I love literally everything you’ve ever written! Could we get an update on the reader in hunger? Maybe on the day of or after poor Henry’s execution
“I want you to see exactly what happens when you don’t do as I say,” Coriolanus whispers, warm breath fanning over your temple as his fingers painfully squeeze your chin, guaranteeing you don’t miss a second of your husband’s execution.
The noose is tied around Henry’s neck, a look of utter confusion and helplessness painting his features as he’s being dragged over the stage.
Adrenaline pumps through your veins, your pulse thrumming beneath the president’s palm.
The peacekeepers tug on the other side of the rope and a void opens under Henry’s feet.
It’s quick. Horrifyingly so. One second Henry’s quivering on the stage, claiming his innocence once more. And the next, he’s hanging lifelessly from the rope, his body limp as his feet dangle in the air.
A shaky breath slips from your mouth.
As you try to look away, Coriolanus’ grip on your face tightens. His body encases yours from behind, his other hand resting on the swell of your waist. He made sure you got the clearest view, on a balcony high above the crowd.
“Watch, dove,” Coriolanus urges softly. Your lips shudder, a hole ripping inside your heart as he forces you to gaze upon Henry’s corpse for long, tortuous minutes. His calm, low whisper against your ear raises goosebumps on your flesh. “I want this image burnt into your memory. So that each time you think of crossing me, deceiving me or leaving me…” His knuckles drag over your tear-stained cheek as he articulates, “You always remember dear, poor Henry.”
Following the execution, the crowd scatters and he nudges your reluctant frame inside the presidential car.
Your tearful gaze lifts to meet his face.
“Can I give him a proper burial at least?” you mumble, still in denial of what you just witnessed. Henry’s dead. Your husband is now a corpse lying on the ground.
You feel as if a sinkhole opened under your feet and swallowed you. None of this can be real.
Coriolanus’ icy stare strays from the tinted window to settle on you.
“Traitors do not deserve one.”
His frosty reply summons chills across your back.
“But he isn’t…Henry’s not a traitor.”
A wicked glint dances in his sea orbs.
“He was to the world, dove.”
“You’re a monster,” you hiss, all the hate you harbor for President Snow bleeding through your tone.
A lopsided smile blooms on his lips.
“Perhaps. But I’m alive, he’s not.” He bends over you, pushing his mouth against yours in a bruising, possessive kiss while holding your chin. “I can do this,” he mutters against your lips. Your breath catches when his other hand creeps under your skirt to tease your folds through your panties. Your appalled expression expands his smile.”…And this. He cannot.”
“Can I please go home?” you beseech.
Coriolanus snickers. “You’re not returning to this shabby place. In fact, I think all of it should burn.” You gasp. “There’s nothing of value there. The only valuable thing, I already have…right here. You will be staying with me, dove, in my house and in my bed.” His thumb sweeps over your parted lips. “Tonight and every other night.”

Baldur's Gate 3 and the Grooming Theme
I am on my second playthrough by now (the Astarion origin) and it really becomes even more apparent how grooming is kind of a central theme with all six of the origin characters. And funnily enough, I am not entirely sure whether it is intentional or more accidental. Mostly because I am not entirely certain whether the creators have realized how much the Gale-Mystra relationship reads as grooming and how much the entire Gith culture is basically about grooming their young into those perfect warriors.
The abuse aspect is fairly clear with Astarion and Shadowheart. If I am not entire mistaken, there is even dialogue in game that calls out Shadowheart's experience as grooming explicitly.
Let me go through all the Origin Six one by one.
Astarion gets basically groomed by Cazador, which kinda partly gets clearer if you consider that while under humans he would have been considered as an adult, among elves he would not have been. With him it is a clearer abuse situation, due to all the torture and violence we know he was subjected to. But Cazador in general tried to turn his spawn into what he imagined them to be. (There is a lot of speculation going on that he focused so much on Astarion, because Astarion reminded him of himself.) We also learn from Astarion that he tried to be what Cazador wanted him to be - though he clearly never succeeded.
Shadowheart embodies one of the most classical grooming scenarios. Often these day we use grooming to refer explicitly to sexual grooming - but the word is also often used in religious contexts, especially when it comes to cults. And yes, basically Shadowheart got kidnapped as a child and quite literally brainwashed to be a follower of Shar. We do not have that many details, but those we have actually do fit rather well with grooming inside of cults. And in her case this happened very clearly with the implicit knowledge of the people doing the grooming of what they were doing.
With Karlach we do not quite know how old she was, when she started to work for Gortash. But from all we learn she was probably in her teens. We have not many dialogues of her referring explicitly to what exactly happened between her and Gortash, outside of him selling her off to Zariel. But we have bits and pieces that sound a terrible lot like lovebombing. Of Gortash always knowing how to praise her that she would feel good about herself. Which, too, is a very typical grooming tactic. And what we know sounds like he kinda groomed her into the perfect bodyguard - before he sold her off.
With Wyll it is the clearest in so many ways, because we see him and Mizora interact with each other quite a bit. And make no mistake, Mizora very much groomed him. He was fucking 19 when he made that contract - and all we learn sounds like tons and tons of gaslighting happening between them, denying him to have any sense of reality. And I mean, just look at the official artwork with the two of them. While canonical there is nothing sexual happening between them (unless you do a Wyll playthrough and do the one night stand with Mizora)... It definitely feels at least somewhat sexually charged and she is quite touchy with him.
There has been a lot of discussion about Gale in this regard. Most of all because we do not get to know that much about how his relationship with Mystra went on. With Gale we do not know how old he is now, we know even less how old he was when Mystra took him in. But it for sure feels a lot like grooming, especially once you consider the inescapable power imbalance between a god and a mortal human. Given that Gale is still very enarmored with Mystra as we meet him - despite her abandoning him - we mostly hear rosy memories from him. But just his entire interaction when she fucking commands him to kill himself... Yeah that sounds a lot like grooming.
Finally there is Lae'zel. With her it is also more the cultish kind of grooming. Because the entire Gith culture under Vlaakith is basically a cult. We kinda see it when we interact with the Gith kids in the Monestary, who very much have absorbed this idea of the culture, going so far as killing and torturing each other. We also see that in Lae'zel if we talk with her about it and she looks at this and is like "Yeah, nothing wrong with that." Personally I found Lae'zel hardest to deal with because of this. Because she has absorbed all this stuff from her culture and when she follows those ideals she still thinks she is doing good/right. Like, Shadowheart can be a shitty person and Astarion definitely is. But they both kinda get that their behavior at times is shitty - while Lae'zel goes "this is right and good!"
Technically speaking we even see this partly in the villains. Orin definitely was groomed into the murder hobo she is. That makes her not the least bit less evil - but it was not as if she ever had a choice to become anything other than a murder hobo. And while I would argue that technically speaking Gortash was not exactly groomed (or maybe he was groomed by Bane?), he definitely also has been turned into a shitty person through childhood trauma.
To be honest, it is all this trauma that comes from all those experiences, though, that makes me just wanna write for this fandom so much. Because... Well, there is so much healing to do for those characters. And all those healing stuff is kinda the stuff I am all here for, when it comes to writing.

A Narrative Defense of Levi Accomplice Theory
Hello everyone! I’m finally back with this post to celebrate the fact that DRDT is back tomorrow! aaaaAAAAAAAA–
For any of you who have no idea what the title means, consider it the second part to my year-old Narrative Defense of Eden Culprit Theory. In this, I’ll go over the narrative reasons why I think Levi being the accomplice (to Eden as the blackened) would make sense and open up interesting opportunities for DRDTdev to explore, if they do choose to go in this direction. I’m not at all trying to prove, evidence-wise, why Levi is the accomplice in this post.
My thoughts on the functionality of the Chapter 2 murder method are basically exactly what @1moreff-creator (nickname FF) outlines in their A Summary of the Levi Accomplice Theory + How We Got Here post. I STRONGLY recommend reading it, both because I think it’s a great read and because as far as I know, the concept of Levi as an accomplice isn’t really talked about outside of it, so it’ll provide some useful context as to why I believe this is a possibility.
That being said, I do want to disclaim this by saying that this post will be a lot more open-ended and speculative than the Eden version. Levi accomplice theory, at least in the context of being paired with Eden culprit, is objectively less likely to be true than Eden culprit theory by itself, and I could definitely see a world in which Levi is either innocent or involved in the crime in some other way.
There’s also the fact that, because I don’t believe Levi will be executed this chapter, there’s a lot more question of where his character is headed. I predicted the trajectory of Eden’s arc to end in a handful of episodes; Levi will hypothetically be facing entirely new motives and twists that I have no way to meaningfully predict, so take all of this with a grain of salt.
Still, I’ve been meaning to make this post for literally an entire year, and I’m not gonna let the “Chapter 2 resumes” deadline pass! So, without further ado, here it is: the long awaited Narrative Defense of Levi Accomplice Theory!
SPOILER WARNING THROUGH CHAPTER 2 PART ONE!
T/W: Murder, blackmail, traumatic pasts
I’m going to follow roughly the same structure as the Eden Narrative Defense, which means that I’m going to be looking at the following topics:
Motive (Why Levi would choose to help Eden commit the crime)
Story Arc (How Levi being the accomplice fits into the overall narrative)
Relationships (How Levi’s relationships impact this writing decision)
Character Arc (How this plays into Levi’s individual character arc)
Wildcard (A specific topic that I think is relevant to discuss for this theory)
These are listed in the order they appeared in Eden’s narrative defense, with Eden’s Wildcard slot being taken up by her emotional breakdown in the Trial and justifying how that wouldn’t be entirely fake/how it would be possible with her still being the culprit. Hopefully that all makes sense!
For Levi, I actually think the best starting point is:
TOPIC 1: Relationships
Because this theory is dependent on Levi helping Eden commit literal murder, I want to start off by examining Levi’s relationship with Eden.
Interestingly, they don’t really interact much of all in Chapter 1; to my memory, the clearest example of them being highlighted in the same scene is when Arei throws a fit over Eden not inviting her to bake with her, where in the same scene, Arei manipulates Levi after he tries to defuse the situation.
However, we open Chapter 2 on the two of them having a rather important conversation. Notably, Levi gets “good person” name dropped in this conversation. For those who don’t know, beneath the “All That Glitters” chapter title, there’s a faint hidden text of “A Good Person.” Pretty much everyone who is called a good person is incredibly important to this chapter (Teruko, Eden, Arei, David, and Levi), so Levi getting hit with the “good person” right at the beginning definitely flags him for importance down the line.
Interestingly, what is said here is:
Levi is called a good person due to his reliability, which clues us into the fact that Eden might be open to relying on Levi, even if it’s for something important. Notably, here, Levi still wants to help others and try to be the best person he can be, despite his slip-up yelling at Ace in the Chapter 1 Trial.
The existence of this scene at all, and especially given the fact that it delves further into Eden and Levi’s mental states as the killing game progresses, seems to indicate that this is a pair to watch moving forwards.
Levi also notably has another relationship that heavily plays into the idea of Levi being an accomplice: Ace.
Ace has spent the chapter telling Levi to fuck off and leave him alone, holding the fact that Levi said he would strange Ace over his head. To me, Levi’s strong reactions to Ace play very heavily into his secret quote:
I always believed that a person is defined by their actions alone. But maybe that’s just a poor excuse for my heartlessness.
(If you don’t know what the secret quotes are, basically, on everyone’s profile page on the tumblr website, there’s a secret quote hidden that you can find by inspecting elements. This is the one on Levi’s page.)
I’ll get more into this later on, but this is a rather interesting quote when paired with Levi taking the action of threatening Ace, but doing it through words alone. You could argue that he didn’t actually do anything, but that’s not completely true. Ace certainly seems to think he did something.
Levi is caught at the crossroads of his words of intent to harm Ace being treated as the true him, but any attempts he makes to reconcile are being treated as “just words.”
However, any actions that Levi tries to take are rebuffed. He can’t repair things with his words, and he can’t take action without violating Ace’s wishes, so he’s stuck. This, of course, frustrates Levi.
This was clearly a big character moment from Levi. It seems like his will to repair things with Ace, at least, is fully gone in this moment. Notably, we haven’t really seen any demeanor change from Levi that I can think of as a result for this conclusion he’s apparently drawn, which raises my suspicions that he’s hiding crucial information from us this Trial.
But, most people who think Levi is set up to be suspicious and giving up on everyone think that he’s going to be the killer. Why do I think he’s going to be the accomplice instead?
Well, a lot of it has to do with the evidence itself, notably the grippy tape and the contraption used in Arei’s killing (see FF’s theory post). But, there’s also the fact that it’s not unreasonable to think that Eden and Levi could’ve gotten scheming here.
While Levi walks off before Teruko, we don’t know exactly what happens afterwards. It seems like Ace got bandaged up at some point (possibly because Eden helped him?), but either way, I could see Eden and Levi talking afterwards about their opinions on everything that happened. And, of course, about their secrets.
TOPIC 2: Motive
For the sake of this theory, I am strongly assuming that Levi’s secret is “You’re a murderer, and you hold no remorse.” If it isn’t, toss this entire thing out the window, because it doesn’t make any goddamn sense.
I think there are two conceivable paths to Levi’s motive for helping out Eden here. I know that in FF’s post, they outline one of them: the possibility that Levi would prefer that Eden escape and everyone else die over the continuation of the killing game as-is. This would be based on Levi’s belief that Eden is a good person, and his increased belief over time that everyone else (including himself) is a bad person, unworthy of living.
I certainly think this is possible, but it leaves Levi’s character off in a bit of a weird spot. Like, okay, he decided to gamble it all on Eden and he loses. Then what? It’s only Chapter 2. There are certainly ways for his character to go, but I feel like at that point, he’s either dragging his feet before dying or dragging his feet before he gets to do his survivor arc. I’m not sure if it would leave enough room to explore his character over the course of who-knows-how-many-more chapters. I have to imagine that, if Levi is the accomplice under this plan, he’d make it through Chapter 3, because otherwise, it seems like the message of Levi is that he gave up and that means he died. But, what would he be doing throughout those chapters?
So, I think that’s a possible read, but it’s not the one I favor. The second read is a little more complicated, but I think it makes sense. Give me a bit to explain it.
This theory really focuses in on my interpretation of Levi’s secret quote, which is again:
I always believed that a person is defined by their actions alone. But maybe that’s just a poor excuse for my heartlessness.
What this says to me, in combination with Levi’s secret, is, “I am only a murderer if I am actively murdering someone.” Sure, Levi was a murderer– but that was in the past!
(Levi makes many cryptic mentionings of his dark past. I don’t know what exactly it is, but I believe that Levi has killed someone, and might not feel remorse for at least one specific killing. It’s also possible that he feels no remorse because that’s just how he grieves– by feeling nothing– which he alludes to in the opening conversation with Eden.)
However, Ace is challenging that belief that Levi has. Can he really change so much just because he’s acting on his best behavior? Besides, it doesn’t really matter; if people think he’s a murderer, what difference is there in how they treat him?
To me, that’s what Levi’s “Why do I even bother?” means. He’s realizing that, with Ace, at least, but also maybe in general, if someone believes he’s a murderer, that’s as good as him being a murderer. In combination with his secret, that means that anyone who learns his secret will treat him as a murderer, immediately burning any relationship they have with him.
It kind of makes me think of the concept of Thought-Action Fusion, which is the psychological term for the belief that thinking about doing something wrong is just as bad as doing that wrong thing. It’s not quite the same, but it’s that kind of idea. Who cares if Levi kills someone or not? If people think he has, he might as well have.
That, obviously, is a bad thing. It’s an even worse thing when you consider that DRDT seems to be a TV show, and MonoTV is threatening to reveal everyone’s motive secrets to everyone in the whole world if no one kills!
This then creates a bit of a paradox for Levi. The only way to prevent everyone from finding out that he’s a murderer is to murder someone on national (?) television.
However, there is one out for him in this situation. If someone else kills before the motive timer is up, Levi gets out of this situation clean. And that’s where Eden comes in.
(For clarity’s sake, I largely think this scene is a joke. I do not think Eden is actually doing anything sinister by “blackmailing” Teruko here, nor do I think either Teruko or Eden would actually think anything malevolent of Eden because of it. However, I’ve noticed that DRDT is very good at slipping relevant ideas or information into jokes, which is why I want to look at this.)
Eden doesn’t need to blackmail Levi, per se. At least, she doesn’t have to actually put the threat out there directly.
What I’m envisioning is basically that, after helping bandage Ace up, Eden goes and checks in with Levi and sees how he’s doing. Levi explains his frustrations with the fact that Ace is treating him like a murderer even though he hasn’t done anything, and it seems like Ace’s belief that he’s a murderer is good enough to condemn him. In response, Eden lets Levi know that she knows what his secret is.
Arei is the one who received Levi’s secret, but I’d be, like, 0% surprised if Eden knew it. Arei said she’d do anything to prove her loyalty to Eden, and especially considering how Arei overheard the secret Eden received, it would make enough sense if she told Eden about the one she received to “even it out.”
So, let’s say Eden says, “but aren’t you a murderer? Your secret says so.” Or something like that. Levi is now obviously in a tricky position, because the answer is, yes, that is his secret, but people aren’t supposed to know that. Eden would then loop Levi into her plan to kill Arei, and they would come to a mutual understanding.
Levi has to cooperate with Eden and do whatever she says when it comes to the crime, because if he doesn’t, Eden could easily reveal his secret. To Levi, that’s a fate worse than death, because it means that he will never be able to escape his past. Conversely, Eden can’t throw Levi under the bus and spill his secret, because then Levi would easily throw Eden under the bus and reveal she’s the blackened in turn. By giving Levi a severe secret of Eden’s own– that she’ll be the blackened– the playing field levels out into one of mutually assured destruction, where both of them respect each other enough to take the other’s secret to the grave if they’re the one who fails.
Eden, I think, would be willing to take this risk in the first place, because Levi is reliable. If she understands how his internal logic operates, she can trust that he’ll see it through to the end. Having an accomplice could make it much harder for people to find out she's the blackened, which is a huge advantage.
For Levi, if you follow my read of his character, this makes sense. His best bet is to help Eden out from a neutral perspective, helping her commit the crime but not dying on the hill to help her win. If Eden loses, she can respect the fact that he didn’t out her and tried to help her. Then, Eden dies, taking everyone’s secrets and the motive to her grave with her. Obviously, the secrets ended up being more or less revealed anyways, considering Arei’s body wasn’t discovered until after the motive announcement, but David is proof enough that the students didn’t know that was how it would be ruled.
Hopefully this makes enough sense! To summarize, I think Levi’s motivation to help Eden is to protect his own secret and survive the motive. The only way to avoid being known as a murderer is to help facilitate a murder without the fact that he was an accomplice ever being exposed. To have his secret revealed is basically death anyways, so risking death if Eden is the killer isn’t the biggest deal in the world.
INTERLUDE 2.5: Arei’s Glove
So, this isn’t part of the narrative defense, this is me repairing part of FF’s theory. Because, Arei’s glove is missing from her body, and FF’s reasoning ended up being “Levi can drop the glove to frame himself as the culprit mid-Trial if needed.” However, because in my world, Levi is still hoping Eden loses (even if he can’t contribute), that seems a bit far fetched. So, I tried to come up with an alternate explanation of why Arei’s glove might be missing.
One of them kinda sucks, which is that Arei was wearing her glove when the water jugs broke, drenching it. Because the turf is weird, you can count on the turf not being wet by the Body Discovery Announcement, but the glove could still be too wet, giving away part of how the crime was completed. Thus, someone hides or pockets the glove so that it doesn’t give something away. This seemed halfway viable to me before I rewatched the investigation, but between the fish being entirely dried out (non-turf that was definitely very wet at one point) and the positioning of the tape marks on Arei’s wrists (which I think would mean the glove would have to be off her wrists when you taped them), I don’t think it’s especially viable.
There’s FF’s original reasoning from a while ago as to why it could’ve been missing, which is that to get a better grip on the spinny thing (carousel), Levi may have put on Arei’s glove. It could’ve gotten scratched up or stretched out as a result, making it key evidence. This is a bit presumptive, but it works enough.
The weirdest thing to me is that it does seem like Arei’s glove was taken off before her wrists were taped. I’d think taping Arei’s wrists would happen fairly early, considering it makes it harder for her to struggle. But, getting her glove off while she’s struggling seems pretty hard.
The third explanation I have is just that Eden asked Arei to take her glove off at some point before Levi showed up, because it would be annoying to tape her wrists with the glove on. Then, Arei’s glove went missing in the shuffle, or they didn’t have a good place to put it because it would be difficult to put it back on once Arei is hung up. They couldn’t throw it in the trash, because Eden planned on the class reconstructing the note they left in the trash. So, instead, Arei’s glove gets stashed somewhere and they hope no one notices it, because if people stop to think about how Arei’s glove was taken off before her wrists were taped, it could point to Eden.
I don’t love any of these reasons, but combined, I think they’re good enough that it’s not a dealbreaker for this theory, at least. Pick whichever one is your favorite and we can go forward from there.
TOPIC 3: Character Arc
If Levi’s relationships have set him up for this, and he has a viable enough motive, what does it mean for Levi that he’s the accomplice? What is his individual story telling us?
I think Levi’s character is meant to center around the concept of what makes a person good, and what allows a person to properly repent. It really seems like Levi has a not-so-good past, something that’s only heightened if he does have the murderer without remorse secret.
There’s also the secret quote, which talks about “excuses” for “heartlessness.” Levi is trying to put his dark past behind him, but it’s incredibly difficult. He wants to move forwards from it, but he doesn’t know how.
If Levi is the accomplice, it provides a really interesting opportunity for his character arc: Levi will then be exposed as an accomplice and be publicly known as someone dangerous and possibly, to some, unforgivable, but he won’t die for it. He’ll have to figure out how to navigate the fact that he does carry the burden of his past actions with him, and he’ll have to learn to cope.
If a character is meant to ask how possible it is to repent, doesn’t it make sense to give an extremely concrete in-universe thing that they need to repent for, and that everyone knows they need to repent for?
I’m not sure exactly where Levi would end up from there. A lot of it depends on the other characters, the motives, and the kill order. I still think it’s definitely possible for Levi to take on the classic Chapter 4 buff curse/sacrifice killer mantle with this, if he decides that the only way to repent properly is to put everyone else above him. However, I do think it’d be interesting to see him fill any slot.
He could be a victim, if his time runs out. He could be a killer, if he decides that he can’t repent, and his only option is to once again try to outrun his past. He could be a survivor if he figures out that the only thing he can do is try to move forwards, accept his past, and try to do better in the future. I’m actually quite partial to the survivor interpretation, but it’s hard to make survivor cast predictions this early.
Either way, I think this totally makes sense as a direction to take Levi’s character in.
TOPIC 4: The “Murderer” Rule
This is my Wildcard slot for this narrative defense. I don’t know exactly what it’ll amount to, but I think it’s worth discussing.
Rule 14: All murderers must be held accountable for their crimes.
If Levi is the murderer without remorse, I wonder if this rule will apply to him. I also wonder exactly what it means. “Held accountable” doesn’t necessarily mean that whoever is a murderer will get executed.
I honestly think a really interesting way for this to go is if Eden gets found out as the culprit on her own, but they don’t realize that Levi is the accomplice. Then, in accordance with Rule 14, MonoTV reveals that Levi was also involved in the crime, and is also functionally a murderer. This forces Levi to be held socially responsible by those around him.
Another option would be that, whenever his secret comes to light, he’s at risk of some kind of execution. I doubt Levi would actually get executed there, considering a lot of the reason I like Levi accomplice theory is because of how interesting it’d be to further pursue Levi’s character post-murder, but it’s certainly possible.
It could also be something that comes up in Chapter 6. This rule feels like it’s a direct result of the mastermind’s worldview or something. If Levi is a survivor, it’s possible that, at the end, the mastermind will try to execute him or something because he’s a murderer. Hell, maybe every survivor will have a claim to be a murderer in some way or another. That’s when the characters will rise up and say that people deserve a second chance, no matter their past. Or something like that, I don’t know. Again, it’s really hard to theorize about the whole game when we only have, like, 1.75 chapters so far.
Anyways, onto the last point:
TOPIC 5: Story Arc
Oh boy, time to theorize about the whole game!
Because figuring out the moral messaging and final result of the last Class Trial at this stage is nigh impossible, I’ve been reading the Story Arc category through Teruko. How would it impact the way we see the story through her eyes if Levi is the accomplice?
Well, an obvious point is that it emphasizes how much you can’t trust anyone. You can’t even trust that there’s only one person with killing intent per murder! I’m sure Levi would be somewhat outcasted if this does all play out, and that would likely tie into a greater feeling of distrust. Between David’s heel turn, the sweet and helpful Eden tearfully being the blackened and facing an execution, and the stoic but previously reliable Levi being both a murderer (secret) and an accomplice (crime) out of nowhere, trust throughout the group would be at an all-time low. I think that’s a good thing; as I’ve said before, at this point in the story, I think we’re still validating Teruko’s worldview. It’s too early for a major shake-up, and to Teruko, these patterns are repetitive. They have to repeat at least a little bit for the audience to truly understand why Teruko acts the way she does.
But, even more than that, I think that DRDT has the makings of a central message surrounding fate.
Everyone’s fate is already sealed, according to Teruko. The Lucky Student cannot die, no matter what. All murderers must be held accountable. There are a lot of big picture makings of the idea that people’s fates are already set in stone, no matter what they do.
Levi is, in many ways, “fated” to be a bad person. He’s fated to be a murderer. Whatever his past was, it seems like he was set up for moral failure no matter what. Seeing Levi fall into that trap of his destiny, being a murderer yet again after being deemed a murderer, also validates Teruko’s worldview that everyone is doomed because they’re already locked into their slots. Even if Levi didn’t die today, he will eventually.
Except, if he doesn’t die immediately, he also has a possibility to invalidate that worldview later. Levi’s survival to a point and (presumed) attempt to repent again, even after everything, could be something that shakes Teruko’s beliefs in future chapters. I’m not saying Levi would be the catalyst for Teruko’s entire character arc, but I think it’s going to take a lot of instances of Teruko being “wrong” to actually change Teruko’s mind. This is one way that we could set up Teruko being wrong, dating back to Chapter 2, so that when we get the payoff, the seeds have been planted all along the way.
CONCLUSION
Hopefully this made sense! It’s been a long time since I’ve fully watched the series, and I only had time to partially rewatch Chapter 2 before writing and posting this. But, I remember a lot of the thoughts I had back when I was in peak DRDT brainrot, and I still believe Levi being the accomplice would make a lot of sense and open up a lot of doors narratively.
Obviously, this is what I currently believe, but even if you disagree, I hope you still found it interesting. I think it’s important to remember, going into these next few episodes, a core principle that pushed me to write the Eden Narrative Defense in the first place: we shouldn’t call something bad writing until we see it executed. Please remember to respect DRDTdev’s writing decisions and creative autonomy, no matter how you feel about the result. I’ll do my best to do the same as well.
With that being said, OH MY GOD I CAN’T BELIEVE DRDT IS BACK WE’RE GONNA GET ANSWERS AAAAAAAA–

Random train-of-thought thoughts...
The thing that I find most difficult is that in the books you know nobody deserves death & you know when characters are justified or not justified in their actions or inactions. But on the TV show I just feel increasingly all-at-sea, especially regarding Lestat seeing as we haven’t had any thing from his own perspective yet and it is just A Lot.
For example, in the books, Lestat does not deserve to die, but Claudia is 100% justified in murdering him… but Louis’ inaction is not entirely justifiable, though it’s understandable and Louis’ passivity and his regret at this is the hinge of the entire novel! You can understand why Louis has anger towards Lestat and Lestat towards Louis and you understand that the love is more powerful and they always both loved each other.
And you know what characters want: Book-Armand wants Claudia dead from the first second he sees her; Armand & Lestat both want Louis alive more than any thing & Lestat doesn’t want Claudia to die, though if it were the only way to spare Louis he’d do any thing. And book-Lestat is in an incredibly fragile place both mentally and physically even BEFORE he arrives in Paris. Book-Lestat literally couldn’t have done the trial the way we saw in E7.
But in the show, all the stuff around memories mean it’s unclear exactly what anyone wants or deserves or is justified or not in in many cases. And sometimes it’s opposite. Lestat truly does deserve death in the show to a degree he doesn’t in the book at all, which is SUCH a huge alteration. If you haven’t read the books I can’t articulate the difference it makes. The fact that Lestat has done absolutely nothing to deserve death in the book HANGS OVER all of the pages where Lestat is not present. It hangs over Louis and obviously it hangs over the trial! Louis isn’t thinking about Lestat all the time in the book because he knows he loves him anyway despite everything as Louis hasn’t realised that yet and is only starting to realise it. He just knows he feels some thing and he knows Lestat was wronged and he misses him.
On the TV show I find it unclear whether Armand actively wants Claudia dead and if so, why? Or to what degree he needs it? I can see Lestat doesn’t want to be at the trial, but it isn’t clear whether he could not bear to see Louis die from this episode. Santiago, confusingly seems to care more about killing Claudia than Louis which makes zero sense…. And I don’t understand the why of everyone. The clearest character is Madeleine, who simply loves Claudia & that’s it.
I hope it can all become clearer, but I don’t feel 1 episode is enough for that…?
More notes:
Anyone know what Santiago says to Madeleine? Clearly hypnotising her, but what does he say? And why is she hypnotised. Just because she is irrelevant, so to keep her quiet?
Why would Santiago want to torture Claudia pre-trial more than Louis? He absolutely despises Louis more! So it doesn’t make sense to me why it’s Claudia who’d be put in the rat box?
“With additions made by The Vampire Lestat de Lioncourt” added to the play script. How is this achieved? Lestat’s telling? Invading Lestat’s mind?
Incredible acting by everyone
Why did Santiago just go with the audience’s decision for banishment?
Some kind of DreamStat in Dubai? It felt that way…
Let’s talk Lestat:
I had expected something similar to Armand’s E3 story-Lestat: a very twisted version so was pleased this episode isn’t that. Lestat sometimes seems very much his real-self… and at other times he seems like he does’t know what he’s doing… but the times he is his real-self, why doesn’t he scream about the fact that Louis is about to be condemned to death here!?!?! I mean…. It is exquisite the way Lestat first looks at Louis, with no mercy… then turns away, a broken thing - the acting by Sam.... but like... is Armand in his head the entire time and we just don't know it yet? Some of it must be from Lestat's own volition or he would not be able to go off-script the way he does. The trial feels very different to the books.
It’s an odd mix of what seems very true and what seems total lies - there’s enough of real-Lestat that it feels real a lot of the time, but then it’s a weird mix of sincerity and insincerity crushed against each other and it’s hard to feel from when you can’t entirely tell the boundaries of this…
Lestat’s first speech is obviously scripted and it feels like Lestat is on autopilot almost. When he says “It’s a story of love, not butchery” I already can’t tell if that’s scripted or if it’s Lestat going off-script? BUT pointing out Armand’s influence on Nicolas’ death must surely be off-script?
After the “Come to me” bit, where Lestat displaces what he did onto Louis, which is clearly a (scripted) lie Lestat tells, we see Armand looking some way, then Lestat sits & looks exhausted/devastated… I wonder if Armand is mind controlling Lestat there to get him to say that? But it’s very confusing as at other times Lestat is clearly sincere & even goes off-script to be sincere, so it is quite confusing what we are/are not supposed to question…. I also noticed Sam mouths the words of Lestat’s Nicolas story along with Lestat speaking that, so he must have written that part of the script….
Obviously the take down of the homophobic soldier was incredibly satisfying…
I am reminded of when Claudia said the best lies contain truth, but it’s a lot.
At least Daniel knows Armand isn’t telling every thing truthfully…
So! Let’s get to my least favourite thing - The Drop. I believe the drop happened after this episode. I do not see any way it didn’t. The fight was pretty much as I expected inside. Though Louis said crueller words than I expected, I guess.
But it seems to me the writers have decided to lessen Lestat’s responsibility in making Claudia, but to up his wronging of Louis - Louis who Lestat NEVER WRONGED!
While in themselves, these changes could be perceived as minor, the impact they have on the characters is massive.
As I say, I do believe the drop happened now. That off-script apology - I do not see it being taken back or not being real. That definitely wasn’t Armand making Lestat say that on stage, and in Paris Armand’s book-canon Lestat-drop wouldn’t have happened yet. The whole feeling of it felt 100% real and a genuine apology. It is what it is, but for me in terms of the writing it is 100% a mistake because it is a misunderstanding of the essence of Lestat. Lestat would not do that to Louis. Specifically, to Louis. I cannot say it is in any way even in the spirit of Lestat. And it seems very odd the show is including it because actually they’re emphasising the relationships more than the books so it matters even more in my opinion! But, I accept that Lestat dropped Louis on the show. I see no alternative scenario. The implications of it will carry through Loustat’s entire relationship though and I do not like it. The ending of Queen of the Damned, if they go with it as written will be SO different in feel as well, which even though that is so far away, makes me sad to even imagine how different it must feel already.
I get why there is an alteration with Claudia due to her being very different from in the books… but in the end I feel this episode should have been all about Claudia and I didn’t think that much about her or feel that much from her because there was so much else I was trying to work out, I suppose? The biggest feeling was Madeleine choosing her, which was beautiful. But not big enough. Claudia deserved more.
Preview for next episode shows Louis seeing Lestat locked up AFTER the trial and with the fire gift, presumably going to kill him. At first I was panicked that Lestat would *only* be seen locked up after the trial (and I am sure that’s what Armand will tell Louis), but we saw Lestat in that trailer in a different outfit, so we must see him pre-trial locked up too.
Yeah… my brain feels fried. I did think Lestat would be painted more-the-villain than he was. But the way things were it feels very confusing. I couldn’t even guess what percentage of that trial was exactly as it happened and what percentage not…
But anyway, the episode was beautifully acted...

I keep thinking about the lore implications of there being an Eclipse in the living world and an Eclipse in Purgatory. Like, to me, this is the clearest confirmation we have that the Eclipse we currently have in the show is not the Eclipse that was killed in Solar’s dimension. Unless the purgatory Eclipse was the original Eclipse, but I kind of doubt that due to the fact of Solar Flare’s presence. This means the living Eclipse is 100% just a copy.
I mean, this pretty much has already been confirmed by a lot of characters, including Ruin and Eclipse himself. But every time it gets reaffirmed, I just feel more sad about the situation. His treatment by Moon after he came back, and from Lunar up until they had that talk in the atrium. Even his treatment from Sun. I can’t blame any of them for how they acted, they are justified in what they did, but it’s just sad. It’s clear to us from an audience perspective that this Eclipse, while having Eclipse’s memories, wasn’t actually our Eclipse. His memories were much like Bloodmoon’s when they were brought back by Ruin. “Memories” taken from the show, second hand clips that may have shown what happened but had no feeling attached. It’s even explained that his coding is taken from Solar’s, and was rewritten to be more like Eclipse. He was quite literally made to act the way he acted. None of what he was doing was of his own free will. He even explains this in the episode where he kidnaps Ruin. He knew everything he was currently doing wasn’t something he would have done had he been in control of himself.
It is Eclipse, by design, but it’s not the one who died.
That Eclipse is still chasing the unachievable in a sort of purgatory state. He is still stuck on gaining a sense of justice he will never get. Even after his death, where he explained how tired he was, he continues to seek his vengeance.
This whole situation is just sad. The Eclipse we knew from the beginning of the show will never actually get to heal from his trauma. The living Eclipse may be getting the redemption arc we’ve been asking for, but honestly, it doesn’t feel like a proper redemption. If the person being redeemed didn’t actually do the wrong, does it count as redemption? He has the memories, but he didn’t actually perform the actions. The Eclipse in purgatory did.
I’m not complaining about the writing. I’m very happy that we are getting a redemption arc for Eclipse in the first place. It’s just sad. The person that would have been helped heal during that process is dead, and the person in his place was forced into the situation.
Honestly, in my opinion, this situation explains “not everyone can be helped” much better than Bloodmoon’s story did. The only reason Eclipse is getting help now is because, in so many different aspects, he isn’t that person. That person is gone, and will never be able to be helped. Even when he had a chance to be helped, he pushed in away in favor of achieving his chance at revenge until it was too late for him to be saved. Even now, dead in the afterlife, he’s fighting for that chance.
In the end, I just have to hope that this Eclipse gets all the help the old Eclipse never got.

Scott Snyder’s portrayal of the relationship between Bruce Wayne and Alfred Pennyworth is one of the most fascinating dynamics in his Batman run. At the core of nearly every Batman story Snyder writes, this relationship takes center stage. And more than Bruce and Alfred, it revolves around Batman and Alfred. I’m not separating the two because I see Bruce and Batman as separate entities, nor do I think that Scott Snyder views them as such, but rather that Alfred himself makes this distinction. Alfred views Batman as a force, a demon that has consumed Bruce, transforming the child he raised into something unrecognizable, and this perception shapes much of their interaction. This nuanced view of Alfred's internal struggle is rarely explored to the same degree by other writers.
One of the clearest expressions of this is in the Zero Year arc (Bruce’s return to Gotham and the birth of Batman) and Superheavy/Bloom arcs (where Bruce loses his memory and forgets that he was ever Batman).
In Zero Year, Alfred repeatedly tries to dissuade Bruce from becoming Batman, going so far as to refuse to help. Alfred’s greatest wish is for Bruce to just be Bruce—a sentiment that becomes poignant in a particular scene where Julie Madison (Bruce’s first love) waits for him before a date. Alfred imagines a world where Bruce chooses a life with Julie, where he’s happy, married, with children. This vision is Alfred’s dream, one in which Bruce finds peace and fulfillment outside the cowl. But reality is different. The scene abruptly cuts back to Alfred telling Julie that “He’s (Bruce) spoken for"—Gotham. Alfred knows that Gotham, and the Batman, will always claim Bruce.
This sense of tragedy continues in Superheavy, where Bruce, having lost his memory, is free from the burden of Batman. Alfred sees this as his long-awaited chance to have Bruce back. He keeps Bruce’s life as Batman a secret, even hiding Bruce’s kids because they’re too closely tied to his past as Batman. This decision is heartbreaking for the kids – each one tries to get close to Bruce to see if their father is still there, if by some miracle he will remember them but nothing…
Of course, the status quo can’t last, and Bruce eventually has to return to being Batman. Snyder introduces the idea that Bruce had been building a machine capable of creating new Batmen after his death, believing Gotham will always need its protector. That machine has all of Bruce’s knowledge that he gathered over the years and the goal of the machine is to input that into the subject’s mind. Batman before Bruce lost his memories hadn’t been successful in getting to work. However, Alfred and Julie (no memory Bruce was dating Julie and it was quite serious, Bruce was basically living with her) find out how to make the machine to work…the subject’s mind has to be completely wiped and replaced by Batman, essentially they need to kill the subject – Bruce. Batman was having a hard time getting it to work because Batman doesn’t kill. Alfred refuses to do it, killing Bruce to get Batman is literally his worst nightmare coming to life. He doesn’t want it to happen and being the one to make it happen is even worse. Julie ends up being the one pulling the trigger (in the new 52, she’s related to Joe Chill so this is also used to have some poetry over being a “Chill” that creates Batman twice). And once again, Bruce is consumed by Batman, leaving Alfred’s vision of a peaceful, happy Bruce shattered.
Now what is interesting about the Absolute Batman Universe is that Bruce and Alfred don’t know each other. Alfred and Batman meet for the first time in the first issue. This issue is written in Alfred’s perspective which is very clever for two different reasons: 1. Alfred acts both as the audience’s stand-in and as the expose machine; 2. Once again, Alfred and Bruce are at the core of Scott Snyder’s writing; from the beginning, we can see the parallels between both relationships and their differences. We see this Alfred stalking both Batman and Bruce, but more importantly, contrasting with Main Universe Alfred, Absolute Alfred doesn’t separate Bruce and Batman from each other. Instead, he sees them as complementary halves. He even mentions that in other circumstances, he wouldn’t hesitate to kill Batman – he’s a very dangerous individual but he sees that Bruce is just a kid, a kid that loves the city that has taken so much from him, a kid that works hard everyday to fix his mistakes, a kid who wants to help people, a kid with a mom that already lost so much. And because Batman is Bruce, he makes the decision not to kill him. Main Universe Alfred seems to have the two personas almost completely separated in his head while Absolute Alfred doesn’t. I wonder if that’s only a matter of time and as Alfred and Bruce get closer, Absolute Alfred will also have the two personas getting further apart in his head and grow a resentment/hate of Batman. Right now, Absolute Alfred doesn’t hate Batman, the only reason why he’d kill him is due to his superiors, not his own ideals. In fact, we see Alfred go against orders in favor of Bruce, albeit very minor – I assume that in the climax of this arc or some upcoming arc, Alfred will disobey orders in a very dramatic way leading him to quit working for the British government and become a full time ally to Bruce/Batman.
There are some key similarities between both Alfreds across universes. Both worked for the British government, have a daughter named Julia, and struggle with being absentee fathers—choosing their duty over their personal lives. In both cases, Alfred’s dedication to his work (which in the main universe that’s taking care of Bruce), overshadows his role as a father to Julia, a parallel that resonates with Bruce’s own struggles balancing his responsibilities as Batman and as a father to his own children. This shared sense of duty above personal life may explain some of Bruce’s own questionable parenting habits. It’s likely Bruce learned most of what he knows about fatherhood from Alfred, since his memories of his own parents are more rooted in their deaths than in their lives. It’s very uncommon for him to share happy memories that he has of his parents or any sort of memory for that matter of them that doesn’t involve their murder. Unfortunately our memories fade, especially when not exercised/touched upon. And even if he did remember how his parents raised him, they only did so until he was 8 – this is played for laughs in Harley Quinn show when Bruce is dealing with Damian and turns to his brand new ressurected zombie parents (yeah they come back as plant zombies for a bit) and says “Teens, right? Oh, right. You died when I was eight. Well, they're a handful.”
What’s clear in Snyder’s writing is that Alfred, despite his inner conflict, was a good parent to Bruce, instilling in him a sense of care and responsibility. This is especially evident in Death Metal, where Bruce speaks highly of his children, showing a deep affection that echoes Alfred’s own love for Bruce. In this way, Scott Snyder’s Alfred is one of the most affectionate versions of the character, despite the tension between his love for Bruce and his hatred of Batman.

Lan Zhan in glasses
One day Lan Zhan comes to school wearing glasses and Wei Ying loses his god damn mind…
painted in light, by curiositea (🔒, 2nd in a series)
Sometimes Lan Qiren wonders if his nephew resents the rabbits, even if only a little, for making it impossible to completely bury his grief. Are they companions or yet another reminder? Lan Qiren has always prided himself on knowing his nephews, understanding A-Zhan’s reserve and A-Huan’s polite façade. But, without the rabbits, he wonders if he would know just how deep—how down to the marrow, the very atom—A-Zhan’s grief goes.

I Tried to Be Nice, But My Boyfriend's Bunnies Want To Beet You Up, by katje (🔒, 2nd in a series)
If you had told Wei Ying a few months ago that he would be desperately trying to hold two twenty-five-pound rabbits (who were far heavier than they should be because of their indulgent fathers who were incapable of refusing them treats) back from completely decimating Awful Su She’s stock of bok choy while trying to run his own booth at the Farmer’s Market, he would’ve laughed at the absurdity of the mental image of that statement.
But, dear reader, that was not only a mental image, but Wei Ying’s reality every week for the entire summer season.

Lan Wangji nods. “If you must marry,” he says again, “don’t let it be with anyone else.”
“I don’t think you understand the concept of marriage, Lan Zhan,” Wei Wuxian says with a smile. “I don’t think I can marry myself.” He lets out a laugh at the thought, before Lan Wangji’s words click in his head. “Unless you mean…”
Lan Wangji holds his gaze.
“Jiang Cheng?” Wei Wuxian asks incredulously.

Rabbit Charm, by aoeros (🔒)
“You gotta promise me that when you’re back home and settled in, I’ll be the first you come to see. Because I’m going to miss you more than anyone else will, Lán Zhàn. Except your brother, of course.”
“Of course. I promise to come find you first after I’ve settled back in.”
“Great! Then I promise to call you whenever I can. And, I will definitely not forget you.”
I got kidnapped by a model???, by yamadori (Katsumi27)
In retrospect, it was only a matter of time. As much as he wanted it and believed it to be possible, it was silly to think he could get through art school on Madame Yu's dollar. No, it's definitely better this way.
Wei Wuxian finally gets kicked out of art school. In the past three months not a soul from his old life has heard from him and he'd like to keep it that way thank you very much. And although it's been far from easy, things are starting to look up for him. That is, until he's dragged bodily into a world of vanity and flashing lights that he has no business being in and shoved into the arms of the worlds most gorgeous man (or at least man-shaped heavenly being, Wei Wuxian is convinced he can't be mortal).
Lean On Me (An Anthology of Jin Ling's Uncles), by thesassyredvulpes
Six months after the events of the Guanyin Temple, the sixteen-year-old Jin Ling rises to his new role as Clan Leader Jin. As the youngest clan leader in history, he faces challenges and looks to different figures in his life for guidance.
Six men individually offer their insight to the young man, and through him, recall their own stories and identities.
A collection of short stories, inspired by the song lyrics of "Lean On Me" by Bill Withers. Borrows both canons of the Untamed and The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation, but leans more towards the live-action.
Story One: Sorrow (Jiang Cheng)
General:
An Unforseen Shift, by Remma3760
Wei Wuxian found a resentful sword deep in the bowels of a famed beast. He took it. That turned out to be fortunate since, it would seem, the sword had more than one purpose. That sword was the key to their escape from certain death trapped in the cave of the Slaughter Xuanwu.
The Unintended, by Indelible_Faith (TheWaterGoddess), Thedivinewriter_20
Jiang Cheng and Nie Huaisang have a perfect plan. Get Lan Wangji to confess how much Wei Wuxian annoys him out loud. And Jin Zixuan to confess his ill-treatment of Jiang Yanli in a similar manner.
Perhaps “confess” was the wrong word used here… because this is not turning out how they imagined it, at all!

Rewatching the HTTYD series as a fictive that formed years before the third movie is funny to me, because here I am on screen, marrying and having kids with Astrid. And yet, my clearest exomemory is her breaking up with me.
No bad blood, she just liked girls and well, I’m not one. I still love her in a more found family way. I just… can’t picture myself literally marrying her when she was so much happier with Heather. I don’t have any memories of the third movie at all, since I formed years and years before it. So it feels like watching a fanfic to me, a really sad one because wtf I want my dragon back please, give him back dreamworks.
That whole Hiccstrid endgame ship is always going to be so amusing to me, I can just imagine her watching it and muttering that “nobody knows I’m a lesbian” song any time we interact in a romantic way on screen.
Astrid if you’re out there, I still love you and care for you as family, and there’s no bad blood at all. I hope somewhere out there you and heather are living the warrior cottagecore life you always wanted.

Making yet more Sonic fankids! These be Dash and Nova from an AU where Sonic is a divorced single dad! Failed relationships galore in this AU!!
Bit of an info dump about them below the cut. Tho there's still a lot more that isn't mentioned coz I don't want this to get too long... You can ask them stuff if ya want! :)
Dash (actual name is David but no one really calls him that) is Sonic's first kid from a failed relationship with Amy. They got married too young and had a kid way before they were really ready. But where Sonic was able to adapt to being a parent, Amy wasn't able to.
Amy had stubbornly clung to her childhood crush and the dream of marrying the handsome hero, settling down with the white picket fence and the big family, but when she finally got everything she wanted instead of being happy she found herself feeling empty instead. She only realised that this wasn't actually the life she wanted for herself after she'd she'd given birth to Dash and by then it was too late. Things only got worse from there, in both her marriage and relationship with her son.
She and Sonic stayed together for a while but really only due to social conventions. Neither really wanted to stay together but they were just sorta stuck. One day Amy saw how much of an angry, hateful person she had become and just couldn't stand it anymore. So one day when Sonic was out, she just packed up and left, leaving divorce papers for him to sign and a note that said he could keep the house. At that point Sonic was so emotionally drained that he was honestly just kind of relieved it was over.
Dash doesn't have many memories of his mum, and the few he does have are not that great tbh. The clearest memory he has of her is the day she abandoned them. So yeah, he does not have a great relationship, and does not desire to have one, with Amy. Even after she and Sonic reunited and reconciled their friendship years later. He loves his dad tho and otherwise is having a pretty great childhood.
Nova was created by several GUN scientist that went rogue. They stole the confiscated genetic research done by Starline and combined it with what was left of Project Shadow to create a new living weapon for their own purposes. Fortunately they were discovered before they could finish their schemes, and they only specimen they managed to create was taken by Shadow.
He brought her to Tails and Sonic, mostly coz he didn't know what to do with her, and no longer trusted GUN security. And also the fact that she was made with Sonic's DNA too. Nova is constantly in a semi-super state, which is not good for her coz unlike her dads who when they run out of energy in super state would revert back to normal, she can't. So she taps into her own life force instead. Her inhibitor rings block most of her power and regulate her energy so that doesn't happen. Unlike Shadow's, they don't come off.
Nova might look like about 12-ish, but she's actually only about 4 years old. And she acts her age too. When she was first brought home she couldn't walk, talk or do much of anything really. Which of course made everyone very concerned about her development. Shadow had worried he'd been too hasty in pulling her out of her incubation tube. Sonic was the one to figure out that tho her body looked older she was, in fact, a literal baby and thus would need to learn how to do everything the same way a literal baby does. Good thing he already had experience raising one baby already.
Shadow moved in together with Sonic to help raise Nova. They got really close during this time, even tho they were constantly arguing over how to parent their tube baby. Shadow ended up being confronted with a few revelations about his "childhood" aboard the Ark as well as even more complicated feeling he had towards his creators. He found himself trying to push the same image of perfection onto Nova that had been placed on him, and being at odds with Sonic as a result. Over time he came to feel inadequate as a parent, especially given Sonic's methods tended to work better than his most of the time. After the first year he began to pull away and by the end of the second had moved back out entirely.
Nova was sad that Shadow isn't around as much anymore, tho she's a little too young to fully understand everything. For the most part she is a happy, healthy little girl who loves her daddy (and her other daddy too!) and her super awesome big brother!

au where amy actually caught up to raphael before before he could get himself killed
Apologies for the week-long wait on this one. Without further ado...
Amy follows Raphael from the get-go, motivated by the fear of losing her adoptive father and wondering just how he means to bring about a "perfect world" for her.
Flashbacks along the way. It pains Amy to remember that her clearest memories of her parents are from around the time of their deaths. And to say nothing of the loneliness thereafter...
Amy catches up to him near Ostrheinsburg. Raphael tries in vain to convince her to stand back, but she grabs him by the wrist until his paternal instincts win out.
Of course, Nightmare will have no shortage of challengers if he doesn't get to him. But Raphael won't want to wait around for Soul Edge to drop from his hand.
Raphael overhears the sword shattering and Nightmare's last yells of rage and, oh no there goes Raphael's whole scheme. To say he won't take it well would be an understatement. I mean literally scrambling for shards of Soul Edge.
These are fun to do! Here's a link to the ask game for anyone else who wants to play along.

Doctober 2023 prompt #29: 2023
Warning: Long post
I dragged my bestie to go see the Broadway musical version of bttf earlier this year. IT WAS WONDERFUL. 💝💝💝
We watched it back in August, so my memory isn't the clearest and I'll probably forget something, but this is a long enough post as is.
SPOILERS FOR THE MUSICAL BELOW
I mean, its just the movie but in musical format, but they add things here and there that surprised me, so if u like to be surprised... there's your warning
My friend and I sat in the middle of Row F (highlighted in green above). We wanted to be close, but not super close to have to look up at a weird angle. It was crazy to be so close AND SUPER WORTH IT. When the actors look out into the audience you can really feel like they're looking at you (from their POV they prolly dont see anything because the lights) its a really cool experience! 🤩🤩
OK SO MY FAVORITE LINE FROM THE MUSICAL THAT HAD ME ROLLING BECAUSE IT WAS SO UNEXPECTED WAS: "Is this what they call 'white trash'???" I won't spoil the full context bUT HE WAS REFERRING TO MARTY AT THAT MOMENT.
The Earth Angel scene made me love and appreciate the scene in the movie, and the song EVEN MORE THAN I ALREADY DID. THEY EVEN BROUGHT OUT THE BUBBLES AND IT WAS A WHOLE VIBE (yet another reason why I was grateful we sat in the front). They nailed the execution of the scene, people were cheering and everything during the kiss. Even I got hyped, whereas before, when I was just watching the movie, I was like 'aight.'
The atmosphere in the theater hit different frfr. When Marty and Doc reunited at the end and hugged, I let out a little, "Yay!!" They had such good chemistry on stage, my favorite moments of them were when one of them would say something crazy and then the other would go, "What?" And then the other would go, "What??" And confusion ensues.
AND THEN, AS IF UNEXPECTED STUFF DIDN'T ALREADY HAPPEN, THE MOST UNEXPECTED THING HAPPENED AT THE END. THE DELOREAN FLEW.
IT FLEW.
INTO THE CROWD.
RIGHT ABOVE US.
AND THAT MADE IT SUPER WORTH IT TO SIT CLOSE TO THE FRONT. I wonder what it looked like from the balcony though...
Can we just take a moment to appreciate Hugh Coles??? He single-handedly made me appreciate the character of George after seeing his performance.
Look at this mad lad, he got all the photos of Crispin Glover on his mirror 😱😱😱 manifested this man frfr
He's one yarn ball away from an 'I'm crazy' wall
The SASS
Man said 🚶♂️💅 AND IM HERE FOR IT
Ok, last pic, the matching pose 🤩💘
FR HE NAILED THE CHARACTER PERFORMANCE, IT WAS INSANE. You really gotta see it to believe it. mf from west end too so imagine my surprise when I heard him in an interview with an accent ☠️☠️☠️
Literally me throughout the whole musical:
I knew I was going to like the musical, but what I listed out here is basically the reason why I LOVED the musical. I love surprises so that's a big part of it as well.
Fave song: Used to be 'Put Your Mind To It' then it was 'It Works' but I think I settled on 'Something About That Boy' I just love duets and overlapping lines in songs. [But we all know the best song is Cake 💅]
TL,DR: The bestie and I went to see bttf the musical. i am a changed man... and now im here 🙃

The Hero Isn't Special
This is inspired from my convos with @girasolen because it got me thinking, because boy oh boy I love me some narrative foils.
This is an entirely headcanon idea, but I really like the fact that for the entire game, this question is never answered.
Even long after you complete the game and defeat Arceus and complete all the quests and stories, this question is never answered. Why are you, after all, chosen to be Arceus' champion? Sure in the real world it's a video game and it has to be broad and appealing for all gamers, but I think there is answer as to why you're more special than Volo:
You aren't.
Volo is actually just as equally qualified to be a hero as you are. Hell, probably even more. He's a native of this land and it's culture, he knows the history, hell- the guy can use 8 pokemon in a battle. The guy is more than qualified by miles.
But why are you chosen instead of him? What's the secret to you being the chosen avatar of the all-encompassing deity?
There isn't!
It's you.
Now hear me out, what the hell do I mean by that? I mean that you yourself are special because you believe you are capable of being special. You and the rest of the people in Sinnoh believe you are special. In that belief that you can accomplish anything, you in a weird turn of self-fulfilling prophecy, become the champion of Arceus.
This is going to sound cheesy as hell, but the clearest comparison I can make is from the ending of Kung Fu Panda: where "there is no secret ingredient" to being a hero. Even in the face of an opponent who is infinitely stronger than you, if you take that leap of faith in your potential you could (hypothetically speaking) accomplish anything.
Without making this sound like a manifestation mantra for girlbosses, a better way to describe it is the concept of The Fool's Journey. The Fool is essentially an archetype in stories, most notably the tarot, where they are an inexperienced hero who essentially knows nothing.
You, a person who fell from the space-time rift, are a fool in this world. You come here with essentially your memories more or less gone, with nothing to your name but the shirt off your back. You are the fool, the hero, who is essentially starting from ground zero. But with that nothing you also have potential to grow and learn, to learn about this world you fell into and all that it encompasses.
Volo is (somewhat) a foil to this. While in his eyes he does go through his own "hero's journey" (which I'll elaborate in a post another time) he is canonically a character who is curious to a fault of learning the truth about the world and the nature of the universe. He is cunning, silver-tongued, and a skilled wielder of pokemon. Volo is not The Fool. He is a character who is knowledgeable and prideful in his own skills.
Volo is The Magician.
In terms of tarot, The Magician is essentially a master of his craft, one that bends his will to manifest his skills in ways that amazes those around him. However, The Magician is the card that comes after The Fool. The Magician may seem a master in most eyes, but at the end of the day he is deceitful and full of tricks. It's all show. Volo is a character who very directly told to be someone who seeks the truth, the answer to everything. And being his name is literally the translation for willpower, that ambition is reflected very blatantly in his final battle.
The Fool, the hero, has nothing. They have no special skills. But through that nothing their potential is infinite. That is why you are chosen instead of Volo. You aren't special. But because it's you, that makes you special.
#pokemon legends arceus#pla#volo#pla volo#text#headcanons#couldnt fit this in the body of the post so adding this here: if you told volo this he would HATE it.#nothing would piss him off more than the idea that the answer is actually nothing. that there is no answer. that would drive him up the wal#hence what i feel is the difference between the player and volo is but gosh i adore the foils and character archetypes#the fool is the magician is the fool is the magician

To avoid thinking about the new musical here are the rest of my innit setlist thoughts
Starship:
Joey’s status quo retweet is literally begging for him to prove it and *I* am begging for a 2019 wrong to be righted. There is still that opening for an updated rogues medley for kick it up a notch but I don’t think we’ll get it
Holy musical batman:
Superfriends feels like the obvious and most likely choice and if they do a song from each show, as they better, they can’t leave it out
AVPSY:
Asking for status quo AND sidekick is probably too much but man oh man would sidekick go so fucking hard. It is also the best pick for this show tbh
Twisted:
Twisted is hard because how do you replace Dylan. Give a thousand and one nights to brian and meredith or something idk
Ani:
Ani, with my own eyes, the force or back on top with or without additional vocals but let Clark sing
TTO:
Naked in a lake is legitimately one of my clearest memories from homecoming it’s so fun. Underdog choice lost without you I love that song and Jaime’s a queen
Firebringer:
Two words: climate change. But I do also love the finale song so much. We don’t need we got work to do but they’ll probably do it. Song that won’t happen that I would go feral for is together. Or literally any other lauren song
TGWDLM:
Title song or inevitable could be fun?? Otherwise cup of roasted coffee or show stopping number more likely
BF:
As it’s my favourite corey song, our doors are open. I don’t even have to say I’d go feral for adore me
NPMD:
I will be so hyped for ANY NPMD song because it’ll be the first live performance outside the show. But hatchet town maybe???
NMT:
Including this just to say I’m so open to queen b please and thank you
VHSCCs:
I don’t fuckin caaaare that it’s not christmas it’s either this or they come back to perform it in full. The opening line of Bah Humbug in London hello?! Or cold cold streets?!?? If they did priceless I’d throw up
#i think i struggle with these because i only very rarely have an out of the box idea lmao#it truly will be so hype no matter what they sing

Garrance: How to Save a Life
I live laugh love Garrance and I once edited the first part. And ever since like one day, I listened to How to Save a Life by The Fray and went "omg..." AND WAS LIKE THATS THEM!! It was actually in like 2021 and it was me imagining if I had artistic talent and making a general MCD edit of it but slowly its turned into a predominantly Garrance theme song for me and like. I NEED TO SPREAD THIS AGENDA!! Just a heads up, its 1am for me rn, I don't remember everything the clearest, and I'm literally just rambling so it wont be too organized or have consistent grammar or writing styles. ANYWHO cue the music
Step one, you say we need to talk He walks, you say, "Sit down, it's just a talk" He smiles politely back at you You stare politely right on through Some sort of window to your right As he goes left and you stay right Between the lines of fear and blame You begin to wonder why you came OKAY SO LIKE THIS WHOLE FIRST PART I always envision it as late season 1 Garrance. Specifically when Garroth had his depressive episode (WHICH BY THE WAY GUYS WAS NOT HIM BEING AN INCEL!! IT WAS HIM BEING DEPRESSED AND MANIPULATED AND MOST LIKELY BRAINWASHED STOP VILLAINIZING HIM). Laurance did try to talk to him in that one episode, and it obviously didn't work. Laurance CARES about Garroth, like thats obviously super clear, and to see someone close to him randomly go into hiding and act all depressed is scary to him. And then... THE WINDOW TO YOUR RIGHT IS QUITE LITERALLY THE PORTAL TO THE IRENE DIMENSION!! Garroth goes left (to Zane) and Laurance stays right (to Aphmau). THE LINES OF FEAR AND BLAME? Laurance finds out that Garroth was tricked. He's scared of Garroth rn because he's literally insane but he blames himself too, not just for being part of the illusion that made Garroth become like this, but also because he wasn't there to help him out more maybe. He could've saved him, but he couldn't, and it still plagues him especially after he escapes the Irene Dimension. Garroth is all alone there with his brother who wants to kill him.
Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend Somewhere along in the bitterness And I would have stayed up with you all night Had I known how to save a life Yes this continues with the last part. But Laurance lost a friend here. Like. Not just by Garroth betraying them, but by him getting stuck in a dimension thats practically torture. And the bitterness? ITS THE BITTERNESS GARROTH WAS LOST IN!!! Laurance would stay up with Garroth all night... but he didn't know how to save a life.
Let him know that you know best 'Cause after all, you do know best Try to slip past his defense Without granting innocence Lay down a list of what is wrong The things you've told him all along And pray to God He hears you And I pray to God He hears you, and Alright this is were a lot more interpretation comes in because once Garroth returns, they interact like... TWICE??? The scene were Laurance goes out of character and hates on Aaron (although he had a point) and when he finally saw Garroth again but Aph was dressed as Zane. I also don't remember the ending of Season 2 that much; most of my strongest memories of MCD is Season 1. So like. Bear with me here. But this is Garroth to Laurance now. Laurance is now going insane. The calling (whatever that is because it is so unclear) is well... calling to Laurance. To me, Laurance's mental health is literally just spiraling. And Garroth, someone who has had his fair share of mental health struggles, wants to help. He knows best; he knows to talk to people, he knows the dark paths it can bring people. He's trying to get through to Laurance and telling him whats wrong, how he can help. But of course, in this situation, Laurance can't listen. He can't hear Garroth, and Garroth's close connection with the religion in MCD is a bonus for the final lines too.
Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend Somewhere along in the bitterness And I would have stayed up with you all night Had I known how to save a life Of course the chorus is back because I have to explain this perspective too. By now, I imagine Laurance has left. Garroth feels guilty; someone who helped keep Aphmau together while he was gone and someone he loved. This is really simple but like, I can't skip over this.
As he begins to raise his voice You lower yours and grant him one last choice Drive until you lose the road Or break with the ones you've followed He will do one of two things He will admit to everything Or he'll say he's just not the same And you'll begin to wonder why you came AND NOW THIS IS BOTH PERSPECTIVES!! It shows the parallels between their own journeys. Let's start with Garroth, since we have more stuff on him. Garroth was very defensive during his depressive episode and during the final episode of season 1, he has one final choice. Go with Zane, or come to his senses. And he does admit to everything, but at first, he said he's just not the same. BECAUSE HE WASN'T!! HE WAS SAD AND MANIPULATED. But for Laurance, he would also be defensive about this. His own self will is being stripped from himself because of weird Nether laws and he's spiraling. Garroth tries to help... but he simply can't. There is nothing he can do. OR MAYBE THERE IS?? Idk this is kind of just in my mcd rewrite universe and i like to imagine theres some way Laurance does get better but at the same time realistically... would he?? The nether is like so strong. Like how would he do that. But he does have a choice: either go to the Nether, or stay with his group. He can either admit it's hard, or he's just changed and leave. And now the final chorus and everything plays and its kind of the same as before... ive gotten increasingly more eepy during this writing and I hope my rambling style got my ideas across because this song literally got in my top 5 spotify wrapped because i kept imagining garrance angst to it. its so them god one day i need to share stuff about my rewrite. theres so much random stuff i have in there and this song is really important to it. i just like. GARRANCE RAHHH. my former interpretations of this song also had an aphmau perspective, which does entirely work; like. imagine the final verses is mirroring her own experiences with garroth AND laurance. i love garrancemau (SHE HAS TWO HANDS!! ignore how i also ship her with two more people too she can just hug them all at once) but i cant put it into this song as much as i used to because its so garrance. theyre so ugh i love my sad little gay men!! anyways toodles my rant here is done
#mcd#minecraft diaries#mcd aphmau#aphmau#i don’t support aphmau#aphmau mcd#garrance#mcd garrance#garroth ro’meave#garroth x laurance#laurance zvahl#mcd laurance#mcd garroth#silly little gay men#THIS SONG IS SO THEM PLEASE UNDERSTAND#this rant is so disorganized i think

So, what was Annabeth thinking about Percy? Specifically during their past together (the dance competition, when they danced together at school?)
She has no memory of him from SAB, which is either going to come up in chapter 13 or will be a little bonus scene I post after (still working out the pacing of the chapter). She also doesn't remember him from that competition. She might not even have seen him dance. Because the girls went after the boys, she might have been back stage warming up, getting ready, etc.
I think her first real memory of Percy was in the summer performance of Romeo and Juliet. She'd just done it in the Spring for the first time, and they were reprising it for the summer tour (I actually need to go back and correct some of these details in earlier chapters, because I changed my mind about certain things mid-stream.), and Percy is brought in for his first role as an apprentice as one of the page boys in the ballroom scene, and for corps roles wherever else they need him.
This is right around Annabeth's 20th birthday, and about a month and a half away from Percy's 19th birthday. This is the point where her relationship with Luke "starts" (really, goes public) so she doesn't really think much of him when they are introduced, because her mind is completely elsewhere.
Her clearest memories of Percy before they do "Diamonds" together is of him in Nutcracker, because he would frequently do Candy Canes (corps and lead), and she would frequently do Marzipan (corps and lead), which goes on after Candy Canes. So she's gotten used to watching him literally jump through hoops from the wings, while she waited for her entrance. And she always thinks he's talented and kind of cute, and she knows he's nice and has a good reputation. But Luke keeps her pretty isolated from other people, so she never gets to know him.
They actually somehow never end up doing Sugar Plum and Cavalier together. I think she just does that with Lee and Beckendorf so much, and Percy doesn't do it as often as she does (is not a principal, and there's so little for the guys to do in Nutcracker that they need to spread the roles out more), that they never get put together. They will be given at least one show together in the Nutcracker season that follows the end of this story.
So it's not until "Diamonds" that she really notices how talented, kind, and handsome he is. And she's like "Oh my god, where has this guy been? Why is no one talking about him?" And everyone else (read: Beck, Silena, and Piper) are like "Girl, he's been here. He's on rising star lists. We all love him. You're the one who's been totally asleep at the wheel, completely blind to him."
#twice upon a pointe#might end up writing some of that r&j spring in summer at some point#but as more of a silena and beck backstory fic#because thats also when she starts working at nycb as a costume intern

hello squish mon beloved for the character ask game how about..... william moriarty :]
TEEEEM THANK YOU HUGS YOU
ask game here
My first impression: okay so I'll come clean- I originally watched mtp back in 2022 and my memory of my initial reactions aren't the clearest, so I'm going off the messages I sent a friend while watching it and piecing it together from there. anyway my first impression was a little confused but with a little "alright, I can get behind this!"; this was my first actual interaction with a sherlock holmes work/adaptation since I read part of The Hounds of Baskerville in like. middle school. so I really didn't have anything I was going in with other than the very vague notion that it was "based of sherlock holmes". I took a very quick liking to him and his brothers tho :)
My impression now: SWEET FUCKING SUMMER CHILD. DEAR FUCKING GOD! I'm sobbing crying throwing up- I love him so much he has so much depth to him he forces himself to be the necessary evil and plays the part so well you think he loves it but it's literally killing him inside ACK ACK ACK he's the type of guy who'd go "I couldn't care less" but actually cares so much he wants to throw up; I started a bit confused but now I understand him so much, he's a brilliant character!
Favorite thing about that character: I think it might be his determination. Like from the very beginning he's so determined to make the world a better place no matter the dark paths he takes to get there and it's like. fucking unbreakable. dude had a plan and he stuck with it and saw an end to it (even though the end was very different from what he imagined). Even when he's trying to get back on his feet towards the current end of the manga, the moment his hands fall upon a new purpose he grips it like a vice and he's off to chase it (quite literally actually. on a horse). It's either his determination or his kindness, bc the moments where he lets his little villain persona slip and reveals a soft and beating heart makes me feel violently ill in a good way
Least favorite thing: the way he saw his own life with such little respect up until the nyc arc makes my heart shatter. his plan always resulted in the very least his own end, and if a certain someone hadn't been so desperate on saving him he risked his own life I know for a FACT William would have died and AUGH it HURTS but IT MAKES SENSE YOU COMPLEX, COMPLEX MAN
Favorite line/scene: There are so many and I have to choose JUST ONE? VETOING THIS (it counts I'm american <- joking); I'll give a list actually: the bridge scene for obvious reasons; the entire nyc arc (THE NYC ARC [I'm banging my fist on the fucking TABLE and SOBBING] AAAAA) but specifically the scenes where he arrives for backup for Sherlock and Billy and the "wedding vows" scene make me especially emotional; the Baskerville arc where he takes it personally and utterly destroys the guys behind the scheme- I could continue but this is long enough
Favorite interaction that character has with another: every single panel in the manga and every single frame William shares with Sherlock Holmes is priceless I want to gnaw on steel when they interact—detective vs. lord of crime, companions beneath their masks—it doesn't matter how they're interacting I am going insane. THE CHEMISTRY is like watching a beautiful reaction between two chemicals except it's infinite; if the next arc of the manga was just the two of them interacting in a day-to-day progress I would eat it up and leave no fucking crumbs
A character that I wish that character would interact with more: Honestly, I wish we had more interactions between Billy and William! iirc Billy looks up to William and I would have loved to see the two of them bond, especially after he starts working with him and Sherlock (oh well, I'll just read and write fanfics ig)
Another character from another fandom that reminds me of that character: uhhhhhhhh. I don't really.. I got nothing. I'm so sorry but my brain cannot generate another character from a different fandom that reminds me of William LSKDHG
A headcanon about that character: here's a silly one- he gets acid reflux easily (rip); and here's a serious one- he has nightmares about his lord of crime days long after the fall, about all the blood he's spilled and all the lives he's taken. he handles it better and better with time, but it's never a good time when he has them
A song that reminds of that character: I'm not sure WHY, but "Errasuriz" by Kiltro makes me think of William; also "Before We Drift Away" by Nothing But Thieves (squish stop assigning NBT songs to your favorite characters challenge impossible)
An unpopular opinion about that character: I don't think I know the mtp fandom well enough to know what's considered popular/unpopular, and I think it's a bit too small rn for there to be a common consensus? but uhm. I don't fucking know LMAO uhm. I think he'd look better with a purple motif rather than red??????
Favorite picture: okay okay this is gonna be a two-parter but they're from the same chapter and only like. two-three panels apart but these
I AM GOING. TO HAVE A BREAKDOWN OVER THESE. THE LIIIIIIGHT THE SMILE THE EVERYTHING I'M GOING TO FROW UP AND EXPLODE ACTUALLY
anyways ty tem :D I bet you were not prepared for my unintentional essays after each question LDSGKH
