It's like they are given the most blatant answer to a character romantic orientation and they actively ignore it. all the while all it takes is subtext for people to speak as if it is fact for a character to be any other sexuality.

We always talk about how jegulus is like the sun and star, how wolfstar is like the moon and star but what about rosekiller

Rosekiller is like lightening and thunder

Barty (Lightening) is showy, bright, illuminating, always visible and dramatic, lights up the earth, always looking for a fight and not subtle at all

Whereas Evan (Thunder) is subtle but also very scary, is not always visible, shakes the earth, is the most peaceful until he's not, a subtle but ever present threat. Definitely the more threatening amongst the two

While most ships have complimenting but at the same time quite contrasting symbols, rosekiller has pretty similar ones (in my opinion) BCOZ AT THE END OF THE DAY THEY R JUST TWO PSYCHO BSFs IN LOVE WHO MATCH EACH OTHER'S FREAK

The relationship scar and grian had in 3rd life was so tragic in the same way that it's tragic how people would be looked down on for loving the same gender. When just the act of loving is looked down on.

In the life series, after 3rd life, being friends with red names was very taboo. In 3rd life, grian and scar stayed friends, martyn and ren as well. They were like the beginning when things were fresh and new. No standards felt very enforced but as the series continued, especially in last life, the red names were completely cut off from the rest.

As the series continued, being outcast for being on red or betraying your team was less common and eventually wasn't a thing at all. Even when red, alliances stayed together. Alliances feel a lot more stable and trusting as well.

It's like how in the past, same gender relationships were completely out of the question but as times went by, it became more accepted and recognized as normal. Desert duo in 3rd life was like 2 lovers who were able to exist together but only in secret.

If desert duo were able to have taken place in a newer series, there wouldn't be a betrayal at the end. Scar wouldn't need a ‘don't kill pass’ to protect his teammate without being ‘frowned on’. There may still be a cactus fight to ultimately determine the winner but no feelings of betrayal would have to be present.

If they were in a newer series, a more modern time, there wouldn't need to be excuses to be each other's friend. There wouldn't be a need to feel scared that your teammate is a red because you know theyre a red on your side.

The way both Charles and Edwin bring each other light in the form of the lantern in the darkest times but both times they end up pushing the lantern aside to choose each other instead.

Edwin only meant to bring Charles the lantern when he was dying but him being able to see him made him stay at least until he passed on, but then Charles was the one who wouldn't let him leave and picked staying with Edwin over the light.

Charles brings the lantern to Hell to save Edwin, ends up putting it down as he needs both hands to hold Edwin's face and then when they both run they leave the lantern behind because as symbolic as it is, it doesn't really matter at all in comparison to each other. And they have each other now.
