noticed something cute with the music
when Janai dismounts at the spot where she's planning to propose, the music shifts to something soft and feelsy
Tumblr media
and it has a vibe to it that made me go back and listen to the music in Rayla's ritual pool flashback
the song that plays there is Rayla's theme song, but there's a nice long leadup for Ruthari that uses what sounds like a cello maybe, something stringed anyway, and it plays these long, soft, contemplative notes that set the scene as being full of soft feelings
Tumblr media
this scene with Janai and Amaya has the same kind of slow gentle notes, and gives us a similar but not identical tune (aka not Rayla's), but it's played on a brass instrument
the way both couples get similar feelsy tunes feels important, as well as the fact that they each get them played on different instruments for their different respective vibes
HMMM and both times the scene sequence had a kiss, is this like. kiss music. I guess I'll have to listen real hard in future episodes and see!
the music on this show, amirite 😍

hey guys i noticed something a few weeks ago and i just feel the need to share it bc as a music nerd, it HITS 😭
so everybody knows the melody that plays during the rayllum moment in s3 on the big antler, (yk “because shes rayla”) and most people see it as “rayllum’s theme” and while it kinda is?? it also isnt 🧐
technically, its only rayla’s theme. i mean, theres a reason why you hear the full thing during “silvergrove” because its hers!!
in season 1, you can hear it when rayla let Marcos live in ep 1, and you can briefly hear it when she goes sit down on that cliff to try to cut her ribbon off. (theres more but its what i remember)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
AND callum has his own theme too!! you can hear it when he hugs harrow for the last time in s1, and of course when he saves rayla from falling in s3 (again, theres probably more but those are the ones i remember)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
sometimes both melodies play when either rayla or callum does something that impacts their character, like rayla letting marcos go, or callum getting his wings. its a melody that resembles them truly for what they are
in “because shes rayla”, it’s rayla’s theme playing because callum is describing rayla on who she is, on why she saved nyx despite the fact she betrayed them and stole zym, and its because shes rayla
and season 3 isnt the last you hear of both themes
in ep 1 of s4, when callum is outside the balcony, HIS theme is playing, but when he looks up to the moon thinking of rayla, it switches and its HER theme that plays!! very sadly and minor i might add (and that whole scene is what made me notice in the first place…. and cry too 😢)
plus you can also hear her theme play when she comes back!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
basically what im trying to get at here, is that frederik is a muscial genius who isnt appreciated enough of his hard work 🫡
honestly one of my speculations for s6 is that when (or if 😰) rayllum reconciled fully ( as in back to their canon ways ) we get to hear a mix of both melodies playing as a musical way of saying that they really are, stronger together 🤗 and i really hope that happens because both of their songs are SO beautiful and impactful and it what makes this show so so magical 🥹

been rewatching tdp seasons 4 to 5, I'm currently at s4 ep2 and there are 2 things I figured I should put down for myself:
just so you know, in any media the first thing I pay attention to is music. Like, half the reason I enjoy Star Rail is because of music. The same thing goes for the Dragon Prince. When I rewatch s1 to 3, every time I'm almost melting because of how beautiful the melodies are. They are generally both sad (the Last Sunset my beloved) and full of hope (the main theme), but they can also be ominous and insidious (hi Aaravos' theme) and also loving and tender (Because She's Rayla). But when I first watched s4 and then s5, I didn't notice music at all. Like, at most I made a mental note about two (2) melodies in s4 ep1. The rest went unnoticed :/ Which admittedly is uncharacteristic of tdp. But... Now that I'm watching s4 again, I'm so relieved to finally hear the beautiful music I had been expecting from tdp. It's there and it's been there this whole time. It's really the Mystery of Aara- Music haha.
what caused me to make this post is s4 ep2. A couple of minutes before Rayla's return we see Callum is done with the translation of the runes and he now has the full text of the riddle. "In Darkness, gaze upon the Fallen Star". Then we hear Aaravos' theme start playing (woahhh), the Star rune on the cube lights up and Callum walks around with the book. It's honestly terrifying to think that- it would have taken him only a tiny bit of time to figure out the meaning behind the riddle text (that he needs to put out all the light). And if he gave it a shot (which he would) and put out the candle and pulled the curtains (the moonlight was there), he would have met Aaravos. *curtain call* Oh god. And then the story would have gone an entirely different route. That is, if Rayla came just a tiny bit too late (god, I need a fic based on this au). But she comes just at the right time to mess things up and save Callum from the dangerous path and it's then that we hear Rayla's theme start playing (Silvergrove OST / Because She's Rayla). I love how the two melodies are interwoven. The ominous Aaravos' melody slowly gives way to the hopeful Rayla's tune. Perilous darkness gives way to the bright moonlight. And that is just so freaking beautiful.
P.S. I sometimes see in the fandom the thing about Callum having two paths before him. The one is Rayla (moonlight & love) and the other is Aaravos (darkness & also love?.. we don't know his pre-story but I think it all comes down to the same thing. to love). So what I want to say is- the music confirms it.
