sad to see jon fans and dany fans fighting again :( game of thrones did them both dirty. they turned her into a villain and him into a traitor. they killed her and they made him useless. they were both ooc so I don't blame them for their actions, but I see some parts of the fandom still do. I'm very happy to see hotd vindicating dany and I hope some kind of retcon is coming, but I don't want to see this become a new reason to shit on jon. let's not pretend his ending didn't suck. he, too, deserved better than killing the woman he loved after barely contributing to the war that was central to his storyline from day one. I would like to see him acknowledged as a targaryen too and a vital part of the war for the dawn, as he should have been. ofc this show is about a targaryen queen and dany is THE targaryen queen so it makes sense they want to do right by her first and foremost, but... yeah. would be nice to get something about both of them someday.

"He told me the moon was an egg, Khaleesi," the Lysene girl said. "Once there were two moons in the sky, but one wandered too close to the sun and cracked from the heat. A thousand thousand dragons poured forth, and drank the fire of the sun. That is why dragons breathe flame. One day the other moon will kiss the sun too, and then it will crack and the dragons will return." -A Game of Thrones - Daenerys III
Here we have a passage of a story Doreah tells Daenerys, a tale of two moons in the sky. One wandered too close to the sun, and it cracked from the heat, resulting in dragons. And that one day, the second moon will 'kiss' the sun.
Notice G.R.R.M's play on words here. In this story, the first time one of the moons cracks, it "wandered" too close to the sun. And for the second, it is said that the second moon will "kiss" the sun. This is deliberate.
"You should look behind you, Lord Snow. The moon has kissed you and etched your shadow upon the ice twenty feet tall." Jon glanced over his shoulder. The shadow was there, just as she had said, etched in moonlight against the Wall." -A Dance with Dragons - Jon VI
Notice the same phrase of wording used here in Jon's passage. He has been "kissed" by the moon, etching his shadow along the Wall.
As I've stated in my post here, I believe that while Daenerys is the main focal point for her role as AA/TPTWP, she would be joined by others in this task. One of those people being Jon. He will be one of the three heads to join her side for the coming war against the Others. To unite the realm against the cold, and the dark.
"One day the other moon will kiss the sun too, and then it will crack and the dragons will return." -A Game of Thrones - Daenerys III
"You should look behind you, Lord Snow. The moon has kissed you and etched your shadow upon the ice twenty feet tall." -A Dance with Dragons - Jon VI
As for these two passages- let's believe they are to be taken literally. It happens for Dany and Drogo the first time around: Drogo is the sun, Dany the moon. Dany "wanders" too close to the sun, Drogo, in his funeral pyre, and thus her dragons hatch.
Now how could this relate to Jon?
I believe Jon being "kissed" by the moon, is in reference to Jon and Daenerys' eventual future romance and union together. We have evidence for this, provided from me here and here. More quotes providing into Jon being Daenerys' last romantic interest and husband:
". . . three heads has the dragon . . . the ghost chorus yammered inside her skull with never a lip moving, never a breath stirring the still blue air. . . . mother of dragons . . . child of storm . . . The whispers became a swirling song. . . . three fires must you light . . . one for life and one for death and one to love. . . Her own heart was beating in unison to the one that floated before her, blue and corrupt. . . three mounts must you ride . . . one to bed and one to dread and one to love. . . The voices were growing louder, she realized, and it seemed her heart was slowing, and even her breath. . . . threeĀ treasonsĀ will you know . . . once for blood and once for gold and once for love . . ." --A Clash of Kings - Daenerys IV
"IĀ don'tĀ . . ."Ā HerĀ voiceĀ wasĀ noĀ moreĀ thanĀ aĀ whisper,Ā almostĀ as faint as theirs. WhatĀ wasĀ happening toĀ her? "IĀ don'tĀ understand," she said,Ā moreĀ loudly. WhyĀ wasĀ it so hard to talk here? "Help me. Show me." . . . help her . . . the whispers mocked. . . . show her . . . Then phantoms shivered through the murk, images in indigo. Viserys screamed as the molten gold ran down his cheeks and filled his mouth. A tall lord with copper skin and silver-gold hair stood beneath the banner of a fiery stallion, a burning city behind him. Rubies flew like drops of blood from the chest of a dying prince, and he sank to his knees in the water and with his last breath murmured a woman's name. . . . mother of dragons, daughter of death . . . Glowing like sunset, a red sword was raised in the hand of a blue-eyed king who cast no shadow. A cloth dragon swayed on poles amidst a cheering crowd. From a smoking tower, a great stone beast took wing, breathing shadow fire. . . . mother of dragons, slayer of lies . . . Her silver was trotting through the grass, to a darkling stream beneath a sea of stars. A corpse stood at the prow of a ship, eyes bright in his dead face, grey lips smiling sadly. A blue flower grew from a chink in a wall of ice, and filled the air with sweetness. . . . mother of dragons, bride of fire . . . mother of dragons, bride of fire . . ." -A Clash of Kings - Daenerys IV
Notice that each prophecy given to Dany in the HOTU was given to her in three, each one ending in love. When asked to be shown what it meant, Dany is given visions. Two connecting her to Jon, both ending in three, as her prophecies for love:
"Rubies flew like drops of blood from the chest of a dying prince, and he sank to his knees in the water and with his last breath murmured a woman's name" - this is clearly Rhaegar, Jon's father, dying upon the Trident. It is believed he is whispering Lyanna's name, Jon's mother.
"A blue flower grew from a chink in a wall of ice, and filled the air with sweetness" - Dany is seeing Jon at the Wall, through the metaphor of a blue flower (connecting him to Lyanna- blue winter roses). The air is full with sweetness- a metaphor to love, and sweetness- something Dany likes (also maybe this hints to Dany joining Jon at the Wall, giving him the three dragons he wishes for in another passage).
Dany will be the moon, who kisses Jon, her second sun. A reference to their love and union.
Now- how does this bring dragons into play? Who knows. The wording is a bit tricky here. The passage states that when the second moon kisses the sun, dragons will return. And yet dragons have already returned- Dany hatches her children the first time she "wanders" too close to the sun. So how do dragons come into play with her and Jon's union regarding this text?
Well, perhaps it may not be so literal. Maybe the return of dragons from Dany and Jon's union is that Jon will gain a dragon. Maybe Jon will discover ice dragons. Maybe they will find more dragon eggs at Winterfell or somewhere else. Maybe Dany's own dragons will breed and begin a second hatching of eggs, thus "returning" dragons once more with Dany and Jon's union. There are different possibilities for this.
Jon's resurrection can also lean more into him being the second sun to Dany, as he would be a wight of fire.
"Burning shafts hissed upward, trailing tongues of fire. Scarecrow brothers tumbled down, black cloaks ablaze. "Snow," an eagle cried, as foemen scuttled up the ice like spiders. Jon was armored in black ice, but his blade burned red in his fist. As the dead men reached the top of the Wall he sent them down to die again. He slew a greybeard and a beardless boy, a giant, a gaunt man with filed teeth, a girl with thick red hair. Too late he recognized Ygritte. She was gone as quick as she'd appeared." -A Dance with Dragons - Jon XII
"That night she dreamt that she was Rhaegar, riding to the Trident. But she was mounted on a dragon, not a horse. When she saw the Usurper's rebel host across the river they were armored all in ice, but she bathed them in dragonfire and they melted away like dew and turned the Trident into a torrent. Some small part of her knew that she was dreaming, but another part exulted. This is how it was meant to be. The other was a nightmare, and I have only now awakened." -A Storm of Swords - Daenerys III
"And saw her brother Rhaegar, mounted on a stallion as black as his armor. Fire glimmered red through the narrow eye slit of his helm. "The last dragon," Ser Jorah's voice whispered faintly. "The last, the last." Dany lifted his polished black visor. The face within was her own." -A Game of Thrones - Daenerys IX
Both Jon and Dany experience dreams of fighting the Others.
-Both are wearing black armor and both are wielding fire; Dany with her dragons, Jon with a sword.
And while their dreams share similarities, they also bear differences:
-Jon is battling the Others upon the Wall, whereas Dany is battling them within the Trident.
-Jon sees Ygritte and realizes too late he's killed her (a person he views with grief and regret), Dany however believes herself to be Rhaegar (a person she sees as a fierce warrior and protector).
Both are also viewed by other people as the chosen ones, AA/TPTWP:
"On Braavos, it had seemed possible that Aemon might recover. Xhondo's talk of dragons had almost seemed to restore the old man to himself. That night he ate every bite Sam put before him. "No one ever looked for a girl," he said. "It was a prince that was promised, not a princess. Rhaegar, I thought . . . the smoke was from the fire that devoured Summerhall on the day of his birth, the salt from the tears shed for those who died. He shared my belief when he was young, but later he became persuaded that it was his own son who fulfilled the prophecy, for a comet had been seen above King's Landing on the night Aegon was conceived, and Rhaegar was certain the bleeding star had to be a comet. What fools we were, who thought ourselves so wise! The error crept in from the translation. Dragons are neither male nor female, Barth saw the truth of that, but now one and now the other, as changeable as flame. The language misled us all for a thousand years. Daenerys is the one, born amidst salt and smoke. The dragons prove it." Just talking of her seemed to make him stronger. "I must go to her. I must. Would that I was even ten years younger." -A Feast for Crows - Samwell V
"Daenerys is the only hope," he concluded. "Aemon said the Citadel must send her a maester at once, to bring her home to Westeros before it is too late." -A Feast for Crows - Samwell V
"Skulls. A thousand skulls, and the bastard boy again. Jon Snow. Whenever she was asked what she saw within her fires, Melisandre would answer, "Much and more," but seeing was never as simple as those words suggested. It was an art, and like all arts it demanded mastery, discipline, study. Pain. That too. R'hllor spoke to his chosen ones through blessed fire, in a language of ash and cinder and twisting flame that only a god could truly grasp. Melisandre had practiced her art for years beyond count, and she had paid the price. There was no one, even in her order, who had her skill at seeing the secrets half-revealed and half-concealed within the sacred flames. Yet now she could not even seem to find her king. I pray for a glimpse of Azor Ahai, and R'hllor shows me only Snow. "Devan," she called, "a drink." Her throat was raw and parched." -A Dance with Dragons - Melisandre I
Jon and Daenerys both have arcs of leadership. In which both have to make hard decisions that they believe is best. Both have the qualities of strong leaders, military strategists, and unifiers. It might turn out that Jon will wind up helping Dany in the books gather the people to face against the Others and fight against the cold and the dark. Perhaps even coming into acceptance of his true parentage and relation to Dany as well.
Both Jon and Dany are also known to have cultivated into, lived with, loved, and learned the humanity of the Freefolk and the Dothraki- two factions many view as "savage" and "barbaric", and yet I believe that the Freefolk and the Dothraki will come into a big play for both Jon and Dany against the war of the Others. The culmination of their work and efforts into unifying people to work together against one common enemy.

I always find it funny when those who support the Greens cling to Daemonā€™s (supposedly) evil acts and atrocities committed, to justify them overthrowing the kingā€™s chosen heir, while also completely ignoring their own side.
Aegon is a proven rapist and frequent child abuser, who might even be a pedophile as well, depending on how you interpret the comment that he prefers the moreĀ ā€œunsavoryā€ brothels. He has bastards, whom he has fight in fighting pits. He is an absolute monster.
Helaena is an innocent victim. Iā€™ll give you that. I feel bad for what is to come for her.
Aemond is a kinslaying psychopath. I donā€™t get those who seem to look forward to him and Alys. He killed her entire family and then took Alys, a prisoner of war, into his bed. Sounds like rape and a war crime to me. His actions cause so much pain. Burns the Riverlands, killing thousands, and his actions are the reason Jaehaerys is brutally massacred.
Daeron is an unknown entity, though he doesnā€™t seem evil, just a dutiful young man and another victim of his familyā€™s misplaced ambition.
Alicent is a terrible person. She sneakily crept into the bed of her best friendā€™s father, not even six moons after his wife died in the birthing bed. Iā€™d be surprised if the birthing blood had dried yet. She raised her sons to be hateful little monsters, and inspired their base and disgusting behavior. She was abusive and an all-round horrible mother. Every bad thing that will happen to her family is because of her. She hides behind her false piety, while she is out here allowing dudes to wank one out over her feet the day her husband died. Alicent is no victim, she hasnā€™t been one in a very long time. She could have had Larys seized, but she didnā€™t because she wants him working for her and not her father. Manipulative and disgusting.
Larys is a kinslayer of the worst kind. No problem with the foot fetishism, to everyone their own. Though I do find a dude called the Clubfoot having a thing for feet a little on the nose.
Criston Cole is truly an incel. He had one whiff of pussy and upon being rejected started spouting every incel/MRA talking-point out there. He is just a sad and pathetic person wearing a mask and clinging to his false Faith and his white cloak, pretending to be someone he is not.
Otto is a jealous little troll, who did everything in his power to destroy the House of the Dragon. I am a firm believer in the Oldtown Conspiracy, and that the Faith, the Citadel and House Hightower conspired to overthrow the Dragonlords and install Hightowers on the Iron Throne. He cares for nothing but himself. He is an almost one-dimensional villain.
That said, while the Greens are shit, they wouldnā€™t have been able to pull this off if not for two people: Jaehaerys and Viserys.
Jaehaerys was no conciliator, he was a capitulator. He kneeled to the Faith, was a shit father to his daughter, clearly a rampant misogynist, and allowed theseĀ ā€œlesserā€ Andal lords a say in the governing and succession of the House of the Dragon. His entire shtick about Targaryen exceptionalism was thrown out the window the moment he didnā€™t want a woman on the throne. He is the root of all evil. Alysanne was a far better queen than he was a king.
Ah, Viserys the Peaceful. More like Viserys the Fool. The only reason he even sat the throne was because his brother assembled an army for him. Well, that and because his grandfather was clearly a deep-rooted women-hater. He was a moron. I saw someone describe him as using his kindness and peaceful nature to cloak what hides beneath: weakness. He was so easily manipulated and his actions led to the death of the dragons.
It is no coincidence it all went wrong for the Targaryens the moment the King wed an Andal. You can disagree with Daemon's Valyrian supremacy all you'd like, but he was right. The moment they "bred" with lesser beings, it all went to shit. They should have kept it to the Velaryons, Celtigars, Baratheons or the bastard Valyrians from the Free Cities.
The Greensā€™ treason caused the death of the dragons and was the reason the Seven Kingdoms were unprepared for the Night King and his armies.

ā¤ļø āš¾ļø Play Along āš¾ļø ā¤ļø | a Jonerys AU
ā€œCā€™mon wife, play along.ā€
ā€œI think I might have a crush on my husband.ā€
In which the Winterfell Wolvesā€™ highly overqualified athletic trainer Dany Targaryen wakes up in Dorne with a hangover and no memory of getting married to the teamā€™s star shortstop Jon Snow, who is the most persistant man sheā€™s ever met. Also the sexiest. Also the one man she cannot have if she has any hope of keeping her job.
In which star shortstop Jon Snow figures the best way to save Danyā€™s job after their drunken elopement is to pretend it was a planned event and theyā€™ve been together this whole time. Danyā€™s not thrilled. Jon totally is. You see, heā€™s been in love with her since the day he met her and now he finally has his shotā€¦.if only she would just play along.
A Jonerys AU of Liz Tomfordeā€™s book, Play Along.
For @youwerenevermine I should have waited until your birthday but I couldnā€™t help myself. šŸ¤ I made it while at the damn baseball game and had to share!

JONERYS FALLING FOR YOUĀ |Ā JON x DANY | RATING: M | GOT | 7K | YELLOWJACKETS AU
Day 4 | Exploring Nature AU + Day 1 | Wearing His Hoodie or Cloak.
Wild Hearts Unveiled
Jonā€™s an outsider just like herself, yet for vastly different reasons. Heā€™s grumpy and equally solitary. But heā€™s not part of their team and thatā€™s why no one cares about his opinions. Regarding his purpose and why heā€™s even here, Daenerys doesn't know. She pretends not to care. And still she can't ignore the feeling of his dark eyes resting on her wherever she goes.
Shout out to @iceandfirejonerysdiscord for organising this and to @rainhalydia and @arielchelby for the beta reading!šŸ’™

ships i like from got and hotd
i am very much a multi-shipper when it comes to the universe GRRM has written, i do have to say however there is one ship that i really dislike and will NEVER read; Jonerys (Jon Snow/Daenerys Targaryen), i always stop reading when this ship is mentioned in fanfiction and i will unfollow blogs that ship it. i ship people that i think would be good or interesting together (or if i just like both characters and would find them cute together)
got (game of thrones)
Jon Snow/Sansa Stark
Jon Snow/Ygritte
Samwell Tarly/Gilly
Khal Drogo/Daenerys Targaryen (i know this one is a bit controversial but i found them so cute by the end)
Sansa Stark/Tyrion Lannister
Jorah Mormont/Daenerys Targaryen (more tv show than the books)
Margaery Tyrell/Sansa Stark
Oberyn Martell/Ellaria Sand (just make Ellaria her season 4 characterisation or book ver because she is so weird in the tv show after s4)
Oberyn Martell/Sansa Stark
Oberyn Martell/Sansa Stark/Ellaria Sand (in a triangle type polyamorous relationship, i dislike reading v-shaped relationships)
Bran Stark/Meera Reed
Rickon Stark/Shireen Baratheon
Gendry Waters/Arya Stark
Sandor Clegane/Sansa Stark
Jon Snow/Arya Stark
Jon Snow/Robb Stark
Myranda/Ramsay Bolton (i love evil people with evil people that enable them to do more evil)
Trystane Martell/Myrcella Baratheon
Tormund Giantsbane/Brienne of Tarth
Talisa Maegyr/Robb Stark (i love Talisa, i thought their love story was such a cute thing from the show)
Arya Stark/Tywin Lannister (give me grown up version of Arya with Tywin, especially if they make the harrenhal scenes canon, *chef's kiss*)
Arya Stark/Jaqen H'ghar
Missandei/Grey Worm
Missandei/Daenerys Targaryen
Jaime Lannister/Cersei Lannister (toxic but they died in each others arms, tv show only)
Jaime Lannister/Brienne of Tarth
Mirri Maz Duur/Revenge (Mirri deserved her revenge even if it inconvenienced Dany a bit)
Catelyn Tully/Ned Stark
Elia Martell/Rhaegar Targaryen/Lyanna Stark (i can only get behind Rhaegar/Lyanna if Elia is there with them and they all survive, otherwise its just shipping 2 people that started a rebellion because they didn't tell anyone what they were doing or a guy who stole and raped a women. Elia basically deserved better)
Aegon VI Targaryen (Young Griff)/Sansa Stark
Aegon VI Targaryen (Young Griff)/Arya Stark
Robb Stark/Roslin Frey
Loras Tyrell/Renly Baratheon
Stannis Baratheon/Davos Seaworth
Sansa Stark/Theon Greyjoy
hotd (house of the dragon)

Rhaenyra Targaryen/Daemon Targaryen/Laenor Velaryon/Laena Velaryon/Harwin Strong
Laenor Velaryon/Daemon Targaryen
Harwin Strong/Daemon Targaryen
Laenor Velaryon/Harwin Strong
BASICALLY IF YOU COULDN'T TELL FROM THE ABSOLUTE LIST ABOVE I SHIP THE 5 (Rhaenyra, Laena, Daemon, Laenor, Harwin) IN ANY COMBINATION POSSIBLE BUT I CAN'T THINK OF ANY MORE COMBINATIONS RIGHT NOW
Aegon II Targaryen/Rhaenyra Targaryen/Daemon Targaryen
Aemond Targaryen/Helaena Targaryen
Baela Targaryen/Jacaerys Velaryon
Rhaena Targaryen/Lucerys Velaryon
Jacaerys Targaryen/Cregan Stark/Baela Targaryen (again in a triangle not a v)
Baela Targaryen/Lucerys Velaryon
Rhaena Targaryen/Jacaerys Velaryon
Aegon III Targaryen/Daenaera Velaryon
Aemond Targaryen/Lucerys Velaryon (only in very specific circumstances; (1) when Aemond turns to team Black/doesn't fight for team Green, (2) when Rhaenyra is guaranteed to become Queen in the fic or (3) non-canon compliant e.g. no killing Lucerys, etc.)
Alicent Hightower/Criston Cole (they deserve each other, both sexually repressed and doing things for 'duty' sake)
Corlys Velaryon/Rhaenys Targaryen
Laenor Velaryon/Joffrey Lonmouth
Laenor Velaryon/Qarl Correy

You said that you donā€™t like Jonerys, but do you see it happening in the books? Do you see them actually falling in love?
there is nothing about their personalities that has ever lead me to believe theyā€™d be capable of tolerating each other for more than 10 minutes before a slap fight started. nor do i think jon will be amenable to making any more alliances with targaryens after aegon vi dies, especially with the North in such peril due to the others. that + sansaā€™s distrust of The Great Game & the people who play it + arya spending half her storyline in a city that hated valyria & itā€™s legacy of slavery + bran telling br he can take his borg hivemind and shove it all leads me to believe that the starks are gonna be petty at best & actively hostile to the iron throne at worst by the time dany lands.
and by the time dany landsā€¦weā€™ll have the burning in vaes dothrak, which is likely to be a huge moral turning point for her bc as george said, her being unburnt was a once in a lifetime magic event. sheā€™s likely ordering drogon to burn the khals which is so much different - and more villainous! - than just lighting a torch & watching the place go up in flame. weā€™ll have ā€œto go west you must go eastā€ which is going to involve her sacking a city with the dothraki. weā€™ll have the battle of fire in meereen & a team up with a greyjoy which just spells disaster. then she lands in westeros with an army made up of dothraki screamers, unsullied slaves, and headed by jorah fucking mormont and a greyjoy. iā€™m not even sure when she has the time to meet jon let alone get dicked down by him!
(part of my ā€œsnowspear is realā€ trutherism is that i think dany in the show was given like half of aegon viā€™s plot. considering arianne is going to meet them at stormā€™s end, which is a hop, skip, and jump away from dragonstone, it makes way more sense to me that the main targ the starklings would be dealing with is aegon. i also think that jon finding out heā€™s lyanna & rhaegarā€™s as heā€™s dealing with rhaegarā€™s trueborn son & has completely thrown his lot in with the north is gonna hit way more emotionally than jon finding out he fucked his aunt. george does a lot with romance, this is true, but the main relationships in this series? theyā€™re siblings! theyā€™re parents & children! cersei & robert are haunted by the ghost of lyanna but lyanna has always been a stand in for robertā€™s love for NED. cat & nedā€™s relationship is doomed before it even starts by LYANNA and JON, not by a former lover! all three lannister kids wonder how their lives would have turned out if their mother had lived!! itā€™s about ~these ties that bind us~ itā€™s about the human heart in conflict with itself! i just donā€™t see how you pass up two unknown half brothers meeting & clashing & then finding out theyā€™re related in favor ofā€¦a very predictable, very boring romance between your fire & ice coded mains).
tldr i still generally feel no bc iā€™ve never thought theyā€™d get along very well, plus thereā€™s no time, but iā€™m pretty ready to eat my words on that one and cringe my way through a sex scene between them.

Team Black loves boasting about how Daemyra is a superior ship (*cough* Jonerys *cough*) and harping about how Caraxes and Syrax flying and coiling and having eggs together is a parallel to Daemyra.
How Daemyra ended: Daemon and Caraxes fucking off to fight Aemond and Vaghar and abandoning Rhaenyra and Syrax to fend for themselves and their young.

you can never find someone/something [blog] that has it all, it's always one or the other šŸ„².
just to put it into context, I like sansa and she is my nr.1 qitn, she got everything she deserved, I also don't particularly enjoy daenerys' character but she's still fun to watch until she starts interacting with Jon in season 7, jonerys is my notp (you can't make me read anything with it I will click off ANY fic as soon as its mentioned jon and dany are together anywhere within the world, even if I've read like 1/2 of the story already)
but at the same time I'm soo on team Black's side, rhaenyra deserved to be queen, the only reason she didn't get crowned was because of everyone on team green being misogynists (i.e. little bitch boy otto thinking he's all big). I had already made up my mind on this during the history and lore for season 5 of got, its been ingrained in my veins that rhaenyra is the queen since then and reading fire and blood just cemented that till death. so suddenly all the blogs I had been following since got have turned to team green and I've had to suffer slowly unfollowing and blocking each and everyone of them because I want my tumblr to be curated to me.
basically a lot of the team black blogs I find post things that are anti sansa and VERY pro dany (I'm good with saying you enjoy dany but I do think she's a villain in the end and will be so in the books, but again that doesn't mean she IS a bad character, I enjoy her povs in the book and liked her scenes until around season 7, so obviously there is something good about her) and so I don't want that in my feed but then a lot of sansa blogs are team green which I despise.
tldr; just me lamenting that I can't find any blogs that post things I don't vehemently disagree with in either team black or sansa stans blogs. I better stick with tagged posts only

"How beautiful, the queen tried to tell herself, but inside her was some foolish little girl who could not help but look about for Daario. If he loved you, he would come and carry you off atĀ swordpoint, as Rhaegar carried off his northern girl, the girl in her insisted, but the queen knew that was folly..." -A Dance with Dragons - Daenerys VII
"I would need toĀ stealĀ her if I wanted her love, but she might give me children. I might someday hold a son of my own blood in my arms. A son was something Jon Snow had never dared dream of, since he decided to live his life on the Wall. I could name him Robb." -A Storm of Swords -Jon XII
Daenerys wanting Daario to carry her off at sword point, and Jon thinking of stealing Val for her love. Two parallels of one girl wanting to be stolen, and one boy wanting to steal someone. Both for love.
"None of them had ever seen a direwolf before, he realized, and Ghost was twice as large as the common wolves that prowled their southron greenwoods. As he walked toward the armory, Jon chanced to look up and saw Val standing in her tower window. I'm sorry, he thought. I'm not the man toĀ stealĀ you out of there." -A Storm of Swords - Jon XII
"Even if her captain was mad enough to attempt it, the Brazen Beasts would cut him down before he got within a hundred yards of her." -A Dance with Dragons - Daenerys VII
Jon is sorry he can't steal away Val, and Daenerys reflects on the fact that even if Daario did attempt to carry her off at sword point, he'd be cut down.
Both Jon and Daenerys have a sense of romanticism in their POV's. Both are hopeless romantics (perhaps Daenerys more so than Jon in a sense). Both want love, despite denying it deep down. Jon because he's a man of the Night's Watch and a bastard. Daenerys because she is a Queen over her people and accepts duty over giving in to "girlish" thoughts.
Both had found love within confinement. Jon having fallen for Ygritte while pretending to be on the Freefolk's side. Daenerys having found a twisted love in Drogo after being sold to him as a bridal slave. Both were coerced into sexual relations with Ygritte and Drogo. Both had to watch Ygritte and Drogo die (and Dany killed Drogo out of mercy).
"He foundĀ YgritteĀ sprawled across a patch of old snow beneath the Lord Commander's Tower, with an arrow between her breasts. The ice crystals had settled over her face, and in the moonlight it looked as though she wore a glittering silver mask [...] "Oh." Ygritte cupped his cheek with her hand. "You know nothing, Jon Snow," she sighed, dying. -A Storm of Swords - Jon VII
"And when the bleak dawn broke over an empty horizon, Dany knew that he was truly lost to her. ā€œWhen the sun rises in the west and sets in the east,ā€ she said sadly. ā€œWhen the seas go dry and mountains blow in the wind like leaves. When my womb quickens again, and I bear a living child. Then you will return, my sun-and-stars, and not before.ā€ Never, the darkness cried,Ā never never never. Inside the tent Dany found a cushion, soft silk stuffed with feathers. She clutched it to her breasts as she walked back out to Drogo, to her sun-and-stars.Ā If I look back I am lost. It hurt even to walk, and she wanted to sleep, to sleep and not to dream. She knelt, kissed Drogo on the lips, and pressed the cushion down across his face." -A Game of Thrones - Daenerys IX
Both Jon and Daenerys have also found interest again after the deaths of Ygritte and Drogo. Jon wants Val, and Daenerys sleeps with Daario and may perhaps love him, but doubts over her relations with Daario. Both focus on their duties over giving in to what they really want. Daenerys even marries again for peace over giving in to what she really wants.
Both Jon and Daenerys think of having children, but push away the ideal. Jon due to being a member of the Night's Watch and a bastard. Daenerys due to thinking she is barren/cursed by Mirri Maz Duur and can never again have a child born from her.
Jon reflects that if he ever had a son, he'd name him Robb after his brother. Daenerys when pregnant with Drogo's child names her son Rhaego after her brother.
Jon is the secret son of Rhaegar and Lyanna. Lyanna is associated with blue winter roses:
"He was walking through the crypts beneath Winterfell, as he had walked a thousand times before. The Kings of Winter watched him pass with eyes of ice, and the direwolves at their feet turned their great stone heads and snarled. Last of all, he came to the tomb where his father slept, with Brandon and Lyanna beside him. "Promise me, Ned," Lyanna's statue whispered. She wore a garland of paleĀ blueĀ roses, and her eyes wept blood." -A Game of Thrones - Eddard XIII
"Robert had been jesting with Jon and old Lord Hunter as the prince circled the field after unhorsing Ser Barristan in the final tilt to claim the champion's crown. Ned remembered the moment when all the smiles died, when Prince Rhaegar Targaryen urged his horse past his own wife, the Dornish princess Elia Martell, to lay the queen of beauty's laurel in Lyanna's lap. He could see it still: a crown of winterĀ roses,Ā blueĀ as frost." -A Game of Thrones - Eddard XV
When Daenerys has visions in the House of the Undying, she sees the Wall:
"AĀ blue flowerĀ grewĀ fromĀ aĀ chinkĀ inĀ aĀ wall of ice, and filled the air with sweetness. . . . mother of dragons, bride of fire . . ." -A Clash of Kings - Daenerys IV
Jon is the 'blue flower' she sees growing from the wall of ice, filling the air with 'sweetness'. Jon is Lyanna's son. Both carry blue flower representation.
Jon also wants to know everything there is about his mother; who she was, if she loved him, what sort of person she was. Just alike to how Daenerys wants to learn and know everything she can about Rhaegar, as she also idolizes him in a sense. Both have thoughts about these people. Jon constantly thinks about his mother (Lyanna even if he does not know yet who she is); Daenerys often thinks of Rhaegar (despite never knowing him). Both think of these people despite them already being gone from the world, and both only wish they could have known who they truly were as people and can only guess how Lyanna and Rhaegar would've thought or acted.
Jon thinks of having dragons at the Wall:
"We should have twenty trebuchets, not two, and they should be mounted on sledges and turntables so we could move them. It wasĀ aĀ futile thought. He might as well wish for another thousand men, and maybeĀ aĀ dragonĀ orĀ three." -A Storm of Swords - Jon VIII
When Jon dies, Daenerys hears a wolf howling in the distance:
"Off in the distance, aĀ wolfĀ howled. The sound made her feel sad and lonely, but no less hungry. As the moon rose above the grasslands, Dany slipped at last into a restless sleep." -A Dance with Dragons - Daenerys X
Both have an association/thought relating to one another's animal sigil/companion. Jon thinks of wishing for three dragons (Daenerys' house sigil and her dragon children). Daenerys hears a wolf howling when Jon dies, making her feel sad and lonely (Jon's house sigil through Lyanna/Ned and his direwolf Ghost).
Both Jon and Daenerys dream of home. Daenerys with the house with the red door and the lemon tree. Jon with Winterfell.
Both are estranged from their families (Jon being at the Wall. Daenerys being in Essos and the last of her family having died).
Both have lost their brothers in different means. Both have had their mothers die from childbirth and never got to meet them. Both of their fathers (Rhaegar and Aerys) died during the Rebellion.
Both had arcs of leadership and rule, and struggle with their decisions and making hard choices. Jon winds up killed due to his choices at the end of ADWD, and Daenerys becomes stranded in the Dothraki Sea due to her choice of saving Drogon (and her people from Drogon) from the fighting pit and escaping on dragonback.
While Daenerys thinks of taking the IT as a duty due to being the last of her family and Viserys' last living heir, Jon admits to wanting to become Lord of Winterfell but turning the opportunity away.

99 percent of the shit Arya stans do/say is in reaction to Sansa stans and it's not even funny anymore lmao, like it's actually concerning. My favorite in recent memory is how Arya stans saw Sansa fans becoming fans of/defending Alicent and now all of a sudden Arya fans just loveeeee Rhaenyra and Team Black (after not giving a single fuck about her or any of the Fire and Blood background targs) and are now writing and sharing metas about how evil and misogynist the Sansa/Alicent stans and how Girl Boss Slay Rhaenyra is lmaoo. Truly living rent free in their minds.
This coupled with the Dany stans who used to talk shit about Rhaenyra back in 2018 and 2019 and would write posts saying Dany was a good queen whereas Rhaenyra was lazy and incompetent but now Dany stans have latched onto Rhaenyra and have included her alongside Dany at the head of the Wronged Dragon Queen Slay Girl Boss Martyr Table is fucking hilarious. LMAO.
My favorite in recent memory is how Arya stans saw Sansa fans becoming fans of/defending Alicent and now all of a sudden Arya fans just loveeeee Rhaenyra and Team Black
They did this with Dany. It's been a long time but I definitely remember when the anti Dany tag had more Arya fans than Sansa fans. They only started to switch when S7 aired and it became obvious to everyone (even those in denial) that Sansa wasn't going to be riding on the Jonerys/Targ restoration train.
LMAO
I def remember this too. This need for Dany stans to pretend they like every single Targaryen is new (and strange). Rhaenyra was very unpopular before the show aired and I personally don't think she's popular now so much as the audience recognising that she's a protagonist (alongside Alicent). The fanbase is more interested in writing Daemon/Aemond/Aegon reader fics than anything to do with Rhaenyra. I actually only see her in posts that are more to do with Team Black as a concept than Rhaenyra herself.
Anyway HOTD content is nothing more than GoT fans fighting over the same shit they've been arguing over since 2017. I can't say I blame them, it isn't like the show's writing can inspire any real passion.

book!Tyrion and book!Daenerys are my favourite characters. I have been looking forward to them meeting since the first time I picked up A Game of Thrones, so when the promo pictures of them meeting in season five came out I was beyond excited.
For a while that continued, even though for whatever reason they started dumbing down Tyrion. Their chemistry was remarkable and it felt like their story could be the backbone of the remainder of the show.
It sorta was but not in a good way.
Tyrion was pushed to the background in favour of the least interesting Northerner alive, Jon Snow, and eventually Rhaegar's bastard started cannibalizing Daenerys too.
The worst thing is that while I did not love book!Jon, I did quite like him. However, his show!version has made me hope Dany and Jon never meet, or that he stays dead.
I know there is a chance that George never finishes the book series because the man is getting up there in years, but I hope to at least read of Tyrion and Dany meeting.
The show broke me, and it seems like House of the Dragon is on its way to doing the same. Great characters are butchered in favour of villains and book!canon is pushed aside.
It's still in the early stages but anyone interested in a Tyion-centric post-season eight/seven-year time jump story, come have a look at my Patreon: patreon.com/DestroyerofNations. The story is called amidst salt and smoke, and it is Tyrion coming to terms with his faults and his hand in Daenerys' death. There are going to be many twists and turns along the way, and there are some surprising and not-so-surprising villains. I am going to post the first chapter on AO3 next week as well.

Gossip Girl Appreciation Week | Day 6: AU
The Grossly Indulgent Pop Music AU I will never write:
Inspired by one of the only Jonerys fics I like.Ā
Not quite a fic, but not not a fic, hereā€™s an unhinged idea that grabbed hold and wouldnā€™t let me go. The music is a loose jumping off point of inspiration, in that all the characters have one or two artist equivalents. I use their music as the charactersā€™ work in this universe. So itā€™s like an AU of pop musiciansā€™ lives, but not really, since I donā€™t know their biographies, just their music. Itā€™s fanfic, you know how it is.
Enclosed beneath the cut you shall find: dairfair, negatively painted jenny/damien & chair, some positive jenate, and a inkling at my newest ot3 vanessa/aaron/serena. And lots of opaque music references.
image sources: (x)(x)(x)(x)(x)(x)(x)(x)(x)
Blair and Serena come up in a lab-grown pop girl group in their teens (sample track here), but break off for their own solo acts after a few years. They have a friend breakup after that. Diss tracks are written. (Inspo: Honey & Bad Blood) the final (supposedly) proverbial nail in the coffin of their friendship is when Blair marries record label exec Chuck Bass.
(Needless to say, Chuck is a piece of shit. Living off family money and power, using his title to back young women artists into a corner. Blair thinks she conquered the beast by putting a ring on it but, well, you know.) (While Jenny Humphrey is coming up sheā€™s one of the artists Chuck harasses. She refuses to sign with his label and tells him to fuck off.)
The rumors as to why their girl group break up run wild, and they mutate with each tabloid run, growing more and more ridiculous, but, like many rumors, they did spring from a small seed of truth.Ā
Blair was ambitious, and always used the act as an opportunity to set herself up for a solo career. Serena was her best friend, but whereas Blair had to work hard at everything that came with this job, it was like Serena didnā€™t have to try at all. She was the darling of the interviews, of the fans. The favorite on the covers of magazines and music videos. Serena was getting solo offers since their debut, but turned them down, until she didnā€™t.Ā
Their group toured with a team of dancers, also all carefully selected by the label. Nate Archibald was one of the fan favorites, and the label quickly paired him and Blair together for publicity. Blair was always just a little more invested than Nate was. He wasnā€™t even sure if this career, this lifestyle was what he wanted, but Blair was more than sure, was constantly working to get ahead. But the label kept them together, until they figured they could pair Nate with Serena instead. (And Nate didnā€™t fight it, because heā€™d always carried a torch for Serena anyway).
It wasnā€™t the first fight between the friends, nor the last, but it was the big frisson that they couldnā€™t come back from. The group held on for another album, but it was clear that they couldnā€™t go on. Blair and Serena signed solo contracts, and Blair got close with Chuck Bass, and that was the final straw for Serena.Ā
Nate tried to stay friends with both of them through it, but he was also coming to the conclusion that he didnā€™t want to keep up this lifestyle. He quit performing to go to school, and he found his niche teaching dance to kidsā€”not at a university level, not with the intention to make future professionals, but just to young people looking for something to love. It suits him, and he becomes a reality check for his two high profile best friends. Or he tries to be, but their lives keep pulling them away from New York, so he sees them less and less.
(The other two members of the group move on to other adjacent things. Kati founds her own fashion labelā€”available in Targets everywhere!ā€”and Iz becomes a judge on one of those Americaā€™s Got It Factor Talent Shows).
Post girlgroup, Serena runs a Kesha-like life, pop hits made for club dancing. Her character is much more glittering and reckless than Serena might prefer to be, but sheā€™s in the game so long that it sort of ā€“ becomes her from time to time.
Serena works tirelessly, keeps trying to break out of her brand of the out of control party girl, but her label, the one she was brought up on, founded by her maternal grandfather, wants her to keep making what sells. Her brother Eric tries to fight her corner, but heā€™s only a junior employee. After a handful of solo albums and years of endless touring, she burns out. Eric gives her a place to be and rest, and she tries to figure out what the hell sheā€™s going to do. She wants to make more music, but of what?
Blair is taylor-esque, clinging to her brand of The Good Girl from her teen career into adulthood. The reputation and her general effervescence add sparkle to the Bass brand, clean it up a little. Itā€™s a symbiotic business relationship, until it isnā€™t.Ā
Chuck progressively tries to exercise more control over the music she puts out, to the point that Blair justā€¦doesnā€™t. Her last album under the Bass label is the one she released with tracks that allude to their relationship, her victory lap for landing the billionaire bachelor whale, as it were (Style, Wildest Dreams, Wonderland, I Know Places). Sheā€™s more clever than some give her credit. For example, the tongue-in-cheek ā€œBlank Spaceā€ belies an artistic self-awareness. Which is why, even though they arenā€™t in the same genres, Jenny Humphrey respects her.Ā
Speaking of Jenny: the Humphreys!
Rufus Humphrey, frontrunner of the early 90s outfit Lincoln Hawk, enjoyed a good run when his kids were little, then a less lucrative run as a solo artist, before he finally settled into producing. He runs a small, proud independent label with his old bandmate, and they pride themselves on supporting talent that the bigger corporate labels pass over. Both his kids, Dan and Jenny, make music with him.Ā
They grew up playing piano, then graduated to guitar, then spiraled on from there. Dan joins his first band when heā€™s sixteen, playing keys for his best friendā€™s big sisterā€™s band. Ruby Abrams and her bandmates affectionately call him an honorary lesbian, and after gigging with them for about a year, Dan comes out as bi. (his three sisters: Jenny, Vanessa, and Ruby, are already out)
His best friend Vanessa is also a musician. She tries to go the classical route, wanting to usurp her parentsā€™ and her sisterā€™s expectations, but ultimately finds her happy in the indie folk niche that Rufus curates. (Think Lucy Daucus & Maya Hawke) Vanessaā€™s favorite instrument is bass, but she can find her way around a keyboard or guitar.Ā
Jenny is the real prodigy, though. She has her guitars and piano and even a mandolin, but sheā€™s restless at sticking to just one sound, so she experiments with them all. Fulfilling, absolutely, but itā€™s a long time before she puts out a full length record.Ā
Dan and Jennyā€™s parents break up while the kids are in college. With Rufus touring as much as he was when they were young, Alison did the heavy lifting raising them, and now that theyā€™re grown she kind of ā€“ has a Mom Drop. She moves back home to the Bay Area, and Dan ends up following her to California, needing to get out of New York and get some distance from his dad.Ā
Jenny stays in New York, taking classes, making music. She starts dating a much older artistā€”heā€™s not on her dadā€™s label (which is part of the appeal) ā€”but he has a complimentary sound. After the mess that was her model gf Agnes, Jenny is hoping for something steadier, but thatā€™s not what it becomes. Being with Damien Dalgaard, darling of the Guy with Guitar genre, ends up being more of a mindfuck. (John Mayer. Damienā€™s basically John Mayer.)
Rufus tries to put his foot down (even though Jennyā€™s an adult) and Vanessa tries to help, but itā€™s one of those things where the toxic relationship just has to run its course, even if it puts Jenny into major spotlight for the first time. Itā€™s rough on her, but she makes it through and out of the relationship. And, at least she comes out of it with enough material to graduate from EPs and make for her first full length album: Badlands.
Jenny starts out this au Halsey-like, but evolves her sound back to her rock folk indie origins, a sound like Julien Baker.Ā
Meanwhile, Dan tries his luck as a musician on the West Coast, immersing himself in the scene there. He joins the roster of another band, and has enough skill to make income as a session musician to cover the difference, which leads him to another band. He still tries writing, but heā€™s so busy making other peopleā€™s music come alive that he doesnā€™t get far.Ā
At one concert or another he bumps into Serena van der Woodsen. Sheā€™s fun, and smart, and stupid hot, and more miraculously, she is into him. They date for a while, but her life in the spotlight as a partying popstar gets more and more chaotic, and Dan canā€™t keep up, and heā€™s not really sure he wants to. The break up amicably, but it still stings enough to generate some songs, ones he doesnā€™t have time to record.Ā
He keeps dating around. Serena sets him up with one of her friends, an actor, Carter Baizen, but he works so much too that it doesnā€™t go anywhere at the time. And then, thereā€™s Georgina,
At the beginning, Georgina the heiress from Bel-Air just seems like another in a line of innocuous bad decisions Danā€™s made since moving to LA. Sheā€™s crazy, but sheā€™s hot, and fun, and itā€™s a good time until it fizzles out.Ā
Then, months later, when Danā€™s offered a spot in a backup band for someone, Georgina shows up at his door, pregnant.Ā
The Milo plot unfolds, Dan steps away from his music, works only on what will pay bills and keep life stable for the baby. Georgina flakes, and flakes, until she doesnā€™t, until she decides to tell Dan the truth about Miloā€™s paternity and take him with her, all the way back to her parentā€™s mansion in Connecticut.Ā
After everything, his parents, Serena, Georgina, everything going on with Jenny, Dan just kind ofā€¦breaks. He deflates, struggles, holes up in his crummy apartment on the eastside of Los Angeles until Vanessa bullies him into coming back to New York.Ā
Being around each other again helps the Humphrey siblings reset. Jenny is already promoting Badlands, and Dan becomes her roadie, proudly cheering her on from the sidelines, even while the contents of her lyrics are absolutely gutting.Ā
He keeps trying and failing to write, until both V and Jen tell him that heā€™s trying too hard to ā€œmake it into something.ā€ Jenny just tells him to write and see what comes out, and however it sounds, it sounds.Ā
Ā So he does. Itā€™s not quite the folk his mother raised them on, or the 90s rock of their dad, or the punk that Danā€™s been a support player in all these years. Itā€™s softer than that, but more jagged too. But he plays a demo for Jenny and Vanessa and keeps on going.Ā
Jenny is a big believer in using songwriting as some sort of ā€œexorcist.ā€ Spit out all the bad shit, pour it into a song, put it into a vessel that doesnā€™t hurt you anymore. Danā€™s style is a little bit different from his sisterā€™s. Sheā€™s braver than he is ā€“ is okay to take her emotion and throw it out into her singing, but Dan thinks he might not be that tough.Ā
For example, the stuff about Milo, Dan canā€™t even say it directly. He writes about it sure, but it comes out a mess, until heā€™s not sure if heā€™s talking about himself, or Milo, or even Georgina. He canā€™t even bring himself to mention either of them by name, just names a song after an approximation. Georgia. He also writes his first of many storytelling songs: You Missed My Heart.
He gets enough positivity from the demo for a record deal, and the leading single, Motion Sickness, does better than Dan thought it would. He says it has to be because thereā€™s more residual interest in one of Serena van der Woodsenā€™s exes than he thought. Jenny and Vanessa share a look, because he really is that good though.Ā
And after years of work behind the curtain, Dan Humphrey is getting vested interest in his own songs, and whatā€™s more, heā€™s written something worth singing. Stranger in the Alps launches an entirely new phase of his career, and, as it turns out, his personal life.Ā
Blair doesnā€™t travel in the circles of the mid-level artist, but at a festival, purely by chance, she ends up in Dan Humphreyā€™s car.Ā
Itā€™s not Danā€™s first festival gig, but this is definitely the biggest, and the best spot heā€™s ever gotten in a lineup. The true sign that heā€™s on the up and up, though, is that heā€™s provided transportation.Ā
After sound check before his gig, heā€™s herded back to his car, to go back to his hotel before he goes on later tonight.
But then this girl gets in with him.Ā
Blair had had it with her handler (her husbandā€™s goon), and paparazzi were starting to catch the scentā€”as far as the public knew, she still had the perfect fairytale dream marriageā€”so she co-opted this nobody indie guyā€™s ride as her getaway car.Ā
Danā€™s bewildered, and irritated, but also kind of charmed. Itā€™s a nice break in the routine, accidentally kidnapping a princess of pop.Ā
He invites her to see his set, which she scoffs at, but she googles him as soon as sheā€™s back in her hotel room. And then, she pulls strings so she can watch his set from backstage. (He covers ā€œIā€™m on Fire,ā€ and she absolutely does not think that itā€™s hot).Ā
They have a drink in the green room after, and donā€™t stop talking until a festival staff person kicks them out because the venueā€™s shutting down for the night.Ā
AND SO IT BEGINS.Ā
She arranges for him to see her headlining set, and then after, she asks him what he thought, and he tells her. Like, actually tells her. Sheā€™s a good artist, with talent, but she keeps dumbing it down, and why?Ā
He essentially says sheā€™s better than this, and she tells him to fuck off, and tells him that just because not every single one of my songs is about angsting alone on the bedroom floor doesnā€™t make me shallow, Humphrey. (and thatā€™s his Moment.)
Sheā€™d been after compliments, some vague idea that heā€™d be blown away by how good she is, and sheā€™d get a positive review for once. Which is so stupid, why should she even care what a nobody like Dan Humphrey thinks?
But he is not a nobody, not anymore.
She looks him up after the festival. His star is definitely rising. A child of nepotism, his father was in a popular band in the late 80s and early 90s, and so Dan and his little sister grew up close to the business. Humphreyā€™s been in a couple bands since he was sixteen (started young like her), but after those broke up, and a couple lost years that google canā€™t account for, he released a solo album and just like that, people are paying attention, beyond just the indie bubble.Ā
Blair recognizes his sister, Jenny Humphrey, and even has one of her albums saved in her library. Not something Blair would make, but itā€™s decent.Ā
She digs a little more, trying to figure out those lost years, but comes up empty. She does find, however, that Humphrey famously dated Serena a few years back, Google is rife with paparazzi photos of them in LA. And he accused her of making shallow music? Serenaā€™s solo work is nothing but her belting about parties and drugs and sex to heavy beats. Club music. Music to have parties, drugs, and sex, too.Ā
Finding out his history with Serena is enough for Blair to write off Dan Humphrey as a hack, an aberration. A way to pass the time at a festival gig and distract herself from her own life.Ā
But, Blair finds Dan Humphrey is becoming increasingly unavoidable. Heā€™s doing one talk show appearance while sheā€™s at another studio a few floors up. Heā€™s moved back to New York, he tells her, just until he goes on tour again. He invites her to a show, at some dive in Brooklyn sheā€™s never heard of. For that, she nearly doesnā€™t even go.Ā
But then, she does.Ā
For security reasons, she sneaks in the back, aided by her assistant Epperly, and watches from the closet that counts as a backstage. Itā€™s an acoustic set, and Dan plays arrangements of his solo album (that she absolutely did NOT listen to), plus some covers. In fact, he covers one of her songs. ā€œBlank Space,ā€ mashed up with ā€œStand by Me.ā€ He introduces it by saying, ā€œI really love the melodies in this song, I think itā€™s just really good melody writing.ā€ And it feels likeā€¦an apology.Ā
They keep meeting up, but now, itā€™s on purpose, not accidental. Theyā€™re both in New York for the time being anyways, Dan is getting some rest before the European leg of his album tour, and Blair is supposed to be working on a new album before her own, but sheā€™s gotā€¦nothing. Less than nothing. And Chuck knows that, which means itā€™s harder and harder to have him around.Ā
Besides, thereā€™s no rule that she canā€™t have friends. Honestly, with how her career is, she doesnā€™t really have any. Thereā€™s Epperly, and Dorota, maybe Nate. Sheā€™s married, but sheā€™s not sure she would call Chuck her friend.Ā
She and Dan though, they have a real connection. And they can be just friends.Ā
Since she has absolutely no new songs to record, she leaves for Europe a couple weeks early, she tells Chuck itā€™s to visit her parents in Paris and get inspired, but then, at the last minute, she changes her itinerary, and goes to Dublin instead, where Danā€™s first gig is.Ā
Blairā€™s been letting herself and this friendship live in plausible deniability, but as sheā€™s learned more about Dan, about the kind of person and artist that he is, she knows that isnā€™t really his thing, and when she appears at his show in Dublin, he refuses to let it go, and Blair, worn thin byā€¦literally everything else, canā€™t keep up the denial anymore, and tells him to bring her back to his hotel.Ā
Itā€™s a mistake, itā€™s such a mistake. Blairā€™s life is already precarious enough as it is. Chuckā€™s label owns her contracts, her catalog, and basically her. Sheā€™s been over and over it, and canā€™t see a way out. She wanted to be on top, and that was the price.Ā
But, Dan.Ā
Being with him feels like waking up after spending her entire adult life asleep. Sheā€™s excited about music again, about making something. She writes, then hides it all away, because she canā€™t record songs about being in love with someone else on her husbandā€™s dime.Ā
She has her tour, and Dan has his, but they meet on every overlapping date. Sometimes sheā€™s so tired after a concert all she has energy to do is sleep in his arms, but even that stolen time feels sacred.Ā
When their tour legs end, Dan tentatively asks if itā€™s the end, but she really doesnā€™t want it to be.Ā
Heā€™s back in New York City at first, so thatā€™s easier, and harder, because Chuck is there too. Thankfully, Blairā€™s sales were high enough that sheā€™s in his good graces, and when she slips away itā€™s easy enough to say sheā€™s working on something new. She practically sees cartoon dollar signs flash in Chuckā€™s eyes when she does. How she ever thought that this could be her happily ever after, sheā€™ll never know.Ā
She and Dan talk about that, about living in stories and wanting fairytales but being smacked down by real life. She tells him that she doesnā€™t feel like she belongs to herself anymore, how she doesnā€™t want to write anymore if it means that Chuck will profit off it, but if she walks away, all those things she believed, promised, sung, was all of it for nothing?Ā
She wrote love songs about Chuck, for Chuck. Her lifeā€™s work is tangled up in him, and sheā€™s not sure she wants to pull away from all of that, much less if she even could.Ā
Dan tells her about Milo, about loss, about the shadow his father cast and how hiding in it was safe so he didnā€™t try to break out of it, but now heā€™s out. He talks about loving his parents but resenting them for not staying in love, and resents himself for falling out of love in the past.Ā
ā€œWhat did you do about it?ā€ she asks him.Ā
He waggles his eyebrows at her, and reaches behind him to grab his guitar.Ā
Itā€™s unfair, she knows itā€™s unfair. Blair comes to rely on Dan too much, to center her, to hold her, to love her even when itā€™s not his place. But she keeps going to him, and heā€™s always there, arms open.Ā
Heā€™s writing about her. She knows before he even tells her. She can sense it sometimes, when heā€™s looking at her, and she just knows he has lyrics running in his head.Ā
But itā€™s unfair. Heā€™s bicoastal, going to and from LA for gigs and appearances. When heā€™s gone, Blair does her own, always beginning and ending with paparazzi shots of her on Chuckā€™s arm, smiling like sheā€™s still in love with him. Her heart belongs to someone else now, but sheā€™s afraid sheā€™s in too deep to break away.Ā
In the meantime, Dan, Jenny, and Vanessa come back to their roots: each other, and decide to do a project together, write an EP (boygenius. Itā€™s boygenius). They have a fair mix of songs, and all of Danā€™s lyrics are fed by his relationship to BLair, that heā€™s told no one about, but it bleeds out of everything he writes. Theyā€™re approaching an impasse, he can feel it, but selfishly, he wants to avoid it as long as possible, to keep her as long as possible.Ā
In addition to his EP with Jenny and Vanessa, Dan has a deal for a next record, and a handful of songs to put on it already. When heā€™s in LA, heā€™s working on his own music, and when heā€™s in New York, heā€™s either working with Jen and Vanessa, or heā€™s with Blair.Ā
But it canā€™t last. Blair is feeling the pressure from Bass Records, and if she were to get caught in an affair, or separate from Chuck, Chuck would hold her catalog hostage. Her entire lifeā€™s work wouldnā€™t be hers anymore. And maybe Danā€™s right when he says that she canā€™t stay with her husband, but sheā€™s right when she says she canā€™t leave him either.Ā
She canā€™t even record new music for the label either, because everything new sheā€™s written is covered in Dan. She even wrote a song about that. She is covered in him.Ā
But Dan has his own wounds, and they make him push, and push, and self sabotage, and after one gruesome, draining fight, Blair calls it off.Ā
In the meantime, Jenny and Vanessa are doing work of their own, on their music and on themselves.Ā
Vanessa plays her solos up and down the east coast, through the Midwest, and back in New York. Through Rufus, she meets Aaron Rose, a jack-of-all-trades of sorts. Like Rufus, he was a musician first, but mostly works now as a producer. They hit it off, and after working on a thing or two, they start dating, but only casually. After several years and multiple musical acts, Aaronā€™s star as a producer is rising, and heā€™s working with bigger and bigger names.Ā
Jenny is still healing from all her garbage (Agnes, Damien, etc.), and the music helps, and the project with Dan and Vanessa does tooā€”itā€™s an excuse to reconnect with each other, and she becomes close to two of her favorite people again. It helps. As does the therapy, and all the other things she does.Ā
One such thing, recommended by her therapist and her parents, is to do creative things that are outside of her purview as a musician. Sheā€™s always sort of been into fashion, so she gets into sewing, into designing her own looks. And when thatā€™s not active enough, she puts in time at the dance studio in Brooklyn where her mom used to teach, where she took classes once upon a time.Ā
She isnā€™t interested in lessons, or classes with other people, but the owners still know her, and love Alison, so theyā€™ll give her solo studio time when she asks for it, and one afternoon, one of their new staff walks into the wrong studio.Ā
Jenny kind of bites his head off, but he kind of likes that. He says his name is Nate, heā€™s the new hire to take over the beginner classes. And ā€” heā€™s hot, obviously, but Jenny is on permanent hiatus in that department. Not that that stops her from looking.Ā
But after that first meeting, Nate is just always around, and Jenny doesnā€™t really want to deal with all the shit that having him around kicks up within her, but she likes hanging out with him, so she tells him ā€“ firmly ā€“ that she only wants to be friends, and he respects that. What a thing, to have a guy respect her boundaries.Ā
She keeps putting it all in her music, Turn Out the Lights doesnā€™t make the same splash as Badlands, apparently people care less the more distance she puts between herself and Damien, but Jen decides sheā€™s okay with that.Ā
Reeling from another heartbreak that Dan canā€™t really talk about, he puts it into his music, in the EP with Jen and V and in his new album. His sophomore solo album, Punisher, comes out to a great reception. Well, great within the small circle of people who actually know who he is.Ā
The gigs that began with his debut keep rolling in, late night shows, radio appearances, festivals, and now mixed in with those are engagements for his act with Jen and Vanessa. To his surprise, people are interested in that music because of him. He doesnā€™t know how to feel about that. If you ask him, Jenny and Vanessa are way better at what they do than he is.Ā
Danā€™s public profile grows bigger and bigger, but Blair canā€™t be happy for him, because it makes him increasingly unavoidable. She refuses to listen to the new music he releases, sheā€™s afraid itā€™s too cruel towards her, or worse, itā€™s too kind.Ā
But, just like their accidental first meeting, she stumbles across a single he put out after the new album. Typical Humphrey. A goddamn overachiever, kept on writing even after the album was done. She didnā€™t mean to see it, but she was scrolling through All Songs Considered, and there he was, talking about Audrey Hepburn, of all things.Ā
Thereā€™s this line in the movie Sabrina, where she says ā€œI have learned to be in the world and of the world, and not just stand aside and watch.ā€ And thatā€™s really what this songā€™s about, about falling in love with a person because theyā€™ve taught you how to live, how to appreciate everything the world has to offer. And thereā€™s ā€“ thereā€™s a tremendous amount of joy in that, but thereā€™s also fear, because gaining that now means that itā€™s possible to lose it too. So ā€“ I guess this is sort of trying to reconcile those ideas within a song.Ā
Blair listens to ā€œSidelines,ā€ and it makes her so angry that she scribbles off a song idea of her own, because he still doesnā€™t get it. He meant her while she was in the middle of running away, so why wonā€™t he just let her run?
She worries fleetingly about getting caught, because Audrey is her thing, and Dan knows that, but Audrey is a ubiquitous enough icon that no one but she would ever make the connection. Heā€™s good at that, Dan is, of coding a message to her that only she could understand. Itā€™s the same skill that makes him such a good writer.Ā
Blair writes songs because she canā€™t help it, but she wonā€™t record them. A new album would mean adding to Chuckā€™s empire, and the thought of Chuck owning these songs too, the only things of Dan sheā€™s allowed herself to keepā€¦she canā€™t stomach the thought of it.Ā
Sheā€™s stayed with him to protect her work, but now her work is dead on arrival because of him, and thatā€™s really what drives her decision to divorce Chuck.Ā
She has to do it carefully, of course. She sets up a place of her own to go to in New York, moves in all the things that mean the most to her. Puts her notebooks in a safety deposit boxā€”just to be sure. And, finally, she reaches out to her mother, to get a recommendation for a divorce attorney familiar with entertainment law.Ā
On a first impression, Cyrus Rose doesnā€™t look like much beyond a short, ebullient, overly cheery middle-aged man, but Blair quickly learns that when heā€™s practicing law, he turns into a bulldog. He fights for her and for her work so fiercely that for a little while, Blair lets herself believe that it will all come out her way.Ā
But thereā€™s all the media coverage, and it paints her out as a bitter, gold-digging, ungrateful woman, villainizing a man who doesnā€™t deserve it. It pisses her off to no end, but Cyrus tells her to hold her silence, and she trusts him, so she does.
In the end, Cyrus is able to get her out of her marriage and most of her contract with Bass Records. Sheā€™s not destitute, she still has her family money, and a comfortable settlement, but Cyrus is ultimately unable to save her music. Bass will still own her masters, and the residuals from those masters. Itā€™s that that breaks her heart the mostā€”more than how quickly Chuck turned the media cycle against her, more than how many people followed his lead, more than the evidence Cyrus discovered of his multiple affairs, of his mismanagement of the companyā€”but that her work cannot belong to her, that hurts the most.Ā
But, bulldog that he is, Cyrus digs out a loophole. Since going solo, Blair has been the prime writer of all her songs, which gives her the legal right to rerecord her masters. So while she canā€™t stop Chuck from doing whatever he wants with her old work, anything she makes now can be entirely within her control.Ā
She just has to find someone willing to work with her. And who she trusts enough to work with.Ā
Worn out, Blair retreats from the public eye, itā€™s lonely, but thankfully, not too lonely.Ā
The divorce process set Blair to looking back at lots of her life, at things and people she wishes she had handled differently. After she privately filed her petition, she reached out to Serena, and, miraculously, Serena answered.Ā
Before anything else is fixed, Blair and Serenaā€™s friendship is fixed. They reconnect, because everything theyā€™ve been through, together and apart, has made them want to focus on what matters, and what matters is each other.Ā
They talk all the shit through, Blairā€™s marriage, Serenaā€™s struggles, their respective creative blocks. They start appearing in public together, and the tabloids gobble that shit UP.
Serena is working on a comeback record of her own, her first since burning out with her grandfatherā€™s label. Itā€™s zany, and bright, but doesnā€™t shy away from the heartache sheā€™s been through. Itā€™s so incredibly her, that Blair canā€™t help but love it. She loves it, no matter that the liner notes give credit to a Dan Humphrey on a few tracks
Free from Bass Records, Blair wants to work on a new album, but sheā€™s unsure of where to begin. Serena offers to introduce her to this producer sheā€™s been dating (out of the public eye for a change), Aaron Rose.Ā
Blair doesnā€™t quite know what to make of Aaron, of his music, of his open relationship with her newly restored best friend, but she looks up his previous acts and thinksā€¦maybe working with him could be the change her sound needs.Ā
Dan is moving inā€”if not the sameā€”adjacent circles to her. Enough so that she canā€™t get him out of her head, canā€™t get over wanting him. She spills the whole thing to Serena, who she knew was also Danā€™s ex, but didnā€™t know that they were still friends. Serena tells her to stay optimistic, Blair says Serena just thinks that because sheā€™s okay sharing a boyfriend.Ā
Her engagements have been sparse, sheā€™s not wanted many, and not many have wanted her, but Austin City Limits is still on her calendar. In the promotional materials, they highlight her on one stage, and Danā€™s band with Jenny and Vanessa on another.Ā
She doesnā€™t intend to seek him out, but fate conspires against her, and they end up thrown into the same green room. Again.Ā
Dan doesnā€™t want to want her anymore. His career has forward movement and even if the music he makes is about her, the people who like it donā€™t know that, nor do they care. They care that itā€™s good. His career is good, heā€™s been dating Netflix Original darling Carter Baizen for months now, happily and uncomplicatedly. (Serena put them in touch, then one dm led to another, and itā€™s nice). Not that Carter doesnā€™t have his own damageā€”no one in LA is without damage, but they can forget about their damage with each other. Itā€™s not love, but itā€™s not not love.Ā
Dan doesnā€™t want to want her anymore, But, oh, he does.Ā
They nearly miss their callsā€”his set, her soundcheckā€”while talking (well, talking, fighting, kissing, then talking some more). But they fulfill their contracts, and just like it started three years ago, they end up backstage after their shows, drinking, and talking, and talking until a harrowed stage manager is begging them to leave.Ā
Dan sets a limit, makes himself go back to Jen and Vanessa, instead of going home with her, but he says heā€™s going straight to New York after this, and asks if sheā€™ll be around.Ā
Blair says yes.Ā
After the divorce, Blair sold off the real estate sheā€™d kept from her marriage. It was all too haunted, too high up, too far from reality. While looking for a new place, Epperly showed her a listing for a remodeled carriage house in the West Village; Blair would have bought it sight unseen if anyone but Epperly had been there.Ā
Back in New York, Dan invites her to a secret acoustic show heā€™s playing near NYU. She goes, of course, and this time, when she asks him to come home with her, he says yes.Ā
It takes time. For them to trust each other, and reconnect. But they do, and Blair feels like her life is finally making sense.Ā
She and Dan take one day, one step at a time, in secret, for both their sakes, and meanwhile, she, Epperly, Cyrus, and Aaron negotiate a new contract with Rose Records.
Her best-friendship, record deal, and love life all fall into place, and then Blair is writing like never before.
Aaron isā€¦.unconventional, and doesnā€™t let her push him around, which she finds infuriating, not for least of which is the direction he wants to take this album. She fights it at first, but if she really does want to make a departure from the pop princess songs she was generating, maybe following down his path is not the worst idea. And if she hates it, then she can just walk.Ā
Itā€™s still pop, but itā€™s bigger, less bubbly and moreā€¦.glittering. Itā€™sā€¦.darker isnā€™t exactly the right word, but like sheā€™s not trying to be the Good Girl anymore. Itā€™s just crafting a record thatā€™s hers, one song at a time.Ā
She offers Dan the option to co-write, more than once, but he turns her down. Not because he doesnā€™t care, but because this is the first time the music sheā€™s making entirely belongs to her, and he doesnā€™t want to get in the way of that.Ā
ā€œChurch and state,ā€ he says one late night in her cozy house on Cornelia Street.Ā
ā€œAnd which oneā€™s this?ā€Ā
ā€œChurch,ā€ he answers immediately before kissing her. ā€œObviously.ā€
Speaking of church and state, and despite their expectations, theyā€™re able to keep them out of the public eye. Blairā€™s friends know, and Danā€™s family knows, but no one else does. By some miracle, they keep out of the tabloids. Blair keeps working on her album, Dan keeps working with his sister and best friend. They go out into the world and make music and go home to each other at the end of the night.Ā
Blair and Aaron Rose make a surprisingly good time. They finish the album fast, and nine months after Blairā€™s divorce from Chuck and Bass Records, reputation drops.Ā
She has a whole slew of promotions to do for the release, but that midnight, she and Dan open a bottle of wine and listen to the whole thing start to finish. (ā€œChurch and State, honey, Iā€™ll listen when itā€™s done,ā€ heā€™d said). Heā€™s a fan.Ā
She and Aaron were both intent on it not being a ā€œdivorce record,ā€ but it is about her, exploring who she is as a person and an artist after her carefully constructed life fell apart, and about the love and truth she found in the wreckage. It's not a divorce record; she never point blank references Chuck, or their marriage, but the argument could be made that thereā€™s a rebuke against him in every track. Even in the love songs she wrote about Dan, her writing of him is an antithesis of who Chuck was as a partner. The most pointed tracks are even able to claim plausible deniability. There are some people on the internet, though, who criticize the single ā€œLook What You Made Me Do,ā€ as a phrase habitually used by abusers, to which Blair says (in private, of course): ā€œYeah, that was the whole fucking point.ā€
The album doesnā€™t out perform her Bass releases immediately, but no one denies that the Queen B is back, she charms on late night shows, radio spots, and a months-long tour kicks off with high sales. Thereā€™s another legal fight about her having to pay for the right to perform her own songs on the tour, and as infuriating as that is, Blair is restored at having herself as an artist back.Ā
Of course, to the public, the addressee in many of the songs is a mystery. Who is ā€œGorgeousā€ about? Or ā€œDressā€? Or ā€œCall It What You Wantā€? Many a pop culture think-piece is written on the topic, but no one guesses right. The most popular theory though, since they appear in public so often nowadays, is that Blair is dating Serena. It turns out to be a pretty good cover for keeping their real relationships private, so they play it up.Ā
(sidebar: in the effort to hold of the Divorce Record allegations, Aaron had her tweak the bridge in Gorgeous, the original lines she demoā€™ed for him were: you make me so happy it turns back to sad / thereā€™s nothing I hate more than what I canā€™t have / guess Iā€™ll just stumble on back to my man / unless you want to take me home)
(Itā€™s actually a testament to the loyalty and restraint of the people around them, because Blair and Dan are shit at being subtle while theyā€™re together. )
Speaking of the people around them, itā€™s a bit hilarious how their lives all intertwine and overlap. Thereā€™s Danā€™s sister, whoā€™s hated Blairā€™s ex-husband for years, and whoā€™s now decidedly not dating Blairā€™s ex-boyfriend. (ā€œJust friends,ā€ she and Nate insist to anyone who even comes close to asking, but Blair thinks they doth protest too much). And thereā€™s Blair's best friend who was her former nemesis and Danā€™s ex but is now dating Blairā€™s colleague and producer. Speaking of her colleague and producer, Aaronā€”who just so happens to be her lawyerā€™s sonā€”heā€™s also in a poly-relationship with Danā€™s best friend and bandmate, Vanessa Abrams. Vanessa who, on more than one occasion, Blair has caught giving Serena the eye, and vice versa.
They are all kind of a mess, but Blair finds she loves it that way. Her supposedly pristine life had been fake anyway. She much prefers this.Ā
She and Dan keep their relationship a secret through her stadium tour and into awards season, when they decide to finally come out of the shadows.Ā
ā€œIā€™ve never really come out before,ā€ Dan jokes, ā€œeverybody just already kinda knew.ā€
They pick the American Music Awards as the event. Blair gives him one last out in the limo ride over, but he doesnā€™t want to take it. Heā€™s not ignorant of the public attention and pressure she lives with, but he loves her more than heā€™s afraid of that.Ā
He gets out of the car first on his side, then comes around to open her door and help her out onto the red carpet. She kisses him as soon as sheā€™s on her feet, limo door still open, cameras flashing in front of them.Ā
The internet loses its collective mind. Intrigue suddenly sprouts up around this unassuming sad boi indie artist. Streams of Punisher and Strangers in the Alps hit all time highs. Danā€™s been represented by his dad this whole time, but now Rufus jokes, ā€œI think I canā€™t afford you.ā€
To ask him if his life has changed is stupid, of course it has, but his focus doesnā€™t. Danā€™s attention is always only on the music. On the music, and on Blair.Ā
Every year, Vanessa orchestrates a benefit show at one of their old favorite clubs in Brooklyn. Itā€™s usually just Vanessa, Jenny, and Dan, but once sheā€™s earned the trust of Danā€™s sisters, Blair appears too. People go feral for a bootleg when they hear through the grapevine that she covered ā€œA Case of You,ā€ with Dan on the dulcimer.Ā
For two people who love playing music, and love playing music together, they donā€™t do it in public very often. It becomes something that they save for just each other, and only occasionally will they perform together in public. Dan plays on Blairā€™s NPR TIny Desk once, and once for WFUV, they do a cover of ā€œDust to Dust.ā€ itā€™s OBSCENE. sex in the studio amirite
The dark corners of the internet (fangirls) start looking a little too closely at their lyrics, and itā€™s only a matter of time before a fan tweet theorizes that Blair Waldorf had an affair with sad boi indie guy while she was married.
Chuck jumps on the rumor, plays it up in an attempt to smack Blair down after the success of her latest record. He calls her a cheater, a gold-digger, all the accusations he floated during the divorce and more.Ā
In response, Blair releases a single. She wrote it while she and Dan were first together all those years ago, and kept it for her. At the time, she never planned on letting it see the light of day, she wasnā€™t even sure she would share it with Dan. But where she is now, she feels happy and safe in sharing this piece of her soul.Ā
When she drops ā€œivy,ā€ it's a confirmation of the rumors, but unapologetic. Comedians applaud her gall on late night shows. She was accused of having an affair, and she said, yeah I fucked him, and I wrote this ballad about it.Ā
It isnā€™t pristine, or the most graceful thing to admit, but Blair is happy, and she wonā€™t pretend to be sorry for being happy. She releases another album (Loneliest Time), then another (Lover), as does Dan (the more rockabilly Sleepwalkers). And three years after her divorce, they marry in a private ceremony with only their nearest and dearest in attendance. They keep the marriage quiet for six months after the fact. And, in the meantime, Blair sits down with Aaron to strategize re-recording her masters.Ā
She starts with a single from her last record under the Bass umbrella. Sheā€™d written ā€œThis Loveā€ about her and Chuckā€™s on-again, off-again relationship before he finally gave in and married her. On touring, sheā€™d grown increasingly tired of it, sheā€™d hated it for a while there. But her life and heart have come full circle, and now she can sing it with a new perspective.Ā
When ā€œThis Love (Bā€™s Version)ā€ drops, she posts a set of photos on instagram:Ā
The cover of the new single, which is a close up of her face, eyes closed, lips red, another set of lips kissing her cheek
The original photo used for the cover, zoomed out to see Dan kissing Blairā€™s cheek.
Another photo of Blair and Dan in their home at the West Village, forehead to forehead, facing each other.Ā
A candid shot of Blair in the studio, wiping her eyes after tearing up while recording vocals.Ā
Another candid of Blair and Aaron hugging once they wrapped.Ā
Blair writes the caption of the post herself, which reads:
Itā€™s funny how the meanings of songs can change as you change. When I first recorded ā€œThis Love,ā€ I hadnā€™t even met the love of my life yet. I thought my big, magical, cyclical love story was done. Then, when I learned it wasnā€™t that magical at all, I couldnā€™t bring myself to sing the song anymore, its meaning had become tainted, hurtful. But then, after enough time, and with the right person, something amazing happened. I found a new meaning in it, deeper, happier, and it was like my life had finally caught up to what I had written all those years ago. These hands had to let it go free, but ā€œThis Loveā€ has finally come back to me, and now I share it with you. xoxo, B
And CURTAIN

A List of Things To Come
*a long post*
I was on hiatus for about 5 years, but I think it's worth the risk of coming back. These are some thoughts and hot takes I've had since then up to now. My professional life is busy, but when I have the time, I'll share. Anyone interested?
Here's a preview, categorized by fandom:
A Song of Ice and Fire:
For asoiaf canon, Iā€™ll speculate on what Jon and Val could have been, and what they could have had together, if he had not kicked the bucket. Iā€™ll also contrast it with Jon's dreams of a life with her, and why he put the torch to it. :( Because of the root of her dislike of Mel and Shireen, I figure she will not be pleased with un-Jon.
Game of Thrones:
In GoT canon, Jon did not love Dany as much as the script suggested he would. In fact, they both failed to take responsibility for the other person. I haven't seen anyone make a statement like this before. (The PTSD is real.) But fic writers did pick up on this and tried to fix it in canon compliant stories, with a lot of success.
Supernatural:
In Supernatural s12-s14, Mary should have found her sons to be way more weird, specifically with each other. But given what we see of her in s6, her characterization is consistent. She would have, and did, ignore the red flags for an idea of family.
Iā€™ll share approving thoughts on Sam and Dean's relationship in the final seasons, disapproving thoughts on the final season of Supernatural, and how I speculated it would either go Gencest or Destiel. We know what happened. No one walked away happy and I think the fandom was all the better for it.
Destiel is not canon. It only became a one-sided love confession. (I know there's a lot of speculation on what happened b/w the studio, the writer's room and the post-production team. Idc. Not gonna touch it.) Thoughts on how I think SPN could have made Destiel go 100% canon involve tweaking the execution and balancing out the themes of Sam and Eileen's love story, the big bad plot, and Dean and Cas's 'love' story.
Outlander:
Outlander (show-only) thoughts, foremost on Roger Mackenzie. He has vexed me from the first time he appeared on screen. I love him dearly, but he vexes me, for how he consistently affects the plot and how that defines his role among the main cast. Later on, I'll run through my favorite moments, episodes and narrative arcs.
Miscellaneous:
I'll share a list of favorite ship-centric fics I've collected over many, many, many years. (Gotta be over 10 years' worth). Along with blurbs that explain my recommendation in a non-spoilery way. Fandoms include: Harry Potter, LOTR, Supernatural, The Walking Dead, ASOIAF, Game of Thrones, Star Wars (Sequel Trilogy), The Flash, Shadowhunters [look away book fans <3], Hannibal (show-only).
I'll also post drafts of fics I never got right and never finished. Mostly GoT-canon divergent Jon/Dany fics.
Most importantly, some very dear friends have encouraged me to vent and hype up my Jonerys fic series "We Could Live Together" as I write it. It's GoT-canon divergent, but I alter some of what occurred before 6x09. Then the story re-enters book territory and moves toward ADOS conclusions. I'd also love to break down and discuss songs from the playlists when it strikes me.
This is the summary of Part 1, "A Long Way Home" (published):
After the Battle for Winterfell, Jon was captured by Bolton men then later found by Daenerys not far from Dragonstone. Their meeting blossoms into the most honest love--until Jon suddenly leaves for Winterfell, only to return to Dragonstone months later with more terrifying tales of dead men and Winter storms. When Daenerys chooses to send her armies north to fight the dead, all is certain but the matter of their bond. After the pain they'd endured, can they come together again? Or will separation be too powerful to overcome? *or* A romantic tale of choice and second chances.
This is the summary of Part 2, "Awake For Ever In Sweet Unrest" (in-progress and unpublished):
Winter has come and further fractured the realm. Yet Jon and Daenerys's betrothal and alliance is well known throughout the Seven Kingdoms. The secret that threatened to break them has made their love stronger, casting a fragrance of hope that draws to the last Targaryens all who seek refuge from political turmoil. Cersei Lannister has fled King's Landing in favor of establishing a bank in Lannisport, to guard against her deposition by the Iron Bank. Euron Greyjoy has set up a naval blockade at Oldtown, yet manages to beguile the Hightowers. And Walder Frey's sundown years threaten to pull his House into a civil war. From the Wall, Jon and Daenerys begin to wage war on the Others. Yet the age of wonder and terror, of gods and heroes, leads them and their enemies in the least expected ways. It begs the question: does all happen the way it must? *or* A romantic telling of the new War for the Dawn.
This is what I've been doing the past few years: working, (dating lol), re-reading the books and joining theory discussions on other sites. What touched my heart was readers asking for me to continue the fic series. Even as I considered it, I was conflicted. Since the show and book canon are so enmeshed, I think we were really vulnerable to being whipped and scored by D&D. But we all found ways to lick our wounds. I'm grateful we were able to become closer and stronger. I'm glad to be a part of it.
So that's my preview. If you've read this far, thank you. <3
There's more to come.
