What do you think though? Do you like the rather dark origin story? And/or the ending I gave him?

Your headcanon for Merlin's origin story is really brutal. Can we give him a somewhat nicer end? I've had this headcanon for a while that a part of Merlin's conscience lives on in one of his artefacts, maybe a splinter of his staff, and Douxie turns that one into a seed and buries it. It grows into an oak and Merlin gets to live on peacefully as a tree. He watches some more eras come and go. And he learns to live in the moment. To just appreciate the present. He can't do anything anyway, since he's an immovable tree, you know. But it is there where he makes peace with himself.

This is the beginning of Emerald Embers, the main story from my Tales of Arcadia au series Daylight’s Redemption! It’s been in the making for a long time, so I’m really happy to finally have an opening scene!

Merlin Ambrosius paced in his study. Even though he’d been awake for a few hours, the damn vision was still at the forefront of his mind. Camelot actually being quiet for once wasn’t helping. The silence of night was only interrupted by the noises he was making. His breathing. His cape dragging on the floor. His boots softly thudding against the stone. It was maddening. After he’d woken, he had tried to work on the Amulet, but he couldn’t focus. So he paced. He’d seen it again. This was the eighth time now. That wasn’t worrying in the slightest. The main details never changed, at least. It showed Gwen dying. She fell into a stalkling’s nest. It… defended itself. Arthur started a massacre against the magical world because of his grief. He could only make a guess, but it seemed to happen about nineteen years from now. Arthur and Gwen looked to be in their forties, but Morgana still seemed to be in her thirties. She might’ve become immortal at some point. It never went far enough to show all the consequences before it ended, but he could very well imagine them.
