Thanks so much for the feedback and comments on this!

Just to clear some things up, I did not mean to make it seem like I believed this work was lesser or beneath me/my family. Cleaning is a very respectful job and I would never view these women as lesser for doing it. Also, to the one person who asked why I don't think women should be employed: literally how did you come to that conclusion.

My main worry was more surrounding the possible racial implications of a white family hiring Hispanic cleaners. But, from what you guys said, I've learned that it's not necessarily a bad thing so long as I treat them with respect. I've done my best to be as kind to these wonderful ladies as I can be and I hope I've done so (though I mostly try to stay out of their way as to make their job easier haha).

I think I truly was just overthinking it all, and maybe letting some guilt get to me.

Technically this is something my parents did but I was complacent to it, ig?

I have a family of five, we're really lucky to live comfortably due to my stepdads investments (back in the 80s) and my mom's work. Id say this lands us solidly middle to upper middle class.

Because we're such a busy and energetic family, some menial chores and tasks often went neglected. My mom tried to remind us (the kids) to do our assigned household chores, which didn't include our personal chores like laundry, dishes, cleaning our rooms, etc, but with 2/3 kids having ADHD, she got tired of reminding us. I know personally it's hard to remember to do some chores because the whole out of sight out of mind thing.

Well eventually this annoyed my mom enough to consider hiring a maid/cleaning service. My mom recently got a promotion of sorts and has the money for one.

A few weeks ago they got in contact with a business and now our main downstairs area is cleaned every other week. These women do a wonderful job and I know my parents pay them well, as per their business requirements.

The thing is, we're a fairly well off white family. I know it's not necessarily a bad thing to get a cleaning service but with our race and the race of these women (which I believe they're Hispanic) I feel kind of gross. I've been trying my best to eliminate any kind of unconscious, internal racial bias I may have been born with but this feels wrong to me. I feel like part of the problem.

Idk if it's just guilt or if I actually am complacent in something objectively wrong. AITA?
