Hey so, I wanted to let your know that I really love your Naruto: Dashing Rescue fic. It's one of my all times fave time travelling fic. I still have the tumblr tag followed lol it's a lil reminder to self to reread whenever I come across it in the 'followed tag' section

I don't ever if you ever confirmed that it's abandoned work or not, I was wondering if you had anything to share about naruto rescue? Maybe your thoughts while writing it or scraps. Maybe not, it's been years also

Anyways, the main purpose was that I wanted to let you know that I really love your writing and a lot of your old works (oh khr too! but esp Dashing Rescue). You were an author that made me smile whenever I see your name as a teen learning about fandoms and searching out fics. I really enjoyed reading a lot of your works!

Wow, that's really nice to hear. I'm glad that you enjoyed those fics! Looking at the dates, it's been almost 10 years since I posted that particular one... hard to believe.

Time travel has always been one of my most favorite fic tropes, and Naruto was really great for those because we had so many time periods, each with their own cast. The possibilities were endless.

For Dashing Rescue, I can see I posted three parts. I dug up my old doc, but there isn't much in it past those. I think I considered part 3 a good stopping point, though it looks like I wrote about a page of part 4 and outlined a few general ideas after that. I'll add that under the cut, in case you're curious.

Aside from that, the only thing I recall is that was using the movies for material and visual inspiration, but that part was probably obvious.

Title: Dashing Rescue

Part IV: Sand and Black Iron

Summary: AU, time travel. Finding himself in the past, Naruto has so far managed to hold back the tide of the Third Shinobi World War. That proves increasingly difficult as the Sandaime Kazekage goes missing.

“Thanks for agreeing to see us, Jiji,” Kushina said, bowing deeply in complete contradiction to her impolite way of addressing the Hokage — she had picked it up from Naruto. Next to her, Minato did the same. Both of them spared a glance at Sakumo, who was also waiting in the Hokage’s office and greeted them with a friendly nod. 

“This is about Naruto, isn’t it?” Sarutobi guessed, setting aside his brush to give them both his full attention.

It had been two years since Naruto became an official member of the Uzumaki clan, and thus Konoha. That time had been plenty for the Sandaime to start feeling like he was going grey under his hat. 

Especially after Naruto took off for Suna a few months ago and refused to come back, despite the many diplomatically worded but rather displeased messages Sarutobi received from Suna. He just hoped that whatever this was didn’t turn out to be an international incident. 

“Yeah,” Kushina said bluntly. “He, uh, sent me a message.” 

Or rather, he and Kushina had set about abusing the fact that they held two halves of a single bijuu, which could communicate with each other regardless of distance or circumstances. Kurama had been nothing resembling pleased at being used as an elaborate communication system, but agreed to relay urgent messages in exchange for Kushina changing the form of confinement she used on her half. She still had no idea how Naruto managed to sweet-talk the bijuu into it from his side. 

“The Kazekage’s disappeared,” Kushina relayed, “but Naruto thinks he has a lead, and he wants help tracking the person responsible.” He had been increasingly evasive about what exactly he knew or at least suspected, and why, but Kushina didn’t mention that. Naruto got like that sometimes. 

Still not used to these sorts of things, especially stated so baldly out of nowhere — the Kazekage, really? — Sakumo choked a little, but quickly swallowed his surprise. The Sandaime simply closed his eyes and sighed. International incident didn’t begin to cover it. 

“With the Kazekage has gone missing, it’s naturally a very urgent request,” Minato added. “I might be able to expedite the journey there, if I can be assigned to the team.” 

Kushina nodded sharply. “And I can file the mission request for him,” she offered. 

“There is no need for that,” Sarutobi said, forcing down the urge to massage the bridge of his nose. “I will offer our services to Suna as a peace gesture.” 

“Who will you send?” Sakumo asked, as he finally processed what he had heard. 

“Sakumo-sempai, perhaps you could…?” Minato suggested. After all, there was no doubt about who possessed the best tracking skills in the village.

Sakumo shook his head. “That would be a terrible idea. They hate me there,” he summed up. “I was on the Suna front during the Second War, and…” 

There was no need to continue. That was where Sakumo gained his fame — and notoriety, upon a path of corpses. He didn’t regret what he had done for Konoha’s sake, but war bred hatred in a vicious cycle. Back then, he had been the same, hating his enemies for what had been done to his comrades and paying back with the same in turn. 

“Sending me would be more like a declaration of war than a peace gesture,” Sakumo concluded.

“It would not send the correct message, and would be a complication in itself,” Sarutobi agreed. “Unfortunately, most of the others who would be my second choice are out of the village and won’t be able to return quickly enough. Do you have a recommendation, Sakumo?” 

Frowning, the man looked out the window across the village. There was more at stake than first appeared — a situation like this, involving a Kage, no less, could easily deteriorate quickly and violently. So far, they had just barely managed to avoid the outbreak of another war, but the balance was delicate at best. If Suna faltered, it wouldn’t take Iwa long to strike. And then...

On the other hand, this was Konoha’s chance to build a strong alliance with Suna. It would put the Suna council, and possibly even their Kage, in Konoha’s debt. They would be able to present a united front against Iwa, and further strengthen their position with Kumo as well. 

A chance to bury the ills of the previous war…

“Kakashi,” Sakumo said, startling the others. “I recommend Kakashi.” 

“Sakumo, are you sure?” Sarutobi asked, his brow furrowing as he sat forward and studied his old comrade. 

“I’m sure. Kakashi has been a chuunin for four years now. He lacks experience, but his skills are top notch. His nose rivals mine, he’s observant and analytical, and he can call on one of our summons to assist him,” Sakumo explained.

The pride was clear in his voice. Minato, as Kakashi’s jounin teacher, nodded in agreement, though he also still appeared surprised by the choice. 

“And… This is our chance to bury the grudges of the past. We have to take the first step. What better way to prove that we trust Suna and are serious about this alliance?” Sakumo smiled. “And I trust Minato and Naruto to keep him safe, should something go wrong.” 

“...I won’t let anything happen to him,” Minato promised, recovering first. 

Sarutobi took several moments longer to consider the suggestion. Finally, he nodded. “Very well,” he said. “Then I will dispatch Minato and Kakashi to Suna in all haste.” 

“What? I want to go too! We’ll be a four-man team then!” Kushina protested. 

While Sarutobi tried to think of some subtle way to tell her that the Kyuubi jinchuuriki wasn’t going to be allowed off into a foreign village, which could very well turn unstable at any moment, all without letting Sakumo know the situation, Minato quickly spoke up, “I don’t think I could take you that far,” he said apologetically. “Kakashi and myself will already be difficult…” 

Kushina eyed him dubiously. Even though she was one of the few who understood the theoretical underpinnings of Hiraishin, she didn’t have the experience to judge how much and how far Minato could teleport. 

Theoretically, Hiraishin’s chakra cost depended on the size and weight of what he was teleporting, though there were some specific caveats regarding distance and the placement of the seals — it all depended on how you went about it.

Kushina was right to distrust him. Minato might have still been able to manage another person, but at least this way there was a legitimate reason for her to stay in Konoha. 

But she didn’t call him out on it. “He better come home after this,” she said instead. “It’s been months.” 

Minato nodded sharply. “I’ll bring him back once we’re done.” Even if it meant a quick ambush. 

“I’ll let Naruto know you’re coming,” Kushina said, and both the young jounin took their leave. 

Left alone with Sakumo, Sarutobi shot the other man a considering look. “Are you sure about this?” he asked. “I have no doubt Minato and Naruto will protect him to the best of their ability,” and that ability was really quite impressive, “but you don’t have to risk Kakashi on this. We can send someone else.”

///////The Third World War was put off, but relations are rough, especially when the Kazekage suddenly goes missing. (Minato is eighteen, Kakashi is ten, and Naruto is twenty one.) 

Naruto knows that the true cause is Sasori. He talks to Chiyo and takes off, with Minato and Kakashi following. Chiyo suggested that Sasori would have gone to the old Rouran ruins.

Naruto asks Sakumo to make Konoha into a village that never abandons even one of its people.

the bleak primadonna au brainrot is real

I have loved your posts on characters' thoughts so far, but I haven't really seen Kakashi mentioned? How does he feel about the whole ordeal? How is he reacting to the fallout? What would he do if there was a civil war over it?

AHHHHHH, anon, thank you for validating bleak primadonna AU brainrot is real. I’m patient zero and it is wild how much I keep thinking about it, lol.

To be fair I hadn’t really considered Kakashi much in this AU until you asked. Except for the canonical “had he still been Hokage this wouldn’t have happened” type thing. But as a person also affected by the Incident and, again, living with the knowledge that he could have prevented this, there’s all that good classic Kakashi Guilt™

BECAUSE I do still stand by the idea that he would have given Shikako her justified revenge. BUT ALSO, another part of the reason for the brewing civil war is that some people think Shikako is the better Hokage candidate so there must be a part of Kakashi that is wondering what if he had chosen Shikako as his successor.

And, like, we have to imagine that when it came time for Kakashi to pass down the hat he did know that objectively Shikako is the better leader, administrator, mentor/guide, general, etc. etc. Of course as of canon DoS, Naruto is still out on his time skip training trip, but Shikako has gone full jounin with SQ’s world building of peace time jounin requirements and even before then we see the difference between Shikako taking the lead on missions versus Naruto being mission leader.

Although, again, haven’t consumed Boruto, so I don’t know if they ever explained what happens between teen Naruto to Hokage Naruto. He could still be genin ranked for all I know, although I would think that whatever powers that be that decide the next Hokage would want him to prove himself as a jounin. And while, arguably, wartime promotions are a thing (obviously child Kakashi didn’t have a civic leadership project considering his almost literal lone wolf vibe and also being a child) the whole point of a Hokage Naruto is that he wants/brought about a world of peace. Which is to say that we don’t necessarily know what Naruto will end up doing for his jounin civic leadership project or even if one is required of him, but I can’t imagine it’s more impressive/significant than the, essentially, multiple jounin civic leadership projects that Shikako has done/contributed to, etc.

All of that to say, if Kakashi were to be logical about his successor he would definitely consider/ask Shikako first—privately so as not to rub it in Naruto and Sasuke’s faces--then ask for her opinion on who it should be after she says no. Because obviously he knows about being a reluctant Hokage forced into a position he doesn’t want (he probably tried to pass down the hat even earlier, but it’s not until a certain age when his students are a more acceptable option that it becomes reasonable) and he would never want to do the same thing to his students. And of course at this point in time—post war/all threats dealt with—Shikako just wants to relax and come up with cool seals and not worry about any oncoming tragedy so she certainly doesn’t want to be Hokage. And moreover of course she wouldn’t want to steal Naruto’s dream. So she turns Kakashi down.

(And this is maybe something she thinks about, too. After everything. The hubris she had that even if she didn’t become Hokage that she could still guide/influence her friends into doing what she wanted/thought was correct. And how galling it must have been when Naruto refused her. O_O)

But back to Kakashi.

He wonders, maybe, if he should have… not MADE her take the hat per se, but been a little more convincing. Encouraged her toward it in a way that said, “Hey, I was the best option Konoha had at the time and I stepped up. I think you’re the best option Konoha has now and I want you to step up, too.” Because it’s not always about who WANTS it the most but who is BEST for the role.

(And also, for all that Naruto is arguably not great in the bleak primadonna AU, I don’t think he’d be resentful towards Shikako had she become Hokage. He would have been a little heart broken for a little bit, maybe, and always think about it wistfully, but I think he would have eventually come to terms with it and, like, re-contextualize his desire to be Hokage for what it really was (to be publicly respected and liked which he achieved before becoming Hokage anyway))

But, let’s move beyond Kakashi’s Guilt and Regrets™

If Sasuke is conflicted to the point of being neutral and staying in the village, I would want to do something different with Kakashi. In classic Kakashi fashion, he does turn the blame inwards, but he also has to never show it because now—with the exception of Gai—the only people he can be vulnerable about these types of things are his students who are at the heart of the issue (and also Sasuke who is already SO conflicted)

It’s a very fine line he is walking and I’m not sure if I’m even articulating it right, but basically I think he is a big Kako Heijo fan but also never acknowledges who Kako Heijo really is. Like, whenever possible, he goes to the midnight premieres of her movies but never reaches out to use his obvious connections to get merch or autographs or special seating or anything like that. Why would he? He’s just a fan of Kako Heijo. He has no other connection to her. Of course he never taught her, you must be confused, Kako Heijo is a civilian actress not a shinobi. Why are you being so weird. Oh, you must be thinking of my student Shikako Nara. I suppose they have similar names, but I don’t see how you’d get them confused.

Extreme denial is the way he’d go.

I also think, in order to prevent… hm… there’s probably another faction in the village who want Kakashi to be Hokage again instead. Like, a neutral faction or a faction who is also trying to prevent a civil war by seeking a third option or, like, the older generation who see both Shikako and Naruto as overdramatic upstarts because Kakashi shouldn’t have even given up the hat anyway. You keep it until you die (or are unable to fight. Actually, DOES something happen to Kakashi that would make him unable to fight? I did not read much of Shippuden.) But even if Kakashi thought it would work (it wouldn’t) I don’t think he’d want to be Hokage again. And if anything that would just be kicking the problem further down the line because he’d have to retire again eventually and his successors would still be Naruto and Shikako… and maybe Sasuke, although I feel like he’d want it even less?

Anyways… in order to prevent that, I think Kakashi really is leaning into the whole… I’m just a silly old man. Yes I used to be Hokage and one of the deadliest S-rank shinobi on the planet, but now I like to watch movies and play with my dogs, nothing to see here.

And so as not to seem one-sided in his personal but not professional support, I do think Kakashi gets closer to the Uzumaki family as, like, a strange uncle figure (which adds to Boruto’s weird double prince privilege vibe) so its not just them and the Hyuuga clan. But understandably it gets fraught when Naruto neglects his fatherly duties to be Hokage—which both Boruto and Himawari are sad about and only adds to the guilt that Kakashi points inward—and Kakashi doesn’t help him with that because 1) that’s not his job anymore, 2) he’s just a silly old man, and 3) if Kakashi helps Naruto professionally then what was the point of even passing the hat down, if he’s going to advise Naruto then he should have just kept it and maybe the Incident wouldn’t have happened and he wou—

Things get cyclical with Kakashi and his Guilt/Regret Spiraling™

When I say civil war, I don’t actually think there will be outright war and fighting. Most of the movement would be led by the ANY clans and most of that would be a peaceful secession from Konoha, possibly citing the original clan laws of why they joined Konoha in the first place, and sort of implying that there were contracts in place about clan responsibilities to the village and vice versa when Konoha was founded.

Now whether or not the other side accepts the secession peacefully is up in the air, but the ANY clans have been PLANNING and PREPARING for this for a long time so i would think that if it did come to actual battle, the ANY clans would have the foresight to have already evacuated all their noncombatants which puts more risk for the other side. And, sure, Naruto would kick Chouji’s ass—especially since, without Shikamaru, he and Ino aren’t as effective in battle as they were before and no way is Ino going to be able to mind jump a jinchuuriki—but by that point it gets kinda dicey since like… Naruto’s whole stance is that he brought peace to the Elemental Nations and also that Shikako straight up murdered who she wanted… so obviously it’s not hypocrisy per se, but it doesn’t look great in either direction for Naruto if he lets a third of his village leave or if he forces(?) a third of his village to stay under threat of imprisonment(?)

Kakashi knows this. And this is the one case where he is being proactive, competent Hound/former Hokage in that he is trying to reintegrate the ANY clans into the village without tipping anyone off about the plan to secede and also that he knows about the plan to secede. Or maybe he doesn’t really KNOW it per se, but I think he gets the vibe that something is happening to the ANY clans similar to what happened to the Uchiha clan and he’s trying to fix the problem the same way he would have fixed that without realizing that the ANY clans are isolating/diminishing their presence themselves rather than it being done to them by other people.

(Because if it comes to actual war, Kakashi knows what he’ll do. It’s what he’s always done. He’ll fight for Konoha. He’ll kill for Konoha. He doesn’t want to, but he will if it comes to that. But it won’t. Because the Hokage is Naruto and that’s what got them into this situation in the first place)

That being said, it really does depend on the Hyuuga Branch House on whether or not things turn to violence. Because if the ANY clans are able to recruit the Branch House they get that moral victory AND the majority of Konoha’s current most powerful bloodline which means that even if the other clans are willing to stay with Naruto’s village, much less fight for it, odds are not in their favor. But, if the ANY clans CAN’T recruit the Branch House, it then depends on whether they are willing to fight against their current best chance at removing the seal (because even if Shikako is currently off being Kako Heijo that doesn’t mean she won’t at some point go back to sealing. And she won’t look favorably on them if they mess with her clans) and even if they do fight, I can’t imagine they’re going to go all out. (And, also, I have to wonder if Akimichi physiology is at all a deterrent to the Hyuuga’s style? Like… does their bulk mean that more effort is required to hit the tenketsu?)

And, like, even if the ANY clans lose, at worst Naruto is going to imprison them (specifically Chouji and Ino and maybe Kinokawa as the leaders) because the whole situation even started because he doesn’t believe in capital punishment. And then, what, their clans are just supposed to fall back in line without being resentful? And then as if Kako Heijo won’t come out of retirement to prison break her childhood friends and her little brother. AND THEN! THAT JUST FURTHER PROVES THE FUTILITY OF NARUTO’S STANCE (but also does maybe now turn Shikako into an official S-rank nuke nin like the many Konoha S-rank nuke nin before her, but who’s going to go up against her, really, lol)

Oh Kakashi, so little of this is your fault, and yet I know he’s going to internalize all of it and just destroy himself emotionally while still being cool and casual externally.

This is like my only au that acknowledges the existence of baruto

But what if sometime during baruto. Naruto took sasuke too the the waterfall of truth.

Like naruto faces his inner self again and has to face that nothing changed since he was last there. He still harbors anger towards how he was treated as a kid but pushes it away out of fear of rejection and he said he never his ninja way is never going back on his word but he hasnt fulfilled a single promise (neji, nagato ext) amd he dosnt know how then he has to confront the fact that he hates his life now as hokage, he dosnt care about his wife and kids and he's only truly happy the few times he gets to see Sasuke and he has to acknowledge that he dosnt think sasuke is happy either and he wishes they had died together in vote 2.

Sasuke looks into the waterfall of truth and sees his younger self as a child, then as a teen with the mangekyou sharingan who asks him if it was worth it giving up on his revenge for naruto when they arnt even together (could be romantic or platonic) and his life is miserable some of the elders still walk free while his clan in in the ground and even tho he loves naruto but he's not the same anymore he's just an extension of the village that's brought him only pain and even tho he is still his one and only most prescious friend its not enough anymore when the world is still the same and hes still lonely. He hates sakura and his kid (he already knew this tho but it's acknowledged)

So naruto is like screaming shaking and throwing up wishing his life was different while sasuke reawakens his conviction to destroy kohona

history has its eyes on you - the other long and heavy time-travel fic where Kakashi's PTSD is just. A lot.

Bloodstained Hands in a World of White - yet another Kakashi-centric time-travel fic (I have so many of these in my bookmarks)

Ear to the Wall - Kakashi-centric time-travel fic, this one focusing on body dysmorphia caused by suddenly being Seven Years Old again (I actually haven't read this since I bookmarked it in 2020, because fandom jumping, so I don't remember the details)

Seal Shatter - Minakushi fic with an amnesia plot. Absolutely top-tier, but written in 2009, so prior to a bunch of reveals in canon.

Team Time - Modern AU but specifically from the POV of middle school teachers. I know that sounds weird but trust me when I say it's really good.

Unplanned Paternity - Kakashi, under orders from the Hokage, pretends Naruto is an Oops Baby of his own from an undercover mission abroad (along with claiming Naruto is younger than his actual age). Very much 'becoming the mask' in regards to being Naruto's dad.

Iruka at Hogwarts- I know, I know, it's a crossover with the fandom that shan't be named, and it's old enough to have some Very 2009 Fandom elements (which is when it was on ffnet, but this is the AO3 link, whichi s 2020), but it's really fun insofar as Iruka&Naruto goes.

Ghosts and Other Inconveniences - Kakashi is born being able to see ghosts, and it means he is the Most unnerving toddler.

The Skulk in the Leaves - seemingly abandoned fic but... T7 accidentally get turned into Foxes.

And other things Kakashi did not hallucinate - Rin (not dead) and Obito (also not dead) keep helping Kakashi out. He thinks he's hallucinating them from grief. Despite the opportunity to get dark, it's primarily a comedy.

Some of the shitty AU's I've composed over the past year

Modern world single dad Obito au, where Obito works as a highschool teacher and struggles to win custody over the kid he and Rin had together.

Naruto and Sakura working with their adoptive father Obito in the Akatsuki behind the Hidden Leaf's back.

This ones a roller coaster - Obito returns to the Hidden Leaf after that mission, after getting help from Madara and the Zetsu, he returns to a normalish life after Madara passes. He becomes Jounin, and is even runner up for Hokage after Minato... but behind the village's back, he's working with Zetsu to complete most of the Infinite Tsukoyomi. He broke out of the manipulation years ago, but pretends go be under their thumb to complete his own plan for world peace. He helps Itachi kill their clan, and continues on with the nine tails attack and Akatsuki manipulation. He makes friends with village folk, and even helps Kakashi with team 7 as an honorary sensei. And on his missions, he slips away to the Akatsuki to keep a firm eye on what Pein and Nagato are doing. As a Jounin, he encounters the members of his organisation and is forced to fight them. As Tobi, he gets to see just how much his team has grown.

Modern setting teacher Obito au. Obito works at a big, slightly trashy highschool as a maths and history teacher, teaching his teammates in another universe, and giving detention slips to his enemies. A strict, cruel man... who works as an assassin when the school shuts.

Modern setting demon Obito au. A sacred, winged creature worth a lot of money dead or alive. Stuck in the world of mortals with no way home, he takes sanctuary anywhere he can. After being captured by a gang that called themselves the "Akatsuki", and his life threatened, he gives up hope. But the one watching over him, a thin blonde in his late teens, sets him free. Since that day, Obito has made a vow to return the favour.

Deidara, a young prince of the kingdom of Iwa, living his boring castle life. His personal servant, a much older man with glasses, being his only entertainment. Obito spends his days scrubbing floors and tidying up Deidara's room, and taking orders from the king and Deidara 24/7. Deidara never found out why such a fancy, an oddly sexy, man would be working as a servant, or why the others give Obito strange, almost terrified looks... but one fateful night, when Obito kills a bandit to save Deidara's life, all of his questions were answered

Shortly after Boruto's birth, Naruto and Hinata get a divorce. With split custody, Naruto raises Boruto on his own the best he can, with the help of his friends and family. Years after his split with Hinata, Naruto starts to notice something wrong with Boruto after he returns from Hinata's for the week. He's thinner, and ill looking. Panicked, he postpones several meetings to take Boruto to Sakura. Boruto had been starved, and even beaten. Naruto has enough, and enforces full custody of Boruto, knowing exactly why Hinata was doing it. A way to get back at him, and a continuation of the Hyuuga clan's traditions. In his moment of need, Kakashi steps up and takes care of Boruto in the day, and helps Naruto with everything he can. He moves in, and slowly falls in love. Naruto reciprocates, and Boruto gets a new mama.

Trans Sakura (mtf) and trans Sasuke (ftm) au

Obito is an ancient vampiric diety that is awakened by a snobby highschool kid, Deidara. A curse is unleashed as he is released, and Deidara has to spend his time hiding a vampire bound to his soul from his parents and friends

Sakura is an infamous murderer on the run, wanted dead or alive. Luring people in and taking there lives in a gruesome way. Slow, painful deaths, and horrible medical experiments. Sasuke, who sought her out, gets kidnapped. He begs for mercy, he only wants to join her. He wants to be with her, he wants to assist her. He wants to be hers. Reluctant, and untrusting. Sakura agrees. She takes Sasuke with her, and he only falls in love with her more watching her kill.

Trans Boruto au. Struggling to come to terms with who he is, and amongst all of the bullying for changing from a girl to a boy Boruto asks his father for help. Naruto sends him to Sakura, someone he knows will help Boruto through his transition without judgement. Sakura is transgender herself, afterall.

Yes, Tobirama was still the Second Hokage in this AU, he returned to the position after his fight against the Kinkaku force ( if ur new here, my HC for this au is that upon his death, the Shinigami cursed him with immortality and the inability to die as punishment for his wrongs and the creation of the Edo Tensei and basically messing with the laws of nature, meaning he will suffer by seeing all who he loves die and leaving him behind in a world that is moving on without him ) By the time Minato becomes Hokage, Tobirama is retired! But of course even retired he still retains the rank so he does help Minato out when need be and fills in if Minato is injured or something of the sort~

He did the same for Hiruzen when Hiruzen was Third Hokage! Not to mention in this au, Hiruzen was an adult instead of a late teen when Tobirama passed the title to him~ so Tobirama was Hokage for a good few years! ( I’m still deciding whether or not if Tsunade would be Hokage here seeing how Minato is alive and what not, though knowing her she’d probably not want it ABSHAKAJ )

Sasuke appears in front of the gate with a swirl of flames and crackling of lightning, wobbling on his feet when he arrives. Kushina shrieks in surprise, before glaring at him with mock venom. He was about to rub the back of his neck, before he realizes the braid covering said nape.  He moves the braid to a shoulder, before greeting his godparents. “Good Afternoon, Shikaku-san, Mikoto-san, I was told of your arrival, may I ask of what it would be?” he asked politely, which earned a fond rolling of violet eyes from Kushina.  “Sasuke-kun, ever so polite. Is it so bad that Kushina and I just thought of visiting our favorite godchild?” Shikaku questions, making him shake his head abruptly. “Ah, no, I was just surprised. Will we meet in a location or do we walk there as a group?”  “Let’s wait for your older brother before walking, Shikamaru and Naruto already went ahead. Minato unfortunately wouldn’t be able to make it because of Hokage duties, and Yoshino is out for a short mission in the Land of Lightning.”  He questions this, confusion and exasperation filling his whole being when he found out that somehow, Kushina and Shikaku, who are the exact people who his parents are pining for, are the ones who are destined to be his godparents. And the same people who have sons of their own, that are somehow the same age as his.  How destiny is playing with his strings, he doesn’t know. But his parents’ advice of not falling for a Nara and a Uzumaki is proving to be a difficult considering his situation.  He only nods, before the three of them wait in front of the gates, dead silent. He should have not of thought about it, because it made it very awkward. Wind whirls beside him, before flames burst, diminishing as a flock of crows as Itachi strides forward, smiling politely.  “Should we get going?” his brother asks, which his godparents nodded to, the two clan heads moving in front of the two brothers. He glares at Itachi suspiciously, the amused smirk looking far too annoying.  They enter Ichiraku Ramen, where Shikamaru and Naruto reserved seats, Kushina excitedly talking to Shikaku-san. He trails after them quietly, watching Itachi quietly add to the conversation. Clan Head matters, he realizes, remembering Itachi talking about him about Danzo. He finds politics only a tiny bit interesting, but he wouldn’t do it if someone asks him to. Except if they allow him to just talk down on the elders, he would do it in a second. He sits down in the remaining seat, somehow, somehow in between Shikamaru and Naruto. He resists the urge to throw his hands up, only pushing a strand of hair behind his ear. Naruto’s loud storytelling filling his ears as Teuchi-san places a bowl of tonkotsu ramen in front of him, which he smiles at. Shikamaru’s drawls answer to Naruto’s words, their voices mingling as the background noise, him quietly taking bites of the chashu pork belly.  “Sasuke-kun, I’ve heard that from Naru-chan that you pushed him out of the way by your last mission, I just wanted to thank you.” Kushina oba-san mentions, making him look up in surprise, ruffling his well-kept bangs.  “Hn, It’s fine oba-san, he was being an idiot anyways.” he explains, wiping his lips with a tissue. He moves the empty bowl next to Naruto’s stack, taking the half-eaten bowl Shikamaru moved, passing it silently to Naruto, who was currently defending himself on how he wasn’t a complete idiot.  Shikamaru just answers him with sarcasm, reminding him that he probably would’ve been kidnapped if Sasuke didn’t think of walking back to the town, because Naruto made it a rule to always get lost in their missions. Thanks to Sasuke, they were able to arrive on time, which saved Kurama from getting extracted from the seal.  He joins in their banter, teaming up with Shikamaru on how Shikamaru had to keep Naruto in place with his shadow technique, and that he had to subdue the Kyuubi with the Sharingan, while Kakashi-nii (sensei) fought Deidara.  Itachi snorts as he humiliates Sasuke to his godparents, telling them how he would let the young children from the clan braid his hair, that he would bring them to a training ground to help them practice. Itachi sure does find it amusing to be the one humiliating him, since their parents aren’t there to do it for him.  He laughs along as his godparents tease Shikamaru and Naruto, smirking when their cheeks look red.  He doesn’t notice the adults sharing a glance to each other, doesn’t notice Naruto’s arm around the back of his chair, or how Shikamaru smacks his thigh whenever the Nara laughs.  “Sasuke, I heard you and Gaara were doing joint missions? How has that been going?” Itachi innocently asks, which he answered with a nonchalant tone, “You know why, Itachi. I don’t know why you’re even asking me.”  He doesn’t notice the males beside him stiffening, or the jealousy swirling in their eyes. Sasuke may have avoided falling for a Nara or a Uzumaki, but the two males fell for him instead. Mikoto watching over her sons:  “Holy shit, Fugaku, look, he listened to our advice.” she murmurs, before laughing, hysterically crying when she notices the jealous teens on either side.  “He sure did.” Part 1 of this AU Part 2 of this AU

He suddenly realised what he had done, passing a team.  Kakashi was left scrambling not to repeat old mistakes and regrets. This team would not suffer the fate of his team.

In this world, simply put, Kakashi became a teacher.  This is the beginning of a new team seven.

Prolonged Tobirama content, Senju lore, senju feels, Summary: The Hidden Leaf Village in Naruto's time seems to have forgotten just why the village was founded and have lost their way.  Through a mishap with a hiraishin seal, Tobirama finds himself during Naruto's time and he is having none of this nonsense. His brother may be gone, but he won't stand to have Hashirama's dream trampled so. And if he has to cause a civil war or burn the village down to the ground? Well that depends on how much resistance he meets. All Tobirama does know for certain is that no child will suffer underneath the protection of Konoha and if he has to take them in and care for them himself, then he will.

Hardest of hearts by blackkat Oneshot, Gen, look I really like blackkat’s naruto fic okay, part one of a completed three part series, all three parts are great, Fix its are the best, Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Time Travel, Time Travel Fix It, Orochimaru redemption story, the sheer shadenfreude of one baddie fucking over another baddie, in this case Danzo, Obito has a ‘bad guy but not that bad of a guy’ solidarity moment with Orochimaru at the start and I loved it so there’s that, featuring a low key constantly horrified at this turn of events Minato,

Summary: Orochimaru gets one more chance. Just maybe, it will be enough to save him—and the entire world as well. 

A Snake In the Grass, a Wolf At the Door by blackkat Mature, Completed ten chapter fic, Orochimaru redemption story, Orochimaru/Kakashi’s dad, you read that right, quality Sakumo content, Families of Choice, Humour, Fluff and Angst, somewhat crackish, Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, baby Kakashi being a cutie Summary: Orochimaru is on the edge of breaking when someone unexpected pulls him back to solid ground. When the time comes, he returns the favour.

Nukenin by WhisperingDarkness Gen, dimension travel, team seven, team as family, Kakashi actually being a good sensei even when he’s not a sensei at all, possessive kakashi, Team Seven is his team, Kinda Fluffy, Protective Kakashi, the ‘this might as well happen’ adaptability is real, Kakashi adopts team seven and team seven adopts kakashi, even though he’s illegal, 4 chapter fic, marked as complete as author doesn’t plan to continue it, but even taking these chapters as stand alone this fic is great,

Summary:  In the sealed scroll he finds a Bingo Book – his own page marking him as an S-class nukenin with flee-on-sight orders.  “Ok. That is definitely different.”  In his head he blames Naruto – even if his number one unpredictable student had been nowhere near him on this mission. When things go this stupidly impossibly wrong it must somehow be the future Hokage’s fault.

Ear to the Wall by Vodkassassin Ongoing, it’s really really good though! great Kakashi content, Minato is very stressed and I love him, Sickfic, Hurt/Comfort, whump, PTSD’d Kakashi gets to relive his childhood but gets a little bit of a real childhood along the way, ADHD Rin, time travel fix it, look I like what I like and what I like is fix its and time travel apparently, Kakashi adopts Orochimaru before he descends into douchbaggery, Orochimaru Redemption story, everyone is alive,   Summary: The Minato-sensei beams at him, and replies, “Kakashi! I’m glad you’re awake,” and, yup, that’s Minato-sensei’s voice. Kakashi falls back down against the bed, closing his eyes. It’s too short of a way down, and he clenches hands that are too tiny and feeble and not his in dog-print sheets he hasn’t owned for decades.

It all starts with Rin's kidnapping, and her subsequent rescue at the hands of a mysteriously appearing, monstrously strong, murderously violent woman. A woman with cotton candy pink hair. It only devolves from there.

Really good fic so far, kind of verging on dry in places but it always stays fun in the end with lots of interesting elements, I enjoy the character insight from the pov switching, and also how much of a headcase Kakashi is, graphic depictions of violence, Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence,

Summary: It’s just… he’d thought, given his fight against Neji and then his confrontation with Gaara, that someone would finally really acknowledge what he’d done.  That beyond Iruka-sensei’s crushing hug and Kakashi-sensei’s absent pat, someone would actually notice that he’d won against both of them.

That he’d beaten a genius on his own and then had battled another jinchūriki to a stand still.

Summary: A day off was something special. Time for shinobi to relax and enjoy themselves. Apparently, Tsunade-sama has different plans for Kakashi’s day off.

Days off were a rare treat for Kakashi.

A chance to kick back, relax, and not have to stress about the newest mission that Tsunade-sama had decided to send him out on. Somewhere under a nice tree, he’d huddle up with his favourite book and spend hours just getting lost in a familiar world. Maybe he’d even take a nap.

All of those plans were thrown out the window as soon he woke up that morning to find none other than Senju Tsunade, Hokage of Konoha, sitting at his dinner table.

“We’re hanging out today.”

The words were still ringing in his ears as he followed her through the streets of Konoha, wondering where it was they could possibly be going. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to hang out with the older woman. He quite enjoyed her company, when she hadn’t consumed too much sake to stand on her own anymore.

When he thought of a ‘day off’ though, the first thing that came to mind was not spending the day with the Hokage.

“So, I don’t suppose you’re willing to tell me why I just got dragged out of my apartment by the Hokage,” Tsunade-sama’s only response was the slightest shift of her eyes. Something that was easy for anyone else to miss, but clearly said ‘Stop there or die’ to Kakashi. “Right, of course not.”

It was his mistake.

He should have known better than to use her position when referring to her, even if it was the correct thing to say. Being Hokage was as much a dream for Tsunade-sama as it was for Kakashi himself.

In other words, it was the furthest thing from what either of them wanted in their lives. Kakashi was surprised Naruto had managed to convince the Sannin to take the job at all. Of course, he was the number one unpredictable shinobi. If someone thought a job was impossible, there was no doubt that Naruto would find a way to do it just to prove them wrong.

“Mah, I was really looking forward to relaxing today.” extracting his hands from his pockets, he poked the older woman’s rib cage and chuckled when she responded by trying to deck him. It wasn’t an easy punch to dodge, but he managed to duck under it at the last second, avoiding having his head popped off by her incredible strength.

“If you keep this up you’ll be relaxing for a week in the hospital, brat.” She warned. “Jeez, you’re just like your father. You always have to bug me.”

His father.

A small smile tugged at Kakashi’s lips. He hadn’t heard her mention his father in years. Partially because she was always out of the village travelling, but mostly because the last time she had tried Kakashi had yelled at her.

He had been so young back then. Angry about what had happened, and hurt beyond imagination because of his father’s choice. When he had heard fondness in the older woman’s voice at the mention of his father, he snapped.

Told her never to bring his old man up ever again. That he was dead and gone and Kakashi was better off without him.

Back then, he had believed his own words. Now though, he’d give anything to take them back.

“How about some Sake,” Her smile is wider than he has ever seen it before, with a glint in her eyes that screams danger. “I’ll pay.”

Well, as long as he wasn’t the one having to pay.

“How can I say no?”

With the invitation accepted, Tsunade-Sama took hold of his right arm and tugged him through the streets of Konoha to whatever place she had decided to get him drunk at.

He wasn’t looking forward to the hangover in the morning, but there was one bonus to getting drunk with the Hokage. If it was her fault that he wasn’t in any shape to do a mission, she’d have to give him an extra day off to recover.

Agreeing to go out drinking with Tsunade-sama had been a huge mistake. There’s no reason he shouldn’t have known better. Everyone knew about the Hokage’s terrible drinking habit and her high tolerance for alcohol.

There was no way he was going to be able to keep up with her, but here he was. Sitting across from her at a small restaurant watching as she poured him a fourth glass of Sake like it was no big deal.

His head was already starting to get foggy, and he’s pretty sure the filter on his mouth stopped working after his third shot of Sake. That was the only explanation he had for the fact that he had just told her, without fear of judgment, that he had never gotten the ‘birds and the Bees’ talk.

“No wonder you’re always reading Icha Icha,” setting the bottle of Sake down, she lifted her glass towards him and then proceed to shoot back her fifth cup. Already one ahead of him and looking like she was handling it a lot better. “You know, Jiraiys books are the worst place to go for information on that kind of stuff. I wouldn’t call him ‘experienced’ in the subject.”

“Meh, where else am I supposed to learn it?” Giving his shoulders a shrug, he stared down at his own cup of sake. “I’m an adult with no parental figure to ask about that sort of thing. At this point, it’s sink or swim.”

“Did Minato never give you the talk?”

“I think Sensei had bigger things on his mind around the time I might have gotten that particular talk from him,” His pregnant wife, Rin’s death, Kakashi’s trauma’s, his duties as Hokage. There were a lot of things his Sensei had to take care of at the time, and then before they knew it he was dead. “Besides, he would have made it awkward. He was always so…”

“Embarrassing?” Tsunade-sama chuckled. “That’s the impression I always got of him when I would watch him training with Jiraya.”

“It’s not the wrong impression,” Kakashi agreed. “Sensei was a deadly shinobi, but he was also a dork at heart.”

“Sounds like someone else I know,” Picking up the bottle of Sake once more, she held it up for him to see. A silent question that he quickly answered with a simple nod towards his still full cup. “Even the most deadly shinobi’s in the world can be giant dorks, Kakashi. You should know that better than anyone. After all, your father was the biggest dork of them all.”

Kakashi laughed. A shallow, bitter laugh with no real joy in it.

“You don’t believe me?” Tsunade-sama waved a finger towards him. “Don’t tell me people really have you thinking he was some suave, sophisticated guy. He was a huge dork. Most days he could out dork Minato without even trying. Heck, Even Naruto isn’t as dorky as Sakumo was.”

“I believe you,” holding up his hands in surrender, he watched as she narrowed her eyes. “I just…”

It was hard to admit.

Most people had pictures of their families. Memories that they held dear to them of the loved ones they lost.

Him?

He had nothing. The few pictures his father had been able to take between missions had been lost to time. Some of them still hidden somewhere in the old Hatake residence that Kakashi refuses to step foot into even though he continued to pay for it so that it wouldn’t be torn down.

“Tell me a story.” The filter on his mouth failed him once more, but this time he couldn’t be bothered to be embarrassed about it. It was his day off and he was supposed to be enjoying himself. What better way to enjoy himself than to actually hear a good memory about his father.

Something to combat all of the vile spewed on his name after his death. All the hatred that had been thrown at him and Kakashi for the simple mistake of choosing his teammate’s lives over the mission.

“A story?” There’s a sad look in her eyes. One that Kakashi knows deep down is because of him. “Are you sure that’s what you want? Last time-”

He waved a hand, cutting off the rest of her sentence. “I was a kid. Angry and bitter about things I really didn’t understand,” but he had come to terms with it all. Accepted what he couldn’t understand back then. “I just...You’re the only person I know who has stories about him. About who he was outside of missions and duty.”

Sadness gives way to fondness, and with a playful smile, she leaned forward and propped her elbows on the table.

“It could get embarrassing,” She warned. “Are you sure you’re up for it?”

“If there’s one thing I know for certain about my father, It’s that he is easily the most embarrassing man to ever exist in this world,” Picking up his cup of Sake finally, he tipped it towards her and gave her a soft smile. “Beside’s, nothing you can tell me could possibly be worse than what I have to endure with Gai most days.”

Judging by the look of sheer glee the made its home on Tsunade-sama’s face, he was wrong.

So very, completely wrong.

And he couldn’t wait to hear all about it.

Happy (belated) Birthday Sasuke 7/23

Anbu Sasuke! I imagine this in an AU where Naruto became Hokage as a teen. And yes he and Sasuke are dating. Probably in secret. I doubt you’d be allowed to date the Hokage as a black ops officer. Then again, I also doubt Sasuke would care about the rules.

Part 6 of the Shikaku Adopts Kakashi Au Series

Summary: Kakashi fails Team 7, much to Hiruzen's dismay, leaving the Hokage with only one other option. Shikaku must take the role his adopted son refused to take and train the kid to take over as Jonin Commander.

I’ve had this idea in my head for a while and since I have very limited wifi and nothing else to do after work I’m writing it. 6 chapters are up and there may be a few more and a sequel.

Rambling, Unorganized Naruto Band AU

Minato is a former teen idol turned manager for a band composed of Rin, Obito, and Kakashi. They’re on their way to the top when Obito is injured in a stage accident that ultimately ends his music career. Rin leaves the music industry as a result and starts working in sea turtle conservation. (Obito resurfaces years later as an EDM musician with a mask under the pseudonym Tobi.)

Kakashi dicks around as a solo artist for a few years and eventually starts managing an up and coming band composed of Sakura, Sasuke, and Naruto.

Sasuke’s older brother, Itachi, was a rising star. Under pressure from his manager, Danzo, he teamed up with a band called the Akatsuki to toughen up his image. The Akatsuki were a rock band with a reputation for partying hard. While Itachi does gain new fans, he falls into the world of drugs and eventually OD’s.

Sasuke is determined to avenge the Uchiha name, so he has to make it to the top. Unfortunately, his band mates aren’t as dedicated. He’s eventually lured away by producer, Orochimaru, who promises to make Sasuke famous, and goes solo. (Sasuke plays all his own instruments in the recording studio, but team taka are his touring band.)

Sasuke and Taka eventually part ways with Orochimaru to start their own indie label.

Sasuke is replaced in Team 7 by alternative musician Sai. His older brother, Tenzou, is a bit overprotective because Sai is autistic, so he sticks around to ensure his little brother isn’t taken advantage of. That, and he has a crush on Kakashi.

Unless otherwise stated: nations are record companies, Hokage are presidents/ceos, Summons are mascots, teams are bands, and Sensai are managers.

Team ebisu: Konohamaru, moegi, and udon are high school students in ebisu’s music class. Konohamaru is Naruto’s biggest fan and next door neighbor.

Sand siblings: Theyre a death core band, or some kind of metal. Gaara on lead guitar and vocals, Temari on drums, Kankuro on bass. Kankuro and Temari also do cool special effects for their music videos. Shukaku is a creature mascot they made up for their band of the same name.

Team 7. Sakura plays drums and does backing vocals. Sasuke plays bass and lead vocals. Naruto plays lead guitar and refuses to be resigned to backing vocals. Sasuke has the best voice and is the most musically gifted, but Naruto has passion. Sakura is the only person holding this mess together. Sai joins them later and becomes their main lyric writer. Kuruma is their mascot. Naruto constantly tweets picks of his pet toads. Kakashi literally has 8 dogs. Menma is an artistic persona Naruto assumed in a set of music videos.

Team 8. Kiba and Hinata both do vocals. Shino is heavily influenced by classic Linkin Park. Kiba plays drums. Hinata plays keytar. Shino plays bass. Akamaru is Kiba’s dog and the official band mascot. Kurenai does all their album artwork.

Team Gai. Tenten plays drums. She’s heavily influenced by all girl rock bands. Neji sings and plays piano. He is classically trained. Lee plays the drums and posts behind the scenes videos of everything and it’s almost always just videos of Neji doing normal things and then getting mad about being recorded. Gai is a very active manager.

Team 10. This band has RANGE to rival Fergie. Ino is the top female artist of the year. She sings and plays lead guitar. Choji plays drums. Shikamaru plays bass and gripes about practice. Asuma tells them not to do drugs - He does not practice what he preaches. I have a very vivid image in my head of Ino covering Jet’s “Are You Gonna Be My Girl?”

All four teams have toured together pretty regularly.

Team Taka. Suigetsu plays lead guitar. Juugo plays bass. Karin plays drums. Sasuke plays any other instrument needed and sings.

The Sannin. They rose to fame quickly but split soon after due to artistic differences. Orochimaru became the next mcr. Tsunade started her own record company. Jiraiya writes bad romance novels for a living.

Team Minato. Kakashi sings lead vocals and plays bass. Rin plays lead guitar and sings backing vocals. Obito plays drums. (Maybe switch Rin and obito’s instruments?)

The akasuki. Nagato is the head of their indie record label before they’re bought by madara’s company. Yahiko is nagato’s assistant. Itachi records with them but he’s not an official member of the band. They tour together a lot. Same with Tobi . Orochimaru was a guest artist on one album. Konan plays keytar and sings lead vocals. Deidara and Zetsu are roadies and head the special effects crew. Kakuzu plays drums. Hidan plays lead guitar. Sasori plays violin. Kisame plays bass guitar.

Idk how the fourth shinobi war fits into this, but I imagine there’s some kind of revolution in the music industry? Or maybe Madara advocates for vocaloids and auto tune over real musicians cause if he’s not the top artist, nobody can be! And Tobi, as a DJ and EDM artist can totally get behind that because it doesn’t affect his job security.

The founders are some sort of musical pioneers? Maybe like the Beatles? Tobirama is @k1dekismadaratemple’s swag tobirama. They eventually break up because Madara and tobirama won’t stop fighting. Hashimada also complicated things.

Kaguya is obviously some sort of musical pioneer, too. Maybe Elvis-like? Ooh! Or she invents auto tune! Or just makes it popular. Or maybe she’s a vocaloid!

Neji and Hinata’s dads were in a band together. When they broke up, Hinata’s dad got the rights to all of their music,
