Do you have any more ideas for Ruby, the Shadally kid?

Oh man, I haven't thought about Ruby in a while. I had a lot of ideas back when I first thought her up but I can't remember half of them. :P

I think the original idea I had for her was that due to the whole cosmic reset stuff with the Super Genesis Wave, Ruby's universe got erased but she somehow managed to survive, escaped into another universe. Can't remember were I was going with that tho...

Am now thinking of a story wherein she, Lara-su and a handful of other mismatched characters escape the genesis wave and are forced to team up in order to restore the Multiverse.

Lara-su is faced with a morel dilemma when she is given the opportunity to reset her entire timeline by preemptively fixing the problems that would cause the timeline to be altered in the first place. But that would also mean erasing the new timeline entirely and everything she has gained as a result. Not to mention the new restored timeline would likely not be the same as the original one either.

Meanwhile, the moment she realises it's possible, Ruby has but one single desire: to reset her timeline ensuring her father remains as the one and only King of Mobius! She will make it so the coup never happens so everything can go back to way things were before!

This of course puts the girls at odds with each other, especially considering they were already on bad terms what with Lara-su being the one who defeated Shadow. Then there's the fact that if Lara-su goes through with her plan to fix the timeline she'd effectively be erasing Ruby from existence altogether.

I feel like Silver and maybe a couple of the No-Zone cops would be part of this little make-shift team. Alongside a couple of other hero and villain characters. The heroes are torn between restoring the Multiverse as is, or fixing everything and causing a full reset, potentially resulting in a much better outcome but at the cost of the current timelines. The villains of course want to restore the multiverse as well (y'know, coz they live there) but also want to reset their universes timelines for their own selfish/nefarious purposes.

A band of misfits forced to be unlikely allies on an epic multi-dimensional space adventure! XD

Presenting her Royal Highness Princess Sally Acorn!

Just some design ideas for a royal/formal outfit for Sally-girl. Also had the thought that her royal outfit would maybe make a reappearance in a super form of sorts for her too. I like aspects of each of these, but none are really hitting what I was going for entirely yet tho. Probably gonna come back later with a final design. Y'know, at some point...

Kinda wanna do some Nicole and Bunnie designs now. And also maybe a some Halloween Sonally too. Probably won't get anything done any time soon tho. ^^;

A design for Sally and her robotic counterpart for that game idea I was talking about here. I don't know how to do pixel art so it's just character art rather than a game sprite. ^^;

Tried to keep the Satam design while still more or less matching with the classic Sonic character look. Taking inspiration for Robo-Sally's design from Mecha Sally, tho I wanted her to look a little more like she could be part of the metal series rather than a roboticized Sally. Robots are kinda hard to draw tho... :P

I call her "Robo-Sally" as opposed to "Metal Sally" coz, unlike Metal Sonic, who was designed to be weapon entering direct battle with Sonic, Sally's robotic duplicate was designed to instead weaponize her tactical brilliance against the Freedom Fighters. Robo-Sally is one of their most dangerous foes as she knows how Sally thinks on deeply intimate level. Their battles involve a lot of mind games, long drawn out plans, and high stakes battles of wits. Tho Sally has a lot more to lose than her counterpart does...

So I recently learned about that apparently, the Princess Sally miniseries was requested by Sega coz they were interested in making a game starring her at the time!? WE COULD HAVE HAD A SALLY GAME!!!???

Apparently, half the point of the series was to draw more girls into the Sonic fandom. Which, yeah no... The writers there clearly don't understand girls in general, given the disappointment we ended up with there...

Sigh, now I can't stop thinking about what a game starring Sally might have been like. At least, if I was making it, that is ;P

Hmm, thinking about Gameplay:

Lets assume we're in the mid 90s still, so we're looking at a speedy 2D side-scrolling platformer like the other games in the Sonic franchise at the time

Potentially Sally could have learned to spindash like Tails has, but since she can't fly, you instead navigate the various obstacles in each level with a series of acrobatic flips and jumps

Thinking it would play like big double jumps, and/or triple jumps, and wall kicks

Whether or not Sally can spindash, I think her basic attack would be a kick and maybe also a stomp attack (them boots are made for more than just walking!)

At the end of each level there is the classic boss fight, but instead of the capsule full of little animals to set free, you're rescuing captured mobians (or whatever Sega wants to call the animal people of the Sonic world)

Sally is the only playable character, with others appearing on screen largely as part of cutscenes

Potentially, collecting the chaos emeralds and letting Sally go Super could also be part of the game? Just saying it would be pretty cool :)

Now for the basic Plot and Setting:

Supposedly, Sega rejected a couple of pitches for the miniseries before accepting a pitch based on the idea of Sally recruiting new Freedom Fighters, so let's assume this is what they went with more or less as the plot of the game

How about we also lean into some Satam elements for the setting, the various levels mostly being places from the cartoon

Like the other games in the Sonic franchise at this time, the story is largely told through visuals without much in the way of cutscenes, with maybe a few for brief moments of dialogue here and there

Am thinking that Robotnik is away somewhere, thoroughly distracted by Sonic showing up to absolutely wreck his shit, so the main villain Sally's fighting here is Snively who was left in charge

Which also explains why Sally is going solo here, as the rest of the Freedom Fighters are currently busy with their own missions

Let's look into the Story some more:

We start with Sally going on patrol in the Great Forest, ending the level with her encountering the rather suspicious Geoffrey St John

Just then Nicole intercepts a signal, informing them of a large group of mobains having been captured and currently being transported to Robotropolis to be robotisized!

Sally reluctantly agrees to team up with Geoffrey on a impromptu rescue mission

The pair split up upon reaching Robotropolis, Sally making her way through the streets rescuing more captive mobians, wherein she begins recruiting volunteers to help her infiltrate Robotnik's prison

While rescuing the remaining mobains, the group successfully destroys one of Robotnik's factories, Sally having now recruited all four characters seen in the comic

Afterwards Geoffrey (who keeps mysteriously disappearing) informs them that Robotnik is working on a secret weapon in a hidden facility and they need to destroy it before it's completed

After successfully infiltrating the facility, Geoffrey shows his true colours as a double agent (shocking, I know), tricking Sally into a trap where she is then promptly handing over to Snively

He reveals that Robotnik has created a robotic Sally. Unlike the robot clone plot from the comic, this robot is more like how Metal Sonic is, having been created to serve as a general for Robotnik's armies, weaponizing Sally's brilliant analytical mind against them

All they need to complete it is to copy the real Sally's mind and bio-data, which Snively does post-haste intending to also robotisize her immediately afterwards

Fortunately, Sally never fully trusted Geoffrey and entrusted Nicole to her new friends before she was captured, allowing them to break her out just in the nick of time

Unfortunately, Robo-Sally was still completed and activated, so while the others fight off Geoffrey and Snively, Sally confronts her robot double, the final boss of the game

Sally emerges triumphant, meanwhile Geoffrey betrays Snively saying that he only pretended to be the bad guy to get him to reveal the heavily guarded secret weapon so he could sabotage it, or so he claims...

Geoffrey's subordinates then arrive, revealing that they've successfully sabotaged the facility which is about to blow up, Snively manages to escape in the subsequent chaos

Sally is wholly unimpressed by Geoffrey, as he not only endangered her own life, he also nearly caused an incredibly dangerous robot to be let loose upon the world!

Though still not able to fully trusting him, the two groups part ways as tentative allies, Sally admitting that they need all the help they can get in the war against Robotnik, that and she would rather have more allies than enemies...

The final cutscene shows Sally returning home triumphantly and officially welcoming her new friends into the Freedom Fighters!

A potential bonus ending shows Robo-Sally having survived the explosion, setting her up as an ongoing antagonist and nemesis for Sally to fight!

And that's all I got so far! Man, now I kinda wish I new more about making games. Or at least new people that did, coz I kinda wanna play a game like this now!

A redraw of a Sonic Universe cover featuring super siblings Estelle, Sonya, and Manik I had started this ages ago. It's been sitting mostly done for ages so I figured I may as well share it.

Am redesigning Estelle, still not fully settled yet, but something more like this. Gotta figure out what her quills are doing, but couldn't be bothered redrawing this whole thing so meh.... I'll get to it later. Sonya also got a couple of minor changes, mostly just on fur colouring, while Manik is the same as before.

Still gotta design all their super suits too. And draw baby Jasper as well.

Day 6: Reflection

So! This AU was inspired by the anime movie "Belle" (great movie btw), wherein Sally and Sonic have never met, that is until they both join a popular online virtual world known a "U" in order to escape the problems in their respective lives. The avatars generated by U's AI are, in a way, a distorted reflection of the user themselves and how they wish to be seen by others.

Sonic avatar takes inspiration from his super form, albeit a bit softer and fluffier, with some dragon elements to highlight the fantasy of online world. His super form has always inspired confidence in him, being both invulnerable and literally charged with positive energy and all that. As Super Sonic, he felt like he could do anything. He wishes he could feel that way again, even just for a little bit...

Sally's avatar is more of a reflection of her desire to be seen as someone strong and intimidating. As for the unicorn motif? Well, typically unicorns are associated with purity and innocence, a delicate ethereal being. All thing's Sally is not, but an image that has been forced on her. The dark unicorn is a subversion of this, twisting her family's perception of her with her own perception of herself...

Sonic's design was the first thing I came up with in this AU and more or less got it right the first try! He play's the role of Beauty in this scenario. Sally was a different Beast altogether (pun intended). My god, she went through soooo many design changes...and colour changes... but here we are at last!

Thoughts I had on Sally Acorn and her role as "Princess".

Look, there's a lot more active and unconscious sexism in mainstream media then we like to admit and let's face it, Princesses are rarely portrayed as possessing any form of power or authority despite their rank. Neither are Queens for that matter; always considered below the King in that regard. The Patriarchy at work.

And Princess Sally Acorn is unfortunately a victim of such misogynistic tropes.

The problem is, the Archie comic writers were determined to make her into another stereotypical powerless princess, but unfortunately for them, she was fundamentally not designed that way! Sally Acorn was created as the sole remaining heir to the throne; one not only fighting, but leading the fight to take back her kingdom! She was meant to rule, her character being designed to do so in fact. Which is a very large part of why she was so inconsistently written: when she was portrayed as a Princess she was meek and subservient, but as a Freedom Fighter she was fierce, decisive and a proactive leader!

When you really look into her character, Sally was not raised a princess, she was raised as the last remaining heir to the throne, meaning she was effectively raised to be King. And it shows! Sally, even as a child was leading the Freedom Fighters, was a regarded as being in a position of authority by those living in Knothole, she lead negotiations and forged alliances! She was already doing all the things a true Ruler is supposed to do!

Yet the moment her father came back she was effectively demoted to being a hapless little girl. To be fair, it does make some sense to an extent. Sally does not know how to be a princess, at least not by her very traditional father's standards. She's been searching for him for all this time and finally has him back, of course she'd want him to be proud of her. So, naturally, she'd try her best to conform to his desires, but she was always meant for greater things.

That whole thing she had with the "Source of All" and Sword of Acorns just further cements Sally's true place in the royal hierarchy. A literal cosmic or god-like force (whatever was going on there) wanted Sally to be Queen, and add an enchanted sword called out to her, wanting her to wield it? Anyone else getting the Sword in the Stone vibes here? Of course the writers forced her to not want it and give it all up, because reasons I guess, despite going out of their way to show us all how in universe Sally was the One True King of the Acorn Kingdom.

At least her brother and her boyfriend recognised pretty much right from the start who she truly was. Sonic had always campaigned for Sally to return to lead the Freedom Fighters. And Elias tried his best to support her, knowing she was a much better leader than him.

Not to say Elias wouldn't make a good King. He had his ups and downs, but the his character really shone in the Secret Freedom Fighter story arcs. You could really see him coming into his own then. With Elias taking on the role of heir, it frees up Sally to go back to leading the Freedom Fighters. Her authority was always recognised there at least; her own little kingdom as it were.

It's very easy to imagine the Freedom Fighters traveling the world as a kind of superhero team, lead by the power couple that is Sally and Sonic. :)

But if she were to take the throne, it definitely would be nothing like how they represented Queen Sally in the 25/30 Years Later arc. Not just because they completely nerfed her character entirely, also because Sonic never would have become King to start with. Marrying a princess does not automatically make you a king!! You have to already be a prince in your own right, or literally everyone else in line for succession, including your spouse, has to die for you to gain that title! Even then you'd have to have had some sort of claim to the throne to start with!

The highest rank Sonic could have feasibly achieved would be "Prince Consort", but logically his title would have been "The Queen's Husband" given he was a commoner. And let's face it, Sonic would happily be Sally's trophy husband.

But anyways, this has gotten long, so in conclusion:

Sally Acorn is the rightful ruler and One True King of Mobius. She would have made a damn great Princess and Queen if not for poor writing coloured by sexist views. But she is also just as much a Queen while leading the Freedom Fighters!

(And she totally should have kept Excalibur the Sword of Acorns! Tho her energy swords are cool too!)

Apologies for the delay on our announcement this year; Real Life has been especially busy for your friendly neighborhood Mod, so I haven't had my usual time/energy to prepare. But I'm ready now, so let's all begin preparing for...

BOUND FOR FREEDOM: SONIC x SALLY WEEK, YEAR SIX!

To make up for the late announcement, this year our week-long event will run from SATURDAY, AUGUST 31st TO SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 7th!  You can participate either by submitting directly to this blog, or else by tagging your post with any of these tags: #boundforfreedom, #sonally week, and/or #sonsal week (make sure to include at least one of these tags within the first five tags of the post so that they will show up in Tumblr’s Search).  If your submission is not reblogged here within 24 hours, please message either this blog directly, or the blog runner, @gojira007​

As has become tradition, our usual daily prompts will be unified this time around by a THEME!  You’re free to make of that theme what you like; maybe you use it to supplement your piece or link your contributions together, or maybe you use the Theme itself as your inspiration if the daily prompt isn’t really doing it for you, or maybe you just ignore it all together!  But whatever you want to do with it, the theme is there to help really bring this year’s event to life.  

And as to what that theme is? Well, last year was a Big Anniversary, the 30th anniversary of the SatAM cartoon that introduced us to this Ship in the first place! After a big event like that, things can't just go back to normal; it often means you have to reflect on things, to look forward and see what lies ahead. So in keeping with that?

Was looking through some of my half-strated drawings and found these guys. I drew Harmony and Tempo from the Royalty/Arranged Marriage AU for that Sonadow fankid collab a few months ago, just never got round to posting them here!

Going for the SA2 vibes with the background. Still don't know how lighting/shading works really tho. Also realised that Harmony probably should have had her quills styled down here too... Ah well, she looks better with them curled up anyways!

The Sonic fankid showdown is on again. Thought about entering Sparx, started drawing her again, saw there were already sooo many entries in already, and then the polls were up. Ah well, maybe next time. :P

I really like her design (was in initially inspired by come of the concept art for Surge). I feel like her quills might be too long here tho? Or maybe just at the wrong angle? Meh, it'll probably be a bit different every time I draw here anyways! She's still best girl!

Kinda wanna fix up the designs of some of her half-siblings tho. Maybe will get to that soon...

Been meaning to draw chubby Sonic/Nicky from the Incredibles inspired Superhero AU for ages and finally got round to it! But man, breaking the super stylised Sonic style was really hard... Honestly look somewhat normally proportioned but is actually quite a bit chunky compared to normal. Bonus Sally and Shadow/Terios showing their approval for their curvy and oh so huggable husband! (Is a redraw of that one adorable panel from idw Sonic comics.)

Mentioned it before but Sonic/Nicky is quite self-conscious of his weight largely due to him being picked on for being chubby as a little kid. He did not like being "Nicky", and once he adopted the new persona of "Sonic", the version of himself he actually liked and liked being, he never ever wanted to go back.

So, yeah adapting to life after Superheroes were made illegal was really hard for him. Still he tries very hard not to let it get to him, to find joy and a little adventures in his life where he can. And for the most part it seems like of the three of them, Sonic has adapted to domestic life the best. Truthfully, deep down, he feels exactly the same as Shadow/Terios does. He has that same feeling of defeat and loss that Sally does. He would love for things to go back to how they used to be, but he doesn't want to lose what they have now either.

More than anything, he wants to do right by their kids. Problem is he's not sure he knows what "right" is anymore...

Behold! Pirate Captain Sally!! Sonic approves! ;)

Was inspired by MarinerMay prompt "Pirate Queen", but took nearly all month to finish it... Still keep making little edits, (even the little Sonic scribble in the corner for motivation got added into the end product!) have to post or I'll be stuck in an editing loop forever!! ^^;

Yet another Sonic fankid design, tho for the first time it's not a Sonic baby! Saw some art a while ago and was inspired.

Princess Ruby is the daughter of King Shadow and Queen Sally in a potential 25/30 Years Later storyline. Although she was brought into existence as largely nothing more than a political tool, she had a relatively good childhood. As a princess she wanted for nothing, sheltered from the cruelty of her father's regime, she grew up naive and loyal to Shadow's vision of the world. Despite the fact he barely acknowledged her existence.

Her whole world came crashing down upon Shadow's defeat. Worse still, her mother went and married the man responsible for it almost immediately afterwards! To add insult to injury they proceeded to quickly produce a pair of twins together and act so damn happy all the time! Everyone seems to be happy about this turn of events! Well Ruby isn't happy! She hates her mum for betraying her father, she hates that faker usurping his position, and she hates those two brats they call her half-siblings! They aren't her family and never will be!

At least Lien-da and the rest of the Dark Alliance is still loyal to the true King! They'll help her get her father back and set the world right again!

Pfft, rude. Hedgehogs in general are a polygamous species and one website even described them as promiscuous (which I find hilarious for some reason).

It's also very clear the Master Emerald knocked up Sonic without his knowledge or consent. Effectively it artificially inseminated him, then kick started his cycle to ensure he'd start ovulating. Which of course, set off an out of season heat. Sonic, having no idea this was happening, thought he was just feeling a little bit lonely and horny. ;P

He had a very serious talk with the Master Emerald about boundaries and consent afterward tho. With Knuckles yelling at him in embarrassment the whole time to shut up and get off his island already!

Gasp! What's this? Even more Sonic fankid design even tho I have like half a dozen AUs already!? IDK man, I just like designing characters I guess! :P

Anyways, I learned some facts about hedgehogs recently and apparently during their mating season hedgehogs often take on several mates at a time, and it's not uncommon for a single litter of hoglets to have different fathers. Thus this AU spawned into being! Basically, after an odd out of season heat, Sonic realises his eggo is preggo and has to backtrack to figure who the potential fathers/mothers might be.

Also should mention that Sonadow twins Tempo and Harmony, are also part of this litter too. Look, I drew five kids and ran out of steam. If ya can't tell by the lack of shading, I just wanted this drawing to be done. I'll try to get round to drawing them later, maybe when I don't have four other half-finished pieces to be doing...

Anyways about the kids!

Amber the Echidna: Contrary to what ya might be thinking, Knuckles is not her dad. She came as a surprise to everyone as Sonic knew for a fact he hadn't been with Knuckles at the time, and didn't know of any other echidnas. They would later learn that she was actually brought into existence by the Master Emerald itself. During their last epic battle with Eggman, Sonic used it power up and it seized the opportunity to, well, get him pregnant. This, it turns out, is also what set off his heat, causing this whole mess. No one is really sure why the Master Emerald did this, but there is an awareness that Amber probably has some kind of Magical Destiny ahead of her.

Sparx the Tenrec: The result of a drunken one night stand. Coincidentally, she was conceived on the same night as Cinder, during a victory party hosted by the Restoration. Sonic does not remember much of this night as he may have partied a little bit too hard. He has vague flashes of an angry make-out session with Surge tho, the next clearest thing being he waking up in bed between Silver and Blaze. Surge was very in denial that the whole thing had happened and did not really take the news she'd had a kid with Sonic very well... Sparx is very close with Sonic and has an up and down relationship with her mum.

Cinder the Cat: Silver and Blaze are in a committed relationship, but fully accept Cinder as their kid. He doesn't really find it that weird that his mum and bio dad aren't together, nor finds Silver's presence in his life disagreeable. He gets to have an extra parent after all. It was admittedly a bit weird for the parents at first, but they made it work. Tho Sonic is still a little salty that he can't remember the details of what he thinks must have been a really hot threesome...

Trick the Wolf: Sonic just happen to run into Gadget and, tbh, both were kinda surprised that they ended up in bed together. Sonic had not been aware he was in heat during all this time and this encounter was the first to clue him in that something might have been up. Tho he wouldn't put the pieces together until much later. They were originally called "Trixie" but later changed it to "Trick" to sound more gender neutral after coming out as gender fluid.

Arthur Acorn: Sonic and Sally had a history, so when they happen to meet up and fell into to bed together it wasn't really all that out of the ordinary. Her parents very much do not approve of the fact Sally had a child out of wedlock, and that it's with Sonic of all people, AND that said child has multiple half-siblings to boot! Despite this, they can't help but love Arthur. It's very hard for people not too, he's just got so much rizz, even as a baby.

Thoughts about The Litter AU wherein Sonic has a litter of kids all with different fathers/mothers.

Upon finding out the truth behind baby Amber's origins, Sonic would then start to refer to the Master Emerald as the Mother/Father Emerald instead. He would also constantly be making jokes about it being a deadbeat mum/dad that nether paid child support nor contributed to raising their baby.

Knuckles does not find these jokes very funny.

It should also be known that Rouge was rather upset when she heard the news.

Rouge, crying at the Master Emerald alter: "I thought we had something special!"

Knuckles: "Will you go home already!"

They would later learn that she was actually brought into existence by the Master Emerald itself. During their last epic battle with Eggman, Sonic used it power up and it seized the opportunity to, well, get him pregnant. This, it turns out, is also what set off his heat, causing this whole mess. No one is really sure why the Master Emerald did this, but there is an awareness that Amber probably has some kind of Magical Destiny ahead of her.

Sparx the Tenrec: The result of a drunken one night stand. Coincidentally, she was conceived on the same night as Cinder, during a victory party hosted by the Restoration. Sonic does not remember much of this night as he may have partied a little bit too hard. He has vague flashes of an angry make-out session with Surge tho, the next clearest thing being he waking up in bed between Silver and Blaze. Surge was very in denial that the whole thing had happened and did not really take the news she'd had a kid with Sonic very well... Sparx is very close with Sonic and has an up and down relationship with her mum.

Cinder the Cat: Silver and Blaze are in a committed relationship, but fully accept Cinder as their kid. He doesn't really find it that weird that his mum and bio dad aren't together, nor finds Silver's presence in his life disagreeable. He gets to have an extra parent after all. It was admittedly a bit weird for the parents at first, but they made it work. Tho Sonic is still a little salty that he can't remember the details of what he thinks must have been a really hot threesome...

Trick the Wolf: Sonic just happen to run into Gadget and, tbh, both were kinda surprised that they ended up in bed together. Sonic had not been aware he was in heat during all this time and this encounter was the first to clue him in that something might have been up. Tho he wouldn't put the pieces together until much later. They were originally called "Trixie" but later changed it to "Trick" to sound more gender neutral after coming out as gender fluid.

Arthur Acorn: Sonic and Sally had a history, so when they happen to meet up and fell into to bed together it wasn't really all that out of the ordinary. Her parents very much do not approve of the fact Sally had a child out of wedlock, and that it's with Sonic of all people, AND that said child has multiple half-siblings to boot! Despite this, they can't help but love Arthur. It's very hard for people not too, he's just got so much rizz, even as a baby.
