Unpopular opinion but I don't hate the Altean Colony plot. It's just another wasted plot line that could've been very interesting.
A lot of people think it ruined Lotors character but I'd argue it didn't. Him not getting a redemption did. The white lion is episode is a perfect depiction of Lotors character.
This is just an opinion, and a poorly done analysis.
Essentially, even if Lotor despises Galran culture/heritage it's clearly had an impact on him. Allura was wrong when she said he's just like his father, Lotor is exactly like his mother.
Lotor shouts at the lion "victory or death" That's all he's been taught. That's how he had to survive too, considering he's an outcast hated by his own father.
(And then Honerva takes her chances with the white lion by killing it too....she was just successful..)
Another thing is, Lotor never had the time to explain the colony to Allura. We never got to see Lotors perspective of this colony. I'm not saying Lotor is a liar, he's meticulous, manipulative but honest when it came to team Voltron and I do think his allegiance go them was true.
So...why the colony? So here's two things.
Some things are earned the hard way. If anyone knows about loss, it should be Allura. In his furious state Lotor threatened to wipe out any enemies in the way of him and his new Altean followers.
His word is true. That may be hard to accept but victory or death. I always found that so interesting about Lotor, how complex things are for him. Had he gained the secrets of Oriande or whatever would he have found another way?
Secondly, all those bodies being used. This is just a theory here because I don't know. But, none of those bodies were disposed of.
And you know what quintessence does? Well I don't know if it has the ability to ressurect but it gives you immortality. Considering the fact that the Altean bodies were still kept, Lotors promise may have been good. He could easily restore their lives, now given with immortality.
On top of that, if the Alteans are immortal, Lotors reign can last forever. That's probably what Lotor wants.
His 'death' or so doesn't make sense because last I heard Lotor had some sort of immunity to the quintessence field...(allegedly) The Altean colony plot gets left behind, Romelle is a useless character, the way his character is set up. It just makes sense honestly for him to be this anti villian. People mistake him for an anti hero. He's not.
Because Lotors reasons are understandable. His redemption arc starts with him realizing it's not always about victory or death. Too bad he died fighting that way.

At some point during the period where they’re all working together after the Kral Zera, Lotor gives Team Punk free reign over the laboratories and workshops at Central Command.
One day he pays them a visit while they’re working on a project and the sounds of the machinery prompt the two humans to start…
Stomp stomp
Clap
Stomp stomp
Clap
Stomp stomp
Clap
After an impromptu rendition of “We Will Rock You”, Lotor, along with the two Galra soldiers (flesh and blood, not sentry robots) stationed outside as guards, finds himself fascinated by the music of the Paladins’ homeworld, and asks if there are any other songs Pidge and Hunk could introduce them to.
Bonding (and introducing the Galra Empire to Queen) ensues.

a voltron au? in 2020? it’s more likely than you think
look. LOOK. i know that voltron is stupid and we hate it but lets be honest: everything up until season 3 was pretty good and had lots of potential !!
today i was rewatching voltron and a thought struck me: what if, instead of shiro being cloned, he was chipped and turned to the side of the galra?
so here it is, i did not blink since i thought of this
(warning, i have not seen voltron in a while and this is just knowledge i have stored in my moss brain and stuff i know from rewatching the first season)
au where shiro goes evil bc of what happens @ end of season one instead of the clone thing bc 1) haggar rly could not have made thousands of shiros after bumping into team voltron like what twice? its hella improbable and 2) just… weird
so instead they insert a chip in him that helps them spy and control him just like kuron (the clone) did minus the unlikely storytelling
eventually after the convo with sendak when he was in the pod trying to temp shirp, he does have thoughts about helping zarkon
(“im already infiltrated with the arm, i could just speed up the process by leaving now. save the team the trouble of investing in a leader that’s doomed to fail from the strart.”)
shiro ends up leaving team voltron in season 2 after zarkon goes crazy w the black lion n stuff
^^ this adds to Keith’s reasoning of joining the Blade of Marmora (shiro is his main stability and one of the main reasons he even stuck around with team voltron, so with shiro gone and keith questioning his place as the leader and paladin of the black lion, he decides the BoM is just.. what’s best for him)
obviously lance isn’t happy with this (“you just told me that i’m a valuable member, now you don’t think YOU are? what logic is that?”)
ofc keith goes anyways
lance becomes paladin of the black lion
allura takes on the red lion
who has blue lion? ...idk this isn’t that thought out (maybe matt after pidge finds her family) (which will happen earlier in the plot since we can forget about the miniplot of black no longer responding to shiro)
enter lotor only this time he has a sidekick and what omg its shiro wow
shiro has that bigger version of his arm that was once offered to him
he’s stronger and scary, but his eyes aren’t the same, he has the strength of a galra but lacks the passion
in the fight between lotor and zarkon, (and after, of course lots of self doubt and questioning) shiro comes between them and convinces lotor NOT to kill zarkon
then zarkon kills lotor
everyones like oh shit bc surely someone who’s life was just spared wouldn’t kill the person who seems to have the most power
but he did. bc he’s zarkon. and he’s fckn crazy.
shiro doesn’t go back to team voltron bc its too much too easily
instead he takes the place of lotor in the group of gals
he convinces them all to rebel against the galra
eventually they teach him all about quintessence and all the shit lotor had planned that they can’t do anymore
(lotor wasn’t harvesting alteans in this universe bc what the heck even was that subplot that had little to no relevance to the main storyline?
instead he was trying to find a way to technologically bring back alteans (kinda like how allure’s dad was originally preserved in s1)
i know nothing about How Stuff Works and i dont remember much about quintessence n shit but the basic idea is that when tying in some of a persons artifacts with technology stuff and some quintessence then boom. a weird route from astral projection land to the team is created and ppl can come back or smth idfk
but lotor was never able to get the comet so shiro decides he and the gals will get that comet and try to bring back as many alteans as they can
^ all this while infiltrating as many galra fleets as possible + saving planets under galra empire
they personally visit every planet that lotor was in charge of and release them from galra control
they are able to bring back an altean (its romelle) and she talks abt her friend who lives on the balmera and they go to the balmera and its revealed that it was shay’s great grandmother so romelle asks where shay is and shay’s family is like with team voltron of course
so
they take her
obviously team voltron, the BoM and the Rebels r very hesitant to make contact but they decide to try it out
keith refuses to meet, instead he’s on the team that stands guard
reunions !!
romelle and shay hit it off and hunk makes a dinner much like roselle’s past (allura and coran also hang out and they all vibe)
lance talks to shiro abt everything to do with keith and shiro is like dude do u??? like him?
and lance is like what? no ofc not—oh shit.
and keith ✨overhears ✨
pidge matt and shiro catch up n shit
meanwhile keith is like Hey Lance Uhhhhhh What The Fuck
they end up being like hey since we’re all here and we hate zarkon what if we make a plan to end the galra’s reign Right Now
so they do
and y’all.. it’s hella baller plan
except something is going wrong and in the middle of an attack zarkon is able to get the upper hand
due to haggar’s magic and lance’s mental and emotional instability, zarkon is able to get in his head
everyone is trying to talk him down but they’re all under a lot of pressure
allura is also conflicted bc she wanted to be black lion bc she wanted to rub it in to zarkon’s face that she was stronger than he and that she could beat him at his own game
but the negativity and instability feeds into zarkon’s power and makes him and haggar stronger as they pull in voltron to finally take over the team and regain their status as the most powerful alien race
hunk realizes this and is like okay can y’all stop being negative? its clearly affecting them in a good way and it makes us an easier target
and pidge is like im literally a child pls i don’t wanna die i just got my family back it can’t end like this
shiro realizes what’s going on and he goes to save them
he uses all his energy, pulling in the positive memories (everything: first learning about space, becoming a teacher, meeting adam, meeting keith, first making team voltron, his friends and family--all of it) to push back zarkon and haggar’s powers and battle once more in the astral realm
in defeating zarkon, shiro loses his life
afterwards keith enters the ship in a hurry and is like where the fuck is shiro where’s my brother what did you do what happened
and team voltron is like hey man.. we are so so sorry
and keith cries because the last thing he ever said to shiro was mean
lance feels like its all his fault since he was supposed to be a good leader
they talk about separately while hunk pidge and allura discuss
krolia is like keith we, ur family, are here for u
and axca is there and shes like um?? hey?? sry for trying to kill u bro
and he’s like i absolutely do not wanna talk i just lost my closest friend
they talk about it later
axca tells keith abt shiro finishing lotor’s work and abt bringing people back and well..
they use the methods to help keith visit shiro in the astral realm
shiro is like oh uh hey i was just having a drink w adam we r happy
and keith is like shiro u fuckhead why would u sacrifice urself
shiro sighs bc cmon keith you KNOW why “remember what i always said? we can’t focus on what went wrong..”
“we’ve got to figure out how to make it right” keith finishes
keith breaks tf down crying and screams apologizing
“i love u shiro. ur a like a big brother to me.”
and shiro is like yeah i know and ilyt but hey. everyone’s safe and happy. im safe and happy. & you deserve to be too. you don’t need me anymore.
so the galra rule is over and everyone goes to their respected planets
romelle and the other alteans as well as some galra babes hang in earth
romelle and shay r in an apartment together and have a garden
allura realizes she may not have been the strongest leader for voltron, and couldn’t stop zarkon on her own but that physical strength doesn’t define her as a whole
her heart is strong enough to care for everyone, so thats what she does
allura starts running an inn for alteans filled with painted sceneries like altea in case anyone ever needs a reminder of home
when lance reunites with his family its a real tearjerker
rachel finally gets her jacket back and veronica is like So.. Axca 👀
the McClain’s host a huge party for everyone and it’s filled with lots of hugs and loud music and even tho lance was way too tired, he danced all night
he wouldn’t trade his family for the world—genetic and chosen
when hunk reunites with his parents they don’t let him out the house for hours, he tells them all about his new best friend shay as well as hundreds of his favorites stories from space
they are so, so proud of him
hunk spends the next days playing minecraft and animal crossing with pidge, giving their brains a rest from being on hyperdrive for 3 yrs straight
when pidge gets home she finally gets grounded by her mom, only being allowed to leave the house to see her old teammates
(same for matt and her dad)
(her mother cries so hard when they opened the door to the home)
the holt family holds movie nights filled with popcorn, cuddles, and tears
keith moves in with the holt family, and finally accepts that he has a home as well as a family
he often goes on trips with the BoM but mostly just stays on earth
after a Team Voltron sleepover in the altea inn keith and lance decide to get an apartment together and live their lives in love and in peace
everyone gets together once a year in celebration of shiro and the sacrifice he made for them
they use the ship to visit Astral Shiro and once they even met adam
everyone laughs and catches up and just... live their lives
everyone is happy
pls ignore any and all errors lmao
again, just a thought !! maybe i’ll write a fic abt it idk for sure but yeah
feel free to add anything <3

Y'know what wld have been an interesting arc end fight for Lance? Something akin to Joker vs Terry fight, like there's one villain who is an absolute sadistic ass hole, and has tortured the team physically, mentally and emotionally and then he comes all cocky at Lance, underestimating him and trying to use his insecurities against him and then Lance is like "y'know what? Not only will I beat the shit out of you, I will do it by using your own game but only better" And then he does it
You know this idea works really will with any of the two options:
Lotor and Sendack
(cause if there was anyone that deserved a fight with Sendack as much as Shiro it was freaking Lance.)
Honestly, either of those two make this idea amazing. I mostly thing Lotor would be the best.
Where he never actually died, he got trapped in the quintessence field they all fought in, and just kind of went “insane”...and maybe come back with some new abilities. He is just super vengeful and out to get Voltron and Haggar can’t control him, (or even reign him in with the fact that she really is his mother). And Lotor manages to terrorized the Atlas and sort of render a lot of it’s functions and crew while he goes about getting is revenge on Voltron. He’s all for playing mind games, and just really being a force.
When the time it comes for him to go after Lance, he thinks it’s going to be so easy. Lance isn’t someone he knows to be a fighter, and not to mention, Lance has been keeping his distance and stuff. Lotor decides he is going to kill Lance first, cause of a few reasons. And Lance is just like “nah, not going to happen,” and locks himself in a room with Lotor. Then just dominates the whole situation almost immediately. Like he twists Lotor’s words to point out how everything he did was literally the most strategic move in the book, and Lotor is so stupid for not noticed. While in the same breath being the most annoying little thing to egg Lotor on and on. And when he winds, he is just like “yeah, that’s what I thought was going to happen.”

A rant about Voltron: Legendary Defender because ... apparently I feel like embarrassing myself on main 🤷♀️ (beware of spoilers ahead if you're a few years late to this party and you care)
-
When the Netflix series originally came out (in 2016-ish, I believe?), I didn't really give it any thought because it's based on a mecha anime and I have zero interest in space robots. But I love animation and I eventually came under the impression that there was decent POC and queer representation in the show. I finally started watching it a couple of weeks ago. I finished the series today.
Here are some of my thoughts/impressions, in no particular order, because I feel like rambling about something other than politics for once:
I'm glad I didn't watch the show when it was a "thing", because I've read that its fandom was scary. So I guess I dodged a mess there.
Pidge is precious and is probably my favorite character. She is so determined and nerdy and resourceful and androgynous and I loooooove her. She has the universe on her shoulders and takes herself very seriously, but she also gets several moments to be the fifteen-year-old kid that she is. I love that nobody on the team treats her any differently (even if Lance is initially shocked) when she tells them about her gender.
Hunk is also precious. Media in general really needs to move the fuck away from fatphobic "humor", though. He was definitely written to be more than his size and his love for food, but ... those things were still running jokes and the way he was treated just didn't sit right with me (more about that in a bit). He's such a caring soul and I found him to be an endearing character.
I guess there is decent representation? I have mixed feelings about how it is/isn't shown.
Like ... Shiro's endgame love interest and wedding both come out (lol) of nowhere (who is that guy? how did they meet? where's the buildup?) Of course, we already know that Shiro is queer because there are brief references to his ex boyfriend, but once we learn about this part of his back story, his role in the remainder of the series is kind of sidelined. Sure he's not a paladin anymore but his overall story is a huge part of the broader show. You can't tell me that, at the very least, he and Keith don't continue to spend time together outside of work or combat settings. He has been through so much and they are each others' rocks.
Allura fucking DIES??? Yes, let's just kill off the only brown female central character. She's already survived a genocide; lost her entire family, culture, and planet; and frequently shares her healing powers with others to the point of falling ill, but that's not enough - she has to literally sacrifice her own life as well. It doesn't sit right with me at all. She deserves better. (On a lighter note, I like that Allura has a very feminine appearance and that this is not implied to be a weakness. Additionally, she and Pidge are never placed into any sort of hierarchy with each other as women).
Keith is a super interesting character. He doesn't come off as someone who has serious "discipline issues" so much as someone who struggles with social situations. I like that he has the opportunity to learn how to trust and care for other people in addition to Shiro. He works to reign in his self sabotaging tendencies and finds that his life has just as much value as anyone else's. Also: Keith is the only person, animated or real, who will ever look good with a mullet.
A Keith/Lance rivals-to-lovers storyline would have been *chef's kiss* I would have enjoyed more screen time between the two of them not only because their interpersonal antics are hilarious, but also because I just get the ~vibe~ that Lance in particular is aggressively performing heterosexuality and that this somehow ties into the way that the show explores his general struggle with feelings of inadequacy. He's silly, but complex. I do appreciate that Lance begins to grow into his own and that he and Keith develop some level of mutual respect for each other by the end of the series, though.
The Lance/Allura thing is cute but doesn't make much sense because there is no buildup. Lance obviously has a crush on her throughout the series, but Allura's reciprocation feels really random.
Slav is what anxiety feels like.
I know that Voltron is a mecha war story, but I just would have loved to see more of a focus on the dynamics between the characters. The writers have said that the show is not really about relationships, which is fine, but that assertion kind of betrays the reality of the series, doesn't it? We learn a lot about Pidge's family, and her dedication to finding her dad and brother. We piece together Keith's and Shiro's traumatic backgrounds, and how they have come to be such close friends. We learn about the complicated, abusive dynamics between Lotor, Haggar/Honerva, and Zarkon, including their implications for broader relations throughout the universe (also: I think Lotor could have had an interesting redemption arc). But in addition to all of this ... What about Hunk's and Lance's backgrounds? What were their lives like before the garrison? What about Allura's memories of her life before Altea was destroyed (e.g., her relationship with her father in particular)? What about how Keith patched things up with his mom when they suddenly came back into each others' lives (we just ... watched them come out of the quantum abyss after a brief montage that's supposed to represent a span of two years and now they're okay)? I think these things would have added a lot of substance and nuance to the show, and may have also heightened its stakes. I don't know.
It was an engaging series. I liked the animation and (many of) the characters. I just think that it could have been more.
Anyway ... look at me railing on about a show aimed at children. I think I'm gonna go watch She-Ra and the Princesses of Power next lmao

Marvel/Voltron AU.
Name: Takashi Shirogane aka Shiro Age: 25 - 35 Affiliations: Galaxy Garrison, SWORD, new SHIELD
King Alfor of Altea discovered the birth rock of the six infinity stones. The elements were infused by the power of each of the stones and from it, he created the six lions, formidable weapons, wielded by six powerful paladins to foster peace around the universe.
Black Lion - Power Stone - grants the user unnaturally powerful strength Red Lion - Reality Stone - grants the user the ability to change reality and transform matter Blue Lion - Space Stone - grants the user the ability to travel between places instantaneously Yellow Lion - Mind Stone - grants the user the ability to manipulate minds of others Green Lion - Time Stone - grants the user the ability to control time White Lion - Soul Stone - power unknown / ability to control a person's soul
*Note: the lions do not hold the same capabilities as the stones themselves, they have inherited watered down characteristics of the stones, but still means they’re incredibly powerful.
Zarkon, the Black Paladin at the time and his would-be wife Honerva were obsessed with unlocking the secrets of the Power Stone and it's elemental base --- seeking a substance called Quintessence that mirrored the effects of the stone since the stone itself was unseekable. They eventually succumbed to the consuming effects of Quintessence, becoming evil beings driven by greed and selfishness, resulting in a ten thousand year long siege of the Galra Empire against the universe.
In his last act, King Alfor banished the six lions far and wide across the universe, sending them the same way as the stones - lost and therefore unable to be exploited by creatures of evil.
Note: the paladins are unable to form Voltron until they find the White Lion in Oriande - potentially Lotor's plan all along, seeing as he was carrying on Honerva (his mother)'s research. The White Lion is piloted by Princess Allura and forms the "heart" of Voltron.
Zarkon eventually obtains the Power Stone after it was put away for safe-keeping, increasing his power and his thirst for universal domination, and also putting a target on his back for other power hungry beings who have their own agenda for the universe.
In the 21st century, the Galaxy Garrison launches their furthest yet deep space mission to Kerberos, captained by Takashi Shirogane, known to most as just Shiro. Their presence is picked up by a scouting Galra spaceship and Shiro, Matt Holt and Sam Holt are abducted without a trace. Shiro and Matt are sold off to fight in the Galra gladiator trials for entertainment, while Sam's intellectual prowess is exploited in a Galra prison camp. Shiro spends over a year in captivity. He would lose his right arm from the bicep down in a fight, for it to be replaced by a weaponised prosthesis that makes him even more formidable in the arena, earning him the moniker, "Champion."
Shiro is freed from captivity by Ulaz, a member of the Galra resistance (Blade of Marmora) who understood that Zarkon was too corrupt for the something like the infinity stones or the lions to end up in his hands. He had also heard of rumours of Thanos' movements in the universe, more radio chatter about the infinity stones and the lions than ever before. A member of the Blades, Krolia, had tipped Ulaz off that one of the lions was located on Earth and he helps Shiro escape in the hopes that he can get to the lion before Zarkon can - and Shiro also wants to make sure the lion is far away from Earth so Earth doesn't get caught in the crossfire of these intergalactic beasts, knowing that Earth was a long way away from being able to stand against such giants, even with supersoldiers and gods helping to defend the planet.
Back on Earth, the Garrison is frustratingly unhelpful in following up with Shiro's story or in sending a search party out for Matt and Sam Holt, more interested in the Galra tech of his arm than the urgency of which they need to find the Lion located on Earth. Shiro's research, with the help of Keith and by association, Lance, Pidge and Hunk, takes him to the discovery of the Tesseract (also known as the Space Stone) which had been on Earth during the 2012 Chitauri attack thanks to Loki's sceptre.
Pulling what data they can about the Space Stone, Hunk and Pidge are able to emulate its energy readings and finally track down the Blue Lion. Lance is able to pilot the lion and the five of them are jettisoned into space where they meet Coran and Princess Allura and decide that they have a responsibility to undo the havoc that Zarkon has wreaked across the universe for the last ten thousand years by tracking down the rest of the Lions. The fact that Thanos was rumoured to have another infinity stone in his possession was also worrisome.
The lions were not designed to act as a weapon against the wielder of the six stones, the stones simply gave the lions their magical properties. However, as Voltron, it may stand a fighting chance.
The Black, Red, Green and Yellow Lions are found easily enough, and they found Blue on Earth. The sixth member of the pack is more difficult to find. With the unexpected help of Prince Lotor, (Zarkon's son), they are able to defeat Zarkon - however this doesn't end the Galra reign, nor the chaos growing in the universe. Haggar, harbouring a suspicious obsession for Zarkon, manages to steal the Reality Stone from Thanos, in the hopes that the stone and the Red Lion would somehow allow her to bring back Zarkon (who is later revealed to be her husband). This creates a war between Haggar and Thanos which buys the Paladins time to find the missing Lion in order to form Voltron in for them to have even a fighting chance against whoever shall wield the six infinity stones.
The team endure a lot as just five lions without ever forming Voltron before they finally find the White Lion in Oriande, to be piloted by Princess Allura. With the battlefield levelled up, they decide to take the fight to Thanos, before he can find the last of the Infinity Stones - but it comes little too late when half the living things around them, including three of the group of seven vanish into dust before their very eyes.
Unable to form Voltron, it takes Shiro, and his three remaining teammates three years to return to Earth, helping planets thrown into disarray by the Blip where they can, but for the most part, there is no hope of recovery and the heaviness of their failure to stop this from happening hangs over their heads. When they do reach Earth, it's as desolate and in despair as much of the rest of the universe. Shiro and the paladins join forces with Natasha's watch team, keen to keep an eye on the Universe's movement in case new of familiar faces and friends they've made along the way pop up.
When the Avengers successfully pull off the “time heist,” Voltron is there for the final showdown with Thanos. (Because of Voltron’s assistance, they may be able to just kill Thanos and handle Thanos’ armies on their own - without Iron Man having to make that dying wish, but that’s open to interpretation).

Hahah Dayak def gives off proud nanny vibes and she would definitely have shown the team pics of baby lotor lol. For the druids, I always felt that Macidus came from the planet that the druids and blades had destroyed but your headcanons about Altean Druids and their origin was interesting :D sO, What do u think is the team dynamic between Krolia and Kolivan? To me personally they give off comrade vibes. I feel like K^2 are good friends considering the fact they are both co-leaders wdy think?
This is a very interesting question. This one will probably be very short and I will add on to it as we approach the weekend. I just wanted to respond with something since it has been sitting in my inbox for a couple of days.
It appears that Krolia may be exactly like Kolivan when it comes to leadership but is more subtle with it. A classic example of this is her exchange with Keith just before Trugg broke into her base. Keith kept running his mouth as she responded in a motherly way as Kolivan would not have. He probably would have told him to stop whining. In the episode “The Ruins”, Kolivan and Krolia seem to have great chemistry and that could also be another factor as to why they are going to help lead the Galra empire with Keith. I found it rather surprising that Kolivan was with Keith in the hospital and smiled. Both probably trained together at a young age and during Zarkon’s horrific reign and they were the last remaining members of the group. If you think about it, Kolivan could be a guardian and help Krolia parent with Keith (many tumblr users have joked about this in the past). Kolivan seems to be the guy and will do anything he can to protect (the blades at the time) Krolia and Keith from any harm. Although he acts like the tuff guy and “the mission is more important than the individual”, we saw that he cares about Keith and his well-being. In all, yes they have a great, professional relationship with each other and this is why they are great leaders for BOM and if they decided to expand the group, it will be easier to recruit people because they don’t have to hide anymore. I guess the mission of the Blades would switch from trying to take down a tyrant to helping out citizens especially during a natural disaster.
I’m sorry this response was short; this question was a bit hard, lol and I can’t remember as much about Krolia, but thanks for the question. As usual, you are welcome to ask more!

Get ready to form voltron!
Obligatory warning for a long post ahead: Whilst I know this post may be intimidating to some people. please do not let it put you off from reaching out to me :) “I say vol and you say tron! Vol…..” “Eh.... voltron?” “We’ll work on it.” Hello everyone! I hope you’re all doing well and that you’ve been able to stay safe and healthy during the pandemic (and that the easing of some restrictions depending on where you are has not negatively affected you). After binge watching legendary defender on netflix I’ve had the undying and uncontrollable urge to do a voltron rp. Now I bet you’re all wondering what I want and if you’re going to get to do some shipping.......we’ll I guess you’re just going to have to read on and find out. I’m looking for literate rper’s only. That means people who write in third person past tense, can give me at the very least one well thought out and fleshed paragraph (as well as be willing to write more when the situation calls for it) and has a decent grasp on their spelling, grammar and punctuation. I will not yell at you for the occasional bout of typonese but one liners, one worders, poorly written responses and lazy writing in general will not keep me around. If I can’t read what you’ve written and you’re not willing to put some effort in or correct it then there’s no point in me sticking around. I also require rper’s who’ve actually watched voltron whether it be legendary defender, defender of the universe or voltron force. If you’re someone whose a stickler for canon accuracy then I’m probably not the rper for you. When I rp in a fandom setting I treat it a bit like a base as in there’s rules to follow but I don’t have to follow them as if I’m reading the show script. To put it simply I value creativity and ideas that allow a different take on the characters and what could’ve happened. I only rp male alien or alien hybrid characters and they’re premade but flexible in how they’re written. I do not have pictures nor do I desire to spend endless hours of time to find a face claim of a creature that isn’t the typical different coloured humanoids you see in voltron. I have descriptions and that’s it. I do not care if your character is made up on the spot or if you prefer to rp as a canon character. Shippers......I’m sorry but I will not rp a canon character as anything other than a side. I do not rp them as mains so if you were looking for some sheith or klance I’m sorry to disappoint you. That being said you are free to play as any canon character you desire or an oc as I’m open to oc x oc pairings or oc x canon pairings (you being the canon character) and I do either MxM or FxM pairings. Romance and non fade to black smut will both occur in the rp but it must be slow burn. I do not do fast paced love at first sight as it’s just not something that holds my interest. No sub dom dynamics, switch dynamics only and please no characters whose entire personality is just one emotion or one trait they have. Guys.....please don’t call my aliens furries or whatever. I don’t rp generic spray painted humans and we’re rping in a world full of wacky and crazy aliens that have fur, scales, tails, multiple arms, etc so I find it Incredibly annoying to have a label forced on my character like it’s a bad thing. Alien means something not from earth, if a human was to be born on altea or daibazzal, it’d be considered an alien despite probably being a hundred percent human. If your view and comfort zone is restricted to aliens that look like an altean and nothing else then you needn’t not message me. I’m not going to make you rp with me if this is a dealbreaker so if you don’t heed this warning then you do not be rude after pulling a shocked pikachu. Be mature about it if you realise it’s a deal breaker rather than just blocking or suddenly deciding you no longer want to talk to me and that you’ll just ignore me till I unfriend you. DO NOT COME TO ME SAYING OR ASKING YOU WANNA DO A SHEITH RP/ DO YOU RP AS THESE CANON CHARACTERS! I cannot stress this enough. I don’t know how I can make it any clearer that I do not do canon character mains nor do I do rp’s solely for the purpose of shipping said rp characters. As I’ve said before, if you wanna play a canon character go ahead but I will not rp a canon character as anything other than a side. My oc’s are my mains. You and your characters must be 18+. I’m in my twenties and will not rp with a minor, especially since I have mature and adult themes in my rp’s that I do not want to get into trouble for Rping them with someone whose underaged. Underaged characters are just........a big no for the sole fact that my characters are adults and that i do not feel uncomfortable playing against underaged characters. You must be able to give me one or more responses a day. If it’s been two weeks since the last response and you’ve mysteriously disappeared then I’m not going to stick around for the day you decide to answer me. I do not like having my time wasted for any reason. My time zone is the eastern Australian time zone but I’m available and awake at odd hours so time zones aren’t too big of an issue for me. Remember that I’m looking for a long term partner, someone to carry an rp with for more than just a few days or a week and someone to write multiple stories with. I have tonnes of ideas and head cannons for the rp but I’m open to brainstorming and ideas. We can mix and match ideas till we get something we both like. I want this to be a shared job, don’t expect me to be the one to carry everything just cause I’m the one supplying the idea. Down below I’ve decided to list a couple of ideas that I have: New school defenders: the paladins of voltron have been defending the universe for years. Many stories of their countless victories, battles and struggles are something that every parent who was alive during the war told their children. Once the main three were taken out (haggar, lotor and zarkon) the paladins settled down to teaching the garrisons new generation of cadets. The new change in curriculum was welcome for many as well as a new change in ship style. To make sure that peace could be maintained in every quadrant of every galaxy the paladins of voltron has trained the cadets to fly animal styled space ships like the lions. The animal ship a pilot was assigned depended on their personality, strengths, weaknesses, how well they worked in a team and their style of fighting and piloting skills. The importance of team bonding was something the paladins basically preached. When news of the return of an old foe forces the paladins to return to their jobs as voltrons warriors and they suddenly disappear many write them off as dead or perhaps in distress. None of the superiors are interested to find out..... so who will? Lotor’s reign: It was unbelievable. It couldn’t be true. It had to not be true. Voltron taken down by lotor, son of the mighty emperor zarkon himself, and the paladins were now working for him without question as his top generals?! When the news had first hit many people had panicked whilst countless others had been slain for daring to believe and protest that it was all just some lie made up by the half galran prince who was now an emperor like his father before him. Princess Allura herself was locked away in an unknown location after refusing the cruel man’s hand in marriage so she is no help for what is now a lost hope. Lotor’s reign had well and truly begun all those years ago and it was holding steady. People had forgotten long ago that even in complete and utter darkness….one can always find a speck of light that burns bright no anger how small. Mirror mirror: For many years people believed the galra were a race of cruel, vicious, animalistic thinking beings whose only goal was to destroy and conquer words. No one would’ve ever believed that it was the peacekeeping alteans that had been working to plot the galaxy’s downfall. Voltron, belonged to the galrans, they’d been the ones who’d built it after all despite letting alfor pilot voltron’s right arm. When the king had been turned down on his idea to share the mighty robotic war machine he simply built his own. Five dragons that formed dracotron were what the alteans used as their voltron and weapon to conquer the galaxies. Emperor zarkon, under the advice of Haggar the witch, was one of the few world leaders who managed to get his people to safety. Ever since watching the great kingdoms that he’d known for almost ten thousand years fall under the alteans greed and obsession for power over peace, he prayed for miracle in whatever form he could get it in. When two young stragglers end up stranded on the galra’s second home world, the cards of fate are laid according to haggar, much to everyone else’s confusion. What could two lost souls possibly do to bring back what was lost to the alteans? Gamora’s guns: The guns of Gamora was a rebel group with the goal of foiling any plans of the altean empress allura. Led by the brave commander Sven and his somewhat neurotic sidekick Slav, the gun’s were spread far across the galaxy in little pockets of altean dominated space to keep tabs on the empires schemes and try their best to counteract them. The new recruits were aliens and humans from far and wide working together hand in hand to try and prevent a reign of terror from truly taking over. When plans for creating a super weapon fall on the ears of a trusted source, the newest batch of recruits are sent to locate, find and bring back the blueprints. Of course, such things are easier said than done. The chosen: Keith.lance.hunk.shiro (or Sven, depends on whether you want this to follow a legendary defender type story arc or one of the older series). Allura. Pidge. These were names that belonged to the universe's greatest heroes. Legends beyond all compare. They were champions of the universe and paladins of the mightiest robotic warrior to have ever been built: voltron. The great robot and the lions that formed it were well over ten thousand years old…..sadly for the paladins, they knew that they wouldn’t live to or beyond the great age their lions and oldest enemies had. The galaxy garrison had worked extra hard on ensuring that the next generation of pilots would be suitable candidates for the possibility of becoming voltron’s future paladins. Each paladin chose a student whom they felt like would be the most suitable to take their place and trained them with the knowledge that they were not the ones who had the final decision as to who flew who…..or even if they’d fly at all. What happens when one student fails and is rejected by not one but all the lions? What becomes of them and what is their place on team voltron? What happens to the rest of the team? Only time will tell, according to coran, such a thing has never happened before…...but what happens if it does? From all walks of life to the universe's greatest heroes: Shouldn’t have to explain this one too much. Forget the show paladins, bring your oc’s or next gens onto the table and let them take the stage! Before we reach the end of the post, here are some important reminders: 1: NO REACHING OUT TO ME ASKING FOR A CANON CHARACTER SHIPPING RP! I DO NOT DOUBLE SO DO NOT ASK! 2: DONT MESSAGE ME IF YOU’RE UNCOMFORTABLE WITH NOT VERY HUMANOID ALIENS! 3: NO GARY STU’S OR MARY SUES! GIVE YOUR CHARACTERS A PERSONALITY THAT ISN’T JUST ONE EMOTION OR TRAIT ONLY! For those who’ve read this thoroughly thank you and congratulations! If you’re at all interested please send me a request via one of the contacts below that says who you wanna be, which lion or paladin you think you’d most likely to be if you were in voltron, which idea you liked (or one of your own) and the numbers 123 to confirm you’ve read everything. My discord: tiberionsunsconqourer#6187 My telegram: Tiberionwars My hangouts: [email protected] Hope to write some awesome stories! Will accept requests as long as this ad is up.

Klance PJO Au
Lance is a second generation descendant of Poseidon
And he along with the rest of the world is doomed
Nyx and her children have built an empire and shrouded the west in darkness
Olympus has fallen and all those who remain opposed to the darkness live and fight together at Camp Halfblood
And while the camp is protected by Nyx’s children, Hemera and AIther Lance thinks there is very little hope for survival
Shiro is already missing along with Matt
They were sent on a quest after Shiro was claimed by Zeus
As if being a child of the big three was going to help when the big three themselves were hiding in the camp
Even Keith, one of their best fighters is missing
Having disappeared not long after Shiro
The only hope is the prophecy
When the child of the enemy returns The darkness will fall to a light that burns Lead by those who survived the night Protected by the daughter of magic’s might Blue, Black, Yellow, Green and Red From lion’s roar the end will spread
Which Lance thinks is bullshit until he, Hunk and Pidge see a light outside the camp
They sneak off to find it
What they find is Keith and Shiro
They all go back to the camp
And everyone is asking questions as to how Keith survived
Which is promptly followed by him being claimed by Nyx
A crescent moon appearing above him
Immediately he is shunned
Nyx obviously doesn’t have a cabin and the Hermes kids don’t want anything to do with him
But it’s actually Lance who comes to comfort him
He sits next to Keith at his empty table
“I’m glad you’re alive.” He mutters quietly before beginning to eat
And Keith stares at him with a grateful if confused expression
The gods hold a council and they realise that the five who returned together fit the description of those in the prophecy
So they send them out on a quest to stop the darkness
Keith leads them to his hideout
A cave lit by a sleeping, glowing blue ethereal cat
“It’s been asleep like that since I found it. I can’t wake it up.”
But as Lance strokes it the cat immediately wakes
Circling around Lance
Keith stares at him in awe
The cat leads them to another lit haven
There they find Matt who introduces them to Allura, daughter of Hecate who shows them the cat under her protection, this one purple
Which wakes at Shiro’s touch
She then gives them the locations for the other cats
Shiro and Pidge head to fetch the green cat while Lance and Hunk fetch the yellow
She then tells Keith there is one more cat but it is guarded by Ker the goddess of violent death and Keres her spirits
Allura insists on taking them in her light chariot
Which was a gift from her mom to the camp
They get there, to a large fight
Everyone is hurt is some way or another
Lance taking a shot for Keith so he can get to his cat
And it is only due to the combined light of all five cats that they are saved
Driving Ker away
They go back to the camp to heal
Keith thanks Lance softly for protecting him
Lance shrugs bashfully
“We’re a good team.”
Then out of the darkness Lotor shows up
He’s the son of Nox, Nyx’s roman counterpart and he reveals that he and Hekate have been working together to end the reign of darkness
The cats are a fail safe from her
Knowing how strong her mother was
He says they need to find the Nemean lion
He says that its with the Hesperides
Lance is suspicious especially since Keith and Lotor are now spending a lot of time together
What if he’s seducing Keith to make him evil?
But both Allura and Keith seem to believe him so they go with him
They retrieve the lion but all their adventures has alert Nyx to their presence
She and all her children arrive to fight
However, the cats merge with the Nemean lion to make an impenetrable force of nature, imbued with the elements
Each of the demigods is shrouded in mystical light and Lance finds he can manipulate water for the first time
The light attracts attention and the fight is joined by all the other gods and demigods
The darkness is banished, and in the lull of the aftermath Keith sits on the edge of Lance’s infirmary bed and smiles at him
“I’m glad you’re alive”
He holds Lance’s hand and they watch the first sunrise through the window

I didn't realize you were so critical of Voltron's writing. Is there anything you think the writers did really well?
Not… really?
The one episode that sticks out to me as having been well-written was an episode in season 3–the one where Keith is leading them into that planet and all their tech gets screwed to hell. It works on a lot of levels because it introduces Lotor as a scary villain, establishes Allura as inexperienced while giving her the chance to learn, and shows Keith learning a lesson while Lance gets to stretch his legs as an actual competent member of the team. What I loved about it though was the lesson Keith learned onscreen and how he learned it–we got to see actual development as well as him opening up to another member of the team other than Shiro. It’s one of the best episodes in the series and really goes to show what Voltron could have been if the writers actually knew what they were doing. I assume, at this point, that the episode was merely a happy accident.
Now that isn’t to say Voltron doesn’t have memorable moments for other reasons–the scene where Keith and Shiro fight was wonderfully animated and probably the most beautiful looking scene in the whole series, but that doesn’t mean how we got there was as good by comparison.
One of Voltron’s biggest problems (among other glaring issues) is that it relies heavily on concepts, but pretty much fails to expand those concepts into actual narrative development. We’re told via Hunk’s one episode in the Galra empire that he’s become quite the diplomat, but we never see that in action or see him struggling with that arc at any other point in the series. We’re told Lance has become a great member of the team by seeing his sword form during training, but we rarely get to see those skills in action. And yeah, Lance takes up giving commands when Keith and Shiro are busy, but it’s never highlighted. He’s never given his moment to truly prove himself to the audience. Which makes it all little different than telling the audience that development is happening offscreen, which you should NEVER do. Which brings me to Keith. Not only was Keith’s path through “development” poorly concocted, but we didn’t even get to see it. Why was he such a great leader after having spent time with his mother? What did that do for him? Fans can speculate all they want, but at the end of the day, Keith is one character when he left and another when he comes back, and WE DIDN’T SEE IT HAPPEN!
This leaves me with one of two conclusions: Either the writers were too lazy to put any effort into telling a proper character arc OR they simply don’t know how. And seeing how poorly every other character in the series is handled, I’d bet on the latter. The Voltron writers don’t know how to do their jobs on the most basic level. Even Shiro, the second-shining child of the series after Keith, doesn’t get any development. He’s got PTSD, sure, but he’s literally the exact same character he was in the beginning as he is now, much like the rest the cast. What would have made Shiro’s character really great would maybe be some regret on his end, or some self-doubt following his PTSD issues, or maybe a loss of confidence he had to overcome or literally ANYTHING! Instead he’s relegated to a plot device.
Which brings me to another glaring issues with Voltron alongside the character development–they’re taking what should be a character-driven narrative and pretending it’s a plot-driven narrative.
You want to know why Voltron was so promising from the start? Because it had a perfect premise for character building. It was like Avatar the Last Airbender but in space. You had a big baddy in the distance that the characters had to work their own skills up to in order to face. It gave the characters time to explore both themselves and the world around them, while still retaining a goal that implemented a sense of urgency. Which is why the originally episodic storytelling of Voltron in the first season worked so well and why the series seemed so promising. Each episode had a different character or couple of characters that had a problem they needed to overcome before the resolution of the episode, or a couple of episode as they sometimes did them in twos. This is a good format for storytelling with a big cast because it gives each character the turn they deserve, while still giving time for things like comedic relief and problem solving/conversations between characters, which is the FOOD of character development. Being able to have two character sit down and simply chat is the main course of character development and interpersonal relationships, hence Shiro and Pidge’s relationship was so precious in the first season, and why people latched onto Keith and Lance so hard, because they were constantly snarking at one another.
The problem comes with season 3, where the writers tried to change Voltron from an episodic format into a serial format while trying to retain the same tone. Serial storytelling has an overarching pot that the characters work toward the whole season–like all of a season is a single episode. Yes, Voltron already had an overarching plot, but it was secondary to the character story-telling. That was, until season three, when the writers decided that they wanted the story to be “epic all the time” instead of sticking to what was originally good.
Avatar the Last Airbender isn’t good because it’s epic all the time. It’s good because it’s well-balanced. Because the characters got the time to build themselves up so that when those epic moments finally happened, the audience actually cared. Voltron decided that they wanted to be edgy and took all of that away from us to make the show serial and focus more entirely on the end plot instead of each individual character’s struggles. They tried to retain a bit of this, but in contrast with the more serial episodes, it feels like whiplash. This is why season 3′s tone is so vastly different from season 1 and 2, and why so many people were so shocked. And why it feels so fast.
But the problem is that the writers clearly want to write an episodic show, they just don’t realize they do, which is why we’re getting TOLD character development instead of shown in favor of over the top battles and other “intense” mumbo jumbo that falls flat when anyone takes a moment to sit and think about what they’re watching.
This is why I got so infuriated when all those new characters were introduced in season 7–we don’t even know the characters we got originally and now I’m expected to care about these new ones? No, absolutely not. And this is also why I get angry every time we get a “filler” episode. Avatar had filler episodes, but Avatar was also episodic and used that filler to develop the characters, with the exception of Tales of Ba Sing Se, which was amazingly done for other reasons entirely.
Voltron made itself serial, which means we don’t have time for filler. It’s jarring and takes the viewer out of the experience. I don’t care about a stupid gameshow episode because the writers have made it overly clear that the situation is dire and serious and now I feel like I’ve been slapped. Especially when that filler does nothing for the characters. It’s a waste when they could have been using the time for something more worthwhile. Instead, they just wanted a Q episode, or a D&D episode, as if their storytelling had been good enough prior to earn them that wasted time.
Which brings me to yet another glaring issue that Voltron has–pacing. Not only did the change in storytelling alter the pacing in a way that was jarring for everyone, but they can’t keep up with the pace they decided to set, nor do they know how to keep tension going in the story so as to take advantage of that faster pace they forced on themsleves. Pidge, Lotor, and Zarkon are prime examples of characters whose arcs were slaughtered by this incompetence. Why was Pidge’s search for her brother concluded at the beginning of a season in a standalone episode that is so far outside the serialized plot? Well I can tell you why–because they didn’t know how to integrate it properly with the rest of the story. Which is why it feels like filler. Like fan service. Why it’s so out of the blue. Why is Zarkon’s death so lackluster? Because we’d been told that Zarkon was the big baddy the whole time and then they ended his reign in the middle of a season. Not only do we see Zarkon suddenly in the daylight outside his scary space darkness, but his entrance is lame and lacking impact. And then Lotor, a newer character by contrast, is the one to take him out. Suddenly, the show is without the big baddy that had been pushing it from the beginning, which is glaringly obvious in how disorganized the plot becomes after his death and Lotor’s subsequent defeat. Sorry, but by default of the role she had previously, Haggar is not as scary as Zarkon was, nor is Sendak. It’s like we’re supposed to now watch Voltron clean up the leftovers instead of fight a war, which is fucking stupid. And don’t even get me started on Lotor’s arc. They wanted to make him seem like Zuko and then pull an Azula? Well, sorry hons, but your storytelling capabilities aren’t strong enough to accomplish either.
Lotor was not made sympathetic or psychotic enough to pull off either act, which just makes him fall rather flat. The most interesting thing about him was his relationship with Allura, which was only interesting because we hadn’t gotten any romance yet in the show so everyone was super paying attention to how it’d unfold.
This pacing issue is continuous from season 3 onward. The story regularly takes detours it shouldn’t and focuses on things we don’t care about and interjects important plot-points at the wrong time while completely leaving out others. Like Haggar coming back in season 7. If we’d actually seen a bit of what she was up to, the addition of the last robot to the final fight might have been a little less stupid, but we didn’t see that, so it’s still just regular stupid.
So the characters in Voltron suck, the plot sucks, and the pacing sucks. The only thing that’s saving Voltron is the fact that it looks nice and that the fandom is happy to take concepts and run with them in fan works. There’s a reason the fandom is so happy to explain away everything in the series, because expanding the series for themselves is the only option they have. Voltron itself doesn’t do it on but rare occasions, and if the fan creators didn’t give the characters depth, no one would. Every piece of “character” we get in Voltron is a concept, not actual storytelling. They set up what could be something amazing and then dash it at the last moment by completely ruining everything. People say Voltron never ceases to surprise them, but this isn’t because they’re great storytellers, it’s because of the exact opposite. Voltron rarely follows through with minor plot points set up previously, instead settling to just tell you about them later in favor of laser battles. Lance is insecure? Just give him a sword, he’s fine. Hunk has no development? Give him a short, five minute moment about his family–a family he talked about one other time and a plot point that should have rightfully gone to Lance. Pidge’s “arc” is over? Just have her say a whole bunch of nonsense in the next scene. Need someone to do something cool? Better get Keith since that’s all he’s good for anymore due to his character being so inconsistent. Need some of that quality angst? Throw in Shiro too, because god forbid Keith relate to any of the other characters on a personal level and actually break out of the isolated existence that caused all his character problems in the first place. Oh, and don’t forget Allura, whose overpowered abilities have become such an expected norm and so unexplainable at this point that she’s nothing more than a bore-fest to watch.
Voltron had everything going for it–it could have been great, on par with Avatar the Last Airbender by sheer default of how the original premise was set up and how interesting the characters were to start with. And then the writers screwed it up because they didn’t know how to properly tell the story they’d set up in the first place.
This is why people who don’t watch Voltron or who don’t see anything special about it don’t understand why it’s such a big deal (and why comparing it to Avatar the Last Airbender is such an insult). Why it’s plain toast in comparison to other, better shows. Because anyone who actually takes a step back and looks at the show with more thought than “oh I like this character because of what they could have been,” they’d realize just how badly concocted Voltron is.
I know. I was once one of these people that had faith in the concepts that I eventually realized would never come to fruition. I was happy to ignore the faults in the show because I kept hoping it would get better. But then it never did and all that was left were the faults.
Voltron is not a good show. Like, it’s just literally not well done. The visuals are nice, which is part of the reason it’s gotten so popular. But even if the art is nice, at the end of the day, the writing has been and always will be the heart and soul of any narrative, and if that’s a pile of trash, the entire show will end up that way.

As a Kuron fan, I love this fanvid. It mostly uses clips from Black Paladins, which is Kuron's least sympathetic episode, but it still fills me with emotion.
Kuron gets a bad rap. For basically his whole life, he thought he was Shiro. He woke up disoriented and terrified. He fought his way free from presumed Galra Empire captivity and struggled to get back to Voltron. He nearly DIED in the process. While with Voltron, he struggled through chronic pain (just trying to get rid of this weird headache, as someone with chronic migraines, SAME). He tried to advise the team. When "black paladin" Keith wasn't around, he begged the lion to let him in to ASSIST HIS TEAM AND SAVE REFUGEES. He then took up the mantle of Black Paladin and led the team through Naxela, through Lotor's reign, through everything until his autonomy was ripped from him by Haggar. Even then, as soon as Keith cut off his prosthetic - Haggar's "in" to his brain - he immediately seemed horrified by what he'd done under her control.
This is a man who wanted so desperately to be good that he wouldn't play anything but a paladin in Space D&D.
Kuron had a temper. Kuron played into Haggar's hands. But the whole time, he thought he was Shiro, and he strove to do his best, to be a good person, to save people, to keep the team out of danger. It took full mind control to make him do ANYTHING bad.
"Evil clone" my ass, Kuron was inherently good. Kuron deserved better.

anyways, since the idea won’t leave me alone here’s my pitch for a prince of the galra keith au where lotor doesn’t exist and canon is just a suggestion i guess. (under a cut part ways in bc uhhh it’s like 3.7k words. rip.)
for starters: krolia is human and zarkon’s his dad. a nightmare idea, i know bc uhhhh the same thing that occurs w thinking about how lotor exists is uhh “zarkon fucks?” yeah. yeah he does. which uhhhhh yeah. but bare w me here, bc he’s still an utter dick in this au and krolia is still a badass.
in this au, krolia was married to mr shirogane and had shiro before leaving earth on a garrison solo mission to pluto. she collided with a stolen galra ship manned by a prisoner who was trying to flee the empire, though the galra ship wasn’t damaged her ship was completely destroyed but she managed to survive for the prisoner to bring her aboard. together they tried to escape the empire, but they got caught. the prisoner was executed and krolia was taken to the arena.
(earth believes she crashed her ship in the rings of saturn, and honor her death. no solo manned missions to space anymore, and certainly not to places humans haven’t been before. it also delays plans to send more people up there, so the next manned mission isn’t until shiro’s mission to kerberos. mr shirogane dies a five years before that mission.)
there she fought viciously and won literally every single one of her fights with only a dagger she’d earned early on in her battles. even when they provided bigger weapons, she always came on top with just a knife which earned her high praise and approval. enough to gain zarkon’s attention.
idk why but he forces her to marry him, and when shiro’s 9 years old and krolia’s been in space for 5 years, keith’s born. he doesn’t actually go by keith at this point though because i doubt zarkon would let krolia name him that. not quite sure on what he’d go by though i quite like kyix of discordiansamba’s burgundy. krolia wanted to name him keith, and so calls him that when they’re alone as a secret nickname.
keith doesn’t look fully human. a la lotor style i guess, he looks human but has purple skin and yellow sclera. pointy zarkon-ish ears and fangs. he’s still tiny as fuck though and doesn’t grow, to which he’s furious about bc galra are big and he’s a shorty but no one mentions it to his face otherwise he’d stab them right where they stand.
krolia tries her best to raise him w good morals and lessen zarkon’s influence on him but she doesn’t fully manage it. he’s willing to please zarkon even if he’s not cruel about it, and he does wish for the best for the empire but knowing that his father’s reigned for over ten thousand years, he knows he’s probably never going to sit on the throne himself. doesn’t prevent him from getting all the training a prince would need (including a lot of combat training).
he’s never told much about earth because krolia finds it hard to talk about. she does tell him about humans as a species and teaches him the three earth languages she knows, korean (her native language), japanese (mr shirogane’s native language) and english. she especially doesn’t tell him about shiro, but she does say that she left a husband and her family behind on earth, that she misses them a lot.
back on earth, shiro goes to kerberos when he’s 26 (two years older than canon) and they still get caught. most canonical events in the year time zone go almost exactly the same. shiro gets sent to the arena, matt and sam still get sent off to the camps before matt’s broken out by the resistance, katie goes undercover as pidge, and lance and hunk are just regular dudes, but lance is in fighter class straight off the bat.
(to earth, shiro crashes the ship and dies just like his mother did. which is......all kinds of sad to think about.)
except when shiro lands on earth, the garrison trio decide to break shiro out on their own. they then steal a jeep and head out into the desert, finding a nice guy who owns a shack (canon keith’s father but not in this au, who im gonna call mr fireman bc he doesn’t have a canon name). he’s been doing some investigating some funky stuff (the lion), and lets the kids crash at his place bc kids shouldn’t be wandering the desert w/o any supplies at night it’s dangerous.
anyways, the shack conversation all goes almost exactly the same w mr fireman taking keith’s place. he goes with the kids, but he doesn’t get in the blue lion, she doesn’t let him in. mr fireman parts ways with the kids friendly-like, and the four of them head off to arus.
things.....largely? stay the same? when it comes to stealing the red lion off the ship, they actually have to get the lions to drag it out of the cargo bay because they don’t have a pilot for it but as long as the lion is out of the empire’s hands, that’s all that matters although allura does try to pilot it when sendak’s ship is destroyed. due to having no pilot, they can’t retrieve black for shiro. so they only have three active lions, but three lions are still pretty powerful.
from there i haven’t exactly worked out all the kinks but somehow they get in contact with rebels from their steady liberation of galra-controlled planets. they do small targets, taking out the weakest on the fringe of the empire and build up footholds while building the coalition. shiro fights with them on the ground, and using the castle with coran and allura when it’s not possible. sometimes he rides along with the other paladins.
sometime before they go the galactic hub, and skipping over crystal venom entirely, they join forces with the rebels and the coalition to pull off a mission to kill zarkon. they’d received intelligence to suggest that he’s visiting a less secure ship, to oversee a project for a few days. instead of taking the lions and just blasting the ship to pieces, they decide to infiltrate and take him out stealth like to guarantee his death.
only the information is faulty because it’s keith there instead of zarkon.
when they learn that keith is zarkon’s son.......they kidnap him.
their goal was to hold him hostage and/or interrogate him for weak spots in the empire, but somehow they end up thinking “hm maybe he can be redeemed bc his dad is literally an asshole and ehhh he can’t help who his parents are?” so they give him a chance....tentatively.
keith, seeing this huge opportunity to sabotage his father’s greatest opponents and eventually steal the lions back for his father, takes this absolutely for granted and fakes his redemption. he basically pulls a lotor, and ends up helping them in certain areas but sabotaging them in others. he’s unable to report back to his father for spying purposes, but he does leave clues and/or hints to weaknesses somehow. all the while, the real reason for these things going wrong isn’t thought of.
all the while, the paladins are trying to bond with keith. trying to get him to redeem himself, and they end up really liking him even though he’s still rather a loner, doesn’t pretend to be nice and trains like every day. he particularly gets along with shiro, the two of them forming a close bond that keith had not planned or counted on.
allura is the only one who’s still suspicious of keith. she’s not....hostile. not really, she pretty much acts like she does in canon when keith’s heritage gets out. though they do have a few moments where they could maybe see eye to eye. she’s still apprehensive and unwilling to think that zarkon’s son could be anything but evil.
this pays off when she investigates a major hit to the castle that renders it unfit for battle for a time and finds that keith was responsible for it.
at this point, keith has been seriously reconsidering his allegiances. thinking that maybe the right thing to do really was to redeem himself and help out voltron and coalition. he’s not completely blind to the shitty things zarkon did, he’s well aware but he figures that maybe getting his father’s approval isn’t worth all the suffering of others nor something to desire.
allura attacks keith and calls him out in front of everyone. providing evidence of literally all the times that keith’s fucked them all over. the team feel betrayed, keith is super guilty, and allura’s just pissed. keith doesn’t get a chance to explain before he’s thrown into a prison cell on the castle to wait until voltron can contact the coalition and decide what to do with him because it’s clear that zarkon hasn’t exactly been hurrying to find him.
but then zarkon attacks the castle of lions with a massive fleet headed by haggar, a force that’s way too much for just three lions to take on while the castle’s defenses are still down. the whole team is in trouble and it pretty much starts to seem like zarkon’s gonna win and the paladins are gonna get killed.
until the red lion reaches out for keith.
so he breaks out of prison (that he could have done within minutes of being confined there), and heads to the hangar. he jumps in and uses the element of surprise to disable the fleet enough to make them need to retreat.
the paladins are freaking out because uhhhh who the hell is the pilot of the lion? they do a little sound off like “allura that’s not you? coran? shiro?” but then keith uses the lion to communicate and basically says “sorry i broke out jail”.
when they get back to the castle keith awkwardly does a heartfelt explanation of his plans and how the paladins actually did sort of make him want to redeem himself and realise just how much zarkon needs to get murked and stuff. he apologises for fucking them over and he even offers to go with whatever punishment they decide to dish out with no retaliation.
the team go off and talk for a while. debating if they could really trust him anymore. allura is adamantly against it, pissed off that he’d already betrayed her trust after all zarkon did and the fact he piloted her father’s lion. lance joins her, upset he trusted him at all. pidge and hunk are apprehensive, pointing out that the lion must have seen the good in him to choose him. shiro believes in what keith’s saying and has faith in the kid to actually redeem himself.
they tell him he can stay but the only reason he’s not dead and/or serving time in prison is bc he’s the red paladin. they make a lot of rules about what he’s allowed to do and not to do though, which keith doesn’t enjoy but he doesn’t complain about them. one of them is that he’s only allowed to fight the empire in the red lion and no on the ground stuff.
now that the team have the red lion’s paladin they awaken the black lion and they form voltron for the first time. it’s badass, and the liberating of planets goes even faster than before.
the paladins start to bond again even slower than before bc they need to rebuild that trust. it goes....pretty rockily considering the fact that keith is still pretty prickly in personality, and the others aren’t entirely convinced he’s actually changed sides. but shiro is essentially the only one that actually makes any headway in rebuilding the trust/relationship.
one night he asks about keith’s mom. bc human far out in space? as far as the team knew there should have only been them and the holts, so he’s definitely curious. keith tells him about a pilot who’d been picked up in their solar system after their ship got destroyed and took them as prisoner. he tells shiro all about his mom and what she taught him of earth.
but shiro. he starts to wonder who on earth this pilot was. because, uh, only very few pilots have gone missing in space and one of them is important to him. so he asks her name. keith replies krolia. shiro asks “as in...krolia kogane?” and keith’s like yeah.
shiro mentally freaks out, doing mental acrobats all over the place but his thoughts mostly boiling down to a mixture of “HOLY SHIT MY MOM’S ALIVE” and “HOLY SHIT I HAVE A HALF-BROTHER WHO’S AN ALIEN PRINCE”. he manages not to let keith know he’s freaking out, and excuses himself.
they end up doing a covert blood test and yup keith is shiro’s half brother. this earns him points in “okay yeah he’s capable of change if we warm up to him”, so the team start to treat him more favorably, not that keith is aware of this new revelation. so it’s common knowledge to the ship minus keith. shiro tries even harder to bond w his little brother, bc uhhh yeah he’s never had a little brother and he definitely likes keith so far even though he was a little evil for a while.
keith at some point expresses to shiro why he’s fine with not telling zarkon that keith’s on the paladins’ side. that his mother would most likely be killed for turning him against zarkon due to the fact that paladins are humans, and that she’s still at central command completely unable to get away. like a glorified prisoner because, well, she is.
shiro suggests to the team that they pull off a rescue mission to free krolia, not only for keith’s sake but for shiro’s sake too. plus the fact that she’d been a prisoner for twenty three years. which then kicks of the finale of season 1. (yes we’re still in season 1. it should have been way longer than it actually was.)
things go largely the same, except that in allura’s place it’s krolia. when keith charges at zarkon his identity is revealed to him. they manage to rescue krolia, keith fights zarkon and thace destroys the shield holding them in place. they don’t go through a corrupted wormhole though.
then there’s a cute heartfelt reunion between keith and krolia. during which keith emotes more than he ever has in front of the paladins, who have pretty much all accepted that yep keith’s a good guy now considering he almost fought to the death with zarkon.
but then shiro steps up and calls krolia mom which confuses the fuck out of keith, the only one who doesn’t know. krolia shakily says “Kashi?” and they tearfully hug, krolia completely caught off guard that her other son wasn’t on earth where she left him. keith is confusion until krolia explains, and keith asks if that means shiro is his brother. they say yes and they have a big old threeway hug, to which lasts for like an hour because its big family bonding time. everyone is happy for them.
you’d think, huh is this the end of the au? this is pretty long already.....nope!! we’re just getting started!!! (this thing is a monster......hence why im never going to even attempt to write it out lmao)
we go into season 2 where krolia starts to talk to the others about the rebel galra group that she helped and kind of joined called the blade of marmora. she tells them that there was a galra named thace who kept her in the loop about keith, and the goings on of voltron. she tells them that they would be a very good ally in the fight against zarkon.
shiro then backs this story up with his memory of how ulaz helped him escape jail, and says that they should trust them. the team tentatively agree, but decide not to immediately go to them and focus more on building the coalition. krolia pulls keith aside and gives them a knife that they had given her to protect herself as zarkon prohibited her to carry weapons. its keith’s marmora blade that she was unable to activate because of her lack of galra blood, but they gave it to her to protect herself anyways.
canon largely stays the same for a while. zarkon still does the tracking thing, except when allura and keith go out in a pod, krolia comes with them. they have a little thing where they make clear with each other where they stand and end up having a little fun despite the tense atmosphere until the castle is attacked by zarkon.
when the team meet up with the blades, keith demands why they didn’t help krolia themselves. they’d already proved with shiro that they could free prisoners if they wanted to, and demands to know why they didn’t risk it for krolia. he wants to know why they never took a bigger part in taking down the empire and why they never stepped forwards to work with voltron themselves instead of letting the team come to them.
kolivan says that he only gets the answers, an alliance between them and gets to keep the blade if he joins as a member of their order and take the trials. keith accepts. the rest of the blades however, don’t like the idea that the son of zarkon was joining up and taking the trials. but when keith passes and pretty much immediately tries to kill memory zarkon on sight, he proves himself to them. the blades ally with the coalition and voltron.
again, season 2 goes quite a lot like canon. except!!! in the finale they actually do end up killing zarkon along with haggar and shiro doesn’t go missing! hurray!!!
but. that means with no prince lotor, and a dead zarkon instead of comatose zarkon, there’s no one to lead the empire. hence a kral zera is called.
(here is where i mention i have vague memories of s3 onwards and haven’t seen past s4. so i don’t...actually know how most canon events from here on out go in explicit detail. its all pretty vague.)
the plan from there is for keith to attend and win. if he gets crowned the new emperor, he could officially announce the end of the war, and significantly reduce the amount of fighting the resistance would have to do to bring peace to the known universe. the coalition & blades don’t fully trust keith however, thinking that once keith is on the throne he’ll just betray them.
keith understands and explains he doesn’t actually want the throne. he suggests that they just kill everyone on the planet when the kral zera is called, with no more candidates, the empire will be severely fractured and would still be easier to defeat than having a leader. in the end, they go with the idea of having keith become emperor, but the coalition there in case people fight back against his orders.
keith wins, some back down and obey and some don’t. the coalition and voltron take down those that fight back, and from there it’s a lot of “keith orders galra to release planets and those that don’t, get liberated by the resistance”. its a lot of politics where keith frees all the prisoners of the empire, lets them get back to their home planets and finds sam returning him to pidge and matt.
he sets up a colony in an empty solar system for the civilian galra to live governed by the blades, while he sees to it that those that were soldiers are put on trial and punished for their various crimes.
again, still not entirely sure what happens in late canon, but i guess from there it does the whole...sendak takes earth thing? but it’s actually a pretty easy mission considering they have the might of the entire coalition (which is almost the entire universe at that point) and the blades and voltron. but after the defeat of sendak there pretty much isn’t any opposing galra resistance to keith’s reign? so from then on it’s just the paladins, allura, coran and krolia back on earth experiencing things.
krolia busts into the garrison like “hey guess who’s not dead! also meet my alien son who’s king of an entire race of people, and my other son who’s leader of the universe’s most powerful weapon also with a sick glowing arm”. the garrison sweats under the pure power and skill the three of them exude. especially when krolia utterly annihilates all records on their simulators/actual ships. and then keith and shiro join in on it too and they end up giving them all the awards and accolades bc no one is going to top that ever.
the paladins go to disneyland. keith is still technically emperor but considering the blades have been overseeing all galra activity anyways, he’s not really needed. so he just bums around earth for a while, getting to know the other half of his heritage that he never really got to.
krolia meets mr fireman and they end up getting together bc krolia deserves good things and a desert hermit who helped get shiro back into space and eventually to her with is a good thing. they still live out in the shack tho bc mr fireman is committed to it at that point, bc he ended up living there through sendak’s invasion pretty well.
and then uh i think that’s pretty much it. keith is a normal teenager, allura and coran get puzzled by human shit, lance reconnects w his family, hunk does too and cooks a bunch of food and pidge works w the garrison in making it less shitty while also just tagging along with whatever dumb things they decide to experience.
end of au!!!!
#shut up danni#voltron#long post#jesus this thing is long as fuck#now do i tag shit so that people will actually see this thing im really really proud of or do i just...not in an attempt to make it seem#like i don't really care about this au even tho i worked hard on it#bc i don't wanna try too hard but uhhhhhhhh#keith kogane#voltron legendary defenders#prince keith kogane#i guess i'll throw down a few tags#idk if they'll work but worth a shot i guess#hey#hey if you like voltron pls reblog this i worked hard for like an hour or two to write this out#idk my general writing tag

Prison Break
Kidgeweek 2019, Day 3: Crime or Prison AU.
Summary: AU. Keith finds himself locked away after being accused of murdering Prince Lotor. Luckily, a new friend in the cell next to his may just be his ticket to escaping.
Also posted on AO3 and fanfiction.net (under the username kishirokitsune)
Prison Break
Keith bared his teeth in an angry snarl as he was dragged down a hall of cells. The translucent barriers allowed a clear view of each of the prisoners kept there. Some of them jeered or slammed their hands against the barrier as he went by and others ignored him entirely, turning their backs so they didn't have to watch. The guards jerked him to a stop outside one of the cells and then shoved him inside hard enough that he went sprawling to the floor.
He growled low in his throat as he pushed himself up on his hands and knees, but refused to give them more of a reaction than that. His side still ached from their punishment after the last time he “misbehaved” and had no desire to go through that again.
Keith kept his back turned to the guards and waited until he heard the hum of the barrier activating and the sound of heavy footsteps walking away before he stood up.
And that was when the crushing weight of guilt settled over him. “What have I done?”
How had he messed up such a simple mission? He didn't understand. Things had been going so well until suddenly they weren't and Keith found himself surrounded by Imperial soldiers. He was lucky they didn't kill him on the spot!
Keith sat down on the hard mattress that was bolted to the wall and put his head in his hands, trying to think.
“So, what are you in for?”
Keith leaped to his feet, reaching for the blade he no longer had. “Who's there?”
“Take it easy! I'm in the cell next to you. There's a vent that runs between us. See it?”
He frowned and looked around, spotting the mentioned vent up near the ceiling. It was just big enough for a drone to fit inside, but Keith doubted he could fit more than his head through. “Do all of the cells have that? Why do I only hear you?”
“I couldn't say. I've only ever been in this one, but I'm pretty sure there aren't any others connected to us. For once thing, I only have one vent. How about you?”
“Yeah,” Keith responded after taking a second look. “Hey, how did you end up here?”
“Oh, you know, I just released a prisoner from a maximum security facility and caused too much structural damage for the prison to continue operating without extensive repairs. May have caused some panic.”
“Wait, you're the one who set that monster free?” Keith asked incredulously.
“Monster?” They laughed as though that was the funniest thing they had ever heard. “I'd hardly call Laika a monster. Overly excitable, maybe, but considering she has more of a taste for destroying sentries than any living thing, she's hardly a threat. I guess they had to put some kind of spin on my capture though. Can't let anyone know the truth.”
“And what is the truth?”
They were silent for a moment. “It hardly seems fair for me to do all of the talking. I don't suppose you'll agree to an even exchange of information?”
Every part of Keith's training dictated that he shouldn't do that. What if it was a trap to get him to admit his guilt? Though why they would go through such lengths when they already had him imprisoned, he didn't know. “I've been accused for the death of Prince Lotor,” he said carefully.
“Prince Lotor is dead?” they asked, sounding genuinely surprised. “But how? What happened?”
“You said this was an equivalent exchange,” Keith boldly pointed out.
There was another, softer laugh. “You're right. I did say that. The truth is, I was there to rescue a prisoner. Setting loose the warden's pet yupper was just an accident that worked in my favor.”
Keith swallowed nervously. He was going to be in so much trouble if anyone knew he was about to reveal his mission to a stranger. He really shouldn't say anything else. It was too risky. But he was so interested to hear what really happened at Beta Traz; it was information that not even the Blade of Marmora knew.
“I was supposed to guard Prince Lotor and gather intel on the person he was meeting with. It all happened so fast. I... I didn't know what to do. Looking back, it was clear we were set up. Someone knew about us.”
“Could be,” they agreed. “I think the empire was prepared for us at Beta Traz too. I bought enough time for my team to escape with the prisoner, but I wasn't so lucky. On the bright side, they've had two movements to come up with a plan to get me out of here! In three... two... one.”
Keith's jaw dropped as a clicking sound echoed down the hall of cells and then each of the barriers went out. All at once, there was a roar of noise as the other prisoners took notice and began to make their escape.
He ran to the door, determined to make a break for it before any of the guards caught on and reactivated the cells. Keith grasped the frame and swung himself around it, only to run smack into a tiny figure with long brown hair and glasses. His eyes went wide as he took in the green markings high on her cheeks. “You're-!”
“There's no time for that! You're coming with me,” she said, grabbing his arm without waiting for his agreement. She tugged him along, surprisingly strong for someone her size.
“Where are we going? And why me?” he asked as they split away from the other inmates, who seemed delighted to have a chance to wreak havoc on the facility.
“You can pilot a Galra ship. I can't,” she explained simply. “I'll give you the coordinates so I can meet my friends at our rendezvous point and then we'll make sure you get back to your friends as well. Deal?”
Another equivalent exchange. It seemed to be something important to her.
“Deal,” he agreed.
She was grinning as she increased her speed. “I'm Katla, by the way. But you can call me Pidge. All of my friends do.”
“I'm Keith. Well, Keithir, but-”
“Shh!” she hissed, yanking him into a darkened alcove.
He could hear the sound of sentries running by, too focused on their mission parameters to round up the rioting prisoners to pay them any mind. After a doboshe or two, Keith risked checking up and down the corridor.
“It's all clear.”
Pidge nodded and then they were off again.
Keith wasn't sure how she knew the way to go, but he wasn't going to complain as they made it to the ships without any problems. He hopped into the pilot's seat of the nearest one and reached down to help her up. Luckily, the hangar doors were already open, so all he had to worry about was familiarizing himself with the controls of the ship.
He took a deep breath and followed his gut instinct, hoping they were similar to the ones used by the Blade.
Within a few ticks, they were speeding down the landing strip and soaring out into open space. He toggled a few more switched and then pushed down the throttle, rocketing them away from the prison ship.
Next to him, Pidge “whooped!” in delight.
“How did you know all of that? About which way to go and that all of the cells would open up?” Keith asked.
Pidge grinned and tapped the frame of her glasses. “Believe it or not, they didn't think to check my glasses for any hidden tech when they locked me up. I haven't been able to send any messages out, but my friends have been able to send messages in. They told me when the cells would unlock and how to get to the hangar.”
“Impressive.”
“I know,” she said proudly. “I guess this makes us jailbreak buddies, doesn't it.”
Keith glanced at her, confused about what that had to do with anything. “I guess?”
“It means we have a bond. Who knows, maybe we'll work together again some day. After all, it sounds like we're working towards the same goal,” she said, shrugging.
“And what do you think that goal is?” Keith asked.
“Ending the reign of Emperor Zarkon.” Pidge said the words so matter-of-factly that Keith didn't hesitate to believe they were the truth. And what reason did she have to lie? She was clearly Altean and few had suffered at the hands of Zarkon and his soldiers more than her people.
“He has to be stopped,” Keith agreed. “The organization I'm with, we hoped Prince Lotor was the answer. And he seemed on board with our plans, but...”
“We hoped the same as well. He is – was – half Altean and he really sounded like he wanted to make things better. It's a set back, but if we all come together, maybe we can find another solution,” Pidge suggested, looking at him hopefully.
Keith wanted to try, but it wasn't up for him to decide. He could only wait and hope that everything would work out. And in the even that Kolivan rejected the idea of working with Pidge and her friends...
Well, it wouldn't be the first time Keith rebelled against orders.
“You said something about coordinates?” he asked.
Pidge beamed up at him, happy to give him what he wanted.

Since the series sadly failed to really build on Narti as a character, and the fandom as a whole has also failed to really take advantage of her lost potential; what do you think are some key aspects of Narti as a character that can be built up on or were left unexplored? What do you think the limits/logical lengths would her powers go?
Honestly, anon, I’m so glad you asked, since I have a whole headcanon with minimal canon warping that I go off of for Narti and her backstory.
A lot of that involves this handsome fella from s8e3.
Here’s the thing.
Regarding this individual, who I decided to name since canon doesn’t. I call him Avki. We’re told a couple of things about Avki, mostly by Lahn:
We’re told Avki was either synthesized or heavily altered by the empire and was intended to be a weapon
This didn’t work out as intended, because Avki proved aggressive to any and all galra.
We also know a couple of things. Avki is sapient: he is able to hold a conversation with Keith. This also tells us that Lahn is lying when he says that Avki failed as a weapon because it is indiscriminately aggressive. Because Avki obviously evaluates Keith.
If Avki was relying on biological cues to hunt the galra, and merely reacting to any sensory stimuli, Keith should emit enough ‘galra signals’ or at least muddied ones. But Avki doesn’t try to sniff Keith or taste him to see if he’s a galra- they ask him what he is.
That is not the behavior of an indiscriminate monster. It’s the behavior of a person, acting on a grudge. A grudge that Lahn is likely aware of, and is covering himself- implying Lahn knows exactly why Avki’s really angry, and that it’s not a flattering story for him.
Avki is both strong and fast, has spikes emerging from his shoulders, a primarily bluish hide, a long tail, and a nearly featureless face with sharp teeth. They are also shown to be able to manipulate technology using a purple energy they discharge from their hands.
Virtually all of this applies to Narti. We don’t know if Narti has spiked shoulders, but we know her pauldrons flare up at the shoulders in a very similar hooked shape to Avki’s shoulders. Like him, she has a long tail, a blue hide, clawed fingers, and a nearly featureless face with a serrated mouth that creates that permanent, immobile “crocodile grin”. Both of them are voiceless and speak through other mediums. Both of them achieve control over those mediums by discharging purple energy from their hands.
But of course, Narti and Avki also look very different. Narti has tripod gripping toes, without claws, only two arms, and a much smaller, lighter build. Part of that might be explained by age- Narti is Pidge’s counterpart, and with the exception of Lotor, it seems like Team Sincline is the same kind of age distribution Voltron is- teenagers, and if Pidge is the youngest of the paladins, Narti, her counterpart, might be the youngest of Sincline. Narti might not be full grown.
Narti, just like Avki, seems to have a grudge on the empire. That’s the easiest explanation for why she would be Lotor’s ally.
Throk also states that the generals are “half-breeds at best” implying at least the possibility some of the generals have very little galra heritage.
So here’s my theory: Narti and Avki are two specimens of, roughly, a synthetic species we’ll call chimeras. The chimeras were developed by the empire as shock troopers, spliced from galra genetics as well as multiple other sources. They have a certain base mixture, and then, from there, individuals are spliced with whatever else they might need. So while Avki is built for size and strength, to the point of needing the addition of an auxiliary pair of arms to not sacrifice motor dexterity, Narti would be built for agility, stealth, and climbing skills. Narti resembles Avki, but she also resembles the bounty hunter from s4e2 and s8e5, while Avki doesn’t. So Hunter’s species is part of Narti’s genetic cocktail, but not Avki’s.
The empire underestimated the chimeras’ intelligence- Lahn talks about Avki like he’s a wild animal and not something that could hold a conversation with Keith- but they also didn’t realize that the chimeras are all natural telepaths. Specifically, the chimeras have a telepathic network that allows them to effortlessly communicate mind to mind with each other as long as they’re on the same planet or in comparable vicinity.
So the chimeras were decently compliant to the empire- until the point that one of them was hurt, possibly cut into in order to create cybernetic enhancements. At that point, that chimera screamed telepathically- and all of the others heard it, and started attacking in retaliation.
This ended in most of the chimeras being massacred. Some were able to flee and escape to remote locations, while others were discreetly captured during the chaos by ambitious parties like Ranveig who intended to use them. But that grudge never disappeared, and attempts to “reign them in” failed.
(this is a point where I’d start to lean towards rewrite territory around s5e5, and the idea that Krolia actually helped and connected emotionally with Avki, because I both don’t like the idea of, and I think it would be out of character for Krolia, a Blade, to be dismissive of Avki’s suffering)
Conversely, Narti was not actually born yet, stashed inside of a lab somewhere, and she was hidden, but, was aware of the massacre because while she was still developing, she still heard from the others what had happened. Later, Lotor was able to find the lab, and Narti, reading his mind, decided to trust him on the basis that he also was hurt by the empire.
Lotor helped Narti train her telepathy into something she could use as a weapon, which is why she’s able to use it directly on people while Avki does not. She was also able to make a bond similar to the chimera telepathic network with Kova- because Kova’s not a chimera, but, as a quintessence-tinted creature he’s got enough power to make that easy, so they’re telepathically anchored and can freely communicate, and keeping Narti from talking to Kova would require moving them a very long distance away from each other.
Conversely, the connections Narti uses to override people are much shorter-lived, and die if either Narti is distracted or moves a short distance away from them. She can also forcibly let go of them, as demonstrated in s3e6 with Throk.
The other issue though is that certain learned magic users, e.g. Haggar, can also use the same kind of destructive measures against her; which is what Haggar did in s4e3. She sunk a telepathic anchor to Narti, and Narti didn’t really know what Haggar had done or how to get away from it, so just assumed that maybe all she needed to do was get away from central command as fast as possible so her head could stop hurting.

UPDATED:Voltron S8 Predictions
*POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD BEWARE*
It’s been a couple of months since the S7 premiere and there have been a lot of theories going around about what is going to happen in Season 8. I had my own theory, but it wasn’t very specific about exactly what’s going to happen. I just threw out some guess based on what I had seen while I was watching, but I wasn’t exactly sure where a lot of it was going at the time. At this point I think I am just about ready to make an educated guess about the upcoming events in the final season of Voltron. The crew works so hard on this show and they try very hard not to make any mistakes, meaning every small detail is important. Not to mention, how much Voltron LOVES it’s character parallels. Here I will be covering both the future basic plot and what ships become canon, including all endings beyond this. This is all my opinion and my predictions, but IDK.
So who will be the new villain?
The answer to this question is actually pretty simple and I think that most of the fandom has figured it out.
Haggar.
Well, sort of. Because, this here^ isn’t Haggar. This is Honerva. Haggar was Zarkon’s second hand, a witch. She was totally insane and her memory was corrupt. But it’s obvious, even if just by her appearance that she isn’t Haggar anymore. She even confronts Lotor on the topic when she tries to get him on her side. She has accepted and embraced her original identity.
Either way, we haven’t seen her since season 6. We’ve heard that she abandoned her army of druids, but we have no canon mentions of her current whereabouts. We know she went to Oriande to learn the secrets of Altean Alchemy. Where is she now? We don’t know. But we can make pretty good guesses as to where she went since then. First stop, was the quantum abyss. She learned about the altean colony from Shiro’s Clone. She knows where it is, how to get there, what Lotor has been doing with their quintessence, their viewpoint on lotor- basically she knows everything that we do. Which is why they were gone when the blades went to go try to find the colony. It’s also why she abandoned her druids.
What is the dynamic between Honerva and the Altean Colony? Who is the mysterious Altean we see at the end of Season 7? What was with that random crazy robot that came out of nowhere?
Honerva and the Alteans are building fighter robots like the one we saw at the end of Season 7.
We get a glimpse of evidence pointing towards this at the VERY end of season 7, with the appearance of this mysterious Altean who was apparently piloting that crazy powerful Altean ship. Allura comments on the ships altean technology, but as of season 7 we have seen the blending of technologies from different cultures and there are vast differences between this and what we’ve seen so far of Altean technology. Personally, I believe that the robot is a mix of Altean technology and Galra technology, because of the purple quintessence powering the robot and just because of the robots general design. It just screams HONERVA WAS HERE. Like, we’ve seen Haggar build plenty of “robots” and it would be fair to assume that Honerva does have all of her memories from her time spent as Haggar. I do have more evidence behind this that I will explain later, but yeah.
Why?
Okay, so Honerva is building powerful AF robots. But why? We know that Honerva is a scientist and that she is obsessed with unlocking the secrets behind quintessence, but her current motives are unknown. Well we can examine the robot, the way the robot works, previous robots, and the Altean pilot and actually get a pretty good guess here.
So this Robot has the ability to drain quintessence from things using its double swords, which are actually really cool and unique looking. I love the purple translucent-
…
Yeah, okay, so obviously not an exact match. I know. Of course, it’s been around 6 years since Haggar built Shiro’s robo-galra arm and she did kinda half ass that thing at the time too. But my point is that the general design, color scheme, functionality line up. Also the purple lightning is exactly the same. I just wanted to put that out there to prove that the robot has Galran technology in it and that it’s very likely that it’s Honerva’s work. Anyway, so the sycle/ double sword blades can drain the quintessence from Voltron (draining quintessence from living beings was also a huge part of Honervas work back when when was Haggar, more supporting evidence!) and this thing is obviously built for fighting. It’s speed, agility, power, and self defence protocols are insane.
It has shapes very similar to that of Zarkon’s armor and Lotor’s robot, but it’s much thinner and more flexible than either of these two. In fact, Voltron wasn’t even able to beat this robot by itself, it needed help from ATLAS constantly, which just goes to show how powerful this thing is. In which raises the question, why did Honerva send it out to fight against Voltron when she did? It was completely random and sure there was an element of surprise, but it still lost and they didn’t even have any sort of robot recovery team or backup. There is no way that she would have assumed that it would just defeat Voltron straight out, even with the robots overwhelming power she knows Voltrons capabilities and to always expect the unexpected. She is smart, a literal evil genius scientist. A scientist. Which is why I believe that this robot was an experiment. She was testing the abilities of the robot she built, seeing how she could improve her creation, experimenting with its limits. That robot was expendable. A prototype, a test subject. Which makes it even more terrifying than it already was. Earlier you might have noticed that I said Honerva was building robots, in the plural, and that’s the explanation here. Honerva is building an army of these robots with the help of the Altean colony.
What would she need an army of quintessence stealing, all powerful robots for? What do the Alteans from the Colony get out of any of this?
Well there are lots of answers for those questions. Quintessence is the main powersource that the Galra have been using for centuries. In order to obtain this quintessence the galra had to extract it from planets and, in Lotor’s case, people. Let’s say that when Honerva arrived at the Altean Colony that she told them the truth about the second colony. Now I have in the past theorized that Lotor’s original purpose for extracting the quintessence from the Alteans in the second colony was so that he could continue to power their ship and that he had all intentions of returning quintessence to their bodies once he finally had access to unlimited quintessence (Hence the numerous number of healing pod like chambers throughout the small section of the second colony that we saw in Romelles flashback). If this is true and Honerva conveyed that specific to the members of the colony, if they are like Romelle, I think that they would want to shut everything down ASAP. Also, Honerva being their “savior” would probably give them a lot of trust in her. So they would probably turn to her for help. They don’t know anything about quintessence, where to get it or how to use it. And this is an entire civilization that needs to be provided for.
Honerva is smart, I know I’ve said this before, but like hear me out. Like, what if after they asked her about quintessence she then explains that most of the quintessence is controlled by the Galra race, who destroyed Altea, and that they dominate a good majority of the universe. The Alteans decide to go to war against the Galra, in attempt to free the universe from their reign and to usher the world into a new era of peace under purely Altean ideals, which is extremely possible given that it was kinda FORESHADOWED IN THE ALTERNATE UNIVERSE EPISODE. Honerva then gets an army of quintessence thirsty Alteans under her finger without ever actually lying to them.
That’s exactly what I think happened. It’s all really simple and it makes sense, tbh. All Honerve even has to do is have fun with her experiment, build an army of super cool robots, and sit back and watch. And the craziest bit is that she could totally turn against them at any given moment once the army is built.
How could Honerva manipulate the Robot army and turn against the Alteans?
See, this is the part where I get to talk about how the robot is piloted. So at the end of Season 7 we get a good glance at our Altean Pilot in her cockpit.
The whole thing gives me major Attack On Titan vibes for some reason, but I just think that this is so cool. If you look at this small cockpit area you can see that her arms and legs are both restrained and that there don’t appear to be any controls for the robot. So how does she control the robot? Look at her head.
There are two glowing purple lights on her forehead and no they aren’t just there for decoration. We’ve already seen technology like this back in the Altean Castle.
The mind linking headgear that the paladins wore. Okay, so I just want to take a moment to say how cool this is. I mean, we’ve seen the paladins link with the lions and pilot them from inside prison cells using their minds, so it’s obvious that this sort of thing is totally possible in the Voltron universe and that it’s very likely that this is how the army is going to be piloted. I am just super excited. Anyway, with the way we’ve seen this specific technology work, multiple of these headgears could link together. I think that if Honerva built a piece of headgear, like IDK some sort of cool crown type thing, that could link to the robots and control them, that she would easily be able to overpower the pilots and take control of the army for herself. Like she needs people inside of each individual robot because they wouldn’t work otherwise, that’s how all of the robots work they need an actual pilot piloting them- plus they would totally act as extra batteries if quintessence is running low. And so yeah.
What does Honerva want?
Honerva’s research with quintessence has always been very focused/pointed in one very specific direction; using quintessence in order to change the laws of life and death. Although, not in the way Allura uses it to bring Lance and Shiro back to life. She has been in search of immortality, ultimate power. She wants to reopen the rift, but in order to do that she needs really powerful quintessence. Lotor discovered that the quintessence extracted from living beings, the Alteans, is far more powerful than regular quintessence that the Galra have used in the past. If Honerva can’t have access to the quintessence in the rift, then this is probably the next most successful course of action for her to pursue. But she is working with the Alteans, so she can’t extract their quintessence, like Lotor did. So who? Who will she be draining the quintessence from?
Voltron.
More specifically the paladins themselves. She wants to recruit the paladins to her side and use their quintessence in order to obtain ultimate power. After all, the quintessence of the paladins is off the charts. They have strong enough quintessence in order to power Voltron, the most powerful weapon in the universe. And even after being drained they are able to regenerate more quintessence. They don’t react the way the Alteans on the second colony do after having their quintessence drained. The difference in that might be that the paladins are willing giving their life force and it was being forcibly take from the second colony alteans, but even then the Paladins seem to have either an endless supply of quintessence or such a large amount of quintessence within them that the amount they need to power Voltron is about a chip of the block. And I know that’s not how that metaphor is usually used, shut up.
Would Honerva even be able to successfully corrupt one of the paladins and how?
Yes. We actually have one paladin specifically who is extremely emotionally unstable and has very little moral support. He has little confidence in himself and rarely ever turns to others for help. We know that he is going to be on edge frequently throughout this season, which makes him a pretty easy target for Honerva. Have a guess?
Honerva will get Keith to join her. Willingly. Keith has struggled a lot with who and what he is throughout the series. We’ve seen every single half Galra throughout the series have this inner battle, which is pretty much a battle between their inner “good” and “evil”. We all know that some Galra are born inherently good, like Krolia an Kolivan and majority of the blades. Which is actually why Keith ran away to join the blades in the first place. He was trying to prove to himself that he isn’t a monster or evil or a typical Galra that they’ve seen throughout the series. We’ve always known that Keith has been a bit of a hot head, aka he has a temper, but as of his battle with Shiro it seems a bit more as if that’s more of a primal instinct than it is typical anger. There is a scene during their battle where Keith has fangs and his eyes are very Galran with triangulated pupils/irises and yellow tinted backing.
And he takes on multiple galran features throughout this battle, walking away with the galran mark on his cheek at the very end of their battle, which I will talk about more later as well. But when keith becomes emotionally agitated, specifically during battle, he has the ability to channel his inner Galra. Literally. And he doesn’t even know he is doing it. He spent months trying to prove that he isn’t some feral beast and he almost lost it during this fight. It leaves the terrifying lingering thought of “what if he hadn’t snapped out of it?” and I totally think that we will be seeing more of this, specifically the inner turmoil with keith throughout the series. But Honerva (and probably only Honerva because she is the only one besides keith who witnessed this fight- she saw the whole thing through clone shiro’s eyes) knows about all of this, and I think that she is going to take full advantage.
Honerva will poke at Keith’s insecurities during a battle, similar to how Shiro’s clone did, and try to cut him off from the other paladins. But here, since Keith has nothing holding him back, he wont turn back once he starts to take on those Galran traits and become feral. It will probably happen a few episodes in, during which Keith becomes more and more agitated by the other paladins. And yeah, I am totally predicting a full on Keith Galra transformation once he get pushed over the edge by Honerva. After which, Honerva will convince him that he is a monster and that his friends won’t accept him like this. Keith, already believing this himself, goes with her. They don’t take the black lion with them, it will be left behind, because Honerva doesn’t need it and it symbolizes that Keith is leaving behind his life as a paladin.
Who will Pilot the Black Lion?
Not Coran. Sorry, that's a definite no. Just because everytime he has attempted to pilot a lion, it's been a big joke and giving that privilege to him now would just come across as a joke too. And I would love to say that Shiro will temporarily go back to piloting the black lion, but he needs to Pilot the ATLAS. So that leaves an opening for a pilot and we have several options for how things could continue. One of our current pilots could take on the position of being the pilot of the black lion. The most likely of our four remaining paladins to do this are Allura and Lance. Allura has been acting as sort of the leader of the group since the very beginning, but when it comes down to it she has made very little emotional growth throughout the series. She may make a good leader, but she isn’t mature enough to properly lead the paladins they way they need to be lead as Voltron. When is comes down to the tough decisions she tends to make the right decision overall, but her general actions are very volatile. Like when she was handling Lotor, her words were very harsh. She was attacking him verbally where she knew it would hurt, which is actually very childish. This would mean that she can’t actually talk Keith out of his current mindset, if anything she would only go to enrage him more.
Lance on the other hand has been shown to have made huge strides in his emotional growth. But is he ready to lead? He is the current pilot of red making it seem that if Keith were to run off that he would take over piloting the black lion, like how Keith took over after Shiro. I think that losing Keith again would ignite a change in Lance. But would it be enough?
Either way we still have an opening for a new pilot. Personally I think we have 2 possibilities. Lotor. JK. No, as much as I think it would think it’s awesome to bring lotor back and have him pilot one of the lions, with the probabilities of Keith leaving in the first half of the season being really high, there just isn’t a logical time to place Lotor being extracted from the quantum rift by either Voltron or Honerva. Yet. So our two actual options are probably going to be Acxa and Matthew Holt. They are the only two characters that have gotten enough devoted screen time to take a place piloting one of lions. We know that they are both talented pilots and warriors and their personalities would fit well with any openings in the dynamic.
Personally I believe that the best combination for this scenario would be with Lance piloting Black, Allura piloting Red, and Acxa piloting blue. Acxa is pretty cool headed, but she is also new to the whole “being good” thing. Although, I think that she would be willing to do whatever she could to help save Keith, because of how much of an inspiration he was to her. I’ve mentioned in a previous post that Acxa was originally save by Keith in the episode “Belly of the Weblum” and that was what inspired her to turn again Zethrid and Ezor. I specifically referenced the specific line “-but I knew that I had to find my own path. And it led me to you.” and how she looked at Keith when she said that. Keith means a lot to Acxa, but not in a romantic sense. He was a big part of her self discovery and as I said before an inspiration to her. Acxa piloting a lion also opens up an option to bring Zethrid and Ezor back into the scene and for the writers of the series to finally have them pick a side. Up until now Zethrid and Ezor have been more chaotic neutrals more than anything else, causing trouble for both sides. It would be nice to see our lesbian babies finally take a chill pill, join the paladins side, and get a nice happily ever after.
What about Allurance?
Hooray, I’m finally getting to the ships. That was sarcastic. Ships are always a very touchy topic for a lot of people, because there are a lot of different opinions out there and some people get really offended. I just want to say that I am not ship bashing, just speculating. This is my opinion on the logical course of action for the show to take. Anyway, so I have made a post before about why allurance shouldn’t become canon. But honestly? I think that Allura and Lances relationship is going to continue to go the way it’s been going. Allura and Lance are going to have several romantic/ flirtatious moments that will progress their relationship and maybe even a kiss. A lot of time passes at the end of Season 7 and so it gives them a lot of time to get closer.
Of course, I still believe everything I said before about this relationship being extremely unstable and it would have an effect on the team too. Particularly, I think it will seriously piss Keith off. Actually, all of the paladins will piss Keith off, but Allura and Lance specifically. Allura is the only paladin that stays focused on the mission and is always suspicious, but she puts her guard down and gets distracted easily when she is in a relationship. Keith is probably the only paladin who doesn’t actually have a life outside of Voltron at this point and is probably very focused on training and being ready in case another one of those random robots comes onto the scene, while everyone else is going to spend their time relaxing with their families or inventing, etc. and so on. So yeah. Boy is gonna be pissed (especially if you take into account his learning about everything that happened while he was gone, aka Lance dying). Hunk will probably think that it’s cute and Pidge will probably think that it’s totally gross. And the whole thing is just going to throw off the team dynamic, which will piss off Keith even more.
But then they are ambushed by Honerva and lets say two or three of those crazy Altean war robots or something and by the end of the battle Honerva retreats with Keith. See, I said earlier that Keith going away with Honerva will ignite a change in Lance and it’s true. Lance has always had a weird sort of obsession with Keith and he get easily pissed off/ hurt whenever Keith does something stupid. It’s a big part of their dynamic. It hit him pretty hard when Keith left to join the blades too, because Lance knows Keith. He can recognize that mullet anywhere. He knew why Keith was really leaving to join the blade and he was concerned.
Lance is going to become more hardened, in a sense, during his confusion with Keith leaving and probably the most determined to find Keith and kick his ass for being an idiot. Although, his obsession with Keith is going to be what finally breaks down his relationship with Allura. It was already really unstable and Lance and Allura will get into a fight, finally expressing their true feelings about their relationship. Allura will confront Lance about his fixation on finding Keith and Lance will blow her off, avoiding the topic, saying that she wouldn’t understand. Allura will continue to push Lance, concerned about what this means for their relationship. Lance will become overwhelmed and express that he feels that Allura is only in a relationship with him because Lotor is dead and he feels like a second choice. Allura will get angry at Lance for trying to compare himself to Lotor and Lance will take this in the wrong way, leading to him breaking things off with Allura and walking away from her. Allura will realize that she doesn’t actually feel hurt by Lance breaking up with her, because she didn’t have serious feelings for him. So yes, Allurance will be canon, but it will also be short lived, because of how unstable the relationship is.
What does this mean for Klance?
Well, there is an opening for Klance to happen, but its small and so they would have to play all their card right, but they are in a current position where they could make Klance canon. Although, it would be more towards the end of the show, as a resolve after having saved Keith from his own self destructive path, which is basically going to be one of the seasons bigger climaxes. But we will see some Klance pining moments, more specifically played out and hinted out through Lance. We will see some of this when Shiro comes out to the team as gay, but more of it when Shiro confronts Lance about his fixation on Keith after he breaks up with Allura. Although most actual Klance scenes will probably be more at the season finale so I will talk more about this later.
How to save Keith?
People have pointed out a lot of parallels between Lance and Alfor and Keith and Zarkon. So, some of the dedicated fans/ theorists probably have already figured out where I’m going with this. There has been a theory going around about there being a fight between Keith and Lance in Season 8, where Lance has his sword and him and Keith are doing hardcore one on one battle. And I honestly feel that this is going to be a necessary moment for the two of them.
This moment will likely be the first time any of the Paladins actually see Keith since his Galra transformation and Lance will immediately understand why Keith went with Haggar. Although, the two of them are terrible at communicating their feelings so they will have a full on battle. During all of this the other paladin and ATLAS will very likely be in battle with the Altean Robots, while Honerva is trying to open a portal into the quantum rift using the quintessence she got from Keith. And as everything explodes and the chaos goes down around the two of them are trying to beat the living shit out of each other somewhere on honervas ship. At some point, Lance will appeal to Keith’s emotional side and snap out of it telling him that he accepts him no matter what (and this would be a perfect opportunity to have them kiss, just saying) and the two of them walk out of there together.
How will they stop Honerva?
They won’t. With an army of insanely powerful Altean robots on her side, she will be able to successfully open the portal to the rift. So, what now? Well, I personally believe that Honerva will salvage Lotors ship from the rift and try to resurrect her son, but something will go wrong because of his overexposure to the raw quintessence in the rift. Which would cause Honerva to become overwhelmed with grief and she will either die or become incapacitated. I also believe that we will see a return of the dark monsters from in the rift and that the Galra (brought in by Zethrid and Ezor), Alteans, team Voltron, and ATLAS will have to team up in order to get rid of all the monsters and close the portal to the rift. It would be one big final fight to clean up the mess that started 10,000 years ago.
The aftermath:
The universe will be ushered into a new Era of peace. It will be a combined effort of the Galra empire, the Altean empire, the Blades, the Rebellion, Earth, and Voltron. Although, after 6-7 years of fighting in a war our Paladins would all finally retire from piloting the lions and the new team will take over, traveling the universe with the ATLAS and keeping peace, training under Shiro’s guidance. Wait, what new team? You know, these guys:
So yeah, they will be the new Paladins. But what will happen to our other Paladins? Well, Allura will take her place as rightful Queen of the Alteans with Romelle acting as her royal advisor, as Coran will be off with Shiro piloting the ATLAS and training the new paladins. Pidge will probably end up staying with her family on Earth, the Holts finally getting their peaceful happy ending, all of them together again. Hunk will end up with Shay living either on the Balmera or on Earth, which are right next to each other now so it doesn’t matter much. Krolia and Kolivan will continue to reestablish the Blade. And then, finally, there are Keith and Lance. I know, this is what everyone has been waiting for.
So I’m just going to straight up say that Keith becomes the next emperor of the Galra Empire. I don’t really have much for evidence for this besides the fact that Zarkon was the ex-emperor and that Keith has several parallels to him throughout the series and that him turning full Galra and his emotional growth throughout the series has made him into a great leader. Keith at the end of the series, doesn’t really have anywhere to go, because his mom is with the blades and he doesn’t really have any other family to go back to. If you think about it, it just kind of feels right, because Acxa already has a lot of respect for Keith and it would be pretty easy to persuade Zethrid and Ezor to respect him after everything that all of the half bloods have been through, Keith included. And so those three will act as his general as he brings order to the Galra empire.
What about Lance? Where is Klance? I am happy to say that I think that Lance will end up with Keith in the end and rule the Galra empire by Keith's side. Lance will be what reminds Keith of his humanity and keeps him balanced throughout his reign. He will provide Keith with the proper support that he has always needed, not to mention a whole new family to be a part of. And of course Cosmo would be the royal dog and blah blah blah. And yeah, just happy endings.
Hope you enjoyed, and feel free tell me what you think about all of this! Thanks for sticking with me!
