to me the idea that rose becomes too "defined" by the doctor in season two and "becomes just a love interest" is really mind boggling because in order to say this, people have to ignore half of ten and rose's development as characters. the tenth doctor and rose complete each other. yes, she becomes more like him but he also becomes like much more her. they meet in the middle and find that balance together, which is textual and russell wrote their relationship this way on purpose. they are two halves of a whole and this innate connection that they have is why they are able to beat the devil, why they are able to achieve the impossible together. their emotional connection is beyond words.

nine regenerated out of love for rose and for humanity so ten is essentially the most human-like doctor because of this. ten picked up rose's accent, instead of pushing away domestics like nine did the first thing he does is spend christmas with rose and her mum and later calls them his family after losing them both.

to say that the doctor and rose's relationship lacked emotional intimacy is just blatantly untrue but it's even more untrue to say that tenrose shippers see rose as an "extension" of the doctor, when in reality pretty much every tenrose shipper i have ever met sees ten as an extension of rose because of how deeply his character is influenced by her and how that affects everything about him and his arc until the very end.

Disproportionate whump and H/C.

As probably gathered, I'm a chronic whumper—I tend to stick to fics that involve at least a little whump or hurt/comfort. 🔪🩸

That said, one of my biggest pet peeves is when there's a glaring imbalance in the Hurt/Comfort dynamic. You know ... the Doctor gets a minor ouchie, and then the fic dedicates chapters to the trauma of this tiny ouchie. Suddenly, the Doctor's plagued by nightmares, Rose/Jack/whoever has to coddle him through this life-altering experience, and it's all treated as if the Doctor's Universe has been destroyed. Look, I love emotional drama, but save the deep dives for when the hurt is at least slightly proportional.

On the flip side, I'm all in for fics where the hurt has serious emotional or physical consequences, and the comfort is equal to it. Gimme complex feelings, enduring scars, and a steady buildup of trust and healing, and pleeease not overly saccharine.

Jack Harkness doesn't want sex with the Doctor—and would probably say no if the Doctor offered.

Jack absolutely adores the Doctor. He flirts, teases, and winds him up—it's part of who he is—and he also means every word. But I firmly believe their relationship is entirely platonic. Jack's love for the Doctor isn't about physical intimacy; it's far greater, rarer, and purer than that. He respects the Doctor too much to risk reducing their bond to something as frivolous as sex. If the opportunity for more arose, I think Jack would hesitate—panic—afraid of ruining their connection or hurting the Doctor in ways he couldn't repair.

I write a frankly ridiculous number of TenRose fics exploring the intimacy and changing relationship between Ten and Rose, with Jack as the stabilising anchor—the one who loves the Doctor so deeply that he's incapable of jealousy or malice; Jack just wants to see him happy. That's it.

As an Ace, I love using Jack to challenge the idea that love must equal sex. It demonstrates that even the horniest guy in the Whoniverse can be the perfect example of someone who loves irrevocably and intensely without ever needing physicality to prove it. Jack's love for the Doctor is vast, selfless, and profoundly human in a way that transcends every cliché about him, and in turn, I also hope transcends every cliché we humans have about relationships, too.

I have to say that after taking a look at the Doctor Who fandom, I am quite shocked at this insistence of some people in wanting to absolutely specify that Tentoo is in fact a clone of the Doctor ?!

We have seen clones in this series and clearly Tentoo is not one of them. So, what is this insistence on contradicting the canon ? Tentoo is simply the doctor.

Our doctor himself doesn't even seem to dissociate himself from Tentoo ! He recognizes it as him.

That's all. It comes from the regeneration energy itself and from the hand of our doctor. It's not a clone ! Having already seen them in this universe should tell you this simple fact.

In the words of David Tenant : "It's the same guy." Yes, I know he also says "But clearly he's not.", but that's probably in the sense that he's no longer our doctor. Same guy, but separated after the regeneration in different bodies, including one human, which offers them different opportunities. Once again, the only notable difference is that he's human, influencing his decisions after regeneration. Even if the regeneration itself naturally involves some minimal changes at Tentoo : The fact of being a little more like Nine, logical, since regenerated in the middle of the war after being shot and dying. Plus a few expressions from Donna, as he always takes from his companions after regeneration. But apart from a few minor changes, he remains the doctor. He is the Tenth Doctor who evolved in another direction after the regeneration that made him human. As simple as that. I mean... Have you seen how David Tennant plays him ? He doesn't play a new doctor with a new personality. No. He simply plays his character, as he always has.

I can't understand people who accept the very essential concept of Doctor Who as that what makes the Doctor are his memories and experiences (the very essence of an individual according to the universe itself), and not his body or his personality ! By the fact what makes Tentoo less of a doctor than everyone else outside of the first Ten ?!

Yes. This situation is sad for our doctor, the first ten, who will be forced to move on in relation to Rose. (His final moments of just him with Rose being their reunion hug, when they briefly teasingly discuss Rose building the canon to come back, and when they hold hands facing Davros.) But it's a scenario that makes sense with the writing of the series. It was that or Rose ends up unhappy, or worse, dies. It's the ultimate way to have a happy ending despite the inevitable tragedy for Rose and the Doctor's relationship. We have the right to a tragic and happy ending at the same time. Can you imagine how crazy and unique this is in Doctor Who ?!

And beyond that, I don't see why Tentoo should be denied. He is a living being who remains the same man with the same desires. Except that he can achieve them unlike his counterpart. Again, it's tragic, but it's also happy. Somehow, even if Ten had to die/regenerate to evolve and mourn who he was, a version of himself, in a parallel universe, was able to survive and obtain everything he always wanted. It is particularly moving. Whether directly or symbolically, especially in the context of the romance with Rose. It is literally his love for Rose, and his desire to be human, which also came from Rose when she renewed her love for the human race, that he prevented regeneration and caused by an incredible chance his biological metacrisis ! But I won't go into it because others have done it much better than me. The only thing I will say about it in this post is that it is objectively one of the best romances ever written. (Let's forget the episode with Madame de Pompadour...)

I feel like rambling about my top 4 fav ships lol, I suppose they count as comfort ships haha (they do, they really do)

To start off, this ramble is a multifandom ramble, the ships are namelessshipping (pokemon), makoharu (persona 5), ninerose/tenrose (doctor who), and souyo (persona 4)

I just feel like rambling and I haven't posted my own content/rambles on this acc in awhile

I wanna ramble about headcanons that most of my friends know for at least namelessshipping, and add to hcs for the other ships

Red x Blue Oak (namelessshipping) from pkmn, they get married early at age 19 lol, they're 24 currently in my hcs and run/own the Battle Tree in Alola, they DID go on a honeymoon in Alola, but that was a couple years before they decided to move there and start the Battle Tree (I changed up the timeline in the sumo/usum games a bit lol)- both of them are gay and transmasc (both using he/him), Red took Blue's last name, his old last name was 'Shade' lmao (I have SOOOOOOOOOO many hcs for them but I'll save those for other days) (I have more hcs for all of these ships tbh but like yeah, saving my typing for now, mostly) audghshsh okay fine some more, they love cuddling, Red usually shows affection through actions (he's selectively mute in my hcs) and Blue loves it- Red is actually just slightly more clingy than Blue, tho, even tho they tease each other and Blue acts snarky and Red quietly confident during the day, at home they're affectionate and love to cuddle at the end of the night in each other's armssssss AUGHHDHDHHSHSHSHSHSH sorry the idea of them cuddling has comforted me SOOOOO much, haha it's a bit funny but it really does, they're my top ship ever (tho I support other ***SAFE*** ships) and yeah, ahdghdhdhs

Makoto Niijima x Haru Okumura (MakoHaru) from persona 5/persona 5 royal- Makoto is transfem (using she/her), and is bi and demisexual, Haru is a demigirl (using she/they), and a lesbian- they get together after the events of specifically third semester in p5 royal happen, Haru asks Makoto out on a date lol, Makoto is shocked cause she was growing feelings for Haru and was worried she wouldn't give her a chance, but yeah, they start dating- they combine their last names methinks, also Sae approves of Haru right away LMAO, since Makoto (when home for university holidays) brings Haru over all the time

The 9th/10th doctor x Rose Tyler (ninerose/tenrose) from modern doctor who- ohhhhhdggdhs my god, they make me soooo happy, yes I know it's a bit cliche to like the first (modern) companion from Dr who with the doc but like??? Their story is soooo tragic- and we don't leave out the ninth doc in this place, he is so silly and funny and it's great to see his development as Rose shows him how to be a bit happier again, and then regenerating into a younger looking person for her- yes I don't mind other doctor ships I just have a huge soft spot for Rose w the doc- I like to think the Doc (any regeneration) uses no labels lol, he uses any pronouns "what ya think, today!" and Rose is soooo pansexual (cis and uses she/her, btw)- I also give the Doc (any regen) different looking eyes and teeth (fangs hehehe) to make her look diff from humans a lil bit, secretly

And lastly, Yu Narukami x Yosuke Hanamura (SouYo) from persona 4/persona 4 golden- just finished p4 golden like last week and I immediately got attached/hyperfixated (I have adhd lol) on these two- most recent comfort ship of mine for sure, even tho I enjoy other ships ofc! I just tend to get favourites from games/shows/etc. Anyways Yu is transmasc (he/him), and Yosuke is cis (he/him), both are gay lol- Yosuke definitely must have some typa internalized homophobia- that or I think he projected his worried feelings onto Kanji (don't worry, he very much apologizes to Kanji eventually)- idk how Yu and Yosuke got together yet tbh, maybe after the golden and arena ultimax (I just started playing it) events? I also hc that uh, Yu's parents passed away somehow (idk how yet for sure) and he moved back to Inaba for senior year permanently, and like yeah, sometime within there is when him and Yosuke get together- either I wanna make it sweet or angsty before they get together lol, dunno yet but yeah, gay ppl

Now I know why I prefer Ninerose to Tenrose. And why Donna was better for Ten than Rose.

With Nine, Rose was more relatable, more human. Something the Doctor needed to stop him from doing something terrible. And given Nine was still recovering from the loss of his planet, Rose’s humanity was important.

Once Ten comes in, though, Rose became too much like him. Even JACKIE noticed in Army of Ghosts and that poses a problem. Cuz it means, with Rose essentially having become a female version of the Doctor, that human influence is gone. Kaput.

Can you imagine if Rose had been there with Ten while dealing with the Racnoss in The Runaway Bride? Rose definitely wouldn’t have stopped him from exterminating the children, for she had become too much like him. With Nine, she probably would’ve but not S2 Rose.

In fact, the same thing happens with Clara in Series 9, where she essentially becomes a female Doctor, which is what led to her tragic fate in Face the Raven.

The Doctor needs a human companion with their humanity intact to stop him when he’s about to go too far.

Rose Tyler lost her humanity with S2 and therefore she no longer fit the bill and needed to go. Even though she had no choice, it was for the best.

No matter how much time would pass, Rose would always be a little amazed over the differences between her and her—well, the Doctor. Outwardly they may appear the same species but there were quite a lot of things that they didn’t share. The main thing, besides his ability to regenerate, was definitely his two hearts. She could barely deal with the one and she wasn’t sure she could deal with another on top of it. 

She caressed his face gently and he leaned into her touch instinctively in his sleep. His face softened further until the barest hint of a smile graced his face. He didn’t need to sleep as much as a human did but occasionally after a trying adventure, he would succumb to it and she would allow herself a moment to take in the sight of him so calm and still. The first time she had seen him in such a state in this body had worried her deeply. It had terrified her, actually, but so much had been going through her mind during that time and all of her thoughts had been tinged by confusion. Now, there were none of those turbulent emotions, just a deep fondness. 

However, fondness wasn’t quite the right emotion. It wasn’t a strong enough word to describe what she felt for him. One day she would be brave enough to admit it to herself and then to him but for now they would continue to exist how they were despite the palpable tension between them. She could be patient for him, to a degree. 

Her hand slipped from his cheek down to his neck, her fingers lingering for a second at his pulse point, and then to the middle of his chest. She let herself focus on the feeling beneath her touch. She knew the beat of his hearts better than she knew the one of her own. She wished for a moment that his chest was bare so she could admire his cool skin along with her favorite sensation. Not for other reasons, of course; her intentions were completely innocent but for just this once.

It was a subtle thing, the beat of his hearts; faint but undeniably there. He was so very alive—in ways she could never comprehend but this—him—she knew well. While he was an expert in so many things, she was an expert on all things him, or so she liked to believe. She had spent so many hours, minutes, seconds, days, months, years cataloging every single one of his expressions, reactions, moods, words, his freckles, even, and everything in between. She couldn’t remember a single thing she learned while in school but every single smile he had ever given her was embedded in her mind, along with everything else about him. 

Never before had she felt this way and she knew she never would again. She was okay with that, more than because it was worth it—he was worth it. She’d tell him one day but her actions would have to be enough until then. Still, it was always there, what it was she felt for him, a myriad of emotions he evoked in her. It was the same for him, she knew, but they were both cowards unwilling to change the status quo and acknowledge what was so clearly between them. 

It would have to be enough.

Reluctantly, she pulled her hand away from him and clasped it with her other one, unwilling to trust her traitorous mind when she was so exhausted. 

“Sweet dreams, my Doctor.” She murmured, pressing the slightest of kisses to his temple. A thought lingering in her mind just for him like it always was. 

Rose stood up and left the library as quietly as she could, missing the way the Doctor’s eyes snapped open to stare at her retreating form, his hand rising to the spot her own had just been at. He could still feel the heat of her palm there, ever so slightly. 

“Sweet dreams, my Rose.” He whispered back when she was already long gone, the same thought floating around in his mind.

Oh, they knew, and what fools they were.

Today, I celebrate the first time I see "Doomsday", the 13th August 2023. This day, I cried, my heart broken by the separation of Tenrose and how this ending is genuinely conceive to reflect all the tragedy of the moment. But they have more. This day, I knew Doctor Who was going to be a important part of my teenager life in a lot of aspects. I discovered new stories, characters, actors, other series and more. It inspired me in my artistic progression, experimenting and create new things, like simply draw humans. Thing I haven't done before. I have the chance to share this passion with all my family, can talk about it every day, cry, laugh... Doctor Who opened so much things to me. Too much to write all here, in a simple text.

honest question but like why does it annoy you so much that people are anti nine/rose or tentoo/rose? like I'm just curious. some people just don't like the way rose's story ended or don't ship ninerose. why do they bother you so much?

because doctor/rose is my most... not saying i ship them more than mulder and scully but their relationship means a great amount to me in a way that others don't because their writing from beginning to end is all so intentional and well written that i don't think it's fair to only ship tenrose and completely disregard what makes their relationship what it is.

tenrose only works because they fell in love in s1, because he died loving her and was born out of his love for her and humanity, seperating that from ten leads to a complete misunderstanding of his character, his need to be human and his relationship with rose which leads to people disliking tentoorose. it's all connected, it's a cohesive story with a beginning a middle and an end.

people hating tentoorose frustrates me because it was a long planned ending, one that is foreshadowed the entire time and that makes the most sense for their relationship while also driving in the core message of doctor who- that being human is a gift.

i don't like people picking and choosing parts of rose or their relationship to justify, frankly, incorrect readings of their relationship. we see rose say the traveling doesn't matter, we see her be excited at the prospect of settling down with him, we see her beg him not to regenerate. yet tentoorose antis act like their ending is something out of the blue when it's not. they take the power and happiness away from her when rtd intentionally shifted the je scene to give her all the control and choose tentoo. which is important because it's rare in media, especially with mortal/immortal ships for the man to become human and for the narrative to be as deeply kind to them as it was to rose. where she gets everything she wanted: her parents, a larger purpose defending the earth and to grow old with the doctor. all of those things are really special because usually it's the other way around. usually it's bella becomes a vampire, etc.

i don't like how people characterize rose as someone who would throw tentoo aside and treat him like shit, because this is the same character who showed compassion to a dalek. she is not a cold or cruel person to anyone. this is the same person who could not seperate au pete from her dad.

and like, of course people can do whatever they want on their blogs, but people cross tag this stuff, they put anti tentoorose fics in the tentoorose tag, etc. and that is incredibly annoying to see. which leads to the venting! i never hijack posts, leave mean reviews on fics that i think are ooc or anything but i have to express my feelings somewhere lol

i think part of why some people who ship future doctors with other characters sometimes try to diminish tenrose and ninerose is because they feel threatened by her and by the feelings the doctor had for rose, which leads to them bashing rose and trying to convince themselves that the doctor never loved rose at all, when that is objectively not true. he was canonically in love with her.

now, do i think he is canonically still in love with her? no. the show has not shown us that. and that's fine. it does not diminish what he and rose had, and she would want them to move on, as she has too.

so why do people feel threatened by rose, when she is in another universe with tentoo? it's exactly that. it's the knowledge that with rose the doctor was finished. he loved rose so much that he, in another life, has become human and is living a life day after day with her. that he walked away from the tardis, from all his friends, from his entire world and species without a single complaint because he wants to spend a single human lifespan with rose. and if this is true for tentoo, it was also true for ten. i think deep down this reality makes some people feel envious that the doctor doesn't ever feel that same connection again.

does they fall in love again? yes. is it the same? is it the desire to be human? the need to be finished? is it i don't want to go? no. never. that specific love died with ten and lives on with tentoo. does that make the love the doctor has felt after rose less valid? NO. it's just different and that's fine. but people hate that rose got to spend her life with the doctor. more so, they hate that the doctor gets to spend his with her, and they hate that if it had been up to ten, there would be no doctor's after him- and if there are no doctors after him then there are no other romances. they hate that he loved her that damn much in the first place.

Not sure if that's the kind of prompt you're looking for but I've been thinking about that lately and how yes Rose gets her perfect domestic happy ending but I think it would be hard for her because he's different and hard for him because he has to get used to being human

The ride back was tense.

Not so much because she didn’t want him there, but more so because he wasn’t supposed to be there.

It had been a rough twenty four hours for Rose Tyler. Between the dimension hop, finding her Doctor, almost losing her Doctor, saving the multiverse, and being left on that fucking beach again, it wasn’t what she expected to happen.

But now she’s here, in a zeppelin, with the Doctor. He’s holding her hand, his thumb absentmindedly drawing circles on her hand. His language, she thought. Though she had no idea what he was writing. His distant state out the window was off-putting. The man who never stopped talking seemed to be at a loss for words.

“Hey, what’s going on in that head of yours?” She didn’t ask very loudly, but it was enough to snap him out of his thoughts and bring his attention to her. In reality, he still had a Time Lord brain. But he couldn’t stop thinking. About how he was human now, with one heart and one life. About how Rose was stuck with him, in a universe that she shouldn’t have to be in in the first place. About whether Rose still wanted him, the clone who committed genocide and was banished here. So many thoughts, none of which could be shared. At least, not yet.

New new Doctor. He felt like him, but he felt, well, different. Like someone added a piece to the puzzle that fit but didn’t seem like to belonged to that set. It had to have been that little bit of Donna that had made its way in during the metacrisis.

He hoped Rose would still love him as much as he loved her. As much as she loved the Time Lord Doctor.

His face was tense, in a very human type of way, Rose noticed. He was still the Doctor though, with those soulful eyes and freckles that looked like constellations. “Doctor, whatever happens, we’re going to be okay.”

He smiled, his first proper smile since the beach. “So I’m still the Doctor then?”

Her smile matched his. How could it not?

“No arguments from me.”

now that the three specials are over, i got a bit nostalgic and watched some eps from season 4, but then i just decided to do a whole rewatch of classic rtd.

i just finished the girl in the fireplace, and i know its been said before but wowzers it really is modfat's prototype for the doctor/amy/river era, huh.

i havent watched it since the first time which would have been in 2010, and even then i remember how struck i was by how out of character the doctor felt, and how out of place the episode feels tonally. like when the doctor realized he was stuck in france, its like he completely forgot rose and mickey were trapped on an empty space ship, didnt even spare a thought for them. and they felt like two kids he was babysitting the whole time rather than actual companions.

it made me realize that part of what makes blink and family of blood so good was that the actual doctor was barely present so he didnt have a chance to mischaracterize him lol

you're right: it's been said to DEATH and by more eloquent people than me, but looking back gitf truly was a giant red flag re: some unbearable m*ffatism (as was the library two parter lbr). which is kind of funny because, despite being a HUGE tenrose girlie, 15/16 yo me looooooved that episode back when i first watched s2. but i feel like with every single rewatch since that first one i get more and more and more annoyed by it. m*ffat hated rose and it really shows etc etc. there are still some elements of it i really enjoy (the monsters kinda fuck and the concept of them trying to fix the ship with human parts is great, as are the whole time window thing. i love when eps blend historical & futuristic. also the soundtrack SLAPS). and i do think as a tenrose supremacist there's a lot of ways to interpret it that REALLY works for their relationship: it's right after the sarah jane ep and the doctor being truly confronted with rose's mortality/having to potentially leave her/lose her like he lost sarah for maybe the first time. (at least the first time as ten??) so him bringing mickey on board and then flirting with someone else to put distance between them/hide from his feelings is something i can work with. and it also works as a condensed echo/parallel of what tenrose's romance MEANS for the doctor; a blink of an eye and she'll be dead. but i dont think that was intentional on m*ffat's part. i'm just doing the heavy lifting.

overall, there's just a bunch of moments where you're kind of going: wtf the doctor wouldn't say/do that ????? even if he wasnt in love with rose (which he IS), he'd CARE that he left her alone. i can buy him leaving to save all those french people cos he wouldn't let innocents suffer.... but he'd be UPSET he lost ROSE and THE TARDIS??? it's bullshit. but then, i hate the way m*ffat writes ten in general (dont get me started on the 50th). and tbh i STILL don't understand why madame de pompadour even ends up falling for the doctor in the first place? it's completely shallow and superficial, like most of m*ffat's romances. it's like he's always trying to write a love at first sight/fairy tale story but he doesn't give it much substance so you're left with something completely hollow. it's emotionally empty.

anyways, he was much better at writing standalone eps than showrunning (imo), but even they haven't aged as well as some others rip.

am i gonna use this to obsess the fact that both tentoo and dhawan!doctor both said "i am the doctor" despite both never measuring up to the original but rather the perception of the companion's take of the doctor with the twist of 'maybe now i will be accepted. maybe now i measure up' and doing the extremist thing the doctor themselves abhor doing while they do it with manic glee and then are crushed when the dr and companion dont see them that way? yes.

Four Ships:

Oh boy. TBH I'm not that into shipping really. I guess I have a few though.

Brainy x Nia (CW Supergirl): Definitely the beta couple of the last couple seasons of the show. I do kinda wonder how their relationship would've developed had Season 5 played out as planned (the ending of the season got kinda messed up due to COVID lockdowns, which is why the "beat Leviathan" plot got carried over to the beginning of Season 6). They got a fair amount of focus in Season 6, as they dealt with how Brainy's actions in Season 5 affected them (also they had to write Kara out for most of the season because her actress was on maternity leave, forcing them to instead focus episodes on the rest of Supergirl's team). I felt it was a strong ship, with two goofy, geeky people - one an alien genius who's not very used to having emotions period and the other a half-human, half-alien girl with dream-related powers - who both clearly like each other but don't know how to spit it out. The "Prom!" two-parter, where they go back in time to get DNA to help track down Kara, had them try to fit in in late-90s small town America, which was hilarious. Also, in general, even with all the hype over Nia being the first transgender superhero ever (she's also played by a real-life trans rights hero, Nicole Maines), aside from a little focus when she was first introduced, they haven't made it her sole defining trait, and have developed her beyond that, which I appreciate. I'm not sure their relationship had its full time to develop - towards the end it seemed doomed to fail since at some point Brainy was going to have to go back to the future time he came from. But in the finale he decided to "screw destiny" and came back for her, so they still have a chance!

Pokéshipping (Ash x Misty): From Pokémon, obviously. This is Pokémon's oldest ship and I have stood by it for years (to be fair, I haven't seen enough of the anime to justify the other Ash ships anyway). But then I'm biased, since Misty has long been a favorite character of mine from Pokémon. It's been cool seeing her come back in more recent seasons and still have a dynamic with Ash. It started with him accidentally frying her bike with Pikachu, and her tagging along to make him pay her back, but they ultimately developed a strong friendship, which I think is only rivaled by his friendship with Dawn probably. Of course, since I ship them, I wish there could be more - and there are songs showing Misty has feelings for him ("Misty's Song," "He Drives Me Crazy," "I've Got a Secret" from Pokémon Live). The second movie also teased the idea, though Misty strongly denied it. As for Ash, we have no idea how he feels. But let's be fair, he barely acknowledged Serena's feelings, and hers as far as I can tell were WAY more obvious than Misty's (Serena pretty much started traveling with Ash cause she had a crush on him). So I'm guessing he's just completely oblivious. He'd have to grow up a lot to realize how Misty feels. And now Ash's time in the anime is basically over. Though, they did leave things pretty open-ended with him, so...

Yowzah (Doctor x River Song): This is basically my main ship from Doctor Who (though I do also support Tenrose). For this ship, I usually define it as Eleven x River specifically, since they interact the most. Though their relationship is crazy complicated, their banter is always fun to see when they do meet. Because I didn't watch Doctor Who quite in order when catching up on old seasons, I actually saw their romance in basically chronological order - starting with Series 5-7 and ending with 4, where Ten meets her but she ends up dying - which somehow made it even more poignant. I did appreciate that before Steven Moffat left, he resolved their whole thing by having Twelve finally take River to Darillium (the last place River saw "her" Doctor before traveling to the Library and meeting Ten), and having Twelve come to terms with her being gone. While there are still Big Finish audios coming out to flesh out River's personal canon, I consider her timeline with The Doctor finished, and I don't expect her to show up again (although, they brought back Jack Harkness, so I guess no one's safe). I don't feel like there's any sort of future they could give them - "The Name of the Doctor" already showed River post-death. I suppose they could delve into their past still, especially if they keep the Timeless Child plotline when Russell T. Davies takes over again. I'd kinda love for River to meet the Fugitive Doctor. I feel like they would be BFFs in a heartbeat. At any rate, River is a fun character, and for now I've been indulging my interest in this ship via the Eleventh Doctor fanfic I've been working on for years (I have an idea for a ship fic with them too).

Mamoru x Hina (PGSM): So not sure this is even a ship but decided to add it anyway. When it comes to Sailor Moon, I'm typically in the Usagi x Mamoru camp pretty strongly. Especially in the manga, where their relationship really gets some deep development (it gets development in the anime too, but not in the same way I feel like). But the live-action series Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon just didn't do their relationship justice. I get that they had limited episodes to work with, but they could've done better. They also tried to make things more dramatic by revealing Mamoru was engaged, right at the point of the show when Usagi was starting to think maybe he wasn't so bad after all. And then try to twist the knife even more by making Usagi realize that "OMG this guy's girlfriend is actually NICE." Hina, meanwhile, didn't get much development beyond being the "other woman" who clearly loved Mamoru more than he did her. That she was the "childhood friend" in this scenario probably didn't help either (anyone who's watched/read enough shoujo knows that the "childhood friend" rarely wins in a love triangle). She did at least respect that Mamoru had a lost past he was trying to find clues to, and tried to be supportive as much as she could. And when Mamoru got cut off from a call with her when Kunzite attacked him, she seemed genuinely upset. (She also got upset when she found Usagi's handkerchief in Mamoru's dresser, but that's more like a "OMG are you cheating on me?" kind of upset). Ultimately she saw the writing on the wall and broke up with Mamoru. I mean, sure, if the show was going to follow the original Sailor Moon plot, Mamoru and Usagi were going to have to end up together somehow. But instead of trying to create a genuine love triangle with actual drama attached, they had Mamoru in a relationship he didn't really care about and Usagi, as much as it pained her, willing to honor that relationship. Thus they started to kinda reluctantly become just friends instead. But while it can be argued they did develop some feelings for each other eventually, their whole romance seems to be based on the fact that they loved each other in their past lives, and fate is doing its darnedest to bring them together again. Except that in the past that caused the destruction of the Earth, a fact that initially no one remembers except Sailor Venus, Zoisite, and Kunzite, which is why those three are pretty strongly against Usagi and Mamoru getting together (Beryl also tries to split them up later, either personally or through her "shadow" Mio, since the Beryl/Serenity/Endymion love triangle is also still a thing). Then they get separated since Mamoru goes to study abroad in England, and then later lets Beryl capture him to save the Shitennou, causing all this angst where Usagi tries really hard not to make the Silver Crystal activate, as this would not only make her hardcore "I don't care about anything but my prince" Princess Sailor Moon side come out, but it also inadvertently powers Queen Metallia, neither of which is good for the safety of the Earth. Even once Beryl is defeated and Usagi and Mamoru are *finally* set to get married, it's clear Mamoru is not that enthusiastic about it, which is what leads to Usagi breaking things off and Mio showing up and being like "I'M BAAACK" and kidnapping Mamoru to be her groom in her circus-inspired base. So...anyway, it's just hard for me to ship Usagi x Mamoru in PGSM for these reasons, so I lean more toward shipping Hina with Mamoru. After all, the short "Hina Afterward" made it clear that she still thought about him after they broke up.

Last Song: Not a song per se, but...the Suzume soundtrack on Spotify. It's actually quite a good soundtrack. Sadly, they didn't include the songs Serizawa plays in his car during the road trip part of the movie (probably for copyright reasons), but I found a couple Spotify playlists people made of the songs he plays: this one and this one. One of them is "Rouge no Dengon," the opening song to Kiki's Delivery Service, which I recognized immediately when I first heard it as that's my favorite Ghibli film.

Currently Reading: This translation of Virgil's The Aeneid, translated by David Ferry. It was the one recommended by Blue of the YouTube channel Overly Sarcastic Productions in his Virgil video, so I figured it had to be good. Now, being a mythology buff, I knew something about the Aeneid going into this (I also watched OSP's video covering it), but I'd never read it in verse before now. And it is actually quite good. Sure there are boring lists of people at times, and Virgil spends like 10 stanzas describing the decorations on Aeneas's shield in great detail, which I could care less about. While I definitely had to consult the list of names in the back a few times to know what stuff was, the text was otherwise quite understandable as is, which isn't easy with old texts like this as far as I can tell. Ferry does a good job making it readable but not TOO modern. Would recommend.

Last Movie: The anime movie Suzume, directed by Makoto Shinkai, who did Your Name and Weathering With You. As I mentioned in this post, it's REALLY GOOD.

Craving: I'm looking forward to the game Hogwarts Legacy. The Switch version got delayed till July and it bugs me a lot. Also, this game called Sea of Stars is finally coming out soon that I backed on Kickstarter. I've never backed a video game on there before, so that's exciting! Besides that...I bought a TON of 3DS and DS games in my pursuit to get the games I wanted before the 3DS eShop shut down a couple months ago, so looking forward to those. In the process, I found out my DS Lite can still read GBA cartridges, allowing me to replay old favorites like Kim Possible 2: Draaken's Demise and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon as well as games I missed (like all of the Gen 3 Pokémon games - if I can track them down - and Tales of Phantasia, which I just recently found out even HAD a GBA version).

As for non-gaming things...I haven't been to Disneyland in years, despite living less than 2 hours away from it. Sure, as an autistic person, theme parks can be kind of a nightmare, but I really love Disney movies. Also, I haven't been there since before the Star Wars land was completed, so I really want to go there and see that, as I'm also a big Star Wars fan.

Also I do miss doing covers on my YouTube channel, I'll admit. I'd also like to do more collabs, but the SeraMyu cover community seems kinda dead now, especially since our sort of Fearless Leader (and the one who encouraged me to join in the first place) @sailorzakuro seems to have moved on.
