How does tarot work?

Tarot can reveal hidden influences shaping your life—things you may not even be aware of, like subconscious beliefs, fears, or past experiences that still affect your decisions. It is a tool that allows me to read more than just your past and future. And all through what? Your present energy. Who you are today. What you identify with. Your habits. Your thoughts and feelings.

Many people misunderstand tarot, especially when they receive a reading they don’t like. If something undesirable shows up in a reading, does that mean you’re doomed? That you have no control and just have to accept it? Absolutely not.

In essence, tarot is a mirror reflecting not just where you are but who you are. It doesn’t just predict your future—it helps you understand why things are happening, what role you play in them, and how you can consciously create the life you desire.

The future is not set in stone.

When I read your cards, I am reading the future that is most aligned with your present energy. This means that your current thoughts, emotions, and actions are creating a path toward a specific outcome. But here’s the key: energy is fluid. The future isn’t fixed—it shifts depending on who you are and what you do.

Happy whenever this finds you. For me it is very early in the morning on Monday, June 17th, 2024. And I asked the cards for the energy of the week. Several of the cards just sort of fell out of the deck to be read. So pay particular attention to the 10 of Spirals and Elpi. Also maybe the Lovers, although when that came out of the deck it was firmly attached to the 9 of Stones. As always, if this speaks to you, any part of it, then it was for you to find. If none of it speaks to you, then perhaps you know someone it will speak to. Enjoy. Card 1: Elpi, the Star. This can be a tricky card when we are talking about energies for the week. It is tricky because it is a card of hope, and being sure that we are looking to the future when we make decisions. Sometimes, depending on placement, it can be about how the choices are impacted today. However, we look at context when we do readings, and context here is all about leading with hope. Moving into the week with optimism and a focus on the good things to come. Looking at the reading as a whole, there will be material successed, but you will want to be a little wary. You may be asked to make a choice that feels like a loss. Only you will know if it is or not. Card 2: The Four of Stones (Pentacles): When I look at this card I think to myself "Do NOT hoard that which you have". This is a card of material possessions but it is also a reminder that we can be too possessive about them. Share your gifts, be they material goods, or your knowledge. Hoarding anything prevents you from focusing on what you need to focus on for personal growth. It's time to break out the good china and use it.

Cards 3: Nine of Stones (Pentacles): Despite what it looks like you are not walking away from a success. You are walking away from something that has done what it needed to do in your life and it will no longer serve you to hold onto it. This is a card of taking control of your life, both on the material plane and the spiritual. Knowing that you have the power to walk away from the things that may be holding you back. The tidy pile of stacked stones in the image tells me that you have taken care of business, this isn't a "giving" up situation. The work has been done, things have been cleaned up and you can walk away without regret, or worry. Card 4: The Lovers: This is a card of true deep partnership, and does not need to be about romance. Though it very often is. As always we look at the context, and the context is of energy. Because this is a card of partnership and therefore unity of action, from an energy standpoint, it may be that you are acting in full unity of your mind, body and spirit. All parts of you are wanting and going for the same thing. If not, then it is time to align all yourself to your higher goals. Card 5: Ten of Spirals (Wands): At at crossroads which path will you take? Tens are often the ending of one part of our journey and the beginning of another. What I really find wonderful is that all of our cards for this week are about getting ourselves in the right frame of mind to make a tough choice. Elpi reminds us that all our past choices have brought us here, and to trust that the universe will; have our backs, both the Stone cards tell us to get our affairs into order so that when it is time to make that decision we do so with integrity and a clear mind to our higher mind. And the Lovers ask us to be in unity with our full self. The Centaur here carries a lot into the future. It is up to you to decide if what you carry is "baggage" or the tools to make a better world. A reading for the week of 7/1/24–7/7/24 (echibeckia edition!):

The Nine of Pentacles represents material success and wealth as the result of hard work coming to fruition. It asks you to appreciate how you got here and who helped you. This abundance also frees you to turn from physical, material matters to questions of helping your community and deepening your spirituality, whatever that may be. The King/Father of Pentacles represents a similar kind of abundance, along with practicality, security, and stability. The King/Father of Swords also carries practical energy, as well as wisdom, good advice, and a sense of fairness and justice.

Together, I see these three cards as asking us to reflect on what we have to offer our communities, especially when it comes to questions of equality, justice, and stewardship. How can we use the gifts we have to take care of others in concrete, practical ways? This care should not involve giving beyond what your means, or setting yourself on fire to keep someone else warm. Rather, this is an example of how caring for yourself enables you to then care for others. The greater world is filled with injustice. With that in mind, how can you help people today?
