I've been meaning to answer this for ages but kept forgetting!!

Took me a while to decide who to draw but ended up going with the amazing Queen Lucy

TGGTVAV x TGS AU!

Ok so Sage has always been talking about The Gentleman’s guide to Vice and Virtue and I finally got around to reading it and to say the least… I LOVED IT, every part of it! Whilst reading this fantastical tale, I just COULD NOT stop thinking of the Jekyon parallels to Monty and Percy… Just AGRGHHH they are all such big, lovable, queer Victorian idiots! Anyway If you couldn’t tell by the title of this post, I slam-dunked that book into my favorites pile and hastily made another AU. (also,,, SPOILERS! I am warning you. But what are you doing? Go read this book already!) 

In short I’ve basically taken The Characters from TGS and dumped them into the storyline/plot of TGGTVAV, In saying that neither Jekyll or Lanyon are strictly Percy or Monty, if that makes sense? I contemplated this over and over and I just couldn’t cram Jekyll or Lanyon’s characters into Monty or Percy’s. as an example; Lanyon’s personality is a lot more similar to Monty’s than Percy but Lanyon isn’t bisexual (a big aspect of Monty’s character) Yet at the same time both Lanyon and Percy play the Violin, both have dreamy freckles etc. But he just doesn’t fit into either of them, same goes with Jekyll; Jekyll and Monty both share similarities but are both very different, yet not different enough to take the role of Percy. So with all of that confusing explanation, Jekyll and Lanyon remain themselves with a few extra ~touches~: 

Jekyll is going to be sent to the mental asylum in Holland due to the existence of Hyde. Lanyon finds out about Hyde when he involuntarily transforms in Marseilles. 

Lanyon still plays the Violin and brings it on the Tour with him (for the reasons of plot accuracy and me pushing the Violin-Lanyon propaganda) 

Lanyon takes Monty’s position of power (as in his father is an Earl, and sends them on Tour) although Lanyon is rich, racism still very much exists and isn’t a terminated theme.

Before I continue and as a side note: Felicity Does not exist. As much as I wanted to work her into this, I just couldn’t without complicating a bunch of things, and as I said this is an Au, my au and I can do what I want - I do love Felicity but She just wasn’t going to work here.

Frankenstein (still a woman) takes the role of Mateu Robles because I thought it would be fun to play on the idea that Frankenstien created life and that Mateu’s panacea can heal people. After researching and experimenting, Frankestein tried the potion on Elizabeth but it stopped her heart, similar to how Frankenstein's original creation (the creature) ended up killing her love. I thought it would be interesting, that because Frankenstein kind of killed her wife, she created Helena and Dante the same way she made the creature, although they technically aren’t human, Helena and Dante still look and act like humans, and they believe Elizabeth equally as their mother as they do with Frankenstein. (Don’t ask me how a WLW relationship would work in the 1800’s ,,, everyone just thinks that Frankie is a guy {kind of like in TGS} ) 

Queen Lucy is Scipio because a.) We need more female badasses and b.) take ONE LOOK at her character design and Tell me she DOESN’T Look like a pirate queen- I also just think Lucy is a super fun character that I wanted to incorporate here. 

Those are about all the added things/changes - the rest basically just follows the same points of the plot :0 

If I’m completely honest, I probably won’t do much with this I just had an idea and wanted to share it :))

was in a library today and I happened to catch sight of a dan brown book a few shelves away from me and all of the sudden at that exact moment like a lightning strike I realized that when queen lucy accidentally calls lanyon "langdon" in tgs chapter 7 it was probably a nod by the author to robert langdon of dan brown fame??? the da vinci code et cetera et cetera?? as an avid enjoyer of both I cannot believe it took me this long if so 💀

Idk about casting much tho, like, maybe Jekyll would be Shiloh and Hyde would be grave robber? With Nathan being Frankenstein or something? Or perhaps Jekyll is Nathan and Hyde is Shiloh, with Queen Lucy as grave robber? Have no clue about the Largos tho. Maybe Blind Mag could be Rachel or something? I suppose Marni could be Morcant or something.

Oki cokey, hi TGS Tumblr 😃😉 It’s me. Again. Maybe I’ll get bored of this next week or maybe even more ideas will keep springing in my head, this tale is too elaborate and the need to analyse everything in it is too high for me to comment.

Now, I was thinking about this earlier today in a discord server and I kinda really loved the idea. We were discussing something about how characters by the name ‘Lucy’ are always kinda condemned, namely in Dracula. And it got me thinking about our Queen, Cutthroat Lucy.

Hot take- maybe a little to hot that it’s gonna disintegrate- BUT; we can all agree that Dracula’s Lucy is a polyamorous icon- read, “Why can’t we just marry all the men who love us” (I think, don’t quote me directly lmao), and we know that Sage is an absolute Gothic lit nerd (like all of us) and Dracula’s a must read, so maybe Cutthroat Lucy pays homage to that, in the way that she’s also a polyamorous icon?

Idk. I know it seems far fetched, and I know that as a writer myself, not everything I do in a story or about a character has meaning, but at the same time, wouldn’t it be dead cool if Sage did acc do that?

well you see it's unclear and from lanyon's pov he saw jekyll with green eyes right after they devil's tangoed (presumably) and the next morning jekyll woke up as hyde. Exactly what Hyde is in relation to Jekyll's feelings about Lanyon (or what hyde is at all) is unclear, because it seems like part of J's intention was to rid himself of those feelings and also any gayness with Hyde, but that didn't work because Jekyll as Jekyll still loves Lanyon.

Hyde clearly has some sort of complicated feelings about Lanyon, due to how he behaved when they met in Queen Lucy's house, but it's difficult to know whether those are due to him sharing a brain with Jekyll, or because he is Jekyll's more emotional half (the right brain, if you must).

So, although obviously physically Lanyon danced Satan's Salsa with Jekyll, due to the fact that the way tgs Jekyll split himself is so complicated and undefinable, it's impossible to say how present Hyde would have been mentally in that moment.

And no matter how difficult it is for us, it's even more difficult for Lanyon, who doesn't know nearly as much as we do. All Lanyon knows is that Jekyll and Hyde 'share a frontal lobe' (in his words), and that he saw Jekyll's eyes turn a color that they have never been (green) during an intimate moment, suggesting that in some capacity that intimate moment was also with Hyde.

I love love LOVE how well the tgs characters are written btw (more under the cut because there are so many characters I want to talk about)

I love rachel's storyline of unhealthy coping mechanisms in grief and learning to cope more healthily and find new things in life.

I love how jasper is learning to accept himself as a werewolf and how that mirrors his coming to terms with his own gender identity and how confident in himself and his right to happiness he's becoming.

I love frankenstein's storyline of a deeply hurt person who is scared of intimacy and pushes people away (and was hurt badly by a society that feared weird people and especially women) and how she learns to accept companionship and friendship from others and form bonds again.

I love how lanyon is learning that his father wasn't always the antagonistic monolith he always saw him as and how he's finding his footing in society while also being more honest and open to himself and others about his emotions.

I love how creature is slowly becoming used to being liked by people and standing up for himself when he's treated badly. I really wish we got to see more of him because I loved his short story!

I love how queen lucy started off being simply hyde's idolised figure and has become less of an idol and more of a person as we see more of her and I love how it highlights how different a celebrity might be in the public and private eye.

I love how the lodgers are given their own personalities and that we see enough of them to know their personalities and know a few facts about each.

I love how jekyll and hyde have been interpreted as an exploration into the consequences of victorian repression and people who feel like they are struggling to exist in peace with two halves, whether that be attraction to multiple genders, or coming from multiple cultural backgrounds, or many other things. I love how hyde has been reimagined to not necessarily be truly evil in himself, but to be labelled as such because that's what society sees him as. he's a whole person, just as jekyll is, with the same capacities for good and evil.

I could ramble about all of this for HOURS because I've never really read anything where so many characters are so deeply explored and able to be analysed and loved for all the different things about them.
