Headcanon that Lissa, Viren’s Exwife and mother of Soren and Claudia is royalty.

There are only few things we know about Lissa. She was married to Viren. She is Soren’s and Claudia’s mother. She left Viren because he used a morally questionable dark magic spell to save Soren’s life. She originates from Del Bar. She moved back to her family after the divorce.

Of the few things we know I always was curious about the fact that one of the things we learned is, that she isn’t from Katolis. Because it seemes to be not really important. It seems to add not much to the narrative. Except it might actually be important?

We don’t know what Lissa looks like, but there are many people, myself included, thinking she might look similar to Soren (or to be more precice, that he takes after his mother). Claudia and Viren both have dark hair, while Soren is blond. People thought he might just dye his hair, but it’s confirmed in the short story “Rise Again” that his hair was already blond when he was a child (and I doubt Viren and/or Lissa would let a child around the age of 10 bleach his hair).

So, with that thought in mind: Soren takes after his mother Lissa, has blond hair, blue eyes, and her mother is from Del Bar. I had to think about the only other person we know from Del Bar. King Florian. And well...

Not gonna say they have almost the same hair and eye colour as well as similar facial structures when it comes to cheek bones, but... Of course they are not identical, Soren also has a lot of things he got from Viren, like the eyebrows, but I still think it’s interesting. He could very well be Lissa’s brother for example, which would make him Soren’s and Claudia’s uncle.

One would now wonder, why would Lissa leave Del Bar if she was it’s princess. According to Tales of Xadia, the next in line is not necessarily determined by blood, but by a Gladiatorial Moot. People interested in the throne will engange in combat. Which means, being the Kings brother, or the daughter of the former King (who knows), does not necessarily make her have the responsibilties of a princess, so she would be free to just leave if she so desires. But what is also interesting, that she returned to her family in Del Bar after the devorce. Which means she was there when King Florian was assassinated by Viren’s dust moonshadow elves, which makes me wonder how she feels about Xadia and Elves and what her role could be if she is to appear in future seasons (if she will even appear, which I desperatly hope, because I’d love to know more about her relationship to Viren, Claudia and Soren)

Lissa as Del Bar queen

So I'm half joking right now I don't think it's going to happen at all but it just crossed my mind that it would be funny if Lissa decide to become the new queen of Del Bar. Lissa is Claudia and Soren's mother and she and viren split up she moved back to Del Bar. Now in Del Bar the new ruler is chosen from the winner of their traditional gladiatorial moot. Everyone who want to fight for the throne is welcome, meaning that if Lissa wants she can try as well. Soren got his muscles from someone and that is not from Viren so it could be from her. She could be a strong warrior. I just thought it could be hilarious if Claudia and Soren will meet her as a queen, especially when her ex-husband is the one who responsible for the assassination of the former king.

I don't think it's going to happen but it could be a great twist.

Florian is King of Del Bar, a kingdom located in the freezing valleys of the western mountains. Known for foraging and smithing, Del Bar's people relish in a life close to nature. Del Bar’s signature colors are green and brown and its symbol is a serpent.

I don’t know if anyone has brought this up, but when I was editing clips for my Queen Fareeda gifs, I noticed something.

When Viren is doing his magical projections as he discusses the war in Xadia with the other four kingdoms, only two of the royals are attacked by the dark magic projections.

King Florian gets a slit throat signal by the projection of the Moonshadow elf I believe is Skor (I always get confused which is Callisto and which is Skor)

Queen Fareeda gets attacked by the projection of a dragon that I believe is the beautiful Pyrrah.

These two were the only ones that got attacked by the projections and then they turn out to be the only royals to be truly dead. Maybe it’s just a coincidence.... maybe not

Cool TDP Headcanons

- Xadia is divided into 6 regions based on their primal source.

- Viren’s Wife is a healer mage who serves King Florian’s court in Del Bar. She was also close with Sarai, Amaya, and Opeli.

Viren’s wife name is Panacea, meaning “cure all”. To subvert Viren’s name meaning ‘virus’

- Aside from her Diplomatic Persuasions, Queen Aanya is also training in equitation and Swordsmanship.

- King Harrow’s Ancestor the Orphan Queen also had the ability to communicate to the Fauna of Xadia.

- Dragons can shapeshift into a human form, to communicate to their respective elves.  Elves can also shapeshift vice-versa.

- Sarai’s first Husband, was also close with Harrow and Viren before his passing.

Character Surnames:

Callum Lugh- Lugh is a Celtic God associated with the arts, craftsmanship, and a member of the Tuatha Dé Danann.

Ezran Melampus- Melampus was a healer in Greek Mythology who was able to communicate with animals.

Rayla Artemyr- It’s a cool portmanteau of Artemis, Goddes of the Hunt and Moon, and Myrrh, a thorny tree used for incense.

Soren Virenson - Translates to “Son of Viren”

Claudia Hekatael - Inspired from Hekate, Greek Goddess of Magic.

Ellis Kamui- Kamui are the Japanese deities of the Hokkaido region, I thought it would fit since she lives near a snowy Caldera. 

Aanya Kamal- Kamal is hindi for ‘Lotus’, hinting how Duren has it’s abundant harvest

the animation was soooo much better. the artists and designers never dissapoint.

i loved a lot of things but i want to point out how AMAZINGLY they represented a war. with soldiers who are real people, with real families and real lives. how either side has good and bad (especially the humans which are kinda corrupted).

this show just gets better and better.

(no hate for tdp, i really love the show) tdp also follows the dead mom trope, with sarai and the queens. and honestly, it’s a trope almost every show has, you mentioned shera (with what i assume is angella), atla (katara and sokka and zuko’s mom), and even kipo (SPOILERS!!!!) altho while her mom is absent through most of her life, she comes back but... not quite. back. you know. but yeah, every show has Good and Not That Good representation, i totally agree with ur last post

one thing that i take into account when looking at a series are the tropes they use, yes, but also what context within the series that the tropes are existing. shera has five parental characters shown: angella (who dies), shadow weaver (who’s abusive and dies), bow’s dads (who live), and micah (who was thought to be dead but is revealed to be alive near the end of season four). so by the end of the series, no mothers are alive, and three fathers are alive. angella & shadow weaver are also the only characters who flat out die beyond horde prime as the end game big bad

for example, of the characters that tdp kill, 90% are royalty as follows:

queen fahreeda (white)

king harrow

king florian (white)

king avizandum (non white, non human)

prince kasef 

royals that are alive: queen aanya (mixed), king ezran (mixed), queen zubeia (a living mother), king ahling (king of colour), queen janai (queen of colour), and prince callum (mixed), and probably amaya by marriage. there is also claudia & soren’s who is never demonized by the show.

so of the show’s parental characters, three fathers are alive (ethari, viren, and king ahling) out of eight (those three + runaan, harrow, avizandum, lain, and callum’s father - all of whom are presumed or are actually dead) and two mothers out of five. getting zym back to his mother is the core conflict of the show. when runaan, lain, and tiadrin are released from the coins, they will also be present. 

the difference between mothers in tdp versus in atla is also huge. like, in atla we never get ursa’s name or kya’s until her flashback episode. in contrast, sarai is introduced through her connection to her sister first and foremost and we know her personal philosophies, personality, sense of humour, family relations, skills as a warrior, that she had a sweet tooth, was previously married and moved on, etc. 

alternatively, harrow is a father yes, but we really only see him actively be one not in a flashback for like... maybe three episodes? he doesn’t interact with his children again after 1x02. the most present father figure with the most plot relevance is viren. 

so within the context of tdp’s world, where royalty tends to drop like flies and there are a lot of women and girls of colour being kick ass characters, i’m not too concerned.
