“why'd you do it?” you asked your girlfriend, playing with the straps of her bag. “she was too close to you and i wasn't going to let her steal you from me— you're mine, and she should know that” she spat out, rolling her eyes before looking at you. “maybe you don't know it either, hm? think i may need to prove it to you” she smirked, dragging you towards the showers in no time.

(Other than the really weird bit about "Male presenting Doctor") what were your thoughts about the specials?

pretty mixed bag, pretty messy, but good overall. i think they were very obviously a nostalgia trip for people around my age lol and it worked! i loved seeing tennant and tate back onscreen together, their chemistry hasn't aged a bit, and honestly just watching doctor who that wasn't written by chris chibnall was a breath of fresh air. they weren't boring, like seasons 11 and 12 were, and they didn't go too far off the other end into nonsense like flux did. characters want things again! the show can let itself just be silly! i was literally cheering out loud when donna and the doctor were just saying random scifi gobbledegook at each other for like a solid several minutes during the star beast.

the structure of the specials kind of baffles me. i love wild blue yonder--i think it's definitively the best of the specials as a standalone, it's absolutely fantastic, creepy and atmospheric and bringing things around to RTD's strength, which is well-written characters interacting with each other and letting good actors just act. but at the same time i dont understand why it exists? it feels like...idk. imagine if you watched the star wars original trilogy but instead of the empire strikes back the middle film was just a feature length film about luke and han surviving on an ice planet with no reference to anything that happens in the last film except the two characters' relationship. and then the next film was still return of the jedi, unchanged. it felt like that

i liked all the weird campy silliness of the star beast and the giggle, and they were both very fun! neil patrick harris gave a fantastic performance, there are a lot of very memorable sequences from the giggle, but it's very very all over the place. so many threads get kind of picked up and go nowhere. the toymaker's haunted house dimension goes nowhere. RTD's eyerolling social media commetnary goes nowhere (thank god tbh but yknow im illustrating something here). even the toymaker kind of goes nowhere, after ncuti gatwa shows up he's bascially an afterthought who loses by dropping a ball. obvious parallels to david tennant's first episode with that ball scene could be made, but just... aren't. it feels like load-bearing sectikons of the plot and themes were cut out to make room for a backdoor pilot for the stupid fucking UNIT spinoff

oh and it goes without saying i fucking hate all the UNIT wank in the star beast and the giggle. i hope space nine eleven 2 happens to their stupid fucking avengers tower i cannot stand kate stewart who is constantly a murderous bonehead (in the giggle alone she gets two pepole killed by not listening to the doctor and assuming that this teleporting godlike entity could be restrainted by Two Guys) who is both in and out of universe just a boring nepo baby with no merit of her own

um. i still dont know what happened with the regeneration. i think the implication is that when david tennant dies hell time travel back to become ncuti gatwa inside himself--at least the rehab dialogue seems to make that implication. but it's not really explained or explored? baffling. i do think that fourteen getting to settle down and live a peaceful life with his friends is cute.

oh yeah and the ask said other than that but goddd there was some good stuff in the star beast and honestly with the state of the UK media i will take any perspective on trans people that includes baseline human erespect but some of those lines made me cringe so bad. anyway overall i am cautiously optimistic for the future of the show--oh ncuti was fucking great did i mention that i instantly bnought him as the doctor he owned the scene, the moment he was there it was clear he was the protagonist, and i liked the church on ruby road well enough too--i am cautiously optimistic but i worry that a big UNIT-shaped tumor will devour huge chunks of it and it'll be annoying. also russel t davies is like 60 and i just dont want to hear what he has to say about twitter so im not looking forward to dot and bubble

ash & squiddo are childhood friends, like gi-hun & sang-woo are. they got separated when ash went to university— then dropped out, and started scamming people and making very poor decisions with both people and money … which Ended up landing him in debt, so he joined the games!! squiddo joined the games for fun, figuring they could use the extra cash and thinking she’d get a good story out of it at they very least (she was very very wrong)

ash & squiddo recognized each other after the first game, and then decided to stick really close to each other after, now knowing that their lives are at stake :D and yes, squiddo ends up letting ash win, even if it wasn’t outright— she knew ash would desperately try to let her win, so she needed to make it look like she was actually trying, and then ultimately let ash win with a little bit of lies and trickery (which is ironic, considering that’s how ash got into the games in the first place)

ash had made a lott of enemies in squid games — both from past scams and both of him just accidentally pissing people off during the games , but squiddo decides to stick with him anyway :D both squiddo and ash are real smart, so that’s mostly how the end up surviving until the marbles game & glass bridge game respectively. anyways i probably have more thoughts about themBUT i need to STEW okay i need to COOK. also i’m thinking of adding scamduo in there… as enemies or teammates i’m not sure yet but red is Definitely Going to Be There

I’m so in love with the outsider view of the ravens from family members of the other players, the players who are not perfect court. We know Jean is fucked up, Riko, Kevin, Neil. But the only view we’ve ever seen of the Ravens is from someone who understands.

Lucas kind of breaks my heart in a way, in his relationship with his brother. He’s not a good person, but it’s his older brother joined a cult and came back as a different person.

Little siblings idolise their older siblings so much. Maybe Lucas joined the Trojan’s because his brother was on a Class I Exy team and he was determined to impress him. I wonder if his brother was excited about joining the Ravens. I wonder if he lost contact with his family gradually, or was it immediate as he walked through the doors to the nest for the first time?

Lucas saw his brother go off to college and never come back, and when he DOES come back, he’s a shell of a person. Like, I know we throw around the word cult because it’s like a cult but… it IS a cult. All those Ravens that attempted and/or died after losing their “life purpose” didn’t see another option. It’s Exy or die. It’s Ravens or die. They’re all brainwashed so badly into feeling like they need Edgar Allan in order to survive, into feeling as if anything outside of Exy is worthless. So many of them are going to be incapable of adjusting back to “normal” life.

Do you think Jeans family felt the same way? When they found themselves so deeply involved in crime, with the Moriyama’s, they saw no other options? It’s give our son to the Moriyama’s or die. It’s traffic our daughter or die. I guess we don’t know much at all about what happened to his sister, but she probably felt the same way Lucas did: my big brother has gone off to university, he’s talented and playing for a Class I Exy team, but he does not speak to our family anymore. His family does not exist to him anymore. Exy is his life and there is no option, no way he can live a normal life again if Exy is not in it.

If she were alive, I don’t think she would recognise Jean if they found each other again. So Sam passed out the prior episode and survived which we all can yippie at that. Passing out and having no control of your body is very traumatising and for Sam to instantly panic and decide that dealing with ERROR was his priority is. Concerning. But god he is going to do the exact same thing as Jonathan. Celia not wanting for him to go alone but while also hating the idea of even entertaining ERROR at all seems like an accurate response. I feel like people experiencing the horrors together feels more relevant in this rather than TMA but still all the inescapable horrors happen alone anyways. I had something i was meant to add one but ill mention it in another post

this is one of my all-time favourite simi fics because of how beautiful it is - their story isn't over-embellished, it's just given a lot of space to shine. there's a certain heartache that comes w/ the added complication of ferrari & discarding of naivete & us vs the world levels of heroic framing & the idea that seb isn't ok but kimi's there that makes the fic really bring on the waterworks for me.

there are still some tiny sweet moments that shine through. amidst all the Stuff going on. and the vulnerability becomes all the more devastating. like yes this is ageplay this is performance (to some extent) but it's also very real. characterisation is breathtaking, sex speaks for itself, possessive kimi + desperate seb is hmmmmhmmhm. rearranging my brain.

i’m not gonna lie when i first sat down to write this chapter is was like 😀😀😀 i’ve never written johnny or peter (or ANYONE actually) as like an active couple how the hell am i gonna do this lol 🫠 i don’t think id even written & posted a kissing scene EVER prior to the previous chapter so i was a bit worried i might not write them as an awkward baby couple as well as i wrote them cluelessly pining over each other if that makes sense

but after much writing and rewriting and scrapping and editing, i’m happy with the way it turned out. johnny is good at (gently) pushing peter out of his romantic comfort zone so that made their dynamic easier & more fun to write

in terms of #irondad i remember a line from ultron where he said something like “i see a suit of armor around the world” and then i was like “omg he wants to put a suit of armor around peter to protect him because peter is HIS world 😭😭😭” but also seeing how badly that went for him in age of ultron sometimes his good intentions can be slightly harmful, although to a less extreme degree in this situation/story. but yeah even tho he beat him up it’s out of love lol 💗
