Nine finishes the upgrades and places away his tools before getting up with a stretch, groaning as his joints make a satisfying crack. Holding back a yawn, he moves to head out of the workshop, whisking a folded blanket from his bunk without looking.

As he passes an occupied chair, he drapes the blanket over Tails who nodded off while working on his computer and slightly shifts the keyboard to finish up the text file of a code his brother had been compiling and save it before shutting down the computer and proceeding to head out.

No he doesn't care. He just doesn't want to deal with a tired, cranky Tails come morning. That is the only reason, he keeps telling himself.

Since no one asked: (one of) my headcanon(s) about what happens to Nine post-sonic prime

Nine is left with enough prism energy from his (ab)use of the prism that he can teleport between shatterspaces. At first he uses this ability to collect resources for the Grim by taking them from the other shatterspaces and he's very careful that no one sees him. He eventually starts going on missions for the various shatterverse inhabitants in trade for harder to find resources, still being careful not to reveal who exactly he is. People eventually become suspicious though, especially in New Yoke, and Nine is soon confronted by the Resistance. They are a lot more apologetic to Nine since they've had time to consider his past, and Nine is just regretful enough that he isn't mad at them, and make an agreement that they will help each other.

With time this eventually leads Nine to visit the other shatterspaces and become more friendly with the people in them too. He introduces himself to Sonic and his friends last, since he's still feels very guilty about everything (i.e. Sonic nearly shattering). But when he does visit Sonic, Sonic is absolutely floored (positive) to see him and Nine is relived to see that Sonic is alright. Sonic obviously offers Nine to stay in Green Hill, which he partially accepts.

Ultimately Nine doesn't actually stay in one shatterspace the majority of the time, though he is more usually found in New Yoke (helping the Resistance), Green Hill (probably where his new primary workshop is), or the Grim (his workshop for more dangerous stuff and for when he doesn't want to be interrupted at all). He generally works on shatterverse-related tech and stuff Tails doesn't (because they would clash often and kill each other otherwise I think). And ofc since he is (for now) the only one who can teleport between shatterspaces he as acts as a messenger.

Nine's younger brothers being the only ones Nine has never used the 'intimidation by gaining height using his spider tails' factor on because he sees himself in them and realizes that they mean well, they're not like the New Yolkers, they understand him and mean no harm.

Anyways, Nine standing at his normal height when surrounded by his brothers, being an equal to someone and not feeling small during it, Nine actually looking and acting his age, Nine getting hit with the 'I can fly and gain height on you mf' that would have the exact same smug energy if he actually ever tries the spider tails trick to gain height on Tails, Sails or Mangey
