Happy Tuesday (Wednesday now!) Thanks for the ask! Wow, that's quite the question! Back when the Reddit Ao3 board was still a thing, I used to see questions like this a lot from people wondering whether Ao3 is a good place to post your original fiction. And my answer is always an overwhelming YES, with a few caveats.

My journey posting original fic on Ao3 has been overwhelmingly positive; the response has been beyond my wildest dreams, considering I only started posting Good Slaves Never Break the Rules as an experiment to see if anyone would read it. Over 3,000 hits may not sound like a lot when compared to fanfics from huge fandoms and popular pairings, but for original fiction, it is. And part of the beauty of Ao3 (as opposed to some other sites :cough: Wattpad) it has no algorithm that insists on only showing you what IT wants you to read instead of what YOU want to read. Thanks to the tagging and search system, everyone has an equal chance to be seen, and you almost certainly WILL get readers no matter what. Furthermore, some of my favorite fiction I've found in recent years has been original fiction I found on Ao3. There's great stuff out there!

You'll sometimes see people try to argue that original fiction goes against the Ao3 terms of service. Do NOT listen to these people. The ToS explicitly allows original works that are "fannish in nature," but the ToS also doesn't specify what makes a work "fannish in nature," which essentially means that they're leaving it up to you to determine that. In other words, you CANNOT be reported or kicked off the site for posting original fiction, as long as you're not violating any other part of the ToS. I feel like that's very important, because as writers we tend to stress about this kind of thing unnecessarily.

That said, Ao3 is, and will always remain a fanfic-focused site. For a writer of original fiction who obviously wants eyeballs on their work, that means that you have to keep in mind that the audience will largely be looking for the same tropes they look for in fanfic. (And of course, just as in fanfic, porn without plot tends to get the most hits of all [although surprisingly few comments], but for the sake of this post, I'll assume you're not writing porn and are writing standard fiction, whether or not it includes spicy scenes).

For example, GSNBTR, is a romance with slavery, whump, hurt/comfort, smut, angst, and pining/idiots in love, which are all tropes that show up frequently in fanfic and tend to be fairly popular there. That means that if readers are searching for those tropes in general and not in any particular fandom (which they do more often than you would think!), they'll come across my work. If your work doesn't have popular fanfic tropes (or doesn't mention them in the tags), it will be at a slight disadvantage, but it doesn't mean you're doomed. (If I'd included a tag like, say, BDSM, I'd probably have 10 times the hits I currently do😬). That's just simply the nature of the site. People are looking for certain things and they reward writers who give them those things.

So my first caveat is that if you're writing romance, Ao3 is THE best place to post your work if you want the best chance of finding an audience. However, if your story is fantasy or sci-fi and contains no romance or isn't focused on romance, you may want to check out another site like Royal Road, which is more focused on those genres and has a slightly different audience (I've read that the audience there skews male whereas Ao3 skews female, which would make a lot of sense). RR also has the added advantage that it allows you to monetize your work if that's something that interests you, whereas Ao3 (understandably given its fanfic focus) disallows that.

My second caveat concerns tagging. I gave myself a further advantage by learning how the Ao3 tagging system worked and using it effectively. That means tagging using standardized tags (many of the most popular of which can be found on this page), tagging using terms that people might actually search for, and not rambling in the tags (which just makes your tags harder to parse and doesn't help more people find your work). You can do this even if your work doesn't contain a lot of the most popular tags!

Thanks so much for the question, and I really hope this monster of answer helps! A good portion of what I currently read is original fic I found on Ao3, and for that reason, I think the site needs more, not less! Good luck with your journey!

What scenes do you find the hardest to write?

Sometimes spicy scenes are the hardest to write because well, you have to be in the mood for that! Other times scenes that require a lot of description to set the scene I don't find particularly fun, and usually, I save that type of writing for last (I think dialogue is the most fun, so I usually write that first!) Or sometimes, scenes I really WANT to write but I'm unsure whether I'll be able to pull it off, so I procrastinate. It depends on my mood!

enemies to lovers or best friends to lovers I used to absolutely despise enemies to lovers, but now I've fallen down that rabbit hole. I do love best friends to lovers, but I'd probably pick a well-written enemies to lovers.

oh no there’s only one bed or long-distance correspondence Oh no there's only one bed. It's one of my favorite tropes.

hurt/comfort or amnesia While I love a well-written amnesia, I would be more inclined to pick a hurt/comfort.

fantasy au or modern au Modern AU. Not a huge fan of fantasy AU.

mutual pining or domestic bliss See the first question; I love immediate gratification. So domestic bliss.

smut or fluff Fluff. I can get bored of smut quicker than I get bored of fluff. (Not to say I can't enjoy smut. I play plenty of sluts.)

canon-compliant or fix-it Depends on the source material, 100%. Some things I absolutely love canon compliance for, some I desperately need a fix-it for.

reincarnation or character death Reincarnation. I'm a little bitch and I cry easily. I can't kill my darlings.

kid fic or road trip fic Road trip fic. I fucking hate kids. While I have some muses that like kids, I will avoid playing it as much as possible.

arranged marriage or accidental marriage Not really a fan of either, tbh.

college romance or middle-aged College age, probably because I relate more to it.

romance time travel or isolated together Isolated together. Time travel kinda blurs into fantasy, which I don't love, unless it's fandom specific.

neighbors or roommates Roommates.

sci-fi au or magic au Depends on what kind of magic. Clearly I like some supernatural aspects, since I have an AU verse of Niragi as a vampire. But I'm pretty picky. I'm not a huge fan of sci-fi period.

angst or crack Varies on the ship and my mood. But mostly crack.

apocalyptic or mundane Mundane is easier for me to write, since it's more familiar.

Hi everyone! I'm Mandarin/Grungepo/Ferret and this is my corner of the internet for goofy ramblings! I'm a bit all over the place (perks of being neurodivergent lol), but I'll try to keep this as brief as possible:

Hey Steph! Any advice to a person on reader's block? I wanna read a lot of fanfics, but I'm like... stuck :/

Honestly? For me I either switch fandoms or go back to old favourite fics. That's it. That's why I read SO many alternate fandom fics the past couple years, simply because reading Sherlock fics, for me, felt like a chore for awhile since I have to keep meticulous track of what's in a story and how it will be filed on my blog rather than enjoy the content of the story first-time-around. It seems to have gotten better now that I took a bit of a semi-hiatus from NEW Johnlock fics, but honestly, for me, swapping fandoms OR re-reading an old fic takes away that obligation / job of fic filing, for ME.

For you, it just might be fandom fatigue, so going back to some old stuff you KNOW you enjoyed, or fics for fandoms that you really like but never thought about reading more about is exciting. NOW I'm NOT implying that the current fandom you're reading in just suddenly got bad, NO, not at all!! I LOVE and adore all our fandom authors. But sometimes immersing yourself in a different setting HELPS.

For instance, the past two years I've been alternating between Johnlock and MCU/Sci-Fi/Fantasy fandoms, with different characters and relationships with their own dynamic that's ALMOST-BUT-NOT-QUITE Johnlockian. For ME, reading a new Johnlock fic IS a job, BECAUSE I have to file it at the end, and it's easier for me to tag-as-I-go. Then I swap over to a Red Dwarf fic with a whole different universe.

AS I SAID, it's completely different for me, and I HAVE to take the break between new fics so I don't get burnt out again. Sometimes I'll re-read a recently read fic and really enjoy it, able to take it all in. But yeah, in all my years doing this, my advice is this if you're having reading burnout or reader's block:

Take a break, eat, and do some other mind-engaging stuff instead, like puzzles. I love doing Fill-In Puzzles.

Swap fandoms, maybe go back to one you enjoyed as a kid, or are lurking on the outskirts in. After, try reading the fandom you primarily stick to again, and if it's not hitting you yet, go back to another fandom. YOU ARE NOT FORCED TO STAY IN ONE FANDOM. I had a hard time accepting this, LOL. I felt like I was betraying my Lovelies by reading other fandoms, but now it only helps me reset my brain for a new fic :)

Try reading a published work! Go to your local library and just see what they have, and check out a book. Sometimes there's a LOT of joy in just... reading from a physical book.

Re-read a fic you know you love. I do this a lot, and ALWAYS have, as "palate cleansers" between stories. For me, if I read too many new fics in a row, I get the plot lines confused, so re-reading a fic helps my brain sub-consciously process the last story I read. You'd be surprised how much this helps.

If you're not enjoying a fic, stop reading it, and read an old fave. Fiction is subjective, and not everyone is going to enjoy the same things. I used to force my way through fics I knew I wasn't even going to bookmark, and one day I just finally said "why? this story is upsetting me". Again, "cleanse the palate" with an old fave to reset the brain, and start again with something else.

And finally, it's OKAY if you just simply lost interest in reading. Your brain needs resetting sometimes, and just... if it takes days, months or years to get back into it, it's OKAY. I know what it's like to REALLY want to read something, but not being physically able to do it. Take a week off of reading, and get back into it. In my case I just listen to music instead since most of my reading is done either in bed or on the bus, so yeah, just a total zone-out for a week is all you may need.

I hope this helps a little bit, and I'm sorry if it doesn't. If anyone has any of their own tips to breaking that reading block, let me know! <3

1. Why did you choose your url?

I wanted to make a Star Wars blog and I also wanted to show that I was a big fan of the old pre-mouse EU. So I took my favorite EU character, Tahiri Veila, and played around with her experiences to make my url. During the New Jedi Order book series, Tahiri was experimented on by Yuuzhan Vong and an artificial personality, Riina of Domain Kwaad, was created in her mind. I simply replaced the name Riina with my own internet handle Raven and got Raven of Domain Kwaad.

2. Any sideblogs?

This is technically a sideblog actually.

Main is @the-raven-of-highever which is mainly Dragon Age stuff

I also have @ssv-raven which is a mess of Mass Effect, sci-fi, fantasy and other assorted nonsense

I think it was 2014 when I first got onto tumblr

4. Why did you originally start your blog?

Originally I made my main for the Assassin’s Creed fandom. Oh boy was I obsessed with AC. Fell hard in love with the Kenway family and Ratonhnhaké:ton / Connor in particular. I was sad when the tumblr fandom just sort of fizzled away and died after being such a fun and big group that I really liked.

5. Why did you choose your icon?

@palepinkycat gave me that incredible piece of my OC Amarra Kine for my birthday and I was immediately head over heels in love with how it looked. I just had to make it my icon so I could always admire it.

6. Why did you choose your header?

That was another @palepinkycat piece actually and my very first commission. It is of my OC sisters Ryscha and Amarra Kine. They are the main focus of my SWTOR canon so I figured it was appropriate to put them up there as my header.

This one which I made as a joke after the Echoes of Oblivion trailer came out. Just a silly bit about how Knights and Warriors must be very sick of the Emperor by that point.

8. How many mutuals do you have?

Not a clue. I know I have a number of SWTOR mutuals though

9. How many followers do you have?

115... now excuse me as I go and listen to the song of the same name from CoD Black Ops Zombies lol

200 but a lot of those haven’t posted in years. Lots of old Assassin’s Creed, Overwatch and trans fem blogs that got lost or just stopped posting after the various fandoms died and the porn ban cracked down on people.

Uh... lots. Though in my defense it is my only form of social media. Never had a facebook, twitter or anything else and it is probably going to stay that way.

You know how after watching commercials you are filled with the desire to actively avoid the product being advertised? Yeah that is generally what happens to me with those “need to reblog” things. Like buddy I have come to tumblr to unplug from all the atrocities that are happening in the world. You telling me I need to focus on this makes me want to actively ignore it.

I do! They are fun and I enjoy reading the answers that other people give.

Definitely. I don’t always answer the asks in a timely manner but I do love writing about my OCs

Funny story. My partner and I actually met because we were tumblr mutuals. We were both in the Mass Effect fandom and just started DMing each other about our OCs. Started playing Mass Effect 3 online matches together and eventually decided to try out a long distant relationship. It worked and we’ve been living together for five ish years now.

Don’t currently have any crushes on any mutuals but my partner and I are poly so who knows what may happen in the future lol

Did you grow up with TKK or are you new to the series?

I have never seen a single Karate Kid movie in my entire life. When I was a kid, it looked kinda dumb so I never got into it XD But then I saw my roommate watching Cobra Kai on Youtube Red one day (he has every streaming service known to man) and I was hooked. And...here I am!

And how Demetri was willing to forgive him for everything at the drop of a hat because he always had faith there was still good in his best friend??? That’s TRUE LOVE motherfuckers. Please let them kiss in Season 4. I will sell you all of my limbs. Sam/Miguel is a close second because they’re cute as shit and it’s just so lovely to see two people so unapologetically smitten with each other. They are in LOVE, and I will RIOT if they break up again!!! Keep Sam and Miguel together 2k21!!!

Underrated character:

SAMANTHA LARUSSO!!! The amount of hate my girl gets for acting like a normal teenager and fucking up occasionally JUST like the rest of the cast makes me want to start punching things. She cares SO MUCH about her friends!!! And she loves the shit out of Miguel!!! She hasn’t always been the best friend but you know what??? Neither has Hawk, and we still forgave his ass!!! Also LET HER BE FEMININE but also kick utter ass, my god!!! Femininity should not be synonymous with being weak, y’all! ALSO DEMETRI, like yes, he likes to complain and occasionally run his mouth, but guess what else he likes to do??? Never give up on the love of his life his best friend Eli Moskowitz and refuse to lose faith in him no matter how much of a little shit he’s become, and I for one think that’s very badass of him. Also the way he takes care of Eli pre-Cobra Kai in his own snarky bastard way makes me absolutely Weak and needs more appreciation. Like the dude has charisma and COULD have probably made other friends and left Eli behind if he wanted, but did he??? No, he wants the weepy loser with the lip scar in the polo shirts and dorky sweaters and will protect him as much as his wimpy ass is able!!!

Underrated ship (don’t say therapy, lol):  

Among the adults, Daniel/Amanda!!! Like maybe I just don’t watch that much tv, but it seems kinda rare to me to see a happily married hetero couple, and it’s just nice to see a married couple who genuinely love each other and where there’s not like...lingering resentment or some shit. I feel like this ship gets overshadowed by Lawrusso a lot (which like--okay, fair!!! Daniel and Johnny do have a ridiculous amount of chemistry, and the gay undertones are undeniable, so I get it), and it makes me kinda sad. I do love Lawrusso, but I don’t like when Amanda has to get her heart broke for it to happen, you feel? Among the kids, honestly YasMoon. Like I really love the idea of Yasmine trying to better herself because of Moon’s influence on her and because Moon like...inspires her to be a better person, I guess? With their pretty strong friendship, it just makes more sense to me for Yasmine to get a redemption arc through Moon than through Demetri. ALSO girls DO often pull the whole “mean girl” shtick to cover up being closeted lesbians, and Moon IS canonically bi, so it could work!!! I just think this one could be a really interesting Friends to Lovers take, and could make a really nice coming-out arc for Yas. And MoonPiper too, honestly!!! Like they only got 5 seconds of screentime so I understand WHY it’s underrated, but I still love what we DID get and loved that there was a canon gay ship (even if only for 1 scene lmao). I’m really excited to potentially see more of them in Season 4!!! Please, I’m begging!!!

Sweep the Leg because it will always be deeply hilarious to me how Demetri took note of the first move Eli ever used on him and spent presumably weeks perfecting it OUT OF SPITE just to get him back with it at the soccer game MONTHS later. Just goes to show how OBSESSED Demetri is with Eli and their little karate rivalry which is just NOT straight, I’m sorry

Which of Daniel’s dumb little outfits is your favorite?

There’s something so funny about this pretentious little fuck walking around in fancy suits once he becomes a #SuccessfulBusinessman, and still occasionally trying to do karate in a full-ass suit (take THAT, Tom Cole’s boba!!!) I’m also a big fan of how he looks in his gi with his little headband. Still killing that look as a 40-50-something!!!

Tbh I have still never seen a single Karate Kid movie (they took them off of Netflix, RIP), so...I don’t really care if they bring anyone else back??? You know what would be fucking funny as hell would be an It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia crossover. Allow me to elaborate: ~The Gang goes to LA on vacation during the height of the Karate Dojo Wars. They literally can get barely anything done without all these goddamn karate-fighting teenagers getting in the way. ~They are all very annoyed by this. Even the most obscure of tourist attractions is eventually intercepted by karate fights. ~Mac tries to join Cobra Kai because he sees all this karate fighting on, and wants to unquestionably prove both his badassery and masculinity. Both Johnny and Kreese are like “Wtf are you doing here? Aren’t you like 30?” ~Mac gets a planet-sized crush on Johnny after all of 5 minutes and endlessly gushes to the gang about him. The gang mercilessly roast him about this and about how much of a pathetic loser with his life together in no way whatsoever Johnny sounds like. They proceed to have exactly 0 self awareness about this. ~The Waitress is in town visiting family or something, and Charlie is stalking her, as per usual. However, every time he’s about to go up and talk to her, a pack of battling Miyagi-Dos and Cobra Kais throwing punches and kicks everywhere blocks his path. One times, Mac is among one of these packs and Charlie is like “???? He didn’t get kicked out of that teen karate dojo yet???” ~Seeing how much the Kids These Days seem to like fighting, Charlie drops by a local high school to try and sell Fight Milk to the kids doing karate. Only Kyler and Brucks buy into it, and subsequently get the entire West Valley High wrestling team sick. Charlie is inevitably arrested, as Counselor Blatt thinks he’s selling the kids drugs. ~Dennis makes a plan to have sex with every hot chick he can in Los Angeles. He meets Ali on a dating app post-divorce, and inevitably tries to bang her. It doesn’t work. ~Frank crashes the rental car, and inevitably the gang ends up at one of Daniel’s dealerships. Dee quickly takes a liking to Daniel and is like “Watch, assholes--Imma homewreck this guy’s marriage.” She starts frequenting the dealerships to attempt to flirt with Daniel, until one day she walks in on him having sex with Johnny in a back room and she’s like “Is that the guy from Mac’s goddamn dojo?!?!” ~Dennis, of course, tries to sleep with Amanda. Amanda is not having it, and rebukes him in the most snarky, Amanda-esque way possible. Dennis is just like “Oh not AGAIN--the women in this goddamn diva city have too high of standards!” ~Later on, the gang is at the beach and Dennis spots the blonde lady he went out on an ill-fate date with, and decides to give it another shot--that is, until he sees her go up and kiss another woman and he’s like “IS THAT THE LADY FROM THE CAR DEALERSHIP??? STUPID-KARATE-KICK-COMMERCIAL’S WIFE?!? YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME.” ~Dee complains to Dennis about her lack of luck getting laid, and Dennis is just like “Oh come ON, is everyone in Los Angeles gay???” Smash cut to Hawk and Demetri having sex, Moon and Piper making out, Bert and Nate holding hands, Chris and Mitch doing oral, and Amanda, Ali, and Carmen having a threesome. ~Frank tries to scam Kreese into buying cheaply-made karate equipment for his dojo. The gang ends up having to leave LA because Kreese is quite literally plotting all of their murders.

uhhh I definitely wrote half of several harry potter and lotr fanfics in HS but that was ‘the dark times’ many moons ago. so as an adult this is my only fandom! just stumbled into kpop and stumbled onto fanfics in the most backwards way possible (was sent a meme of a 1D ‘imagine’ and was like hey I wonder if they have these for kpop and then I found them and they were not a meme, but were fucking incredible AND NOW 4 YEARS LATER (started August-ish 2017???) here we are hahaha)

4. on which platforms do you post your stories?

oh dear god i just remembered I have an AO3 account..... WHOOPS, shit 😅 might need to, y’know, update that at some point. jfc adhd object permanence is something else.

5. what is your favorite genre to write?

Personally it’s sci fi/fantasy, but here in the fanfic space I’d say..... uhh slice of life, romance, angst but make it a happy ending?? fanfic is a way for me to share all the sort romantic hopeful feelings I have about love and life and friendship and purpose 💕

6. are you a pantser or a planner?

Used to be a pantser when I started this (and when fics used to be like ?? 3k-5k) now that fics in general are longer for one-shots and series my good lord I need an outline. Especially for exo mall which is *insert meme of crazy guy with the bulletin board* a lot for my brain haha

7. one shot or multi-chapter?

8. what is the perfect chapter length in your opinion?

I’d say mine are usually 5k or so?? some series were shorter per chapter, depending on subject matter. I tend to write like... interconnected long as frick oneshots, so i don’t count those as chapters ☠️

9. what is your longest published story? is it complete?

uhhhhh good question haha. my book was 95k and I think exo mall is like *dammit math* 140k or something that has significantly gotten out of hand. I have two more fics so it will probably be like 180ish when it’s done?? not including the drabbles to come haha 

10. which story did you enjoy working on the most?

I loved No Quarter and torturing Kat with her husband, also staying up all night to finish Chanyeol’s exo mall knowing kat had NO idea it was coming was a BLAST. Kyungsoo’s exo mall was one of the most ‘in the flow’ writing experiences i’ve ever had. I wrote this Baek oneshot at like 3am when i couldn’t sleep once and tbh it felt like I wrote it in a dream. ja;slkfjasd I love so many of these this is like a trip down memory lane, so I’m going to be a wh*re and say two more haha.  This is the most honest and close to ‘real life’ thing I think I’ve written on here (and also one of the only sex scenes I didn’t lose my goddamned mind trying to write a;sldkfja;sdf). And lastly Ablaze, which was the longest thing I’d written (I think) and let me know that hey? maybe I could write a book someday <3

11. favorite request you’ve have written and why (if any?)

This request for Exo Mall Baek was such a joy to write! And for some reason this Taeyong drabble makes me wish I had the time/energy to write it into a full story, it gripped me so much when I wrote it, like a movie had fully downloaded into my brain out of nowhere.

12. are there reoccurring themes in your stories?

For sure! I’d say found family is a big one. Trusting that you’ll find your place even if things don’t make sense or you feel unsure. Believing that love is worth the risk and fear of trusting someone ;laksjdfal;sd. That love can be big gestures and super intense, but that after that fades away it’s the small daily moments that matter most - the people who stay and listen when you’re sad, holding hands and forehead kisses, taking care of people when they’re sick or scared or just need company, showing up to try again or to communicate even when things are hard. 

Someone commented on a fic of mine ages ago that I helped them see that real love (of that small, daily, consistent kind) is possible and MAYHAPS I cried because underneath it all, that’s what I’d want people to take away - that love of all kinds is scary, but it’s always worth it in the end <3

13. current number of wips?

Surprisingly just ... 3? wow how time has changed hahaha. I have Jun + Baek for exo mall (plus some drabbles but that will be something people write in about, so I wouldn’t consider them wips) and then I maaaaay continute on here with the Jun + Min regency baes series. We shall see :)

14. three things you have noticed about your own writing?

1. I can’t NOT write Baekhyun as the biggest cheesy dork in the entire world 2. That I’ll always have endless fantasy world to live in. I have to try actively to not start new WIPs because it’s so damn easy to be inspired. If I’m ever bored I know that I can jump into some story and let myself be carried away for a while 3. that who and how i am in real life is not usually the same person that i am when it comes to the vibe of my writing, and that that’s totally okay <3

“I wish it had been with someone like you, though,” you say, squeezing his hand.

“Someone like me?” he says, raising his eyebrows, waiting for an explanation.

You look down at the floor, trying to figure out how to put how he makes you feel into words. “Yeah, someone strong, and steady. And safe.”

He lets out a laugh. “Safe? That sounds awfully similar to boring.”

“No, no. You don’t understand,” you say emphatically, coming to stand fully in front of him, grabbing his other hand as well. “You never ask me to be anything but who I am. You’re patient, kind, caring. For the longest time I thought that falling in love would be stifling. That it would… I don’t know, take my independence. Take my spirit. Make me into someone I don’t recognize.”

You step closer, holding his face in your hands. “But I can’t think of anything I want more than to be with you. You make me the best version of who I am. I don’t know how it is for you, being with me. But when I’m with you, it just feels like… home,” you finish gently.

'What's wrong?' she hisses in your ear, slightly off-kilter from the drink and revelry. 'You're going to tear my arm off.’.

'Sorry, he -' With a hand you push through the front doors, gulping in the cool night air and breathing deeply to steady the erratic pace of your heartbeat. 'Maggie, what's happening to me? He looked at me and I felt so... naked. I can't explain it.'

Thank you so much. Truly, from the bottom of my heart. This fandom brought writing back into my life after such a long time away and I had no idea I would love it so much. After leaving SQ I haven’t actively shipped anything with the exception of BeauYasha -Those of you who like dnd or have enough time to do things/work but need something to listen to seriously go with me down the rabbit hole that is dnd games on podcast/video format. Seriously. It doesn’t even need to be Critical Role, there are a lot of dnd podcasts these days- who are characters from the current CR campaign and if anyone is craving a true slow-burn with AMAZING tact and respect on what means to grow as a person, mourn past relationships, the insufferable hope that romance always comes with and the so so tender way in where two people can found each other amongst the most interesting circumsnaces all the while with their conjoined found family trying their best to see them happy… seriously, delve into CR.

Last movie: LOTR I would say. I watched it again couple of weeks ago with @roomiesnotsecrettmblr. Majorly because she admitted that she hadn’t watched any of the movies and we had some time to kill so what to do best but spend some hours watching the first movie and stopping every other minute to comment on lore? We are horrible at watching a movie without stopping to go into a tangent -seriously horrible, we started a rewatch of Merlin and we needed to stop doing that because we couldn’t go about one episode without pressing stop and start talking about possible interpretations of the lore used within the series every other minute-

Currently watching: Now that I’m in the painting minis thingie I’m catching up and watching random episodes of Critical Role. Majorly because I obviously adore the campaigns and secondly because each episode is four/five hours long so I have plenty of time to paint while listening. I’m also rewatching Castle majorly because it’s “popcorn” for the brain. I’ve watched it enough to remember every episode, I don’t need to be too focused on it and I can press “halt” on my brain while doing it. Jujutsu Kaisen as well because I happen to live with someone who adores mangas/anime and she is bringing me back to that world xD

Books: With the series of Shadow and Bone looming and after finishing a quick re-read of both Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom, I’m re reading the original trilogy of the Grishaverse. I was never a fan of those three books but the world felt very very compelling to me. While the romantic aspect of the drama tires me even more than it did once the rules of the Grishaverse are still so fucking cool so I’m enjoying the re-read Xd -Even if I already know the series is gonna be a clusterfuck. Come on, I also want to go to Ketterdam and see Kaz and the others but mixing both timelines??? According to what we get to see in Six of Crows Inej shoulnd’t already be with Kaz at the beginning of S&B or, if she was, she wouldn’t be the Wraith yet but still learning and cleansing herself from Tante Heleen. They are doing this because they originally wanted Six of Crows rather than the Alina Starkov storyline and mixing both is something that is already making me worry-

[Also reading CandleKeep mysteries just because roomie happened to get a copy of the book and despite being a dnd manual I always take them as bedtime stories I can later on create upon so that’s fun]

Oh! And I finished with a quick re-read of @emmasternerradley SilverBeasts because I promised that I was going to do a proper review of the second book of that story and I wanted to refresh my mind a little bit before going back to Golden Sea. I truly TRULY recommend anything written by her but those two books?? A must if you like fantasy.

Comic/Webcomic: Re-reading Sunstone atm as well. I just adore their dynamic and visually the comic is to die for. Also reading Lore Olympus every other week ofc. I truly want to know where they will go with the story. And punderworld whenever I can. And several others xD

Fanfic: Not much from me on that front currently. I recently re-read @delirious-comfort Whispers in the Night -SQ, so good- but, yup, other than that I’m staying slightly off fandom world.

"Why are you doing this?" Everyone had already asked him that question countless times since he had been captured, even Wooyoung, but this time, Yeosang decided to be honest.

"I want to get out of this planet."

Hongjoong's dream was similar to the Yeosang's dreams that Wooyoung had visited. He was once again in a ship, sailing through space. Everyone on board was wearing the uniform of the Kim Empire's military, so Wooyoung knew he was in a royal vessel and this was probably one of Hongjoong's memories rather than a full dream.

He walked around the deck, carefully looking at all the faces to see if he could identify the Captain of The Crescent, but when Wooyoung found him, Hongjoong didn't look like what he had expected. He looked younger, probably no older than fifteen, and was sitting with an older man that Wooyoung barely remembered from a previous dream. If he was right, that was Taejoong, Hongjoong's eldest brother that had passed away in battle.

It made him a little uncomfortable that Hongjoong looked so young, but he had no time to lose. He approached Hongjoong and touched his shoulder. Hongjoong immediately reacted by drawing his sword and pointing it at him, and Wooyoung yelped. The rest of the dream vanished around them, and Hongjoong looked older again, like how he had looked when Wooyoung had first encountered him in dreams. 

"Who are you?" Hongjoong asked. His stance was tense and his eyes promised to slice him in half if Wooyoung wasn't careful. Fortunately for him, they were in a dream, and as far as he knew, he couldn’t actually hurt him.

"Jung Wooyoung," He answered, looking at the point of the sword and then at Hongjoong. "And you are Kim Hongjoong right?"

"How do you know my name?" Hongjoong pressed forward, making Wooyoung step back. Despite knowing it was a dream, the sword looked very much real and he was still afraid of getting hurt.

"I know a lot of things about you that you probably don't want others to know, like how you're the third in the succession line of the Kim Empire-" Wooyoung didn't get to keep talking as the sword pressed against his neck, making him stumble on his words. It felt terrifyingly real, was he wrong about his assumptions?

"How do you know that?" Hongjoong enunciated each world carefully, and Wooyoung worried that maybe dreams didn't work as he thought they did, because he felt pretty much like he could die at any moment.

"Because we're in a dream!" Wooyoung exclaimed, raising both hands in defeat and praying Hongjoong wouldn't actually try to slice his head. 

"What?" Hongjoong looked taken aback for a moment, and Wooyoung used the opportunity to grab the sword by the blade, carefully. It turned into smoke in their hands, vanishing into the nothing.

"See? We are in a dream, none of this is real, and I can't hurt you." Wooyoung clarified, realizing how this could actually put Hongjoong more on edge.

"How?" Hongjoong looked at him with a mix of distrust and curiosity.

"Let's just say I am... sort of a message from the Universe?" Wooyoung shrugged, doubting the omen joke would work on him.

"So you are not a product of my dreams?" Hongjoong seemed to relax a little, which was ironic, because Wooyoung thought he should be afraid about someone being able to invade his dreams.

"No, I am a real person, and I am here because I need to ask you for a favor." Wooyoung went straight to the point.

"A favor?" Hongjoong's eyes widened slightly. "How could you need a favor from me? I don't know you."

"But you know Kang Yeosang," Wooyoung pursed his lips, hoping that the mention would at least keep Hongjoong's attention on him.

"How...?" Hongjoong's eyes widened even more, and he was starting to look comical.

"I feel like you're going to ask me that question a lot..." Wooyoung pouted, crossed his arms. He didn't want to tell Hongjoong what he was as much as he didn't want to tell anyone else. His people had been hunted for since they began existing, wanted for their ability to become predictors of the future. "I was in his dreams just now, and he told me you're going to hand him over to the guards."

"This is a lot to process..." Hongjoong mumbled, closing his eyes and rubbing his temples. 

Wooyoung felt a little bad, because he had given Yeosang a better chance to process things, but he was just dropping everything on Hongjoong and expecting him to understand. He was in a hurry, of course, but he still felt like Hongjoong deserved a better explanation than this. The best he could do now, though, was make him more comfortable. Wooyoung focused his mind and energy into manifesting a room around them, small and cozy, in hopes that it would help.

Hongjoong stared at him, both confused and marveled. It seemed like he had so many questions for Wooyoung, but he didn't quite know where to start and they didn't have the time for it either. Wooyoung guided him to sit down and then sat down in front of him. He took a deep breath and proceeded to try talking it out with Hongjoong again.

"That was really not a great start for us," Wooyoung sighed. "I promise I'll let you ask any questions you have, but I really need your help." Hongjoong seemed to consider it for a moment, but nodded afterwards.

"What do you need my help with?" Hongjoong asked finally.

"Please keep him from going to jail, it will mess up a lot of things if he does." Wooyoung explained. He knew it was a lot to ask for, but who else but the Captain would have the ability to stop something like that?

"He was trying to steal from my ship, though." Hongjoong pointed out, and Wooyoung exhaled loudly.

"I know! That was such a stupid move from him!" Wooyoung grumbled, remembering Yeosang's face when he had confessed to the crimes. "I don't agree with him stealing, but I really need you to help him."

"Are you two dating?" Hongjoong asked, a small smile making its way to his lips.

"What? No! No..." Wooyoung's face turned as he tried to deny it. They weren't dating... yet, because according to the Interpreter, they would, but that was something Wooyoung didn't want to think about yet. It scared him.

"Sure..." Hongjoong's smile widened, but decided not to press further.

"So... Will you do that for me?" Wooyoung asked again, looking at Hongjoong with hopeful eyes. It was kind of cute, and Hongjoong had to look away.

"You said if I don't it will mess up a lot of things..." Hongjoong said, still trying to get a little bit more information from him.

"It will... I- I can't explain you right now, it's not the right time, but I wasn't lying when I said I was sort of a message from the Universe, please believe me." Wooyoung grabbed his hands, squeezing them softly, looking at him with the best pleading eyes he could muster. Hongjoong blushed slightly and looked away.

"I will try my best, but Yunho is not going to like it..." Hongjoong muttered, remembering how Yunho had opposed him delaying Yeosang's arrest. He was glad he had done it now, though, because getting someone out of jail was far more difficult than not having them arrested.

"Yunho is your boyfriend, right?" Wooyoung asked, smiling brightly one his request had been accepted.

"Yes... How-" Hongjoong began the question but stopped once he noticed Wooyoung pouting at him. "Right, message from the Universe and dream traveler, you probably know far more than I want to be aware of..."

"I probably do..." Wooyoung nodded, knowing that feeling all too well. "Thank you so much, really, I promise I'll explain everything next time we see each other, if I'm not in a hurry again..."

"There will be a next time?" Hongjoong asked, opening his eyes wide. Wooyoung chuckled softly.

"Oh, you'd be surprised... There will be many next times," Wooyoung stood up. "Good night." And just like that, he was gone.

When Wooyoung woke up in his hotel room, he immediately ran to the bathroom to throw up. He hadn't realized how tiring it could be to visit dreams and control them as well, that was probably the reason Interpreters required so much training. He sighed deeply as soon as he was done and went to brush his teeth, mind wandering back to the two people he had visited before.

He honestly couldn't believe there was going to be a relationship happening, especially with how some of them had met. Yeosang trying to steal from the ship had probably put Yunho against him, because while Hongjoong was quick to forgive and help others, Yunho was much more reserved. Or, at the very least, that was what Wooyoung had been able to deduce from his dreams. 

What worried him the most, however, was not them getting along, not exactly. It was that he still wasn't sure what his full purpose was. The Interpreter had told him that they would face very difficult challenges in order to get the treasure, but so far nothing had been too bad. Was something worse waiting for them? Wooyoung was worried, but until he could get to them, he would have to be patient and hope they would be okay.

Hongjoong woke up with a bit of a headache. He could remember his dream almost perfectly but couldn't quite believe what had happened, and still, he didn't doubt Wooyoung had been real. He couldn't quite understand why Wooyoung had been so insistent about him rescuing Yeosang from being tried, but it had seemed so important for the other that he hadn't been able to refuse.

When he looked to the other side of the bed, he realized Yunho was no longer there, and he felt a little surprised that the other hadn't woken him up. A bad feeling filled his stomach and he quickly stood up. He dressed up and left his quarters in a rush, and just like he had feared, he saw San and Jongho holding Yeosang between them, while Yunho had a discussion with Hwanwoong.

"I'm telling you the Captain said 'not yet'." Yunho repeated himself.

"Why would he even say that? He's a criminal!" Hwanwoong replied.

The crew was tense, and Hongjoong noticed Jongho wince at the word 'criminal'. What had even happened while he had been asleep? Hongjoong stepped forward and claimed the attention of the rest with a loud whistle.

"What is happening here?!" He yelled. He noticed the way those around him stood up straight, and huffed.

"I was on my way to deliver the burglar to the authorities, Captain." Hwanwoong explained, eyes fixed to the front. He was acting too much like a soldier for Hongjoong's taste, but he could discuss that with him later. "First Mate Yunho stopped me and said you'd decided not to hand him over yet."

"And then why are you handing him over?" Hongjoong asked, slightly exasperated. "I did tell Yunho we weren't handing him over just yet." Yeosang looked up at him at that moment, surprised.

"But-" Hwanwoong tried to rebut, but a simple glare from Hongjoong was enough to stop him. "Understood, Captain." Hongjoong felt a little bad, they were cousins, and he knew Hwanwoong had the best intentions, but he could sometimes go overboard.

"That does not mean I'm forgiving you that easily, though." Hongjoong continued, this time looking at Yeosang.

He approached him. San and Jongho were still holding onto his arms, the first looking calm as he waited for orders but the second one looking tense as he looked back and forth between Hongjoong and Yeosang. Pretty much all of the crew was staring at them, unable to fully understand the strange exchange that was going on in front of them.

"Alright," Yeosang nodded. He couldn't believe Wooyoung had really visited Hongjoong's dreams and convinced him to help him. His thoughts were going a mile a minute, but he focused on the question.

"Why are you doing this?" Hongjoong asked. Everyone had already asked him that question countless times since he had been captured, even Wooyoung, but this time, Yeosang decided to be honest.

"I want to get out of this planet," Yeosang said. His voice was firm, despite the fact that inside he was feeling worried and anxious. "I'm saving to buy myself a ticket out of this place." 

"And why do you want to get out of here so badly that you're willing to commit a crime?" Hongjoong pressed further, wanting to break down the story to its smallest parts. He wanted to trust Wooyoung, but to do so he had to trust Yeosang, and he couldn't do it unless he understood his intentions fully.

"You say it like I killed someone," Yeosang mumbled. It hurt a little, even if they were strangers, that they looked down on him like that. "You must not be from here, but this place only gets worse day by day; it's almost impossible to get a job or even study." 

"So you want to get out of here to get a job?" Honjoong raised an eyebrow. The emotion in Yeosang's voice told him that was not it.

"I want to get out of this place to get a better life for myself, and to be able to afford the help my mother needs!" Yeosang yelled, exasperated. San held him tighter when he felt him move towards Hongjoong, and Yeosang complained. He had wanted to keep it to himself, ashamed of what his life had turned out to be, but Hongjoong wasn't letting him. His eyes glistened with unshed tears, but he wasn't about to cry in front of his captors. "Maybe find my father, I don't know. This place is fucked up, what do you want me to tell you? How can I make you believe me?"

"I believe you." Hongjoong replied instantly, making everyone turn around to look at him in surprise. "I'm sorry." He added right after.

With a nod of his head, Jongho and San let go of Yeosang's arms, and Jongho untied him. Yeosang stretched his arms as he looked at Hongjoong in disbelief. Did he really believe him? Was this some sort of trap? Apparently he wasn't the only one feeling confused like that, because everyone was staring at their captain with a mix of disbelief and surprise. 

"Why are you apologizing?" Yeosang asked. That had been what had taken him aback the most.

"For pressing you to say those things in front of everyone," Hongjoong shrugged. He looked apologetic and uncomfortable. "We all have things we want to keep from others."

Yeosang almost wanted to laugh, what kind of person was this? Hongjoong had looked so intimidating the day before when the others had told him about the intruder, but now he looked kind and his presence was small and simple. He couldn't help but feel even more curious about the identity of the captain of the ship, who looked nothing like what Yeosang expected him to look like, having the money to own such a vessel.

"What now? D-Do I just get to leave?" Yeosang asked, earnest. He was still rubbing the burns on his wrists, product of the ropes San had tied before.

"What do you say if I get you out of this planet?" Hongjoong asked instead.

"What?" Yunho exclaimed immediately, approaching him. "Captain, this is not what we discussed before."

"I know, but I also never said I would limit myself to what I said before." Hongjoong gave Yunho a look and that was enough to shut him up and make him step back again. That was exactly what Yeosang had witnessed on their first meeting, so how could he go from that to looking at him with absolute kindness. "Do you know anything about space ships and navigation?"

"I know everything there is to know," Yeosang answered enthusiastically. "My father was an amazing sailor, the best in Tebos; he taught me everything I know."

"Alright then, what does everyone else think about taking him in?" Hongjoong asked.

"I don't think it's a good idea." Yunho muttered next to him, but Hongjoong only chuckled.

"That's what you say about most of my ideas," Hongjoong rolled his eyes. "Anyone else?"

"I think it's a good idea..." Mingi mumbled, raising his hand slightly. Hongjoong nodded, an indication that he could talk. "I spent the night watching him and we spoke a little, he is very nice." Mingi blushed as the attention fell on him, but Hongjoong smiled at him encouragingly. "He does know a lot about ships, he explained everything about this vessel to me, and I am part of the crew."

"I also think we should take him in." Jongho agreed, supporting Mingi's words. Other people voiced their agreement, and some just shrugged, like they didn't know what they wanted.

"I'm with Yunho on this one, but I also know there is no stopping you once you make a decision." Siyeon interrupted, sighing loudly. Hongjoong smiled at her sheepishly.

"What do you think San?" Hongjoong looked at San, surprising him slightly. He hadn't commented anything during the previous discussion, so he was surprised that Hongjoong had asked for his opinion specifically.

San looked at Yeosang for a second. He knew all too well what it was like to live on a planet that had barely anything to go on, he was a victim of this as well. He had also wanted to leave his own planet, and the only way for him had been to become what he was today, an assassin. San didn't particularly enjoy killing others, but he knew there were worse ways to make a living. 

Did he want Yeosang to go back to that? He didn't know him well, but it would be a lie to say he didn't feel at least a little sympathy. Of course, having more people on the ship would only make his own task even more difficult, but Yeosang wasn't at fault for his task. Besides, with how thin he was, he wasn't even a threat. It would probably make no difference.

"I think..." San hummed. "I think it's okay if he stays." He nodded, and Hongjoong smiled.

"Well then, in that case, whoever thinks we should have a new crew member, raise their hand." Hongjoong instructed as he raised his own hand.

A few crew members were quick to follow him, those who had been moved by listening to Yeosang's story. A few more joined after a moment of consideration, deciding that if their Captain trusted Yeosang, they would too. In the end, more than half of the crew had put up their hands, and Hongjoong told them to put them down.

"I think that settles it, then." Hongjoong put a hand on Yeosang's shoulder. "Welcome to The Crescent."

"Th-Thank you," Yeosang stuttered, still unable to believe that it was actually happening, that he was getting off of Tebos.

"You should go home and get all of your official documents if you'll be traveling with us, take Mingi with you." Hongjoong ordered. Mingi nodded and walked over to Yeosang, hugging him for half a second out of excitement. He had really come to like Yeosang during the time they spent on the hold talking, and he was glad they would get to work together now. "Siyeon, what is the state of the fuel situation?"

"They'll be coming to fill our tank in about half an hour, and then we can leave." Siyeon informed him.

"Excellent then, I'll leave that to you," Hongjoong smiled satisfied. "Let's get ready to set sail again!" He ordered, and the crew dispersed to go back to their respective works while Mingi and Yeosang went to pick up his things.

Yunho approached Hongjoong and pulled him along to his quarters. Hongjoong had already expected something like this, and let Yunho pull him along without resistance. He knew Yunho was probably a little mad that he hadn't followed his advice, but he knew something that Yunho didn't, and that was that, according to Wooyoung, Yeosang was supposed to be with them anyway. 

Something about Wooyoung had intrigued him, and Hongjoong wanted to trust him desperately, so he was willing to give Yeosang and opportunity. Plus, Yeosang had won himself a place in the ship with his words. Hongjoong wished he could have helped his mother back before she passed, so if he could help Yeosang with his mother, it almost felt like redemption.

"Why do you not listen to me?" Yunho asked him once they were in the privacy of their quarters, crossing his arms.

"I listen to you, I just don't follow everything you say." Hongjoong pointed out, but judging by Yunho's expression, that was the wrong thing to say. "Okay, then I have a question for you, why don't you trust me to make good decisions?" 

"I do trust you..." Yunho's expression fell, as did his arms. "I do trust you, you're smart and an amazing strategist, I know you have your reasons for every choice you make." Yunho ran his words, he was obviously frustrated. Hongjoong approached him and placed both hands on his cheeks, making him look at him.

"But?" He asked softly. Yunho sighed and relaxed on his hold.

"But I'm worried about you," Yunho started, holding Hongjoong's hands in his. "What if he is not what he says he is? What if your identity leaked out somehow and someone is trying to kill you? You know full well your family has dangerous opponents out there.”

"Yeah, that's a good reason to be worried, I agree." Hongjoong nodded. "But I have you." Hongjoong smiled. "I know I am safe when I am with you, because we keep each other's backs. We would never let anything happen to the other."

"Don't say that," Yunho pouted. "I feel even more responsible now, what if I can't protect you?" Hongjoong kissed his pout way, chuckling.

"I'm sorry, but don't think like that." Hongjoong caressed his cheeks softly. "We are also capable of protecting ourselves baby, remember? I am not your priority Yunho, I'm your equal, worry about yourself first."

"Fine..." Yunho nodded. "But I'll complain a lot about it." Hongjoong chuckled.

"You already do."

Yeosang guided Mingi through the town's alleyways towards his house. He had to be mindful of Mingi's legs while also keeping in mind that he should avoid being spotted by guards and angry townspeople. Captain Hongjoong may have decided to not press charges, but that didn't mean there weren't many others out to get him.

"Your town is pretty..." Mingi commented at some point while they were crossing a small bridge.

"You think so?" Yeosang stopped to look around. All he saw were dark buildings and decks, the canals taking up almost every street, and a blue sky that was barely visible through the roofs of the tall buildings.

"Yeah," Mingi nodded, stopping next to him and observing as well. "There is always so much dust where I come from. It's red and dry. I prefer it here." He shrugged, following Yeosang when he started up again.

"What did you do before coming here?" Yeosang asked him, curious about Mingi's past since he had already shared his own with everyone else.

"I was a miner in Merth X-24, that's why they hired me, since I have experience with explosives and all that." Mingi smiled, looking proud of himself.

"That's pretty cool!" Yeosang asked. He took a glance at Mingi's missing leg but decided not to ask. If Mingi wasn't going to share on his own, then he wouldn't press him about it.

"I also wanted to get out of my planet, see the rest of the Universe for a while..." Mingi added. "So I understand why you want to get out of here."

"Thank you, actually." Yeosang said. "For standing up for me back there, even though you barely know me."

"You seem like a nice person, so I don't see why you shouldn't join." Mingi smiled.

The rest of the little trip went on in silence. In just a few minutes, they were outside his home. Yeosang peaked in to see if his mother was home, but when he saw the place was clear, he invited Mingi inside and quickly went to his room to pack himself some clothes and pick all of his important documents. 

He felt like he should say goodbye to his mother, at the very least. But she was scared about confronting her and he also didn't know when she would be back, he couldn't be late to his first 'day of work'. Instead, he quickly scribbled a lengthy note to his mother and left it where she would see it. Then he grabbed his things and met with Mingi in his living room.

"Ready to go?" Mingi asked him with a soft smile.

"I've never been more ready to leave this place, let's go."

They walked for a while, at a slow pace so Mingi wouldn’t struggle to catch up. They were mostly silent, although Yeosang would tell him curiosities about his town here and there. He was grateful to Mingi for helping him back in the ship. Deep down, Yeosang hoped they could become friends.

"There he is!"

Someone yelled behind them. They stopped in their tracks and turned around, finding a good sized mob armed with a mix of guns and other makeshift weapons. Yeosang didn't even need to look at them closely to know those were all the people he had been stealing from, along with a couple of guards he had pissed off, and even other people living in the streets that he had crossed paths with at some point. He hadn’t thought he had that many enemies.

“Oh fuck…” Yeosang muttered.

Without giving it much thought, he grabbed Mingi's hand and began running.

Whumpmas in July 2021 Day 1 - (Re-)Introduce yourself and/or your creations!

Hi! I don’t think I ever made an actual intro post so I’m using this chance!

I am C, 25, and I have been into whump ever since I can remember (though I only learned this word much more recently, and even then I thought it was only about sickfics and stuff for a long time but that’s a story for another day). English is not my first language but I have been reading stuff in English online for over 10 years, and writing for almost as long (though not well, back then) so it’s a language I’m very comfortable using for my writing hobby (it’s even more comfortable than my mother language when it’s spicy stuff).

This blog is probably not older than a few months. I have written and published mildly whumpy stuff for fandoms I’m in before but I felt the need for content that is focused on the tropes rather than on particular characters, and on the way I found some very talented writers and their amazing OC stories. Unfortunately I can’t follow from here as this is a side blog to my fandom account and having a “messy” dash is a nightmare for me, but I check the whump main tag and the blogs of my fav creators + the people on my notes almost daily.

My masterlist is pinned, if anyone is interested. I usually write for a single fandom at a time, so now that I am dividing my time between my main fandom and whumpy stuff, I am still figuring out how to post often in both (how do you multifandom guys do it???), and it doesn’t help that this is a busy year. So my masterlist is currently short, but I hope to expand it soon.

Under the cut I rant about my works that I post here and talk a bit about my fav whump tropes

I am into slavery whump and dehumanization and this sort of thing. I’m not particularly into the “pet aesthetic” part of pet whump but I don’t mind, it and pet whump has a lot of Good Stuff so it’s probably what I have the most of in my reblogs. The part I am the most into is the whumpee having their whole life in someone else’s hand (be it a whumper or caretaker), and being unable to seek help because the whole thing is legal and socially accepted. I’m a big fan of non human whumpees (aliens, robots, clones, fantasy creatures, etc) as long as they look human, like, I want them to mostly look like a regular person but have the added angst bonus of not being one. I think the only whumpee species that is not fully humanoid that I actively search for is merpeople (all because one day I stumbled upon this art and got obsessed with the concept - I have a whole verse based on it that I hope to write soon).

As for my creations, when I was very young I would come up with whumpy scenarios but they were always random, with unrelated original characters I didn’t care much about. One day I got tired of having to come up with world rules every time, and so I made up a verse with well defined rules that I could use for all my scenarios from then on. As time passed, this verse evolved and I grew attached, I started making characters and plots and changing the rules to fit in with my new tastes. I actually started writing this story back in high school (and showed it to people, rip me) and got stuck when I realized making it more whumpy and making the characters be decent people were conflicting goals. I am currently focusing on making it whumpy and posting snippets of it on tumblr since now I know there are people who are into this stuff like I am, bless you guys (both my stories “Ni and Jay and Jane” and “Joy and Henry” come from it, focusing on different characters)

My other story that I post here is focused on my OC Violet, which I made in high school when I was learning to deal with my teen angst. She started as a self insert, but then I made it whumpy and sci fi and gave her self healing abilities and a creepy evil doctor to torture her so I guess it doesn’t even count as self insert anymore. I have three short chapters written of it that I am currently rewriting and translating, but I have a bunch of ideas, old and new, to try.

I also have in my future plans the mer verse I mentioned earlier, other characters from my big whumpy verse that I would like to write about, and a couple of fics from back when I read catboy AUs in fandoms I’m not in anymore that I want to rewrite and make whumpier. I’m basically dumping here a lot of old stuff that I see in a new light since I learned what whump is and that never reached its full potential back then because I thought no one would want to read a story only about a character suffering lol

1. what is your ideal setting for focusing on your writing?

Definitely Panera Bread (a cozy restaurant chain that has the BEST cinnamon bagels and mac & cheese, for anyone not familiar). I’m praying that by next year COVID is to a point where I can write there again. Other than that usually at home at my desk is best for focus.

2. what is your favorite genre to write?

I’m down for anything as long as it has at least a little bit of romance 😂I think on here I’ve written rom coms, sci fi, fantasy, angst, horror, thriller, etc. and I definitely plan to continue being a wide and varied writer but with that constant romance bent, as I am a diehard romance hoe 💕I was thinking about this recently and I think the universal vibe for my work is /longing/ since that’s a reflection on who I am as a person lmaooooo

3. do you prefer to write on paper, or digitally?

Oh my god digitally. I used to have atrocious handwriting as a kid, but it’s gotten better. I have a persistent ache in my wrist/thumb on my dominant hand (i think because of carpal tunnel due to spending five years growing up working at a theater and constantly using my wrist to sweep up popcorn lmao) so I could never be a longhand/paper writer.

4. it’s the middle of the night and you suddenly wake up with an idea. what do you do?

I used to just type it into an email to myself or into the search bar on my phone or on random pieces of paper but now I just have a ‘misc’ google doc that I can pull up on my phone and jot things down. The virgo energy that thrives in my chart is SO happy to have this organized 😂

5. who is your favorite person to write about?

hmmmm I actually had to think about this. I think I’m in the minority here in the fandom since I have only written one (?) story about my ult bias Kim Junmyeon. I’m not sure why that is necessarily but I think it’s since I keep my thoughts about him so close to myself I usually spend my time and creative energy writing for other people??? My favorite person is probably Kyungsoo or Baekhyun. Baek because he’s so !!! I feel like his stories are very fun to write and Soo because he’s a bit quieter/more introverted so the fics I seem to write for him are very internal and full of longing which I vibe with on the daily, so it feels like writing myself almost lmaoooo

6. do you like making your own characters, or do you usually write about real people?

I’d say both? I really enjoy writing my own characters but I also enjoy writing fanfic, since there’s already a universal knowledge of the ‘characters.’ I always write AUs vs. RPF (real person fiction) about the IRL people I’m writing about, so it’s easier to just jump into the idea vs. spending a whole lot of time establishing the appearance/general personality of characters. While writing my book I’ve been dipping back into writing fics since it’s a nice break from having to create every aspect of the world/characters myself, so I’d say I like both equally!

7. have you ever written a book, or a story with more than 15 chapters (or 100k words)?

PLS PRAY FOR ME LMAOOOO god I’m like uhhh at about 85k on my book and just shy of 100k is the target word count for a book in the age group/genre i’m writing for so I’m aaaallllmmooossttt done. Other than that I think EXO mall is over 100k??? it’s not all one series but I sometimes consider it one. Other than that I think if I do end up writing Regency Husbands aka A Truth Universally Acknowledged here on tumblr itself I think that will probably be in the ballpark of 100k since I plotted it out as an entire book lololoollol.

8. how often do you get ideas?

fuckin hell, just - all the time. I have a few fics/books plotted out and I’m dying to get around to them and then I have a ‘misc’ google doc that holds lines, images, snippets of things that I’d love to throw together into a story at some point. I talk about this below, but now that I’m taking on trying to write books/be traditionally published (and since I’m a virgo... rising/mercury/mars/etc. I get VERY stressed by loose ends/unfinished things ughhhgghgh) I’ve had to be really clear/strict with myself when something comes up. 

Like is this new thing 1. a fic/book i want to write and 2. do I want to prioritize that over things I’ve planned already. So for now my plan on tumblr is to finish EXO mall and then re-evaluate the overflowing folder of ideas to see what’s next lmaooooo. One thing at a time seems to work best for me so that’s what I try to do, OR possibly see if it’s something I can work into an already in-process fic to try to kill two birds with one stone :)

9. do you ever get an idea that you really like, but just can’t seem to finish?

GOD YES. So many. The EXO x Italian Job series that almost was. The Jongin fae story that was supposed to be a drabble and almost became a friggin book. A lot of the things I did for drabble parties came from snippets of things I planned to write as full on fics and just didn’t feel like I could do it justice.

It’s so hard because I work full time and life is busy and I can only write SO much, so as I’ve gotten more uhh experienced? Idk if that’s the right word, but as I’ve come to know myself better as a writer I get more adept at figuring out which ideas will actually sustain me through an entire series or a 20k+ oneshot and which ones will just be drabbles/brief flashes of an idea but ones that I can’t fully ‘finish’ and explore, if that makes sense? 

I’ve come to just enjoy the idea and write a short little thing for it and be done and happy with it vs. spending ages feeling guilty/beating myself up that I just don’t feel like writing that idea. And who knows? Maybe it’s something I’ll come back to later and ‘finish’ but it’s just not the right time!

10. what is your least favorite plot?

Hmmmm I’d say anything with romantic on-the-page abuse (that’s supposed to be romantic??)/dubious consent/verbal humiliation/etc etc. I’ve found a ton of books feature this lately under the guise of an ‘alpha’ male character and I just 🙃it’s not my thing, personally. I am usually still down for like age difference fics (as long as both parties are legal adults ofc), sub/dom vibes in smut, some teasing/jokes etc. but anything with the specific intent to demean/degrade/etc. another person I’m like that gif of the mouse walking in a door and then walking right back out.

Chapter 6

“Hang on. You want me to do what?!” A familiar deep voice, on the other end of the phone, exclaimed.

“I need you to find us a way into that event, Morrison!” Lady repeated herself; words laced with growing frustration. Her hand tightening its hold around the bright yellow ceiling handle hanging above her. “Yes, I know you don’t deal with the Cult of Fortuna! But this is really kinda urgent!”

The heat of the compartment was really starting to get to her. Sweat beads welling up on her forehead and covering it in a wet, salty glaze. It was hard to tell if this was because of the stress of negotiating with Morrison, or the 60 or so people rammed into the same monorail cart around her - pressed up against one another like sheep in an inclosed pen. It felt as though she was being cooked in a gruelling dry oven. The air conditioning unit stationed above her, trying its best as it worked overtime to pump small blasts of cool air in the mercenary’s direction, to little avail except for a brief millisecond of chilly relief she gained from it.

Her compatriots, likewise, also seemed to be uncomfortable in their current situation.

Apparently, Dante’s already non-existent attention span had been quickly eroded away in the 15 or so minutes he had been forced to stand here. Well…not really stand. As he had leaned back against one of the glass archways, in-between the main seating area and the exit door, arms crossed. Obviously rather bored, if the occasional upset, deep sighs she heard coming from his direction, were anything to go by. Alongside the sweet sound of him humming some kind of rock song, unbeknownst to anyone but himself, and tapping his foot on the floor to its invisible beat. His eyes closed, although occasionally peaking one sapphire eye open to see if their final destination was coming up on the floating holographic sign above them. Only to always be sorely disappointed, then returning to his sweet humming.

Vergil, meanwhile, was sitting on a small plastic bench in between the pair of them. It seemed he had declared some sort of silent, and bloody war against a screaming and whining young child across from them; the child’s ignorant mother taking no action to stop them. His sharp eyes fixed intently on the small, high-pitched creature. Glaring at them angrily, as though the demon thought that by some miracle, it would get the child to shut up. That...obviously wasn’t working however, and the little boy continued to screech regardless.

Lady took the opportunity to slip a glance over her shoulder at the elder twin, while her conversation between her and her employer lulled for a moment. Morrison deep in thought as he lit up another cigar.  

It was crystal clear from how tense and rigid the blue demon’s body language was becoming - his sharp pale jawline, peaking from beneath the veil of shadows covering his aristocratic features, hardening - that Vergil was soon going to blow. Massively. Which given the elder twin's track record for bloody slaughter, could only really lead to a disaster on a packed train like this. All Lady could do was hold her breath, and hope they could get off this nightmarish train before that happened.

“Alright. Cause’ its you little missy, I’ll see what I can do.” Morrison relented. A touch of fatherly gruffness to his voice. "Not making any promises though. Fuck. I don’t even wanna to think about whose strings I’m gonna have to tug to pull this off!”

“I certainly appreciate it, Morrison. Cheers.” Lady thanked, before ending the call. Sliding her phone into her skirt pocket.

“So is he going to do it?” Dante asked. Smiling hopefully at her.

“Sounds like it.” Lady confirmed with a nod. Switching her cramping arm, holding onto the ceiling handle, over to the other. “I’m sure he’ll pull through with something.”

More accurately, they needed him to pull through with something.

Despite being the one to send them off on this perilous quest in the first place. Augustus had been kind enough to provide them as much information as he could gather about this “Charity Ball”. Sending through several of the emails he had received from the cult’s network, after the group had handed back his laptop.

And it was just as well he had! Because, as it turned out, the Charity Ball drastically moved location every time it was held. From fancy restaurants on the middle floor to a gentrified warehouse in the slums. However, this time it seemed the location of choice was a small expo centre. Ironically, it was surprisingly close to the hotel where she had first encountered Vergil.

But, even if they at least knew this secret meeting's location, it still didn’t mean they had any way to actually enter the Ball. It was an invite only event. Unless Lady wanted to bankrupt herself a few hundred times over, she sure as hell was not buying her way inside! It wasn’t even like the twins could do much to help either, even with their father’s limitless wealth. As Vergil had pointed out, it would be obvious they came from a demonic household, given that they weren’t already a part of the pre-established wealthy society of humans. And thus, given the Cult of Fortuna’s fears about being found out by the demonic authorities, they’d be swiftly rejected regardless.

“MUUUUUUUUUUM I WANNA GET OFF! THIS SO BORING!” The bratty child screamed at the top of his lungs. Before pointing a chubby finger over in the group's direction. “SERIOUSLY THIS PLACE SMELLS FUNNY!! ESPECIALLY THAT CREEPY GUY WHO KEEPS STARING AT ME-“

The child didn’t have a chance to finish. Pinned against the opposite train wall by the sharp tip of Yamato’s silver blade, held dubiously resting above the boy's heart, in less than the blink of an eye. The boy fell, choked on his words. Only letting out a small whimper in terror as he looked up at the towering man before him. The whole crowd erupted into a mania of panicked screaming and backing away from the scene. Leaving a circle of free space around them.

Crap, this isn’t good! Lady thought to herself. Silently cursing the child for antagonising Vergil when they had seemed so close to being able to get off without a hitch. The next station’s only a minute away, dammit!

“What on earth are you doing!” The child’s mother cried hysterically. Reaching out to push him off her son, before being stopped dead in her tracks by Vergil’s cutting glare.

“Teaching your child the consequences of his actions.” Vergil informed her sharply. A look of genuine confusion shot onto the woman’s features at his declaration. As though she had no idea what he was talking about."You really are a terrible mother, aren’t you? Don’t you realise there are other people on this train who do not wish to hear your child's screeching? You are not only neglectful to your son, but also to common decency.”

The mother grew enraged at his accusation. Clenching one hand tightly around the handle of her crimson handbag, as her heart-shaped face twisted and disfigured in offence. “B-but I don’t control what my son does! He’s his own person-“

“Yes. But as his guardian you have an obligation to do something, woman!” Vergil snapped angrily.

“Yeah, as much as my bro might be overreacting. He’s kinda got a point lady.” Dante chimed in. Causally moving to stand over beside Vergil so that they were back to back; Dante leaning a portion of his body weight against his brother.

Subtly, he elbowed his twin’s lower back. Getting Vergil’s attention off the child and towards him. The blue demon tilted his head over his shoulder in Dante’s direction, before leaning in close and whispering into his ear. “Think the kid’s got the idea, Verge. Wanna let him go?”

At his brother’s words, Vergil withdrew his blade. Returning Yamato back to its holster under his coat with a satisfying click. He turned away with a flourish of his blue coat, leaving the now silent child in his tracks. As he headed for the train doors, the packed crowd standing in his path shifted aside for him, like he was parting the Red Sea, just as a masculine, artificial voice stated; “We will shortly be arriving at Redgrave Market Station. Please stand clear of the doors for those exiting.”

“That’s our stop! You coming babe?” Dante called out over his shoulder, walking straight past Lady after his brother, as the train’s heavy doors slid open and bright artificial street light flooded through into the dim cabin. Illuminating their escape.

“Yep!” Lady exclaimed, embarrassingly high-pitched. Finding it hard to keep her cool with all these people, likely hundreds, staring at her. After quickly sparing a glance to check if the young boy was ok - which seemed to be the case, as his mother cradled the now crying child close to her chest, ironically finally paying him the scrap of obviously needed attention - the mercenary fled the train just as its metal doors slammed shut behind her.

This is gonna be hard, where do I even start?

1) Keith (Voltron: Legendary Defender)

Okay I'm- trying not to laugh too hard because oh boy, this show was a complete mess. BUT Keith still stays as one of my favorite characters ever just because no matter how badly I was hurt by vld he'll always be precious to me 💖 He's hotheaded, cool and a lone wolf, but needs affection more than anyone else on the team. He's easy for me to relate to as I am more likely to push someone away than to keep them close just to avoid being hurt as well. His development is amazing tho and I love love him so much 😭 also it might be just that I have a soft spot for emo characters lmao

2) Todoroki Shoto (Boku no Hero Academia)

This just reinforces my statement earlier since Todoroki is pretty emo too :') But in a different way than Keith. If you are a part of bnha fandom you know he's generally a little bit overrated, but I couldn't help falling in love with him at first sight anyway lol His backstory is tragic but he keeps pursuing his dream and damn is he good at it. Also the combo of fire and ice is aesthetic goals. However, what I admire the most about Shoto is probably his loyalty to his friends, his will to fight and sometimes his goofy attitude (even if he probably isn't aware that he's being goofy lol) In conclusion: I love him, let's move on.

3) Uenoyama Ritsuka (Given)

Can I just stop to say how much I love given for a moment? Like I've never seen a bl anime/manga that would portray gay characters so respectfully 😭❤️ Ue is basically me gay panicking, I feel the boy so much :') OH also what's up with gays & guitars bc first given, then why r u and now also 2gether :') (I might be falling in love with this trope help) okay so: Ue is panicking when he starts liking Mafuyu but he handles it so well in a way? He doesn't deny his crush even if he is slow to notice it lol He's straightforward and sometimes a little bit rough around the edges, but even if he's supposed to be "the cool guy" we see him in the most hilarious settings and that just makes me love him all the more 💖 he respects Mafuyu and his boundaries and I want more of that in bl anime please

4) Eiji & Ash (Banana Fish)

Uhhhh this anime,,, I CANNOT choose between Ash and Eiji, I'm gonna forever see them as a pair and that's simply it. Ash is another emo one I would like to say that but he's actually not. He's backstory is heartbreaking and the life he has to live is dangerous and scary. He gets used to this reality where he has no one to rely on and no one to trust but then Eiji appears tearing his walls down and making him finally be able to show his soft and sensitive side to someone. Eiji is like a salve for his wounds and yes, I'm still emotional about it bc their relationship is one of the best developped I've ever seen. Their bond is so strong it's beautiful, they would literally die for each other. It's so apparent that they love each other and care for each other so much (don't mind me crying in the corner)

5) Percy Jackson (Percy Jackson & the Olympians)

PJ technically got me into fantasy/sci-fi in elementary school and it stays at the top of my favorite book series list ever (big props to Uncle Rick 👏) The whole series is funny and I would say pretty light-hearted even tho you know,,, Percy saves the world several times, lol, usual demigod things™. He's lovable. Son of Poseidon so he has seaweeds instead of a brain (or so you thought, he is brilliant at strategic planning and has a charisma to be a great leader), has a very good sense of humor, is loyal and would risk everything for his friends. Also he loves his girlfriend very much and I was crying while reading the House of Hades but no one needed to know that oh well. I'm also gonna mention Nico de Angelo here, since he fell in love with Percy (didn't we all tho) and was the first gay character I saw portrayed in the book and oh do I love him 😭💖

6) 707 (Mystic Messenger)

Was I losing sleep over this game? I was. Do I regret anything? Absolutely not. I think my choices are pretty boring tho, since Seven is literally everyone's favorite but oh boy there's a reason for that. Apart from being a talented hacker who knows too much (and I think is cautious of us the most at the start) he has a lovely happy-go-lucky personality composed of all the lame jokes, questions "have you eaten already" and anxiety (another emo one). He's that type of a character who will always try to make you laugh but you never know what's going on inside his head. He's mysterious and we don't get to know him well till his route so pretty much till the end of the game lol. Also he loves his brother, phd pepper, honey buddha chips and Elizabeth 3rd the most in this entire world and I love him for that

7) Evan Hansen (Dear Evan Hansen)

ANOTHER EMO ONE okay but hear me out Evan has social anxiety and its portrayal is almost too real for me. He makes a big oopsie which at the start seems like a little innocent lie but then snowballs to enormous sizes. He gains everything in this bargain, a best (dead) friend, a caring mother, a father, a girlfriend even - and then everything falls apart since it all is built on one fat lie. He makes a lot of mistakes and then some more but you get it and you feel for him, and you cry with him and you're happy for him. And when all of this is over you're glad that he's still there trying his best, taking it one day at a time. And sidenote: Ben Platt's voice is angelic and I love him as Evan 💖💖💖

8) Isak (SKAM)

Another gay panicking one. I'm starting to realize there's a set of traits that I particularly like in fictional characters lol But ye, when I was watching skam ofc it was the third season which gripped me the most and kept me on the edge, bc yet again Isak taking an "are you gay" test was way too real for me. He makes a lot of mistakes along the way of figuring out his sexuality and sometimes stuff with Evan becomes really messy (for both of them) but he stays with him nevertheless ❤️ Skam is literally so good in its portrayal of the characters :') Anyways: alt er love 💖

9) Viktor & Yuuri (Yuri on Ice)

Em, another one that I absolutely can't break up to just one bc how could I? Yuri on ice got me into skating ❤️ I went to an ice rink for the first time bc of this anime and I almost died but now look at me actually finishing my first three months of ice skating training and watching real life figure skating competitions :') Little did I know then. But they're not only my favourites bc of that, I genuinely love the development of their relationship from fan - idol through skater - couch to lovers and history makers in the end. I love how Yuuri is a ball of insecurities and how Viktor manages to reassure him. I love how Viktor fell in love with drunk Yuuri clinging to him. I love how at first Yuuri wasn't able to get too close to Viktor without getting flustered and it changes so drastically to them basically always holding onto each other. I love how Viktor was stuck with no inspiration but then Yuuri came and turned his world upside down. I love how they support and respect each other. I could probably go on into eternity like that and Yuri on ice isn't even the best anime I've ever seen but it's certainly my favourite one ❤️

10) Tutor (WHY R U)

I can't believe I'm so obsessed with thai dramas rn and I'm only gonna include Tor on this list smh He's mental attitude inspires me. He's able to hold so much and appears totally unfazed even if he's barely holding on inside. He's hardworking and doesn't want others to pity him since he can manage it all just fine. He has a kind heart, he's a wonderful friend (especially to Hwa, he always listens to her, gives her pieces of advise, supports her and tries to cheer her up). He never forgets to say thank you when he genuinely feels grateful. But as we've seen he also is passionate and when he loves he LOVES. Also he's the biggest tease to Fighter and I love him for that :') I am so satisfied just by seeing him happy, please do not change that whyru gods 🙏

As it appears I'm done .-. I have no idea what have just happened and if my rambling even makes sense but not that I care at this point. If you read this far, please drink some water now, that was a lot of reading to go through ❤️
