The only way I can accept the bullshit they pulled with her in this game is if she's manipulating Solas into maintaining the Veil for now because she has something else up her sleeve and the Veil needs to stay up for that to happen. It would be more in keeping with her character since she has basically been using Solas like a tool since the moment she met him as a spirit in the Fade. She has a propensity for using men, as you pointed out, and he also stole her power and tried to destroy a part of her (as well as rebelling against her and pissing her off in a number of ways we probably don't even know about). Tinfoil hat time here but what if Solas was someone she wanted revenge on too? Sending him to the Fade to fix their mistakes would be one way of going about it.

I know it's a long shot and with the way things are going, DA5 will probably titled Dragon Age: Gotham Knights or something and feature Neve battling some Joker knock-off in an even more watered-down Thedas. We won't get to see how Thedas has changed since the Blight, but just the end products of it. No more slavery, the Crows are good guys now, Ferelden somehow rebuilt itself, Mages are happy, the Dales belong to the Elves once more, etc. It'll just be done in a blank period.

But!! If they get their shit together and actually deliver a decent game that isn't horribly derivative of Marvel/DC, I can see Mythal being either a Big Bad or the Big Deus Ex Machina saviour like she has been in the last couple of games. I'm kind of torn if I want that though, because I think they've overused both her and Morrigan somewhat. There can, in fact, be several great women in Thedas's story, but it seems like they're dead set on there being one single woman at the root of all of them. (This is kinda why I hate the Mythal is Andraste theory. Sorry, but no. It can't all be Mythal.)

I think the bottom line is that they were planning on having Mythal be much more of a villain in this game, but it ultimately became Solas-centric instead. She becomes a figurehead for all his motivations, even though, in the end, it boils down to him being unable to accept the weight of his own failures. However, she and Solas were plotting separately for thousands of years, too. She wouldn't have waited around for him to do it for her. Him bringing down the Veil might have disrupted the plans she was making too.

Tbh though I'm being too generous to this studio and they probably just watered her down bc Woman Good Man Bad and don't want to follow through on the story they built up about a morally complex woman. Still, it doesn't hurt to theorise.

Sorry, but I just don’t buy the whole “actually Mythal decided after centuries of wandering Thedas as Flemeth that modern people deserve a chance” thing. Because the fragment of Mythal we’re talking about is the jaded old swamp witch who

-Inhabited the body of a woman betrayed by her lover(s) because they found common ground in their suffering and the injustices done to them. (“Once I was but a woman, crying out in the lonely darkness for justice.” - DAI)

-Resents that betrayal to the point she views men as disposable playthings that she can lure back to her hut, have her way with, and then… murder? I think? (Based on Morrigan’s own account in DAO)

-Abused her daughter under the guise of tough love in an attempt to prepare her for a cruel uncaring world. (Again, Morrigan’s account, DAO)

-Says during her appearance in Inquisition that she will have her reckoning.

-Spent centuries consolidating her power as well as cycling through different human women’s bodies via questionable means for the sake of bringing about said reckoning. (“I have carried Mythal through the ages ever since, seeking the justice denied to her.” and about the Inquisitor: “A Herald indeed. Shouting to the heavens, harbinger of a new age.” - DAI)

-During her scene with Solas at the end of Inquisition does NOT say ANYTHING about disagreeing with Solas’s plans, just that she considers him and old friend and is sorry things are going the way they are. (Seriously, is the dialogue in that regret scene in Veilguard supposed to be from a mental connection they had? Because that dialogue just isn’t in the Inquisition scene.)

And I’m supposed to believe that in her last moments, Flemythal backed off and went “actually I think we need to maintain the status quo”????

None of this paints a picture of someone who has gone soft over time. At least not to the degree that is presented in that regret scene in Veilguard. Sure Flemeth wasn’t all bad, she had some tenderness to her. She shows some genuine care for Morrigan and Kieran (if present) and seems hurt when Morrigan implies she was trying not to be the kind of mother Flemeth was to her.

At the end of Inquisition, we can’t tell for certain to what degree she approves of Solas’s methods. But it seems like a step in said methods was to absorb her power and doom her, an embodiment of Justice, to take a passive role once more. And we know what happens when a spirit is denied its purpose. Justice denied its purpose could turn to Vengeance. Which, to me, feels like it would better echo the themes of Solas’s pride/wisdom duality, inquisition’s themes around what it means to become a god-like force of nature, DA2’s question of whether violence is necessary for revolution (which literally has the Justice/Vengeance duality in it with Anders), and DAO’s theme of sacrifice for the greater good.

i don't post any of the art or writing i create specifically because of this. i've been making art for about 8 ish years, and i've (mostly) stuck with one universe that whole time. i'm really proud of the things i've made, but i will never share any of it because i don't trust people to just be normal about them. spending 6+ hours on a piece knowing it's going straight to my art folder like a cemetery where ideas go when they die feels. really not great i'll admit. i make art for myself because i enjoy doing it, but it's hard to find enjoyment in it when you know nobody will ever look at it again once it's done. nobody will ever get as invested in them as i am or pick up on the details i'm really proud of. i could delete every piece i finish, and nothing would be any different!

anyway. i don't share any of my personal characters or writing because i can't guarantee people won't make it weird, and i'm not sure what i want to do tbh. i absolutely cannot handle the idea of people doing shit like that to my personal characters which is why i only post the occasional fanart i make (often with very long gaps in my posting history when i get stuck on my own characters), but it's also really disheartening when you know your ideas won't ever go anywhere. it's hard to have fun with them anymore.

this is super random, but did you notice that gekkabijin didn't appear at all in coquelic's flashback/vision(??) of the garden in flora unfurl?

this paired with the fact that gekka technically failed the garden admission test but was let in (for whatever reason i gen forgot 😭) ... do you think that coq doesn't see her as a member of the garden? or gekka doesn't see herself as one? or maybe both???

OH!!! This is so interesting actually, I ended up looking into it because I was also confused on Gekka’s Garden status 😭

I think long story short, she is still considered a member of the Garden (to Coq and the others) while Gekka seems to see herself as a member but she doesn't think she's strong enough to be??? Let me try and explain.

Shown here in Gekka's arrest records, we do know she was defeated by Sumire in the test, but she was still allowed to join the Garden. That would make her a member:

Gekka herself still has her personal goal of trying to become the "number one assassin". She doesn't want to be weak, so she's trying to improve herself and train. Despite being accepted as a member, they think she is still not worthy of joining. Gekka was also the one who chose her own name, not the mentor/Coquelic:

Because of what she says here, it seems like she doesn't really view herself as a "true" member? And that's why she keeps training, why her wish is to be stronger and become a worthy member. Despite this though, she's looped in with the other Garden members in Coquelic's interrogation. She's clearly close with them and treated as a member there.

In Glitchwave Nihil, she is the only member to not become a stand in the real world, and she even remarks on this in the messages you get during the event. She's sad that she was the only one left behind 😭 this seems to suggest that at the very least, she sees herself as a member but still thinks she isn't strong enough.

Because of her voice lines and her ECB text, we also know that the mentor looked down on Gekka while she was there. This is one of the major reasons why Gekka continues to train and why she also doesn't think she's strong enough for the Garden:

"So piteously weak that I don't even want to bother killing you."

The mentor's attitude we see here is noteworthy because it's pretty unclear who the mentor is here (something that the sin website also takes note of). This could be the previous mentor, or it could be Coquelic. I am heavily leaning towards this person being Coquelic, only because that harshness (which often masks the concern she has for her flowers) as a mentor is a trait she's shown to have before in Sumire's interrogation and in general (idk if you've played through Sumire's interro but basically Coq is very harsh there with her because she doesn't want the Chief to betray Sumire and have her get hurt). I don't think it's that farfetched to say this was Coquelic trying to protect Gekka because she wasn't ready to be a full on member yet.

In short, I think Gekka ultimately sees herself as a member, but she is still in the whole "I need to be stronger" mindset so that's probably she seems a bit more distant than the others.

What about Coquelic though?

I also think Coquelic and the others see her as a member, despite her lack of a presence in Flora Unfurl. A lot of this is evident in Coquelic's interrogation, where she is treated as one of them.

Coquelic mentions her along with Sumire, the other Garden member at the bureau at the time when she is trying to get captured by the MBCC:

And she is included with them again when Coq talks about each of her flowers and their wishes. The one for her and Gekka is interesting because it seems to suggest that Coq was the mentor who looked down upon Gekka before (although it could still be the previous mentor who did this tbh. That part is unlcear, but I think it would make sense given Coq's tough love attitude and their relationship)

I'm not exactly sure why Gekka isn't really shown in Coq's vision (assuming you mean this image) but it could just be because she wasn't involved in the Rain Burst/Flora Unfurl story line, so that's why she's not present in this 😭 (kinda sucks that she's being left out yeah but I'm glad they still have her in the interro)

We know that despite not being shown there, she is still included here in Coquelic's interrogation, which definitely suggests to me that she is a member of the Garden to Coquelic and the others.

Also it’s funny that you mention that scene from Flora Unfurl because I also wondered why Gekka wasn’t shown there when I first went through the event fkdjndfj what's even more funny is that in Coquelic’s interro, another similar scene shows up except Thistle is the one not included this time LMAO:

But I think the reason why Thistle isn't here (and also why she doesn’t show up in Coq’s interro like the others and only in a flashback) is probably because they didn’t want to show her new design yet 💀 since Thistle's interrogation takes place before Coq wakes up (and she's in her new outfit there), it's not like they could've shown her here lmao since she released as a playable character after Chapter 13, and Coquelic's interro released way before then (despite the story itself taking place after Chapter 13).

Still mentioned tho!!! Also iirc in Thistle's interro, Coq only began to wake up when all the members of the Garden were present there, another nod to Gekka being considered a member to her!

Leading the special with an explicitly Jewish character observing a Jewish holiday is great, but the notion of saving the world by becoming president of the USA is a dubious one. The USA is an imperialist entity built on deep seated systemic inequality and worse. Even the most progressive of presidents is beholden to that. It doesn't mean we shouldn't try, but Kitty is kidding herself about 'saving the world the right way.'

This story with Magneto coming around on the pointlessness of lighting menorahs does the rounds every now and then, though not as much as I'd expect. The kids are particularly plucky and eloquent, and the one who emphatically tells Magneto he's wrong is a legend. I'm fond of any story where Magneto rethinks his beliefs, and this is a nice one.

It took me a while to notice that this is written by Charlamagne tha God, possibly because it's kinda funny to imagine Ororo knowing who that is. Idk why, I've just never seen any stories indicating that she's into Hip Hop culture. I like that it's a rejection of turning the other cheek where bigoted assholes are concerned. You can't reach some people, and there's no obligation to exhaust yourself trying. Fuck em. The Michelle Obama mention is a bit on the nose.

Old man Logan is cutting firewood and being gruff, as he does. Kurt gives him a picture of himself, which is a baller move. I was under the impression that this Logan was an alternate reality Logan, and doesn't have a particularly close relationship with these X-Men. Nothing about Logans makes sense, sometimes you just have to accept it as cute and cool.

Bobby Drake has a party! Interestingly neither Jewish nor Christian, but a pagan holiday that's become a bit more popular (like Christmas and Easter.) Hope is watching Cable do... something, in a recorded message from when she was the universe's most unpopular baby.

Some kids are sharing the rumour that Magneto merked Santa, which is hilarious. It's obviously untrue, not least because Santa is Mags' mutant brother. Kurt lectures them.

Jubilee beats up Arcade (yay!) and quotes Home Alone, rescuing Shogo (who's spending this Christmas as a dragon in Otherworld.) I really don't like Arcade, though he has done two excellent things. Torturing Sinister and creating the Proletarian - worker's hero of the Soviet Union.

Nightcrawler and Storm show up and Christmas is really just a backdrop for a light anti-capitalist tale. Cool! I'd expect Cyclops to be in this book, but no. It's Chuck-less as well.

nora, I just watched the first part of becoming youtube and I have so many questions.

who tf is ben? like, was he genuinely just some guy who happened to be friends with some youtubers and randomly decided to make a highly produced docu series on youtube? how did he get all of these youtubers to agree to be in this? why is there a trailer for a 2nd part but it looks like that was never posted? why put all this work into that channel and then just...vanish after like a year?

he's a journalist! more specifically he writes for doctor who magazine and has done a bunch of other doctor who related things because of that, and i'm assuming that's at least partly how he got into the youtube scene seeing as half of british youtube back in the day were major doctor who nerds

as for why becoming youtube 2 was never released, idk if he's ever given an official reason but i do know it cost way more to produce than he ever earned from it, so that's probably one of them. like there's a trailer because he did film a bunch of it but it never got finished. tbh though i would assume the main reasons are 1. several people in the first part got exposed for being horrible people and 2. youtube suddenly got very very big very very quickly. it's a bit difficult to do a documentary series when half your cast is evil and the other half is famous and booked and busy. because it got delayed for so long he also had some other issues like youtubers (*cough* dan *cough*) suddenly being like 'actually i don't agree with anything i said anymore please don't release that', which i'm sure didn't exactly do wonders for his motivation to get it finished

i would say all of those things contributed to part 2 getting delayed and then eventually youtube had just changed way too much and the series, or at least the approach to it, was getting outdated. i very much recommend finishing the episodes that do exist though! it's a great series, even if it's aged somewhat questionably in parts, particularly in regards to some of the youtubers in it. but then again what youtube content by more than five people hasn't...

i recommend watching it all in order but my personal favourite part of the whole thing is the song in episode 10, it's so stupidly well done and has very much been stuck in my head for the past eleven years

Giving one last look at him and at the cabbage in his hands, you begin walking to your house

Suddenly you hear a man clearing his throat and a "Hey, you wanted the cabbage, didn't you? Sorry, I took the last one. Here, I splitted it in half so both you and me could have it."

You turn around and see him extending the part of the vegetable

"And maybe you can be my other half?"

You're surprised to hear these words and blink for a few moments, thinking you misheard him

Saitama stares at you right back with a poker face, so maybe it's a prank after all?

"Are you joking with me right now?"

In return Saitama blinks with surprised eyes and shakes his head, reassuring that he is serious

"Well, how about we learn each other's name first and then see how it goes?" you answer, smiling and taking the half of the cabbage

And that's how you find out Saitama's name and agree to a first date

You begin walking back to your house and can't help but turn around to glance at Saitama

Then you see two figures coming up to him... from the bush

(And there is a big bunch of napa cabbage in the bush?)

You immediately recognize Demon Cyborg and... King?! Or is it someone who looks like him?

Soon you hear men talking

"How did it go, sensei? Did my tactic with cabbage work?"

"Yeah, Saitama bro, tell us. I hope you used phrases from mang- phrases I recommended to you?"

Chuckling, you continue going back home to the sound of Saitama's irritated voice, "Huh? I don't even know what you're talking about! What are you two doing here?"

"Helping you with your love interest, Saitama-sensei!"

"I said I could do it by myself! And I did it!.. Wait, why is there a bunch of cabbage in the bush?"

"I bought all of this for you, master! With only one cabbage being left, the chance you would talk to Y/n were higher than-"

"Wait-wait-wait, how do you know her name?"

"I scanned her face and found a lot of information about her."

"Genos, you can't do that!"

"If it can help you, why not? For example, I noticed that Y/n always buys napa cabbage, so that's why we needed to buy most of them, except for one."

So when he takes the cabbage right from your hands and hears your disappointed hum, he feels like a jerk (just a little bit)

While he is waiting for you to appear, he decides to apologize and give you the half of the cabbage after all

Genos comes back to real life when you stand up, say goodbye to him and go… wherever you have to

He stands there, processing what just happened and deciding that there are some things that matter more than this

Because Genos starts seeking for any opportunities to run into you, to talk to you again, making your conversations longer and longer (and he is successful in this)

Even Saitama notices it and start teasing him about his crush

But sensei doesn't believe his student and points out to young boy's attraction

In all seriousness, Genos listens to Saitama's advice and decides to go for it

The next day after this conversation he spots you feeding the stray cat yet again

"Then it's a good thing I brought some… just in case," suddenly you hear man's voice and immediately recognise it

People hate krs!Cale???

TLDR; People don't hate krs!Cale. Some people think og!Cale fans do (they don't). They hate og!Cale because of it.

I just recently remembered about a reddit post asking about 'why do people hate krs!Cale just because of og!Cale?' and just… wow. I checked and it's deleted now and thank goodness.

It was 10 months ago so you can tell what they said stuck with me. Not in a good inspirational way, as in it was like a parasite that wouldn't leave and kept filling me with rage because of how wrong it was.

To summarize, it was basically saying that "og!Cale fans are hating on krs!Cale just for their own agenda, krs!Cale did nothing wrong, the soul swap was consesual, why does og!Cale even have fans?"

Almost everyone in the replies was like 'I didn't know people liked og!Cale' or 'People hate krs!Cale??' but I noticed one person pointed out that op was a mdzs fan. They were basically saying that op was projecting the stanwars of 'Wei Wuxian vs Jiang Cheng' of the mdzs fandom into tcf. Honestly they were rude, but they had a point.

(For context, mdzs is a popular book. In it's story, the main character that people love, Wei Wuxian, has some conflicts with a character people are divided about, Jiang Cheng. And in the mdzs fandom, WWX stans hate JC, JC stans don't hate WWX but WWX stans feel like they do just because JC stans defend JC. So it's almost always a stanwar there.)

Tbh, I always felt that there were people in the fandom who don't like og!Cale or don't like even mentioning him. Every so often, I'll see someone invalidating his experiences, him as a character, or people's love for him. Like "(character) didn't do anything wrong to ogcale", or "What did ogcale actually do", or "I'm sick and tired of ogcale stans and fics". I ignored it, people are entitled to their opinions no matter how much I disagree or think they're wrong I don't care to confront them.

But that reddit post was what basically confirmed for me/convinced me that some people feel insecure because of og!Cale. They subconsciously think og!cale as a character and people's love for him automatically makes krs!Cale "someone who stole ogcale's identity and isn't actually Cale and doesn't deserve everyone's love for him as Cale". You know, they think that's what og!Cale fans think.

I'm one person so I can't speak for everyone but I don't think anyone actually thinks that about krs!Cale.

I don't wanna invalidate people's experiences in the fandom, especially since I don't have concrete proof of what that reddit post said because it's deleted and i blocked everyone who said stuff like this: "(character) didn't do anything wrong to ogcale", or "What did ogcale actually do", or "I'm sick and tired of ogcale stans and fics". So there will most definitely be people who will question ME about these experiences and say it didn't happen.

But I don't think anyone hates krs!Cale because of og!Cale. If they do, they don't represent the entirety of og!Cale fans and you don't have to hate og!cale as a character because of it.

Krs!Cale and og!Cale isn't a stan war. It never was, it never should be. It's not Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian.

It's not rocket science. Everyone in the replies of that reddit post didn't know people were hating on krs!Cale because people AREN'T hating on krs!Cale.

i'm getting towards the end of the skypeia arc, & i'd like to say just how much i adore the way the female strawhats have been treated.

just... every aspect of how the way their characters have been previously contextualized influences the story-line is treated with a masterful amount of consideration. we're given so many layers to both of them that enrich not only their characters specifically, but the arc, and the one piece world as a whole. without nami & robin having their specific skills, and their specific values, without those being built upon, the story would have come to a halt.

you could not have skypeia without nami & robin being who they are as individuals. not just because they never would've gotten there without nami, but also because the way these women think is itself foundational to the machinations of the arc as a whole.

to be totally upfront, if you think any other strawhats were more central to the skypeia arc than nami & robin were you are full-on fucking lying to yourself.

5 - What's your favorite optional event?

VERY TOUGH ONE TO ANSWER. I'm gonna go right ahead and disqualify twohats bc it's a predictable answer. If I had to choose just one though I think it'd probably be the sus event. It really got my goat on my first playthrough bc I didn't realize you had to do it in ACT 4. If I remember correctly I think sus is the only optional event locked to ACT 4??? Now that I've actually done it though I'm quite fond of it.

Sus event is one that you really have to go out of your way to do. It kind of reminds me of the True Ending in SASASAP but More and I'm sure that's intentional. Like the requirements for sus quest necessitate that you're going to do it, if not the loop before ACT 5, very soon before it. You have to know pretty much everything about Time Craft and Wish Craft already, so whatever you're doing in the loops now is basically taking out any optional stuff before you hit the end. You have to pretty thoroughly remember how the script goes just so you know all the best ways to break it. I feel like if the True Ending route is Loop going through the motions so many times that they can't deal with holding their facade together any longer, the sus route is Siffrin waving a big red flag around for help. There's just no way you're going to stumble into sus without preplanning what to do to rack up your points and make Odile aware of how Wish Craft works.

So I think it's interesting how much Siffrin pushes back against Odile trying to figure him out. It's a pattern of behavior that I am well aware of where you're desperately going "HELP ME" but you're not willing to accept it when it's offered to you.

Siffrin spends an entire loop screwing everything up, to a point that's frankly kind of egregious even by Late Stage Timeloopers standards, and then they can't reckon with the consequences of it. I don't think sus event is as intentional of a cry for help for Siffrin as it is the player, mind you. But I do think it's. Very tragic. Yeah of course "it's too late" in the sense that Siffrin's about to talk to Euphie and the whole journey will end, but moreso it's that by the time that Odile can piece together all the information necessary to figure Siffrin out, Siffrin is just far too deeply entrenched in his self hatred and fear of abandonment to be dug out. I think if Odile could somehow figure it out in, like, early ACT 3, or if Isabeau was just a bit more pushy in getting Siffrin to do a feelings talk, maybe they'd actually be able to reach Siffrin a little. But they're always just a little too late, every single time.

I think the fact that you start really getting a bunch of weird points in ACT 3 gives this event a lot of buildup. For potential dozens of loops you'll see Odile brush against the truth of the situation, and then just barely miss. By the time she figures it out, it's too late. Explodes

why. this is the first instance of mark being designated as the one in charge when a higher-up (fred, in this case) isn't present. but why. they were only trapped in the slipspace fuckeryzone for a few days relative to normal space-time and i don't think anything drastic happens (with these guys) in glasslands? at least according to the wiki it doesn't. why did being integrated into blue team suddenly disrupt team saber's former command structure?

did they plan to kill mark off at the very start of this? was this all a long game to give mark enough of a foothold as an Important Character to make his death have more impact? does troy denning just like him more? how much weight did his personal preferences even play in this? why do the gammas suddenly start bantering when they're in danger and alone with a woman they just met? why do mark and ash seem to switch personalities every other chapter? why is this worse than i remember it being when i first read it a few months ago?
