kiiinda feel like tenten's admiration of tsunade within naruto is only there cuz they wanted her to have a Strong Cool Woman to look up to and tsuande was the only one kishimoto had made up. because wanting to do medicine. seems out of character for her. plus i don't actually think tenten would relate to her all that much. tsunade is disillusioned with konoha in a very different way than tenten is and i don't think she'd be able to really connect with that.

SのK Chapter 132 - My personal thoughts

I'm glad so many people enjoyed this chapter, but for me it was pretty meh tbh. It had some great moments, but the general writing felt super rushed to me.

- So they arrived in Odiha already... I was hoping for more talk and bonding on the ship, but at least we got some talk in Odiha

- The bombs Armin mentioned will definitely be important. I hope it won't be another suicide mission, suicide missions got really repetitive at this point

- Falco finally showed more reaction to the deaths of his loved ones, was waiting for this!

- I loved the MikAnnie conversation! I think it's pretty fitting Annie doesn't want to fight and I'm glad she didn't change her mind. Of course there is a possibility she might join the fight later, but I personally hope she won't. Give her some rest

- Love Mikasa and Annie bonding!!

- The way Mikasa noticed Annie's feelings was really funny. Now we got the confirmation Annie has feelings for Armin either, there is no ship that's more canon at this point

- AruAni haters would say it's character regression of Annie, but I think it's the opposite. Annie always hid her emotions and was a loner, she'd never open up to anyone except Hitch maybe. So her allowing Armin to love her, someone she has feelings for either, is good development. It would have been different if AruAni were toxic, but it's pretty healthy imo

- F if one of them dies lmao I hope they both make it out alive

- When Mikasa said she has the scarf... Does she mean she has it somewhere in Paradis or with her right now? I'm really looking forward to the EreMika confrontation. I used to be both EreMika and JeanKasa, but not EreMika anymore since timeskip because Eren is an ass and a genocidal maniac. But I'm still fond of it and really looking forward to its closure

- Mikasa however is still delusional if she believes she can bring old Eren back. Not to mention old Eren was already a maniac. I can't blame Mikasa though, everyone would be biased in this situation

- Levi's finally talking since chapters again, I missed him! Isayama trolled himself when Levi said "I'll be forgotten if I sleep more" because he got so little screentime 😀

- Same as Pieck when she said "I have nothing to do". I love Pieck, but what's her character arc right now? I don't know and I am afraid she will die soon. But I think she will play a part in the ZeVi confrontation since she was part of rts, has nothing else to do and she was next to Levi in the plane, maybe they'll have a talk next chapter?

- I loved Pieck mentioning her death comrades, I want her to react to Porco's death more, maybe that's the closest reaction we'll get 😔

- So Yelena indeed knows where Eren is going, I thought she was bluffing

- He is aiming for the flying boats in port Salta. I wonder if those flying boats are going to have some importance - I hope. Some people could save themselves by using those planes and they have a military base there, so maybe the military will be more useful than in 130?

- I also had this crack thought: Imagine the military in port Salta decides to take their planes/airships to attack Paradis. A desperate attempt to stop the rumbling "If rumbling won't be stopped immediately, we'll attack Paradis with our planes". It would be a horrible thought, but not impossible. Paradis is totally unprotected right now and an easy target. All shifters gone and a lot of soldiers dead. This would also be a good opportunity to introduce Historia to the story again

- Lmao Yelena wanting approval of euthanasia. Of course euthanasia is not cool at all, but imo way better than genocide. Btw Zeke coming back when? Pls next chapter

- My favourite moment was probably the conversation between Reiner and Annie. I waited so long for Reiner apologising to her and I'm happy Isayama made it happen

- That AruAni goodbye wow. No words could express the same amount of emotions as this eye contact did

- Floch comeback.. Floch dead. I'm not a fan of Floch, but his death and closure was very underwhelming, rushed and one reason I didn't like this chapter so much. He was a plot device this chapter. A plot device for drama and to kill off Hanji indirectly for more drama. I expected more. In this case it would have been better if he died in the port battle or not die at all

- Engineer-kun is a hero

- Too late, rumbling is there. Reiner and Armin arguing who's gonna sacrifice themselves was a bit pathetic. They are both suicidal af. Especially my boy Reiner. I feel like he mainly did it because he still wishes to die as hero. Similar to Historia back then in the snow with Ymir and Daz. That's the main reason I want Reiner to survive this series because his wish to die got so pathetic at this point

- Reiner saying "Armin will stop Eren" started a fight between Reiner Helos and Armin Helos fans which is annoying lol. Of course I tend to Reiner Helos because Reiner is my fav, but tbh I think stopping Eren will be a group effort, so more like Alliance Helos

- Now let's talk about Hanji's sacrifice. Next to Floch's death it's the main reason this chapter was meh to me. I am biased because I loved Hanji and mourn, but imo the death was unnecessary, avoidable and only there to create some drama. I don't know if I'll ever get over it. But still: Hanji is the goat and will be very missed. Now I am afraid we'll have more unnecessary deaths for drama, I'm tired of the repetitive suicide missions

- Levi and Hanji - oh well my heart hurts. Levi yet again lost another important person, how will it effect him? Who is able to hold him back now? He is so alone. But I don't want him to die, even if he could reunite with his comrades again. Levi putting his hand on Hanji saying "Shinzou wo sasageyo" fuck. I wasn't ready for this. And I still can't accept Hanji's death 😭

- So when Erwin and the scouts appeared... Was it a vision or afterlife? Imo it was the latter because we saw Hanji's blood and more importantly we saw Keith Shadis, Hanji doesn't know he's dead. And how is afterlife far fetched if we have paths fckery and titans?

- Some people support afterlife especially because characters could reunite with dead characters again. Dead ships could become alive again. Somewhat. I understand it, but I don't like this thought process at all. Like I am a huge NejiTen fan (never accept Neji's death, it was as unnecessary as Hanj's), and of course I hope they'd reunite again once Tenten dies - but not now, Tenten shall live a long happy life first and Neji would want the same. What I mean is: I'd never wish for a character's death only for the sake of my ship

- MVP of this chaper: Hanji

- My rating: 6 out of 10 maybe? Chapter felt rushed and the deaths were poorly written imo. Other than that it was good

- What happens next chapter? I guess they will either meet Eren or Zeke. Or both? It's getting spicy from now on and I am not ready. Nobody is

NejiWeek Day 7 - Eclipse

It was a cool night. The early July heat had broken early in the day with a brief shower, a welcome reprieve after several days of sweltering humidity. It was the perfect night to lay out under the stars.

Team Gai had gathered at their training ground to watch the eclipse.

“When will it start, Gai-sensei?” asked Lee.

“Soon. You must be patient. We cannot rush nature.”

Neji watched the moon, waiting.

“Tenten!” said Gai, “Tell us all about the celestial meaning and messages for this most magical event!”

To his left, Neji heard Tenten sigh.

She was only pretending at desperation; Neji could tell. He could feel her energy vibrating and humming with excitement at the prospect of discussing the astrological aspects of the eclipse.

“Well, I’m still learning,” she admitted, “but eclipses are about change - really intense change. But some people are more sensitive to it than others. It depends on your natal chart.”

“Tenten! What does the eclipse mean for me?” asked Lee.

“Hmm. Well, Lee, this eclipse is in the sign of Capricorn, and —“

“Capricorn! That’s Gai-sensei’s sign!”

“Yes, it is.”

Neji rolled his eyes. It wasn’t that he put too much stock in the stars, but he was curious about what Tenten had to say.

“As I was saying. The last eclipse was a solar eclipse in Cancer. That was last month.”

“Last month?” Neji asked.

“I don’t remember that, Tenten,” added Lee.

“It was only visible over Suna,” said Tenten, “as I was saying, Capricorn tends to deal with matters of your career. Capricorns tend to be hard workers who are confident in their purpose and goals. Cancers tend to be very family-oriented, so, from what I’ve been reading, this eclipse will bring matters of work and family to light. Lunar eclipses also deal with conclusions, so you should look for resolution or endings instead of worrying about new situations.”

Neji frowned. Family-oriented? He was a Cancer, but… his family wasn’t exactly something he enjoyed focusing on. Tenten poked his arm, and he turned to look at her.

“Family-oriented doesn’t mean one big happy family, but it does mean your family has a large impact on your life and the decisions you make.”

Neji turned away from her and pondered his response.

“Work?!” Lee asked, “Do you think the eclipse could help with my leg?”

“It must, Lee!” Gai said.

“Then, I think I should get the surgery.”

“Wait… what?” said Tenten.

Neji looked over to Lee. Gai had sat up and was looking down at him, shining with pride and freshly shed tears.

“Lee, are you sure?” he asked, “Tsunade-sama said the chances of recovery were—“

“It doesn’t matter, Gai-sensei. Tenten said this eclipse brings about conclusions, and it is time I decided.”

“But Lee…” Tenten’s voice was quiet. “What if the conclusion is your career?”

“That’s the same conclusion if I do nothing. I want to try.”

They were quiet for a while, watching as the sun slowly slid in front of the moon. It was hard to see at first, but then the moon was no longer full.

“How long will it take, Tenten?” asked Gai.

“Maybe an hour or two?”

“And what does this even mean for my other two students?”

“Similar as with Lee, same for you too, Gai-sensei. It will bring us some family-work conclusions. Some people, like Lee, may feel it stronger than others.”

“Oh!” cried Lee, “Then surely Neji will have a very busy eclipse!”

Neji frowned.

“Why would you say that?”

“Because your birthday was just two days ago! Surely that means something!”

“The chunin exams are just a couple days away,” added Tenten. “I bet you’ll have quite the conclusion.”

“I’ll defeat Naruto and become a chunin. It’s expected.”

They fell silent again, and Tenten rolled into his vision, leaning over him.

She whispered so that only he could hear.

“But it could also be about family.” And then she was gone from his line of sight, back watching the moon.

Neji stewed on her comment as the sun crept its way across the face of the moon. If they had been alone, he might have said something sharp and unkind - something he’d regret. They hadn’t talked much about his match against Hinata. Tenten had been angry at him, and it had stung worse than Gai’s disappointment. Hiashi had been livid too and punished him accordingly. But that was expected. Tenten wasn’t supposed to get angry at him over his family; she knew too much, was too understanding. And Neji had thought they’d moved on from this topic, but she had brought it right back into focus.

The moon was a bright white crescent now, sliding through a month’s worth of phases in just over an hour.

Neji wouldn’t have minded Tenten’s anger or the ensuing fight they’d had if she didn’t have a knack for being right about these things.

The moon was visible again, full and stained red, like a sunset.

Conclusions were in the works.

Maybe it’s the ‘what could have been’s or whatever, but when you just take the series at face value, that relationship is...really icky, at least to me, and that’s putting it lightly. It’s so damn unhealthy, especially for poor Naruto. They were never even friends, Sasuke always treated him like shit, and yet...?! *throws hands at half+ of OG series and virtually all of Shippuden* IDK, man. Something’s weird there, and I don’t like it. Can’t support that. Naruto deserves better, damn it. (*casually links her Naruto AU fic where he DOES get better (in more ways than one), TYVM*)

20. Any ships (in your current fandom) which you surprised yourself by liking?

Going with Naruto again, so. Hmm... I guess maybe Kankuro/Tenten? I didn’t even know that was a ship until a friend showed me a really good fic, and I was hooked! lol.

Another might be KakaObi, but only in AUs where Obito survives the cave in and gets out with Kakashi and Rin and recovers, continuing to be the sweetheart he is instead of the ass he turned out to be in canon. Because he, too, deserved better, damn it!

Another is one I might have made up, not sure (mostly in the context of my Naruto AU, NGL), lol: Karin/Shikamaru! It makes sense and there are lots of compelling reasons when you break it down! You know, 'cause Shikamaru would need (or probs at least prefer) someone on his smarts level, and she's a genius, too, just in a different way. And once she mellows out, Karin's really cool, and (in my AU) she grows to eventually adore Naruto (actually fights to defend/protect him in the Pein arc!), and anyone who loves Naruto is good in Shikamaru's book! lol. Plus, she can tell him when he has his genius brain twisted in too many directions, tell him he's being an idiot and help him figure things out in her different way. lol. IDK, I like it!

30. What inspires you to write?

I just...love writing?? I’ve wanted to be an author since I was 8-9 years old, started writing when I was 11, and I’ve been writing ever since! I’m 27 now! I’ve had a few dry spells, ofc, but I always end up coming back! I just feel like writing is in my blood (partly because, I like to joke, my last name is the title of one of Shakespeare’s plays, haha)!

Pretty much anything can inspire me to write, though. I’ll see a pretty flower and be like “OOH, that flower could feature perfectly in this chapter in this way!” and then write 1k about that! lol. Or I could read a review of one of my new chapters and end up thinking of something I’d never considered before and then write almost 3k on that alone (looking at you, middle section of Ch 6 of my Naruto AU, lol)!

Basically, if it sparks joy, I’m gonna write something! X’D

31. What’s the nicest thing someone has ever said about your writing?

Nicest?? Hmm... I mean, I’ve had a lot of things said about my writing... Not sure I can really narrow it down? lol.

I guess the nicest things I’ve ever been told are when I make people cry (espec multiple times!) and actually feel the emotions the characters are feeling, that the characters and their development feel so real that it’s like they’re real people instead of fictional/they’re written so much better than the creator himself wrote them. (Been getting those a lot on my Naruto AU, actually. lol.)

32. Do you listen to music when you write or does music inspire you? If so, which band or genre of music does it for you?

I tend to prefer silence while I write, but sometimes, my house is loud and people keep breaking my concentration (house of 5, lots of animals, not the quietest, lol), I sometimes listen to music. I usually prefer instrumental, and then usually Naruto or Wolf’s Rain (sometimes Princess Tutu, too) instrumental tracks. The Naruto one I like best also has rain sounds mixed in, which is great because I love the sound of rain! Woo! (Here’s a link to that one if anyone else wants in on this! ;))

39. What is your greatest strength as a writer?

Emotions and getting into the nitty-gritty stuff therein. As an extremely visual, emotional writer, I’ve always been able to feel the emotions of the characters pretty much exactly how they’re feeling it in the moment and then put it on paper. I also make people cry a lot with my writing and get them to feel what the characters do, so that’s awesome! It’s always my goal to get my readers to feel things because then I feel like they’ve really connected with the story and characters I’ve written!

40. What do you struggle the most with in your writing?

Transitions are dicks. Sometimes I struggle ‘cause it’s been, like, two seconds or five hours, and I don’t know how to show that, lol. If I can, espec with the last one, I just fade to black. lol.

Also, sometimes I feel like I use the same sentence structure a lot, mostly the ‘..., but...’ format (at least lately). It’s really annoying, and I worry my readers notice and get annoyed/think I suck because of it. lol.

I don’t really read Naruto fanfic too much anymore, so like...I guess, technically, another main fandom of mine right now is Fruits Basket, so: without a doubt, @kyosohmastan ! They’re my absolute favorite Fruits Basket fanfic author! Everyone’s so in character, the writing is so sweet and feelsy, steamy when it needs to be, and I really love the writing itself - it’s just so well done and beautiful and I die happily when they post a new fic or chapter? Ahhh! Plus, they’re just so nice and talented in so many ways, we have the same opinions on certain things (like Kakeru Manabe is Too Much(TM) for us, haha, no offense to those who like him! lol.), and I just really, really feel blessed to know and read their fics! Love them so! <3

44. What ship do you feel needs more attention?

I’m not sure which ship this is talking about? Hmm... But a ship I definitely think (have always thought) needs more attention is Kirito/Lisbeth from Sword Art Online! It’s so slept on, and that is a damn fucking shame because they’re so healthy and sweet and have so much more amazing potential than they’re given credit for (way freaking more than the actual canon couple, just sayin’, no offense to anyone who likes the pairing)! I have written a good few metas (and a fanfic) on the subject (some/most of which are on my Lisbeth RP blog, actually, lol)! If anyone wants to discuss/RP/anything involving this ship, please let me know! Would love it!

45. What is your all time favourite fanfic?

I’m not sure I have a favorite fic. But one that I always come back to (all of her (mostly G1) My Little Pony fics, actually - first found them when I was, like, 12, and have kept rereading over and over through the years, haha) is A Mother in Her Eyes by LoveLikeElena on FFN. It takes place in the author’s own MLP universe, but I love said universe so much, and her takes on the characters are amazing and so sweet! I love her look at the serious subjects that follow the characters through her ongong MLP series! <3

51. Rant or Gush about one thing you love or hate in the world of fanfiction! Go!

Fanfic readers have become really, really lazy. No one reviews anymore, maybe leave a kudos here and there if you’re lucky (I have a major love-hate (more hate) relationship with kudos...), and it’s so, so, so discouraging to us writers! I wish they knew how it felt, to be honest, espec the ones you know are reading, but just...don’t comment. It’s ridiculously disheartening to work so hard on something for days, weeks, even months or years on something, only to get basically nothing in return. It’s like posting into the void, and it sucks ass. It’s part of what made me quit writing for a good few years, actually, and I’m so sad to see that it’s still a thing. I comment on everything I read because I know how it feels and how much it hurt! It hurts like hell, especially because I remember how it used to be just 6-8 years ago when everyone commented! I desperately pray the fanfic/content consuming world fixes that really soon or we might lose some really amazing writers! Please, even an emoji or keyboard smash! I don’t care, I’ll take anything (and I know I’m not the only one)! <3

Another day, another block of practice.

Baseball is the only sport Sasuke’s ever played. His brother before him had excelled in soccer, and - not wanting to be directly compared to his brother, who can do no wrong - Sasuke chose another sport. And, like Itachi, he’s excelled in his chosen game.

And now, it’s his senior year...and all he can think about this Spring is getting to the State finals and finally taking the championship cup. Because as hard as his team works, and as good as he is (alongside many of the other players), they just haven’t quite made it that far.

After all, he’s seen the recruiters for college teams hanging around the practice field, and at their games, talking with the coach. If he could get a scholarship for baseball...he’d be over the moon.

Hence why he never misses a single practice. It’s made juggling homework a bit of a hassle, but he hopes - in the end - work on both aspects will serve him well.

“Oi, Sasuke!”

Looking up from his mitt he’s been contemplating as he thinks, the Uchiha jostles as Naruto swings an arm over his shoulders. “What?”

“Ready for the game on Saturday?”

“Ready as I’ll ever be. You?”

“Duh! Hey, guess what!” Naruto takes a step back, hands curled under his chin as his eyes go starry. “Sakura agreed to come watch!”

“Did she now?” Sasuke asks boredly, flexing his glove experimentally.

“Yeah! If we win, I’m gonna ask her on a date!”

“...and?”

“Whaddaya mean, ‘and’?”

“You ask her on dates all the time,” Sasuke retorts, seeing his friend stiffen. “What makes this any different?”

“Cuz...cuz she’ll see how awesome I am! If we win, she’ll be so impressed, there’s no way she’d say no!”

“Whatever you say.” In all honesty, Sasuke would be glad for it. The day Sakura gives up trying to get him to date her, he’ll be a very happy man.

Their practice isn’t very heavy given the game the following day, so the pair shower and make to head home a bit early. On the way through, they pass the tennis courts, still occupied by students.

Glancing nonchalantly through the chain link fence, Sasuke searches for a moment before spotting her.

Sporting a matching lilac and white tank and shorts, Hinata Hyūga faces him, focused on her practice match against an upperclassmen he vaguely recognizes as some chick named Tenten. A visor sits over her brow to shade her eyes, long hair up in a high tail, bouncing slightly in anticipation for her opponent’s serve.

“Man, tennis seems like it’d be a pain, right?”

“Huh?” Glancing back to his friend, Sasuke breaks his stare.

“I mean, it’s got so much...leg work!”

“So does baseball when you’re on the field.”

“But not as consistently! Depends on where the ball goes. Here? You can’t escape the damn ball! Imagine having to bat, like...the whole game! Over and over again!”

“Guess that’s why tennis is tennis, and baseball is baseball, idiot.”

“M’just sayin’, you gotta be tough to do tennis! I mean, imagine how much more ripped Sakura would be if she played this instead of softball!”

There’s a silent hint of pride in Sasuke’s mind at the comparison. After all, he’s pretty much saying someone like Hinata is tougher than someone like Sakura.

And given that Sasuke’s been crushing on Hinata for all of high school, and detesting Sakura...that makes him very happy indeed.

But it does puzzle him a bit. Sure, Sakura’s lithe and sinewy - she’s hardly got an ounce of fat on her (which, yes, means hardly any hips or chest). Hinata, on the other hand...is so soft. She’s heavier set than Sakura despite - as Naruto says - playing what seems like a more intense sport.

Of course, that’s not all that plays into a person’s build, he supposes. And while Hinata also plays volleyball in the Fall, Sakura does that, and does swimming in the Winter.

But - personally speaking - he’d rather have a girlfriend who’s soft than one all...boney and tough.

Which only makes it all the more disappointing that Hinata happens to be rather fond of a certain blond idiot he knows.

Why the girls can’t just...swap their affections, he’ll never know. Surely everyone would be a lot happier.

The coach then calls for a break, and the players all relax. Heaving a weary sigh, Hinata takes a swig from a purple water bottle before noticing that they have an audience. Her face brightens.

And it kills him that it’s not because she sees him. It’s because of Naruto.

Crossing the court, she flashes a smile, cheeks a bit pink. “H-hey guys!”

“Hey Hinata,” Naruto greets, tone a bit awkward as always. He’s aware of the Hyūga girl’s crush, and...to put it bluntly, it makes him squirm whenever he has to talk to her.

“Hey,” Sasuke offers, trying his best to keep his own voice cool. So far - at least, from what he can tell - no one’s noticed his own bias when it comes to the awkward love square that the four teens have found themselves in.

Hinata’s fingers cling to the fence. “I h-heard you guys have a game tomorrow!”

“Yeah! Tomorrow at two!”

“Maybe...I could come watch?”

Naruto winces ever so slightly. “Uh...yeah, sure! Sakura’s gonna go, so...you guys could, like...sit together! Or something!”

At the mention of the rosette, Hinata deflates ever so slightly.

He hates it.

“Oh...o-okay!”

“What about you?”

“Eh?”

Shifting a bit, Sasuke asks again. “When’s your next tennis match?”

“Oh...um, we have away games on Tuesday. B-but then we have a home game next Saturday! You...you could come watch, if - if you want?”

“Aw man, Sakura’s got a game that day,” Naruto laments, but Sasuke knows he’s anything but disappointed. “Hey, maybe next time!”

“O-oh! Y-yeah, sure!” Hinata gives a smile, clearly forced.

“I’d go.”

Both Hinata and Naruto turn to him curiously. “You...you would?”

“Sure.”

“But Sasuke, what about Sakura’s game?” Naruto counters with a frown.

“I’ve seen her play before. Never seen a tennis match.”

Something shifts in Hinata’s expression - a mix of genuine surprise, and...something else he can’t place. “I...I would like that. No one, um...no one really comes to...to watch me play.”

“What?” Naruto frowns. “What about your dad?”

“He...he’s busy,” Hinata deflects, waving a hand.

“And your sister?”

“She, um...she’s got a lot of homework. Middle school’s a lot h-harder nowadays.”

Sasuke’s brows furrow just a hair.

“B-but, um...it would be neat to have a...a friend come watch!” Hinata smiles again, and he can tell it’s more genuine this time around. “You - you have fun at Sakura’s game, Naruto. Maybe you can catch the n-next one.”

Behind her, the coach warns their break is nearly over, and she looks over her shoulder. “Well...I better get back to it.”

“Yeah - see ya around, Hinata!” Waving, Naruto takes off at a jog.

Sasuke watches him go, not quite in such a hurry.

“Um…”

Turning back, he sees Hinata hesitate.

“You...you don’t have to go if you d-don’t want to. To my match, I-I mean. I wasn’t...trying to guilt anyone into it...”

“I do want to go.”

“You...you do?”

“Yeah, I do.”

The same shade of surprise pulls at her face.

Feeling she’s wanting an explanation, Sasuke glances aside, trying to play it off. “Like I said, never watched tennis before. But I already play baseball - kinda boring to watch softball. Besides...Naruto’s the one who likes Sakura. I don’t want to steal his thunder. He already managed to drag her to the game tomorrow.”

“Oh...y-yeah.” Her eyes turn downcast for a moment.

“...you ever consider that you deserve to use your time on someone who wants to use their time on you?”

The question makes her jump. “I...w-what?”

“Naruto. I think you and I both know he’s not interested. So why do you keep doing this to yourself?”

For a moment she looks scandalized, not expecting to be asked such a thing. “...I…” Clearly thinking over his words, she slowly goes slack with a kind of understanding.

Someone...who wants to use their time on her? Does he mean like -?

“...nevermind,” Sasuke mutters, shouldering his duffle bag. “See you at the game tomorrow.”

“B-but -?”

Looking frustrated with himself, Sasuke doesn’t answer, leaving the courts to head for home.

...he just royally screwed that up, didn’t he? He’s such an idiot -

“Sasuke!”

Startling, he turns to see Hinata jogging up behind him. “What -?”

“I...I w-wanted to say thank you.”

“...for?”

“For, um…” Hesitating, she worries her fingertips for a moment. “For...saying you’ll go to my game.” Another pause. “...for...using your time on me.”

Connecting her words to his, he stiffens, going a light shade of pink.

She watches his expression, clearly making connections of her own. “...see you tomorrow.”

“...y-yeah.” Watching her retreat to the courts, Sasuke just...blinks. Did...did she just…?

...well...one more reason to win tomorrow.

     ...I actually like this one a lot xD I was never the sporty kid in school - I was the artsy, musicky, theatery kid, haha! So a lot of this is pretty foreign to me, but...I tried, lol      Gotta love the good ol' fashioned love square of team seven + Hinata. While I'm not the biggest shipper of NaruSaku, it just sort of...makes sense when put alongside SasuHina. At least, imo - hence why I tend to use it as a foil for them! But it's not high school without some kind of relationship drama, right? (hi this is em after i read everything that i wrote and im so sorry if you didn’t want this much nonnie??? i tend to get carried away so pls ignore if you’re like “wait why are you insane” anyway lol)

if we are talking like, community theater headcanons, there are definitely a few that get almost every role every time they try out for it. sakura kills the scene as the lead for a lot of productions because she's worked her ass off, and sasuke, though reluctantly, gets a lot of the leads (no matter how often he tries out for just ensemble) because he's really talented no matter how much he hates it. rock lee is also insanely talented, and he's your typical theater kid. enthusiastic to a fault, is constantly singing and knows every musical ever made. sasuke has beaten him out of some leads a few times, and he vows to improve himself as an actor and singer every time it happens.

naruto has gotten supporting roles a few times, and much to everyone's surprise, he's a damn good singer! but naruto has a habit of trying out for a role, actually getting the role, realizing how much work it is, and then trying to back out. after all, he would rather be doing prop crew because he just likes to mess around backstage. but iruka never lets him back out and he vows to never again try out (and then he does because he loves the attention from the crowd).

don’t ask me why…but sai loves being in the shows too. he says he it’s fun to pretend to be other people and pretend to feel different emotions. don’t tell him he’s a terrible singer though.

shikamaru and choji are our prop crew managers. you can most likely find them hanging out backstage (along with naruto when he should be rehearsing) and not really super enthusiastic about the theater scene. but they are organized and get the job done and are just glad when the show is finally over.

tenten is in charge of set. and when i tell you that this is her passion. she puts her heart and soul into every production. she's creative, driven, and a great leader. she wants every production to be all out (despite iruka telling her that "this is not in the budget ten!!") and she'll make sure it happens one way or another. ("what do you mean we can't have fireworks? explosions? what about just fire? i promise it will be safe!!!")

neji is our stage manager. he's level-headed and calm and keeps a very tight ship when it comes to the week leading up to the show. to be honest, when tech week comes around, he's a little grumpy and on edge, but the show always turns out fantastic thanks to his attention to detail. sometimes he has to tangle tenten in from her crazy visions, and tenten pushes neji to think outside the box. tenten and neji are the dream team, and iruka thanks them every day for their expertise and focus.

ino yamanaka. the best damn costume designer and seamstress you've ever seen. this girl whips up the most amazing costumes for the cast, and if you get a tear in your costume during the show, she's calm cool and collected when she patches it up in the blink of an eye ("stop freaking out sakura, i've got this."). she's got an incredibly creative eye and has a vision (and don't you dare question her vision iruka).

then we have the booth. kiba and shino. kiba on sound, shino on lights. shino has his shit figured out. he's actually an amazing light designer and wants to go to college for it. kiba on the other hand...is never on the ball like he should be. iruka always has notes for him and the end of rehearsals...("mic. mic. MIC KIBA!!!" "oh damn my bad!!!")

one day, neji brings his cousin hinata to check out their new production. she actually gets along with kiba and shino up in the booth, and then asks to be trained on lights and sound! she starts helping out with productions and eventually gets introduced to everyone. theater helps her come out of her shell, and she really loves helping out with the shows when they come around.

hinata is up in the booth one day going over lighting cues, and she's humming one of the songs from the show. thinking no one is around her, she sings a little louder and is just enjoying the space to sing. then she hears a "HEY!" and she turns around with a yelp, only to find naruto who is in the booth to get fitted for his mic. "hey you're really good! you should sing!" naruto gets in her face, only for her to blush. "why don't you sing in the shows? try out next time, you're amazing!" and then naruto tells everyone that she can sing and she's mortified lmao.

oh yeah and iruka is the director :)

anyway. there's my mess of headcanons!! my college theater headcanons are different where everyone is assigned different songs lmao.

2. “This knife was meant for spreading jam, not jamming it into people’s esophagus’s!”

Temari is about to flay one of those weird white-skin-Sharingan eyed little fuckers when she hears an unholy howl, the likes of which she usually only hears across battlefields or when she does that thing with her tongue that makes her wife come undone. 

“Temari!”

Temari narrows her eyes. She’s got the creepy little fucker by the collar, and he’s kicking his legs pitifully in the air. There’s something sharp in his eyes that tells Temari he thinks he could take her but something more still telling him he’s not allowed. 

If Temari had her way, the creepy little fuck would be dead already. She has no idea how he managed to get into her house, and she doesn’t even remotely like the way he was looking at Nanami. His eyes were too cold, too curious. 

Sasori’s puppet had those eyes, and even though the man had been dead for years, Temari still didn’t like the puppet he had been turned into. His cold expression seemed to true to life for Tamara’s tastes. 

The creepy white-skinned-Sharingan-eyed little fucker had that same way about him. He was just smaller. And staring at Temari’s only daughter like she was a science experiment instead of a person. 

She had come out of the kitchen with cool slices of watermelon, a snack set out to tide Nanami over until Tenten arrived home. She was out entertaining the visiting Konoha shinobi, helping out with some sort of field trip for the children of Konoha’s orphanage. 

She had dropped the plate on the table and snatched up the nearest weapon; a spreader knife left on the table from lunch. Nanami was going through a phase of wanting to make her own sandwiches, and Temari was loathe to tell her daughter she couldn’t do anything, even if she ended up having strawberry jam and honey all over her sleeves. 

“What are you doing?” Tenten shrieks. 

Temari looks down at the kid, whose freaky red eyes don’t seem to be trying to trap her in an illusion. She’s got the dull silver knife just beneath his ear, and she’s ready to slice the damn thing off for answers if she needs to. 

“That’s a loaded question,” she mumbles in response. 

Nanami, in the way only a six year old raised by two war survivors can, looks from her mama to her mommy, then decides to ignore them both in favor of the watermelon on the table. 

“That knife was meant for spreading jam, not jamming it into people’s esophagi!”

“One,” Temari says, not even once looking at where her idiot wife is fuming in the doorway. “I’m jamming it into his ear, not into his esophagus.”

“Mama, I need help,” Nanami says, trying to level herself high enough to get to the watermelon on the top of the table. 

Tenten goes to tend to their daughter, lifting Nanami onto her hip and handing her a slice of watermelon that Temari had already gone ahead and plucked the seeds out of. 

“Two,” Temari continues, “you’re upset about me misusing a knife, but not about the stranger that broke into our home?”

Tenten narrows her eyes. Temari can feel it. 

“How long have we been married?”

Temari wants to groan. The white-skinned-Sharingan-eyed little fucker gives her a sympathetic glance. 

“Ten years.”

“Then you know how I feel about kitchenware being used as weapons when they are not weapons.”

“Are you going to yell at me about the garlic press again?”

“There was blood in it for days, Temari, for days! I couldn’t cook!”

“You could’ve used it if you weren’t being such a diva about a little blood in your food. You’ve lived in Suna for ten years and you’re still Konoha soft.”

“You wanna give our daughter a blood borne illness from some random bandit from the boonies, that’s your prerogative. I, on the other hand? Would like my child to stay healthy!”

“You know how many times I got foreign blood in my mouth as a kid?”

“That is the opposite of the point.”

“There you are, Shinichi-kun.”

The third voice draws the argument to a close, and takes Temari’s attention to the doorway. Her eyes narrow a second time. 

Yakushi Kabuto is the kind of turncoat only Konoha would let back inside its walls. She’s grateful now that Tenten chose to immigrate to Sunagakure when they were married; she’s further away from the ridiculous cesspit of excused war criminals that Konoha currently allows to take up shop in. 

He’s standing in the doorway, surrounded by a small gaggle of similarly white-skinned-Sharingan-eyed creepy looking little bastards, too pale to be anything not born and bred by Orochimaru, another white-skinned bastard that probably didn’t need the post war pardon that he got anyway.

The white-skinned-Sharingan-eyed little fucker wiggles cleanly out of Temari’s grasp, as if she had never been holding him at all. 

“Tou-san,” the boy says, darting over to the man. 

Temari has seen a lot of shit in her years of life. Yakushi Kabuto as a father is now one piece of that shit. 

“I’m very sorry to trouble you, Tenten-san, Temari-san,” Yakushi says, dropping an affectionate hand on the boy’s head. “Shinichi-kun is one of the more curious of his brothers, and he often wanders even when he knows he isn’t supposed to.”

Shinichi, the white-skinned-Sharingan-eyed little fucker, looks up at Yakushi like he hung the damn moon. 

“I made a friend, tou-san.”

“Did you?” Yakushi asks indulgently. 

“Mm!” Shinichi says, pointing at Nanami, who is demolishing a slice of watermelon where she sits in Tenten’s arms. “Her name is Nanami and these are her mothers.”

“How wonderful, Shinichi-kun,” Yakushi says, clearly rewarding the boy’s efforts. “But you shouldn’t go into other people’s homes unannounced or without permission. Temari-san almost seriously hurt you. Will you please apologize for frightening her?”

Shinichi purses his lips, but turns around and offers Temari a polite bow. 

“I am very sorry for intruding. Please forgive me.”

Temari rises to her full height, twirling the jam spreading knife between her fingers; it’s an old trick Temari picked up when she was trying to woo Tenten. 

“No problem, squirt,” she says. “Don’t do it again.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

“Good,” Temari replies. She looks up at Yakushi, and the mass of white-skinned-Sharingan-eyed brats that he’s passing off as his sons. “Get out of my house.”

Yakushi nods, still smiling in that aggravating way of his. 

“Of course, Temari-san. We’ll be on our way. Come, Shinichi-kun. Your brothers want to go see the botanical gardens.”

When Yakushi and his brood have finally disappeared from the Kazekage residence, Temari places the knife on the table and looks to where Nanami is sucking on the watermelon rind. 

“Mama, can I have another one?” she asks, words garbled around the rind in her mouth.

“Of course, sweetheart,” Tenten says. “Can you help mama first though, by bringing all the silverware together in one place?”

Nanami nods enthusiastically and tugs on her earrings. The spreader knife rattles a little bit on the table, then it, and the rest of the silverware that Nanami had touched all that morning carefully drag across the table. 

“Don’t use the baby to prove a point,” Temari says, fingers singing with Nanami’s chakra as she locks the door to their apartment in the tower.

“What’s the jam knife for, Nana-chan?” Tenten asks, nuzzling her nose against Nanami’s cheek. “Is it for cutting off people’s ears?”

“No!” Nanami shrieks, her laughter bubbly and bright. 

“Is it for stabbing people in the throat, or threatening orphan children on a field trip from their native village?”

“No, mama, it’s not!”

“Then what is the jam knife for, Nana-chan?”

Tenten leans out, looking at her daughter with an expression of exaggerated confusion on her face.

“Jam!” Nanami says. “The jam knife is for jam, mama!”

“Very good, Nana-chan,” Tenten says, picking up another piece of watermelon to give to their daughter. “I wonder if your mommy knows the same thing.”

Temari rolls her eyes and sidles up to her family, giving Tenten a firm smack pinch on the ass just to be contrary. Tenten doesn’t so much as blink at the gesture, and Temari picks up a slice of watermelon for herself, grinning at her wife and daughter.

“What are knives for, Nana-chan? Are they for cutting things?”

Nanami looks up at Temari, her big teal eyes the same shape as Tenten’s but the color of Temari’s. Her dark brown hair is pulled into two ponytails, and her cheeks are rosy from the excitement and from using her kekkei genkai. 

“Sometimes for cutting things,” she replies. 

“And sometimes for spreading things, right?” Temari asks, leading her on. 

“Uh-huh.”

“Didn’t you just say not to use the baby to prove a point,” Tenten huffs, bussing a kiss on Nanami’s cheek. 

“Unlike my wife,” Temari replies, “I’m adaptable.”

“Adaptable to hypocrisy.”

“Maybe so. I am a shinobi,” Temari replies. “Adaptability, like compromise, is key to a happy marriage,”

Tenten lifts an eyebrow, bouncing Nanami on her hip.

“Is that what Gaara tells you?”

“No,” Temari says with a toothy grin. “That’s what Lee tells him.”

It gets a laugh out of Tenten, and while she’s smiling, Temari leans in and kisses her wife, their daughter between them, still going to town on that slice of watermelon.

Here She Is: My Boruto OC Hotaru Hyuga

As most of you know, I can't draw to save my mom’s life. But hopefully, this description will help you guys kind of visualize what she would look like. Warning, this may be a doozy.

Name: Hyuga Hotaru (Hotaru Hyuga)

Age: 15-16 Years Old

Birthday: December 18

Village: Konohagakure

Family: Hiroto and Midori Hyuga are her parents. She was born into the Branch family and is a third or fourth cousin of Boruto and Himawari. (In the continuity I think of, the Hyuga stopped the practice of the Bird Cage Seal shortly after the war, since that was the main cause of the rift. Thus, she does not have one. But if they still do it, cut it out guys. It's not cool.)

Current Rank: Was recently promoted to Jonin

Age of Graduation: 12

Squad Captain: Rock Lee

Skin Tone: Fair-skinned, like most of her clan

Hair: Black, thick, shoulder length, and always appears a bit disheveled

Eye Color: She has the Byakugan, so it's the Hyuga’s trademark white-purple 

Height: 5′6 (1.67 meters)

Weight: 127 lbs (57.6 kg)

Body Type: On the slimmer side with a bit of muscle. 

Outfit of Choice: A black hoodie with elbow-length sleeves, black shin-length pants, black shinobi sandals and she wears her forehead protector on her head

Chakra Types: Fire and Earth

Most Proficient Jutsu: Taijutsu

Least Proficient Jutsu: Genjutsu

Abilities: Uses Gentle Fist and draws inspiration from Lee’s Ferocious Fist style. She can use fire-style ninjutsu, such as Fireball Jutsu, but does best as a close-range fighter. She is also able to change the nature of her chakra to fire when using Gentle Fist, but the problem is that it saps her chakra much more quickly. So it still needs to be perfected. 

While her Byakugan abilities are nothing to sniff at, they're not as powerful as, say, Hiashi or Neji’s. Though, because of Lee and Guy's method of training, she's quite tolerant to pain, has well-honed reflexes, and is overall more durable as a result.

Personality: She appears rather aloof and doesn't emote much. She is also rather sarcastic and seems to enjoy trolling others with dry remarks now and then, no matter their rank or strength (honestly, she can be a real ass when she wants to). She is also somewhat less idealistic than most of her peers, believing that some people can simply not be reformed nor change their ways, and won't mince words about it. But she's also fairly humble, selfless, and courageous, and is willing to show a softer side more easily than what some may think. She will always let you know when you did a good job.

Favorite Food: Seafood Mentaiko Pasta and Pickled Plums

Least Favorite Food: Mochi

Hobbies: She enjoys watching Film Noir movies and, surprisingly enough, likes to cook and is pretty good at it. Her dad taught her, since her mom struggles with making tea and instant ramen.

Main Relationships:

Midori and Hiroto- Hotaru has a pretty good relationship with her parents. Hiroto is rather easygoing and supportive and Midori is loving and caring. 

Hiroto, a Jonin who is in the Medical Corps, tends to worry about her eating habits when she pulls all-nighters at the Hokage building, where she mainly survives on ramen and coffee. It's not uncommon that he shows up with a lunch so he knows that she ate something healthy that day while telling her something along the lines of that she's going to crap out her intestines if she doesn't watch her diet with a fatherly smile on his face. The latter is MUCH more embarrassing than the former. 

Midori, a Chunin, after Hotaru had graduated, began taking on missions again, mainly recon. She likes to see that her family sits down and eats together whenever possible. While it's not as obvious as Shikamaru’s parents as she is generally friendlier, one notes that she is the unofficial head of the three and even Hiashi and Hanabi respect that. She dotes on her husband and daughter but that doesn't mean she won't smack Hotaru on the head for being particularly snarky and Hiroto for laughing and encouraging it. Good thing Hiroto is a medical shinobi, because it happens a lot...

Rock Lee- Hotaru has quite a bit of respect for Lee, surprisingly, and still refers to him as Lee Sensei and takes part in his milder antics. He essentially took her under his wing and gave her the same sort of training that Guy gave to him, Tenten, and Neji. Hotaru was shocked to learn that Neji used to be a bigger asshole than she ever was. She also sees Lee, in a way, as stronger than prodigies like Neji and herself since he became a great shinobi solely on taijutsu. Lee, for his part, is fond of his former student and, indeed, cried manly tears when she told him her opinion on his accomplishments. Which was and is still awkward, no matter how many times it happens.

Boruto- Boruto and Hotaru did NOT like each other at first. Hotaru was on a mission while the whole Kinshiki crisis went down. Hotaru was disgusted to hear that Boruto had cheated during the exams and gave him a bit of a hard time about it and called him ‘Squirt’. Boruto found her pretty damn irritating and felt that she could at least give him credit for helping end the attack. It came to a head when Boruto challenged her to a one-on-one match. While, due to her training regiment and experience, Hotaru clearly had the upper hand, she was actually impressed by his abilities. When it was clear that Boruto had lost, she point blank asked him:

‘Why did you feel you had to cheat in the first place?’

It wasn't long after this that the two actually began to bond with each other, with her training Boruto in taijutsu. He’s even started to call her ‘Sis’.

She still calls him ‘Squirt’ though...

Himawari- Hotaru has found herself quite fond of the kid and also trains her, though more gently since Himawari is still in the academy. Really, it's hard to not like her. Though even she's disturbed to hear that Himawari knocked out Naruto in a fit of blind rage.

The last one is with my other OC, so I’ll put that with him when I get to it.

I know that it's a long read, but I hope it wasn't too tortuous.
