If you could relive any memory of your past, what would it be?

Probably cliche, but reading the Black Winter series for the first time again. Corny as hell since this is my Black Winter sideblog, but something about the experience of stumbling on the first book, falling in love with it, and waiting a solid month until the person who had the second one checked out at the school library returned it while making a bunch of theories of what'd happen next, and falling in love with the series all over again when I finally got my hands on the next one is something I wish I could experience again.

Soooo are you familiar with the myth of Eros and Psyche?

I was playing around with this idea a while ago, but only recently it clicked when I thought...... what if I combined it with Norse mythology instead of Greek

Basically Hiccup is brought by Jack to his house (for.... ReasonsTM) away from Midgard, for his own safety

The most interesting factor to me is that Hiccup can't ever look at Jack, cue fun scenes where Hiccup has banters with an invisible entity

...until it's night time and ooops to get back to a physical form and sleep Jack has to become visible again, and the problem is that for plot reasons Hiccup can't know who he is

So they form a weird dynamic: Hiccup trusts that Jack is protecting him and not lying, Jack trusts Hiccup to not open his eyes when he's visible

And...... you know where this is going if you know the myth hehehe

Do you have any personal tips on drawing and rendering wrinkles and folds for your painting? I’ve seen so much of your work and it just fascinates me every time!

Thank you for the slug :3 Now I'm no teacher, but this is usually my thought process when drawing "wrinkles" on a fabric

1st): I like to add one of those "bumps" on the edge of the fabric to emphasize that yes, there are wrinkles there. it pretty much helps the eyes process the idea of wrinkles being present, and it helps making it feel like figure's plausible to exist on a 3D space.

2nd): triangles, loops and zigzag-ing patterns. when I make wrinkles on fabrics, my brain automatically looks for places where "tension" would begin, and then fold everything. This means areas like joints, elbows, armpits, knees, etc. Triangles are a go-to if you want to make tighter fabrics, zigzags are more so for looser clothing depending.

When I draw tighter clothing, I also tend to draw the figure in detail first --ex. if I want to draw a tight shirt, I draw the torso in detail first-- and then adding wrinkles on where they would form after that. References definitely help a lot.

There's also the fact that I always imagine wrinkles to be two areas having a tug of war, but there's no winners

the unaffected areas of wrinkles are also ALWAYS darker (even if ever so slightly), because the wrinkles itself are more exposed to light than the rest of the fabric, except of course, on certain lighting placements. (like the light being shone directly onto the unaffected area)

Just saw a post where you said you're educated in theology with a focus on heresies. (I don't remember it word for word, but you said something like it)

So I want to ask, what's your favorite heresy?

To be fair, mines crom the third century. Basically Jesus said someone would betray him, and his word is the word of God. Technically Judas was just following Gods instructions, and shouldn't be seen as a bad guy.

We share the same favorite heresy! I'm a huge fan of Judasian heresies, which tend to focus around heretical redemption of Judas (but not always). My specific favorite Judasian heresy is the belief that one could argue that Judas was trusted in some ways even above Peter--for Judas was willing to betray the Savior so that He could take on the sins of all of humanity at his death, and of course to ensure his resurrection. There's a beautiful parallel to make, where Jesus consumes the sins of the world, but Judas represents those sins--or, alternately, represents the ultimate expression of free will and love for his God, taking the scorn of eternity for the sake of Christ. It's just such a fascinating distinction to make, y'know? I love it. It turns a story about the pettiness and vindictive greed of the human heart into a narrative foil as a different, but ultimately equal, act of selfless love through the scapegoat.

hi....... the only way that jily interests me is A) when they try so so hard to make things work for years but ultimately decide they need to go their separate ways or B) when one or both of them dies, like in canon but also esp. when lily kills james and maybe harry too <33

in this essay, i will discuss option A but if you want there is MUCH to discuss for option B........

for me. jily is like. james who is in love with the idealised version of lily that he created when he was like eleven and decided that she was going to be the love of his life and they were going to have their happily ever after forever and ever amen. the lily he loves is one he made up over years of pining and one that ultimately does not exist. lily, similarly, isn't so much in love with james but with what he represents and what that means for her. he's what everyone expects, a good, well-off man who can provide and care for her and who has been loudly declaring his love for her for years. he's something solid and the inevitable next step in her life and their relationship is a kind of wartime whirlwind spurred on by the feeling that maybe they're running out of time (they are) and by the fact that as far as everyone is concerned, they're perfect for each other.

i think a lot about them during those long months in hiding, just them and baby harry and the realisation that maybe they don't actually know each other all that well or have anything to say to each other or all that much in common. they've never really spent a lot of time one-on-one before. i imagine those months as very quiet and very lonely and filled with a lot of revelations about their relationship that they tell themselves they'll deal w when the war is over. obvs in canon that never happens.

in a non-canon context, i think they're both incredibly stubborn, and convinced that they're right for each other and this is the life they want, and, without the isolation that arose from their specific war-time circumstances, it would take them a long time to realise that their marriage is built on the foundation of fundamentally failing to understand and see each other for who they are. and even when they do realise this, it takes a long time for either of them to do anything about it bc, like i said, stubborn, but also. terrified of what it means if the one thing that's always felt certain and inevitable, is falling to pieces around them. they're scared of those uncharted waters, and also a little embarrassed, and also entirely horrified at what's become of them. they're clinging to the broken pieces of the façade that was their relationship.

i think this is also a very internal thing, in terms of like each of them internally, but also mainly in terms of the breakdown of their marriage mostly taking place behind closed doors, in their house, where it's just the two of them (and baby harry) and there's no one to perform in front of. and they argue and they cry and they try to hold things together and eventually they both come to the realisation that they can't do it anymore, no matter how scary and unknown whatever comes next is, and quietly go through the process of a divorce. their relationship begins with bright swirling colours and loud glittering celebration and a kind of manufactured joy and ends with a messy kind of honesty, and closure even if i kinda think they'll never fully understand each other, and horror & guilt & anger & fear about the time wasted and the times to come...... so.........

anyway all this to say cal's involvement was a tiny-mentioned cameo to explain why anakin knew how to infiltrate nur (the exact line i wrote in the never-finished-script was "we met this jedi survivor a few years back" + comments abt said survivor inflitrating nur 10 years ago yes it was that unsubtle) -- the idea was they had run into one another on a short mission in the past and then gone their separate ways!

Yes! I’m writing a fanfic set about 15 years after canon, the first chapter is posted on ao3! <- (link) I’ll be updating it till I either finish it or lose motivation…. Hopefully the former rather than the latter. I’ve already got big plans for it, though…

I also may draw some stuff for it…. Like these! They’re concepts for how I imagine adult Becky and Tobey! (Need to be reworked, not happy with the proportions since I want Becky to be taller than Tobey, plus I’m not happy with Tobey’s outfit quite yet…)
