godrick is one of the best bosses from has ever made for being the single funniest one out of them all i think. it’s really so perfect how everything leads up to him. Your first real enemies are his soldiers menacing you, everyone talks about him, he seems to be the big bad evil king of the entire land for all you may know as a new player. To even get to him, you have to get through a considerably difficult skillcheck boss, so you’re thinking Fuck. if that’s just one of godrick’s goons just watching the door i guess, the actual guy himself must be REALLY bad. and then you fight through this entire castle, possibly having to leave and come back a couple times to level and upgrade stuff bc man it’s pretty tough and you know you’ve got a pretty big issue to deal with. and you finally get there and you fight godrick and he’s fucking INSANE. he’s this abomination of body horror limbs and he chops his own fucking arm off to attack a severed dragon head to himself and it’s the craziest shit ever. it probably takes you a few tries but you beat him. you really defeated him, the big evil, at last. and then from that point on you find out godrick was the biggest fucking loser ever and everyone hated him anyway, even the other antagonists and he was basically just a worthless dipshit the whole time and it affords you absolutely no street cred whatsoever. you have to grapple with a complete narrative flip instantly

if my elden ring character was in the game she’d be an npc that you’d meet early on in the game and she’d be friendly like “Ah, a fellow Tarnished, are we? It’s nice to know we do not face our grim duties alone in these strange lands.” and she’d have a really missable questline that involves finding her in several obscure locations. At one point you find her in a little dungeon and she’s like “It’s rather embarassing to admit, but the creature that lurks at the end of this cavern… it sends a shiver down my spine. I’ll have to figure out something.” implying she wants help in defeating it which is just her being a summon for it for you mechanically speaking. you summon her (required) and afterward you find her outside the arena and she’s very thankful to be rid of the beast and she gives you an x2 Exalted Flesh. the next time you find her she’s standing over a dead body and when you speak to her she’s visibly shaken and disoriented and doesn’t seem to remember you at first, though she snaps out of it and addresses you like the old friend you are. She says something vague about the corpse, referring to “not wanting to do it…” and this is where you can attack her to end her questline early and get her weapon although you don’t get her armor set. taking advantage of her addled state she’s pretty vulnerable here and won’t fight back very harshly. If you do kill her, her last words as she fades away are like “No… no… this is right… what kind of Lord could be a murderer…?” both admitting the previous act and a subtle (but not intended by her) dig at the player as well. if you don’t kill her she’s found later and she seems to be nearly a completely different person. she’s standing different, her tone has changed, she’s colder. you speak to her and she’s like “Ah. Fellow Tarnished. It’s been a while.” and she basically goes on to say she’s realized the full burden of their shared duty being that while the Tarnished can fight together along the way, for their to be a true outcome in the end, only one can become Lord. “I’d rather not harm a friend. Go home. … But I know that’s not an option for our kind, is it? Very well. Persist, if you care to. It makes no difference to me.” and the next time you see her she’s invading you at multiple moments throughout the later game. once in leyndell, once in mountaintops, once in farum azula, and then one last time in the ashen capital. the first three times are silent but the last she has a monologue where she’s just completely lost herself in her fury to end you, seeing you as her last challenge to the throne. defeating her the last time she’s like “… perhaps this is right… how could a murderer… be… Lord…?” as she collapses. you would then find her body outside godfrey’s arena where you collect her weapon and armor set

learning how to edit elden rings regulation.bin was worth it for the responsible things with it, so far have only persistently used it to change some parameters regarding visuals to my tastes, but also it’s fun to remember i have it in my back pocket to go and do. less responsible things. like hypothetically making Mohg have 5 health so he dies instantly to one arrow because i got sick of his antics and said Enough.
