Unsuprising, New York and Chicago have the best public transit systems, DC ranks pretty well, San Francisco is pretty good, but Muni metro needs some improvements, LA and Philadelphia have a decent ones, but still needs a lot of work and better service in some regions, Seattle is getting there but still needs a bit of work. But any of those cities you could live happily without a vehicle depending on what neighborhood you live in. And all of these do still need work and are not anywhere near perfection.

Okay, so the twitch rivals tournament has a prize pool of 100K. Not all of it goes to the winner, but someone said it's around 70K for first prize and then some smaller amounts for second prize and so on.

Now, there have been some people saying that Sapnap shouldn't win because he doesn't need the money and doesn't deserve it.

Which... yeah, he doesn't need it (and he very much knows that and even explicitly acknowledged that on stream) but it's a tournament, it's not about distributing money to those who need it. (And who would even decide what qualifies as needing money? How would you do that? Would you have everyone submit their income documents and then calculate a cut-off or what?)

So if the purpose of prize money isn't need, what is it then?

An inventive to play as well as you can. To take the game as seriously as possible, despite it being "just a game" (more thoughts on "just a game"). Because a tournament where players aren't all in - for whatever reason - is just not fun to watch at all.

We want players to want to win. We want them to put their all into it. How boring would it be if you were watching a 100m race, but every time the runners stop right before the finish line and start "after you"-ing each other.

Now why is Sapnap's competitiveness different from some other examples we have seen recently?

Unless provoked, he keeps it inside the game. Yes, he is competitive as fuck, and you could definitely argue that he takes it a bit too far at times, but generally his competitiveness and aggressive attitude are contained within the game. Which is a legitimate player characteristic. Nearly every game set up accounts for the archetype of the aggressive player. Everyone can decide for themselves if they vibe with that or not.

And in the end, money or no money, the purpose of a tournament like twitch rivals like this is to entertain (more thoughts on that too). And whether you like Sapnap or not, you have to admit, his antics are quite entertaining.
