Once again rounds of applause and TEARS for @fenixethekid, my beloved RP partner & Elysium’s better half, who’s handling Tory & all dialogue in the orange bubbles. Tory continues to be one of the few people who can slip through EeL’s one million defenses, and indeed with him crumpled in his arms (AND HEAVILY HORMONAL LMAO???) we are witness to a rare moment of sincerity, a glimpse inside Loki’s quietly spiralling anxieties and insecurities,,

I liked this episode a lot and it has some things I want to ramble about haha so here we go. It's mostly about Takiyashamaru.

Taira His full name is Taira no Takiyashamaru, sometimes spelled Tairano Takiyashamaru in romanized text, but the "no" part is a particle, so his name in English would be like Takiyashamaru of Taira. Hence why the sign in front of his room reads "Taira" and not "Tairano". While Takiyashamaru's family background isn't expanded on within the franchise, the Taira surname is a famous one in Japan. The Taira (also known as the Heike, which might sound familiar if you know about Heike Monogatari) were one of the ruling clans in Japan during the Heian period. They eventually fell at the end of the Genpei war in the famous battle of Dan no ura, against their rival clan... the Minamoto. And then, Taira no Takiyashamaru and Minamoto Kingo ended up in the same committee.... uh oh.

That's not the only connection between Takiyashamaru and the historical Taira clan. Let's go a bit before the battle of Dan no Ura: a famous member of the Taira clan, Taira no Masakado, claims himself to be the new emperor and attempts a rebellion that ends in failure and in his death. The story, its aftermath and relevance nowadays is extremely interesting and I recommend looking into it! But what is relevant to us is how Masakado and his family entered folklore by being known as vengeful spirits. Most relevant to us is his daughter, Takiyashahime, who is said to have lived in seclusion in a ruined palace after her father's death, to practice magic and avenge her family.

You might be familiar with this painting by Utagawa, the figure of that giant skeleton is pretty iconic! This ukiyoe woodblock is known as Mitsukuni Defying the Skeleton Spectre Invoked by Princess Takiyasha. As said in the title, it depicts Takiyashahime summoning a giant skeleton specter, Gashadokuro, to defend herself against Mitsukuni, sent by the Emperor to find any surviving rebels.

By the way, we forgot to caption it, but the fan here reads "Taki". Takiyashamaru's name is spelled pretty much with the same characters as Takiyashahime. "Taki" means waterfall, "yasha" comes from yaksha, nature spirits that are benevolent protectors in Buddhism. if "hime" means princess, "maru" is a suffix used for young boys' names.

Oh wow. I wasn't sure how to translate "oya maa" in this episode, because as they explain, it can convey many different emotions. "Oh my" could have worked, but I wanted it to sound sarcastic/unimpressed too. So a flat "oh wow" it is. I find the idea of making star voice actor Akira Ishida coming to the studio to record "oh wow" twice in the mic and then leave hilarious. Oh wow indeed.

Senrin

A dharma wheel is shown here, but Kihachirou doesn't elaborate on it. The dharma is a symbol from India which is used by various cultures (it's even on the flag of romani people!) and religions, but what's relevant to us is that it has been imported in Japan along with Buddhism. It represents multiple concepts, including the sun, the passage of time, and the cycle of existence. It also signifies the power to turn the world and the propagation of Buddhist teachings. Siddharta Gautama (The Buddha, as in, the person you think of when Buddha is mentioned as a single person haha) had the opportunity to become a chakravartin, but chose to become a Buddha instead, which makes chakravartin the secular equivalent to a Buddha. As in, someone who reached worldly excellence (where a Buddha transcended it altogether). The dharma wheel of course relates to the chakram, a circular blade used in India for a long time, but starting from the Heian period, has been imported by Indian monks traveling to Japan. It's been renamed senrin (battle/war ring) or engetsurin (full moon ring) and has been used in... ninjutsu. And thus we've come full....Circle. ho ho ho.

Of course, I don't aim to give a complete history lecture (I wouldn't be able to!) so I'm speedrunning these explanations to keep them to the point and relevant to our beloved baby cartoon haha. By all means please look more into it! It's really interesting.

Anyways, this is just my opinion now but in Takiyashamaru and Kihachirou's relationship there's a beautiful back and forth between the extremely down to earth (literally!) and practical Kihachirou and Takiyashamaru, who likes to portray himself as above all mere mortals. Takiyashamaru sure does a lot of bragging, but on top of his grades, his name and choice of weapon imply he could very well be on the path to greatness for real, right? And then enters tsudoi to break my heart. Personally I find it lovely that Kihachirou can recognize all of this in Takiyashamaru. The episode ends with Takiyashamaru being able to put his ego aside to let Kihachirou indulges in what he loves to do, but it managed to convey how much esteem Kihachirou has for Takiyashamaru too! I really liked that and made me reconsider how I perceive Kihachirou a lot haha.

Takiyashamaru-senpai and Ayabe Kihachirou-senpai don’t get along despite being roommates, and they never listen to each other. But Tamura Mikiemon-senpai thinks these two are actually good friends, and he begins to tell the others 4th years about their past.

You mean Taquito? (Takuito actually doesn't mean anything in Spanish lol)

That's Taki actual name. He's just called Taki for short. If we shortened it to Taqui, that doesn't actually translate to anything in Spanish. Also, people would absolutely pronounce it wrong.

He's named Taquito after the food, since he's a food service bot. So if Fairy called him that, it would be because she was calling him by his full name, not because he's small.

Also, admittedly, Fairy wouldn't know to add something like that to the end of someone's name because she doesn't speak Spanish.

Hello all,

Today I finally completed my Panini sticker collection for the 2019/2020 season. Fulfilling a promise to my younger self that I would collect all of the stickers when Liverpool won the league. I started collecting during lockdown and, although childish, opening a few packs each week was something to look forward to during that time.

I believe the 2019/2020 season is the first premier league season where Panini have produced the stickers. I have fond memories of the Merlin sticker albums, particularly 2004/2005. Have to say I've been impressed with the quality of the Panini stickers.

Each sticker is printed with a fact on the back, I thought it would be fun to compile all of the facts for Liverpool stickers into one post here on Reddit. So here goes:

Liverpool FC Badge - Sticker 284 - "Famously breaking away from Everton in 1892, John Houlding was responsible for forming Liverpool FC"
