Hey! I have a request. But please ignore this if you want to, I did see your last post saying how you have alot of requests at the moment! So please don't ever feel like you need to write this okay? Just something basic, pregnant reader is really struggling to fall asleep because baby girl won't stop kicking her mama. Billie wakes up and just rubs her belly and gives us reassurance. She even tries to make us laugh by having a "talk" with the baby telling her to stop hurting her mama or mommy's not gonna be happy. We find it hilarious. We end up falling asleep to billie spooning up and rubbing out stomach and gently rubbing the top of our head because she knows that helps us fall asleep.
- but thank you so so much for taking the time to read this. Once again, please don't write this if you don't want to! I love ya đ«¶đ»
Hey there my love! Hope you like it! Thank you so much for your kindness and understanding đ„°
ââââââââââââââââ-ââââââââââ
A soft whimper escapes your lips as you feel your unborn daughter move about inside your womb. Youâve been trying so hard to fall asleep, but to no avail. Of course, it is always a joy and relief to you whenever you feel your baby kick, but it seems that sheâs picked the worst part of the dayâ well, night in the caseâ to be active.
You carefully sit yourself up straighter, breathing slowly in and out just as your doctor had suggested a few days ago, praying that you donât wake up your sleeping wife. Despite knowing that Billie wouldnât mind if you woke her up, you feel bad at the thought of doing so. Sheâs been working so hard when it comes to balancing work and taking care of you, and you know that she needs her rest as much as you do.
âPlease let Mama sleep,â you murmur softly as you run your belly in attempt to calm your daughter. Just then, you feel a hand touch your shoulder. Your wife has woken up.
âY/N? Is everything alright?â Billie asks, her voice groggy yet full of concern.
âShe wonât stop kicking, Billie,â you whimper, wincing as you feel another strong kick. âAnd it hurts. All I want to do is sleep.â
âHow can I help, my love?â Billie offers as she gently rubs your swollen belly.
âCan you please get another pillow for my back?â you request and Billie nods.
âYes, of course,â she replies and kisses your forehead before hurrying off to find the pillow. She comes back a moment later and helps you lean forward so that she can put the pillow behind your back.
âThank you, my love,â you sigh, reveling in the small amount of relief.
âYouâre welcome.â Billie rubs your baby bump, her ocean blue eyes looking into yours with such tenderness and love. âI know itâs hard, sweetheart. Youâre doing such an amazing job. Soon weâll have our little girl, and sheâs going to be just as beautiful as you.â
âOh, Billie,â you murmur, tears swelling in your eyes. âYouâre the sweetest.â
âOnly for my girls,â Billie chuckles softly before pressing a kiss to your belly. âDamn, sheâs having a party in there!â
âOf courseâ sheâs your daughter, after all,â you tease with a smirk and Billie sticks her tongue out playfully at you.
âHmm, I wonderâŠâ Billie muses with a playful gleam in her eyes. She then makes a fist with her hand and taps on the imaginary microphone in her hand. âHello? Is this thing on? Can you hear Mommy, baby girl?â
You canât help but stifle a laugh. Then, at the feel of your daughter kicking her again, you tell her, âShe can hear you loud and clear, Bills.â
âNow, baby girl,â Billie begins in a mock-stern voice. âListen to Mommy. I know how much you think itâs fun to kick your mama like sheâs a soccer ball but she needs her rest. And if you donât stop kicking her by the time I count to threeâŠâ
âBillie, oh my God,â you laugh out loud, shaking your head fondly at your wife.
âOne⊠two⊠three,â Billie counts and the two f you hold your breath.
âI think⊠it worked,â you breathe in awe and Billie smirks.
âGuess we know whoâs her favorite mother,â your wife teases and you gasp, feigning hurt.
âAfter all I do for youâŠâ you tisk, running your belly. You then smile at Billie. âThank you for helping, my love. And Iâm sorry that I woke you.â
âYou have nothing to apologize for, Y/N. Weâre in this together,â Billie reassures you and brings your hand up to her lips, kissing it.
âCuddle us?â you request with a pout and Billie nods with a smile.
Billie helps you lay back down on the bed and once you are comfortable, she cuddles up from behind you, your back pressed against her chest. She wraps her arm under your bump, her thumb gently caressing there, and kisses your temple. You slowly begin to relax under her touch, her fingers gently massaging your scalp just the way you like it.
âGood night, my baby girls,â Billie murmurs softly, and your heart swells.
âGood night, Billie,â you hum as you close your eyes, grateful to have your wife right by your side, no matter what time of day or night.

I fear we may share a braincell or you can read minds Noona bevause I was thinking of an Omega reader whos CIA and brought in my Laswell to work with the taskforce, they're like one of the best hackers in the world and are needed for their next operation. Everyone assumes because their an omega they're weak and easily manipulated so when one of ghe recruits gets a bit bold and starts trying to get handsy with them, TF141 goes to step in but Laswell stops them and asks them to just watch the interaction, alk they're eyes going wide as she says "touch me again and it will be the last thing you do with that hand" and the recruit just laughs it off and starts running their jand up the omegas arm again so she just rolls her eyes and grabs it, twisting it until she hears bones break and then takes a knife (that they carry for this exact reason) and stabs their wrist into the thigh going for the point of maximum damage and nerve loss so he couldnât infact use his hand again, and kicking them in the chest. When the recruit is on the ground. She just bends over and says "just because Im an omega doesnt mean Im weak". TF141 are just standing with their jaws slack and hearts hammering as she approaches them and Soaps the first one to break out ofnit with a "blood hell bonnie, whered you learn to do that"
God bless that braincell because I love this đ© always been a sucker for the proving assumptions wrong trope and this is sooo delicious, thank you đ«¶đ» you can bet they were all turned on af after that but also. The recruit is sooo getting dragged through hell by them much later lmao

âI think these are the last ones,â Wooyoung says, patting the stack of boxes next to him. âDid we get everything from your side?â
âYeah, we emptied that out yesterday,â you say. âThis⊠this is it.â
San hums thoughtfully, putting an arm around each of you. âEnd of an era isnât it?â
The three of you stand by the doorway to the living area, looking over an empty, forlorn apartment.
Depressingly bare walls, furniture replaced by nostalgia. It doesnât even look like anyone ever stayed here at all. The only concrete proof of your life here is the kitchen cabinetâs crooked door, busted when San hit his head so hard youâd worried he fractured his skull.
Even now, face to face with the empty room, it feels surreal to leave it all behind. No more paper-thin walls, no clumsily bumping into each other in the cramped kitchenette, no more sneaking through the buildingâs hallway in the early mornings or late nights.
Suddenly every small inconvenience is filtered through the rose-coloured lens of sentimentality, like theyâre something to be treasured. Maybe they are. The little imperfections that brought texture to the flavourful sweetness of everything good.
All three of you take a moment, keenly aware youâre saying goodbye to the space where you collided into them; collided, and then intertwined. Thereâs a lot here to be grateful for.
Wooyoung is the one to break the spell. He nods his head with a big sigh, like he's bracing himself. âReady to go?â
âYeah,â you say, matching his sigh. âJust one more thing left to do here, right?â
San and Wooyoung divide the boxes between them; you are already holding a large flower bouquet. Itâs time for your final goodbye in this building.
Together, you take the elevator down one floor, then walk over to the apartment placed directly underneath yours. You ring the doorbell, and it does not take long before Mrs Yoon opens the door.
âOh? Oh! Itâs you kids!â The crinkles in her face deepen into a wide smile, and she curiously eyes the boxes. âToday is the big day then, hm?â
San bows his head politely. âWeâre officially moved out, yes,â he says, a tinge of red across his cheeks. âUm. Sorry for all the trouble weâve caused.â
âNonsense,â she scolds. âNo trouble at all, Iâm sad to see you go. Itâll be so quiet around here without you!â
The redness on Sanâs face intensifies but Wooyoung just giggles, immune to Mrs Yoonâs light teasing. âStill, we didnât want to go without getting you a little something,â Wooyoung says, âa thank you for putting up with us!â
âAhh, Wooyoungie, you shouldnât have!â Mrs Yoon coos adoringly over him like heâs her favourite grandson, lovingly pinching his cheeks. She lets out a small gasp of surprise when you hand the flowers over to her. âThese are for me? Really?â
âReally,â you say. âItâs the least we could do!â
The bouquet looks comically huge in her tiny arms, almost drowning her in camellias and hydrangeas; but Mrs Yoon just beams with delight, taking a deep whiff of the sweet aromas. Even with the flowers, she still manages to reach for your cheek, patting it in gratitude.
âWishing you and your friends all the best in your new home, sweetie,â she says warmly. âFeel free to drop by if youâre ever back in the neighbourhood.â
âWe will, Mrs Yoon,â you promise, a pleasant glow in your chest at the word âfriendsâ. âThank you for looking out for us.â
The three of you part ways with Mrs Yoon, regretfully declining an invitation to come inside for a cup of tea. Your new home waits for you.
The new apartment is not too far from the old place, just a short ride away. Wooyoung is driving the car that Yunho was gracious enough to lend you, and youâre next to him in the front seat, his hand resting casually on your thigh. San is behind you, leaned forward with his chin on the backrest while he sweetly hums along to some romantic pop-song on the radio.
You bask in the warm glow of sunlight filtering through the window, smiling at Sanâs smooth voice while your hand rests on top of Wooyoungâs. Itâs easy, itâs comfortable. Outside the car, your surroundings slowly grow less and less familiar, though you know thatâll come with time. You look forward to it.
Finally you reach the compexâs underground parking lot where Wooyoung neatly parks Yunhoâs car. You unload the boxes, and find the elevators after a brief moment of disorientation.
Youâre not on the top floor this time, but this building is taller so youâre still up higher than before. Finally you exit the elevator, and nostalgia is pushed back in favour of excitement as you walk over to your front door. One single door, for all three of you.
(Of course, you practically lived together already anyway, but it still feels different like this. More solid. Words and promises of long-term commitment transformed into tangible fact.)
You type in the freshly memorised code into the keypad, and the door opens.
The apartment is bigger and nicer than your old place; itâd be far too expensive for you alone, but thatâs the practical benefit of splitting rent three ways. Itâs still a mess, of course, unpacked boxes all over the place, but already you can see glimpses what itâs going to be, the home youâll make out of this cluttered chaos.
Already thereâs a small bustle of friends moving around the place, helping you to settle in. Even Hongjoong took time off, standing in the (significantly larger) kitchenette with a puzzled expression as he goes through one of the boxes.
You make a beeline towards him, and Hongjoong grins as you approach, making a show of groaning in annoyance when you lay a bear-hug on him.
âWhat kind of highbrow culinary types did you move in with? I donât even know what half of these are,â he sighs, toying with a basic garlic press as he glances at the wide array of appliances strewn on the kitchen island. âMakes me feel like Iâm not adulting right.â
âItâs alright, not all of us can be kitchen princesses. Thatâs Wooyoungâs purview,â you joke.
Hongjoong snorts. âIs that your way of saying you also donât know what half of these are?â
âPff, donât lump me in with you. I know at least three quarters of them.â
âWow, impressive! Let me know when you earn your first Michelin Star.â
He grins when you playfully elbow him in the side, and together you unpack the rest of the box, enjoying the bustle of activity around you.
A few people are walking back and forth, sorting out boxes and putting them in the right place. Seonghwa and Yeosang have taken up most of the floorspace to assemble a large bookcase, looking somewhat bamboozled by the instructions. San is setting out Byeolâs things already, even though sheâll stay at his sisterâs as a guest until youâre all settled in.
He wrestles with putting her climbing tree back together when a sudden flash of light distracts him; Wooyoung has grabbed his camera. To do a little documenting of the event, he claims.
âWooyoung-ssi,â Yeosang says pointedly, âarenât you just avoiding having to do any real work?â
âCome on, itâs important to save some memories of today!â Wooyoung says enthusiastically, utterly undeterred by his oldest friendâs scepticism. Instead he snaps a quick shot of Yeosang instead, who instantly shields his face. This only escalates into Wooyoung trying to take a selfie with Yeosang, which escalates into him trying to land a smooch on Yeosangâs cheek.
You watch their shenanigans with a wide, bright smile, and Hongjoong watches you with a thoughtful expression in turn.
âSoâŠâ he says in a slow drawl. âWhat was that you once told me? That you got nothing âinvolvedâ going on with these guys?â
Heat flares up on your face. âShut up,â you mumble, embarrassed at the reminder of how deeply in denial you used to be. Letâs face it; San and Wooyoung had firmly pulled you into their orbit from the very start.
Hongjoong chuckles and pats your shoulder. âItâs fine. Iâm just glad you were right about the most important thing.â
You give him a confused look. â?â
His eyes soften, a crooked smile on his face. âThat I didnât have to worry about you.â
You swallow thickly, a sudden lump in your throat at his sincerity. âYeah? Well donât think that means youâre off the hook for our irregularly scheduled videocalls,â you joke awkwardly, prodding him in the side again. âItâs not like the guys replaced you or something. I still want my bestie too.â
âGood!â he chuckles. âAnyway, they couldnât if they tried. Iâm pretty irreplaceable.â
âOh my god, shut up,â you laugh, whapping him on the shoulder.
You try to continue unpacking the kitchen supplies; but you soon get distracted when Yunho struggles to carry a gigantic potted plant, and you realise heâs about to set it down in the living area.
âYunho wait, hang on! That goes outside!â
You abandon Hongjoong to guide Yunho out to the modestly sized balcony.
âHere, here,â you usher him to a corner, where the plant will provide some nice shade and privacy.
Yunho sighs in relief when he can set the heavy pot down, stretching his back with a low groan as he stands upright again. He looks around curiously, looking around the balcony. Itâs not much, with just some old garden furniture that Wooyoungâs parents âdonatedâ to you, but the plant makes a good start to cosy it up properly.
âHuh. Hadnât been out here yet,â he says, putting his hands on the metal railing to lean forward and take in the view. âItâs nice.â
Your eyes get momentarily distracted by how his long fingers curl around the handrail, but then you tear your gaze away and look out over the neighbourhood together. Itâs mostly other apartment complexes, but thereâs a big park with plenty of greenery and a pond nearby too, next to a busy kidsâ playground.
âYeah,â you agree with a wistful smile. âReally nice.â
You glance at Yunho again. All the initial awkwardness between you has faded by now; San, Wooyoung and him were eager to make up for lost time, so heâs been around quite a bit. You donât mind. You like Yunho.
(Not just because he has distracting hands. Heâs every bit as funny and dependable as your first impression led you to believe. It didnât take long for you to grow just as fond of Yunho as the guys are.)
âAnd if you think about it, I got you to thank for it all!â you joke, grinning at Yunho. âReally, if you hadnât played cupid, I wouldnât have ended up here.â
Yunho blinks in confusion. âCupid?â
âYeah? You set San and Wooyoung up, right? San told me you played matchmaker.â
ââŠâŠHuh. That is what San thinks I was doing?â He lets out an awkward, breathy chuckle, rubbing the back of his head.
âYou werenât?â You frown at Yunho. âBut you introduced them, right?â
âY-Yeah, butâ Never mind,â he says, his ears going red. âItâs not important.â
You give him a stubborn look. âUm. No. No, you canât leave me hanging there. Whatâs not important?â
Yunho sees the look in your eyes, and after a long moment he gives a slow nod and straightens up. He glances at the open balcony door, but nobody inside is paying you any particular mind.
He leans forward, conspiratorially, dropping his voice low. The secrecy is causing your heart to bump faster in your chest; what the hell happened?
âOkay so, uh. No, I didnât set them up,â Yunho says. âSure, Iâm really happy that it worked out so well for them, but⊠no, I just meant to test the waters for a bit, to see if things clicked between us, and then⊠I could see if they were interest in doing⊠other stuff together.â
âStuff?â you ask â but the redness of Yunhoâs ears deepens, and a lightbulb turns on in your head. âWait,â you hiss, lowering your own voice as you lean even closer to him. âYou introduced them to have a threesome? And they started dating instead??â
âBasically, yeah!â he chuckles awkwardly. âAnd really, itâs no big deal, Iâm happy to see my friends happy. I saw the way they hit it off, figured Iâd give them some space to figure things out. Thought I could always pitch the idea later â well, until Wooyoung told me San wanted to be monogamous.â
âOh god,â you say, growing more and more aghast as your brain works overtime, linking up all the dots Yunho is throwing at you. âAnd then San asked you for advice about me.â
âYeah, Iâll admit it â that one stung!â he laughs, about five percent pained. The last lingering hints of a grudge still holding on.
âI bet it did, fuck Iâm so sorryââ
âNot your fault,â Yunho says, patting your shoulder with a reassuring smile.
You puff out a flustered burst of air, and shake off your embarrassment. Yeah, heâs right. This isnât your fault. ââŠIs it weird that Iâm kind of offended on your behalf?â you say with an awkward grin (god this is all so awkward). âLike, I know San and Wooyoung can be a bit oblivious, especially when they get stuck in each otherâs little lovestruck tunnel vision, but seriously? They never realised??â
âEh,â Yunho shrugs. âItâs on me too, I misjudged. Clearly shouldnât have taken the subtle approach.â
You snort. âOkay yeah, maybe itâs a little on you too. The subtle approach? For those two?â
âHey! Whatcha talking about?â San says out of nowhere, poking his head around the doorway like a devil who has belatedly realised someone spoke of him. âThought I heard my name!â
You freeze instantly and fumble for an answer. âUuhhhhhhhâŠâ
Wooyoungâs head pokes out from behind Sanâs broad shoulders. âHm? Are you guys gossiping about us?â
âUmmâŠâŠâŠâŠâ
But Yunho just lets out a dry chuckle, unfazed by the interruption. âYeah, actually,â he says with an easygoing smile. âI was just telling her that I never meant to play matchmaker for you two.â
âYou werenât?â San asks in surprise. âI thoughtâŠâ
âI know,â Yunho interrupts him, not unkindly. âBut no, I was trying to set us for a threesome.â
A deep, deep silence falls that strikes even Wooyoung.
Heâs just staring at Yunho wide-eyed, the gears in his head ground to a complete halt. San has gone full crimson in the cheeks, putting Yunhoâs faintly red ears to shame.
âWhat?â Yunho laughs when he sees your surprised face. âYou said it yourself; no room for subtlety with these two. It was bound to come out sometime anyway. No time like the present.â
âYou know what? Fair,â you say, relaxing back into a laugh of your own.
âW-wait, you what??â San finally stammers out.
Yunho casually leans his side against the balcony railing, shrugging at San. âIs it really that big a surprise, coming from me?â
Wooyoungâs shock has slowly morphed into a thoughtful expression as the gears in his head come back into motion. Keen interest shines in his eyes as he looks back-and-forth from Sanâs flustered blush to you and Yunho, grinning at each other.
âSo uh,â Wooyoung says, mischief creeping into the curve of his crooked smile, ââŠis having sex together still on the table?â
final notes: yes, i am planning to do a one-shot sequel lol. you are getting that yunwoosan foursome smut scene <3 originally it was part of the epilogue, but i decided it works better as its own, separate thing
but this still is the end of the main series, the story of Woosan & reader coming together, and i am a big ball of emotion over it asdkjdsajk. thankyou for reading my fic, and for all the incredibly kind words iâve received; this was a very special, personal project to me, and i hope it gave you some good times âĄ

"Good morning guests!"
"Good morning, Lana!"
The chorus of uncharacteristically chipper voices ring out from the beds around you, usually to monotonous and bleak in stark contrast to the early morning sun streaming in through the large windows.
"Luckily for you, this is the last morning you'll have to wake up to the sound of my voice," she jokes, earning a couple chuckles from the group. Limbs stretch from beneath blankets all around, and you slowly make an appearance as you untangle yourself from Lucien's grasp.
"Aw, Lana, I was just getting used to it!" Cassian chides, and Lana's lights flicker.
"No need to worry, Cassian -- I'm sure if things with Nesta don't work out, I'll be seeing you back here next season." This earns him a few sidelong glances and guffaws from his friends.
"Damn Lana... you're ruthless today!"
"I am -- I've got a big decision to make," she continues. "As it is the last day of the retreat, and many of you have come such a long way from where you were when you first arrived, I am sure I'll find difficulty in choosing a winner for the prize fund, which currently sits at $110,000." Hushed voices flicker between beds, but Lana continues nonetheless.
"In addition to the winner being announced, you may remember that those in couples get an extra treat today; their final dates," she reminds. You blush as you glance beside you and catch Lucien's gaze, his stare already fized on you. A small smile blooms on his lips when he meets your eye.
"So -- everyone get ready. Couples, I'll see you on the dock in one hour; everyone else, please enjoy your last day at the retreat to spend as you please." Her lights dim, and a few members mutter their thanks before blankets are thrown back in haste and guests begin making way for the showers and dressing rooms.
"I wonder what kind of date we'll get?" Lucien's deep morning voice says, and you feel the flicker of heat between your thighs. His gaze still searches every inch of you, taking in every strand of hair and every inch of skin like its the last time he'd see you.
"I'm not sure," you say, shifting beneath the blanket. His hand finds your waist, tugging you close so he can wrap his arms around you again.
"Luciennn," you groan, his signature earthy aroms immediately infultrating your senses (just the way you like). "I need to get ready-"
"Well, I need five more minutes to snuggle you," he says, resting his chin atop your head. You bury your face into his bare chest, reveling in the feel of his skin against your cheek. You hated to admit it, but you needed those five minutes just as much.
"Five minutes," you agree.
ïŸ:* â§ïœ„ïŸ: *
"I knew Lana was bougie -- but to get us each a yacht?"
Helion's teasing remark was acknowledged with a few nods, most of the guests staring out at the blue ocean in awe. He couldn't be more correct; at the end of the dock, five gleaming white yachts madetheir way to the shore. As the first one approached, the Captain appeared from the lower deck and set the boat at an idle speed.
"One ship for guests, Cassian and, Nesta!" He called. Nesta glanced sidelong at you, and you could only offer her a shrug before her giddy counterpart took off toward the ship. She huffed in amusement, following gracefully behind.
"Captain Wheathers," he introduced, shaking Cassian's hand. "I'll be taking the both of you out today -- any questions please feel free to ask." Cassian bounces from foot to foot with excitement.
"Awesome, man! Hey, nice toy you got here. Real clean," he muses. You can practically feel Nesta's eyes roll, and you can't help the small chuckle you let out. As they disembark, the group waves them off and the next boat pulls in.
"Guests Rhysand and Feyre, please!"
"Ooh! That's, us, Rhys!" Feyre squeals. Her excitement makes you smile, a sentiment Rhysand seems to share as she giddily grabs his hand and steps toward the edge of the dock. Your heart swells as he pulls her close, holding her for balance as she takes a wobbly step onto the ship.
"I wonder when it'll be our turn," Lucien purrs, his fingers tracing along the curve of your waist. You'd opted for your white bikini today (Lucien's pick, actually) and sheer skirt cover up -- his touch only sent goosebumps over your bare skin.
"Soon, I'm sure of it-"
"Lucien Vanserra, and Y/N Y/L/N, please?"
You hadn't realized Feyre and Rhys had left, let alone another boat had arrived. Reguardless, Lucien's fingers find yours, threading through in the same way you've come to find familiar by now, and you both step forward to the end of the dock.

"The ride should be short -- maybe, fifteen or twenty minutes at this speed before we get to the designated spot," Captain Morgan explains.
"But, while we ride, please -- feel free to move about, there are drinks, snacks, food, water... I believe they have the picnic lunches in there for you when we make the stop, though." He winks.
"Thank you, sir!" Lucien says politely, bracing his hands on the railing near where the Captain is navigating the boat. He gives him a polite nod back in response.
You decide to make yourself comfortable on one of the couches, the plush seat more inviting than standing and balancing against the crashing waves the boat is cutting through. Lucien doesn't seem to mind, still glued to the railing as he peers out at the line where the sky meets the sea.
Sitting back, you take in the view yourself. You really could not have gotten luckier. Truly... the male before you, radiant in all his glory, shining as though he is the sun himself. Never would you have dreamt of meeting someone so special, so caring -- Hell, all the males you'd been with before only care about themselves, or what Avenue they live on, or only seemed to talk too much about the damned stock market.
Lucien though... Gods. He truly was made perfectly. The way his amber hair flowed against his gorgeously tan skin, his perfectly toned arms and his lean torso -- I mean, he was tall, his legs went on for miles, and he was talented in so many ways, other than being so smart, so funny, so caring about how others felt-
"We have arrived!"
You blinked, practically shaking your head to come out of your stupor. The soft click of the keys as the Captain shuts off the engine has your gaze wandering, looking out at the vast open ocean -- no dock, no shoreline in sight. Just wide open blue... and two, multicolored eyes looking back at you.
"Too busy checking me out to notice we parked?" Lucien chuckles, stalking over to where you're seated. Your cheeks flush, but you know it's true.
"No," you scoff. "I wasn't... doing that. I was, distracted. By... something else." He takes a seat next to you, leaning in close as his gaze flickers to the top of your bikini bra.
"I was a little distracted too, every time we went over a wave," he whispers lowly. Your breath catches in your throat, the heated feeling between your legs returning from earlier this morning.
The sound of an appoaching engine cuts the moment short, and Lucien leans back, crossing his arms over his broad chest as he smirks at your flushed expression. "Hey, I think it was cute that you were lookin' at me anyway." He winks. You roll your eyes.
"Lucien, I said I wasn't-"
"Alright, so -- the staff ship is here to pick me up, I just wanted to go over a few things with you guys before I headed out," Captain Morgan explains. You straighten, and he points toward the water below.
"We'll be back at the villa for around two hours," he checks his watch. "It's eleven now, so around one p.m. we should be making rounds to come back and pick everyone up to head back for the evening," he explains. He then motions to the lower cabin, pointing out safety supplies, the emergency phone, medical kit, and other necessities. Then he gets to the upper deck.
"Finally -- you have access to the upper deck. There is food and drinks provided should you choose to have those, but again please use caution when consuming alcohol. Also, swimming... of course, you can swim, this is the ocean. Please, use, caution, and always remember we are just a phone call away." He ends with a smile.
"Thank you so much-" Lucien starts as the Captain turns to exit, but he quickly turns back to us before departing.
"Oh! Almost forgot. The other boats are within driving distance, but not necessarily swimming or seeing eye distance. So, if you need anything, it is best to just use the phone." He gestures to the emergency phone again before bracing his hands on the exit ladder. "I also do want to point out that you are out in the open, and the boats are equipped with cameras so... maybe, uh... keep that in mind, too." He chuckles, meeting Lucien's eye and earning a laugh from him too. You could not feel anymore embarassed, but thankfully the man starts to climb down, making way for the awaiting deck full of other crew members.
"Have a good time!" He calls, and the boat speeds off, leaving the two of you alone. In the middle of the ocean. On a single yacht.
All to yourselves.
In that moment, your stomach rumbles, and before you can cough or try to cover it up, Lucien lets out a joyful laugh. His contagious Colgate smile only makes you humor the situation, and he dramatically motions toward the stairs leading up toward the upper deck.
"Shall we, my hungry lady?"
That earns him a smack on the shoulder -- but, the stairs you ascend.
ïŸ:* â§ïœ„ïŸ: *
The calming sound of the ocean around you only made the moment more perfect. That compiled with the warmth from the midday sun, the feel of the plush towel beneath you, and the burst of juicy raspberry on your tongue -- it was intoxicating, a feeling you almost wished would never end.
And to top it all off, you got to share it all with the most wonderful male you'd ever met.
"So, what do you think you'll miss most about this place when we leave?" He asks, casually popping a grape in his mouth before looking up at you.
You, is your first thought as you gaze down at him, his casual position on the towel propped up on his forearm. You reach for a cheese cube, trying to come up with an answer that sounds less clingy.
"Well... I mean, this has felt like such a vacation, it's beautiful here," you say, peering out at the water. You sit with your ankles crossed, leaned onto one hip as one of your hands lays flat on the deck floor.
"It is beautiful here," he agrees. "I think you are beautiful, Y/N." Your gaze returns, and you watch as a slow smile creeps onto his face. You chuckle, shaking your head at his praise.
"Well, thank you." You say, reaching for your water bottle and sipping the rest of it. "I think you're quite handsome yourself."
"Ahh, really?" His hand clutches his heart in faux-surprise as he makes to stand, extending his hand to you. "I'll take it for you."
You look up at him, shielding your eyes in the blinding sun. "Oh, are you sure? I mean, I can-"
"Please. Allow me." He gently takes your empty bottle, turning to head down the stairs. You sigh, taking in the air around you again. You need to tell him, today. More than ever, you know how you feel, and leaving this place without him would be the worst heartbreak you'd ever felt -- like part of you would be without, somewhere in the world, and you don't know if you'd be able to handle that.
You're sure of it.
In minutes he's back... this time, without a shirt. He is balancing two fresh waters in one hand and two sparkling glasses of champagne in the other. He sets them before you with ease, settling down on the other side of the towel with a smile.
"I found the champagne," he says, brows raised as he gestures to the glasses. You grin, taking one and handing the other to him.
"I see that," You say. "But, you forgot your shirt."
He laughs and he takes the stem from you. "Hey, I got hot!" He holds out the rim for a toast. "Surely, you're not complaining...?" You shake your head slowly, and he winks at you.
"What should we toast to?" He asks, and you take in a breath.
"Hmm... our last day here, in paradise. We made it, baby!" You smile, and he laughs.
"We made it, baby! Me and sticky fingers, on a yacht, on our last day in paradise! Cheers to that." He clinks his glass with yours, and you take a long sip, the bubbles tingling your throat as you swallow it. Momentary sadness washes over you, anxiety over the words you know are to come, how he would respond. You set down your glass.
"What... do you think you'll miss most?" You ask. Lucien's brows raise, and he sets down his flute as well. He chews the inside of his lip, contemplating for a moment before he settles on an answer.
"Well, I was going to try to come up with a simple answer, or one that didn't come off so, attached, but," he fumbles. "To be honest, I think what I'm going to miss the most is you, Y/N."
A knot begins to form in your throat. A few beats of silence pass before you speak.
"Maybe... maybe, you don't have to." Your gaze lifts from the towel, his hopeful eyes meeting yours. You stare at eachother for what feels like eternity, the silence between you filled with a hundred unspoken words.
"Lucien," you whisper, your voice coming out shakier than you like. "I... I don't want to leave here without you." His eyes widen, and your heartbeat quickens.
"I don't want to not be around you," you say, an ounce of confidence behind your words this time. "I... I want to, take you to my favorite places. And, I want to, show you the town I grew up in, and-" you pause, the lump in your throat growing so tight you feel like you may not breathe. "I want you to be in all of the memories I still haven't made yet, Lucien. I- I don't think, I could make them, with someone, else." You say quietly. When you look to him again, he blinks back at you, so locked in on what you're admitting that he'd leaned closer and physically scooted across the towel to sit nearer.
"Lucien, say something, please-"
"I love you, Y/N." He interrupts, the words coming out crystal clear. His hands take yours, his gaze searching your expression for any sign of doubt at his monumental confession.
"Oh my Gods, Y/N, I'm so sorry, I shouldn't have just dropped that on you like that, I-"
You don't give him a chance to answer, pulling him in and crashing your lips onto his in the most passionate kiss the two of you had shared yet. He immediately gave in, his mouth moving in time with yours as his hands guided your fingers to brace against his shoulders before his own snaked around your waist. He pulled you onto his lap, his hands caressing every inch of skin across your back and waist as you continued pressing your lips against his with fervor, relishing in the taste of the man that you could admit you loved.
Only pulling back a few inches, Lucien's brow narrowed slightly at the lack of mouth-to-mouth contact -- but you only smiled down at him as your hands held the sides of his face.
"I love you too," you said, and watched as his breath quickened in realization before his mouth was on yours once again. You weren't sure if he even registered that the two of you recieved your green light, but to you, that wasn't what mattered the most anyway.
ïŸ:* â§ïœ„ïŸ: *
You pressed a soft kiss to Lucien's cheek as you lay beside him, basking in the afternoon sun. After your heartleft confession (and rather heated makeout session to follow), you'd both jumped in the ocean and swam for a bit before growing tired and ending up on the deck once more, lying upon the towels in the sun.
"Do you feel different since you got here?" Lucien asks. You sit up, the sun growing a bit too warm on your face as you peer down at him. He shields his eyes from the rays so he can look up at you.
"Hmm..." You consider. "I suppose I am different in some ways, I guess. I mean, not who I am really, but I feel like I am, complete, in a way. I feel better, now. Maybe, because I met you." Your own words send a thrill through you, knowing Lucien really could be the one, and he grins up at you, reaching to tuck a stray strand of damp hair behind your ear.
"I know I've changed," he says, dropping his hand. "Not the same country kid from Carolina that walked in here a few months ago, thats for sure." He shrugs.
Oh right. That.
"About that," you bite your lip, twiddling with your fingers. Lucien registers the silence, adjusting to a sitting positon to face you fully.
"What is it?" He asks, his fingers lightly taking yours to stop you from fidgeting.
"I... Lucien, what do we... where do we go? From here?" You ask, and he chuckles.
"What, was the 'I love you' not indication enough?"
"No, I just mean, like... tomorrow, after Lana announces the winner, and we all get on planes," sadness swells in your chest. "I'll board mine to New York, and... well, you'll get on a flight to-"
"Hey, hey." He stops you, his hands cupping your face as he pulls you close to him. You can feel your emotions bubbling inside you, threatening to bubble over with every tender brush of his thumb across your cheek. "I've been honest with you since we met, Y/N. Don't think that changes now," he kisses the crown of your head, and meets your gaze once more. "Especially, now." You offer a sad smile, shaking your head slightly.
"Lucien... I'm not saying I'm unwilling to try, but you know how often long-distance relationships actually work out, I-"
"Who said anything about distance?" His brows form a flat line on his forehead. You lean back an inch to look up at him, not quite understanding.
"Lucien-"
"Y/N, I'll move to New York with you." He says, then looks side to side. "I mean, if that's what you want, and it's not too invasive, I mean."
You shake your head, not quite believing your ears. "Lucien... I... you can't just, uproot your whole life, I mean," you stutter. "You... your real estate business, your job, I mean," He kisses your cheek.
"Sweetheart, do you know how big I could go with real estate in New York?" He chuckles, and you continue your wide-eyed gaze at him. "Besides, I already told you my family is from all-over. I don't have real 'roots' where I'm at now anyways." He shrugs as though the two of you were discussing flavors of cereal.
You swallow hard, thinking of this very big, very new change that was very quickly becoming your new reality. Lucien, moving all the way to New York to be with you. Tears pricked the corners of your eyes, and you looked up at his grinning face once more.
"What if you don't like it there?" You ask, and he barks out a laugh. His hands snake around your waist, pulling you to sit as close as possible to him to the point where mere inches separeted the two of you.
"I'd be happy in any city, as long as you're there with me, sticky fingers." You loose the battle of holding back the tears, and they begin freefalling down your cheeks. He doesn't hesitate to wipe them away, gently running his fingers through your hair and pressing soft kisses atop your head while you work through your overwhelming emotion.
Wrapping your arms around him, you snuggle close, inhaling as much of him as you can. If you could, you'd stay like this forever -- luckily, you would rest easy knowing you'd leave Lana's retreat tomorrow with Lucien, not only as an official couple, but quite literally together. A simple helping hand and playful conversation is what led to this beautiful thing the two of you had created; and now, you had forever to look forward to.
"I love you," you whispered against his skin, as his arms only hugged you tighter.
ïŸ:* â§ïœ„ïŸ: *
The group buzzed with anticipation the next morning as everyone sat in the cabana awaiting Lana's arrival. The rest of yesterday went off without a hitch -- everyone talked about their dates, many green lights were once again given, and the singles in the group were able to use their free time to get in one last day at the villa to do as they pleased.
This morning, though, the entire property was utter chaos; packing, running around, items being stuffed into suitcases, and so many emootional exchanges were all happening at once as the gravity of what was happening today seemed to finally settle on many of the group members.
Nonetheless, everyone was here now at the cabana. 11 a.m. sharp, just as Lana requested last night. No wake up call this morning, but you hadn't minded; what you thought would be your last night in a bed with Lucien turned out to be just another night. You could still remember the feeling of waking up this morning and imagining rolling over in your own bed, but finding him next to you instead of the empty sheets.
"Good morning, everyone." Lana greets, the cone appearing from beneath the fire pit.
"Good morning, Lana!" Everyone responds.
"Well, we have arrived at the final day of our retreat, haven't we?" She says, and a few girls make sad faces. "I always hate goodbyes -- but, I am pleased with how far many of you have come since you've arrived here a few short months ago. You've all done well, truly -- give yourselves a hand!"
The group claps, a few of the guys cheering before Lana lights up again.
"Alright, now let's settle. I know you've all got planes to catch." She pauses. "What always makes goodbyes a bit easier for me, is of course, a going-away gift, right?" She chuckles, and a few people agree.
"As you all know, I have a gift of my own -- my hefty little prize fund that I told you about all those months ago. Not so hefty now, but, still quite the chunk of change as it is $110,000." She earns a few cheers for this before she continues.
"Some seasons, I have guests vote for a winner -- other times, I choose one myself." She explains. "However, this go around, I've seen impeccable growth in two people who just so happen to be in an established relationship, and I'd like to award this prize to them both."
This certainly earns her some feedback. Luciens fingers squeeze your knee, and you look to him eagerly.
"So, without further adeu; this season, I'd like to give the Finale Prize to the couple..." she pauses, and everyone glances around to one another.
"... Lucien and Y/N!"
Immediately, you jump up, Lucien rising beside you as cheers erupt from the others. He scoops you in his arms, pulling you into a twirl as he hold you close to his chest. The entire group applauds, cheering louder as confetti and balloons are released above the cabana in celebration. When he finally sets you down, you stare up at him in excitement, your smile bright to mirror his own.
"We won it, baby!" He says, his hands holding you close aorund your waist.
"We won it!" You echo, and in that moment any and all rules are forgotten as he pulls you in for a kiss. His lips melt against yours, his touch full of love and pure adoration for the woman he is with; and you couldn't help but feel as though everything, in that moment, was right in your little world.
When he pulls back, he rests his forehead against yours. You can't help but smile, still reeling from everything happening around you.
"Let's go home, city girl." He says, pressing a quick kiss to the tip of your nose before wrapping his arms around you, pulling you close. You rest your cheek against the white cotton of his shirt, the end of a strand of his hair tickling your cheek.
"Let's go home."
ïŸ:* â§ïœ„ïŸ: *
5 Years Later
"Y/N, almost done in there?"
You huff, shoving the mascara wand back into the tube and pumping it a few times before yanking it back out again. You lean forward, mere inches from the mirror as you hold the end of the wand near your lashes.
"Yeeeah," you call out, so focused on coating every lash with the black makeup that you don't hear the soft knock on the door behind you. Let alone the telltale squeak of the hinge as it slowly opens.
"Sweetheart, Rhys texted me ten minutes ago saying they were pulling up-" Lucien's voice halts as he steps further into the small room, his eyes practically undressing you as you watch through the mirror.
"Sorry, I'm almost done-"
"Oh... no, take your time, baby." He steps close as you cap your makeup, pinning you to the counter from behind. You suck in a breath, meeting his hungry gaze through the glass as he hyperfixates on the low-cut neckline in the reflection.
"I'm happy to wait... riiiiight here." His hand slides along your waist, tracing every ridge and line of the skin-tight fabric. You smirk, the feeling of him pressed against you only growing harder. "This new?" He asks.
You smirk, watching his gaze dip lower. "You like it?"
He scoffs, pressing his chest to your back and bending you more over the counter. His breath is warm as it fans across the skin beneath your ear.
"I'd like it better, off." He growls, already playing with the little straps at your shoulders. "Gods, so pretty Y/N... always making me go crazy," he mumbles. You admit, the praise is nice, but -- you do have the Too Hot To Handle 5 Year Anniversary Dinner to get to.
"Fuck," he utters, kissing the top of your shoulder as his hands palm your ass. "You look so good..." He kisses the side of your neck, his hands grabbing at your waist. "Could just marry you right now."
You twist beneath him, turning to face him in an attempt to not get any more ideas. Chuckling, you hold up your left hand between the two of you.
"Eight months. Only eight more months, and then you can call me Mrs. Vanserra, alright?" The diamond glitters in the light, twinkling as he takes your fingers in his. He brings your knucles to his lips, kissing softly. Its only a moment before his eyes wander, shifting with the movement of every breath you take.
"Lucien -- dinner, remember?" You remind, but his eyes are glued to your cleavage. He shamelessly drags his hands up your sides, cupping your breasts in his palms and giving you a light squeeze before meeting your gaze again.
"I don't remember us having any plans, actually," he smirks, and you give him a knowing look. He drops his hands to your waist instead, effortlessly picking you up and sitting you on the counter so he can stand between your parted knees.
"Lucien, c'mon we're..." he leans in, his lips kissing along your collarbone softly.
"...so, so late." You gasp when he nips at the skin of your throat, his tongue rolling over the spot after. He's come to learn this is one of the things he can do to really get you going... and boy does he use it to his advantage.
That gasp turns into a full-on moan as his fingers dig into the meat of your ass through your dress, pressing your surely soaked panties to his strained cock through his pants. He makes his way up your neck, over your jaw, and to your lips before you begin moving involuntarily against him. Your mind wanders to the various times you'd been in this very bathroom the two of you had shared for years, all the ways he'd taken you on this very counter before.
Making you watch your reflection in the mirror as he pounded relentlessly into you from the back.
Kneeling before you as you held your knees apart, his tongue working your tight clit as you sat on the cool countertop.
Gods-
"Babe-" You pulled back, your eyes barely opening as he sucked in a breath of air before you. "Babe, we're so late, we really gotta go."
He sighs, leaning back further as your eyes widen. You can't help but giggle at the rosy red smudged across his lips and under his nose. He grimaces, his thumb swiping at the corner of your mouth.
"I might've messed up your lipstick a lil'," he confesses, his cheeks flushing a cute shade of pink. You grin, pressing a quick kiss to his lips before hopping off the counter and adjusting your dress.
"You can mess it up all you want... after, we go to dinner."
In minutes, he's lipstick-free and you're ready to walk out the door to meet your friends you hadn't seen for five years -- and boy could you not wait to catch up.
"Ready?" Lucien helps you into your coat, opening the front door of your shared high-rise and extending a hand to you. Peering at you is the same set of heterochrome irises you'd fallen for five years ago; the same set that belonged to the man you'd get to tell your friends tonight, you were set to marry.
"I'm ready."

everything about this chapter is perfectđ love how this chapter y/nâs such a best friend, i love how even though sheâs happy that he moved to manchester, sheâs still empathetic of his situation and the way sheâs so thoughtful by making efforts to help him throughout his move. how she lets him pour all his emotions, and the little gestures like letting him hide his face shows how well she understand him. y/n is such a cutie when she told him about the favorite girl phrase, and his response makes it even better. eeek, the way sheâs gonna say heâs her number one too made me giddy. i also love the little red lipstick reference, mason saying the party's like how they're younger and them playing games at gee's birthday could give a bit of throwback vibe like how far they've come their friendship has come. so happy that she finally coming to realise that sheâs in love with him, and her reaction to mason explaining to gee that sheâs his loveđ„ș their little convo at the kitchen is also prescious, how mason tell that sheâs doing good job as geeâs mother, heâs always sweet with his words. the way heâs also observant about the little things like a missing plant and proceed to give her a new one is admirable. love throughout this story, both of them always has each other to cry on. so excited to read when she finally confess her feelings.
the moment when mason lays his face next to gee melts my heart, and the candy floss head nicknameđ€đ» i love in each chapter, the bond of them got stronger and we get to see more of geeâs sweet personality. masonâs a perfect father figure for gee, how he send daily snaps of gee and notifying y/n constantly, and feeding her cakes is such a fatherly thing to do, also the snap of their matching shoes tops itđ«¶đ»
the happy little family vibe is so strong at this chapter, like the moment when theyâre at his room together and blowing the candles is soo lovely. the way y/nâs always there to include mason on moments with gee and admire their bond melts me, also how she acknowledges gee succeed to blow the candles. how theyâre feeding each others cake is also wholesome, and with him complimenting the cake too. their relationship dynamic truly gets better each chapter, and mason has consistently been a sweetheart throughout this series. so excited yet mixed feeling of this series coming to an end, thank you so much for sharing thissâșïžđ
Change Of Heart
The End - Part Five
Note - thank you for all your feedback last week, Iâm glad weâre all on team Mason but hopefully our girl has a chance to redeem herself this week đ feedback is appreciated like always and I hope you enjoy a bit of a lighter chapter đ€
Pairing - Mason Mount x Reader
Word count - 7.4k
Warnings - series contains angst & fluff
It seemed like no matter where you looked, Mason's name was in your face. His boyhood club dragging him through the mud and as much as you tried to keep in contact and let him know you were there for him, he was keeping his cards close to his chest.
Mason had been linked with a few different clubs over the last few months, but the name Manchester United was one that seemed to be sticking. You didnât want to get your hopes up that maybe soon enough heâd be closer to you both but as soon as you saw the here we go you couldnât wipe the smile from your face.
Mason had messaged you ten minutes ago asking if he could call you but so far you hadnât heard a thing. Gee was up in her room playing while you were making dinner but as soon as you felt your phone vibrating you turned everything off and answered as quickly as you could.
âHey Maseâ
âHey love, you alright?â He answered but you could tell straight away how emotional he was.
âYeah, fine. You?â You asked carefully. Hoping he knew it would be okay to talk to you and after a beat of silence you heard him sigh.
âYeah, I um⊠I donât know if youâve seenâ he asked cautiously and you knew this was your time to step up and be the friend heâd always been to you. It was as clear as day he needed someone and you were ready to be exactly what he wanted.
âIâve seen, Maseâ
âOkayâ he gulped, his voice timid and it made your tummy ache at how sad he sounded.
âHow are you feeling?â
âDunno, a bit numb to it all I thinkâ he chuckled but you could tell there was no joy in it. âI could really do with a hugâ
âNext time I see you Iâve got the biggest hug ever for you, okay? Gee too, I promiseâ you reassured him but you could feel yourself becoming emotional at how he sounded. Heâd been through a lot lately but youâd never heard him so downbeat.
âThank youâ he laughed âIâll be seeing you soon I guess. Weâre leaving the trip early to travel up and Iâve got a hotel for the week but maybe I could pop by?â
âOf course, you can stay with me the whole time Mase you know that right?â You offered but you knew it made more sense for him to stay with his family.
âItâs fine, the club are paying for the hotel and then Iâll be away on tour no doubt. And Iâll hopefully have a house sorted when I get backâ
âWell you know you can come over wheneverâ. You reiterated and after a beat of silence you could help but ask how he was again. âAre you sure youâre okay, Mase?â
âIâll be fine, sorry I would say more but weâre in the carâ he explained and you understood immediately that he didnât want to say too much in front of his family.
âNo itâs fine, listen I need to make Geeâs dinner and sort her out for bed but why donât you call me later? Like when youâre in your room and we can have a proper talkâ you offered. Not wanting him to bottle it all up and make himself sick.
âAre you sure? It might be lateâ
âIâm sure Mase. I told you Iâm always here, yeah? Even if itâs 2am Iâll wait for you, okay?â
âThank youâ he whispered and you could hear the emotion in his voice. Trying to gulp it down as best he could before he let you go so you could sort Gee out.
It had just gone midnight when Mason messaged you to say he was ready. He knew it was late and said if you were too tired it could wait until tomorrow but you were high on adrenaline and knew you wouldnât be able to sleep without speaking to him first.
âHeyâ he breathed as he answered. A little more pep in his tone which made you feel better but you knew this was going to be a hard conversation.
âHey Mase, howâs the hotel?â
âYeah itâs nice. Feels weird being in Manchester and not staying with you thoughâ
âIâll see you soon though, yeah? Iâm so sorry it didnât work out how you wanted it to Mase, theyâre complete dicks I swear to godâ you started but you could tell from his laugh on the other end of the line he was feeling better than earlier.
âY/n honestly, itâs fine. Yeah itâs sad and it sucks but Iâve had some time to think about it in the car and I think this is for the bestâ
âYeah?â
âYeah, like donât get me wrong It's gonna be weird and will take some getting used to but itâs a fresh start and is not like Iâm completely on my own. Iâve got Luke, Harry, Rashy and Jadon there. Iâm sure the other guys are nice too but itâll help having them aroundâ
âYouâve got a couple of other people up here tooâ you told him with a smile and itâs like you could feel his radiating down the line.
âOh yeah, who's that?â he asked cheekily and it was the most normal youâd heard him sound all day.
âWell thereâs me for starters. And thereâs a little girl whoâs asleep next to me who thinks the absolute world of you and I know sheâll be so excited to have you close by nowâ you told him. Usually she would have been asleep in her own bed but you thought she was coming down with something and wanted to check on her so she was currently snoozing away peacefully next to you.
âHave you told her yet?â
âNo, I thought we could tell her together? You know whenever youâve got time to come here and I can give you that hug I promised youâ
âHow about tomorrow afternoon?â He suggested and you nodded even though he couldnât see. Happy that you were seeing him sooner than you thought youâd be able to. âIâve got my medical tomorrow but I might need your help with something afterâ
âLet me guess? Is it the fact you look like a highlighter right now?â You laughed and even through the phone you could see his little embarrassed smile.
âA little bitâ he giggled. âDo you think you could help me sort it outâ
âIâll grab some dye tomorrow on my lunch break, okay?â
âAnd thatâs why youâre my best friendâ
âThatâs meâ you gulped, the phrase rattling around in your brain a little bit and making you feel uncomfortable.
You werenât sure if it was the fact you were feeling incredibly protective of him right now but the sound of best friend falling from his lips made you a little disappointed for some reason. You shook it off though and spoke to him for a little while longer until he sounded even more himself again before he had to go. You knew tomorrow would be a long day and he needed his sleep so with a quick goodnight you ended the call.
Mason came over at around 4pm the next day and you opened the door in a hurry. Excitedly pulling him into your arms and you didnât miss the way he clung to you tighter than he ever had. A quiet sob falling from his lips but you heard it loud and clear and it made your heart break.
âOh Mase, come on letâs go and sit downâ you told him. Pulling him into the living room and popping him on the sofa but he was biting his lip to keep it all in and you didnât want him to. âYou don't have to put a brave face on for me okay?â
âI knowâ he sniffed, but you knew he didnât want you to see him upset so you pulled him into your chest and let him hide his face. âFuck I canât believe itâs just over and done like thatâ
âThey donât deserve your sadness. Just think of this as a new adventure okay? Itâs not the one youâd planned but life works in mysterious waysâ you told him as you ran your fingers over his scalp
âI know, thank you loveâ he mumbled sleepily. Relaxing fully into your hold and you knew this was the first time heâd been able to be free with his emotions and not put on a front.
You both sat like that for about half an hour. Mason telling you all about his medical that took place and you were pleased to find out heâd passed. He hadnât managed to see many people at the club yet though and he was hoping he could meet some of his team mates tomorrow but before long the inevitable question came from him.
âWhereâs Gee?â
âSheâs asleepâ you told him with a laugh. âI should wake her up soon, she was just being a right grump so I put her down for a nap. I think sheâs getting a little coldâ
âAh no, poor thing. Can I wake her up?â He asked shyly and you were in no position to deny him. Thinking youâd probably do anything at this point to make him smile so you took his hand and squeezed it gently.
âGo on thenâ you smiled. Following him into her room where he carefully tried to wake her up and you had to hold on your giggles at the way he was being so careful not to make any noise. Laying his face next to hers whilst shaking her gently to try and wake her and you watched in delight as her face lit up at the sight of him.
âMaseyâ she mumbled sleepily. Wrapping her arms around his neck so he could lift her and you could see it as clear as day how much joy she gave him. Watching on from the doorway full of love at your two favourite people and from the way Mason was smiling at you, you knew he was feeling it too.
âSurprise, pickleâ he laughed. âI thought you might not recognise meâ
âSheâs been calling you candy floss head ever since I showed her the picture of you the other weekâ you laughed, walking over to the pair of them so you could brush your fingers through his grown out locks and you didnât miss the way his eyes fluttered shut at your touch.
âWell I canât be candy floss head anymore. Uncle masey is having his picture taken tomorrow so I need to sort the barnet outâ he told her as she joined you in touching Mason's hair. âYou're working tomorrow arenât you? Its okay I was just wondering if you wanted to come along with the rest of usâ
âOh I would if I could Mase, but Iâm down a few staff for holidays and if Gee is out of daycare for a day that Iâve paid for she might lose her placeâ you pouted but he just nodded understandingly.
âItâs okay, Iâll just send you updatesâ he smiled. Looking back down at Gee who was smiling up at him happily. âCome on then, letâs sort this outâ
You made him sit on the edge of the bath with the towel around his shoulders as you applied the dye. Gee watching on as you coated his hair and it was good to see sheâd perked up a little bit with Mason around. Singing him the new song sheâd learnt that day whilst trying to teach him the actions but he couldnât quite get it and she would laugh hysterically each time he messed up.
Once it was all washed out and he was back to being your Mason, you made a start on dinner so you could all sit together and once it was over you could see Mason was itching to tell Gee his news.
âHey Gee, you know how much you love having uncle Masey around?â You started, watching her little head nod up and down enthusiastically. âWell what if I told you we might be able to see him a lot more often now?â You told her but the reality suddenly hit that you didnât know for sure if heâd be able to see you guys anymore than he did. He just said he was moving closer and that was all. âWell I hope we will at leastâ
âOf course you will, Iâll be bugging you everyday if I canâ he told you sincerely but you just giggled at him before he turned to Gee with a smile. âUncle Masey is getting a new house not too far from here so Iâll be able to see you all the time. And we can have sleepovers and all sorts. Maybe I can come and get you from daycare sometimes? What do you think?â
She couldnât speak much, her mouth full of pasta as Mason was still feeding her but from the way she clapped her hands and tried to laugh excitedly you could tell she was over the moon at the idea.
âYou donât have to do that, Maseâ
âI want to though. You help me out all the time and itâs no biggie if it gives you a bit of a break. Youâve been on your own up here but youâve got help nowâ he told you sincerely and you felt your chest warm at how kind he was being. âPlus you guys know all the good places up here now. You need to teach me the waysâ he joked but you couldnât wait to take him to all your favourite places properly.
Mason couldnât stay too much longer, claiming he needed his beauty sleep so he didnât look rough in his pictures so you let him go with the promise that heâd call you as soon as he could the next day.
You texted him that morning but didn't expect to hear from him until much later that evening though as you knew heâd had a long day but you just stepped through the door, your phone began to ring.
âHey, Mase. How did it go?â You asked excitedly as soon as you answered the phone and you heard his little giggle straight away.
âYeah really good thanks, love. Weâre just on the way back to the hotel nowâ he told you and you could tell by his voice how much happier he seemed than yesterday. âDo you think youâd wanna join us for dinner tonight? Weâre just eating there but I know Summer would love to see Gee and my mums asking after youâ
âIf it gets me out of cooking then Iâm all for it. Just let me know when and where and Iâll be thereâ you told him and within the next half an hour you were on your way. Lewis meeting you out the front so he could take you to everyone and Gee was quick to run to Summer who gave her a big hug.
Seeing Mason's parents made you realise how much you missed your own. You saw them every so often when you made the trip home or they came to visit but being surrounded by so much love made you feel a little homesick. Geeâs birthday was coming up soon though and you knew youâd be seeing them soon which cheered you up slightly.
You sat and listened as they told you all about their day. Mason chiming in when he could but he was sitting in between Gee and Summer so he had his hands full but every so often heâd send you a warm smile that made your heart melt.
âGee, you wanna come up and see my room?â He asked her as you were finishing up your dessert and you could see her nodding up at him. âIâve got a little something for you up there too if youâre goodâ
âWhat have you done? You laughed but he just looked at you with his usual cheeky smile and you couldnât figure out what he was up to.
âMe? Nothingâ he winked, shrugging his shoulders before leaning over the back of Geeâs chair so he could talk to you a little more privately. âWhat about you anyway, have you been good?â
âIâm always goodâ you chuckled. The question suddenly making your neck and cheeks feel hot and you didnât miss the way his eyes flashed to your lips before he chuckled light heartedly.
âI know you are, thatâs why Iâve got something for you tooâ he told you with a wink and you had to look down into your lap so no one could see how much you were blushing at his silly comment.
You bid his family farewell before he took you up to his room. Mason holding Geeâs hand as they walked in front of you down the corridor and your heart melted at the way she kept looking back and smiling at you like she was the happiest girl in the world to be with him.
Mason had that effect on people though.
Once in Mason's huge room, he sat Gee on his lap as you sat next to them as he did his best to explain to her that he was part of a new team now so he had a new kit before producing a little shirt for her. His name and new number proudly sitting on the back and after youâd helped her put it on over her dress she was straight over to the mirror to admire herself in it.
âNumber seven, yeah? Mason thatâs hugeâ you told him. Your voice emotional and you finally saw it in the flesh but he grabbed your hand and squeezed it gently.
âI knowâ he chuckled. âBig responsibility but Iâm up for it. Theyâve been really good to me, you know? I wanna pay it back to themâ
âCome hereâ you whispered. Opening your arms and pulling him into a hug that he gladly accepted and you couldnât get over how much you needed him close right now. The feel and smell of him brought you comfort more than anything and it was like you needed the hug just as much as he did. Knowing youâd been worrying about him for weeks but now you knew things would finally be okay made your shoulders relax.
âI got you one tooâ he mumbled. The words almost getting lost in your neck but you pulled away with a quizzical look before he was reaching over to hand you another new shirt. âI know it might be weird, youâve always supported me at Chelsea so I get if you donât wanna wear it-â
âHey, Iâm a you fan, Mase. Iâll support you in whatever way you needâ you smiled. âPlus I think I prefer the red anyway, it matches my lipstick. The blue always clashedâ
âI mean I think you look good in whatever, but Iâm glad you agreeâ he shrugged and you felt heat rising up your neck at his compliment.
Mason stayed in the hotel for the next few weeks until he went on tour but you knew he wasnât happy there. People had figured out where he was and would follow him home from training so when he got back from America and he told you his house wouldnât be ready for another week or so, you practically forced him to move in with you.
It was nice having someone to come home to, someone to cook for who wasnât almost two years old and someone you could have an adult conversation with.
Most of the time anyway.
Gee loved having him there too by all accounts, but ever her perceptive self she knew he was about to leave soon and her mood on his last full day with you took a plumet. She couldnât understand why he wasnât staying with you forever and she spent most of the day in a mood on the sofa refusing to eat. The only time she came out of her shell a bit was when Mason laid down next to her and put his head in her lap and she couldnât resist him. Giggling as she tried to hug his head and kiss it sweetly and the whole interaction made you feel softer than ever for them both.
âYou donât need to be upset about me going, Gee. You know weâll still see each other all the time. Even more so than we used to, okay? Iâll only be down the roadâ he assured her. âI canât stay away from my favourite girl for too long so Iâll be back all the timeâ he explained and you felt your heart thudding in your chest during their little conversation.
Mason had always been good with kids, but to see him like this with your baby was something completely different and as much as Gee was moody that he was going, you couldnât exactly blame her as you were feeling the same.
âYouâre so good with herâ you smiled, watching him blush slightly at your compliment as he came into the kitchen a few moments later. âThough I am a bit mad at youâ you huffed playfully but he took your words seriously. His face dropping as he looked at you carefully and you could see the confusion in his big brown eyes.
âWhat did I do?â
âI thought I was your favouriteâ you pouted. âI know sheâs just a baby but Iâve known you longerâ you teased. Trying your hardest to look upset but he saw right through it. Giggling as he grabbed your waist and when he pulled you into a hug you relaxed as he held you.
âYou know youâll always be my number one girlâ he told you softly. The words getting lost in your hair but that didnât mean they lost their effect. Your skin breaking out in goosebumps as you tried to stop the giant smile at the thought of still being his favourite person but before you could tell him he was your number one too, he carried on speaking. âBut since you decided to clone yourself, unfortunately youâre gonna have to share meâ
You didnât know what it was, but the thought of sharing Mason with anyone but Gee made you feel uncomfortable. Your smile dropping instantly as you instinctively held him closer but he squeezed you back just as tight before dropping a kiss on your head and pulling away.
Mason was yours, no one elseâs
You remember thinking years ago that youâd have to put up with the person chose as his his own one day, just like Mason had done for you with Jack but now the prospect filled you with dread.
You didnât want to see him with anyone else. The thought of him touching anyone else, kissing someone elseïżœïżœ you hated the idea of it to the point it made your skin feel hot and clammy.
You knew you were being selfish, Mason wasnât yours and youâd told him you didnât see him in a romantic way but the thought suddenly hit you that if no one else could have him then what did that mean?
Did that mean you had to have him?
Youâd never given being with him much thought, yes you knew he still harboured some feelings for you, at least heâd admitted as much around a year ago now but Mason had always been your best friend and you never really had time to sit and think about how your relationship had grown.
But now?
He was your safe place. Your light in the dark when things were going wrong and you felt hopeless. The boy that made you laugh when you needed it and held you when you needed that too.
The boy whoâd taken on your plus one like she was his own and did everything he could in his power to keep the both of you happy and safe.
He made you feel like a family
You loved Mason. Loved him more than you realised or could possibly explain to anyone else as it only made sense to you but the possibility of now being in love with him was smacking you in the face.
He was over by the stove and you turned to steal a glance of him. His brows pinched and lips pouty as he stirred the pot youâd abandoned and you were filled with that same warm feeling. Like he was human sunshine and all you wanted was to bask in his glow but clearly youâd gotten yourself wrapped up in your feelings a little too much until the sound of his voice was snapping you out of your trance.
âHave I got something on my face?â He asked, wiping his cheek softly but you just smiled shyly at him.
âOh, n-no youâre goodâ
âStop looking at me like thatâ he laughed, wrapping his arms around your shoulders but you were thankful that you could hide your face and the blush that had taken over your cheeks. âWhen Geeâs gone to bed, do you fancy watching a movie? Just usâ
âYes pleaseâ you whispered. Excited about the prospect of some alone time with him and with a quick kiss to your head he walked back over to the stove.
You had a few veggies left to chop so you asked him to keep on stirring the sauce whilst you chatted lightly and clearly he got a bit too confident as he went a bit too quickly and slopped some sauce on the side which he quickly cleaned with the nearest cloth.
âOh Maseâ you huffed. âThat's a clean tea towelâ
âSorry loveâ he gulped, looking more guilty than he should but you just took it from him with a smile.
âItâs fine, between you a Jack Iâve gotten used to it over the years. Must be a bloody boy's thing to stain everythingâ you told him as you chucked it by the washing machine. When you looked back at him though he was facing away from you however his neck was red and you could see his shoulders were tense. âMase? You alright?â
âYeah fine, Iâm gonna go set the tableâ he told you and without another look he was gone.
In typical Mason fashion he fell asleep watching your movie that night so you coaxed him onto your chest so he could get comfortable but you also used it as a bit of an excuse just to look at him for a bit. His adorable cheek squished as he laid there with his lips slightly open and you had to stop yourself from leaning down and kissing him. Shaking yourself out of your trance as a wave of confusion rolled over you and you sat there blankly looking at the screen.
This new found need to comfort him and love on him was overwhelming but you hadnât vocalised anything yet and you knew you needed a big gossip session with Ell before you took any next steps. The kissing part was new though and you couldnât tell if you were thrilled or horrified by it.
You couldn't stop thinking about him. Flicking through all the pictures heâd sent your way lately when you were in bed every night but the more you thought about being with him and everything it would entail, the more you realised it might not work.
You didnât even know if he still felt the same after all these years. Yes youâd overheard him talking to Gee over a year ago but that was then and this was now. It has been years and youâd never shown him any inkling of wanting anything more, at least you didnât think you had, and you were pretty sure heâd told her that he was learning to move on. He must have done that by now surely?
You were snapped out of your thoughts soon enough as you heard your front door being opened. It was a Wednesday so that meant Mason was picking Gee up from daycare and they were back for their dinner.
âHello love!â Gee called excitedly as soon as she saw you. Storming over as quickly as her little legs would carry her and you chuckled at Mason's bemused face as you picked her up for a cuddle.
âLove? Have I missed something?â He asked but little did he know he was at fault for it.
âSheâs been calling me that for the last few days. I think sheâs picked it up from youâ you told him. Kissing her cheek softly as you placed her on the counter so you could carry cooking.
âOh Geeâ he laughed standing in front of her and she sent him a giddy smile as he trapped her in between his arms that were leaning on the side. âThat's mummy, not loveâ he explained but you werenât sure she was even listening properly. âSheâs my love, but your mummyâ
My love.
You hoped he didnât hear the little gasp that fell from your lips at his words or the way you almost dropped your spoon into the sauce you were stirring but thankfully when you finally looked up Mason was still talking away with Gee and seemed none the wiser.
âDo you think you could help me out for Geeâs party?â You asked, trying to change the subject so you didnât fixate on what had just been said and even though he was playing it cool, you could tell he was happy youâd asked him.
âOf course, what do you need me to do?â
âWell I was hoping you could take her out for the morning? Ell said sheâd come over and help me decorate and then you could bring her over when itâs all done? Like for the big surprise?â
âOh thank god, I thought you wanted me to blow balloons up and as much as I love her I donât think Iâve got the lungs for itâ he chuckled. âOh wait, I thought your parents were coming up, do you not want them to have her?â
âNo that's a surprise tooâ you nodded. âIf she knows theyâre here then sheâll be suspicious. I want her to see everyone all togetherâ
âOkay, yeahâ he smiled, nodding enthusiastically before turning back to Gee so he could plan their day together.
When the morning of the party came Mason was over early to get Gee and once she was all packed up they were off and out. Mason promising heâd message you with updates as soon as he could but you werenât expecting one half an hour later no matter how cute it was.
You and Ell were the dream team. Decorating your house in record time with giant animal balloons and bunting that looked like giant leaves. You were going for a jungle theme as youâd managed to pass down your love of the outdoors to her, and the most important decoration was the giant giraffe balloon that you had tied to the back of her chair.
Gem the giraffe was Geeâs favourite toy. Her little comfort animal sheâd had from the day she was born and she was rarely seen without it much to Mason's delight. Telling you all the time it was a good job heâd found it in the gift shop and it was the best ÂŁ15 heâd ever spent but clearly today he was out to spend even more.
That's how most of the morning went. You and Ell working away as Mason sent you lots of updates and you wondered if it was because he was feeling nervous about his first time looking after her properly. He had her once a week all on his own but this was for a lot longer and you could tell he was worried about doing something wrong.
Soon enough guests were arriving. Noah and Tommy were the first to arrive as theyâd been to pick up the cake and after your parents arrived you couldnât contain your emotions. It had only been two months since youâd seen them but you missed them terribly being so far away and you always felt whole when they were up here with you.
You didnât invite too many people, just a few of Geeâs little friends from daycare with their parents and Mason asked if Luke and his kids could pop by so you were excited to have them there. Luke had always been a sweetheart to you and you were excited to meet Anouska and talk to her about the little one she was currently growing.
Youâd packed Gee a dress in her bag and you asked Mason to put her in just before they got back. Hoping that the pair of them could avoid staining it if she didnât have it on all day and as you watched them walk up the drive hand in hand, you couldnât contain your laugh as heâd kept on her new trainers with it.
She looked adorable though and when Mason walked her into the living room her face was a picture. Not knowing where to look as there were so many of her favourite people in one room shouted surprise but she was straight to you so she could show you her new shoes.
âVery nice, babyâ you giggled. Kissing her cheek and wrapping her up in a big hug before everyone else came over to say hello and hand her a present. You could have cried from the soft little fank yews she gave everyone and the big smile she kept sending your way. Knowing she wasnât 100% sure what was going on but she was happy nonetheless.
Gee wasnât exactly shy, but you could see how much she loved being the centre of attention. Eventually going to join her little friends from daycare along with Lukeâs kids so you could start the party games and before you could even think Mason was by your side with the gift youâd wrapped for pass the parcel. His phone already synced to your speaker and you could see Luke laughing at the way he seemed so into everything out of the corner of your eye.
âGo sit next to her, Iâll do this bitâ he smiled and you quickly kissed his cheek before joining her. Only noticing around halfway through that he had a massive kiss mark on his cheek from your red lipstick but when Lewis turned up he was quick to wipe it off whilst teasing him.
Throughout the afternoon he was the perfect host. Constantly clearing up any mess he saw and making sure all the snack bowls were full. Doing the rounds and making sure both him and Gee got to speak to everyone and you almost lost it when you walked into the kitchen to find him wearing your favourite pink washing up gloves. He was so in the zone as he scrubbed away he didnât see you looking at him until you approached and you knew his cheeks were burning.
âMason? What are you doing?â You giggled but he just looked at you shyly before going back to washing up.
âJust getting some of this done so thereâs not loads to do laterâ
âI didnât invite you here to wash upâ you laughed. âCome on, I know you love a bit of pin the tail on the elephantâ
âYouâre not wrongâ he laughed, placing the final plate into the drying rack and peeling your gloves off. âCome on letâs 1v1, I bet Iâll beat youâ
âYou haven't changed, have you?â
âNever have, never wellâ he told you proudly as he swung an arm around your shoulders and you felt your love for him consume you.
âGoodâ you whispered, the pair of you seemingly getting lost in each other's eyes a bit but Mason ruined the moment by flicking your nose playfully before roughing your hair up.
âI really like the theme youâve gone withâ he told you as you walked back to join the rest of the party. âReminds me of the parties we had as kidsâ
âI just wanted her to have good memories like we did growing upâ you told him and you hoped she would. She seemed happy enough running around with all her friends whilst your mum fed her snacks every so often and as you looked around the room you knew you were right where you both needed to be.
âWell with you as her mummy I know she willâ Mason told you. Snapping you out of your thoughts quickly but your eyes welling up immediately at his words. âIâm serious y/n. Sheâs the sweetest, funniest little girl and you should be so proud of yourself. Youâre doing such a good job I promiseâ
âOh Maseâ you blubbed. Not realising how much you needed to hear that from someone and you quickly covered your face with your hands so he couldnât see you cry.
âWell that wasnât meant to happenâ Mason laughed. Pulling you into his body so he could hold you tightly to chest as he rubbed your back.
âSorry, it just means a lot you knowâ you told him and he nodded. âIn the interest of saying thank you, then I need to tell you the same. I didnât realise how much I needed someone until you got here and I appreciate everything you do for the both of us. I love you so much, Mase. You know that, right?â
âAnd I love you just as muchâ he told you softly. Wondering if he still meant it in the way he used to but his eyes were blurry from his tears and you couldnât tell.
Once the pair of you were presentable again you re joined the party. Mason beating you at pin the tail on the elephant which he was more than happy about and you knew when it came down to just the pair of you for musical chairs he let you win. You still took it though and lauded it over him for the next hour until you needed his help. Taking his wrist and pulling him into the kitchen where he was looking at you with a surprised smile.
âIâm gonna do the cake nowâ you told him. âWould you grab Gee and sit with her at the table so I can bring it over?â
âYeah? You sureâ he asked with a coy smile. This felt like a big deal to him, like he was the special person who got to share this moment with her but you knew there was no one else you wanted sat with her. âDo you not want to sit with her? Or your parents?â
âNo I want you to do itâ you nodded. âIâll only be a few minutes so be quickâ you told him and he was off before you could say anything else.
Once the candles were lit, you quickly chanced a look around the corner to make sure everyone was ready but the sight in front of you made your heart flutter. Mason sat to the table with Gee in his lap but all the other kids were around him as they listened to him telling them all they had to sing really loud so the whole street could hear them and they were nodding excitedly as they got themselves ready.
You gave a quick nod to your mum. Letting her know it was okay to turn the light off before you came in with the cake. The whole room singing to your baby as she clapped along with pure joy written all over her face but when you caught eyes with Mason you were smiling even wider. Popping the cake down in front of her as Mason was trying to teach her how to blow the candles out but she didnât quite have the lungs for it. Both you and Mason helping her out in the end but you made out it was her and she was pretty proud of herself.
You cut up the cake so there was enough to go around and by the time everyone had a bit Gee happily munching away at hers so you joined her at the table with Mason.
âMumma, you wanna come sit with Gee?â Mason asked but there was no way you were interrupting the perfect scene in front of you.
âNo itâs okay, you carry onâ you smiled enjoying watching him feed her little spoonfuls of cake but as the pair of you began to chat a little more he slowed down and she began to huff. His multitasking skills clearly failing him at this moment and you covered your mouth as you smiled at them.
âQuick Masey, moreâ she told him. Tapping his wrist gently to get him to speed up but he just laughed and rested his head on top of hers.
âSorry babyâ he chucked. Rolling his eyes at you at her sassiness but he sped up. Smiling as she hummed in satisfaction and rubbed her tummy like it was the best thing sheâd ever eaten but you could tell Mason was missing out so you loaded up a fork and held it up to him. His cheeks flaming as he caught onto what you were offering him but he gladly accepted. Eyes boring into yours as he wrapped his lips around your fork and the moment was more intense and intimate that you could have imagined.
âI can see why you want me to be quick now, Gee. That's some good cake, huh?â He asked her, looking away as you coughed awkwardly and began to tidy around you as not to arouse suspicion as you knew you were blushing a little bit. You could see his eyes following you as he smiled softly though and the next time you looked his way you shared a soft giggle.
It was around an hour later when the last guests started to leave. Only Mason, Lewis and your parents remaining as you tidied up the last few plates but Gee was eager to play with her presents so you all sat In the living room
âHey, Gee? You wanna come get the surprise with me?â Mason asked quietly as he sat with her on the floor. She was currently dressed in the vet dressing up set one of her little friends had gotten her as she gave her Gem a check up but with an excited giggle, Mason led her to the back room where she emerged moments later with a bag almost as big as her.
âWhatâs this?â You laughed. Taking it from her before she fell but as soon as you spotted the red box you knew what was going on.
âFank you for birfday mummaâ she laughed, clapping her hands as you took the box out of the bag.
âThatâs okay babyâ you beamed. Kissing her cheek as she pulled you in for a hug but soon enough she sat next to you in anticipation. Your eyes flying up to Masons immediately who sent you a quick wink and you dived back in to pull out the green Nikes that matched Geeâs and Masons. âReally Mase?â You laughed but he just shrugged.
âWhat? Canât have you feeling left out can weâ he joked. âAre they okay?â
âTheyâre perfect, thank youâ
âThats okayâ he beamed. âI got you a little something else actually, come with me?â he asked as he held his hand out to help pull you up and you practically ignored everyone else as you followed him into your kitchen.
You spotted it straight away. Sitting in your windowsill proudly in a new pot and your heart was hammering in your ears at the sight of it.
âIs that an orchid?â
âYeah, I donât know what happened to yours but I saw it was missing the other day so I replaced itâ he told you proudly and you felt your eyes sting.
âOh Maseâ you pouted. âI accidentally killed the other oneâ
âOhâ he laughed. Wrapping an arm around you so he could pull you flush against him and once he had you hid yourself on his shoulder. Feeling his lips on to crown of your head as he peppered small kisses there and the action made you hold him even tighter. âConsider this a second chance thenâ
Thats all you were asking for, all you needed from him.
A second chance.
To tell him how you really felt now. That he was your one and that you were sorry you never saw it sooner and if he let you, youâd make him so so happy.
You were just praying that moment would come for you soon.

love in the small and simple and daily things is always so special :((( genuinely can we get some vitamin hwa đ«¶đ»
thank you so much for reading lovely <33
03:10 AM
(masterlist)
đpairing:Â bf!seonghwa x gn!reader đgenre: timestamp, comfort, healing, fluff đsummary: 3am, a time for overthinking. is love louder than your thoughts? đwordcount: 1k đwarnings/tags: unedited, introspection, lack of confidence, two people in love, kissing, cute sleepy seonghwa, writer is rusty đtaglist: at the bottom. would love to add you if interested <3 đa/n: oh how i wish to write again, to pour words onto pages and let my heart bleed into the ink. this timestamp is mildly inspired by maro's 'we've been loving in silence'. sorry for rustiness, and any love is so appreciated...
Everyone is deserving of love. Love in all its shapes and colours. A love that looks like a tender conversation in a tiny kitchen, a love that looks like unstoppable laughter under the starry night sky, a love that looks like unwavering dedication and adoration even when it seems impossible. Every person is worthy of a love that makes their heart feel full while being fully aware of the world and all its complexities, shadows and anguish. A love that gives one hope.
Sometimes, this complicated feeling looks like speeding down the city streets as a salvation in the time of trouble. It could even look like a distraught, disjointed embrace accompanied by a cacophony of sobs and stuttered breaths. Love can look like feeling anotherâs pain, living through it as if it is oneâs own. Love can mean heartbreak, over and over again until there is seemingly nothing left, and yet still the ground up powder of affection would be offered as a sacrifice to this mystery.
What is love to you?
You wonder, particularly on nights like this, when a blanket of calm covers the metropolis in which you found yourself, not too dissimilar to a shell being washed up on the shore to encounter a glorious, blazing sun. A twinkling magic on the other side of the glass greets you, and you rest a finger on the coolness, tracing distant shapes of building after building, only to haphazardly wipe it down with the edge of your sleeve. How did you end up in a place where you thought you would never be, feeling what you had sworn you would be unable to feel?Â
A gentle melancholy aches in your chest, etching the curves and edges of your ribcage, an incessant little bird, bubbling up that old sense of unease. What is this that you are living in? If you do not know, will it go away? The loud mind, an old friend and enemy, one which had accompanied you through all stages of your life, to find itself equally as bewildered as your heart, but a lot more terrified. Caught between bliss and a painful awareness of the unknown, you walk a tightrope blindfolded.
At least until a hand reaches out for you, warm, reassuring, and guides you across to an oasis. A beating heart, a familiar breath, palm pressed against your upper arm take you out of your spiralling musings, and beckon you to look in the direction of a soft, barely audible whisper of âmy loveâ.Â
You turn to meet Seonghwaâs eyes, endless pools of glistening brown sugar, enough to both extinguish and ignite, turn dark to light and wrong to right. A timeless poetry is in his face, the rhythm of his features casting a spell over you as you glance over them. These sleepy eyes, stunning nose and cheeks that bear a pinkish hue, plush lips caught in a miniscule pout, dishevelled hair that you know your boyfriend tried to tame, to no avail. You turn your body to meet him fully, and fall into his arms. They envelop you tightly, and you inhale the ghostly remnants of his cologne, a tantalising note of his, and your favourite shampoo, all intricately blended with fabric softener and cotton - put simply, you are home.
âWhy arenât you sleeping, hm?â he asks, voice still a little raspy. It must have been only minutes since he woke up to find you.
âIâm sorry⊠Did I wake you?â
âMm⊠no. Your absence woke me up,â you could cry, not that you would say it, or rather have to say it. Seonghwa knows how his words affect you anyways, judging by the swift squeeze of his arms before he returns to slowly rocking side to side.Â
âI just had a lot of thoughts. Wanted to get rid of them somehow.â
âWant to talk about them?âÂ
You are not sure if you would be able to summon enough courage to talk about what is plaguing you, at least now, in the semi-darkness of yours and his apartment, you feel far too fragile to look inside of the boxes you keep shuffling. Unbeknownst to yourself, you begin to bite your lower lip, trying to pick the right words. Any attempt to formulate whatever excuse you have been seeking inevitably fails as Seonghwaâs lips find yours, erasing your habit, erasing your worry. Caught off-guard, a quiet gasp escapes you, only to be rewarded by an airy chuckle.
âSo⊠not talking, then?â you press your face into the crook of his neck, sensing heat rising on your cheeks.Â
âYou surprised me, is allâŠâ you trail off, slowly guiding yourself upwards, but still being unable to meet Seonghwaâs gaze.
âIâll happily kiss all your worries away, if thatâs what it takes,â his tone is humorous, and the phrase is light-hearted. His glances into your eyes, at your lips, at the strands of hair that you know he will adjust for you like he usually does, holding promise and commitment. If you so wish, he will. If you so want, he will. If you so will, he most definitely will.Â
Your hands grip onto his sleeping shirt as you mumble a thanks, inching closer until your timid smile melts into his. A pleasantly languid rhythm, a moonlit paradise, drawing a masterpiece with your bodies until you are struggling to breathe. An adorable exchange of sweet nothings as you fill your lungs with air, no distinction of space nor time while you are in this trouble-less duet. A small peck on Seonghwaâs lips prompts him to pull you in again, eyes fluttering shut as he floats, flies, soars in love with you. You swear you can see the stars while the taste of his cherry lip balm lingers.
As you follow him back to bed, sinking into the sheets with a sigh, inklings of somnolence settle over your slow-moving intertwined bodies. His breath turns steady, a comforting rise and fall against your back. Seonghwaâs hand is over yours, thumb making random patterns on your skin.
âDream of me,â he says against your shoulder, grinning when he hears your sharp exhale.
This, this is love to you.

âThat is not going to fit!â
He scoffs, already annoyed. âYes, it is! Just move over a little.â
âA little? Iâm already stretched the fuck out! What more do you want from me?â
âSeohyun, I swear to fucking God â â
She yelps, most likely cramping. âJust pull it out, you dumbass â â
âWhat the hell is going on in here?â
You and Chan stop dead in your tracks, confused at the scene currently playing out in front of your very eyes. You were gone downstairs for less than ten minutes to get the rest of your stuff, with you and Chan carrying a box each that held the essentials to ensure this move went smoothly. And in that time frame, your two other best friends have already managed to be at each otherâs throats.
The front door of your apartment was wide open, with dumb and dumber currently looking like two deers caught in headlights on opposite sides, separated by an old armchair whose springs had become a death trap over the years. Last year, when you held parties here, someone was always left standing â it was either the cursed chair or the floor, with most guests picking the latter once they were drunk enough.
âUh, hi?â Jisung greets, forcing a smile onto boyish features that havenât changed much since you met almost seven years ago, in high school.
Bewiled, you set the box down by Chanâs feet and approach. âAre you guys, okay? What happened?â
Whistling, Jisung tries to pretend he has everything under control. He doesnât, he never does, thatâs just the type of guy he was. âDuh, weâre fantastic! Everything is under control, donât even â â
Called it.
âFor the love of god, just shut up and let them help us already!â Seohyun barks from the other side, prompting you to peek in to see her straighten her posture, rubbing her wrists in obvious discomfort. With a sigh and a glare from Jisung who steps back to allow Chan to take his place, she explains. âWe were trying to get this chair out to make room for the new one.â
Chuckling, Chan inspects the door frame while you pass Seohyun one of the boxes right over the ugly, red chair thatâs seen better days. âAnd it got stuck?â
âYes, because Jisung didnât want to listen â â
âOr maybe because you started pushing when I wasnât ready, like an idiot.â He counters instantly, never one to back out from a fight instigated by Seohyun. Not to be fooled, these two were as close as can be, the bickering reflective of their special bond.
You and Chan share a look as they start again, amusement clear in gentle, doe eyes that have comforted you numerous times over the years. Meeting back in the summer before high school, you and Chan have been attached at the hip ever since, clicking as pre-teens and growing up together, maturing down the same path thatâs led you to the same university, and even the same major you also shared with Jisung. Music production has always been a passion of yours, so getting to fulfil that dream with your absolute best friend by your side was a blessing you couldnât be more thankful for.
âAlright.â Chan stops their bickering, one hand landing on Jisungâs shoulder to get his attention. âStand on it.â
âPardon?â Jisung blinks at him, as confused as you and Seohyun were, not sure he heard Chan right.
Smiling, Chan squeezes his shoulder. âSo, you can step on the backrest and make it fall over. It will be easier to move afterwards.â
âYou think so?â He asks, biting down on his bottom lip, not confident in the slightest.
Your best friend nods, giving his bottom an encouraging pat. âPositively. Now go on, I donât want to spend my whole day in this hallway.â
Seohyun scrambles back, unwilling to get caught in between Jisung and the chair, giving him enough room to do what he must to free her exit.
Watching the whole scene unfold has you smiling from ear to ear, struggling to keep your laughter at bay once Jisung realizes the task isnât as dangerous as he expected. Itâs anticlimactic, more than anything, as he gets on top of the chair to step on the backrest, going down slowly without even losing his balance.
He blinks, barely realizing itâs over before making eye contact with Seohyun who bursts out laughing like sheâs been holding it in since the beginning. The three of you join in quickly after, your delight bouncing off the hallway walls and lifting the spirits tremendously.
After all, nobody in existence was ever excited for summer to end and classes to start again, with a new, even more demanding schedule than last year. You were in your third year now and things were bound to get difficult the closer you got to graduating.
This silly moment was exactly what you needed to start the new year right, sure it would become a core memory later down the line when youâd all be working adults, with even more responsibilities and nonexistent free time. The sight of Chan dragging the armchair out, without any difficulty whatsoever as Jisung and Seohyunâs jaws hit the floor, incredulous he didnât struggle like they did, was sure to bring a smile to your face for years to come.
When your only access to the apartment was finally free, the four of you gathered inside with the remaining boxes.
âYou werenât kidding, you do have all of your stuff here.â Seohyun hums, scanning her surroundings, and her new home. The apartment was yours. You moved in just last year and youâve lived by yourself until now, when you welcomed her with open arms and a little too much excitement.
âYeah.â You nod, already moving around to put the scattered things back in their rightful places. âSorry about the mess. I didnât bother cleaning up before leaving.â
The living room was fine â your bedroom was the one that suffered the most, already dreading the thought of having to dig through all the mess to find most of your things.
The apartment was a gift from your parents, after successfully finishing your first year of university living in a dorm. Sure, having your own space was great, but youâd never trade that first year for anything in the world. Thatâs where you meet Seohyun after all, growing closer and closer with every sleepless night you spent together giggling and talking about everything under the sun, not feeling the hours tick by until one of your alarms would ring, signalling the start of a new day.
It was big, too spacious for only one person to live in, with two bedrooms and a bathroom straight out of an interior design magazine. Even though Seohyun didnât move in until now, you were never truly alone with Jisung and Chris living right next door. Someone was always keeping you company, which you were thankful for, in more ways than one.
Already moving about like they owned the place, Chris and Jisung were helping you tidy up, with the latter moving to check for anything rotten in the kitchen. With four pairs of hands on deck, it didnât take more than fifteen minutes for everything to be back to normal, leaving you to take care of the dusting.
âAlright.â Chan stands, carrying two trash bags. âJi, letâs go get the armchair.â
Jisung follows before Seohyun calls after them. âRight, is it in your car?â
âI thought it was in yours?â He turns around, stopping in the doorway while Chan is already busy calling the elevator, further away.
You see her brows furrow, setting the duster down before grabbing her car keys. âNope.â
The ding of the elevator gets your attention, and they share a look before hurrying after Chan, in search of said armchair, the door closing behind them with a quiet thud. You lived high up, on the 10th floor â nobody was ever willing to take the stairs and waste that much time.
And so, in the blink of an eye, you are left alone in the apartment that held so many of your memories, beautiful moments you wouldnât trade even in exchange for forgetting the sad ones.
You feel a little lost, staring around like you couldnât recognize your own home, shoulders slumping with a deep sigh. Your gaze moves towards your closed bedroom door, feet following before your hand twists the doorknob and youâre engulfed in sunlight, blinking rapidly to adjust to the change in lighting.
Inside, the sight that greets you seems frozen in time, transporting you back in June to the last moments spent in this room, where you were running around to pack in a hurry. You donât dare move, just taking it all in as memories flood your mind and make your heart ache in your chest, what still remains of it, anyway.
All of your stuff thrown around haphazardly painted a picture you didnât enjoy, yet couldnât look away from either. Your bed remained unmade, with piles of clothing, bags and random objects occupying all the space. Framed photographs were thrown everywhere around the room, just so they would stop glaring at you from their place on your nightstand, face down and most likely damaged by the broken glass. The vase on your dresser, which used to stand tall with beautiful, healthy flowers seemed to have lost its color, struggling to fulfil its purpose because of the dried, mouldy peonies you didnât bother throwing out before leaving.
But whatâs even worse than the mess is what tipped you over the edge back then, falling to your knees on the fluffy, white carpet as you sobbed uncontrollably â the things he left behind were still here, in the exact same spots, in pristine condition. Your room looked like it barely survived the hurricane that shared your name, yet his red cap was still resting quietly next to the flowers he got you. One of his sketchbooks, still opened on that drawing he never got to finish as he got too busy with school, was on the other nightstand, on his side of the bed. A pair of his dancing shoes were by the door, right next to your comfy slippers. They have been there for so long, that you couldnât enter your room without tripping over them and be reminded of his presence every single time. Hell, you bet if you checked right now, his toothbrush will still be next to yours in the cute holder you bought together, his razor not far away.
There were traces of him everywhere you looked in this apartment, clothes and necessities he left behind on his many visits. Like his football jersey, lucky number 20, youâve worn more times than him, hung in your open closet among empty hangers that barely held on.
It wasnât fair, how you seemed to crumble along with everything around you while he, and his stupid things, remained intact. The world shattered beneath your feet, freefalling to your doom of self-doubts and regrets while he continued with his life like nothing even happened. Like you never happened; like you werenât such a fundamental part in his life in the exact same way he was in yours.
Your ex boyfriend moved on in the blink of an eye, while you were still here, crying at the sight of a stupid toothbrush.
This will never be fair. Why did you always seem to draw the short end of the stick?
New beginnings were usually your favorite. Starting another book, turning a new leaf and switching up your wardrobe for a change, getting the inspiration for another song â these were all activities that brought you joy. Now, returning to campus at the end of summer vacation to begin another school year? For the first time since starting university two years ago, felt like an impossible task, one you werenât ready for in the slightest. Because how could you ever be ready to start your junior year without him?
How could you possibly embark on a new journey without him holding your hand and guiding you through it all, navigating around every hardship with ease like he was the most experienced sailor in existence?
You had no answers, only questions. Too many that were also too loud, bouncing off of the sturdy walls of your mind that were threatening to crumble with every thud, remaining standing only thanks to the unbearable headaches that reminded you to take a break from all the overthinking.
Your mind went quiet as another voice made its presence known, bringing you back to the world outside your bedroom while shooing the dark cloud above your head out the window with ease.
âOh my god, we lost the goddamn chair!â
A wet laugh escaped your lips, more tears rolling down your cheeks as you desperately tried to wipe them all before joining your friends in the living room. You werenât stupid â they were worried. Thatâs why Seohyun was moving in, in the first place. To keep an eye on you at all times, when the other two couldnât be there and provide the much needed support you craved so badly.
Not like they knew you were aware of their little plan, having them figured out from the moment they showed up at Chanâs doorstep in Australia, last month. Theyâve been tiptoeing around you since then, not knowing what emotional state you were in or whatâs changed or hasnât in the two months you spent apart. Sure, Chris might have filled them in, but they were still afraid. Afraid they were going to mess up somehow and have you slipping through their fingers and shatter at any moment, like you were nothing more than a fragile package, all progress lost the second something that reminded you of him jumped into your path.
And, you hate to admit but they were right.
They failed to take into consideration that even though your ex never actually moved in, the apartment was his as much as it was yours, quickly becoming your shared home as you fell into a routine that involved the other at every step.
Your three close friends were the only people present, but all you could see was him, a ghost roaming around and haunting every corner of the house you now despised, his giggles caressing your ears gently every time you moved from one room to the other.
Just being here felt like torture. How were you supposed to spend another two years sleeping in the same bed you shared with the person you thought was going to be your forever?
âSweetheart.â Chanâs gentle voice coaxes you out of the room as you manage to pull yourself together, no sign of crying or distress still present on your features. If anything, they looked worse than you, crestfallen and a little embarrassed.
âWe have something to tell you.â Seohyun steps closer, gently taking your hands into hers and intertwining your fingers loosely.
Jisung nods and is by your side in a second, throwing an arm around your shoulders as he lowers his mouth to your ear. âChris lost your new armchair.â
âWhat the fuck?!â
Your laughter joins theirs, a beat later, as Chris remains the only one standing there, arms crossed over his chest with his words falingl on deaf ears, nobody paying attention as he begins defending himself.
When youâre pulled into a warm embrace, with Jisungâs cologne enveloping all your senses, you canât help but start wondering. Is this a good time to finally reveal you never actually ordered a new chair orâŠ?
àŒâ§âË.
Saturday slipped away into a moment in time, and before you knew it, Sunday was upon you. Your last chance at relaxing before the craziness began, and youâd be thrust into a series of new projects, classes and assignments that were already giving you a headache.
Despite spending the previous night celebrating a new beginning with your best friends, having an intimate pizza party with karaoke and a little too much alcohol, you wake up bright and early to get to a previously made appointment. Usually, you wouldnât go anywhere for the summer, for the first two months anyway. But since you flew out of the country as soon as your exams were over, you didnât get to help the animal shelter you have been volunteering at since your first year. It left a hole in your heart, and youâd be lying if you said you didnât feel guilty for disappearing into thin air, with nothing more than a text sent to the owner to let her know youâll be going away for a while.
Hopefully, theyâre willing to forgive and forget and let you make up for it by spending the next two months as involved as possible.
âGood morning, sweetheart.â Comes Chanâs groggy voice, still husky from all the singing he did last night, stumbling out of your spare bedroom with barely open eyes.
You startle, losing your balance while putting on your other shoe and crashing into the wall by the front door. You were hoping to make a swift escape and return before any of them rose since nobody in their right mind would willingly wake up this early.
He appears from around the corner, tank top slightly raised as heâs trying to scratch at his back. âYou good?â
âYep, everythingâs just peachy.â Regaining your footing, you manage to put your shoe on and turn your back to him to get a jacket, feeling too awkward to make eye contact right now, which Chan would have laughed about if he wasnât so sleepy.
âWhere are you going?â He yawns, turning to squint at the clock on the far wall, above the couch. âItâs literally 7 am, too early to even be alive right now.â
For some reason, you hesitate to tell him, too out of it for your, and most definitely his liking. Being here was certainly not doing you any good, the walls closing in every time you tried to breathe and lift all the broken pieces of your stupid heart off of your lungs. It felt suffocating, especially when you were left alone with your thoughts as you zoned out one too many times.
Still, you mumble under your breath, reaching for your keys as silently as possible.
âHuh?â
With a sigh, you finally face him, eyes downcast. âFurry Friends Rescue.â
The smile that stretches across his features as he processes your words is so wide and contagious, it brightens up the whole room like he was somehow related to the sun itself, light radiating off of him in waves. It wakes him up instantly, and before you know it, he slips into a pair of slides left by the door and flies to his apartment.
You look after him, confused, and step into the hallway at the same time he does.
âAlright, letâs go!â He beams, locking his door before reaching for your arm softly. âIâll drive you!â
âWait, are you sure? I can â â
âYes, Iâm sure!â He frowns, shaking his head and pulling you after him with his newfound energy. âYou love it there, and I know you already miss Berry. The least I can do is offer you a ride, are you kidding?â
You canât help but smile at the mention of his puppy, spirits lifted in an instant. She was such a special little lady and you really bonded in these three months youâve spent at his parentsâ house.
Your parents never allowed you to have a pet, with your mom being allergic, so you did what you could to fill the space that remained constantly empty in your heart.
The drive there is full of laughter and even more singing, with Chris bringing back one of the activities you loved doing since he first got his license back in high school. Carpool karaoke has always been a must in his car, and thatâs why you rode with Seohyun on your way back from the airport yesterday. You were a fool because nothing was quite as therapeutic as being silly and singing Disney songs at the top of your lungs with the only person whoâs watched you grow into the adult you are today.
The drive to your destination isnât long, but you still manage to squeeze in five songs before you get off and Chris speeds off. Only after wishing you a good day and making you promise youâll call once youâre done so he can come pick you up, too. He was too kind, willing to do too much for you sometimes, but you were just the same. Youâre afraid you might try moving the moon if he asked, one day.
Your annoying, overprotective brother who wasnât really your brother, whoâd push you into the pool before jumping in to save you in the same breath. He was such a guy.
Approaching with a prep to your step, the shelterâs surroundings have changed drastically since your last visit. The trees in the back have dyed their leaves in warm shades of orange and yellow, scattering some on the ground in hopes of attracting more pet lovers. A beautiful background always pulled people in, just like all pretty things did, and this autumn is particularly beautiful, with sights straight out of famous paintings. Seoul was truly a special city, one thatâs nurtured and taught you the meaning of the word love thatâs being thrown around too casually for your taste, these days. The city you grew up in, where you found your love for writing and composing, and where you met the most amazing people on this planet.
No other city could compare to your birthplace, no matter how pretty or modern it was.
Just as you make to try the door, with your apology speech all ready to go, it suddenly opens and forces you to take a few steps back in surprise.
âIâm sorry, we arenât open yet.â The apology comes from a tall man, whose delicate features would have fooled you into believing he wasnât older than a high schooler. Yet his physique begs to differ, you could tell even from beneath all the layers. Heâs wearing the shelterâs apron with the logo youâve had Jisung design a few years back. A new employee, perhaps? You donât recognize him, so thatâs most likely the case.
Your gaze travels upwards until it meets his brown eyes that fidget at the sudden contact. âSorry, Iâm here to see Mrs. Jeon?â
The stranger shakes his head, bleached blond hair hiding an undercut following his every move. âMrs. Jeon is out of the country.â
You wait for him to continue, provide more details but when he doesnât and only raises a brow that almost asks âwhat are you still doing here?â you sigh and turn to leave. âRight. Will you please tell her Y/n has stopped by?â
âWait, Y/n L/n?â
You turn right on your heel, both of your eyebrows raised as if to challenge his. âDo I know you?â
He brings his hands up, showing he means no harm as a smile finds his rosy lips, one you donât truly grasp the meaning of. âNo! But I know you.â
Alright, now youâre properly creeped out. Noticing the look on your face, the man quickly corrects himself, letting out an awkward laugh as he rubs the back of his head. âIâm sorry, Iâm not good with strangers. Mrs. Jeon does! I was recruited in your place when you didnât come back in June.â
Oh, so he was your replacement. Great. You had no idea youâd entered a race to see how fast people and places you frequented could replace you during the summer. Very motivating and uplifting. You should have stayed home.
âOh.â Despite all the thoughts overlapping each other in your head, you only manage to sigh, properly exhausted.
His eyes widen slightly, and without thinking, he grasps your elbow when you turn around to leave for good. âPlease do come in! Mrs. Jeon has been waiting to hear from you. She left a note.â
âA note?â When he nods, you shake off his hand and accept the invitation, stepping inside filled with curiosity.
All of the furry friends were in the back, in a separate space away from the reception. The place was modern, decorated in warm, pastel colors that seemed to welcome you with a fuzzy hug, the surroundings pristine. Furry Friends Rescue was built from the ground up by Mrs Jeonâs late husband, who passed away a few years back, right after you started volunteering here. To honor his life, she kept this place running, making it her mission to find loving homes for all the animals that were brought in, investing most of her resources into modernizing the place and treating the animals like they deserved to be treated.
The shelter housed a veterinary office and a pet salon, run by other volunteers who were experts in their fields, students alike and even working people who would come by to offer a helping hand whenever they could. Mr Jeon was a vet â he used to treat all of the animals before he fell sick and became unable to work.
Making his way around the reception desk, which truly resembled the entrance of a corporation, even with all the pet pictures plastered on all the walls, and the dog pattern on the couch, the man picks up a note that was next to the bone-shaped phone.
âHere.â
Your fingers brush his as you take the small paper from him, but you donât pay any attention to the slight color that appears on his cheeks.
Dear Y/n,
I hope your precious heart managed to heal during your trip
What fitting words for someone who had no idea why you left in the first place. Guess Mrs. Jeon knew you better than you thought, after all.
If youâre reading this, it means I have not yet returned from visiting my grandbabies. It also means Jaemin is the one looking after the place
Please work together until Iâm back. Heâs a nice kid and I believe youâll get along well
That is if youâre still willing to return. Always put yourself first. If quitting is what you think is best, just know Iâll never hold it against you
With love, grandma J
P.S. thereâs a surprise on the other side đ
Curious, you flip over the page, eyes scanning the familiar handwriting to decipher what has she left you. A giggle escapes you soon after, shaking your head with fondness spilling from your eyes at her antics. Youâre glad that after everything sheâs been through, Mrs. Jeon has never changed.
âIs something funny?â The guy youâve come to learn is named Jaemin asks from the other side of the desk, head tilted slightly in wonder making him resemble an actual puppy.
You dismiss him with a wave of your wrist, pocketing the note. Mrs. Jâs brownie recipe you could never get enough of wouldnât interest him anyway.
âSo, youâre Jaemin?â You finally ask, giving him a once-over. He was tall, wearing a denim-on-denim outfit and smiled a little too brightly for your liking. Still, he did look like a nice guy, so you might as well give him a chance, even if meeting someone knew was the last thing you wanted to do.
As expected, he beams, thrusting a hand forward over the desk. âThatâs me! Nice to meet you, Y/n. Iâve heard a lot about you.â
You give him a small but genuine smile and shake his hand. âIâm a third year at SNU so I usually volunteer here during summer vacation. I hope we get along.â
He nods, listening to your every word. âYeah, Mrs. Jeon mentioned we go to the same university. Iâm a second year majoring in dance! Iâm also a part of the football team so I apologize in advance if I ever end up leaving you here all alone when the season starts.â
Oh, what were the odds?
Your smile drops despite your effort in not reacting, retracting your hand a little too quickly while nodding and trying to act as normal as possible. âCool.â
Turning around, you begin walking in the opposite direction to escape from this awkward situation Mrs. J has unknowingly put you in.
âShall we go see the animals?â
Heâs on your tail soon after, grabbing another apron on the way for you with that ever present sunny smile of his. Jaemin reminded you of a hyperactive puppy, a golden retriever who would do anything to make you happy, pulling silly stunts and stumbling over his own feet.
Turns out, his bright personality isnât the only reason Mrs. J has hired Jaemin. You spend the next four hours together, taking care of the animals and talking, to your surprise. They all seemed to love him already, causing a ruckus at the mere sight of him, excited to be let out and greet you both properly. The puppies especially as theyâd run back and forth from you to him without stopping for a while, barely managing to bottle feed them in their excitement. Jaemin was nice, and easy to talk to, happy to get to know you but also talk your ear off when sensing you might need a laugh, managing to make everything funny. A great pick me up, you ended up agreeing with Mrs Jâs statement â he was a good guy, the best that could have replaced you and helped her and all the staff in your absence.
For some reason, he felt comfortable opening up to you, and in turn, you told him some things about yourself too.
âWhat made you want to volunteer here?â He suddenly asks while cradling a noisy kitten, the sight comical.
You barely think before answering, gaze still trained on the bichon that has fallen asleep in your lap while you were brushing her. âI wasnât allowed to have pets growing up, and Iâve always loved them. I was lucky my best friend had the most adorable puppy in the world right next door, but it wasnât the same as owning one, you know?â
Jaemin nods, finally calming the kitten, eyes on you. âOh, that sucks. I couldnât imagine life without my two babies at home.â
You look up, curious. âYou have dogs?â
âTwo cats.â He throws a peace sign, chuckling when you smile. âIâm from Busan, so I only get to see them on holidays. I thought coming here and helping out four days a week might help me miss them less.â
âAnd? Does it help?â You point to the kitten that has fallen asleep in his arms, head crocked to the side weirdly. Looking down, he laughs and sets her in his lap, using his knuckles to gently pet between her ears, one of his hands as big as her whole body.
âIt does, actually.â He smiles absentmindedly, most likely reminiscing about his fur babies. âBut only momentarily. When Iâm back in my dorm room, I still feel their absence.â
âIâm sorry.â Is all you say, a deep pang of sadness hitting you out of nowhere. You guess this is how Chris and Jisung feel as well, both away from their respective dogs theyâve more or less grown up with.
Jaemin shakes his head, still smiling and not as sad as youâd thought heâd be. âNone of that. I facetime my mom every night just to see them.â
âThatâs cute.â A smile finds its way on your face as you imagine him using the same baby voice he uses with the animals here on the phone with his mom, cooing at his cats.
âYouâre cute.â
An uncharacteristic silence falls upon you as Jaemin searches for your gaze, dying to understand your reaction. It wasnât uncomfortable, just weird, making you feel like you were doing something wrong. Which made no sense. Jisung and Chan called you cute all the time; not out of nowhere, but when the moment was right. Heck, Seohyun would write entire pages praising your beauty whenever you posted on Instagram â you knew you were cute. But this was different, this was someone that meant it romantically, you could tell. He was flirting with you, shooting his shot and seeing where it landed.
That wasnât something you could reciprocate, especially not now.
When he notices the look in your eyes, the storm brewing behind them, he adds. âI was talking about Belle over there.â
You look down at Belle, the fluffy bichon in your lap, who is currently sleeping soundly on her back, tummy up and randomly kicking her feet once in a while, dreamland surely rowdy.
âShut up.â You laugh a moment later, appreciating how fast he took the hint and backed off, leaning over to softly push him on the doggy mats, to which he pretends to fall just for your amusement.
With that out of the way, things return to normal quickly and before you know it, the other volunteers arrive and youâre biding Jaemin goodbye and going on your merry way, back to your apartment.
Itâs afternoon now, hopefully your friends are awake by now.
àŒâ§âË.
They were in fact, not awake. Jisung just moved himself from the spare bedroom he shared with Chris for the night to the living room couch to sleep some more, without having to deal with the otherâs snoring. Seohyun was buried in your blanket, hiding from the world, in the same position she was in when you left that morning.
Like it or not, it seems their bodies were incapable of pulling all-nighters after doing it for so many years without suffering the day after. Hopefully, you all manage to fix your sleep schedules before your classes start properly, not wanting to miss too many and be left behind, confused out of your minds and barely figuring it out by the time exam season rolls around.
àŒâ§âË.
âIâm sleepy.â Seohyun complains, reaching up to rub her eyes before remembering the pretty eyeliner currently gracing her eyelids and stopping at the last second, groaning.
You giggle, full of energy from the coffee Chris made sure got into your system before your first class, swirling the ice in your cup absentmindedly, mind somewhere else.
Busy on his phone, he doesnât even look up as he responds. âYou barely made it to class this morning and youâre still complaining?â
Monday, 10:15 am. Your first class of the day officially ended fifteen minutes ago and as youâve been doing for two years now, your friend group meet up at your favorite location, the diner closest to campus that has become some sort of sanctuary by now.
Seohyun was majoring in communication so she did not share your classes yet somehow, the four of you have started the new school year in the same way â with a boring, way too long 8 am lecture that almost erased your will to live.
She shoots him a dirty look he doesnât notice, but otherwise doesnât respond, too tired to bother with Chris and his top student agenda. Because being popular, good at sports and everyoneâs friend wasnât enough for him; your best friend was the academic weapon every freshman aspired to be, without trying too hard either. Hands down the most gifted and smartest person you know.
âYou did go to bed super late last night.â You reach for her hand across the table, gently massaging her palm in hopes sheâll feel a bit better.
Just then, Jisung returns with your drinks, handing them out one by one like he was a barista himself. When heâs done and you all thank him, he takes his seat across from you and Chris, next to Seohyun. âWhat did I miss?â
âSeohyun was complaining.â Chris responds instantly, fingers typing away. What could be more interesting than spending time with your closest friends?
âOh, so nothing new.â
At the same time, you softly smack the back of Chrisâ head while she smacks Jisung, with a little more force, only the latter reacting loudly.
âStop being mean.â You reprimand, and Chris puts his phone down with a sigh, leaning back in his chair to stretch his arms above his head.
âFor your information, being late was not my fault.â Seohyun chimes in, finally in the mood to explain herself after taking several sips of her coffee. âThis random guy ran straight into me, I was tackled to the ground!â
Concern flashes over your features. âAre you okay?â
She nods. âYeah, donât worry. He helped me up and gathered all of my books while apologizing. Then I met up with Ji and he carried my bag to class.â
Both you and Chris shoot Jisung a curious look, not convinced he went through all of that trouble out of the kindness of his own heart.
âIn my defense,â Jisung shrugs, his arm thrown over the booth behind Seohyunâs head, âI really did not want to come to class.â
Chris chuckles and sips from his strawberry milkshake while you shake your head, smiling and pinching the back of Jisungâs hand that was resting on the table, to which he retaliates by throwing the straw paper in your face.
âTo be honest, I wasnât paying attention either so heâs not entirely to blame here.â She continues like neither of you has said anything, resting her head in her palm with a dreamy look in her eyes. âBesides, he was fucking gorgeous. I swear Iâve never seen such a beautiful man before. And his freckles? Literal constellations right on his cheeks, oh my god.â
âOkay, Juliet, pipe down.â Jisung flicks her forehead and she swats his hand away, glaring.
Amused, you lean closer with interest. âDid you get his name?â
She shakes her head. âNoâ Then, her gaze moves to Chris. âThatâs why, I need you to find him for me.â
Raising a brow, he reaches for your drink to have a taste before responding. âWhat am I, the local newspaper? Youâre the one who bumped into him.â
âYes, but you literally know everyone on campus.â
He makes a face, deeming your drink too bitter for his taste. âSo do you.â
That was true. Seohyun was the definition of a social butterfly, mingling with all cliques and being liked by everyone she came into contact with. However, she was also very perceptive so if someoneâs vibe seemed off, she could come across as cold and aloof, not giving them the time of day.
âPlease?â She continues, resorting to the infamous puppy eyes. âThis guy might be the love of my life, Chris, please help me.â
âWhat about Mark?â Jisung buts in, giving her a questioning look. Immediately, you and Chris signal for him to cut it out, abort the ship and never utter that name for as long as he draws breath.
Seohyunâs gaze drops to her cup, manicured finger moving back and forth on the edge, pretending she didnât hear any of the words that have left Jisungâs mouth. To his credit, Jisung looks a little guilty, arm sliding over her shoulder and squeezing briefly in a silent apology, hoping it will be enough to fix things.
The probability of this mystery guy being the love of her life was low, but Chris seemed to feel bad enough to give in, exhaling deeply. Seohyunâs track record wasnât great â for some reason, she always fell for emotionally unavailable guys, with her latest situationship ending not too long ago once she realized Mark did not want anything serious.
She didnât deserve all that. Seohyun was the sweetest, kindest person you knew, with a heart of gold. If anyone deserved to find true love and grow old with rosy cheeks, still feeling butterflies at the mention of her belovedâs name no matter how many years passed, it was her. And youâd be damned if you didnât try to make that happen.
âLetâs find this pretty boy of yours.â You smile as Chris nods, enjoying the way her face gradually lights up.
âReally?â
âIâd feel like I kicked a puppy while it was down if I didnât, so what the hell. Weâve done crazier things anyways.â Chris adds and she squeals, getting out of the booth to come over and hug him, suddenly excited.
âOh!â She rushes back to her seat, instantly rummaging through her bag. âThis is his. I think it got mixed up with my books when I dropped them. He was in a hurry.â
The three of you huddle together as she places a small notebook on the table, curious about its contents that might reveal the identity of Seohyunâs prospective newâŠsomething. Letâs hope boyfriend, and nobody that treats her less than that.
Chris is the one who dares open it, flipping through the pages in wonder.
âThese areâŠrecipes?â He blinks, drawing a blank as the measurements for the perfect âgooey browniesâ stare him right in the face.
None of you says anything for a moment, the gears in your head turning and working simultaneously before Jisung breaks the silence with an unexpected outburst.
âOh my god, heâs a fucking loser!â
Safe to say, he got smacked a couple more times before your next class of the day. Lovingly, of course.
àŒâ§âË.
With everyone promising to ask around for Seohyunâs prince charming, you go on with your day until your last class, when you established to meet again for a little get together with all of your other friends.
The sun was starting to set, casting a warm, golden hue that extended throughout the whole campus, creating mesmerizing surroundings you could barely look away from. Thankfully by now, youâre outside, enjoying the warm breeze and nice weather that might not return any time soon as the days will only continue to get shorter and shorter as time passes.
Youâre currently near the football field, cutting through near the bleachers to get to the other side where Chris and his swimming team are currently meeting. Seohyun is skipping a few feet in front of you, obviously in good spirits.
âDidnât know Chris needed a chaperone.â She teases, turning to you with a smile as she starts walking backwards.
You chuckle. âWell, he is our ride.â
âWe could have walked.â She stretches her arms as if to prove a point. âItâs such a beautiful day! Itâs a shame we have to miss out on the rest of it, too.â
You were on your way to a bar, a new one that opened all the way in Hongdae. The owner has invited 3racha, Chris and Jisungâs music group personally, so it would be rude to not show up, even if you did share her sentiment. If it were up to you, youâd be in bed, snuggling already, but your friends have made it a point to keep you out of the house as much as possible.
âJust say thank you, Seohyun.â
âThank you, Seohyun, for being the hottest girl around!â
You both laugh, enjoying each otherâs company before she turns back around and resumes her skipping, long, bleached hair flowing freely behind her in the prettiest way. As you reach for your phone to record her for memories, a speck of red gets your attention in an instant.
You keep walking but your eyes are glued to the field now, to the eight or so guys dressed in the white and red uniform of your universityâs American football team. Your heart rate picks up in an instant, scanning their jersey numbers in a hurry.
Relief floods your system when you donât find what youâre looking for, slowing down. These guys looked young, most likely freshmen trying out for a spot in the most famous football team your university has had in years. You didnât know how that worked, your memory failed you as you tried to remember when tryouts took place. It seemed a little too early for all that though, too soon to be looking for new people when the season kicked off somewhere in October, a good month and a half away. You couldnât help but wonder why the hurry.
âY/n! Watch out!â
Seohyunâs screaming startles you out of your thoughts, your eyes coming into focus to see a football flying right in your direction, quickly approaching your head. Before you know it, youâre ducking and running, feeling bad for snoozing and interfering with practice. Of course, this had to happen, you were cursed after all. You could never be near a sports field without something hitting you, no matter how small or insignificant the object, it always had to make contact with your face.
However, you donât make it very far before you come to an abrupt stop as you collide with something or better said, someone, the impact causing you to stumble a few steps back until rough, gloved hands stabilize you by the shoulders.
When you regain your footing and finally look up at your saviour, your heart actually stops.
Because the one looking back, right through you is none other than Hyunjin. Your Hyunjin.
Or actually, he wasnât yours anymore, now, was he?
Hyunjin whoâs written his name across your heart in golden letters, that suddenly lit up at the mere sight of him. Your ex-boyfriend looked almost unrecognizable, his short black hair replaced by long, bleached locks that were pushed back, away from his face in a little ponytail.
You were a fool to think he wouldnât be here. He was the captain after all and the coach was nowhere in sight.
The air wasnât entering your lungs anymore, yet somehow you were still breathing, being kept afloat by his familiar hands on your skin, so overly conscious of his touch that you barely registered the shiver running down your spine.
After three months apart with no communication, Hyunjin was finally looking at you, forced to acknowledge your presence. It felt a little surreal, bumping into him so soon. Sure, you were expecting it, but not on your very first day back to campus, not when you still havenât processed the fact that you werenât together anymore. Everything in you longed for him and all his endearing quirks, even after all this time; even after he broke your heart.
You donât dare look away, and neither does he, enthralled by those beautiful eyes of his that used to watch your every move with so much love and care. Now, you donât see any of these emotions, but there is an intensity to his gaze that you canât quite put your finger on. Time always seemed to come to a stop when you were with him and right now it was no different. All of your surroundings faded, leaving him the sole object of your attention.
There was a new piercing adorning his face, right under his bleached eyebrow. It looked good, like everything he deemed worthy enough to leave a mark on his body. But that wasnât what got your heart beating again, pounding against your ribcage at an alarming pace he was sure to hear even from afar.
Without looking away, his hands slide down your arms slowly, and for a brief moment, you think theyâre going to find solace in yours, just like theyâve done for all these years. By the surprise flickering in his eyes, you believe he thought of the same thing, catching himself at the last second and taking a step back, arms falling to his side heavily.
âYo, what the fuck was that?â A new voice has you both snapping out of it, finally allowing you to look away and escape the staring war neither had the resources to win. Itâs familiar, and as someone stops right by your side, seemingly out of nowhere, thereâs no doubt in your mind about his identity.
âY/n, are you okay?
You blink, and the magic from before finally dissipates completely, almost like the spell Hyunjin has got you under broke the moment he made himself busy by reaching for his helmet on the ground. When you manage to tear your eyes from him, Yeonjun, one of his friends and teammates, comes into view and places a hand on your shoulder in concern. The ball that almost collided with your head is under his other arm, and you notice that heâs not wearing his gloves as he should be.
Eventually, you nod, looking straight into his eyes while mustering your most convincing smile. âYeah, donât worry. Nothing even happened.â
âIt almost did.â He states, glaring towards the group of men who seemed glued on the spot. âIf it werenât for Hyunjin, things might have ended badly.â
You look away, not knowing how to act around them anymore. Hyunjin doesnât respond either, just moves out of the way as Seohyun sprints to your rescue, pulling your body into the tightest hug and putting some distance between you and the two men.
âAre you okay? Youâre not hurt anywhere, right?â Sheâs instantly checking you all over, dusting invisible dirt off your clothes before patting your head lovingly, just like a mother would do to comfort her sobbing child. Truthfully speaking, you werenât far from turning into one, but the mortification of bursting into tears in front of all these people kept your emotions in check. You reckon a football to the face would have hurt less than having Hyunjin treat you like a stranger heâs meeting for the first time, barely reacting to your sudden appearance.
In hindsight, him reacting differently was almost impossible. Especially in the way youâd want him to react. Hyunjin had changed right before your very eyes in the last months before your relationship ended, burying his sweet and sensitive nature so deep down that you feared it might have gotten erased permanently.
Grasping her hands, you nod to calm her racing mind. âIâm fine, mom.â Then, you turn to Yeonjun again. âSorry for interrupting practice like that. I should have been more careful.â
You hear Hyunjin scoff from somewhere behind you, still not brave enough to show his face, while Yeonjun shakes his head vehemently. âNonsense. You did nothing wrong. Those guys though? They did plenty.â
He squeezes your shoulder reassuringly before excusing himself to join said guys, voice loud and annoyed. âWho were you passing that to? Are you fucking blind or just stupid?â
Yeonjun had no authority over them, not like Hyunjin did anyway. But he was still a seasoned player, one thatâs been with the team for two years, so his words carried significant weight. He was a year older than all of you yet only decided to give football a chance in his second year, joining the team at the same time as Hyunjin. Their roles on the team were the opposite of each other â while Hyunjin was on the offensive, Yeonjun was a defensive player in charge of keeping the other team as far away as possible. Yet, they clicked and worked so well together that the probability of SNU losing a game with both of them present was close to none.
Bonding outside the field proved just as easy and before you knew it, Yeonjun became one of Hyunjinâs treasured friends, bringing their envied teamwork to more events than necessary.
For these guys to have a chance before the coach, they first needed to impress these two. And one thing about Hyunjin was that he was very hard to impress, especially in the areas he excelled in.
Your eyes naturally gravitate towards him along with your thoughts, his magnetic field still as strong as always. To your utter surprise, he moved to stand a little further away, facing his potential new teammates.
âWho threw that?â
The sound of his voice alone is enough to overwhelm you, suddenly way too emotional to keep still, to manage to keep your cool and act as nonchalant as he was. You havenât heard that voice in so long, youâre sure youâd have collapsed if he as much as uttered your name.
Your name on his tongue has always been your favorite sound, no other word ever coming close to having that same effect.
Sheepishly, one of the guys steps forward while rubbing the back of their necks, visibly taken aback by the coldness in Hyunjinâs voice.
Hyunjinâs eyes narrow just as Seohyun links her arm through yours and tugs your body closer.
âApologize.â
âYes, captain!â He nods instantly, bowing repeatedly in Hyunjinâs direction to show exactly how sorry he feels for disappointing him. âIâm ââ
âNot to me.â Hyunjin crosses his arms over wide chest, shoulder blade plates making him look even more intimidating as he stands to his full height, rolling his eyes. âTo her.â
Your eyes widen as the guy looks up, searching for you with confusion visible even through his big helmet. Hesitantly, he changes targets, stopping before you and Seohyun.
âHyunjin â â You manage to squeak out, hating the way your voice almost gets caught in your throat, heat rushing to your face.
âLet him apologize.â His gaze travels to you leisurely, impatience clear in usual doe eyes.
But you arenât far behind, a little annoyed by his insistence, managing to pull yourself together to counter. âI donât think thatâs necessary.â
âAnd last I checked, I didnât ask for your opinion.â As quick-witted as always, Hyunjin isnât even looking at you anymore, not bothering to react in any other way, like you werenât even worth getting annoyed at. âHe made a mistake that under normal circumstances, could have cost us the game. He needs to own up to it and apologize not only to you but to his teammates as well.â
Then, the guy seems to get smaller under his sharp gaze, instantly dropping into a deep bow and obeying Hyunjinâs words to a T. âIâm so sorry for throwing the ball in your direction!â In the next second, heâs spinning around and bowing to the other guys as Seohyun struggles to keep in her laughter at his next words. âIâm sorry for being an idiot!â
To his credit, Hyunjin hasnât addressed him as such, always one to keep things professional. Yet, you notice the slight twitch of his mouth, obviously pleased and amused as Yeonjun bursts out laughing.
The guys bow in return, and suddenly theyâre all shouting apologies at each other, owning up to all of the little mistakes theyâve made up until now that mightâve inconvenienced the other in some way, feeling bad for possibly giving anyone a hard time.
Not being able to hold it in anymore, your best friend almost collapses from laughter, needing to walk it off to calm down, only to start again as she locks eyes with Yeonjun a little farther away.
Youâre so taken aback that you donât even know how to react, watching the scene before you as flabbergasted as one could get. It was wholesome to see these kids already acting like a team but a part of you couldnât help but feel bad once it remembered none might actually get to play and represent their university on the field. Hyunjin was trying to instil some discipline into them, but at what cost? What was the point?
Just as youâre contemplating everything that happened, the eight guys suddenly stop and turn to bow in Hyunjinâs direction as well, apologizing at the same time like itâs an activity theyâve rehearsed beforehand. It gets quiet as they wait for an answer, not even daring to raise their heads and see Hyunjinâs reaction, just patiently waiting for the go ahead so they can go back to practice.
Since when was Hyunjin running this team like the fucking marines?
Despite not looking at him, when Hyunjin nods they all stand to their full heights before him, awaiting further instructions. The mood shifts, all tense and serious like they werenât sweet and wholesome just a moment ago.
âSince none of you seem able to handle one of these yet,â he barely finishes his sentence before Yeonjun passes him the ball, catching it with ease to hold up for the others to see. It all happened so quickly and naturally, that the others most likely didnât notice, but you did. Hyunjin isnât using his dominant hand. âyouâll be running laps until the coach gets here. Whoever is not up for it, drop your gears â youâre out.â
Youâre expecting complaints and groans in protest but instead, they all nod and succumb to their miserable fates, doing exactly what Hyunjin has instructed. A little further away, you notice Yeonjun laughing without shame, having a blast at their expense.
âAsshole.â Seohyun murmurs, rolling her eyes, and youâre unsure who sheâs talking about. âLetâs go. Any more time and Chris will send his speedo wearing army out in the wild to look for us.â
You want to laugh, to agree, and turn your back on this incident and leave without a word. But you canât, feet lodged into place like you were standing on the biggest patch of mud around.
Hyunjinâs back was already to you, form cladded in that familiar uniform youâve felt under your fingertips for years. The 20 under his surname written in capital letters on his jersey were almost mocking you, mad for holding their twin hostage in your mess of a closet. It doesnât matter â in a month or so, theyâll be replaced in favour of a new design that comes around every new season. Just like your presence in his life will inevitably be filled by someone else; someone better, capable of loving him at his worst.
You had so much to say, so many words eager to escape and latch onto him, to get his attention and feed from it, growing bolder and more desperate with every second spent by his side. Hyunjin always brought the best out of you â until he broke things off. Then everything just came to a stop. Like someone lifted the stylus off of a vinyl before the song got the chance to come to an end, damaging the record and your ears in the process.
You loved music but suddenly, your life was quiet.
Hyunjin has been your muse for the entirety of your relationship, all of your songs based on him and the love that managed to blossom thanks to your shared effort. The butterflies and the fireworks all faded without a trace, making your music sound bland and meaningless, off-key since the one who inspired it was no longer there.
You wanted to call out his name, get him to stop and not leave you behind again but you didnât know how, unable to without bursting into tears and breaking down for everyone to see. Hyunjin has been a part of your life for so many years, how were you ever supposed to start acting like he never was? Erasing him and the mark he left would surely be impossible without a potion of sorts, some Eternal Sunshine mechanism that will ensure your brain will be tricked into believing he was never here, to begin with.
Seohyun is off to the side, giving you the space needed to put your thoughts in order, for your next move. This was your chance, the moment youâve been waiting for.
But you couldnât do it. You couldnât run after him no matter how loudly your heart was screaming in protest.
So, you turn around and latch onto your best friend as she begins pulling you along, quick to come to your rescue as always. Struggling to keep it together, with tears welling up in your eyes, you miss the way he turns to look in your direction one more time. One last time.
Youâve always believed Hyunjin was the love of your life, the one youâd grow old holding hands with.
Now, your perspective has changed, as did the main character role he has played in your story for the past five years. No longer was he the charming male lead, the prince coming in on a white horse to swoop you off your feet in a grand gesture of romance.
Hyunjin was the loss of your life. The one that managed to get away even with the tight grip youâve tried to keep on his heart.
Hyunjin transformed into a background character that wonât be there for the ride, and wonât get to witness the new developments happening from now on in your life.
You would have rather been the one written off the story if it meant keeping him. Unfortunately, that was not a possibility since without you, there wouldnât be a story to begin with.
