My personal Ranking of all Sailor Moon Actresses in Sera Myu

Disclaimer: This is only my opinion. What I would also like to say is that my opinion can of course change. This ranking looked a little different recently and a lot can change when I watch the musicals again and think about everything again.

I will not rank Sailor Moon from The Super Live Kanae Yumemiya, Natsuki Koga, Tomomi Kasai. Unfortunately, The Super Live was never recorded except for a few clips or cell phone recordings. The same goes for the show that took place at the Sailor Moon themed cafe Shinning Moon Tokyo. I will not rank Yui Yokohama from The Super Live 2025 as she has not appeared yet.

I will try to keep it short. (I'm not good to keep short…)

12th Place:

Satsuki Sugawara (Nogizaka46 Version 2024 Team Star)

She is a member of the 5th generation of Nogizaka46 since 2022 like all Sailor Guardians in the Version. I don't see the Usagi spirit in her. She reminds me more of Ami. I think Aruno (Sailor Mercury) would have been better suited than Usagi. Satsuki can undoubtedly sing and dance well. In my opinion, she doesn't have such good chemistry with Tenju (Tuxedo Mask) either (but that could also be because both Tuxedo and all Shitennou are very overacting in my opinion, they are all former Takazuka.)

11th place:

Hotaru Nomoto (2016 - 2017)

Hotaru appears in Amour Eternal & Le Mouvement Final. She is the second Nelke Moon and the successor of Satomi. In my opinion, she looks very similar to Usagi. Her singing is good but sometimes a little unstable. She sometimes smiles in situations where it shouldn't actually happen. She has been seen in other productions since the Sailor Moon musicals and has improved a lot. Another problem is that she doesn't have any real chemistry with Yuga (Tuxedo Mask). But Satomi already had that problem. I don't know if the intention was to portray the relationship like in the 90s anime. But it could also be due to the big age difference (the two have the biggest age difference between Usagi and Mamoru actors ever, almost 20 years) and the difference in experience. Yuga is a former Takazuka and also overacts a little. Actually, that bothers me a lot less with her than with NogiMyu 2024.

10th place:

Shiori Kubo (Nogizaka46 Team 2019)

It hurts my soul to put Shiori here. I had considered putting her in 9th place. I know a lot of people don't like her but I have a lot of heart for her and for the 2019 version. Many people ask why a third version was made at all (well, you can also ask yourself why there is a 2024 version). The 2019 version does a lot of things right. In my eyes, Shiori is a good Moon. Yes, she overacts a bit, which isn't really necessary since she is supposed to be very similar to Usagi. Unfortunately, her pitch doesn't suit Usagi very well since she has a relatively deep voice. But she can definitely sing and dance. This was proven, for example, in the Nogizaka selfproduction musical "Zambi" where she plays one of the main characters "Maya". She tries to sing in a higher pitch, which unfortunately led to her squeaking. I think she has good chemistry with Mikako (Tuxedo Mask) even though Mikako is almost 12 years older than Shiori.

9th place:

Riko Tanaka (2021 - 2022, 2025)

Riko appears as Sailor Moon in Kaguya-hime no Koibito and & Festival Chronicle. It's difficult to rate Riko because the two musicals in which she appears don't offer much. In KaguyaMyu, Luna is the protagonist and the others fade into the background. In Festival Chronicle there are a lot of songs and unfortunately the story wasn't developed very much. The little that you see of her is that she isn't the typical Usagi. She's more of the strong Usagi who argues. There's also not much to say about Usagi and Mamoru's relationship because there are hardly any Usagi/Mamoru moments. (In general, the new musicals don't offer much in this regard, there are hardly any love songs either.) But what I can definitely say is that Riko can sing very well and I would have liked to have seen her in more Sailor Moon musicals. That goes for the whole cast. (As I write this I'm considering swapping Riko's & Shiori's places.)

8th place:

Marina Kuroki (2001 - 2005)

The first Bandai Moon on the list. I know Marina is very popular and I can understand why a lot of people like her. She is one of the most talented actresses in Sera Myu. She can sing and dance incredibly well. I just have one big problem with her. She overacts a lot. Sometimes she's very, very exaggerated. I don't want to blame her for that. You have to remember that she was only 12 when she got the role. It could also be because of the script that she was told to exaggerate so much. She has very good chemistry with her three Tuxedo Mask actors, especially with Kenji, even though he was a bit older. With the other two, less so. That could be because of the script and maybe something because of the age difference. Sometimes there is no chemistry between two people.

7th place:

Sayuri Inoue (Nogizaka46 Version 2018 Team Star)

Sayuri was a member of Nogizaka's first generation. I know that's an unpopular opinion but whatever. Sayuri is a good Moon. She can sing amazingly and her voice suits Usagi. (She is probably the main reason, along with Minami (Sailor Jupiter), why most people like Team Star better. I would say the other members are OK but not over the top.) She is the sweet, friendly Usagi but I don't really find the Usagi spirit in her. I can't really explain it well. In my opinion, she doesn't have that much chemistry with Mikako either. It could also be because Sayuri is a very shy person.

6th place:

Nagi Inoue (Nogizaka46 Version 2024 Team Moon)

Nagi and Sayuri have the same last name but not related. They never met at Nogizaka either. When Nagi became part of Nogizaka along with other members of the 5th generation, Sayuri hadn't been a member for almost 2 years. Nagi is great as Usagi. You see her, you hear her and you know that she is Usagi. you don't really notice that this is her first musical performance. I have the feeling that Team Moon has very good chemistry with each other and forms a real unit, but also with the other members of the fifth generation. Especially when you watch the curtain call. I also think that Nagi can deal with Tenju's overacting better than Satsuki. In my opinion, the two have much stronger chemistry (which you can see in the curtain call, I think that Nagi kissed Tenju and then Tenju kissed her).

Top 5:

5th place:

"ANZA" Anza Ooyama (1993 - 1998)

Anza was the first and longest Sailor Moon actresses of all time. I have to say that I haven't seen all the musicals with her. That's why my opinion of her can change quickly. Anza is not the typical Usagi, she has her own character and for many she is still one of the best, if not the best, Moon actress. That's why some will say how can I put her in fifth place? She can sing very well and is still very much behind Sera Myu. She also has very good chemistry with Yuuta Mochizuki. Many would probably say they are the best Usagi Mamoru couple. (For me it's only good enough for second place, but whatever)

4th place:

Fumina Hara (1998 - 1999)

Fumina is the second Moon ever. Apparently she got a lot of hate back then. Which I can't understand. But I think that would have happened to anyone who came after Anza. She is a more quiet Usagi and less hyper. Her voice may not suit Usagi 100% but it is unmistakable and beautiful. She has the fewest musicals of the Bandai Moons, which I think is a shame. She deserved so much more and I would have liked to have seen her for longer. (Maybe it's because Kaguya Shima Densetsu is one of my favorite Bandai musicals…) Her chemistry with her second Tuxedo Mask (who is also very underrated…) is incredibly beautiful. It may also be because of the script. Since Kaguya Shima Densetsu transforms into the Sailor Guardians for the little time we see, we get to see a lot more of the civil relationship between the two.

The winners’ podium begins: Third place and the bronze medal goes to:

Satomi Okubo (2013 - 2015)

She was the second Moon I've seen in the musicals. She is Usagi as written in the manga. Her voice may not be in the best range for singing, but that doesn't bother me. She is the happy, over-excited Usagi, but she can also be the strong and brave Usagi. When she's on stage, you know she's Usagi. I was very sad when I noticed that all the Inner Senshi were replaced after Un Nouveau Voyage (there is no official explanation for this…). I would have liked to have seen her as Moon in Amour Eternal & in Le Mouvement Final. It was a nice moment to see her as Sailor Cosmos and as a guest in Festival Chronicle. I don't know why, but I like her better than Hotaru with Yuga. I can't really put my finger on it, although the problem was there. It could be the ball game scene, the Silver Millennium scene, the Crystal Palace scene, or the scene where Haruka approaches Usagi.

Silver medal (how appropriate):

Mizuki Yamashita (Nogizaka46 Version 2018 Team Moon)

she was a member of the third generation of Nogizaka until 2024. I know only a few will share this opinion. But in my eyes she is the best New Myu Moon and the best Nogizaka Moon. I don't even know where to start explaining why I like her. Well first of all I think she looks a lot like Usagi. Her voice fits Usagi perfectly, she could dub her. I know a lot of people say her singing isn't that good but she sings in a slightly higher pitch than usual. You can hear that when you listen to her speech in the curtain call. She also appeared in "Zambi" as the anxious "Anna". So this wasn't her first stage. In my opinion she has a natural talent for acting. She is now a professional actress.  As an example, she is shown in the film "Loving Yamada at Lv999! Akane Kinoshita plays the female protagonist. Her serious face is her normal facial expression and should not be criticized. Her gestures and facial expressions are always perfect. She is also a Sailor Moon fan and uses Usagi catch phrase in her normal vocabulary. Her name Mizuki also means beautiful moon. Her Nogizaka nickname was Zukki, which sounds very similar to the Japanese word for moon, Tsuki. That's why the pun with the catch phrase works for her. But in my opinion her greatest strength is her incredibly good chemistry with Mikako, who is a Sailor Moon fan just like her. The age difference is not noticeable at all. These small, subtle things make the two of them my favorite Usagi Mamoru couple. (Mikako really kissed Mizuki, okay, well, Sayuri too). I'll say it straight away, my favorite Nogizaka musical version is Team Moon 2018 for many reasons. Mizuki played a big part in that.  Before you think I'm a mizuki fan, I didn't know the band Nogizaka46 until this musical.

(I think it's clear at this point that I'm not good at keeping things brief…)

And the First place go to:

Miyuki Kanbe (2000 - 2001 🕊)

She was my first Moon. What can I say? She didn't play Usagi, she is/was Usagi. There is no other way to describe her. She was perfect. It's such a shame that she wasn't there longer and that she's no longer with us. But the Dracul Arc belongs to her and she lives on in the hearts of the fans.

RIP Miyuki - Moon. ♡

Sera Myu Music Festival 2022 Blu-Ray

Event was held at the Shinagawa Prince Hotel Stellar Ball in Tokyo from November 17th – 20th, 2022.

I missed it by less than two weeks since I wasn't in Japan until December of that year. I doubt I would have stood a chance getting tickets.

Can we also talk about how excited I am to have Japanese Blu-Rays being the same region where I live? Makes it so much easier!!!

If y’all know me, you’ll know that I absolutely abhor omegaverse (you can thank Kurui Naku Ban Beta, Sayonara Alpha, and Erito for that). Literally everything you could do in an abo has already been done. I don’t see a point in making more of these. Mangakas: Okay, let’s do domsub instead But hey, am I not a Okitsu whore? No. Anyway, even though I was excited about listening to this, I knew I was going to hate Kotani because he was an asshole. 

There’s only one thing worse than an abo.

AN ABO WITH AN ASSHOLE CHARACTER.

But, in spite of myself, I actually enjoyed this. 

I’m having a moral crisis, help.

JK. Unmei no Tsugai doesn’t sell itself as a serious plot, so it shouldn’t be taken seriously either. Unlike our deep try-hards. I mean, it’s your pretty run-of-the-mill dumbass gets an excuse to fuck the asshole, falls in love with him, the asshole becomes more of an asshole, the dumbass drags a third party to make him jealous, the asshole becomes more of an asshole, poor third party gets led on and dumped, and the dumbass and asshole finally gets together without the asshole even apologizing, medetashi, medetashi. But the way that Haruta wrote and movic set it all up was fantastic. 

Now this is how you do comedy. I initially had some doubts ‘cause the narration in the first track was kind of strange lmao. It went from medieval style to traditional Japanese and it was narrated by someone who sounded like a news broadcaster wth. Is this a densetsu??? The CD later turned out to be a whole vocal flex for Massuu and Okitsu ‘cause goddamn. 

Massuu, for starters, used a tone slightly above his Hirokuni but slightly smoother. I haven’t read the manga before, so I wasn’t sure how things were going to go, so I was very surprised that he pulled his shounen (aka his Kirishima) voice later! I loved it. His changes were dynamic, chaotic, and very fitting for Shishikura. AND! AND! JESUS CHRIST HIS SEXAY MONOLOGUES!!! HELLO??? WAS HE PAID EXTRA??? Y’ALL GOTTA HEAR ALL THE BEDROOM SUBJUGATIONS!!! I didn’t know he had that in him tbh. I was just blown away. He has never bottomed this chaotically before, if I recall correctly. It’s evident that he had a lot of fun recording this (as did Okitsu as per the cast talk) and I love that! It makes me wish this had a second volume so we could hear more of this kind of Massuu.

Onto Okitsu,

Y’all already know what I’m gonna say. 

Is my bias over Okitsu making me like this? Who knows? But it’s undeniable that my man has, once again, slayed this role. I won’t talk about his perfect performance much ‘cause I’ve already run out of praises years ago, so just know that if you’re not an Okitsu bitch by now, you’re really missing out lmao.

I CAN’T BELIEVE THAT WE’VE WITNESSED OKITSU PLAY TWO BETAS, A PRETEND OMEGA, AND NOW FINALLY AN ALPHA!!! We don’t count the disrespect that was Shounen no Kyoukai

Anywho, these two also had great chemistry with each other. They’re more or less in sync during their mattress mambos, so I really wasn’t spazzing out during Smoky Nectar. I was thinking maybe I was asking for too much. 😂 Idk what to feel, knowing that this is Fatgum x Kirishima

In conclusion, get this. Get this if you’re a fan of the series and abo in general. And if you dislike abo like me, this still is worth getting if you’re an Okitsu/Massuu stan. If you want to see just what makes voice actors good, you’ll be in the right place. As for those who want to read the manga along with the BLCD, it is doable, but bear in mind that there is added and cut dialogue. I only have the magazine releases, and I’ve noticed that the narrations are rearranged, so do try buying the tank if you can (reading the Chrima release with it is doable too tho). Gosh, I really wish this wasn’t an abo lmao. Anyway, I’m afraid there aren’t a lot of gag abos like this out there, so I wouldn’t be able to recommend anything similar. Go Kashikomarimashita: Destiny and Re:birth for more Okitsu tho
