Born just after midnight on November 19th, (💞making him the Elysium’verse’s VERY FIRST Scorpio yaayyyy💞) at VERY long last + one billion comics later, Loki & his PARTNERS welcomed their son, Røkia, into their arms weighing in at…. Too big and roughly the shape of a wiggly potato. and we (Loki, Maci…… me) are all BAWLING ABOUT IT and ohh hh my ggGODDDD IVE BEEN SO EXCITED TO SHARE HIM WITH YYYOUUU

His name is pronounced “RRUHK-ya,” be sure to roll the R and say it really fast bc it’s more fun that way. (Loki’s a brat and there was zero chance this baby wasn’t getting a Norse name, an argument Maci didn’t even bother to waste breath on lmao)

I’ve been sitting on these drawings for practically the entire year, plus more!!! that I’ll share during the week!!! but I held off on drawing in advance anything FROM Røkia’s actual birth bc who knew how that was going to go. As it was, the event was a rollercoaster— the bulk of this Drama Update beyond the babie is actually text based! Highlights from this night in Elysium— As follows behind the cut!!

• a massive oversight in failing to discuss with EeL any birth plans ahead of time so huge argument ensued when EeL tried to shove Maci and Tory away to gIVE BIRTH BY HIMSELF LIKE HES APPARENTLY DONE EVERY OTHER TIME??? AAUGHHHHHHH????????

• Him conceding and admitting that he. Simply. Wasn’t expecting them to WANT to stay and was caught off guard by the intimacy of it, admitting using Very Good honest communication skills that he lashes out when he’s emotionally overwhelmed (“YEAH WE NOTICED”)

• also. Maci trying to call his bluff on giving birth alone seven times wtf no way. EeL admitting it’s “not for lack of trying from previous partners, they just weren’t as argumentative as the two of you are.” ;fgkfkf.

• so, hurdle crossed! ….then Hurdle IMMEDIATELY faced again when Maci & Tory try to call in midwife Hecate to help him which caused ANOTHER huge and weepier argument which EeL ALSO eventually conceded to. “I’ve always done it myself,” he sobs, in a panic. “Sweetheart you don’t HAVE to 🥺🥺” aahHhhGh

• (also. a choice quote from Maci: “We’ve already established we’re not letting you give birth alone like a sick cat again.” gOd)

• okay everyone gets to stay. Next, Loki using the word “atwain” sincerely in a sentence, Tory laughing in his face about it

•FINALLY Røkia iS BORN AND HE’S SO SQUEAKY AND MEWLY. THIS IS A KITTEN WITH SCALES 🥺🥺🥺 and immediately they’re all in love with him and oh my GOD he’s huge. Tory and Maci respectively cooing— “oh, he’s a chonkster” “oh my god he looks like a potato” — Loki is thankfully starry eyed at THE BABY and DOES NOT HEAR THEM SAY THIS which Maci points out is a bulllet dodged cause he’d kill ‘em ffFGFFK

• like I said last night while I was in lEGIT tears lmfaooo um!! 🥹 Tory realizing that yeah “EeL’s entire everything created an entire dragon” but now he’s HERE and— Røkia’s got Tory’s colors. and him and Maci just going 🥺🥺 that’s right Tory’s in there too

• mush mush mush oh my god oh my god. Trying to get Loki to relax - we’re here we’ll take care of him. It’s okay, we’ve got him. We’ve got you. Maci insisting EeL get some rest— dazed and vulnerable, immediately blowing his standoffish cover for the evening by a weepy plea for them not to go, not to leave him.

• we’re not going anywhere, says Tory; we’re staying right here, says Maci. clinging to him. You made a perfect baby, you did such a good job, we’re so proud of you, says Maci, now get some rest.

• I love you, says Loki. IT’S THE FIRST TIME HE’S EVER SAID IT TO MACI.

in an attempt to quell increasing hostility towards the company, ZA/UM has released Disco Elysium: The Full Uncut, an update where an additional clothing slot is created for underwear, allowing it to be equipped and unequipped at will, letting Harry's flaccid hog flop around in the breeze. Rather than paying the original voice actors, AI technology has been used for new lines, such as Cuno's suidae, "What the fuck? Pig's got his hog out! Pig's gonna be bacon if he gets any closer!" and Kim Kitsuragi's, "Officer, put your dick away, officer. I'm not having sex with you right now, officer."

A new thought is available in the thought cabinet called Grafficio, which allows the player to view penis-themed graffito throughout the world. The thought is triggered by walking around entirely nude for 3 in-game days. Not compatible with the Hideous Neck Tie. New underwear items can be found by digging around in various containers, including a pair of ceramic boxers under Klassje's bed. All underwear decreases electrochemistry by at least one point, sometimes two. Positive effects can include endurance, pain threshold, composure, drama, and empathy.

The next two hours, 5 and 6, are combined, showing a laptop open to an Audacity project with the waveform and spectrogram both displayed and a headphone cord plugged in. This is labeled "editing Disco Elysium podfic." Next to the computer is a fancy mug labeled "spicy hot chocolate." The next panel includes both 7:00 and 8:00pm. Back to 2021, Elijah suffered from the final stage of cancer. He hoped Chloe could save him. And she did. rA9 theory in this comic is my own opinion. Everything in this story is headcanon, which didn't happen in the game.

From the get go pregnancy symptoms have been weird. Too big too fast, flickering magic - now this fever mentioned prev??? , but EeL’s cagey about his kids and hasn’t let anyone assess WHY it’s been weird. Childbirth and Witchcraft goddess Hecate is one of Elysium’s go-to midwives and… someone Loki dislikes for no reason fgkfkg so even though she COULD have assessed from day 1 - he’s refused. But now given the previous drama, (yknow - EeL’s poof and reappearance) maybe it’s finally time to put everyone’s concerns to rest. Well, Hecate (Mother™ Edition) is promptly called, and—

2021 In Writing

I saw this event by @ecwrenn​ and it seemed like a pretty good excuse to sit down and process what has felt like a very weak creative year and actually crunch some numbers to test that theory.

As of today (December 28th) during 2021 I have written 410,965 words including drafts, editing and discarded material. This is significantly above my goal of 300,000! I’m very happy about that. On average I was able to write approximately three weeks in every month, but my longest streak of writing was 41 consecutive days. February was my most productive month at 56656 words and September was my weakest at 15987.

@holybikinisbatman​ also kindly put together a really neat little program for recording how much I write over the month which has been really useful for seeing where my ups and downs are.

Work-related burnout did put a huge dint in my progress following the summer. All my projects stalled very severely and my average words per month. I was able to switch to a less terrible, lower-hours job in order to make writing my priority, but it turns out that the psychological exhaustion of working in health and social care during a pandemic doesn’t disappear overnight. I’m still trying to get into the rhythm of doing anything at all that’s just for me and not for work.

I was inspired a lot by anthologies like “The Dangers of Smoking in Bed”, “Bloodchild”, and “Friday Black” as well as Clive Barkers “Books of Blood.” I also continued to keep up my reading on theory with some academic texts. Games like Disco Elysium and Inscryption also added a lot to the mill this year. I really think I have a better grasp on the kind of work I want to write: weird uncomfortable queer shit.

My wips suffered the most visibly for the burnout. I don’t think the quality has dropped because I still edit very stringently, but I haven’t had time to put enough care into them to meet that standard so updates have been slow over autumn and winter. The problem with an intensive style of long drafts and repeated editing is that it takes time and care and it’s frustrating when I have to sacrifice speed for satisfaction over quality. That said: People really seem to like all three? So maybe it’s fine?

Being No One, Going Nowhere had the most complex work done on it. A lot of tricky chapters I was really worried about executing that only got worse as I started to really second-guess everything I was writing in the tail end of ‘21. It’s still consistently well-received and getting new readers which is frankly inexplicable to me. People are consuming hundreds of thousands of words at a speed that I find humbling and alarming. Overall I think the transition from for want of a nail fic with some silly jokes to drama metacommentary with some silly jokes is going Okay. Even if I wish I could have written more of it I have finished the second act and I don’t see any situation bar death or disaster where it doesn’t either finish or mostly finish next year. But... there are also a few works in the series I would like to get done as well, including one that’s going to be just, just a huge bastard.

The Comrade’s Song is still my weird ugly peculiar child that appeals only to very specific people of very particular tastes (affectionate). It’s always been the one I work on at a more lazy pace so it by far has suffered the most for my burnout. That said, the reason I have never worried too much about updating it religiously is because it is something people are either going to like a lot or bounce off of. I am hoping to get one more chapter of it out before the new year because it deserves some love. There should be no reason this one doesn’t get done in 2022.

I Think We’re Alone Now exists entirely as a labour of love in more ways than one. If I had accurately estimated how deep in the weeds of it I would get while writing it would be done by now, but, unfortunately, Ideas Happen. I am simply not capable of making simple little stories any more, I think. If you can’t take a funny little fluffy joke and season it liberally with dread and anxiety then what is even the point? I would probably feel guilty about stretching out a gift fic this long if I were not quite sure the recipient does not mind, and at the end of the day this particular fic only needs to be good enough for exactly two people. But other people seem to like it, too, and that’s a nice bonus. 2022 should be the completion date for this one, too, and sooner rather than later.

All three wips also got fanart this year, which is still something I have difficulty grasping. I do not know how to process that kind of investment in the things I make but it’s all so pretty. I can’t cope in the slightest. I still have them open in tabs for moral support, and this has been a year when I really needed the moral support.

I got out a lot more oneshots this year than I thought I had before writing this post. Access: Authorised gets bonus points for being my first fic in a different fandom and I am really proud of how the voices came out. I watched a Lot of Star Trek this year and I feel pretty confident with how I translated it, and writing trans stuff is always a fun time.

I won’t go through all the oneshots I did this year, but Prelude was my shortest complete work at 506 words. As an experiment in dialogue-only fic I’m pretty pleased with it and I think it’s pretty effective with the length that it is. The Compromise was my longest at 10,415 words and it might legitimately be the best short story I have ever written. It does everything I set out to do with it and it’s a type of horror writing I hadn’t really dabbled in before. I think it stands alone really well and with some work I’d really like to try expanding the core concept to something original and novel-length.

In general I would like to spend the next year years writing more original stuff and looking into pro publishing. I don’t know if I’ll ever stop writing fanfic altogether because it’s just really fun and I like entertaining people and exploring existing worlds, but at this point I have had enough positive feedback on my writing as a whole that I think I could make some original things people really like, too. Original characters have always been a weakness, but over the past few years I have overcome a Lot of weaknesses I had assumed were just inherent to my writing. I have a couple of ideas for original short fiction as well, but that’s more a question of deciding where the best place to post them would be.

All in all I felt pretty bad about my output this year and that’s very silly when I lay everything out like this? For a Bad Year this looks like a lot more work than some people do on their best years, and I need to stop being so ridiculously prone to moving the goalposts on myself. In general I am really proud of the stuff I have managed to put out and I think the quality is consistently a strong reflection of the effort I put into it. My method of sprinting the first draft and then repeatedly editing might be intensive and slow but I am happy with the results; I think for me it’s worth the work. Going forward I would really be happy to keep up what I have, for the most part, been doing. Writing consistently, getting the work out, trying new stuff. I would love to break 400k again next year, but I think I am going to keep the target at a “low” 300k and just concentrate on getting that hit reliably. I think giving myself loose and reasonable targets to meet month-to-month in terms of updates would be a good idea. Not strict enough for me to panic over, just enough to keep me focussing on putting stuff out at a comfortable pace.

I need to do a lot of work on getting into a good headspace in general because at the moment stress is really putting a wrench in my doing anything for fun at all, so I am also going to try to do some more work on my mental health. I can’t be a good writer if I can sit down and enjoy a good book or game or in general relax and feed new ideas into the brain-mill.

i can't do tidbits about them young, but I will give some general info on older if you'd like.

Zagreus eventually gets into marketing for the hotel after everything is said and done and helps boost business immensely. He has an on and off again relationship with Meg throughout his teenage and young adult years. Dusa is an extremely good friend who he eventually loses Meg to. Nobody is upset about this.

A small part in why Zag has his final 'escape' is that he confesses to Thanatos he has feelings for him, who has a relatively negative reaction to it at the time as Zagreus is 17 and Than is 22. It's not the only reason he decides to run away a few months later, but it definitely aids in his decision when Than grows extremely distant afterwards.

Than's eventual career is an overnight RN at a hospice in Elysium. He works there 3-4 nights a week and is generally seen as having a relatively good bedside manner for people who are dying.

Than and Zag take a while to work out their dumb shit. As aforementioned, Than talks to Hermes about feelings when Zag comes back a few years later. And there's a lot of circle talking between Than and Zag for like...four years...before reconcile their kind of strange upbringing and get together. Neither Nyx nor Hades care nearly as much as they think they will.

Hypnos has a normal fucking life and is the most chill motherfucker and escapes all this drama between his brother and not-brother, so good on him. After high school, which he barely passes, he does odd jobs when places need him, like front desk clerk at the hotel or working at Charon's shop. His narcolepsy and cataplexy can get in the way of having a normal schedule, and Than kind of hovers around even in his adult life, cause he worries in his own way. Its part of why he chooses the specific night shifts he did so he can spend more time at home. Hypnos doesn't mind, god bless him.

Nyx is often disappointed in Hypnos in comparison to her other children as he seems to have no more ambition than being a homebody and doing these smalls jobs but he eventually starts looking over the family finances and takes over as the bookkeeper for both the manor and the hotel as business grows. He does a good job but they just have to put up with getting finished reports and updated ledgers at 3 in the morning.

He also probably gets into woodcarving or painting at some point. seems like the kind of guy

Fic Writer Questions!

Tagged by @posingasme - seeing as my last fic was posted in 2016, thank you for still thinking of me!

1) How many works do you have on AO3? 5 little fics, and a sixth one I sadly never finished

2) What's your total AO3 word count? a humble 5758 words

3) How many fandoms have you written for and what are they? I started with Spernatural, then stumbled my way into the phandom, and I did one little Merlin crossover. (If I ever start writing again, it will probably be for audio drama's/fiction podcasts tho...)

4) What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

1) Of Hidden Memories and Kitchen Adventures - Phandom/Merlin Crossover. I just thought that Phil Lester and Colin Morgan looked similar enough to warrant a reincarnation fic.

2) Made by Gabriel - Supernatural. A fluffy little fic where the young archangels all get to create an animal. So of course they all try to outdo each other.

3) Couples Yoga Challenge - Phandom. Sweet, short and fluffy. The title says it all, really.

4)Temporary Bliss - Supernatural. Angsty and raw. Basically, I wrote a fic about Dean's internalized homophobia before I even knew what those words mean. (Started as a songfic with lyrics from temporary bliss by The Cab, but later I deleted the song quotes)

5) Tale of a Vessel - Supernatural. After the Jimmy Novak episode, all I could think about was how it must feel to be one. So this one is Jimmy getting a bit of a break from Cas and taking some time to reflect.

5) Do you respond to comments, why or why not? I always try, but sometimes I got a little overwhelmed with attention and didn't know what to say. But all comments are super appreciated and sometimes I'm just staring happily at the screen. Every notification brings a smile on my face!

6) What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending? Oof, definitely Temporary Bliss, that fic is just a heap of emotional turmoil wrapped in a little bow. Fun fact, Elysian would have the most angsty ending, but that's the one I never finished...

7) What's the fic you've written with the happiest ending? Either Couples Yoga challenge or Made by Gabriel. The first one is just happy people in a happy relationship living their own happy life. Made by Gabriel is definitely very fluffy and adorable.

8) Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you've written? Just the Phandom/Merlin one! But I think that's a pretty rare combination ;)

9) Have you ever received hate on a fic? No, I've been very fortunate in that way. Only on ff.net, a little warning against copywrite that made me delete some of the song-quotes in Temporary Bliss and one little harsh but well-meaning comment on Elysian that if I didn't update, people would stop reading. But nothing that I would call "hate".

10) Do you write smut? If so what kind? Oh no, I don't trust my writing abilities enough for that. I think there's an art to writing a good smut-scene and it's one I haven't mastered

11) Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I know of.

12) Have you ever had a fic translated? Yes! Someone translated Made by Gabriel into Russian! Sometimes I google-translate the comments there and it's so lovely to read. (I'm very okay with translating, as long as you ask first and properly credit and stuff)

13) Have you ever co-written a fic before? No, I haven't.

14) What's your all time favorite ship? That's the hardest question of the list! I don't think I have an all-time favorite, it changes too much! Whenever I stop watching a show I also tend to stop reading fic for it. sastiel and sabriel were definitely long-time faves, so were Dan&Phil. Right now I'm very into non-romantic queerplatonic Sammy and Ben from the podcast King Falls AM.

15) What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will? Elysium, definitely Elysium. I had so much of that story planned out, and then I lost all my notes for it. Accidentally deleted and never found again. It completely crushed my enthusiasm and I never finished it. It was supposed to be a five-chaptered story. A prologue, and then the four episodes that featured Gabriel (Tall Tales, Mystery Spot, Changing Channels and Hammer of the Gods) from his point of view, interspersed with flashbacks of his time in heaven, with his brothers, and his time under the apprenticeship of actual norse-god Loki before Gabriel became a trickster himself. It was supposed to end with his death at the hands of Lucifer in season 5.

16) What are your writing strengths? Short fluffy stuff and I also like a bit of introspection, mostly with Temporary Bliss and Tale of a Vessel. Just kinda crawl in a characters head for a little bit. Also, not necessarily a writing strength, but I'm very proud that I write them in English even tho it's not my first language.

17) What are your writing weaknesses? Planning/writing long fics. And dialogue. I find it so hard to get the voice right.

18) What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic? I haven't tried, but I always like it when I read it. Especially when the character isn't American/English. Makes it feel more real :)

19) What was the first fandom you wrote for? Supernatural! It's the fandom that made me start a tumblr.

20) What's your favorite fic you've written? Made by Gabriel. It's cute, it's fun, it's the first one I've ever written and I'm still very proud of it.
