This is the meaning of America, and Trump despises it. I do not think this is even within his personal control. He is so genuinely psychologically warped that he has never and will never agree to the most basic requirement of public office: that you quit when you lose; and that the system is more important than any individual in it.

He is not lying when he insists that he won in 2016 and 2020 by massive landslides in the popular vote. He believes it. He believes he will win by a landslide in November, and there is no empirical evidence that could convince him otherwise. If he loses the election, he will call it a massive fraud one more time, and foment violence to protest it. We know this more certainly than we know anything about Kamala Harris. He tried to leverage mob violence to disrupt our democracy once. If that was not disqualifying, nothing is. And nothing done by his opponents or enemies can justify or mitigate it."

1970s: The F-105 and Reserve 508th Tactical Fighter Group at Hill AFB

May 21, 2020

HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah --

Editor's note: This feature is part of a Hill Air Force Base 80th anniversary series. These articles will feature the base’s historical innovations and achievements, and will highlight mission platforms that have been operated and supported throughout the decades.

During the 1970s, several Hill Air Force Base tenant organizations made various changes. Formerly assigned to the 452nd Tactical Airlift Wing, the Air Force Reserve 945th Military Airlift Group was reassigned to the 301st Tactical Fighter Wing on July 1, 1972. Resulting from this reassignment, the first of 18 newly assigned F-105 Thunderchief aircraft arrived at Hill AFB on September 24, 1972, for the 945th.

Shortly thereafter, on November 27, 1972, the last C-124 Globemaster assigned to the group departed Hill AFB. A few months later, the 945th inactivated. Concurrently, the AFRES constituted the 508th Tactical Fighter Group and activated the unit at Hill AFB. The new group received the F-105 aircraft which had briefly been assigned to the 945th. Three months later, AFRES inactivated the 508th on March 25, 1973, and in its place activated Detachment 508 of the 301 TFW in order to provide the wing’s organizational structure conformity with other units in the command. Subsequent requirements, however, necessitated the reactivation of the 508th Tactical Fighter Group on October 17, 1975, at which time Detachment 508, 301 TFW, inactivated.

On October 10, 1978, AFRES activated the 405th Combat Logistics Support Squadron at Hill AFB and assigned the unit to the 508 TFG. Prior to this, on October 1, 1977, the 508th lost three of its assigned squadrons: the 7th Supply Squadron, Mobile; the 7th Maintenance Squadron, Mobile; and the 5th Augmentation Squadron, Wendover Auxiliary Field.

The AFRES inactivated the 508th Tactical Fighter Group at Hill AFB on October 1, 1982, concurrently activating the 419th Tactical Fighter Wing. Despite the fact that the 419th Fighter Wing’s 466th Tactical Fighter Squadron continued to fly the F-105 until March 1984, the 508 TFG was the last unit assigned the F-105. In June 1983, the 419th TFW, assigned the General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon, began retiring the F-105s it inherited from the 508th TFG upon the unit’s inactivation.

Shortly before beginning this process, the 466th TFS flew a 24-ship “diamonds on diamonds” formation with the F-105 as a salute to the aircraft’s many contributions. The F-105 flew and fought in the skies of Southeast Asia during the conflict in Vietnam. On February 25, 1984, F-105 combat veterans reunited at Hill AFB and conducted the final F-105 missing man formation.

During this ceremony they dedicated aircraft 62-4347, the F-105 with the most air time, as a monument to those who served with F-105s and especially those who gave their lives while doing so. The last F-105 (aircraft 62-8287, an F model) departed Hill AFB on March 10, 1984, for Chanute AFB, Illinois, where it was put on display.

Diane said on the Ellen show she had quite a few relationships that lasted "about 5 years". She also said no man she ever dated proposed to her, which is why she didn't end up married. I actually ended up finding out that Warren Beatty did in fact propose to Diane but she said no. I found on this article a reason why, which is Diane wanting to focus on her career, but I can't find the original source I read it on which didn't state a reason--just simply that Diane didn't want to marry him. I read that this happened during the filming of a movie they had together and as a result, Warren made Diane rehearse a scene (or something) again and again on purpose to take his frustration out on her. Again, don't know if this is true or not, just what I read!

There was an interview Al and Marthe Keller did together around the Bobby Deerfield days. Marthe was almost describing what kind of wedding/wedding gown she would want to wear. She was saying no pressure on marriage/kids, and the interview described Al as being quiet, awkward and not saying anything. Marthe was head over heels, swooning a whole paragraph about how amazing Al was and he said nothing. All he did was smile awkwardly. They broke up later down the line of course, and Marthe I believe kept one of his mugs he drank out of.

I learned the news from a post to her Instagram, confirmed by several friends after and then the Associated Press, announcing the tragic news that she died yesterday at the age of 47.

I think this caught most of us off guard. Dooce was one of the folks I followed in my early blogging days and was very influential to blogs in general. She wasn’t just a Mommy blogger.

It’s surprising how powerful git is. Ned has put together a great little guide for how one might cherry pick their commits.

There are so many ways to manage code changes and branches. This is one of many and worth your time to read if you’re a developer of software.

"Apel Gelar Pasukan kali ini merupakan bentuk kesiapan, bahwa TNI dan Polri siap untuk melaksanakan rangkaian kegiatan pengamanan yang akan diselenggarakan mulai tanggal 7 Mei sampai dengan selesai nanti," kata Kapolri usai memimpin Apel Gelar Pasukan di NTT, Sabtu 6 Mei 2023. Dengan sinergisitas dan soliditas yang kuat, Sigit mengungkapkan bahwa, personel TNI-Polri beserta stakeholder terkait lainnya akan melakukan pengamanan dan penjagaan mulai dari proses kedatangan delegasi hingga kegiatan utama dari event internasional tersebut. "Ada beberapa event utama dan event tambahan yang tentunya semua harus berjalan dengan aman dan lancar," ujar Sigit. Dengan adanya pengamanan yang optimal, Sigit menegaskan bahwa, hal itu akan membuat pelaksanaan KTT ASEAN berjalan dengan aman dan lancar. Dengan begitu, kata Sigit, Negara Indonesia akan menjadi harum serta disegani di kancah internasional. Bahkan, menurut Sigit, dengan berlangsungnya KTT ASEAN yang aman dan lancar, diharapkan dari kegiatan tersebut dapat menghasilkan keputusan-keputusan yang baik untuk Indonesia maupun negara lainnya. "Tentunya dengan penyelenggaraan yang sukses dan pengamanan yang baik akan membawa posisi Indonesia mencapai posisi yang tentunya disegani di kawasan internasional. Dan kita harapkan dengan penyelenggaraan dan pengamanan yang baik juga akan menghasilkan keputusan strategis untuk kawasan Asean," ucap Sigit. Lebih dalam, Sigit menekankan, TNI, Polri, BSSN, BIN dan seluruh stakeholder dari Pemerintah pusat maupun daerah. Telah memahami bahwa kunci suksesnya kegiatan itu bisa berjalan aman dan lancar, adalah komitmen untuk bersinergi dan solid dalam melakukan seluruh rangkaian pengamanan kegiatan di KTT ASEAN. "Oleh karena itu, tentunya setelah ini, kita minta dan arahkan semuanya segera membaur, bersatu dan kemudian mengenali apa yang menjadi ancaman tugas masing-masing. Dan kita siap untuk menghadapi berbagai macam ancaman, mulai dari masalah kriminalitas, kendala pada saat di rute, masalah teroris, masalah unjuk rasa dan juga persiapan kontijensi plan apabila ada hal-hal yang harus dilakukan," papar Sigit. "Tentunya ini menjadi kesepakatan bahwa TNI-Polri solid dan bersinergi serta siap untuk melaksanakan pengamanan KTT ASEAN 2023," tambah Sigit menegaskan. Di kesempatan yang sama, Panglima TNI Laksamana Yudo Margono menjelaskan bahwa, Apel Gelar Pasukan ini sekaligus memastikan bahwa seluruh personel maupun peralatan-peralatan yang ada telah siap untuk dioptimalkan dalam melakukan pengamanan KTT ASEAN. "Kita lihat bersama mereka sudah kita bagi dengan tugas di masing-masing tempat dan juga tugas masing-masing personel kita cek. Dan tentunya masih awal gelar kesiapan untuk cek kelengkapan juga. Dan nanti baru kita melaksanakan rapat lebih detail melibatkan semua stakeholder, dan juga akan melaksanakan Tactical Floor Game (TFG)," kata Yudo. Dengan dikerahkannya sekitar 12 ribu personel gabungan dari TNI, Polri dan stakeholder lainnya, Yudo menegaskan, seluruh petugas siap untuk memberikan pengamanan terbaik pada event tersebut. "Berjumlah 12 ribu personel baik TNI, Polri stakeholder terkait, BNPT, BNPB, Basarnas juga Satpol PP daerah. Semuanya kita gelar untuk mengecek dan juga kita akan detailkan tugas masing-masing satgas yang kita bagi. Dengan kesiapan semua ini kita dapat melaksanakan tugas pengamanan KTT ini dengan baik aman dan lancar. Kita antisipasi semua kemungkinan ancaman baik luar maupun dalam," tutup Yudo. NNPP protest in Abuja brazen affront on democracy – Taraba Group

More groups have continued to condemn recent protests by members of the New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP, Taraba State chapter, at the national headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja. One such recent condemnations is coming from a pro-democracy group, Taraba First Group, TFG, which described the protest as a “brazen affront on democracy” On Monday, Chieftains of the NNPP from Taraba, stormed the premises of INEC in Abuja, demanding a review of the results of the just concluded governorship election in the state. The group is also seeking the cancellation of the governorship election in Taraba. But the Taraba First Group, TFG, insists the electorates are prepared to defend their votes. TFG in a statement made available to newsmen in Jalingo by its Coordinator, Inusa Aliyu, said INEC must not allow any anti-people development with devastating outcomes. The group said the protest in Abuja is fake and a desperate attempt to upturn the people’s will. ”Why didn’t they carry out the protest in Jalingo, instead they went to Abuja.?’ “Any attempt to touch the people’s wish shall not only be roundly condemned but it shall be vehemently resisted. “Taraba State had a very transparent election with a clear winner emerging with a large margin if anything, everyone has been expecting congratulatory messages from Professor Sani Yahaya of the NNPP”. Claiming that the protesters are not from Taraba State, the group said, ”We are amused by this desperation on the part of national NNPP, as a matter of fact, we even doubt if this was sponsored by NNPP Taraba because they know the truth.” While calling on INEC to remain steadfast, the TFG also asked the NNPP to follow the laid down procedures by approaching an election petition tribunal.
