Fics rec of the week is the amazing survival horror "Cost" by @clownery-and-fuckery on AO3 It's really gruesome space horror, with character development just right, with a focus on Echo&Crosshair relationship. I recommend reading it while listening to Deadspace's soundtrack. I've never felt so sick in my stomach reading a fic éuè <3 Thank you again, author, I hope more people will discover it! i finished reading krakoa era and comic cherik are amazing SO i wanted to ask do you have any favorite issues/series i still don't really remember how to call it where cherik are also cool?? some iconis comic moments with them maybe??

im FARRR from finishing all of krakoa (ive probably barely even made a dent in this series), though i do think following the HoX + PoX issues themselves are great if we're talkin cherik-focused issues/books. i already said one of my fave aspects of cherik is their moments working together, so having a whole Omnibus dedicated to them Working Together and trusting each other (bonus points for Protective Erik with the Something Sinister bit) is already guaranteeing a sure spot in my Faves collection

one of my fave cool moments i've read so far- which is a moment i wager a lot of people can agree is Sick As Hell Visually if i may be so daring- is ABSOLUTELY this sequence from Inferno #4

any time erik and charles get to do some bamf shit together it is IMMEDIATELY peak to me this cannot be disputed and i'd be lying if i didn't say i bought this run solely for this moment here (ignore the fact they fumble this fight horribly that dont matter they looked cool as hell for five seconds !!!!!!!!!!!)

i can't wait to read more and find even more moments i love and want to tape to my eyelids <3 !!

the set up of this fic is tim manipulating the bats into following a plan he misrepresented and then purposefully going dark, although the majority of the fic deals with the interpersonal fallout of tim's actions (complete)

jason takes tim in because jack drake's a piece of shit and ends up doing his own growing in the process. not sure how to explain why i'm including this without spoiling it, but there is a Big Moment later in the fic that to me is equivalent to tim purposely cutting his comms off to deal with a situation himself (wip)

Call to a Lonely Earth by Drag0nst0rm

in the midst of brucequest, tim ends up on an earth where there are no longer any children and bruce has lost both his sons. i'm mostly including this one because i like it a lot, but—mild spoiler—tim does make a call explaining what he presents as a hopeless situation that he can't be saved from and then hangs up! (first fic is complete but sequel isn't)

also, while it doesn't quite have the same emotional force of what i was looking for, detective comics (1940) #698-99 is where i originally got the idea from and it does feature protective dick and alvin draper!

ahhh honestly it is way too hard to pick out all time favorites, there's just way too much good food in this fandom!! so here's a few qualified favorites, if that makes sense... !!

favorite recently discovered fic "says the shadow" by tciddaemina: when sy transmigrates, it isn't a simple soul possession - sy is an eldritch being that puppets sqq's body while still lingering outside of sqq's body too, invisible to everyone… except for lbh. although lbh starts off terrified of the horrifying spectre that's taken over sqq, over time he begins to love him. after all, lbh can see and hear all the things the spectre does, and since sy doesn't think anyone can see him, he is constantly using his multitude of arms to pet at lbh's head, and muttering to himself about how good lbh is

favorite currently ongoing fic "In the Red" by ibex_ascendant: bingge reverse transmigrates and buys out sy's debts so he can have some control over sy's life, all while hiding his identity as "luo binghe" from sy. i know i just recc'd this fic for another prompt on this ask game, but i really mean it 🙈 the way bingge is written as so awful and yet still so deeply pathetic... hghnhh.

favorite comfort reread fic (oneshot) "Critical point" by mamiser: lbh, raised by huan hua and taught to hate cqm, ends up working with sqq on a mission. this leads to lbh struggling to recognize that he was only taught cruelty and lies by huan hua, including lies about his own self.

favorite comfort reread fic (multichapter) "Tongfang" by The Feels Whale: canon divergence where sy is the well off young master of a household that binghe is sent to work for during some off seasons of cang qiong's training. working as young master shen's personal servant quickly shifts binghe's career goal from "cultivator" to "bride."

It's a common shippy song, but I really enjoy "From the Start" by Laufey for Symweaver because I love the idea that either they both of them thought their feelings were unrequited until they were adults, or that Lifeweaver was always aware of her feelings and just let her vibe until she was comfortable expressing it

Just started watching suits recently and was wondering if you had any good fic recs, particularly AUs. The nature of the show really lends itself to Selkie fics imo but also I just love selkies

anon i need you to know that as soon as i saw your ask i immediately went scouring through the AU tag on ao3. i’m not gonna lie, i'm not usually an AU reader but i wanted to challenge myself to provide some recs as unbiasedly as possible.

at first observation, i noticed a lot of the AU fics were still in some way canon (divergent and adjacent)-- usually splitting off somewhere along the show or a situation where Mike or Harvey is still a lawyer, while the other was not. i will say i skipped over smut-based (omegaverse, bdsm) and lengthy fics (under 20k is nothing, anything more than 50k is pushing it for me) cause i just did not have the brainpower to even try to get through them :/

so of course the ones i ended up liking were mostly canon divergent/adjacent but i tried my best to get you something different. what i managed to dig up for you is under the cut and i really hope you like them anon (also fyi these are all pretty much marvey fics, hope that's okay!) <3 also thanks so much for the ask! i enjoyed this little scavenger hunt haha!

This one It’s basically Lucifer suffering from Amnesia, deluding himself to be a detective and goes to play in the human world, making Charlie Upset and Consequently cause problems for Alastor as well, who has to go and fetch him back lol

To think that a CSI-esque plot would actually work with these two characters? Amazing. The scene where they guessed criminals was so great, and the way Al literally just showed up at Lucifer’s office, didn’t want to use the chair, and was like, I’m your new partner, poor lost little lamb, suck it up, made me Cackled. Also the way Alastor’s doesn’t even think Lucy might be interested in him and is absolutely buffled when the devil kisses him poor Dear eheh

There is also an Helluva Boss crossover, with Moxie asking an autograph from Al, amusing the sinner enough to not kill the HH squad on the sight…Absolutely recommend 😆

One of my favorite Hazbin tropes is Alastor being baffled that someone would like him in that way.

i'll be very candid with you my friend: i'm totally lost too !!!!!!! your comic-reading journey is about as green as mine and so i cant personally give you a super great guide- but beautiful people on the internet exist who've done most of the dirty work for us when sorting through the stories you 'should' read so i'm borrowing them to help us both

Fall of the House of X/Rise of the Powers of X (also should have already done, however...) +Single issue: X-Men (2021 series) #35 aka Uncanny X-Men #700 is featured at the end of the FoX omnibus, though the omnibus excludes an extra bit at the end involving a cliffhanger for Charles's fate after he's arrested

if you want to dig a little deeper though, you can check out this article from another individual which includes another wave of 'relevant' (word used loosely as some can be considered more poignant than others) krakoa stories and stories related to it or set during the period.

it's a lot longer and more in depth than the last article, so again i only really rec peaking at this one depending on how deep you wanna go, or if you decide you want to explore more after reading the more 'key' stories. def wouldn't hurt to give it a glance just in case you read some summaries that pique your interest!

all in all, don't take these as concrete rules or guides to follow: comics are meant to be fun, these are just good starting points if you're feeling lost or overwhelmed. at the end of the day, you decide ultimately what you want to read and which stories interest you the most
