It's been a while since I posted :(
I already finished 8 weeks of my 11 week internship at the Belgian federal tax administration. My team works on appeals made by companies about VAT.
In the beginning I worked on old files that were already closed so I could practise. But now I'm working on current files and it feels nice being needed.
I'm so tired though. I've postponed my thesis to august because I feel dead when I get back home in the evening.
I really have to start writing my thesis report though. I've been procrastinating on that as well lol. I need to submit that at the end of may but my mentor needs to read it first because of confidentiality so I should probably finish writing it a week before the deadline.
I have started applying for jobs already! I applied for 2 jobs at tax administration where I'm doing my internship and maybe I get offered a contract when I'm finished. We'll see what happens

Understanding Dividend Distribution Tax (DDT): How Its Abolition Revolutionizes the Indian Economy: Budget 2024
Introduction The concept of dividends and the Dividend Distribution Tax (DDT) underwent significant changes in India with the abolition of DDT in the 2020-21 Budget. Dividends are payments made by companies to shareholders from their profits. DDT, introduced in the Finance Act of 1997, was a tax levied on these dividends distributed by domestic companies, irrespective of their income tax…

There are also an increasing number of cases of tax evasion in the cryptocurrency market through various trading methods. Globally, the taxation rate of virtual assets varies from country to country. In the United States, Canada, Japan, and Europe, the taxation method of virtual assets is applied slightly differently. You should make the "You brilliant bitch" line a running gag. Like whenever a character other than MC does or says something smart, there should be an option to say it.
Imagine saying that to Riel or Blade 😭
Blade: "I'm sending our big players away from base so that they're conveniently 'on missions' during the Inquisitors' inspection"
MC: "You brilliant bitch"

Just so you guys know, the net neutrality law is being blocked right now because the fcc wants to reclassify the electronics (that you are required to have for isp services) as class ii consumer products, and the isp corporations are trying to keep them considered class i business products (lowering taxes for isp companies through legal loopholes that currently allow them to pass the tax onto consumers through 'device rentals') but this is rarely mentioned in the few news posts I could find on the topic.
Please I beg you all to get this info out there.
sources I read and could find on the topic

Notes on the World Map: Melini
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm kind of annoyed the complete World Bible doesn't have a version of the World Map with Melini filled in... unless it does and I missed it, but I literally bought it and looked at the relevant pages for this post! Anyway, I think this is the closest we have. I'm looking at this and -- Kahka Brud literally doesn't have a coast anymore. No wonder they're pissed!! Any industry involving the sea, trade, fishing, etc. is basically impossible now - you'd have to get to the coastline on the west side of the continent. That's probably miles!
Speaking of miles... how big is Melini?
This is where I got... really unwell. So first off, let's assume the official Dunmeshi World Map is a Mercator projection. I think the stage cartography in the Dunmeshi universe is at, it's going to be most important that maps are useful for marine navigation. So we can't just drop an approximate scale onto the grid and leave it at that; we have to work out where the equator is.
The way I've done that is via two places that seem like they have a close(ish) real world equivalent - in terms of climate and culture - Utaya and the Island of Wa (Toshiro's home). The Island of Wa is obviously Japan, and I've seen plausible arguments that Utaya is probably a climate/location similar to Nepal.
So, here's the (approximate) location and latitude of those places on a Mercator map of Earth:
Tumblr media
If we arbitarily superimpose the two maps, asssuming they're the same size, we can draw a theoretical equator line that puts the two places at the same latitude, though on a different side of the equator. Putting them on the same side as Earth made the equator really low. I feel like that's ... unlikely, so we're going with this.
Tumblr media
That puts Melini at a rough latitude of .. ~55? which would, using the same scale as the previous map, make two squares (at that latitude) about 600 miles. Very roughly calculating the size as given on the map based on that, that gives a width of (approximately) 250 miles and a length of 400, coming in at a bit less than 100,000 miles² due to the shape. Probably it's between the sizes of the UK and Aotearoa.
That really helps me visualise what Laios is working with here when I think about post-canon. Though I reckon what I've done here is "Just enough research to really annoy an expert". Sorry if you're that expert. I really don't know much about cartography <3 It's like that xkcd comic:
Tumblr media
On distances, as someone who lives in the UK; with a car, you can get almost anywhere in a day if you're prepared to drive until late. But they don't have cars, so getting from one end to the other would take multiple days of travel. It'd take about 7 days to walk the approx "length", 400~ miles (from the top of Scotland to Liverpool) (according to Google Maps) and 2 days cycling, so probably 3-5 days with horses, depending on how you pushed them. That'd vary a bit depending on terrain, of course.

Reuters Exclusive: Trump's transition team aims to kill Biden EV tax credit
Jarrett Renshaw and Chris Kirkham at Reuters:
Nov 14 (Reuters) - President-elect Donald Trump's transition team is planning to kill the $7,500 consumer tax credit for electric-vehicle purchases as part of broader tax-reform legislation, two sources with direct knowledge of the matter told Reuters. Ending the tax credit could have grave implications for an already stalling U.S. EV transition. And yet representatives of Tesla - by far the nation's largest EV seller - have told a Trump-transition committee they support ending the subsidy, said the two sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Big Oil puppet Donald Trump is planning to kill the EV tax credit enacted under the IRA.

I don't remember if I told you guys about my job interview at the beginning of June. So I had a job interview for a position at the tax administration. I really want to do the same job as I did during my internship.
Today I got the result and I passed! The thing with applying for a job at the government is that they make a pool of 210 places and then they make a ranking based on your interview. I don't know yet what my ranking is :(
If you're higher on the ranking then you get the first job offers and the higher the chance you get your preferred office/city and tax. So let's hope I'm very high in the ranking lmao.
In the meantime I'm writing my thesis and I hate it lol.

My blood boils so badly whenever this comes up, why is canceling student debt a bad thing? We should be asking why student debt has no limits and can't be cancelled through bankruptcy like other forms of debt? Why can businesses declare bankruptcy and be fine while this life ruining form of debt be allowed with no restrictions? Biden has his issues but this is not one of them, but of course republicans oppose anything democrats do out of principle as cults can't cooperate with others! The supreme court is stuffed with crooks protecting crooks, it needs major reform or they will be removed by force if necessary!

The U.S. Department of Treasury’s gift to electric-vehicle shoppers (and global automakers) for the new year was to make many more EVs and plug-in hybrids eligible for the federal tax subsidy of up to $7,500 — including vehicles built outside North America — as long as drivers lease them or buy used rather than buy new.
EV credits and [rules] took effect Jan. 1.
One category extends the former credit of up to $7,500 for consumers buying new EVs and PHEVs, but it puts new limits on vehicle price and buyer income and will soon add requirements for the sourcing of EV batteries and materials. Additionally, since August [2022], it has required that the vehicles be assembled in North America.
A second is a new credit of up to $4,000 for buyers of used EVs.
A third is a “commercial” credit for businesses acquiring EVs. It offers up to $7,500 for light-duty vehicles (under 14,000 pounds) and up to $40,000 for heavier vehicles. Significantly, the commercial credit does not have the origin, price or other restrictions of the credit for consumer buyers.
On top of all that, the Department of Treasury guidance released at the end of December allows the less restrictive commercial credit to also apply to vehicles leased by consumers; that means most plug-in and fuel-cell EVs currently on the market can qualify, including those built in Europe or Asia. The credit goes to the leasing company — the vehicle owner — but it can be passed to the consumer in the form of lower lease payments.
The new federal rules do not affect state and local subsidies available for EV buyers [which may be able to get you even more savings].

Love when the US gov says investing in their own country’s healthcare or transportation will make taxes too expensive. Better to invest their workers’ pay in some other country’s weapons stash.
