Not Giving Up
Summary: With Neil going into septic shock, Claire is desperate to try anything that might save him. Now she just has to convince Dr. Lim to do the same, and see if her gamble will pay off. Starts after the conversation about religion.
A/N: I have very little medical knowledge, so I'm skipping right over the surgical bit. This is just a short, quickly written little one shot because I just finished s3 last night, and I just cannot deal with that. I'm sure there will be more Melendaire to come though, because I desperately need them.
Idk if y’all are interested in this but figured I’d tag yall @shaunthegooddoctor @neilrnelendez . If y’all (or anyone else) want to be tagged in any future TGD fics (in which Neil will never die before he’s 80) let me know :)
WC: 1651 | Read on: AO3, FFnet

“Claire, he’s got severe sepsis,” Audrey commented, her expression beyond sad. “Even if he did recover, he’d be immunocompromised. He’d never be allowed back in an OR.”
“‘He’d be alive ,” Claire protested, desperation creeping into her voice. “Dr. Lim, are you really going to deny him a life-saving procedure just because his quality of life might decrease?”
Audrey hesitated, trying to figure out what she would do if this were any other patient. What if it was a stranger? It was too hard to imagine. What if it were Andrews? Or someone who wasn’t so deeply entrenched in her heart? But it was no good, she just couldn’t untangle her feelings for Neil.
“Please, Dr. Lim, just let me take it to Melendez and see if he wants it,” Claire pleaded. “If I talk to him…”
“No,” Audrey interjected firmly. She pulled the resident aside, to a miraculously empty patient’s room. She dropped her voice, no longer speaking as Chief of Surgery, but woman to woman. “Claire, he will do anything you ask him to, even if it’s not in his best interest. He won’t care, he’ll do what you say without batting an eye. You have to know how he feels about you.”
“I…” Claire stammered, not sure how to answer that. Being in love with your boss was awkward enough, but it was even more so when his ex-girlfriend was his boss and the one standing in front of you arguing about how to save his life.
“It’s okay,” Audrey soothed. “It doesn’t bother me. I care about him immensely, but it’s different with you. He’s different. It’s fine, I’m not in love with him. But you are, Claire, and that means you can’t be impartial about this. You’ll do anything to save him, and he’ll agree to anything to make you happy. That’s dangerous.”
“Then you talk to him about it,” Claire bargained, not giving up that easily.
“Frankly, I don’t think I’m impartial enough,” she replied, fixing Claire with a wry frown as she considered the options carefully. This was the hardest part of being Chief, putting aside your feelings to make big decisions. “Murphy just got back to the hospital. Tell him your idea and have him pitch it to Melendez. Without you in the room. If Neil consents I’ll get Andrews to do the surgery.”
Claire opened her mouth to protest, but Audrey cut her off.
“I can’t do it, Claire, I just can’t. Andrews may not be as good as me, but he’s still a damn good surgeon,” she said, attempting a joke.
Claire nodded and scurried away, on a mission to find Shaun as fast as possible. Time was of the essence, after all.
o . o . o
She sat in the chair reserved for family and friends, bouncing her leg up and down, elbows on her knees and her chin resting on her clasped hands. Waiting was agony, and she needed it to be over. She needed to know, one way or another, what was going to happen. But mostly she needed him to be alive.
Claire’s eyes flicked from his body, laying complacent on the bed, to the monitors that were beeping his vitals. Still no change. Which was good, because he wasn’t dead. But he wasn’t awake yet either.
She lost track of how long she had been sitting there, waiting for Neil to wake up. Exhausted, she was beginning to drift in and out of consciousness, not quite sleeping, but not entirely aware of the room around her either. She didn’t see his eyes flutter open, just narrow enough to see her figure sitting there, holding a vigil, the rosary she’d gotten for him tightly clasped in her fingers.
“Geez, you’d think I was dying or something,” Neil quipped, his voice barely a whisper.
Claire’s eyes snapped up, meeting his and taking in his full, conscious state. He had the ghost of a smile on his lips, and his eyes were hinting at their usual sparkle. Neil was awake, and his vitals were still good. She felt like hyperventilating and crying with happiness. He was going to be alright. She stood, hands still clasped in front of her face, tears building up in her eyes.
“Hey, come here,” he beckoned, his tone soothing.
Claire obediently crossed the little room until her thighs bumped against the hospital bed’s mattress. She wanted nothing more than to curl up next to him and rest her head on his shoulder, sob her relief into his papery gown. Neil reached for her as much as he was able, only strong enough to lift his arm a few inches from the bed, but Claire caught his hand in one of her own, sitting down softly on the edge of the bed.
“Thank you,” he croaked, his throat still raw and dry from the surgery. “Shaun told me it was your idea.”
“Thank you for doing it,” she whispered in reply. Suddenly, Claire felt overcome with guilt. Had she been selfish to insist on this procedure? He was alive but it might have changed his whole life, and not for the better. “You might not be able to operate again though.”
“I know,” Neil replied, nodding slightly, the oxygen tube bunching under his chin at the motion. “But there are worse things.”
“Yeah? Like what?” she sniffed, having trouble believing that there could be anything worse for him than a life on the sidelines.
“Like never telling your friend that you’re completely in love with her,” he said, his eyes flicking up to the ceiling as if he was asking god to give him the courage to say what he needed to. Or maybe he was just in pain, his abdomen had been carved open hours earlier, after all.
Claire tamped down any hope she felt at the statement. He had, after all, stopped her when she’d tried to tell him about her feelings earlier in the night. Why else if not to save her the embarrassment of confessing her love to someone who didn’t reciprocate? Even if it had saved his life, she was still a fool for falling in love with her boss.
“Claire?” he asked, looking at her significantly as his voice pulled her out of her thoughts. “Was ‘friend’ too vague? Should I have said ‘star resident’ instead?”
Well there was absolutely no way he was talking about Morgan.
“Me?” Her voice failed her, but it didn’t matter. He understood.
“Yeah, you,” he whispered, a shy smile appearing. “I love you, Claire.”
“Ohthankgod,” she breathed, her body relaxing a little at his words. “I love you too.”
“I know,” he answered, confident in a way that only Neil could be. “Why else would you try so hard to save me?”
It was meant to be a joke, but they both knew there was some element of truth to it. She loved him so much that she just couldn’t let him go. She smiled and snuggled in next to him, encouraged by his words and his prognosis. After that night, she just wanted to hang onto him and never let go.
“Claire?” Neil said hesitantly, brushing his nose softly against her forehead and following the touch with a gentle kiss over the same spot.
She craned her neck to look at him, smiling at him to prompt him further.
“When I get out of here, I don’t want to take things slow.” His expression was thoughtful and sincere, conveying that he meant every word he said with utter certainty. “I don’t mean physically, that’s… I’ll follow your lead, and there’s no rush there. Hell, my doctor may not clear me for much exertion for a while.”
They both grinned at the stupid joke.
“But,” he continued, “I don’t want to hide things or take it one day at a time or anything like that. Which is maybe stupid, given how many relationships I’ve killed in this hospital. But I know you’re different, Claire, and I… I just want to be with you.”
“You sound like you’re about to propose,” she teased, mostly because she wasn’t used to hearing him take that tone. Sure of what he wants, but nervous how she might react.
“If I had a ring, I might be tempted,” he replied, laughing a little. “But you can go ahead and take the spare apartment keys that are in my office, because I want you there as much as you want to be. Always, if I’m really honest.”
“That sounds nice,” Claire answered, fighting a yawn.
Despite her desire to stay awake and continue their conversation, exhaustion was finally catching up with her now that the adrenaline had worn off. She wriggled a little bit until she was lying on her side, her arm draped over his chest so that her hand could curl around the far side of his neck, and one leg resting gently on top of his. Neil slid his arm beneath her ribs, wrapping it around her waist so he could hold her tight as she dropped her head against his chest, savouring the feel of his heart beating.
“Get some sleep, Claire. I love you,” he whispered, even as she was already drifting off into a dreamland, and he pressed a kiss into her curls, breathing deeply. He was more than content holding her like that, falling back asleep with her small frame clinging to him.
Dr. Lim appeared in the doorway to check on her patient, smiling at the setup she found. Quietly, she backed away, sliding the glass door just so that the couple wouldn’t be disturbed. They’d had a long road to get to where they were, and they would have a lot of challenges ahead of them. The least she could do was give them one night of peace, where it didn’t matter that he was an attending and she was his resident.

okay i’ve now watched part 1 of the subs...literally out of all the things in this emotion-packed episode that i could be focusing on and i’m just fixated on li zhen...li zhen! babe! what is your deal? i do not understand you!!
okay so apparently she was already a cop (or in training) at the time that cwh went to jail, and apparently she had no idea that cwh was in a gang. that’s just. a) what kind of relationship do you have where one of you could have that big a secret like what on earth do you talk to each other about lol but ok ok i can suspend disbelief i CAN but also b) cwh really thought he could just disappear for some indeterminate amount of time and not tell her where he was going and she wouldn’t find out that he was in jail? when she’s a cop? and also probably that is public record?? also it seems like she already knew tgd before cwh went to jail (because cwh asked tgd not to tell her, which he presumably wouldn’t have to do if they weren’t already acquainted), and surely she would be aware that tgd is in a gang since he is the effin’ leader of xtm? so you’d think she could connect the dots on that one??
what could possibly be the point in telling cwh that she’s pregnant only to tell him in the very next sentence that she had an abortion (when she didn’t actually have an abortion)? she could have just...not told him she was pregnant to begin with...seriously this serves no purpose whatsoever unless she was just trying to hurt him, which doesn’t seem likely based on her absolute agony at the end of that scene.
and she came to visit tang yi every year? did she know what a shitty home life he had? did tang yi know his mother was alive? (that comment his adoptive father made about the cake being from his mom makes more sense with her being alive though...because i was like, how is this woman buying perishable goods from beyond the grave...)
i just. i need her to make sense to me so that i know enough about her to include her in my next tag yourself meme lol
#OBVIOUSLY i have feelings about tang yi's breakdown scene but other people have already written about it so well#so i will probably just reblog those posts for now until i have something interesting to add#history3#history 3: 圈套#history 3: trapped#history3 spoilers#chen wen hao#lee li zhen#trapped ep 17#trapped watch#trapped fan theories#my trapped posts#my posts

Seven Sentences

Not-tagged by aris-tgd over on Dreamwidth.
From the most recent chapter of that one retirement fic, which is currently 38K words and counting...
He carried Sherlock Holmes' card.
The card sent me into a frenzy of energy -- Holmes had summoned me at last! -- and I hurriedly did up my shirt and collar and pulled on a waistcoat and jacket, just barely dragging myself up to my club's standards of dress before I hurried from my room to meet Holmes in the lobby.
Holmes looked somewhat drawn and paler than usual, but was beautifully attired in a deep rich black with a soft dove-grey silk knotted at his throat, fit for a meeting with lords or ministers. I was keenly aware of my dishevelment as he evaluated me, but if he needed me to accompany him on some important interview, I could make myself presentable in only a few minutes.
"Watson," he greeted me, cool and distant, before I could volunteer my readiness for whatever service he required. "I've come to invite you to dinner and a concert, if you're not otherwise engaged."
I stopped short, abruptly feeling the fool.
Tagging anyone who would like to play -- I’m unsure who among you has non-secret works you would enjoy talking about.

So the new episodes will premiere tonight and once again I’m late on this. You should know that I know ZERO about what I’m talking about, hence I call this my ramblings. I ramble without substance. Contains The Guest and The Ghost Detective spoilers.
TG, Horror and Gore
tldr: Imbalance between the depiction of horror and the characters' conflicts. Exorcism scenes are the sole attraction that other scenes become dull. Thanks to user kech-k's tags on my last review and theories, I'm starting to realise this. After watching the latest episodes, The Guest has become boring. There I said it. It's one of the most ambitious projects that I've seen in K-dramaland (except for Descendants of the Sun, Goblin and its mainstream likes), and yet as of episode 6, it's been quite disappointing. It's as if we're watching this drama solely for the horror. Let me preface this with I'm quite familiar with OCN's dramas. With the added benefit of being on cable, they're generally more charming -- mysterious, dark, dangerous, edgy and gory to some extent, but there is always something that will keep the show going. In a previous post where I've had a back and forth about pacing, I mentioned how characters need some time to find ways to solve dilemmas (slower in pace in certain parts or the whole episode) and then the execution (the part where it makes your heart falls out). TG has been one of the most exhilarating and cathartic dramas I've watched. I've not watched many K-dramas in my time, but so far, TG has ticked the scary, gory, and mysterious boxes. Sure, it looks... pretty to the eyes. Well-shot, well-directed, well-acted, but it falls short in the writing department. I wouldn't say that it's terrible -- it has been good -- but it hasn't been engaging. The number of times I had to pause just to look at my phone out of boredom for ten minutes is insane. To write a story, a writer needs to understand the characters, or at least foresee these characters before they are materialised: their characterisation, the way they interact with other characters, their body language, their choice of words, their objective, and so forth. But what about the plot? My idea of a plot, in this case, is a story that will balance out/ties loose ends at the end of the episode or the series itself. Characters have to deal with their own issues and the conflict the face alone and/or together. I'm not saying they didn't explore this aspect because of course, they did, but the characters’ stories pale in comparison with exorcism scenes. TG has spent more time perfecting horrific scenes than paying attention to the characters' story. Yes, the story is still moving at varied paces, but you barely see how the main characters evolve but feel hostile towards each other. It's understandable why Kilyoung hates Yoon/Mateo and Hwapyung albeit working with them. It's understandable why both Yoon and Hwapyung have the desire to track Park Ildo and reluctantly agreed to band together to find it. There isn't a real connection between our trio and with themselves, but their common goal. What TG needs are more scenes that make us empathise them, for example, Hwapyung and Kilyoung's lunch scenes, Hwapyung's relationship with Yook Gwang, and Kilyoung's reminisce of her mother. These scenes ground our trio, making them livelier characters than their overt and hostile (flat) selves. Yes, it's a scary drama, and they've done so well with it, but exploring the characters gives depth and balance to it. It's just as relevant as exorcising a demon. TGD, for instance, though fluffier, we get to see the characters interact, reciprocate, and try to understand each other. We see a balance of horrifying things that happen: murdering without remorse, manipulation. Each character has at least one thing they have to deal with, and they address it many times to reinforce it. 1. Dail wants to help Yeowool to avenge for their loved ones' deaths and struggles with limited abilities. 2. Yeowool desperately wants to avenge for her sister's death. 3. Sangseob assists them with gaining leads, but he has lost his best friend and business partner. 4. Chaewon supports them with the supernatural aspect of the case, but she has a dark history and holds many secrets about herself. 5. Jungdae, as a person in the police force, is in disbelief of Yeowool's antics but wants to help Yeowool though he doesn't understand it and it goes against his morals as a policeman. 6. Common objective: defeat Hye since she terrorises everyone. 7. Hye's past and she's vengeful of what happened to her.
These are what our Korean Scoobies (I'm a BtVS fan and noticed some similarities between the two shows, so leave me alone!) face. These conflicts highlight their weaknesses and have allowed the characters to grow, and we learn alongside them. It gives the characters depth, and none of them is 'flat'. There is a balance between the horrors, the investigation and the 'normal' interaction between TGD characters, hence the characters appear to be livelier. I'm not quite sure if it's too early to say anything because I'm aware we're only 6 episodes in for TG and we have ten more episodes to watch. Maybe they’ll improve and we’re just warming up. But if TG continues to focus on the exorcism (which takes nearly half of the episode, including build-ups), it's just going to be a horror drama and nothing else. Let's hope it improves in this department.
Is Chaewon the most Mysterious character in TGD? We know how eccentric Chaewon is, and within the first second of her appearance, she instantly became the character that we all fell in love with but do have many questions about. We've managed to gather that Chaewon is a psychic who’s great at her job as a coroner, and she happens to be a former shaman. She gave up shamanism and stopped seeing ghosts at fifteen. At this point in the story, we've learned that she could see Dail's silhouette and feel him. She had the experience of being possessed, and at the same time, was being used by another shaman. Due to her past involvement with shamanism, she has extensive knowledge about ghosts and is Dail and Yeowool's textbook on the matter. But in the latest episode where she was tasked to discover about Hye's condition, she apparently could see and speak to the ghost grandpa. So, can she see ghosts or can she not see ghosts? I've replied to a thread on Reddit as u/hngryforramen regarding this:
1. She’s not telling the Korean Scoobies the truth about herself 2. She probably is able to see ghost grandpa because they’re blood-related (this is a bit flawed since anyone can be called grandpa) 3. Rookie ghosts like Dail aren’t able to manifest themselves for her to be able to see them 4. She is the one who has the power to choose who she wants to see (ghost grandpa told her that she had been ignoring him all these while, and she said she didn’t ignore him.) I'm personally leaning towards the first point, as I feel that Chaewon's a character who feels she has the liberty to hold on to certain things about herself and when she wishes to reveal them. If there's a word that I'd use to describe how the writer wrote her character, she's mysterious. Very mysterious. You find out more about her from an omniscient view (or her own POV, that depends on how you see it), ergo not necessarily through Dail's, Yeowool's, Jungdae's or Sangseob's eyes. (Examples: the scene when she touched the dog and the scene where she had a private conversation with Dail when they 'met' for the first time and she quickly acted as if nothing happened when Jungdae and Yeowool re-entered the crime scene.) Let's not forget the two other characters who are just as mysterious and their mysteriousness are yet to be answered (there will be some overlaps, bear with me!): Dail: I've tweeted a thread on why Attorney Baek Dahee and journo Kang Eunchong aren't part of the gang for now and why they're just allies as of episode 14. So what's Attorney Baek's and Eunchong's interest in Dail? Who is she reporting to? Remember that Attorney Baek said she wasn't the only one who's been researching about Dail for five years. Who are these people and what did Dail do that drove many people to be on his tail? Sangseob: When he was attempting to commit suicide (under Hye's influence), she said to Dail that she was 'showing' him the reason why he has to drink before going to bed. Dail via Yeowool tried to pry this information out of him but didn't force it out of him. We saw Sangseob's edginess and reluctance as he brushed it off as an addiction. Our conclusion here is he's not just a private eye, a business partner and a loving friend, but his arc involves something darker.
I'm enjoying the mysteries behind the characters, so hopefully, they'll answer these questions in coming episodes.
What the fuck is happening to Dail? (aka Evil!Dail)
In my previous review/theory post, due to his newfound powers, I speculated that our beloved good ghost guy Lee Dail will somehow turn evil and I'm dying to see him as an anti-hero. We found out that he wasn't only told twice about the oh-so-vague consequences, but thrice, and the third person to drop the consequences speech on Dail was the tunnel ghost which... at that point... was a little too late. I enjoyed that they've given special attention to the outcome of the event, especially with Dail. When I say aftermath, the keyword to remember here is the butterfly effect. It began with Yeowool going rogue, but without making her choice to go rogue, we'll not be able to see Dail choosing to learn how to touch out of desperation just to save Yeowool. Without saving Yeowool, he will not have realised his actions, especially when it potentially will contribute to his evil side. What TGD has done with the point of view so far has been incredible, with the Subway scene between Yeoowol’s POV and Sangseob’s POV, and now the extreme close-up on Dail's disbelieving eyes. I wouldn't say he didn't have any idea what he had done when he became evil the span of a couple of minutes, but probably the evilness overtook and controlled him. He had enough courage to sacrifice himself to save Yeowool, but to drive a knife into Hye was another thing. Though I wouldn't doubt that he feels be indifferent to whack it into Hye even when he's good!Dail, but the 'guilt talk' he had with Yeowool reinforces that being a little evil is necessary to carry it out. In my post, I expressed my wish to see Dail's duality, one where he's just good and righteous, and the other one to lose it all so he could kill without an ounce of remorse. I think this theory partially checks out, because a) he knew from the start what had to be done, and his evil side did the deed for him, and b) he is still aware of the impending guilt and is quick to remind Yeowool of it when she tells him that she was the one who was supposed to kill Hye. Since we've established what he's done, about the vague-ass consequences and how Dail might feel about his actions, let's talk about how his actions will affect the Korean Scoobies in later episodes. Bear in mind that the keyword here is the butterfly effect. In order to save Yeowool from being the one to murder Hye, she has left her presence all over the place -- CCTV footages, Dail's missing car, and her DNA are all over the ward -- so, that was beyond saving. Yet, he still did it. The more he meddles with his living friends' fates, the aftermath will snowball and cause even more problems, for example, Yeowool was taken into questioning regardless she drove the knife into Hye or not, and as a result of Dail 'killing' Hye, Hye's now alive and kicking and killing. (Sidenote: since it's the butterfly effect and it is proven that their actions will snowball into something far worse, both of them have lapses in judgment about what kind of action they should do to Hye. Dail wasn't just taking a bullet on Yeowool's behalf; both of them were equally convinced that they were the one responsible to end the Hye. Dail sacrificed himself to gain the power as if he's got nothing to lose, and Yeowool's impulsive decision to go rogue. This proves how effective Hye's manipulation skill is if she did lie to one of them.) But what about the consequences Dail will face? It's a given that he will have to pay the price and this possibly means that he will turn evil. But he doesn't really care, does he? Now that we've seen how his evil side plays out, he might be able to switch it on/off à la The Vampire Diaries, or there will be something to provoke the evil out of him, like Angel/Angelus in BtVS. If we're going with this, we might be able to see both Normal Ghost!Dail (in which he's indispensable as he will be the one to map out and rationalise their investigation), while Evil!Dail will be responsible to carry out the dirty jobs. So what do you think? Did any of these theories check out, or is there anything you wish that will happen/be uncovered?

And u could Say that choosing to make the sga storyline b about the mild mannered n eccentric one who's relationship regardless would b a little more reserved ....choosing to have that be dizzee is an issue but everything about this show is so deliberate anyway? Like I was genuinely surprised at how they handled mylene and Zeke's sex scene s1 bc like.... Most other Netflix shows would b more explicit but like tgd Wasn't ? Like the most exposed underage character on the show s1 was shaolin being in nothing but his bright red briefs in front of Annie n tht now in context was like...supposed to b gross?
#like in any other show id agree w the clsims about thor n dizzee mot being enough#but like.... that svene with the paint was probably one of the most intimate svenes in the show#tgd talk tag

#buildupforabreakup with melendez god bless but i still don’t like neil fucking telling audrey she needs to take some of the blame 🙄🙄
So I already knew melendaire was going to work together and have a cute moment thanks to the lovely @gilbxrt-blythe but I DIDNT FREAKIN KNOW THAT IT WOULD JUST BE THE TWO OF THEM
And yay morgan finally gets her first lead surgery but I’ve seen the promo pics and she has glassman check her out so i swear to god if my bby has carpel tunnel or arthritis imma SUE
Side note still eating while i watch so we’ll see how well this goes lmao
Wow i feel like its been freaking forever since I’ve seen melendaire one on one with each other how beautiful 😭 and I don’t think I’ve ever seen them along together in the autopsy room
My food is geting cold but IDGAF with this blessed melendaire content I’m getting omg soooo cute talking about what they wanted to be when they were little I caaaant
Claire looked impressed by melendez’s idea 👀
And who would’ve thought you guys dating while she’s your boss would affect your judgement certainly not the hr lady or anyone else god help us
Is a l*mlendez breakup finally on the horizon
Uh oh is shaun going to breakup with carly because he considers her a “distraction”
I’m glad morgan finally has someone who believes in her and showers her with compliments
But i dont like that its asshole andrews ngl
Melendez not being confident is just weird he’s second guessing EVERYTHING
Who knew sharly working themselves up to sex would be cute
Why do i feel like once i go thru the tag I’m about to see a bunch of carly hate and people being like i told you so. I get where carly is coming from she just want shaun to be happy and comfortable and tries continuously to make sure that happens and make it work but like she said shaun gives up but i don’t like the mindset either that what she does is a chore and that she wouldn’t have to go thru this with someone who is neurotypical like her and i don’t like the pressuring of shaun having sex because yes he wants too but its not just a black and white situation and I’m tooooorn
Park being so worried shaun only lasted 8 seconds before he came is too fucking much 😂
Park being encouraging to shaun is pure but I still miss jared man plz bring him back
Lmaooo the place where l*mlendez is having their fight is where claire flirted with melendez
Keep up with the #buildupforabreakup PLEAAAASE they’re trying to hide their relationship but are publically fighting and raising their voices at each other SUBTLE
I really wish it was claire giving shaun these heart to hearts the lack of shaire content is desgustang
like the writers act like they ain’t even fucking friends
Of course why can nothing ever go well for anyone so I was right and morgan has arthritis 🙃
So one of y’all are really thinking of leaving to stay together PULEAAZE yall are not that serious so heres a wild idea BREAKUP
Wow what the fuck got my hopes up for a l*mlendez breakup and melendez tells her he loves her 🙄🙄 ON THE MELENDAIRE BALCONY NOW ITS TAINTED but she didnt say it back so 👀
She realizes she just told the president of the hospital she has arthritis right like what’d she think was going to happen
Wow negligence left and right at st. bonaventures
And now lim and melendez are having a moment ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
And that scene with the leukemia doctor hit a little too close to home for me
Yes yes yes it looks like lim is gonna break up with melendez god bless 🙌🏼🙌🏼
So on one hand lim said she loves him but on the other hand she said its not enough 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Ngl tho had the an inkling this would happen because I saw on twitter that christina chang replied to the tgd writers account when they posted a “💔 l*mlendez” and said there the ones who could change their fate so i have hope they will not get back together and if they do they won’t last because neither of them can be objective and oh yeah DON’T MAKE SENSE and have no chemistry
Yay sharly is still alive and kicking
And oh no morgan bby are you still in pain 😩
Oh my god carly and shaun are air holding hands again while lying in bed
Hmm wow okay I knew claire would still be having drama because I saw the promo pics but i did not really expect this, melendaire group chat speculated on that first guy she slept with being worried him being married would come back to bite her but i did not think she would make it a pattern and not care about the consequences of sleeping with someone who’s married. Yes it takes two to tango but we all know this isn’t normal for claire to act like this and self deestructive so is this finally going to be her wakeup call or will she keep spiraling and we’ll get a cliffhanger in the mid season finale involving her and her actions/choices ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ only time will tell
Okay guys thats it long af as usual but lemme know what you thought and what you think is going to happen to claire, melendaire and l*mlendez!!! 💕💕 I’m still hoping for a freakin melendaire heart to heart oh my goddddd why hasn’t it happened yet
After watching the new new promo I def feel the #buildupforabreakup coming on between l*mlendez and a melendaire heart to heart
And Katie brought up a good point I like how shaun has the potential to be fired after one complaint and yet coyle got to keep his after SEXUALLY HARASSING MORE THEN ONE PERSON wow #consistency
On this show

TGD Anniversary Project
So… I feel like The Get Down’s fandom is starting to die out and the general feeling, from the fans to crew members who have discussed this when asked, is that there isn’t anything we can do to save it at this point. There’s this sad acceptance that it’s over and there’s nothing we can do, but it’s understandable though, because we worked hard to save the show we love.
But, the one year anniversary of The Get Down Part 1′s premiere date is next month (August 12th), so I was thinking that we could all band together one last time to celebrate The Get Down and show our appreciation towards the cast and crew. It would also serve as a reminder for Netflix that a very passionate audience for The Get Down does exist despite their insistence on pretending that we don’t, while also confronting them a little more directly about the issues we have with the way they treated the show.
Now, this is something we can do in four parts, and I’m hoping that there will be at least one option that will be doable for everyone. And I’m hoping that anyone in the fandom on Tumblr who isn’t on Twitter will consider the non-Twitter options this time around as it’ll be a good way to let your voice be heard.
Option 1: Live-Tweeting a TGD Weekend Re-Watch
This one is a Twitter specific one, but I think it’s a good one to liven up The Get Down’s Twitter hashtags, have fun and celebrate the show with other fans, and maybe even get one or more of our hashtags to trend.
We could start on Friday August 11th and end on Sunday August 13th and focus on at least getting through Part 1. It would be great if you can to tackle Part 2 as well, but that will depend on how much time you individually have set aside to do a re-watch. We won’t worry about trying to start at any specific time worldwide either just live-tweet when you have the time to do so.
Again, always use the hashtags #TheGetDown and #TGDAnniversary and tag the Netflix and The Get Down’s Twitter accounts every now and then.
Also tag cast and crew members when discussing specific scenes or expressing love for their characters, or the writing, or the acting, the music, choreography, costuming, etc. so they’ll see it and be reminded that we love and appreciate them. And @thegetdownfans on Twitter originally came up with the idea, so shout out to them!
Option 2: TGD Anniversary Fanart
In honor of the one year anniversary of the August 12th premiere date, simply post new fanart or re-post older fanart you’ve made for the show. I know a lot of fans have even made or articles of clothing and other art inspired by The Get Down, so please post that as well. Ideally, it would be best to tweet your art and use hashtags #TheGetDown and #TGDAnniversary and tag both Netflix and The Get Down’s Twitter account so it’ll show up in their mentions.
But, I also encourage you to post new art, or reblog older fanart here, or on Instagram and Facebook. Make sure to tag @netflix here like this and either link to it in a comment on their Instagram/Facebook pages, or tag them in some way so it’ll be seen.
Also, make sure to tag cast and crew on Twitter and Instagram so they can see it as well. They’ve all really loved the fanart and I know they’d love to see more, especially if it’s of their characters.
We could focus specifically on Friday August 11th and even use the hashtag #FanartFriday to increase our chances of getting this event noticed or the hashtags to trend but if you’re unable, posting your artwork whenever you have time throughout the weekend will be just fine.
Option 3: Mailing Netflix Purple Crayons/Writing Letters
This was the most popular suggestion for a TGD related object to send to Netflix, the one I would suggest for anyone who isn’t on Twitter It’s also the cheapest thing and small enough to put into an envelope. So this is what we’ll do:
1.) Get a purple crayon and an envelope
2.) Write a short note or a letter
3.) Write this address on the letter:
Netflix Corporate Headquarters
100 Winchester Circle
Los Gatos, CA 95032 USA
4.) Put the crayon, the note/letter into the envelope, then seal it up. I don’t have an envelope to demonstrate right now, but it should look like this:
5.) Put it in your mailbox with the flag up, in a public outgoing mail box or take it to a post office
Now, the note/letter can be as long as you want. If you have a lot to get off your chest, it can be several pages long. If you have any tweets or Tumblr posts you made in the past that you feel sum up your feelings, print them out and mail those. But really, it can be a single page or even a post it note or a notecard, or anything else you can come up with a hashtag like #JusticeForTheGetDown or #TheGetDownDeservesBetter written on it. However much you want to write or have time to write, just something to get the point across.
But, if you do want to write something longer and need ideas, here are some talking points based on a lot of the discussions and criticism I’ve seen here and on Twitter:
Explaining why the show and the characters resonated with you, why you believe it’s important, why it made you feel represented, etc.
Criticism for how Netflix ignored us all this time and haven’t had the courtesy to at least talk to us or issue a public statement/apology for the cancellation
Talking about all of our fan campaigns, especially ones you participated in or helped organize, the hashtags we used, etc.
Explaining why the show deserved another season or at least a finale to wrap up lose ends and emphasizing each and every unresolved plot point, the characters fates, us not knowing what’s happened to them by the 90s
Throwing out your ideas for story-lines you wanted to see the show explore to discredit any potential arguments that there wasn’t anywhere else for the show to go and that the ending was conclusive
Any and all criticism you have for the way Netflix failed to support or promote the show, ideas for what they should’ve done
Option 4: Contact Netflix Through Other Methods
Here’s their Help Center page. Call their Customer Service number or start a Live Chat to simply tell them that you love The Get Down, miss it, and wish Netflix hadn’t canceled it.
Another idea: on any and all posts from Netflix’s main Twitter, Instagram and Facebook accounts through August 11th-13th, leave a comment about how much you miss The Get Down and wish it hadn’t been canceled.
Use the hashtags #TheGetDown, #TGDAnniversary and #JusticeForTheGetDown so they’ll start to notice the tags. You can also tag them on any posts you make here (like this @netflix), and even send their Tumblr and Instagram accounts a direct message.
And that’s it.
Please, please, please, if you love The Get Down and it won’t be too time consuming, I encourage you to do one or more of these suggestions. Depending on interest and how well this goes we could potentially do something like this again in April for the anniversary of Part 2′s premiere date, but this might be the last big thing that we as a fandom can band together to do to show how much we love and appreciate The Get Down, and how much we’re going to miss it.
And who knows, if there’s any hope for the show to be revived in some way in the future (either as a TV or film continuation years later, a stage show like Baz implied or something else like a comic or book, etc.) then a big outpouring of fan love and support could help convince Netflix or whoever else might consider it one day that there’s an audience for it and that it’ll be worth it.
Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions, but for now please reblog this and share on Twitter, Instagram and everywhere else. We’ve got a little less than a month to spread the word and prepare, but I think we can do this.
Thank you for your time and good luck!

I completely agree that Aang is definitely not a manipulator, let alone close in anyway to Azula's abilities (or Sokka's, though I don't think he's much of a manipulator himself...). And I know exactly what people mean when they say they hate TGD, it has so so so many problems. But what I'm talking about is less of a manipulative aspect of Aang's character (did I use that word? I don't remember... If I did I definitely shouldn't have, it's not where I was going with it), and more of a trickster. Even that is not exactly the best word. But anyway, it does seem to me, despite BOTW, that Aang really is vary comfortable with white-lies or down right absurdly-ridiculous-no-doubt-unnecessary lies (Pippinpaddleopsicopolis anyone?), on top of his general tendency to goof around (Elephant Koi fish-riding or Omashu-mail-sliding for example), combined with what we see of Tenzin in TS's flashback, where he is an actual trickster. This is definitely a very first-season element that wanes down a bit as the season and the show progresses, a logical thing considering the shifting tone and focus on the war. But to me, it is still a big part of who Aang is, as well as his connection to Tenzin and perhaps in general to the Air Nomads (though from that same flashback we can definetly see not all Air Nomads are as down to shenanigans as Tenzin and Aang).
Regarding the finale - you are absolutely 100% right. The way the third season was written, in the final moments, it wasn't about Katara. Technically. But that's the problem. Because, at least in my opinion (thought it does seem that we are not really much in disagreement about this), the problem of the finale actually starts exactly with Azula's lighting. That is the cope-out. This is the moment where a two-season long establishing of the show's main conflict (or at least Aang's) is thrown out the window. Because that is what they tell us is the problem for two seasons. And then they just... don't talk about it anymore.
The blocking is meaningless in light of that. Not only because Aang doesn't even bother to speak about it with Pathik and just knows out of nowhere that a lighting can actually block chakras, despite that not being a possible outcome that we know about. But because it is a tool - a tool to not talk about the real issue they were weaving so intricately into the show and into Aang's journey.
And on top of that, throwing the question of killing or not in basically the last five minutes of the show, feels more like a... redirecting.... (imagine me looking for laughs here) of the original conflict. It should have been discussed long ago to have made it as meaningful as it should have been, since it is connected to Aang's conflicts. But, well, we have the show that we have...
@sirenalpha tagging you just in case
Agency and Aang’s Arc
A while ago I made a big comment regarding the debate about Aang’s final choice to spare Ozai’s life in the finale and how that fits into his character arc. I feel like this is an important issue that deserves its own post so here’s a revised version of what I said.
—-
Every time this debate is brought up I usually see the same comments; whenever people talk about Aang’s recurring running-away problem and how it influences his actions in the final battle, others claim that choosing to spare a life is not the same as running away and immediately accuse the criticizers of wanting a child in a kid’s show to kill someone. There are two fundamental misunderstandings that need to be addressed here.
First of all and most important, no one says that Aang should have killed Ozai. There is some very good, interesting and important debate on whether or not Ozai should live, whether death as a punishment is acceptable at all and if so when and how, and what specifically these character in these circumstances should do. But the issue that most of the criticism has is that this debate is never fully explored or resolved in the show but is instead magically swiped aside by two very glaring deus ex machinas that specifically come at the expanse of Aang’s arc.
Second, the whole “running away” issue is not about killing or not killing Ozai, it’s about Aang’s agency and his choices. It’s about the fact that in the end he could not overcome Ozai without the Avatar State and he could not avoid killing him without Energy Bending, both abilities he didn’t work to gain. It’s about how he got to that point in the first place and how the accumulation of his decisions throughout the show influenced the course of the final battle.
(continue after the break)
