i’m so happy to announce that njdevils clinched!! LET’S GO, BABY!!

to get us on the scoreboard, we had a goal by the amazing, the talented, the ‘leaves his socks on the bathroom floor’, LIL JIZZY!!! now, i’m not one to brag, but THAT’S THE GUY WHO HOGS MY BLANKETS AND I AM SO PROUD! we also have a picture of him side-eyeing me at the bench and then looking directly at me. that’s the face of love, people!

but before that goal could take place, maraschino cherry got put in timeout. BOO!! but don’t worry guys, he was given a stern talking to during intermission! he told me he’s gonna be a good boy now!

immediately after marinara’s sin bin placement, my favorite dilh was the victim of a giant toddler attack 😡 but rest assured, bradytkachuk was put in the naughty boy box as well! which is what led to my spectacular boyfie’s goal!

not long after that goal, woodchuck had a fight with said giant toddler… he did not win.

then, my bestest friend, brattman scored the third goal of the night! i rewarded him with the biggest and bestest hug i had to offer during 2nd intermission!

following that, dawson’s creek hit ‘em with a one timer that knocked their pads off! he was rewarded with a pat on the head! i, however, did not get a picture of him because he was hiding from my camera… he’s spending too much time with jackson.

in the final period, ham sammich taught the senators how to dougie! LET’S GO! happy for you douglas!

and to close the game, we had an empty net goal by my father that is not my father; TATAR SAUCE!

overall, i am so proud of the effort put forth from my team that i put together myself and pay out of pocket to entertain me! let’s go to the playoffs boys!

what are your thoughts on the whole jack not giving a puck to a kid thing

*sighs* okay. this is gonna be long. sorry. i don’t ever, and haven’t ever, wanted to ask any player for anything during warmups, but i get so pissed off watching jack ignore people who ask for stuff, so… here’s my thing.

i know how locked in, focused, and ritualistic he is during warmups. he doesn’t look around at all except when him and dawson do their little not-subtle gossiping during warmups, and i’ve told you guys this before, he does not hand shit out to people. ever. it is an extremely rare occurrence for him to give anyone anything, whether it’s a little kid or a teenage girl, and he’ll only do it when absolutely necessary, which makes me angrier than how he doesn’t acknowledge people during warmups. and to be fair to him, he doesn’t really have to give anyone anything, nor does he owe giving a puck or a stick to anybody. that’s not what he’s there to do, and there is a possibility that because he’s him, if he hands out one puck, everyone else will be throwing fits that they didn’t get one.

HOWEVER, once again, he’s him.

he’s nj devils franchise player jack hughes, first overall draft pick jack hughes, league superstar jack hughes, all of that. he’s an idol for a lot of kids just beginning their lives in hockey, and i see so many signs at games that say things like jack, you’re my hero! i want to have a career just like yours! trade me candy for a puck? and it’s a little boy. and he never gives those kids a puck. i think he’s got to remember that sometimes and remember his stature in hockey, and that so many kids look up to him, so to read and fully acknowledge that sign and not do anything? a dick move in my book.

it should also be mentioned that he’s not special with his laser focus during warmups or his rituals. every hockey player has their thing, and there are plenty of people who manage to make time to give some kid a puck he’ll cherish forever. cole, trevor, jamie, quinn, for example… tomas tatar has some of the most strict warmup rituals and he’s always giving out a puck or two. jake allen and jakob markstrom are always handing out their sticks to young fans. it’s just so off-putting to me how much jack refuses to acknowledge the people that “PaY tO wAtCh HiM pLaY” on a regular basis, and more than ever in the past twoish years. if long term veterans of the league, who aren’t even as “famous” as you are, can take ten seconds to make some kid’s day, you should be able to as well. 🤷‍♀️

Bratter - Lindy notoriously used to bench Bratter during the 2021-2022 season. It was always so ridiculous too. And then in the 2022-2023 season, I dont know if you remember, but in the beginning of that season someone (maybe Novo?) asked Lindy about Bratter's ice time, and he replied back that he thought Bratter had played enough and I am positive that he played less than ten minutes that night, which is absurd. Bratter is way too talented now for Lindy to rag on him, but he was Lindy's punching bag for a bit there.

Timo - Is it a coincidence that Timo started playing lights out as soon as Lindy left? Who is to say. Yes, I realize it coincides with him getting healthy, but also, how do you not immediately put Timo with Nico. Or at the very least in the top six. He was playing on the third line at most points. Even during the stadium series I'm fairly certain he was on the third line. Absurd. And playing Timo on his off wing. And benching Timo.

Nico - I can't believe he tried to make his number one center a fucking shut down center for like the first half of this season, what a fucking joke. Like yes, Nico is one of the best two way centers in the league and yes his defensive game is very good, but he was playing Nico as a shutdown line, which is absurd. Have we seen Nico's offensive numbers? That boy is basically a PPG player for the past two seasons at least. Firmly believe, that if Nico wasn't captain, Lindy would give him scraps. I remember the UTTER disbelief I had when he finally gave Nico a compliment after the Stadium Series.

Holtzy - I mean this one's so fucking obvious right. Like I don't even think I need to explain. Constantly benching him. Constantly shitting on him during media availability. Burying him on a fourth line that failed to use him correctly.

Siegs - Remember when he benched fucking Jonas Siegenthaler during the first game of the playoffs last season? What the fuck was that. And I'm pretty sure it was to play Brendan Smith who like immediately took a penalty.

Shango - Still bitter that they sent him away because Lindy completely misused him. He and Jack had such insane chemistry during Shango's first couple of seasons. Jack used to center him and Kuokks and they were so much fun to watch. And then I don't fucking know what Lindy was doing with Shango. Benching him, moving him around the line up, he was playing on the fourth line when he's a natural shooter. Like what the fuck. Kid had an insane shot. The only thing he did right was let Shango stay on the PK. Had some great shorties/was a part of some great shorties.

I used to say that the only European Lindy liked was Tomas Tatar because no matter what Tatar would do, he would always play. I think that role has since been taken over by Ondrej Palat. Frankly shocked he let Nemo play as much as he did. I know its because his hand was forced, but shocking nonetheless.

The main issue is that he has a type of player he really really loves (the Miles Woods and the MM20s and the Brendan Smiths of the world) and he lets them get away with mistake after mistake after mistake, but he doesn't treat his players equally at all. It was so fucking frustrating seeing some guys go out there and fuck up and not have any consequences and others go out there and make a mistake and be benched or sent to the shadow realm immediately. Like if you're gonna discipline do it evenly across the board!

I'm trying to remember what he was like with some of our past Euros like Pavs and Goose and Mango and Zetts. I feel like he didn't give Boqy enough chances either and Boqy was a sneaky solid bottom six player.

“Happy birthday!” Nico smiles widely as you open your hotel door to find him with a small birthday cake in his hands. One candle is lit on top of it. A few of the other players are standing behind him and echo the sentiment. 

“Thank you guys.” You force yourself to smile at them, thankful that they even remembered even though you’re sure the other admins informed them. 

“Blow out your candle.” Dawson tells you. You lean forward and pucker your lips but Nico quickly moves the cake away from you. 

“She has to make a wish first.” He scolds Dawson, making the boys laugh as Dawson gives you a sheepish grin. 

The only thing you wanted was a simple text from your boyfriend. Something to show you that he actually cared. You couldn’t remember the last time you’d actually spoken to him. He texted you the day before, telling you he was getting on the plane to Ottawa. He hadn’t even told you that he landed. 

You close your eyes and think of your truest desire. I hope I experience true love one day. You blow out the candle and the group around you cheers. When you open your eyes, Nico is smiling at you. 

The two of you have gotten pretty close over the two years you’ve been working for the Devils. He can tell something is wrong but he waits until the two of you are alone to ask. “Do you not like cake?” 

“What? Of course I do.” You sigh as you carry the cake inside your hotel room, allowing Nico to follow you. 

“Then why do you look so sad?” He can’t help but look around your room that’s so much smaller than the one he’s sharing with Tatar on this road trip. It barely looks like you spent the night here. All of your belongings are packed up neatly by the door, ready to head to the Honda Center.

Nico’s concern for you touches your heart and you find yourself sniffling. “It’s my birthday and I can cry if I want to.” 

“Don’t cry.” The reference is lost on Nico as he steps forward to wipe a tear from your cheek with his thumb. “You can talk to me, you know.” 

You give him a watery smile as you struggle to keep your emotions in check. “I know, it’s just embarrassing.”

Nico allows you to step out of his grasp and patiently waits for you to stop fidgeting with your fingers. “Is it your boyfriend?” 

You look at him in surprise. “How do- who told you?” You had only told your closest friends and swore them to secrecy. They weren’t happy with the way Mat was treating you but they respected your wishes. 

“You’ve been withdrawn lately and you don’t go out with us anymore so I just kind of assumed…” He trails off as your words settle in his brain. “Is it supposed to be a secret?” 

“I don’t want it to be.” Tears begin falling from your eyes again and Nico pulls you into his chest, holding you as you break down. He lets you cry it out, rubbing soothing circles on your back as you fist his t-shirt in your hand. 

Once you’ve gotten it out, he leads you over to the bed where you both sit down. He listens intently as you tell him everything. Without ever saying his name or giving a clue about who he is, you tell Nico all about Mat and your relationship. 

When you’re finished, Nico takes your hand in his. “He’s an idiot. You deserve someone that’s proud to be with you. You’re an amazing person, y/n. If he doesn’t realize what he has then it’s his loss.” 

“He hasn’t even wished me a happy birthday.” You whisper. Saying everything out loud to Nico helped you realize just how toxic your relationship was. It was hurting you more than anything.”I should just forget him, huh?” 

“I can’t tell you what to do.” Nico lets go of your hand and stands up. “But I hope whatever you decide brings you happiness.” 

You leave with the team for the game and on your way to the arena, you block Mat on all socials. If he can’t be bothered to text a simple happy birthday message to his girlfriend on her birthday, you can’t be bothered to say goodbye. 

A month passes and you struggle daily to not unblock Mat. Every day it gets a little easier for you but you often find yourself missing him even though you know you shouldn’t. Your friends keep you occupied and you begin going out with the Devil’s players again. 

As time passes you find yourself leaning on Nico for comfort more and more. He’s always making sure you get home after nights out, texting you all the time just to tell you about his day, and you’ve even started a routine of getting breakfast together every sunday when you’re in jersey. 

“There’s my favorite couple.” Your usual waitress greets the two of you after you return from a long roadie. 

You blush. “Oh we’re not…” 

“Hello, Angie.” Nico ignores the comment and smiles politely. “Can we have our usual spot?” 

“Of course!” She leads you over to the corner booth and rattles off the daily specials that Nico knows by heart.  You both order your drinks and Angie walks away to get them as Nico looks over the menu. 

“What are you getting?” He asks you after a moment even though you get the same thing every time you come. You were anticipating him to be angry or at least a little upset with you but he doesn’t give you any indication that he is. 

“You’re not mad?” 

He scrunches his eyebrows together in confusion. “Mad? Mad about what?” 

Was he not listening? “She assumed we were a couple.” You explain. 

“Well you’re the only woman I come here with and you’re beautiful.” Nico says, causing your cheeks to heat from the compliment. “Why wouldn’t she?” 

“I-I just…” You struggle to get your thoughts in order. Mat would’ve freaked out. But Mat also wouldn’t be seen with you in public anyway. The two of you always ordered in when you spent time together. “I’m sorry.” 

Nico sets his menu down and frowns at you. “Y/n, you’re my friend. I’m not ashamed of that. There’s nothing to be sorry for.” 

“Okay.” You bite back another apology and pick up the menu so you don’t say something stupid. 

Nico can see how bad your ex hurt your self esteem so he does everything he can to remind you how amazing you are. He used to love listening to you talk about your passions, you’d get so animated and he’d listen to you talk for hours. After the breakup, he noticed you biting your tongue a lot and trying not to take up a lot of space in a room. 

He got you out of the house as much as he could. He took you dancing, you went to museums, he even sat through the Broadway musical SIX because you kept singing the songs over and over again. Everyone around him could see that he was falling in love with you but he was trying his best to let you heal without pressuring you into a new relationship. 

When Jack tells him that he saw you out at the bar kissing another man, Nico almost loses it. He immediately assumes it’s your ex and he’s pissed all day as the Devils get ready for the last game of the season. All the progress he’s watched you make over the last few months is going to disappear and he’s not sure if he can watch you become a shell of a human again. 

“Hey, good luck, Ni.” You smile at him as he passes you in the hallway on the way to play sewer ball with the boys. 

Nico grumbles a response and doesn’t even look your way as he keeps walking. 

You furrow your brows as you chase after him. “Nico!” Not once in your friendship has he been that dismissive of you. Even when he was busy, he made time for you. He never made you feel like a burden. 

“What?” The word comes out harsher than he intended as he turns to face you. You flinch away from him and he reaches out to you, feeling guilty for the way he spoke to you. 

You take a step back. “Have a good game.” He watches as you close yourself off to him, his worst fear coming true. 

“Y/n, wait.” He calls as you start to walk away. You don’t respond to him so he catches up to you quickly, turning you around to face him again. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to speak to you like that. I just…everything you’ve been through and you’re going to go right back to him?” 

Your expression changes from hurt to confusion as you cross your arms over your chest as if to protect yourself from him. “Go back to who? What are you talking about?” 

“Your ex.” Nico sighs, trying not to let it show that his heart is breaking. Your mind reels. Your ex? You hadn’t seen him in months unless you counted the NHL highlight reels. You couldn’t even remember the last time Mat crossed your mind. “Jack saw you at the bar last night.” Nico continues when you don’t say anything.

You bite your lip as you think back to last night. Your friends had begged you to meet up for a drink and while dancing a man had come up and kissed you. “That was nothing. A random guy kissed me but I pushed him away. He wasn’t…” You. 

Your eyes widen as you realize the only man you want kissing you is Nico. The man who stood beside you and patiently helped you heal your heart. Even as your friend, Nico had been more caring and loving to you than Mat had ever been. 

“It’s not really any of my business.” Nico says, unaware of the revelation you’re having. “I just don’t want to watch the light leave your eyes again.” 

You open your mouth to respond just as someone yells to Nico. “Go. Have a good game.” You smile at him as he gives you a nod before walking away. 

Your mind is at war with your heart the entire game. No one has ever treated you as well as Nico does but will that change if you admit your feelings for him? You didn’t want to think he was capable of hurting you like that but your past made you wary. Your friendship with him was so good you weren’t sure if it was worth trying to be more. What if you broke up? Then what?

You don’t see Nico until the after-party. He had a lot of media to do and the other admin you were riding with wanted to get there early. You were already a drink in when he walked in flanked by a few teammates. 

You watched as his eyes roamed over the crowd searching for you. When he noticed you on the edge of the dance floor his lips turned into a warm smile before walking toward you. When he reached you he put an arm around your waist, pulling you close to him so you could hear him over the music. “What are you doing this summer?”

“I don’t know yet.” You admitted. You weren’t sure if you wanted to stay in the area or head to your home town for a month or two. Neither option really seemed appealing. “Why?”

“Come to Switzerland with me.” His lips brush your ear as he talks and then he pulls away to look into your eyes as you consider his invitation. 

“Okay.” You breathe.

“Okay?” He grins as a slow smile spreads across your face. 

You nod to reaffirm your decision. “I’d love to.” 

He’s kissing you before either one of you has time to think about it and all of your fears and insecurities melt away as he holds you in his arms. You wrap your arms around his neck and kiss him back eagerly letting him erase every thought in your head except for him.

Doll profiles for my modern dolls! Since my collection has changed much over the past few months. Under the cut because this will be long!

Most of my modern dolls aren't canon character dolls, and any who are (namely Corinne) are still a little bit divorced from their canon counterparts, because I have fun with extrapolating storylines for my own dolls, and trying to make them fit in alongside their new friends. On to the bios!

Lena Grzegorczyk (she/her)

Lena is the oldest doll in my collection, and therefore I think it's apt that she is my oldest character. She's 14, and enjoys learning new things. She loves to read and draw, and she just got a guitar for Christmas! She is also obsessed with vintage fashion. Her dream job is to work with textiles someday, in any capacity. Lena's favorite color is red!

Tsukiko Matsubara (she/her)

Tsukiko is happy, confident 13 year old! She loves experimenting and trying new things, and her favorite thing she owns is her little science kit. She's fascinated by chemistry, and would love to do something with that someday! For now, she spends her time messing with her camera, and doing fun (safe) experiments in her kitchen. Tsukiko has Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, which often has her using hand-crutches. Her favorite color is turquoise!

Divya Patel (she/her)

Divya is a sweet, caring 12 year old. She is on the local youth's swim team, and she enjoys painting and sewing, and her favorite class at school is art class! She had a blast with the pottery unit. She's not quite sure what she wants to do someday, but she has plenty of time to decide! Divya is half Gujarati, and half Afro-Brazilian. She's good friends with both Tsukiko, her classmate, and Lena, who she met at an after-school art club last year. Her favorite color is light pink!

Andrés Fuentes (he/him)

Andrés is really excited that he made it onto the boy's soccer team. He just came out as trans, and was worried that he wouldn't be allowed to participate. Andrés just turned 13, and in his spare time he loves to play the drums, which annoys his family to no end. He does brilliantly in maths, which makes him think he might be suited to something like accounting, but he hasn't thought too much on the subject. His family is Puerto-Rican, and he speaks Spanish at home. He was also born hard-of-hearing in his right ear, and he's working towards becoming fluent in ASL. His favorite color is green.

Nihkko Lehtinen (he/him)

Nihkko just transferred to this school district this year, and he has found a good friend in Andrés on the soccer team. He's 12 years old, and outside of playing soccer, he's looking forward to this year's school production, which he wants to audition for. He loves to sing and dance, and wants to put those skills to use! His family is Saami and Tatar, which makes him really proud! His favorite color is yellow!

Esme Adrianov (she/they)

Esme is a quiet, stubborn 12 year old. She doesn't move outside of her social circle much, but she deeply values the friends that she does have. Despite being rather shy, she isn't afraid to stand up for her and her friends when needed. They enjoy running on the track team, and they love baking and experimenting with fun, new recipes! Her family is Unangan, and her parents raised her to be really, really proud of that fact. She is good friends with Nihkko, Andrés, and Nanea. Their favorite color is blue!

Nanea Jeon (she/her)

Nanea is a sweet, confident 12 year old! She loves biking around town with Esme, and working in the gardens with her parents on the weekend. She loves to write as well, and she's written a few short stories that she is extremely proud of! Nanea is half Hawaiian and half Korean, and she greatly looks forward to when she can see her cousins, who all live so far away! Her favorite color is light orange!

Amarah Adeyemi (she/her)

Amarah is a friendly, confident 12 year old! She draws a lot in her spare time, and enjoys creating new clothing designs in her sketchbook- it's her dream someday to have her own clothing line! Otherwise, she enjoys maths and history, and she loves hanging out with her friends after school at the park. She's Nigerian, and her family moved to the US when she was young. She grew up speaking Yoruba, along with English, at home. She's close with Corinne, who she met in 3rd grade. Her favorite color is purple!

Corinne Ziyì (子义) Tan (she/her)

Corinne is a kind and resilient 12 year old. In her free time she enjoys winter sports such as skiing and ice skating. After school she enjoys helping around her mother's restaurant or going to the park with Amarah. Her favorite subject is history- she finds it interesting and engaging. She thinks she'd like to go on someday to further her studies in the humanities- her name, Ziyì, means someone who will stand with righteousness, and she feels that it fits her and her goals very well! But all that is a long way off. For now she's happy to spend her time as she does. Her favorite color is mint!

Eloise Gruenberg (she/her)

Eloise is an introverted and studious 12 year old. She loves school- she loves learning new things, and challenging herself. Outside of school, she loves to dance. She finds the movements therapeutic, and it helps her recenter herself. Eloise is half black, and half Ashkenazi Jewish, and her faith is something that is really important to her. She was born with albinism, which affects her ability to see clearly, so she wears glasses and uses a cane when she's out. She finds that brightly colored clothes are her favorite- and she enjoys putting together fun outfits in the mornings. Her favorite color is red!

Russian-Ukraine War Part 4: The Birth of Russia

So Russia is big. It's like one of their defining traits, vodka, art, brutality, colonialism, communism, and being massive.  But did you know that once Russia was once…not so big?  Let's do some history.

So the Mongolian Empire was a brutal genocidal engine of conquest but if you survived the initial invasion, it wasn’t so bad by the standard of brutal imperialists, the Mongols were big on religious tolerance, cultural integration and above all trade.  So the Russians found themselves suddenly connected to Central and East Asia through their Mongol overlords, and Russia for the first time in Russian history, it is as connected to East Asia as it is to Europe.  

The Mongolian Empire was great at conquest but struggled a lot with the ruling, and it probably won’t surprise you that it broke into 4 smaller states shortly after the death of Genghis Khan, located in the Middle East, China, Mongolia and Russia Respectively.  The one that concerns us is the Golden Hoard, the Russian based Mongolian state, who were called “Tatars” by the locals. 

The Golden Hoard wasn’t an Empire that spent most of their time breathing down your neck and setting major policies in their capital, instead they ruled indirectly via tributary states.  They would basically allow your kingdom to exist and kinda do its own thing as long as you paid your taxes, and one special boy kingdom was allowed the honor of collecting the taxes.  The special boy of our story is the Grand Duchy of Moscow, which will overtime be upgraded to the Principality of Moscow, to the Grand Principality of Moscow as they steadily get more and more powerful, using the privileges they got as the Mongol’s special boys to eventually grow their military and economy. 

Eventually they were able to push back the Mongols (assisted by the Golden Hordes constant civil wars), and by the time of Ivan the III aka Ivan the Great, the state was independent and a massive nation. Ivan III is kinda seen as the first independent Ruler of Russia, where Russia exists in its own right and not just as a Mongolian Tributary state.   Ivan’s grandson, Ivan the IV, aka Ivan the Vasilyevich, aka Ivan Grozny, aka Ivan the Terrible eventually decided that the Title of Grand Prince wasn’t quite good enough and so it was he who formally turned the state into an Empire, giving himself the title of Tsar, after brutally conquering all the people around him.  And so the Russian Empire was born between Ivan the Great and Ivan the Terrible, go figure.

So Ok, Russia is an independent Empire, but under Ivan the IV it becomes more than that, it becomes the Orthodox State.   Let me walk back a bit.  Christianity first super huge split was in 1054, where the Eastern Greek Speaking Orthodox Church broke apart from the Western Latin Speaking Roman Catholic Church.  The Catholics have the Pope, who manage to establish himself as a religious power greater than even Kings, while the east had the Patriarch, whose power was limited by the Emperor?  What Emperor you say?  Well time to talk about the Byzantine Emperor

So the Byzantines are the dominant supreme cultural power of the East right?  Well by the time of the Mongols, not so much.  The great city of Constantinople was sacked in 1204 by the 4th Crusade, in one of the greatest own goals in history, and the Empire was in a state of decline ever since.  And I mean actual decline, not Edward Gibbon (your decline is almost a thousand years) decline, which was pretty upsetting for the Rus, the other great Orthodox power (Ok I see you Bulgaria and Romania, you’ll get your own episodes another time calm down), and as Byzantine declined, Muscovy keep taking on more and more of the role as “big Orthodox power of the east”.  But the striking blow came when Constantinople fell in 1453 to the Ottoman Empire under Mehmed the II aka Mehmed the Conqueror, bringing a final end to the Byzantine empire…ok there were a few splinter states but Mehmet gets them 20 years later so once and for all Byzantines are gone.

SO I cannot empathizes enough how much of a blow this is to the Orthidox World. The Byzantine Empire was THE Orthidox power for over a thousand years, it was the center of the Orthidox world.Consantinople had been the center of the Orthodox church since Constantine himself, it's like Rome turning Muslim or Mecca Christian, like this is a theological crisis.  However, the Grand Principality of Moscow was eager to take on the role of center of the Orthodox Church, and Ivan the Great started to call Moscow “The Third Rome” to succeed the Byzantines as the Byzantines had “succeed” the Romans (despite being Roman���look i never said it is smart).  This is why Russia’s coat of Arms is the two headed eagle of the Byzantines.  His grandson Ivan Grozny unified the Principality into a strong centralized autocratic state through the power of brutal oppression and secret police, creating the Russian Empire.  Later the Patriarch would relocate there, effectively the closest thing to the head of the Orthodox church, making Moscow the new center of the Orthodox faith.

As the "Third Rome" Russia wasn't just an Empire, it had a divine mandate to take territory and spread the Orthidox Faith. The notion of this Russian style Manifest Destiny is going to come up again in this series, and it has never completely left the Russian National identiy.

Ivan took the title of Tsar which means Caesar as in Emperor.  As an Empire rather than a Principality, the “Divine Mandate” of Russia became to serve as the protector of the Orthodox Church, to reunify the old Kievan Rus, and restore Constantinople.  Like most empires, including the Mongol, the Russian Empire is based on the notion that they have a divine right to rule over everybody else. This dream was put aside for the Time of Troubles, a civil war so horrific that it makes Game of Thrones look peaceful, but after that confusion Russia was ready to go (this is where the Royal family goes from Ruik to Romanov) This is not going to be an extensive look at all of Tsarist Russia, just the stuff which I think is important to understand for Ukraine.  Colonization, the Tsar and Serfdom.

I've been putting it off for too long, hoping that I'd finish at least one thing with dwk AUs, but I've lost interest and didn't come up with design for those who are left, so I'll just spill out what I have

So it's a Russian reality AU. The events are happening in the mid 2000s (like 2005-2007), and I haven't decided on the rest, but I thought they could like fight with people (aka The Ubeatables, Cool Kickers and 1FC) from other neighbourhoods, gang on gang kind of shit. Normal activities of 2000s kids. But they're pretty harmless, just being noisy teens.

Now design concepts (names are based off English dub, since this version is more common to Russians)

Peretc Rinat Sabirovich 

That's Deniz. He's tatar in this reality. Same old rich boy, who has a good computer at home and buys original clothes and not on the market square. Wears an earring in his left ear, which some people call him gay for, but it's actually for the sake of the music. Also people joke about his surname, because it literally means "pepper" and he tells them "Kit mannan Na kutak".

Butkova Vasilisa Lavrentievna

Vanessa, as you can see. Half-Ukrainian, her parents moved to Russia after USSR collapse. Unlike her original version, doesn't like to be called by full name and preferes Asya or Vasya. The meme is that Vasya is a male name.

Khazanovsky Dima Fedorovich

Jojo. Don't have much to say about him. His Би-2 (Bi-2) t-shirt is the only thing left by his father. He also wears rubber bracelets from a local shop. Likes ''classical rock'' like said Bi-2 and Kino.

Belyaev Roma Valentinovich

Raban, can't say much about him either. He's like a nerd goodie-goodie, even his clothes are more 80-90s.

From now on I don't have any reference sheets, so it's just information about the characters.

That's Leon. Even though his name is Kolya, Vanessa calls him Nikita (an asshole name in Russia). Jokes on nefors (subcultures like punk or emo), but actually doesn't mind them.

Marlon. He and his brother are also known as Tolyan and Kolyan duo. Mostly listens to hip-hop like Detsl, but also listens to Korol i Shut, Kino and some other foreign artists. His style of clothes is more hip-hop-like so some people call him ''not true rock fan'', even though he never stated he was lol.

Temirov Kirill Timofeevich

That's Markus and I don't have any headcanons on him. Like zero. But he might be an emo.

genuine question, why would anyone mourn or care about the lives of ru soldiers that died in the war? they participated in the invasion, they probably killed innocents before dying. if somebody i knew turned out to be one of those dead soldiers i would only be glad that such a person died. i dont care if we were close, coming onto the foreign land with the purpose of harm eliminates any good characteristics this person might have had

well there is enough people who still pity russian soldiers. for example, russian "liberal" news channel dozd’ that was based in latvia wanted to start gathering money for "poor russian boys" but their licence was withdrawn. but again it’s only one example, you’re probably lucky not to see just how many people in the west want to see ukrainians dead. plus my post implied more than just russian military - I’m tired of europeans pitying "regular russians". because they enjoyed all of the advantages of the modern world, they always had access to information (again the was started in 2014, they never talked about. made jokes about "our crimea" but never fucking did anything) but somehow europe pities them more that regular ukrainians. because it was ukrainians like me who had to hear the explosions, to live without basic utilities which russia destroyed, to work without paying attention to the deteriorating mental health and I’m still the bad guy for asking not to pity fucking russians.

so all I’m saying if they behave like animals and don’t want to do anything to change their society (again the soldiers have families, friends, neighbours who stay silent), don’t try to make them human, that is their job.

ukrainian are expected to be perfect: 40 millions should be this image of goody-two-shoes, we can’t have racists, homophobes, far-right but walk out of your door right now and ask 10 people simple questions about their political spectrum and you’ll see that every country has them. but ukrainians who are experiencing a literal genocide - there are all of the evidence of this from killing civilians to destroying physical culture and kidnapping of the kids - have to be perfect. russians? they just have to say "we are against war" as if it shouldn’t be a given. after that they can say whatever: they can call ukrainians khokhols or be racist towards tatars, say that crimea is not a sandwich and it won’t be return to ukraine or that reparations won’t be payed to ukraine.

they say that we are at fault for putin being in power. that is true, I’ve seen tweets saying that zelenskyy is a hypocrite because he didn’t prosecute putin for the explosion in russia in 1999 - zelenskyy just finished university in 2000. we should’ve organised the protests in russia, we should’ve taken responsibility.

we showed them again and again how to protest: the two biggest protest in 2004 and 2014 should’ve been an example for them. in 2014 we had russian flags in kyiv, people wanted russian people to finally do something like "look we came out - you should too, together we are stronger". people were killed in ukrainian capital - more people came out, so their "oh we will beaten by the police" is pathetic.
