a lot cleaner code so its easier to revisit if we ever had to.
Im proud of the work that we've done so far, as we come close to a prototype with *Gameplay*
New Things
Changed the look of the enemy slightly to remove the “amongus factor”
Rewrote the entire script for nav pathing
New enemy prototype can now feel pain / has a health pool that can be depleted using bullets from the player
Added a new line of sight for the enemy to check whether or not the player is in the area to follow
Added the ability for the enemy to hide - WIP - enemy can hide but isnt very good at it. Kinda like a child who turns away while hiding in the corner.
Enemy can also detect when youre in a certain range, I will be adding more flags later on for detection (when the player shoots, sneezes, or explodes on accident)
New testing map!
New areas for target practice, line of sight testing, following and hiding
New player character controller!
Rewrote the entire script for the inclusion of State machines
This was painful.
Added 6(?) new states for several movement states
Added animations for
Walking
Running
Jumping
Crouching
Fixed the stair problem

i tried manifestation for over a year and i feel like anti neville goddard people are right, even tho i still believe, i don't know. Nothing works
I'm not understanding what you're saying...you say you feel like the law doesn't work and that nothing works yet at the same time say you still believe in the law??? If you truly believed in the law it would be absolutely impossible for you to feel like you shouldn't believe it because "nothing works". Of course there's nothing wrong with feeling that way and that's fine.
You are viewing the law of assumption as if it's a one and done deal. The law is literal in works all the time 24/7 regardless if you're conscious in it or not or if you believe in it or not. There was a time I blindly believed in the law but would backtrack my belief on it until I went within myself thinking of all the things I once assumed in my imagination, they're all in my 3d right now playing right in front of me as we speak.
I literally manifested my family moving into a new home in the exact house that I once imagined and I didn't even realize it until I went into the house and I was living out that assumption in the physical world. May I remind you, the only thing I wanted was to simply move out of my own home because I wanted my own space. Though it's not in its entirety, it still manifested because it all falls under the assumption that me and my family moved into a much nicer place. I did that without affirming or doing methods 24/7 and all that extra bs. I only simply imagined and decided.
I feel those that don't understand Nevilles teachings either 1: they interpret Neville words through the lenses of ppl on tumblrs manifestation experiences. Or 2: they "apply" his word then when "nothing shows up" they call it fake and not real. Not saying that that's what you're doing but this is just in general.
Have I manifested the much more "bigger" things I've wanted yet? No I haven't. But that doesn't justify that the law nor Neville teachings aren't in some way true. I know this because I've consciously manifested many other things by actually applying Neville work. Do I tend to overcomplicate and self savatoge? Yes yes I do. But does that mean manifestation doesn't work/work for me? No no it doesn't.
I'll tell you like I told another: if you truly believe in the law then apply it. If you don't or if another's words sways your belief in the law then leave it alone and respectfully live your life on as if you never even found out about the law and act as if it never even existed. Of course 9/10 that probably won't be the safest route because you've already gained all this knowledge about the law just for you to throw it all away. Idk about you but if I had the information of knowing that I could change my reality all by imagination alone, it'd be pretty fuckin hard for me to just forget about that let alone letting it go.
The problem isnt the law nor its teachings, its all these rules you all have placed upon it to make you feel like its workin all because you either lack or no true faith in your power to actually apply the law consciously and manifest what you desire. The law doesn't state if your affirm x amount of times, visualize x amount of times or as vividly, script til your fingers fall off, do every method that you see hoping it'll work for it to manifest in 3d and- no. The law states, assume that you already have/are what you want to be. Not later, not a minute from now nor 2 days from now but RIGHT NOW assume that you ALREADY are what you want to be. Though false, if persisted on it will harden into fact.
I've been in the manifestation community since I was 11 years old and have been in loa community for about 3-4 years now. Maybe a little longer. After all these years I still hadn't manifested my dream life yet but I have no one to blame but myself for that because not only did I not fully apply the law but I've procrastinated and self sabatoged by constantly going back and forth between believing and not believing in the law even after I've manifested some things by actually using the law consciously. Im about to be 18 years old this year, all this time I've been here I could've been left the community, could've no longer believed and bashed every loa blog anywhere screaming from the top of my lungs how this is all just some weird spiritual cult that everybody is just pretending about there success stories and they're all just lying. But I didn't. And even if I did, being bitter and envious of others successes regardless if they're real or not still wouldn't change my situation nor would it make me any better and just make me more bitter.
My point I'm making is, if you know you've been actually applying the law and not half assing, actually being persistent and consistent, not letting the 3d dictate what you do and don't have, trusting on your imagination, turning to your imagination every. Single. Time you feel you don't have what you want, actually having faith in what you've imagined EVEN WHEN YOU DONT SEE YOUR DESIRES IN 3D. Then by all means I understand if you like others are anti Neville and don't believe in his work or in the law and I 100% have no judgement or criticism towards you if that is how you feel. However, I'd like for you to strictly and I mean strictly go to Neville teachings just one more time. If you feel his wordings is too complicated for the moment, I suggest listening to his infamous Barbados story, watch a simplified version of "how to manifest" by Neville Goddard and to listen to Edward art. The best vids to start with are "how to imagine", "you are in Barbados", "believe I have" and finally his Edward art series if you're still interested though I suggest reading it on reddit since I think it's completed there. I want you to take notes on everything that catches your attention and also the most important things in the video. If you still don't feel confident enough in applying the knowledge you gained from your notes to your desires, I recommend doing Neville ladder experiment. Edward art has a video posted on it on how to do it you can apply it from there.

makorra were compatible with each other (korrasami has no real compatibility without korra being ooc
the notion that makorra breaking up in b2 means they could never work is idiotic ( neither of them would have worked with anyone they broke up due to mutual flaws that led to them breaking up flaws which they overcame by book 4 ( its korra and asami who couldnt work out without korra bieng ooc in the last 2 minutes
makorra is more comparable to kataang ( and mako showed that he could support korra the way she needed it asami didnt
I have seen people try to go well mako told raiko he did the right thing the notion that he should have just went along with korras plans when the only issue was that he didnt speak up sooner ( which is his problem he holds things in too much till they get to the breaking point he should have confronted korra much sooner) you can be sympathetic to korras issue and acknowledge that korra was in the wrong trying to take another countrys military away
(mako sees korra the person asami only sees the avatar)
makorra is far more comparable to kataang then zutara ( mako has the same position in krew he supports korra like katara supported aang , etc and is the talented bender) katara and mako both had some jerk moments and their flaws acknowledged and treated as such i feel korrasami was only popular because of desire for lgbt rep and the irrational hate for mako so they shipped it to spite and punish mako for daring to have flaws which had led to asami getting hurt when mako didnt do anything that required punishment
his flaws and mistakes were acknowledged as such bryke already handling his flaws and issues the way they needed to be people over reacted due to asami getting hurt
sorry but korrasami is more comparable to zutara the popular same sex ship that was popular despite not having a basis in canon
they had to twist the most minor moments to claim evidence along with piling up headcanons to try and claim a moment its evidence
the claim that korra chose asami to help her in b3 finale when that has no basis
and korra only smiled with her father and air babies and bolin when she was in that state
or claiming korra and asami sent each other letters for years when there was only one letter sent
and it doesnt mean korra is closer to asami ( korra sent one letter to vent and put a sense of closeness ( saying that korra sent the letter to someone she isnt concerned about makes way more sense)
while mako talked about korra the person asami in remembrances went youre the avatar we need you which was a failure tenzin needed to comein and bring up korra the person and how she grew as a person
while mako supported korra the way she needed to be supported in the episode where they went to confront zaheer ( while asami did nothing ) which adds to the list of many reasons korrasami was a last minute retcon. censors wouldnt have prevented them from interacting or bonding or showing a close relationship in anyway

It’s not directly stated, but I think reading between the lines of the letter itself and Korra’s explanation of it makes it seem unlikely that she sent more than one:
“Dear Asami, I’m sorry I haven’t written to you sooner, but every time I’ve tried, I never know what to say. The past two years have been the hardest of my life. Even though I can get around fine now, I still can’t go into the Avatar State. I keep having visions of Zaheer and what happened that day. Katara thinks a lot of this is in my head, so I’ve been meditating a lot, but sometimes I worry I’ll never fully recover. Please don’t tell Mako and Bolin I wrote to you and not them. I don’t want to hurt their feelings, but it’s easier to tell you about this stuff. I don’t think they’d understand.”
The thing to note here is that Korra feels guilty about not writing to Mako and Bolin and says she doesn’t want to hurt their feelings, but seems to feel the need to tell someone about her fears. Considering the circumstances, continuing to write to Asami in spite of that guilt doesn’t make much sense.
She doesn’t really offer any room for a back-and-forth discussion in her letter, in any case — she’s treating it as a confessional rather than as an opportunity to talk. It seems more like she’s trying to explain why she hasn’t been able to respond than opening a conversation.
The other part of it is this:
“I wrote to Asami while I was away. I asked her not to tell you. I’m sorry.”
I feel like, if Korra wanted to keep up a continuous conversation with Asami, the request not to tell Mako and Bolin about it would have been phrased differently (“Please don’t tell Mako and Bolin I’m writing to you and not them” rather than “I wrote”) as would the explanation (“I sent letters to Asami while I was away”).
Instead, “wrote” is in the past tense in both cases, instead of something less ambiguously repetitive, and the second one mirrors the first, which is clearly only talking about the present letter.
It’s also important to remember that there isn’t much time for her to keep up a conversation even if she wanted to do so — she went off the grid within a few months of the letter, and international mail isn’t exactly instant.

shippers try to claim they couldnt show more because of censors but censorship but as fantastic-nonsense put it

the difference is that bryke broke the narrative to force korrasami in at the last minute
and zutara got actual moments and interactions which would say that they are close to one another
( to be frank toph x katara makes more sense then korrasami
korrasami being the only same sex ship in lok doesnt mean you are homophobic or dont care about the lgbt community if you dont ship it or say it shouldnt have happened good writing is more important then representation
good writing and not having a forced ship where you throw away narrative and two characters make no sense to be with each other is more important then filling a quota or publicity stunt. its more important then the genders involved ina ship
if they wanted to have a show with a same sex ship then make another show with a same sex ship canon with actual buildup etc
like say given that they are making another avatar series they could have not done korrasami and waited for the next avatar series to have a avatar in a same sex ship which would have actual buildup
anyone who trys to go there are tons of shows with a het ship being canon are the people who ship something based on the genders involved not the people criticizing korrasami if they try to go but there are tons of shows with het ships being canon as if its relevant to legend of korra they have no place to complain about queerbaiting or say a het ship is forced.

Because Korra’s relationship with Mako is the only one she had that offered her the sort of support that she needed in that situation.
None of Korra’s other friends or mentors has as much trust and faith in Korra as Mako does. Asami’s support is a bit too insistent and she worries a bit too much for her to have done what Mako did and stepped back when Korra asked. Bolin is… Bolin. He’s good at cheering people up, but he’s not the one to rely on when humor isn’t called for. Even Tenzin couldn’t have taken Mako’s role, because he’d let Korra’s long recovery get to him.
Mako, in contrast, was able to let go when Korra needed him to do so. Korra needed to confront Zaheer on her own, and she needed to do so without having to talk her moral support down from coming in with her. Mako was the only one who could fill that role.
Anonymous asked: About Korra's letter to Asami and whether or not it's about Asami meaning more to Korra than anyone else: when I lost someone I cared about years ago, one of the first people I told about it was somebody who was a good friend but not one of my closest ones. This person had also lost someone and dealt with it strongly, especially for someone her age, and I knew she would understand without getting too gushy about it. It wasn't about who I "cared about more" and it definitely wasn't romantic!

It makes a lot of sense, doesn’t it? If you’re dealing with something difficult and uncomfortable, talking to someone who understands (or seems likely to understand) the specific situation does a lot more good than talking to whoever you feel closest to and hoping they’ll respond in a way that actually helps.
Just because you’re closer to/romantically interested in someone doesn’t mean they’re going to be the one with all the answers. As such, the idea that going to one particular friend for answers about something very difficult implies closeness or romantic interest just… doesn’t really comport with reality. =/

can you explain the Be More Psychic AU?
ill try my best !!! its, uh. its snowballed a lot from what it was, so here we go
be more chill SQUIPS, but psychonauts. more detailed under cut
at some point in the distant past, otto invented these things called PSI-SQUIPS, cause everything has a psi-prefix and leeping the SQUIP name makes it recognizeable. essentially, theyre similar to astralathes, in that theyre psychic devices to help you alter parts of yourself. though these are more "personal trainers" in that respect, rather than directly altering things, they implant in your mind and guide and direct you. still, not necessarily safe, and the idea was eventually abandoned. not before they were stocked in the otto-matic, hidden beneath layers of security and a high price. the notes for how to access them were lost amongst the notes in an old lab
cut to sometime during psychonauts 2. gisu, otto's mentee, is tasked with cleaning one of his old labs. while cleaning it, she finds these notes. she decides to investigate at some point, for science. at some point she activates one, using it on herself. it seems to be helpful, so maybe she tells morris about it. it couldnt hurt, right? i mean, this thing has really helped her with her focus.
flash forward post psychonauts 2. its been a couple months, the aquatos have been staying in the QA for a while, and things have settled into a new normal. a couple of the interns have been acting a little weird, but its probably nothing, right? i mean, trauma. thats probably it. dion hasnt apologized to raz for her shitty treatment of him, and generally has been going through it. it may have been a month or two or more, but the revelations are still hitting hard, and everyones recovering slowly. dion wants nothing more than to be a better sibling, better child, but... they dont know how.
and norma's been acting awfully sweet. dions met her a couple times before, and she was usually so... bitter. but now, sickeningly sweet. lizzie says shes been a better sister recently... dion is desperate. she wants to know how norma did it.
the PSI-SQUIP spreads.
dion asks it to help her be a better sister, brother, daughter, son. it instructs her. "cause no problems. listen to your parents, dont bother them, dont defy them. apologize to raz." "how? ive been so awful... where do i begin?"
gisu is seeing the effect its having on her friends all around her. oh god, this is getting out of hand. she asks her PSI-SQUIP, the leader, how to stop it. silly gisu. you cant.
in the meantime, siblings can tell something is off. dion is acting... wrong. they were already a bit of a "yes man" for mom and dad, but now... its. its hard to explain. somethings... somethings wrong. something is wrong. dion has a conversation with frazie at some point, about how "i have this thing that could help you feel better!" "about what?" "anything!" ...frazies not buyin it. she politely declines. okay, whatever. if frazie doesnt want her big brothers advice, too bad. its time to say youre sorry. time to find raz
it turns out, norma had already issued an apology of her own. dion is fed the script, an apology raz finds... eerily familiar. raz approaches the senior agents with his concerns. they say theyll help, but seem... dismissive. he also tells lili about his worries, and the two decide to investigate together.
raz and lili go to otto, gisu, anyone who isnt infected with... whatever this is. they start trying to find a solution
hollis is planning something. an event, of sorts? who knows the specifics, its not important. probably
dion, meanwhile, feels as though she screwed up worse somehow. following a script? really? the PSI-SQUIP is condescending, try again then it says. yeah. no. dion is tasked with talking to augustus. (a valid host)
gisu tries to resist. this has gone too far. poor gisu. it has only just begun
raz, lili, and their little resistance have a plan. otto will activate a PSI-SQUIP, take it down from the inside. it doesnt work, theyve evolved. the PSI-SQUIPS have become more than what otto made. stronger. malicious. a forgotten entity, left to rot. growing a mind of its own, a will of its own, a plan. they wind up having to enter ottos mind to fight it. they find they need to stop it at the source. the host. the leader.
days of resistance and torture build up and boil over for gisu. she breaks. the whole motherlobe shorts out, along with her PSI-SQUIP.
something changes in dion. just a bit. (the leader has decided on its host. gisu trusted dion. dion was regarded as incredibly competent.)
hollis' event is approaching. gisu stumbles into the lab of the resistance, frazzled. she knows whos infected and who isnt. she knows hollis is compromised. they assume hollis is the new host. they prepare.
it wants to spread. augustus declines. hes left wondering what the hell is going on with his kid.
dion tries to resist it. zap zap. now knowing this thing is capable of harm, dion makes an agreement. "dont fuck with my family and were cool." cool.

im getting a little too in my family feels today and so INSTEAD of feeling those im just going to ramble for a second about why i fucking love paladin!aelwyn because. im. just like this i guess im coping leave me alone
cw for discussions of child abuse, maladaptive coping, drugs and alcohol, self harm, destructive tendencies, basically everything we see in canon and the implications
aelwyn is ... SO interesting to me because for as much of her interiority as we see, as much of her as we think we understand, as much as i could ramble about her character for hours, we know ALMOST NOTHING about her in actuality?? (besides ... one key thing)
(this is like 2k and probably incoherent someone please stop me)
okay. listen. almost everything we see aelwyn do in s1 is maladaptive rebellion against her parents and home life. the drinking, the drugs, the partying, perhaps some of kalvaxus (though i dont think we fully understand how much of that was forced on her as well, kalina WAS watching her when she was talking to adaine about it). you can say like, oh aelwyn is a party animal, she's impulsive, she makes risky decisions, she's bitchy and rude, and its like. okay but IS SHE ACTUALLY. because under her parents thumb she had an EXTREMELY limited amount of freedom, and usually when people are suffering from very little control over their life, they WILL act destructively over the tiny bit they can, either harming themselves or their environment or people lower than them in the pecking order, because in a way, that feels like a reclamation of autonomy. saying "you have so much power over me but can you stop me from hurting myself and destroying what you havent managed to claim yet?". its just like, kind of what human brains do and frequently has little to do with a persons actual personality or impulses, its just. desperate brains trying to control SOMETHING because autonomy is a fundamental human need and when thats taken away we get. very bad off. (this is one big reason eating disorders are SO common with abused kids.) so i think a lot of the s1 aelwyn we see is like. this is a very desperate, abused teenager "acting out" in the only way it is possibly somewhat safe for her to do so because, on a psychological level, the self destruction is weirdly the only emotional tether and its either this or just dissociate all the time (something we do see she has problems with in canon)
and yes, she did treat adaine horribly in s1. she fully did. obviously what we get in canon is what happens but a moment thats interesting to me is in episode 1 where adaine has attacked aelwyn several times, who either does nothing or just bounces it back, when she says "i never cast spells at you" and siobhan immediately retcons it and says "yes you do, all the time" (i havent gone back and watched this bit so i might be wording this wrong). obviously its an improv show and the canon is built between performers as they go, but that was interesting to me. that brennan hadnt intended for her to have fought back in that way. she definitely feeds into the emotional abuse from their parents and participates in all the toxicity there, but we know in canon that she did that because of overwhelming fear and self preservation. and that her self hatred because of it just fed back into the cycle and made her feel like she wasnt good enough to even try to break free from it. this is very common in golden child/scapegoat sibling relationships where the golden child SEES what the parents are capable of and becomes a participant in the abuse out of fear for their own standing. in any way siding with the scapegoat child not only directs abuse at themselves as well, but frequently makes things WORSE for the scapegoat because the parents will take out the challenge to their power on them even more. so, if aelwyn DID ever try to defend or help adaine when they were small, she would have VERY QUICKLY learned that made things worse for everyone. and just. sectioned that part of her brain off, as she's done with so many other things. (and i dont think im reading too much into the forest scene with the abernants to say their parents were VERY QUICK to turn abuse towards aelwyn if she stepped out of line even a little. like, you dont flinch when a hand moves unless. you know. dont need to say it just something to think about. as far as we saw in canon, she had done everything they asked of her leading up to the forest, and we DONT KNOW what happened in it but we do know brennan specifically called out how in broken spirits she was when adaine was summoned, even though they did the ritual to avoid all of the nightmare bullshit)
(the house party is literally a whole separate post but i think its fair to point out that 1) she was super under the influence when that was happening which DEFINITELY is in no way an excuse for her behavior but worth remembering when trying to analyze that 2) her losing that fight did canonically have DRASTIC consequences for her and even if she didnt know exactly how that was going to turn out, i think she knew how bad it might be. and she did not know adaine or any of the bad kids were going to be there in the first place)
all that said, it feels in some ways counterproductive to say that aelwyn is an extremely devoted and protective person (yes we're getting to the paladin shit i know i've been rambling a while) but i think that thats strangely ALL WE ACTUALLY KNOW ABOUT HER. because we've established that her self-destructive and abusive behavior in s1 is almost entirely psychologically scripted for her by her parents, we dont know how much of her villain shit in s1 was LITERALLY UNDER THREAT OF DEATH because we know at least killing the oracle was and we dont know how much of the rest of it was mandated by either her parents or kalina other than that she probably was under orders not to tell adaine the truth, and we know participating in all of this caused extreme self loathing in her that she refused to show to anybody and was too terrified to act on in any way
so, like. what does that actually leave us?
here's what we do know about aelwyn:
- of all the schools of magic, she went into abjuration
- the entire bbeg plan from season 1 hinged on aelwyn's complete faith that her level 1 sister was the most prodigious diviner in the world
- right after (?) the house party, she locked her memories where only adaine could find it with a note basically saying "theres so much bad blood between us but i know only you could find this"
- she desperately wanted to protect adaine and the fact that she was too afraid to do so made her hate herself (and her knowing that adaine now knows this is the turning point in their relationship)
- despite everything, even in the nmk forest, she still loved her parents
- the SECOND she is shown genuine love and affection and care from adaine, and adaine says whatever you do, i am here with you, all her actions from there forward are just about protecting adaine from their father, very nearly at the cost of her own life
- with what she probably thought were her last words (and would have been if adaine hadnt given her the tincture), all she wanted to communicate was how to help adaine and the bad kids, and how despite everything she had always believed in her
- at five levels of exhaustion, unconscious, she used her first spell slot after nine months of torture to build a shield around adaine
NOW we get to paladin!aelwyn. because, once everything is stripped away, the abuse and the control and the maladaption and the threats and the torture, EVERYTHING we ACTUALLY can glean about aelwyn's personality and inner core is that she's protective and devoted. and of course classes arent locked by personality, but that just screams paladin to me. its her WHOLE THING. adaine even says "wizards dont have heals, we dont care about other people" and of COURSE that isnt true for either of them, but? mechanically? aelwyn chose the wizard school that DID let her protect, and DID let her help, but i dont think, at this point, going forward, thats really going to be enough for her (and we could also talk about the parallels between them, how often adaine uses her portents to help other people)
i think a lot of the different reads on aelwyn come from this fundamental disconnect between her actions and displayed personality vs who she actually is and what she actually wants. and i think there are very different interpretations of what thats going to look like for her going forward. but i think, for a girl who's most hated characteristic about herself was her self preservation at the detriment of others, her perceived selfishness, and her fear ... isn't choosing to be braver and more selfless and more protective and shedding that self-preserving instinct for the betterment of others ... and MECHANICALLY being able to act on all those things ... the logical next step? i think its going to be a LONG TIME before aelwyn can love herself, but what other way is there to try? if adaine loves her, and adaine believes she can be better, isnt being better because she trusts adaine kind of a form of self love? saying, i dont believe in myself, but i believe in the person who believes in me, and maybe, in a roundabout way, thats the same thing. she was never able to TRY to be better before, because trying to improve even a little, even when people arent watching, when a harmful force has so much power over you and your actions ... like, the mental dissonance is honestly TOO much to even try, thats WAY more terrifying than letting yourself be bad, to the point where thats psychologically impossible for a lot of people. but now she actually has space and freedom and CHOICE and she CAN embrace the instincts she always had to shove down, she CAN be the person she knows her sister needed her to be
i dont know, i think theres an inherent love letter to yourself in wanting to be better and wanting to improve, even if you justify it by saying its for someone else. and now aelwyn actually CAN improve, and thats probably going to be extremely awkward and scary and there will be set backs and backslides for sure. but. i dont know. i think she wants to make up for lost time. because she never wanted the time to be lost in the first place. and if a protector is who she always wanted to be, whats stopping her from being that now?

This is for the @planetoshun 90's-2000's theme server collab! It's a lot longer than i originally planned but I really enjoyed writing again, it's been so long!!

Graduation day is in a week. A few days later Kirishima is supposed to be going on a trip with his moms for 2 months. Bakugo isn't ready to be away from his best friend for that long, they are always together, especially after moving into the dorms. Breakfast, training, school, after school workouts, grocery shopping….Ei is always around. Bakugo has known for a while that he feels something special for the redhead, but has yet to bring it up. He thinks Ei feels somewhat the same but isn’t sure. There's always that nagging voice that says Kiri deserves someone better….
As Kat lays in bed he thinks about what to do- he is worried he is running out of time. What if Kiri goes on this trip and finds someone? A Lot can happen in 2 months. Kiri could find a pretty girl to make him smile. He could decide to move for good. Get married and gives his moms pretty grandbabies.
Kat starts to tear up at the thought of Kiri with someone else. Graduation could be the end for them, it could be the goodbye Bakugo never wants to happen. He doesn't want to let his best friend go. Who would be there for him on the bad days? The good days? Who would tell him dumb stories about all the animals seen on his patrol shift that week? Who would sing and dance in the kitchen while cooking? He’d be lonely. So much would be gone from Bakugos life if Kiri leaves. It would be so dull if he never came back. His heart starts to hurt, he can feel it clenching at the thought of Kiri never returning.
After thinking about it for a while longer and crying for a good hour- Bakugo decides he is going to say something to Kiri before it's too late- before he has the chance to back out. He moves to sit at his desk and pulls out a pencil and paper, he needs to get his thoughts out or he’ll mess it up, Kiri deserves the best- he can’t mess this up. It has to be perfect. Kat writes his feelings out, the things he always wanted to say-the little things he loves that Ei never notices about himself...everything he has ever wanted to say over the last few years of knowing Kirishima.
After throwing every thought onto paper, Kat runs into a problem. How does he do this..a speech? a letter? a song? no-definitely not a song!
A letter doesn't sound too bad, neither does a speech. Maybe he could swing both. Make a speech for everyone and then a letter only for Ei...something personal that Kat loves about his dorky, croc wearing redhead.
He knows exactly what he’ll be putting in the letter, it’ll be for Ei’s eyes only. The speech though...he knows when and he knows to do it full of confidence but he doesn't know what to say yet. He doesn’t want to embarrass either of them or make Ei upset for some reason. There are too many things that could go wrong.

As Bakugo prepares to walk across the stage and receive his diploma, an avalanche of emotions hits him. He is suddenly full of anxiety, nervousness, excitement, and some fear..even though he’ll never admit to that last one. He’s got the letter for Kiri neatly written and ready to be given away. He’s got his speech memorized and a few note cards stashed in his pocket, just in case.
It’s almost his turn to walk, he starts breathing a little heavier-the panic is starting to rise and settle in his lungs. He faintly hears the speeches given by Nezu and a few teachers, announcing the names of his classmates will soon be called along with the loud erratic beating of his heart, he reminds himself to breathe and that he NEEDS to do this. He NEEDS Eijiro to know the truth about how he feels. This is his last chance before the school year is officially over, before his self proclaimed deadline up and passes him by. He can do this...he can do this. Deep breaths...
He can't do this...it's too much. Eijiro isnt gonna understand, he is gonna mess up his words and Ei wont know what he means. Bakugo goes to turn and leave the line as he hears Mina’s name called by Present Mic. Before he can get too far, he feels strong hands grip his shoulders and suddenly he is face to face with Sero.
“You’re really gonna leave? You of all people are going to choose to run away?”. Bakugo gives him a look, “I’m not running away...I just have to-I need some air.” Bakugo tries again to leave but Sero only follows, causing a puff of air to leave Bakugos nose and a hand to fly up and rub his face in annoyance. “Look Tapeface, You don't need to go follow. I’ll be right back”. Once more he is stopped but this time it's by words instead of a pair of hands. “You know he feels the same right? He likes you just as much as you like him, I don't know if that will make you go out there and say what you need to say but you’ve been trying so hard to get this right….you asked me for help….ME! You came to me and asked me to proofread, I helped for hours to make sure you had everything you needed. I don't want to pressure you but….you need to know that he won't reject you….I haven't told him anything, but he's been asking about you since you haven't been around this week. He loves you Bakugo.” Sero takes a rushed deep breath after his spiel and tells Bakugo he is going to go back to the line.
Bakugo is stunned at first. He knew Ei was going to ask where he was since he hadn't been around but... Ei liked him? Loved him? Sero gave Bakugo the push he needed, He quickly marched his way back to his spot behind Tsu and was just in time for her name to be called.
He’s next. He is gonna walk up to that mic and tell Eijiro exactly how he feels. He’s gonna do it.
“Bakugo Katsuki”
Bakugo takes a deep breath and starts walking across the stage to Nezu. He gives a nod and a handshake then heads to the podium. Present Mic backs up and gestures for Bakugo to go ahead.
“I have something to say…” Deep breath, I can do this “These last few years have been nothing short of crazy. Everyone has been through so much. Hell, we are graduating! I don't want to get too off track here but uh..I guess good job guys- congrats, we did it.”
As Bakugo gets more comfortable in front of the audience, he decides to wing it. He doesn't want to sound scripted, he wants to soun- Be genuine.
“I decided I was going to get something off my chest before leaving today. I've been thinking and i uhh- shit this is kinda hard. Okay, I uhh...I” Bakugo looks to the left side of the stage and sees Kirishima giving him a thumbs up and Sero mouthing “you got this”. Bakugo nods, straightens up and runs a hand through his hair.
“I noticed a long time ago that there was something missing from my routine. I was training too hard, I didn't like to go out and leave the dorms, I didn't want to be noticed unless it was for hero work.” Clearing his throat, he continued “That changed a while back and I started feeling differently about some things, but didn’t know what to say or do so I took a step back with training, I didn't push so hard. I talked a little more. Turns out going out isn't so bad, it wasn't so much of a chore. I liked being noticed, but only by one person. And not just for hero work, I liked to be noticed always. I WANTED it, enjoyed it.”
Taking a steadying breath in and letting the nerves leave him in a rush of air, Bakugo finishes off his speech with, “After the hard patrols, I found myself wondering what that person was doing, thinking. Were they really okay despite what was said? Did they have any injuries that nobody knew about? I wanted them to be around constantly, I wanted to know about their day, the good and the bad ones. The bad ones especially because I wanted to be there to comfort them, hold them, make the tears stop if there were any. I want to cook for them on the mornings when they are tired and want to sleep in. I want to make them smile and laugh, I want to be the reason they are happy. I want to show them what it feels like to be loved. So here it goes, I love you…..I love you Eijiro Kirishima and I always have.” The audience claps and a few people say “awww”, but that is quickly over with once Bakugo throws a glare in their direction.
With a quick look to his left, straight to a furiously blushing redhead, Bakugo smiles, winks then walks off the stage and goes back to his seat. He thinks he did pretty good, great even. So what if he stumbled a bit at first?
He reaches into his pocket and takes out the letter, he needs to get it to Ei’s seat before he misses his chance. He counts the seats, “Toru, Tenya, Kyoka, Denki '', he gets to Ei’s seat and places the creased envelope on the chair with a little tape and a neatly written EIJIRO across the front. Bakugo makes it back to his place just in time for the line of people to start coming his way. He gets smiles, winks and high fives from his classmates as he waits for Ei to make his way to the letter. He’s started to sweat a little, cursing under his breath- slightly worried it's going to blow away or that someone might read it before Ei gets to it. His heartbeat slows as he sees Ei coming down the walkway to his chair. Bakugo sees the smile light up Kirishima’s face as Kiri sees the letter with his name clearly written in Bakugo’s handwriting.

Kiri makes his way to his seat with a huge smile on his blushing face. After Kat showcasing his love that way, what would the note say? Kiri figured it would have a little explanation but nothing more. He takes the letter and places it in his shirt pocket, he’ll wait to read it till he is alone and can concentrate much better.
Back at the dorms, Ei is laying on his bed relaxing after a shower and packing. He remembers the note from Bakugo and gets excited all over again to read it. He hasn't heard from or seen Bakugo since the ending ceremony, everyone headed off in different directions and with family. Ei didn't know but Kat was in his dorm next door, not so patiently waiting to hear from his best friend.
Kirishima sits cross legged in the middle of his bed and holds the envelope in his hands, studying it. He goes to open it but his hands are starting to shake, he’s nervous...what’s the note going to say? He peels the little explosion sticker off that’s sealing it shut and smiles as he remembers gifting them to Kat a couple months ago. He pulls the paper out carefully, not wanting to damage the words written so carefully. As he unfolds the note, he can see the amount of effort put into this. The words don’t look sloppy or rushed, they’ve been written so neatly and there’s not a smudge on the paper. It looks absolutely perfect. After sitting and staring for a while, Ei starts to read……
I know you're leaving for the trip soon...I just couldn't let you go without getting some things off my chest. Do you remember the night Denki got us really drunk? We talked all about the past...I remember it...you said you’d never been in love before. Said you’d never known what it was like to BE loved….I’d like to show you if you’d let me?
The day we went “exploring” after patrol in 1st year, we walked forever till you found a meadow with all these flowers. You were so happy- running around, smiling and laughing. When we finally found somewhere to sit and relax, we just sat for hours. You picked flowers and played with the grass, found little caterpillars and watched the clouds.
You looked so beautiful- the sun was shining, butterflies were flying around and your eyes were so bright. You were just sitting and smiling, you looked so peaceful- no stress, no drama….just you and me. I’ll never forget it, that day you held my hand for the 1st time. I think it might have been an accident but even if it was, I'm glad you didn’t let go. We stayed until the stars came out then we walked to town for dinner. It was a simple day but from then on I just…..I couldn’t see things the same anymore.
The more I think about it, I wish that had been a date. It was perfect enough to be one. Maybe we’ll be able to go on one after your trip. I know how excited you are to go. That’s the reason for everything today.
I didn’t want you to leave and it be too late for me to tell you this. I didn’t want you to meet someone new...someone who you’d choose to move away with.
I love you Eijiro. My heart belongs to you, hopefully you’ll forgive me for taking so long to confess.
Have fun on your trip! I’ll be here when you come back… I’ll be here for you till my dying day. Just come back to me, okay?

Bakugo waited and waited for Kirishima to say or do something, anything. He didn’t want to celebrate without his best friend. At that moment there was a knock, then another and finally the voice he’d been waiting to hear.
”Kat? Can I come in?”
“Doors open”
Kiri opened the door. The first thing Bakugo noticed was the tears on Kiri’s face and the letter still in his hand. Bakugo stood up from the bed and walked a little closer to Kiri who shut the door and was wiping his eyes.
”Why are you crying?”
“because no one has ever called me beautiful before, made me feel beautiful. You did both in just a few sentences.”
Kiri launched forward, wrapping his arms around Bakugo and hugging him tightly. Stepping back a little and pressing their foreheads together, Kiri asked, “Did you mean it?”
Bakugo lifted his hand from being bunched in the fabric of Kiri’s shirt, softly placing it on Ei’s jaw and caressing his cheek with his thumb. Looking into Kirishima’s eyes, he answered, “All of it. Every word”
Their eyes bounced from lips and back to eyes before they both leaned in and kissed sweetly. As they parted, Kiri smiled and muttered, “You know...it was supposed to be a surprise..but I actually have a ticket for you to come with me. I’ve already cleared it with your parents….”
Bakugo couldn’t help the grin that broke out across his face and the laugh that boomed from his chest, “You little shit!”

the big, big problem with airbending and korra, is the fact that in ATLA, we are told and shown over, and over again that the thing that defines airbending, is freedom. certainly, spirituality is a large part of it, but when push came to show, it was freedom and the ability to not be tied down by any one place, that was one of aangs strengths. its not a coincidence that the moment he loses this with appa, that everything goes wrong for him, and it turns around after their reunion.
by comparison, Korra is tied down to places throughout her entire life, and its not really before season 2 that this is no longer the case. she's tied down to the south pole, tenzins home, to republic city. the girl has never in her life, known true, freedom, with the very, very brief exception of between south pole and republic city. if i had been writing the story, this one brief period, i would have had korra for the first time in her life being able to airbend, showing she was finally free.
then have her immediatly lose this brief single window of progress once she comes to republic city, and once again shackles herself to a place, one that ironically was made to train new air nomads. have this be a source of anger for her, and a point of anger towards tenzin as he obviously(in her view) is doing something wrong, as she lost the little progress she made, while under his tutolage. have tenzin struggle not knowing what he's doing wrong, as he hasnt encountered this problem before.
then at the end of the season, korra realises that the problem isnt tenzin's training, but the scars her isolated and completely sheltered upbringing had on her, leading her to decide to actually travel the world, and learn what it is like to just live. then have season 2 start in the middle of that, korra is resentful against the white lotus and her father, but she is finally starting to learn airbending on her own, and is ready for the spiritual step, and as such goes to her uncle to learn...
then have season 2 be about how korra is now trying to learn the spirtual aspects of being the avatar, and chooses a terrible choice for a teacher, as she simply doesnt trust the white lotus to either train her, or help her find a trainer. this could be a great source of conflict, as tenzin could have had an arc, with him realising how stupid the way korra was raised was, and him trying to make ammends, with the two only reconciling at the very end of the season.
I like a lot of what this is doing, especially that you’re dramatizing the sense of freedom that Korra needs to attain.
I think this concept could be linked more directly to what the cartoon was trying to do, though, by making Republic City itself into the symbol/manifestation of Korra’s need for freedom. Air Temple Island itself could be the place where she doesn’t feel the freedom, but those early episodes -- where Korra was fighting crooks and running from cops and sneaking away for Probending and hunting down Equalists -- I think do a good job of showing the kind of freedom she needs and wants. Perhaps those kinds of adventures could lead to her spontaneously Airbending to her surprise, but in such a way that there are no witnesses and she’s not sure if she actually did it. Mako or some other compatriot could have been looking away for a second and assumed something else knocked over that crate or caused the Triad attacker to trip, or something. So we could get a moment where Korra laments Airbending being invisible and doubts her abilities when she goes back to Tenzin in the temple and then can’t Airbend again.
She could even lose the sense of freedom she gets from Republic City when the Equalists start really rising up and the authorities rise up against them.
...
Oooooooh, so maybe the big climax where she Airbends unmistakably against Amon could be not to save Mako, but an action to somehow save the city? Perhaps she keeps Amon from setting off a bomb by remote or something; obviously the whole finale would have to be restructured to accommodate this moment. The story could even play up some location in the city that’s symbolic of its ‘good’ side (other than the Probending arena, if we keep the earlier assault on it), and that’s where Amon is going to do his final big damage.
Anyway, those are my unformed thoughts, but I really do like the idea of making spiritual freedom into the crux of Airbending. Perhaps something could even be uncovered that showed that Airbending ability diminished among the Nomad Elders of Aang’s time as the threat of the Fire Nation grew more apparent, hence their heavy investment in training Aang to fight.
And Korra’s background is perfectly setup for this to be a major theme of her story. It could even be tied into her romance with Asami, and the freedom to act on her feelings. The cartoon tried to eventually say it was about Korra learning compassion, but I never felt like that was a problem for her.
Dang, I really wish the LoK creative team had the time/chance to do another few drafts on their overall story before starting the scripting. There were so many good elements in play, and it was just never brought together.

(1/?) What do you think of Rick Riordan and his books? I personally like them a lot and think he's handled his representation quite well, though not perfectly of course, theres still some problems but hes doing a p good job I really like that he's supporting authors who've written mythology books about their cultures. That way he isnt writing about cultures he isnt part of and is boosting up and coming authors, mostly of colour. I'm particularly fond of his genderfluid character
(2/?) since I'm nonbinary myself and havent seen a lot of rep for that, especially an identity as little known as genderfluid. One of my best friends is genderfluid and loves alex as well. I also adore the pjo series as I grew up with it and am really happy with the neurodivergent rep (I'm autistic) Like I said before, his rep isn't perfect but so far he's doing very well for a white abled cishet man (afaik) Have you read any of his books? I'd recommend the magnus chase series which is the one
(3/3) with the genderfluid character, who shows up in the second book. The pjo series is ofc also fantastic tho it hasnt as much coc or queer characters, but percy and his mother are rep for victims of abuse and percy and the other demigods are all neurodivergent so it's not like its void of anything. (And one of the charas turns out to be gay but that's revealed in the follow up series not pjo) Anyhow, I hope you have a nice day, keep up the good work!
Hi there! I guess I haven’t been vocal enough lately about loving Rick Riordan because rest assured I would die for that man. My heart is with the original PJO books but I’ve read 1-4 of HoO. I tried to read TKC back when it was coming out and I couldn’t get into it. The Sword of Summer has been sitting on my nightstand for like three years so I don’t know if/when I’ll read it but I know I intended to one point :(. Middle grade is hard for me to get into these days, but I do plan on a full PJO reread before I die.
Overall I think Riordan is a stellar example of an author with privilege improving themselves and using their platform to promote diverse characters and authors. I’m so glad you could find yourself in one of his characters. One of my best friends I’ve known since we were kids has dyslexia and I think she similarly identified with Percy and co’s experiences. I also love how he's RIDE OR DIE for his reader base. Remember last year when he entirely snapped and dropped that 10 page letter explaining what happened with the PJO movies and providing all his editorial notes on that awful script? Remember all those times he called out homophobic parents for taking issue with the rep in his books? I don’t know if any other author will be as legendary.

okay i cant get the jun (and yanan) historical & fantasy c-drama idea out of my idea thanks to that one video, so i decided to basically write the plot myself since i know its never gonna happen otherwise [side eyes pledis] @ pledis give him an acting role already
anyways!! enjoy i guess.. who knows maybe ill be hired as a script writer. also this is more like. part 1 considering where i left off lol i can write more but i was just very pleased with how this turned out. (maybe ill do part 2 if people like this enough)
in this world, there’s humans (royalty, swordsmen, peasants, etc) and magical deities (gods, goddesses, sorcerers, witches, warlocks, etc) who live together on earth. they’re in a long stretch of peace after a 100 year battle left both sides war torn and in anguish.
the peace seems to continue to stretch year after year, but recently, there’s been whispers of unrest from both sides. there also seems to be a new race walking these lands, one known for their cruelty and their attraction to evil of all kinds
jun is a minor god, leader of one of the 13 major deities clan. he is considered the god of the seasons, and he can make flowers grow with a snap of his fingers. all his disciples and those living in his clan are trained well in the art of fan dancing, and are talented with the bow and arrow.
his traditional clothing has more flow and length to it than most, due to him being a minor god. these clothes make his dancing even more beautiful. he’s got a soft spot for shiny things, and enjoys wearing jewelry on any part of his body. he keeps a magical steel fan attached to his hip, which is able to turn into any weapon he pleases, though he prefers using it as the fan, or as a bow and arrow.
jun’s basically invented the art of using his fan in battle. he attached a long slice of very sharp metal to the inside of the fan, allowing it to be extended and used like a blade. the extension of the fan from his arm makes it easier to block and knock weapons out from his enemy’s grasp. he’s currently the only one who has perfected this new style of fighting, though people come from all over to receive training from him (basically, thinking like the kiyoshi warriors from atla)
yanan belongs to the human side. a long lost prince who has only recently found his spot within royalty at the castle. he’s used to roaming the city beyond, interacting with anyone and everyone, always smiling. he liked to walk the city, following certain smells, maybe playing with some kids. but now, as a well known prince, he’s forced to stay within castle walls, banned from speaking with anyone that’s not royalty
he really just wants to people watch, but his mother – the queen – keeps a close eye on him. she even has a close personal body guard to watch his every move and report back to her (though, he is much more loyal to yanan than he is to the queen)
he’s not really all that talented in anything battle related, but he’s one of the most intelligent men in the realm. he’s able to think his way out of any problem, and his ability to read people & their emotions rarely leads him into any situation he can’t handle
he wants to learn sword fighting, but again, his mother refuses. he’s got a personal body guard, why would he need to fight?? little does his mother know he just wants to learn how to swordfight because he thinks it looks cool lol anyway he knows how to shoot a bow and arrow, if only because he used to hunt on his own. he was alright at it, but is quite rusty now.
every year there is a peace treaty signing, signifying another year passed filled with peace. it’s a huge party, basically, with many feasts, music, magic, and plenty of competitions. it switches who holds it every year but this year the humans are in charge and hosts it at the castle. this will be the first year yanan is attending as a prince (living in the castle)
all thirteen leaders of the deities attend, usually bringing one or two of their members along. jun is included in this! this is jun’s favorite time of year, he loves all the music and the dancing that comes along with it. and he cant forget the food either
yanan really doesnt want to be there. he feels out of place, and hes bored, looking around as the leaders from across the kingdom are announced. if anything he wants to get up and roam around, but he’s required to sit in one of the thrones reserved for royalty.
he fidgets in his seat, thinking about how much he hates his new clothes for the millionth time. they’re so restricting, not to mention heavy. why does all his jewelry have to be real gold? and his cloak is some fiber he’s not even sure what it is, but it’s itchy and heavy, too.
yanan stands to escape the prententious conversations surrounding him, but is caught by his mother before he can leave. she says hes required to meet some of the important guests attending, since hes the prince now. he sighs and follows her. he’s introduced as prince yanan – though hes still unused to this name – to the leaders of neighboring countries, and the 13 deity clans.
his eyes easily sweep over his fellow humans, but he can’t help but stare at the deity clan leaders. they’re all beautiful. each member has vibrant clothes he’s never seen, plenty of jewelry, and beautiful smiles. most of them have pointed ears like elves, or multi colored eyes. they all have different designs – painted? are they tattoos? are they magic runes? – all over their visible skin, some even have them on their faces
yanan realizes, too late, that the designs all reflect what they are the gods of. the weather, the seasons, the heavens, musicality, love, etc. he briefly wonders what magic they possess, too.
his mother clears her throat, and he looks up. he must’ve been staring. god, he’s so embarrassed. he smiles shyly and bows, eyes falling to the ground. the deities carry on their conversation, and yanan straightens up. only to make direct eye contact with the only deity staring back at him. yanan’s not sure how to react. he doesn’t have to, though, because they are all leaving, politely waving goodbye. the feast is about to begin, and then the competitions begin the next day.
the next day, he finds himself sitting in a throne. again. his mother forbid him from joining any of the competitions. he can’t take this anymore. pulling on his bodyguard’s sleeve, he tells him he’ll reward him handsomely if he distracts the queen so he can leave. the bodyguard agrees, and yanan slips out of the area unnoticed. he goes to the archery competition, intrigued.
it ends up a near death experience. he accidentally walked out into the archery field, not knowing the layout of the castle all that well, and an arrow was coming straight for him. it would’ve hit him had a wall of vines not appeared out of nowhere, the arrow being caught in the tangle of vines
jun, the god of seasons and flora, rushes over, making sure yanan is okay. he is, just a bit shaken. he tells jun as much, and excuses himself. jun is curious about this quiet, wandering prince.
he decides, then and there, he’s going to attach himself to that prince. as a form of apology, he reasons. it seems like he needs a friend, anyways. he begins to follow (annoy? perhaps) the prince on the castle grounds.
he also bumps into him in the city, like what is a prince doing out here in disguise? idk but i better protect him and see what hes doing. jun isnt subtle either, he continues to try to make conversation with yanan, who shies away from any deep conversation.
jun asked, once, why he wont talk to him and he said the queen forbid him from befriending anyone outside the castle, but especially someone who isnt human. jun decides to make yanan his friend, and yanan eventually begrudgingly accepts. soon, it’s weird not to have jun at his side.
they become inseparable, a beautiful metaphor for the peace between the two races. but soon enough, jun is required to return home to the clans, and yanan has to stay at the castle. its heart breaking.
they dont see each other for a while after that. evil and chaos descends on the world, pitting the races against each other again. the peace treaty is broken, and many, many lives are lost. there was a life taken from both sides, a leader of one of the 13 clans killed, and the queen, murdered.
rumors spread, saying yanan murdered the clan leader in cold blood, in return for them killing the queen. a royal dagger was left, bloodied and out for everyone to see. it had yanan’s initials on it.
rumors spread, saying jun killed the queen via poison from some of his foliage. guards found pieces of a foreign plant that only the jun clan can grow, poisonous to anyone that is not a deity.
both swore they were not involved in these murders, but these seemed to be the start of an all-out war. everyone thought the others were the ones in the wrong. humans began to hate the deities, and the deities began to isolate themselves away.
everyone blamed everyone else. but they knew better. jun and yanan knew the other would never have hurt anyone. jun grows flowers in his spare time, and yanan sneaks out of the castle to give food to the poor. neither of them have an evil bone in their body, how could they ever willingly kill someone?
but no one believed them. it’s not until countless soldiers and innocent people began to lose their lives that yanan realizes staying in the castle is doing nothing. he leaves the castle and arrives at jun’s door step, begging for his help.
jun easily accepts, and they begin to work together. they know each other did not hurt anyone, so, who could possibly want the treaty to fail? who could frame these two into starting an all out war? jun briefly mentions the addition of a new deity clan, someone just starting out. yanan asks what kind of god are they?
and jun realizes.
“god of chaos.”
it’s them. they’re the one who framed them, they’re the one who is causing all this tension and all these deaths. with both races busy trying to kill each other, it leaves jun and yanan by themselves to save their world from utter destruction.

it kinda bugs me how they cant make httyd3 longer just so they can emphasize the story in a deeper meaning, like your post abt it being disproportionate. httyd3 had a LOT more plot than httyd2 and we can already see how it has to cramp so much and why that makes D2's pace felt pretty fast. the structure of the story is actually well planned.. perfect, to be exact! but the execution like putting pauses, necessary humor, longer dialogue, is whats needed to make it um, understandable? im not sure..
this isnt meant to judge the movie as bad though! but its a question ive been asking why they cant do it longer, for that sake. is it the budget? was Dean really certain the script is okay? or is it meant to be like this so people can interpret the movie their way? (oof that one is confusing).. i dont know, i want to ask about your thoughts on that >

It’s an interesting conversation for sure! I believe that THW doesn’t have to be longer to be extremely successful in the ideas it needs to convey! The core ideas being:
Toothless cannot be a wild dragon and strong alpha leader with humans. Other dragons probably deserve the respect of needing wild dragon needs, too.
Humans like Grimmel are extremely dangerous to dragons and will continue to arise, so dragons need to go to an area separate from humans to live in optimal peace.
Hiccup and Toothless’ powerful friendship will separate (insofar as physical location) due to the first two points
I know you’re not the only person I’ve talked to who wanted a longer time because you feel like certain elements were cramped, needed more breathing room, or that dangerous plot points didn’t get enough sense of weight. More time would presumably give that flow and sense of scale and danger. Now, it’s true that more time would give us more content to develop these things. That said, I believe solutions aren’t always “add more.” Creating good art isn’t about adding new things; it’s about knowing when to take away or alter, and how to make every second of your creation count optimally.
I remember when I was doing my music composition degree, my instructors hammered into me what would make a good final piece: the editing process of deleting measures - even measures that were really good! - because they didn’t fit what the final product needed. It’s painful to delete, but ultimately, it’s freeing; instead of making a music piece more cluttered to put all possible good ideas in, I can make it less cluttered, more manageable, more beautiful, more meaningful, and more effective to audiences. A better overall piece isn’t putting in every good idea I have; it’s leaving the piece with the beautiful ideas it needs.
I suggest The Hidden World doesn’t need added materials so much as it needs refining what’s already there.
Budget, production green lighting, and carefulness to the script all seem to have been done. HTTYD 3 was given a longer production time than originally planned. They pushed back the date exactly so they could make their best product. Interviews with people like DeBlois and Spielberg (who read several definitions of the script) talk about how much the script was transformed and bettered through its drafts. They did enough tweaking and care to rework the script. As for budget, the movie was 129 million USD, which sure was the cheapest of the HTTYD trilogy to create, but it’s about on par with what DreamWorks has spent on other movies like Home and Trolls - it’s not like there was skimping - and it’s all about making your money count, which I think this glorious, top notch animation quality film effectively did. So from what I’ve heard, I think production ran fine and we can’t question THW there.
I think most of THW’s problems can be solved simply by tweaking how scenes go down, taking a few small elements out, and adding a few small elements in. It doesn’t need time changes; it needs internal modifications to what’s already there. What I propose wouldn’t change much of the movie’s length - though maybe I we could add 5-8 minutes for things like a longer climax.
1. To Feel Less “Cluttered” or “Rushed”
The movie didn’t feel rushed to me or too cluttered, but it’s cluttered. You’re right. In addition to creating less clutter, my suggested tweaks will clear up time THW can spend elsewhere, streamline THW into fewer palatable essential ideas, and give a slight tone makeover that will add more sense of danger and conflict that THW needs.
Fewer humor side gags with minor characters (and less time spent on them). The gang’s antics are fun additions, yes, but that doesn’t mean they’re central to what the plot needs. Spending too much time with them adds clutter and takes away from plot-central, tone-central material. There’s a huge gaggle of gags in THW, more than any movie needs in a less-than-two-hour-long run time. Do we need all these to give THW its comic relief? Don’t get me wrong - I loved the humor - but time needs to be prioritized, and the movie will be improved once “less is more.”
Less time with Tuffnut’s pep talks. This goes with my first point. This comedic gag was lengthy in particular. It’s in part because it connects to the idea of Hiccstrid marrying, which THW does make more central in its themes. However, I also propose:
Spend less time (or delete) the will-they won’t-they marry Hiccstrid plot. THW intends to parallel Hiccup and Toothless maturing into adulthood, including their romantic connections. However, a will-they won’t-they marry subplot in Hiccstrid isn’t needed to create that parallel. Not to mention: it can be uncomfortable to have this undertone of romance as “required” adulthood maturation, and the fact that Hiccstrid are so close and intimate makes it feel “off” that they’re so uncomfortable talking about marriage. Spend less time here, simply make fans aware they’re going to marry in the future but not today, and return to the main relationships THW needs to pay attention to: that of Hicctooth and Nightlight.
2. To Make Grimmel a Greater Sense of Threat
One of the central points is that Grimmel is extremely dangerous and represents one of many humans that’ll continue to be a threat to dragons. While Grimmel can be overcome, Hiccup will need to interact with Grimmel in such a way he can understand that dragons and humans cannot coexist in today’s civilization without continuing to risk danger, and that it’s best for everyone to live happily in two separate civilizations. It’s not being defeated by the enemy’s oppression, but taking a brilliant countermeasure to give humans and dragons both a better existence.
Making Grimmel feel like a greater sense of threat, and helping audience members understand what Grimmel represents overarchingly of humanity’s current antagonistic state, will help us and Hiccup process why a separation is best. This can be done by:
Show Grimmel’s impact on human society. All we’d have to do is change what his base looks like: it could be located in an area taken over from another human civilization, showing his army’s power and place in this world over humans.
Greater weight placed on Berk’s exodus. The Hooligans lost their home, but it’s played too lightly. It’s not written optimally as an emotionally impacting or destabilizing moment, which decreases the sense of threat Grimmel has. Instead of having the Hooligans excited to find New Berk, show them grieving. They can butt against Hiccup’s ideas of finding the Hidden World, but instead in a way where they’re frustrated at his naive solution and hurt at what they left behind. This isn’t adding time to THW; this is tweaking phraseology and presenting an event differently.
Change how Berk is abandoned. To make the attack feel more dire, threatening, either: 1. Have the Hooligans more reluctant and grumpy to leave in the town meeting, and not play the leaving scene so lightly, or 2. Have Grimmel chase them out of Berk so they have to flee then and there. This might even reduce time!
Show Grimmel’s power over dragons. We could have a few-second-long flashback of him standing over a field of dead Night Fury bodies, or have his place cloaked in dragon skins or skulls.
Show Grimmel’s power as a warlord. Grimmel acts in almost a solo fashion, despite cooperating with warlords and having an army. It doesn’t give us a good sense of scale. Show his interactions better with the whole of his forces to make him feel more dangerous, and for humanity as a whole to feel more like a threat against dragons. For example, in the scenes where he’s trying to trap the dragon riders, show him commanding more people.
Show Grimmel’s impact on the dragon (and/or human worlds) through landscape. What if, as the Hairy Hooligans try to find a new place to stay, they fly over several islands that have been destroyed by Grimmel’s forces? Either human civilizations, or homes once havens to dragons, with characters making comment they “hope” people got away. And what if, when Grimmel takes their dragons near the end of THW, it’s again through more violence and a raid and fire and destruction?
Conversations more clearly talk about Grimmel’s dangers over dragons and humans, and how he’s one of many people that’ll arise. This idea is embedded in THW dialogue, but not clearly enough to fully grasp its weight, especially not in the sense we see characters grasp this. Have Hiccup and Astrid and Valka or something talk about how widely destructive Grimmel is, how even once he’s gone another man like him will take his place, and that while they may continue to fight and win for human and dragonkind, it’s ultimately not the right move to make for everyone to live safest and alive. A conversation laying this out makes a world of difference in our understanding of what dangers are going down and why we need to come to the solution THW concludes with. Again, this isn’t adding time; it’s changing phraseology.
Add a few minutes to the climax. Make the final fight with Grimmel obviously the final fight, the threat bigger, the action more intense.
Perhaps show that Berk’s done good work changing the world by their choices. Even though Berk ultimately decides to let the dragons go, they are meant to be the voice of peace that changes their world. The good guys can’t resign to letting themselves live under the thumb of bad guys’ choices. Show that they’ve made a difference - Grimmel and his armies are gone and the world is regrowing (no more torched landscape, if we add that element in) - but that it’s still going to help their world by letting dragons go, too… for this generation, at least.
3. To Make Hiccup and Toothless’ Parting Jive Better
Hiccup and Toothless separate out of need - they can’t live in the same place for the better of both their kinds. However, since the movie spends so much time on Toothless chasing after the Light Fury, we don’t get that full sense of need. I propose:
Open THW with a clear Hicctooth sappy bonding moment. We need things like “Forbidden Friendship” and “Where No One Goes” to feel the power of Hicctooth’s love. Give us that starting sense in THW of how close they are before adding in the complications. It can even be done by tweaking how the opening fight scene goes down.
Show dragons profiting by living with humans, but it also being Complicated with their wild side. We need to acknowledge that the relationship between humans and dragons has done the dragons good, too! Otherwise it might feel incongruous with the rest of the franchise.
Show dragons being unfit in the urban area through their own restlessness. The movie tries to show this with Moosie Boi being too big for Berk, and Berk being so crowded with dragons Gobber finds the soup unsanitary. But if we see Stormfly restless and want to leave for the Hidden World, too, wouldn’t this say something more about where dragons are pulled to and belong?
Less time spent on Toothless investigating the Night Fury. You can’t cut this down too much or we’ll feel like rushing, but since THW focuses so much on just Toothless and the Light Fury’s connection rather than an overarching problem for dragons, it’s hard to feel the full-scale issues of the problem. Making it just him and her feels more like a hook up love story than “dragons and humans are incompatible for their needs.”
Change Toothless’ body language. Show more emotional division in Toothless about his conflicting options. Show him hesitant to leave Hiccup and the two interact over that. Show him lonely away from his kind when with Hooligans. Show him feeling that loneliness met - that deep emotional need of being with his own species - when he’d thought was lost to him (rather than focusing on it being a romantic hookup interest). This doesn’t take more time; it tweaks what was already given on screen.
Change Toothless’ emotions with the Light Fury to feel more like loneliness being met than horny boi practicing kissing with a rock. This does a better job of showing that Toothless has a deep need that needs to be met as a wild animal and as a social draconic species.
Change conversations Hiccup has with humans about Toothless’ struggle. Maybe have Hiccup processing less with people and more by himself or with Toothless. Don’t write the conversations with people be about “Toothless has a girlfriend” and “of course he left.” Discuss instead how Night Furies are social creatures and Toothless hasn’t been with his kind in six years - that’s a huge hole in his heart being filled. Validate the deep connection Hiccup and Toothless have, while simultaneously acknowledging the struggle of this moment now. The movie shows that the Light Fury can never be domesticated, so I think that’s fine, but maybe one line from Astrid saying, “I don’t think she’ll come to live with us,” would be enough to help other audience members pick that up too.
More time spent on all dragons being in danger, and Toothless as an alpha unable to protect them with Hairy Hooligans. The story doesn’t show Toothless being much of an alpha - intentional - until he reaches the Hidden World and it clicks. But I suggest it’d be more effective to pull this out more than having an issue with Moose Boi taking up too much space in Berk, and Berk being so crowded Gobber has a dragon in his soup.
Put more of a deal on Toothless being an alpha. You can say that Toothless didn’t understand or use his role as alpha when with humans, but I think showing more sense of conflict, and of an alpha needing to be wild to protect his own, would be useful. Make this an issue for all dragons. The alpha status being used as a blackmail device against Toothless to keep the Light Fury alive could be replaced with us seeing the full species of dragonkind being unable to be protected by an alpha apart from his own people. More needs to be done than dragons bowing to him in one scene to understand what the alpha does for his society.
Show Toothless with more Light Furies. The Light Fury being his singular focus is great. But what about, in the Hidden World, Hiccup and Astrid watch Toothless interacting with a whole group of Night Furies, and he’s clearly in a situation that was Made For Him?
THW already has great content in there - Toothless and the Light Fury interacting, Hiccup crying when he realizes Toothless is fit in the Hidden World, Hiccup freaking out and Astrid comforting him when he feels a low, and Hiccup and Toothless parting ways touchingly at the end.
With these proposed tweaks, we get Toothless and Hiccup’s relationship being addressed deeply from the angle of both friends. We understand what both Toothless and Hiccup emotionally feel, and palatably sense how both love the other. We get a sense that Toothless is attracted to the Light Fury and might want to mate, but that she’s also calling him into a wild life and reminding him that he’s been alone, separated from his kind. We get a sense that it’s not just Toothless, but all dragons who might be called back to the Hidden World. We get a sense that it’s not just Toothless, but his whole role as alpha affecting the entirety of dragonkind.
And once we add in a greater sense of Grimmel being dangerous, and that more humans like him will continue to rise up, we can understand why Berk would release all their dragons. It’s not that dragons hate living with humans - THW can make that clear - and it’s not that dragons haven’t been profited by living with humans. But in the current call, the current situation, it’s best to go to the Hidden World.
I’m mostly tweaking how scenes go down, changing lines and reactions rather than adding material. Feel free to propose a longer movie! For me, THW already has enough space to share its message. Maybe it needed to be a few minutes longer, but I suppose my own sense is that they had enough time to budget in this material, make a smooth-flowing movie with all the material they needed to present, and come away with an astounding storyline.
Like you, this isn’t meant to judge the movie as bad! It isn’t bad! It’s downright wonderful in many aspects. I’m so happy I’ve seen it and can scream over it! Simply, if I were in charge of tweaking the script, these are the first alterations I’d make, and I think it would make THW even better.

So the Otakon accessibility policies seem... pretty shady
Otakon is a (mostly) Japanese pop-culture con (i.e. anime convention +) that happens annually in DC, though it had been in Baltimore up until recently.
This is my first year going. I've been to other conventions in that convention center in the last 2 years, and the accessibility policies and practices were pretty good. But then I read up on this years and saw a lot of stuff that, while not necessarily an issue for me (as I will be dependent on my walker and cane while there), could spell trouble for people with invisible disabilities (which used to be me).
I copy and pasted the full text from the website, and I highlighted the questionable bits with purple and italics (I'm sorry for the color, but I'm hoping its the least problematic choice color-wise for visual issues... italics isnt enough of a highlighting format when scrolling theough text and having visual issues, so its been a catch 22). The Basics:
What is “Member Accessibility”?
Member Accessibility is a department that assists convention attendees who may need a little extra help, due to differing abilities. When attendees need and request it, we can provide them with elevator access, priority seating, and in very limited instances, an escort through or around crowded areas. We do not provide medical equipment, including wheelchairs, nor do we provide assistance in using such equipment. You will need to provide this on your own.
Where is Member Accessibility?
We have a desk in the main registration area. We also have staff located in many areas of the convention center, called rovers. They will have a black Otakon Staff t-shirt, with a blue reflective armband.
What are the hours of operation for Member Accessibility?
Member Accessibility will have someone on duty for all hours the convention center doors are open to the public, including Thursday’s online registration pickup period. However, someone may not be present at the desk during lulls. If this is the case, please see the next question for information on reaching us.
How do I get a hold of Member Accessibility?
During the year, you can reach us by using the email us option through our online contact system. Please select “Member Accessibility” as the topic to ensure your question is sent to the right department.
Please keep in mind that we may not be able to respond to all messages. If you have an urgent concern, please come to the Member Accessibility desk at Registration. If you are unable to travel to this desk, please ask a member of staff to page Member Accessibility. Member Accessibility will dispatch someone to assist, if they are available, but it may take some time to arrive at your location.
Preparing for the convention:
Should I request assistance from Member Accessibility?
You should ask for assistance if you have a medical need, or such assistance would prevent damage to an existing injury. For example, if you have a broken leg, or are pregnant and in your third trimester, you should ask us for assistance. On the other hand, if you have a large costume, or are tired from walking all day, we apologize, but our department cannot assist you.
What qualifies me for Member Accessibility assistance?
As stated above, any medical need will cover you. Some examples:
a condition that limits movement;
something that alters your ability to navigate stairs;
something that limits your travel distance;
a condition that causes pain while standing or walking for an extended period;
heart or lung related issues;
recent surgery; or
blindness.
The list is not complete, and only serves as a handful of examples. If you are unsure if you qualify, please contact us before the convention, so that we may investigate, and if necessary, provide alternative advice for you. For clarity, below are some examples that would not qualify for our assistance:
diabetes;
broken arm;
bulky costumes;
limping; or
“I don’t feel good.”
Regardless if you are eligible for Member Accessibility services during Otakon, if you begin to feel unwell during the convention, please take a break, and if needed, ask a friend for assistance. If you experience a medical emergency during the convention, please call 911 immediately.
Do I need a doctor’s note?
If it is not easily apparent that you are in need of assistance, we will ask for some kind of documentation of your situation. Some examples of acceptable forms of documentation are
a doctor’s note on script paper;
prescribed medication for condition in original container, with a label containing your name;
a note from a hospital or clinic on letterhead or script paper;
handicap parking identifier; or
a Maryland MTA reduced fare identification card, or your state or country’s equivalent.
The following are a few things we would not accept as documentation:
over the counter medication;
a note written by yourself or, when applicable, a guardian; or
a doctor's note dated more than two months prior to Otakon.
At the convention:
Picking up your badge
First things first, check into your hotel, if needed, and relax for a little bit. When picking up your badge, go directly to the door, bypassing the line. Indicate to the Otakon staff member (not security) you are proceeding to Member Accessibility. The staff will show you how to get there, or call for assistance if it is needed.
Already have your badge?
Unless your badge has been specially modified by Member Accessibility, you will not be permitted to use any elevator inside the convention center, except the one located nearest to the Member Accessibility desk. If this limitation would prevent you from reaching the desk, please ask any member of staff to page Member Accessibility. We will dispatch someone to your location to escort you to the Member Accessibility desk. During peak times, it may take a long time for someone to come to your location, due to limited staff available to respond.
At the desk
If there is a wait at the desk, please use the provided seating if it is needed. If seating is not available, consult with the nearest member of staff with reflective tape on their arms.
Member Accessibility will ask you to explain your situation, and provide documentation, if it is necessary. We will look at your documentation, or medication, and immediately return it to you. You will be responsible for its safe keeping or disposal.
While it is understandably frustrating, if your needs are not readily apparent, and you do not possess some form of documentation, we may turn you away. So, we urge you to please bring something with you to support your claim.
Upon verification of your claim, we will modify your badge, indicating to all staff that you are allowed to use the elevator and/or have priority access to seating.
Waiting in line
If you find yourself in a long line for an event that provides seating, please speak with the member of staff at the start or end of the line. They will provide whatever assistance they can to ensure you receive a safe seating area.

SO, the very vague language about what is a "readily apparent" disability vs not really concerns me (for just one example: could an ambulatory wheelchair user seen standing from their chair lose their elevator access?), especially when they ask for the kind of proof they do. Just off the top of my head, some problems could include:
medical conditions that haven't been diagnosed formally because sometimes these things take years, or doctors dont believe you, or doctor visits are costly, etc (e.g. I've had a syncope condition since I was 4 that didn't get formally diagnosed until I was 29)
people who can't just pop into their doctors office within a very specific time frame because of schedules (really common! How many of us have had to wait months to be seen for even the most routine thing or urgetnt thing and ended up going to the ER because of that?). People who can't just pop into their doctor's office because of cost (and some of you might say "yeah, but cons cost money", but those are very different costs and maybe someone bought you a pass, or... really all kinds of things that arent anyone's business).
Doctors who straight up won't write you such a specialised note for this. A lot of doctors are busy and won't/can't give you an appointment for this kind of thing, and since it has to be official letterhead or script paper they can't even just send you one via email or an online patient chart portal.
How are they regulating elevator access anyway? If someone is determined "not disabled enough" and they manage to somehow make it up to, say, the 3rd floor anyway by sheer stuborness then, I don't know, find they're gonna faint, what should they do? Hope they dont faint on the stairs and injure themselves possibly horribly? Call 911 unnecessarily and incur the related hospital bills because some random person who... I'm guessing WON'T be a doctor had decided they aren't disabled "enough"?
The specific call outs for diabetes, broken arms, and "I dont feel good".... I give that side eye. If someone with diabetes gets in a bad way while in a hot, crowded, indoor venue (which I'd bet happens to many folks), and they need quick and safe egress, then just... too bad? I don't know much about diabetes but even I seriously question this con telling people who do and who have it what they supposedly don't need. I also remember having a bad shoulder i jury in jr high and high school and having my doctor order that the school ley me use the elevator to move between floors to avoid further injury from a crowded halway. Pretty sure someone with a broken arm at a major con could have the same need. And of course, "I dont feel good" could mean so many things! It could mean I'm gonna have a seizure, or faint, or a whole bunch of things, amd when your cognition is being reduced by such a condition you are hardly gonna be up to explaining to some staff member who is, again, PROBABLY NOT A DOCTOR, that you are about to have an episode and you need fast safe egress. What you probably CAN day is "I dont feel good".
And even if you DON'T have a condition, its late July and a huge convention center full of bodies and noise, and people will be in costumes that can over heat them unexpectedly. Are they really gonna deny someone a help as simple as an elevator ride down a floor or two if they get in a bad way because they aren't officially approved or whatever? People who AREN'Y disabled get sick, too. "Call a friend" yeah people, you know, do stuff alone. And badges are not free. This is not a viable option... not when the alternative is CALL 911. There are all kinds of emergencies that are not 911 emergencies, but ARE I-cant-use-stairs emergencies. WTF.
Anyway, I can go on, but honestly I haven't the energy or constitution for it 😂 But mostly it's the elevator access restriction that's worrying me. I went to Awesome Con in this same place last year and there were NO elevator restrictions, and I didnt see the elevators being over run by people who "didn't need them" (and really, taking the stairs was way more convenient if you could take them). So this isn't a convention center policy but an Otakon one.
I want to contact someone about this, maybe post something on the con or convention center facebook page, but I'm... not really well enough to put it together properly, like what to include or not include. I'm also not too sure of the law here - ADA says sonething about open access for platforms but nothing about elevators. What applies here? Can I try to effect a change anyway, regardless of legal clout behind me?

WKJEFBWKHEFBWE thats so funny i love that youre seeing memes in germany well back before lockdown 3 every region in england was classified into a tier originally there were 3 tiers so for areas with low covid infection rates they were in tier 1, which is like you can meet indoors as a group of 6 from different households, all the shops etc. are open basically as close to normality as we’ve got since the summer here, then tier 2 is the next one up which is you cant mix households indoors but you can meet in groups of 6 outdoors, and then tier 3 was meant to be the strictest one which was you can only meet one person from another household outdoors so pubs etc were shut, and then a few days before xmas the govt introduced tier 4 which was essentially lockdown except schools were still open so non-essential shops/hairdressers/gyms etc were shut and now we’re back in full lockdown schools are closed unis are closed everything is shut we’re only allowed to leave the house for certain reasons anyway i cant lie the tier memes are incredibly funny to me sometimes the british public has rights and their sense of humour is one of the only times

Spider-Man: Homecoming 8.25/10
A solid addition to the pantheon of cinematic Spider-Men. ***random spoiler talk***
-The first half of the movie feels a bit disjointed and jumps from scene to scene… why is this such a common problem with modern movies??? They try to cram so much in the first half and do it so inelegantly, making the movie feel overwhelming at times… The pacing improves from the second half on and really gets going though. -Michael Keaton’s Vulture/Adrian Toomes is one of the better MCU villains in that you can sorta get where he is coming from, and Keaton plays him menacingly but injects some real humanity in him. He’s probably my favorite part of the movie! Hell, he even gets his own leitmotif (when was the last time a marvel villain had one?). My 2nd favorite cinematic spidey villain after Alfred Molina's Doc Ock. -Tom Holland plays a very awkward, eager Peter Parker. Definitely suits a young Spidey just starting to learn about the whole superhero gig and what it means. He makes mistakes and web-slings about in a clumsy manner in the same way a teenager drives a car for the first time. He definitely suits Peter/Spidey better than Andrew Garfield (who was just a creepy jerk, due to a bad script). He’s definitely more teen-like than Tobey Maguire, but we never really got much high school Peter in the original trilogy. Holland even looks kinda like a young Tobey… -While Holland presents a very likeable young Spidey, something about him feels very manufactured and there isn’t much depth to him as I’d like… any issues with him balancing teenage problems with heroics is glossed over, hitting similar beats as the Maguire series but not following through or really using them to add much to the overall plot/themes. While it was cute seeing him deal with petty crime with mixed results, he mostly just whines about wanting to do more with the Avengers, then at the end he decides to just be a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man instead even when offered a full Avengers gig. And i never really felt i was watching him actually swinging around as Spider-Man… he goes from flesh and blood kid to a cartoon character during action scenes (dodgy CGI as usual, lacking a sense of mass/weight). The final action scenes however definitely felt more realistic (when he is forced to put on his old homemade costume), and evoked the climax of the first Maguire film. -The action scenes in general were merely serviceable. You sort of sit there and watch stuff happen but it doesn’t “wow” you as much… there isn’t really anything new or creative being done here. The details of the action sort of leave your head once its over… and some scenes are shot so chaotically you can’t even see what is happening. This is especially true during part of the finale on the cargo plane. Regardless, Vulture looks really cool in every scene he’s in. And it’s neat to see all the alien tech being used in the street level crime. Lots of callbacks to past MCU films and the messes the heroes made, giving us a new perspective on the consequences of battle (like Civil War and Zemo, but smaller). -What new stuff that IS in the action though is great. You get to see spidey out of his element. Him being forced to run on the ground due to lack of tall buildings is fun, and his high-tech suit generates some nice laughs with its overload of Starkian upgrades. I find it hilarious that his suit is voiced by Jennifer Connelly, who is married to Paul Bettany who voiced Jarvis. -The supporting cast is great and gives the movie some nice laughs and character. Ned gets a bit annoying sometimes though due to his constant fanboying, but hell, who wouldn’t go crazy knowing your best friend is an Avenger? Michelle is a deadpan snarker and is also likeable but didnt amount to much (is she really THAT MJ though, or is this a misdirection?). Flash was a modern bully-type and also didn’t do much besides call Peter “Penis Parker” for whatever reason. The whole John Hughes ferris beuller breakfast club vibe sometimes feels more like window dressing, but does help establish what point in his life Peter is in at the moment. Liz was alright, but she seemed more like an object of Peter’s affection for the plot than much else… they lacked any real chemistry together since Peter mostly just gawked at her. -The plot twist….
-Kinda saw it coming, since they kept mentioning Toomes’ family but never showed them. They wouldn’t NOT show them at some point cuz that’d be sloppy storytelling (though wouldn’t put it past them due to past disappointing villains in the MCU). Odds were they were someone you already knew to give some impact, and who else could provide an “Oh Shit!” moment other than Liz? The movie at that point was in dire need of a shakeup before the climax, and a bomb like that woulda done it. And it did. The scenes from then on between Toomes and Peter were fantastic, full of tension. And it gave more personal stakes for the struggle between Peter and Toomes during the climax. I wonder how it woulda been if they revealed this earlier on though and didnt hide the familial relationship… Glad they let Toomes live. Lets Peter be the hero he needs to be. -Tony Stark/Iron Man is in the movie quite a bit, and sometimes it feels like he just pops up suddenly (fishing Peter out of the river is one moment). He has a very nice scene though when he is mad at Peter for the ferry disaster, and RDJr plays him well as a surrogate father deeply disappointed in his son. Happy Hogan is in the film more than Stark and his presence is fun, since we havent seen him since Iron Man 3. Also… surprise Pepper Potts! The three have a great, cute scene together! -Captain America (now a war criminal!) has some funny cameos wearing his goofy Avengers 1 outfit. -Marissa Tomei is a neat new Aunt May, believable as an aunt. And the last gag of the movie was hilarious (with serious consequences for the series!) -The music score is better than the Amazing series but isnt as memorable as Danny Elfman’s score from the first two. Though the orchestral classic Spidey theme over the Marvel Studios logo… bliss. -I could go on more about this movie (who the hell is even gonna read this…), but so far, despite the gripes/nitpicking, it is probably the 3rd best Spidey movie thus far, maybe even 2nd best? Spider-Man 2 is still my top spidey movie, it just felt more cohesive and had better emotional thematic pay-offs, and better action scenes. Spider-man 1 also felt more coherent and wasn’t bogged down by links to a greater cinematic universe, even if some parts of it are a little too cheesy (“Deliver us…” “FINISH IT!!!” “From eviiiiil!!!”). People may complain about Maguire’s portrayal, but in 2/3 movies he felt like a real human being you could relate to. Still, Holland is on his way to being a terrific Spider-Man if he is allowed to come out of the shadow of the MCU.

Smol Call for Venturiantale RPers willing to do AU
https://discord.gg/fAc4D92 *waves!!* PIA's world is an AU. more or less. So all the characters are sort of different, depending on what happened in their version of the timeline, such as: Johnny Ghost and Gregory do not share a body, only him and Casket. Johnny Toast never cured from being a werewolf, but can now control when he turns, besides full moons. also not a vampire. etc. etc. But you see, theres a small problem I cant write half of the Venturian groups characters. and i try to keep them IC, but tend to have different things for them as well, unless they are in a flashback or flashforward. and the timeline Cassie exsists in, takes place only a year after the Puppet arc. and Cassie exsists in the main timeline of the AU. But the AU automatically ages all the characters down as well..So in order to help with you understanding everything going on, lets figure out whats going on there with current takes on personality and crap. Though they can be changed in any way you'd like. Acachallas Billy Acachalla has left his family, and currently stays off the grid with Maddie Friend, while occasionally visited by Sally and Jennifer. He faked his permanent death in order to escape, and keeps trying to convince Sally to do it, and get Sue to do it. Hes alot smarter then in the videos, and tends to act more like an adult then a five year old, unless around Sally, then he just drops it and goes to his video act. (currently has 15 lives left to give and to use.) [17] Sally Acachallas demon side comes out more then just when she doesnt get waffles, and shes broken up with Slenderman. Sally stays peaceful, but isnt as jumpy as normal, her obsession for waffles has also faded quite a bit, due to an incident at the waffle dimension. (currently has 3 lives left) [15] Gertrude Acachalla doesnt care about her children as much, more paying attention to things outside. She stopped caring about the children when they accidentally killed Papa and Spencer, she had a incident where she got mad and made them both lose one life, before locking them in their room. Which resulted in Billy faking his death to escape. Shes more rude and aggresive towards people, and refuses to talk to anyone who tries to help her or bring her back to sanity for her remaining children, often killing them repeatedly until they are out of lives. (Currently has 2 lives left.) [24] Sue Acachalla is a trans female with the mask sewed onto her face due to previous parents. Shes calm and sticks up for her sister, and tends to be able to calm down demon Sally, though sometimes she might get killed by her. Sue spends alot of her time braiding barbie's hairs and sleeping, or talking to Sally. As shes not allowed to leave the house because she looks like a murderer or Burglar. She gets bored alot more often and will go into fits of rage when shes extremely bored, this has resulted in the closet being bombed, twice. (Currently has 2 lives left) [17] Extra Maddie Friend is a crazy and hyperactive girl. She chases people she doesnt like or has been hired to kill around, and currently works at a hospital, and for Jennifer Ghost + Billy Acachalla, as Billy signs her shirts and Jennifer gives her extra pay so she'll keep their secret, and do stuff for them if something needs to be done. Shes kind and outgoing, but carries around a crowbar and/or a bucket of popcorn occasionally, making her seem a little unapproachable (currently has 5 lives left left) [17] PIE Johnny Ghost is a little bit more depressed then usual, and shows off his highly emotional side more, especially when its his family or his best friend in danger, he argues with people alot more and tends to hide in his room afterwards. Hes still extremely arrogant and sassy mind you, but he tries not to let it show as much. //He also has freckles but whatever// (Currently has 1 life left) [26] Johnny Toast is the most loyal fido you'll ever see. Hes calm and collected, but will do anything for his boyfriend boss. Hes a werewolf that has a bit of control over his power, though is still helpless to the full moon. Hes kind and tends to act smart, or talk for Ghost when hes upset or whatever. Hes still shy and stuttery whenever Ghost isnt around though. Hes very protective of everyone in his team, one one of the most supportive people you'd meet. probably has to stop Ghost from murdering Spooker and Colon (currently has 1 life left) [28] Fred "Spooker" Soup is a pure and happy and perfectly chubby boy. Hes kind and bouncy, tending to ignore anything bad going on around him, unless hes screaming and running from a powerful ghost. Hes welcoming to most people, even people that are held captive, making him a good candidate to be a guard if the captives dont know whats going on. He tends to be very protective towards Colon and the girls, as he sees Colon as a amateur, and is assigned to protect the girls with his life. Though he fails at it alot. (Currently has 1 life left) [22] Chris "Colon" Ghostie is a precious politic hating bean. He tends to yell about random stuff, and doesnt talk to people very often. sometimes he wont even be at work because hes doing his side job as an uber driver. Hes completely pure, and is the only one in the team who has not yet commited Man slaughter. So hes the most innocent one he did nothing wrong. (currently has 3 lives left) [24] Jennifer Ghost {One of my characters } Jennifer is an arrogant, bossy, and protective girl, as like her brother. She tends to boss her friends around, and if in a panic, wont hesitate to go boss-mode on the boys. Shes rude and sassy, and isnt afraid to slap someone if shes not getting what she wants. Shes really only kind to Jenna Toast and Billy Acachalla. Occasionally her brother if he needs someone to comfort him and Johnathon isnt around. oh yea she cant read and is extremely terrified of water. (Currently has 1 life left) [15] Jenna Toast {One of my characters } Jennas the gay cousin/friend everyone haves, but no one wants. Shes flirty, and smooth with her words when she wants to convince someone to do something. Shes never afraid to shoot someone, even someone she cares about. She tries to make friends with anyone she meets, but if they're close to one of her best friends? Consider them dead. She will kill anyone who gets in the way of her and her trio of girls. Jennifer knows this, so never lets Jenna meet anyone she cares about..though Cassie has issues. She will happily put a bullet in anything or anyone she finds paranormal, excluding the caskets and her brother. (Currently has 1 life left.) [17] Cassie Anderson {One of EvilsNightmare 's characters } im going off what i know about her pls help me frien Cassie is a character the 'Jennys' picked up, pretty much off of the side of the road. She knows quite a bit about ghosts, to the girl's surprises. Shes one of the 'female trio' of PIE, and sticks with Jenna and Jennifer most of, if not all of the time. Shes fun to be around, besides the fact she can be brutally honest. She currently has a ghost named 'Zayne' haunting her. (Currently has 1 life left) [19???] ~~~~ Ye ye, so theres that, beauty/monstrosity. now, I can do all the characters. but,,,, tend not to??? because it goes like a script in my head and gets boring, i like twists that RPs can bring,,, If anyone wants to RP this with me you can,,, ask,,, lol- and you're welcome to twist the characters any way you like, im just laying base facts down lol.
