honestly my favorite part of a bi-coded jason reading of HoO is the scene in BoO where Jason is dying a little bit and thinking about Nico, and Piper is holding him and giving him a look. and Jason in his fatally wounded delirium goes "Oh! Piper can sense when people are heartbroken or whatever. She must be able to tell I'm thinking about Nico. Because Nico is heartbroken 😌 that's what that look is about."

but actually reading the situation for real it just sounds like Piper is giving Jason an "I know what you are" look.

So, Thalia clearly wanted to talk to Jason alone in tlh and is kind of disgruntled Jason asked Leo to stay. But Jason is afraid and it’s all too much and he can’t do this alone. Leo was ready to go and give them privacy, but when Jason asks him to stay, Leo agrees immediately. Leo‘s a joking dumbass throughout most of that conversation, but he’s there for Jason. He tries to be supportive. Afterwards, when Jason’s clearly struggling, Leo makes an effort to walk next to him and try to make him feel better.

Leo also taps out ‘Love you’ in Morse code onto his knee when Thalia talks about Beryl. I now raise the following concept to you: Annabeth knows Morse code. Potentially, this means Thalia also knows Morse code. Thalia does not have context for this message being about Leo’s mom.

I’m currently highly entertained by the thought that she just fully assumed they were either dating or getting there. This doesn’t come up until they’re having a conversation ages later and Thalia casually asks how his boyfriend is doing and Jason just smiles and goes “Leo’s great :D” before pausing in confusion because they just got together and he did not tell her they were dating yet.

Thalia proceeds to give Jason shit about the fact that she figured out him and Leo were into each other months before either of them realized it forever.

Was thinking about an AU where Bianca lives—but all I can think of is how much trouble all Big Three kiddos can get into together because demigod luck + being children of the Big Three = chaos, and now I'm imagining something exploding in the distance. There's screaming, monster roars followed by pained cries, and last minute plans that somehow worked. Both camps just heave a big collective sigh.

thinking abt tlt, som, and ttc era percy

percy who's still struggling to find his footing at camp, and every single time during those first three prophecies, he's seen as the outcast, and never once brought into the fold until he comes back after finishing the prophecy.

there's always something that pushes him to the outskirts, something that gives the other campers fodder to make fun of him or completely ignore him.

he thinks he's found his place after the minotaur? nope, turns out everyone sees him as a bad omen and he doesn't make any friends because the entire camp refuses to be around him.

he thinks he's found his place after lighting thief? restoring zeus' bolt? NOPE he finds out tyson is a cyclopes and his brother and now one of his closest friends + the campers are icing him out and grover's not around.

he thinks he's found his place after sea of monsters? restored thalia's tree and hey, now he's got a cousin? NOPE he's pushed aside in favor of her by the campers and chiron and is seen as incompetent and his best friend has been kidnapped and he's being blamed.

rereading those first three books now is so painful, because the way percy gets treated by the camp hurts so much, because literally all he wants is to be accepted by this group of people he should have so much in common with, but every single turn meets him with more people pushing him away.

and it isn't until battle of the labyrinth, until he's named as the child of the prophecy, that people actually start to treat him as one of them.

annabeth watching percy get offered godhood after losing luke, thalia joining the hunteresses and sacrificing everything in battle

annabeth watching thalia get offered a position as a huntress after annabeth was the one actively looking to join them

annabeth watching hermes, the father luke renounced shout at her and blame her for his downfall because hermes cares about luke so much whilst her godly parent doesn’t seem to care whether she lives or dies

annabeth watching a mortal (rachel) and percy essentially take over leading her quest after training to lead a quest since she was seven years old

annabeth watching both of percy’s parents try to look after him whilst she can’t seem to find one half decent parent who cares about her

I love how the PJO show has taken liberties in adding scenes that were not from the books and lessing some stuff from the books at the same time because this would mean that there will be more chances for us to expect the unexpected and at the same time make the characters more nuanced than they already are.

Like how Percy knew about the Oddyessey beforehand meaning that there will be a change in his interaction with Calypso 'cause he'd know what to expect and the fact that he already is aware of seers and their bad luck making a very new take on how Percy and Annabeth will interact with Rachel will probably be as a way for them to keep her safe from her bad luck and Annabeth will probably be more aware of this and be approachable towards her than the "girl hates girl" way that Rick showed in the books for once

Or how Annabeth is going to see this as an opportunity to fight more or be much more conflicted against Luke now that she knows his true mission and how Thalia is probably gonna react more to this information knowing that she did not see any of Luke's characteristic of hurting a child.

god i'm thinking about how "the stolen chariot" takes place post-"titan's curse" and how that's a turning point for percy and clarisse's relationship, and how clarisse probably saw straight through percy's facade and saw exactly how he was treated during that time at camp and how sad and lonely he probably was because grover was tripping over himself around the hunters and chiron was so focused on thalia and annabeth was gone

and that leads me into thinking about the head counselors again and how maybe, in their own ways, they gave percy little things to show their support. moments of help, little gifts.

silena sitting in the pegasus stables with percy, holding onto his arm and being a big sister presence to him. not talking, just being there for him, giving him some semblence of stability

beckendorf dragging percy off to test new weapons he made in the arena, turning it into a game that had a smile spreading over percy's face for the first time in days

travis and connor sneaking coke and candy into camp for their honorary brother, leaving it in the poseidon cabin with little cards that had the corniest jokes written on them

clarisse spars with percy more, pulling him to the arena when she sees the stormy look in his eyes, when he can't think about anything else but how frustrated he is

lee pulls percy into the medical tent to test his healing abilities with water, because it's been an obsession for the apollo cabin since percy arrived, and he can't help but make percy laugh with his eagerness

castor and pollux convince their father to let up on percy, just a little bit, to let him have a looser curfew, letting him sit out by the lake for as long as he needs, sometimes sitting with him in the quiet

katie leaving little plants in the poseidon cabin, little succulents and flowers that are easy to care for, something small that makes percy's eyes light up every time he gets a new one, and he lines the windows of the cabin with them

malcolm, bless him, is so aware of his sister and percy's crushes on each other, and takes it upon himself to make sure that his sister's best friend doesn't waste away, and he's the one who makes sure percy eats and sleeps and stays healthy.

and clarisse will deny it until the day she dies, but percy knows that she's the one setting everything up. it was her suggestion, though the other counselors know they'll get fried if they say anything.

and he doesn't say anything, not until after "the stolen chariot", when he and clarisse are sitting down for a burger, and he brings it up quietly. and clarisse just huffs and rolls her eyes, and percy's heart warms so much at the fact that, despite the winter being the worst one of his life, he was surrounded by people who loved him and supported him.

(annabeth definitely gives hugs to all the head counselors when malcolm tells her, because they kept her seaweed brain going)
