I remembere this awesome fic from @hailqiqi the other day. This picture is not related, but I still really like the idea of Lance just carrying Pidge like this.

Regarding the Blue Lion (More Lion Meta)
It's never explicitly stated what the requirement is to pilot the Blue Lion. But I have my own theory about the lions, based on how much we've seen of the six paladins.
Green and Yellow are pretty straightforward. Green is the keen mind, the flexible strategist, the unflinching heart. Green will keep you on task without losing sight of the consequences.
Yellow is the voice of caution and empathetic connections. Yellow will usually be the first to warn the team away from a threat, and the first to befriend a local. Yellow is often the best diplomat.
Black and Red are a balancing act. Black paladins have a tremendous force of will, and they refuse to give up. But Black can't be without the team, and the team can't be without Black. Black is the indestructible core of Voltron. No matter how fucked up they get, they will not die.
Red is the action-oriented defender. Red is responsible for counterbalancing Black (Alfor & Zarkon, Keith & Shiro, Lance & Keith). If Black is level-headed, Red will be the risk-taker. If Black is impulsive, Red will be the voice of reason. If Black turns dangerous, it's Red's job to take them down.
So what does that make Blue? Blue isn't as fast as Red or Green. Nor does Blue have the heavy armor like Yellow, or the sheer power of Black. So what makes Blue unique?
Blue chooses the hero with a sense of inadequacy. The Blue paladin is the one who thought they'd never get a chance to fly, or fight, but who really wanted to. Blue is the first chance, the first believer.
Blue is also the last goodbye.
Blue isn't built to take hits and survive them, which is ironic because the Blue paladin's way of defense is through life-threatening sacrifice. No matter how many risks Black or Red take, they don't come so close to death as Blue does.
I think Blue takes the loneliest, the most homesick as paladins. For Black, Red, and Green, their anchor is the people they love, and that's all they need. For Yellow, every planet they touch down on has their own beauty. But Blue preserves the memory of a home planet. Blue is the water-logged origin of life (Earth and Altea, both blue).
The Blue Lion picks the unlikely hero who will, one day, have to leave it. Blue is literally the beginning and end of Voltron. But really, that's just how the cycle of water works. Endings, beginnings--this will not be the last story told.
Blue is home.

i know the galra had ten thousand years and unlimited resources to build up their defences and offences, to create an insane amount of weapons, to do evil experiments, and rule far across the universe, but HOW does it go from voltron being the defender of the universe, the most powerful weapon in the universe, something that zarkon has been hunting after for ten thousand years, something that made sendak (a very strong galra commander who would not let anyone stand in his way, according to himself) gasp and RUN.
yes he didnt fully run away but he retreated; he watched his battle cruiser get blown to fucking pieces, and remember this is the first time the paladins formed voltron. there was no sword. it was like their second or third time flying in their lions, and the only one that has had consistent flight simulations and training for however long is lance, and even then i think we saw him struggle to strategise a battle plan when going after the yellow lion with hunk because we heard him say he would cover hunk, we saw him carry that out but then get overwhelmed by the galra fighters in the air and take off after them.
hes a damn good pilot, and they all are, especially in the lions, but this is on a next level to what they could've been training for at the garrison.
so, this takes me to my point, why in the fucking world was voltron so fucking nerfed in the later seasons. like yes i dont want an easy win for voltron every battle, yknow, its about them working together as a team, its about voltron not always being the solution (aka when its better for them to split off into lions while they strategise), its about them actually coming up with strategies instead of just going in voltron first and hoping for the best.
its been a while since i watched the later seasons but rn im mostly thinking of atlas. like it just doesnt really make sense to me tbh? to build the atlas, yes, its essentially a replacement for the castleship, a place for a team to watch voltron from the sky, provide back up, but then to have it form into a voltron-esque robot ??? i just dont think thats where they should have taken it.
im glad for the castle of lions to take an important role in some episodes, where again the answer lies outside of JUST voltron, but it doesnt really make sense to build another giant robot.
it kind of takes away the development the paladins are supposed to go through as well, to work together better and stronger as a team thus opening up more weapons from voltron and learning how to fight in different ways.
idk i think the entire thing was kinda over-thought at the end as they were trying to keep the show going, but missing some of the other storylines they could've gone down, (black paladin lance, lotor redemption arc (which he did seemingly have but all along they planned to throw that in the bin), the team coming together as friends more often developing their bond as voltron but also as people, the team seeing their families again, not killing off shiro's FUCKING CANON BOYFRIEND IN A STUPID FUCKING SHITTY WAY ADAM DIDNT DESERVE TO DIE YALL ARE JUST COWARDS, and also the team kinda reflecting back to how they were jn the beginning and realizing they have grown (i say the team but i mostly mean lance and hunk because the writers just did not give two shits about them they really didnt get the chance to become fully thought out characters, they just had some insecurities and interests that were ignored until convenient then ignored again)).

soooo. anybody remember that old 'kuron is a robot' theory? well. cough.. my brain latched onto that idea a few days ago for reasons that evade me and ive just been a bunch of diffrent takes on the design/concept. enjoy the fruits of my insanity
this first image is me trying to figure out how an au abt this idea could work. i think if i decide to keep this au alive for longer im gonna try n focus on themes of like. what it means to be human and free will and exploring how something thats decidedly Not Human and that functions unlike any living being could still feel and be a person while maintaining the uncanny and unhuman bits that come with android territory. and uhhhh i also drew this

and yes kur0n can, in fact, run doom

Voltron: The Series
Tumblr media
Last stop folks! One I'm sure you already know well This was my introduction into Voltron, fell in love with it, led me to its predecessors, then had a rocky relationship with it, and still do Thanks for joining me so far! I love Voltrons history because there's so much to be inspired from Dotu/VV - V3D - VF - VLD (here)
Word vomit under the cut <3
Oh boy 2016, nothing can go wrong here Frankly this is the better looking Voltron out of all of them, I'm glad to see what 2D and 3D can really do together since VF had a rocky time with that itself. Like I said in the Dotu/VV post, this show is a hard reboot, at most it takes the names and basic legend of the original show and just runs with it. Though it does take inspiration from the previous shows, again with Pidge being a genius, the lions being mystical, and this time I'm fairly sure the bayards were directly inspired from the voltcoms from VF That's the main reason why I don't find it fair to compare Voltron Legendary Defender (VLD) to the other Voltrons because it's not the same story at all, it's its own thing and is pretty well isolated. It has major changes to the story beats, like Lotor not automatically being a villain, the pilots aren't trained soldiers and instead cadets themselves, for a while the team aren't even friends, Allura's planet is renamed (to be fair it's back to the original anime name) and also destroyed, and Pidge is a girl now, which I don't mind but from what I've learned its a joke between older fans since many of them thought dotu Pidge was a girl at first due to his headband. The gist of VLD is vaguely similar to the rest of them, a team of five lands on Altea (Arus) and discovers Voltron which is then used to defend the universe. Like I mentioned though, the team isn't made up of soldiers, most of them are cadets with only one (1) seasoned soldier on the team who has been missing for years until the group found him. They have an Indiana Jones moment and find blue lion hidden away on Earth which abducts the entire team to Arus, a planet unrelated to Altea, where the castle of lions sits locked up. The rest of the show is them learning to work together and the best way to handle dangerous situations when more than just easily ignored lives are on the line. In total, it had 8 seasons in 2 years (yikes), the most of the shows (probably ran too long in retrospect), spawned 3 volumes of comics (15 in total), and brought the return of the toy line. This iteration brought in the most viewers because of the original fans who were still kicking, the animation, the story (in the beginning), and it was on Netflix which many people had at that point so it was easily accessible. It also spawned an incredibly large fandom which could be amazing at some points and down right radioactive at others. Either way though, it created avenues for merchandise, podcasts, fan interactions, and furthering the legacy of Voltron itself! As of this post, there's information slowly coming out about a live action movie for Voltron (probably not VLD related, that ship has sailed lads) which has many fans excited for what's to come

The episode where Lance's Lion gets taken except they take Lance too and he has to get out and for some reason the only plan they have is having Keith in Yellows Mouth as they desperately try to catch up with them and they have to do the scene from The Runaway Bride from Doctor Who cause Lance absolutely does not trust Keith will catch him
And later Hunk yells at him cause he's known Lance a while and there's no way with the trust issues he displayed at the very beginning that he wouldn't have kept his beady eyes trained on Lance so it ended up with Lance having to track Rolo instead and they have to switch up their plan
#its the stupidest and most derivative rewrite episode i wanna do but i so want for this to a little bit#be the very beginning of Lances bi arc#where Hunk is like no nope i domt trust these people and ik how easily youre distracted by pretty girls#and demands he keep an eye on everyone#so rolo tries to tell pidge he and the robot need to collect some supplies and thinking he has this handled takes the bait#and offers to go in pidges stead#then rolo begins to flirt with him and lamce gets dazed 1. by being flirted with and 2. cause hes lowkey into being flirted with by this guy#and rolo takes the opportunity to get him and the lion who hed taken with him as back up#and then the runaway bride scene happens cause it gives lance and keith the opportunity to restablish trust#after they bonded and then Lance joked it never happened#the chance to show their rivalry is well and truly behind them and that they trust each other#and also allows hunk to be like lance what the hell i put you in charge of the not the girl how the hell.did you get caught unaware#and lance is like... i guess i got distracted csuse i totally thougjt i could handle in a fight... thats it... yeah#and that explanation flies with mostly everyone except shiro an elder gay and keith whos like... yeah i got distracted by that guy too#but idk why you wouldve unless....#voltron#vld#voltron: legendary defender#lance mcclain#lance vld#the klance in the tags is mostly platonic its like at the stage where its not being hinted at... yet

@breadstickcat and I were in sync. The night I was thinking of Albegas after not thinking of him in a while, she had thoughts, too, and it sparked thoughts of another mech. Korrinoth, piloted by Shorty. So. New thoughts sparked, AU chatter went on, now I've got these two arts. Pidge and Shorty with their respective mechs. And it is amazing.
Anyway, I hope y'all enjoy this one! Until next time!

Regarding the Arms of Voltron
the thing about the og voltron Arms is that both keith and pidge are solo players with a priority. keith's is shiro and pidge's is matt. as driving narrative forces, both of them are prone to rushing into action, get tunnel-vision focus, and excel at one-against-many combat through sheer speed and skill.
then pidge learns to zoom out to get the big picture, and keith learns to take an extra breath to communicate. it's still nearly impossible for them to set aside personal loyalty, but they're able to plan for a 'next time' and keep their heads clear to re-prioritize during action.
it just tickles my brain how the two people who were least used to the idea of relying on others became great team players.
(lance as an Arm is interesting, too, because his personal loyalty is the thing that actually grounds him in the action instead of taking his focus away. he's less prone to go off on his own thing, and still retains the support instincts of a Leg, which might be how he was able to hold steady with a volatile keith and a shiro clone as the Head.
but all Arms have a singular focus that takes them out of alignment into a dangerously impulsive territory of protectiveness, and for lance that's allura.)
