You always found the saying “For old times sake” somewhat poetic. Perhaps it was the way the words carried such yearning for the love that once was there, or perhaps it was the way those words held so much anguish that the feeling burned through the soul.

The meaning behind those words always fascinated you, and in all honesty, Azul never understood your fascination, he never understood the true depth those words held, he never understood the anguish he would feel uttering those wretched words to you.

He never understood until he had to say those words to you to simply buy more time. To steal your gaze one last time. To hold you in his arms before you left for your world.

Truth be told Azul never expected that he would need to say those words to you, for he always thought he could call you, his.

—FLASHBACK—

“Azul, you and I know damn well I can’t leave my whole fucking life behind for you.” You argued with him, as much as you loved him you can’t give up your life back in your world, after all, it was your entire life.

“What about you Azul?! This is my life! If you think you have a say in whether I go back home or not then you’remistaken. I won’t let you dictate whether or not I stay in this twisted wonderland with you, Azul!” You spat out, your voice laced with hurt and venom.

Azul scoffed “So all that talk of you saying you loved me and that you wouldn’t dare abandon me like the rest was a lie, wasn’t it?”

“Yeah, I suppose it was. Sevens I can’t believe I loved someone like you. Sometimes I yearn that our worlds never collided and that we were simply stars never to align.” You cursed, covering your face with your hands.

Azul froze when you said that, you looked so cold and unforgiving as you uttered those words at him, you didn’t even look sorry as his eyes started to well up with tears. 

“You don’t mean that (Name)—“

“I think it’s time for you to go Azul.”

The day before you left he took his chance for a one last time, he appeared outside your dorm, a shell of what used to be a smug man.

“Care for a dance? For old times' sake?” He utters, his lips tremble in fear of rejection, in fear of not getting his one last time.

In all his life nothing has ever hurt him more than uttering those words to you and seeing the reluctance in your gaze. Seeing the way you’re about to say ‘no’ and shut the door on him. So like the pathetic man he is, he begs, he begs for a one last time.

“Please… I’ll beg if I must please I-, just one last dance (Name) that’s all I ask.”

You sigh, nodding as you give in to his sorrowful request, “For old times sake, Azul.”

He takes your hand and guides you to what used to be your spot, a place hidden along the coast of the Isle of Sages, a place he often took you to watch the sunset.

The hues of oranges started to illuminate the sky as you two swayed to the sounds of the ocean waves.

“…You know… I’m not going to get better without you…” Azul whispered, his voice shaky and teary.

“I know.” You whispered back, holding him softly to at least give him this solace.

“Is there anything I can do to change your mind?” He asks, pleading for a way to make you stay with him.

You shake your head, you’ve made up your mind, you were leaving him… you were going home.

Azul sighs as he looks at you, tears cascading down his face as his lips tremble “I love you (Name)…”

You look at him with pity in your eyes “I loved you too Azul…”

As you look over at the horizon you notice that the sun has almost set “Continue to admire the sunset for me Azul… after all the sunset is beautiful, isn’t it?” You say, pulling away from him, giving him one last apologetic smile. “I’m sorry…” You whisper, letting a single tear fall down your face.

And with that, he finally shatters and falls to his knees as the distance between you both grows farther, his continuous sobs grow more pitiful as he watches you walk away.

The day came when you finally left, and yet as the days after that passed he read your love letters every single night and prayed to the sevens that you’ll come back to him. Yet deep down he knew you were happy back home, your home.

Yet still, even so, his love for you would always be timeless, even if yours wasn’t.

It simply wasn’t meant to be, after all his tale with you was a story of a romance torn apart by fate.

"she's got your energy," you remarked with a smile, glancing at percy. his dark hair, tousled by the wind, and his sea-green eyes were mirrored in your daughter. her curls bounced as she chased after the foam, her excitement palpable.

"yeah," percy replied, his voice filled with pride. "and your curiosity. look at her go. she's like a little explorer."

you watched your daughter with a mix of amusement and nostalgia. the way she fearlessly dove into the waves, her little feet leaving imprints in the wet sand, reminded you so much of percy when the two of you first met. he had the same fearless nature, the same insatiable curiosity about the world around him.

percy watched as his daughter stood on a small sand dune, her eyes scanning the horizon as if searching for something only she could see. "yeah, i see it too," he admitted. "she's got this fire in her. It's amazing."

you smiled, feeling a swell of pride. "that's your influence, percy. but she also has my patience, my ability to think things through. she’s a perfect blend of us both, with her own unique spark."

he wrapped an arm around you, pulling you close. "we make a pretty great team, don’t we?"

you nodded, resting your head on his chest. "we do. and we’re raising an incredible daughter. she's going to do amazing things."

as the two of you watched your daughter build a sandcastle with unwavering determination, you felt a deep sense of contentment. your journey together had been filled with challenges and triumphs, and now, watching your daughter thrive, you knew that every moment had been worth it.

"hey, y/d/n!" percy called out. "come show us your castle!"

you looked up at him, your eyes wide with surprise and amusement. "another castle?" you teased, knowing full well what he meant.

percy laughed, shaking his head. "you know what i mean. another little jackson running around, making sandcastles and chasing waves."

you pretended to ponder the idea, tapping your chin thoughtfully. "hmm, well, y/d/n is pretty amazing... maybe another one wouldn’t be so bad."

percy grinned, leaning down to plant a soft kiss to your lips. "i think we’d make another pretty great team project."

you swatted him lightly on the shoulder, "you did not just call our daughter a project!"

you both laughed as your daughter came running back to the two of you, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. "what’s so funny?"

"nothing, sweetheart," you said, scooping her up into your arms. "just talking about how much we love you."

she giggled, wrapping her arms around your neck. "i love you too, mommy. and you, daddy."

as the three of you made your way back to your beach blanket, the sun setting behind you, you and percy knew that whatever the future held, the both of you would face it together, your hearts forever intertwined by the love of your little family.

"maybe one day," percy murmured to you as you watched your daughter settle down with her favorite blanket, the waves lulling her to sleep.

"maybe," you agreed, squeezing his hand. "but for now, this is perfect."

and with that, the two of you sat together, watching the stars emerge in the night sky, your hearts full of love and gratitude for the life you had built together.
