im a new reader of your blog and id just like to say that i really admire how youre able to observe jaedo and their relationship so well! i remember trying to “observe and analyze” all my previous kpop ships (+ jaedo, before i found this blog) and it would just consist of me watching videos on youtube and “moments” on tumblr and twitter 😅

i also found it really difficult assessing relationships because i always thought that everything an idol did was scripted, especially in front of a camera, as they are public figures whose jobs rely on their image. i didnt know it was possible to read an idol so well solely based off their body language!

basically, reading this blog really changed my perception on real-person relationships, how one really needs to put in time in effort to look through all the content and each persons individual personality and relationships with others. yeah, thats all i have to say. i just felt the need to let you know that i found your blog very helpful ☺️

JaeDo is an easy case, to be honest. Jaehyun is super transparent, and JaeDo did a lot of lives right before and after their transition from friends to lovers. Thus it was possible to compare their relationship and pinpoint a serious shift in their dynamic. From that time on it was just continued observation to cement the initial conclusion, support it with additional facts and events.

Actually, the "honeymoon" vlives (the two with Taeil) were one of the first lives I watched with the two soon after me getting into NCT. However, I needed to see more of them and comeback to those lives with new knowledge and understanding to read it the right way.

Yes, there is a lot of fanservice and a lot of image building with idols. With LGBT it can be double-layered: a persona to hide the orientation in daily life/pass as straight or/and neurotypical, and a persona to make an interesting idol on top of that. However, noone can control oneself 24/7. The idol image will be abandoned behind the cameras, it will start to slip off during a long interview or when one is sick/tired. The body will betray the orientation reacting to a stimulus or a topic of conversation/a question. White lies and ommited facts will come out (the way dremies say JaeDo congratulate them with BDs together or how Ten said they visited his new apartment together).

For example, religious boy or not, Mark's brain likes to think dirty (or used to... maybe he outgrew his hormonal teenager phase). And when it's Doyoung talking about wanting to see Jaehyun's body (change bodies for a day to come out of the shower and look at himself in the mirror, enjoy the view), Mark asks about the dick (it was about muscles, Markie, muscles). While when it's Mark related, he remembers about boobs (was it in Top model? some group content). Things like that. And yes, unless someone did the job already for you (there used to be ship manifestos with arguments online in the past), you normally have to watch a lot to come across the moments that will make you sure in your suspicion.

In real life we are not attentive. It is socially forbidden to look at a person for a long time, we normally see that person in a setting, in similar situations. We project a lot or don't want to think badly, assume things about another person. Thus we often end up mistaken about the real character of other people or know them just from one side.

Meanwhile, idols are recorded and put into multiple various situations, their real characters are tested and revealed. You can't accuse Doyoung of being a racist out of the blue. It's a fact he offered a Thai and a Japanese to spend Christmas at his house, promised a Japanese to learn the language for him to have someone to speak with, helped a Chinese to learn Korean (even prepared homework), and pursues a black Korean to turn him into a new friend. As well as you can't accuse him of being homophobic after the live when he said the fan could have meant a boy-boy ot a girl-girl crush, that the girl-boy scenario Yuta offered was not a default one.

I went on a tangent. My point is that by observation it is possible to make a pretty realistic description of the real person behind the idol image. Not to the minute detail, of course, but in many cases even a better one that we make about people around us in real life.

One caveat. The observer has to be impartial to the outcome.

I'm often accused of being biased, skewing things to make JaeDo a thing or downplay some friendships. I'm not. I would be happy with JaeDo being friends the way I'm content with TaeDo being friends. Let's be honest, from a shipper's point Jaehyun still pining would be as entertaining. Ah, the perils of one-sided love. I would ship JaeYong if they were real even, and write about Doyoung as the 3d wheel. Doyoung would be free to ship him with his whole harem then, lol.

The problem with videos with "moments" is that those moments are taken out of context. For example, that video I linked with Do reacting to Johnny was correct in its reading but not in its interpretation. Doyoung couldn't stay calm with Johnny wooing him in the game (he gay paniced) but it was not because he had a crush on Johnny himself (as JohnDo shippers claim, it's a favourite moment of theirs). Additionally, many moments are simply not what they are offered as ("he looked at him longingly", when in reality he looked past him at the crowd of fans).

As for assesing correctly. Basics, basics first. What is the norm for the person, what are the everyday habits, what are the core character traits, any cultural differences that need to be taken into consideration. Is he gay or European. Can you switch a Doyoung with a Jungwoo or a Yuta and get the same result in a similar situation, or not.

And if there is old rookie footage, a must watch. Young idols are inexperienced, excited and often can't hide well, can't control what they say. Doyoung's own crush on Jaehyun during Rookies days was pretty obvious. Now it's hard to tell.

If you still choose to support him and try to harass the victim, even after seeing/reading about the crimes he has committed, you are part of the problem and part of the reason why it is so difficult for victims of assault to come forward. Hi. I'm sure that nobody expected me to come back, and I'll be honest, I wasn't expecting to. I'm just so disgusted with recent events that I want to post my thoughts in a location where anybody will understand what I'm talking about, as nobody in my day to day life even really tolerates kpop

As everybody knows, a lot has happened recently. And yeah, I've got a lot of emotions. I'm devastated to find out how much of a disgusting human Taeil is, and just in general, the wave of disgusting misogyny that's been going on in South Korea is absolutely horrifying.

However, I'm here to talk about my disgust in the state of kpop fans and the abysmal behavior some show. Mind you, i know very well that its very much not everyone. I've spent enough time in the community to know that there are plenty of people who are capable of being normal about their relationship with the idols, even while being a stan who cares about nothing but them. I have a history of parasocial relationships and I firmly believe that you can absolutely obsess over celebrities without being a psychopath. That being said, it's also a very fine line and I've seen some absolutely disgusting shit here.

None of these men belong to you. None of these men owe you a fucking thing. They are there to make you music, give you dances that you can enjoy, and serve you looks, depending on your style per era. They don't owe you abstinence and this is frankly something I've hated even while I was frequenting this site. I know full well that i personally have gotten a little too deep into shipping and crushing on idols. Do you know what happened during the two time an idol that i obsessed over/shipped with people referred to being in a relationship while being an idol? I felt a pang of disappointment and then I decided that as long as they're happy, I'm happy. Do you know what happened to them? One of them could only talk about it after leaving the industry, and the other lost their contract at their company. There's absolutely zero reason why an idol can't live their life alongside being an idol. They're not dolls, they're human beings with human lives.

Now, I left the community years ago. I still listen to the songs I used to listen to, but that's about the extent of where my kpop Fandom journey is anymore. I've also technically started rewriting some of the story ideas I had while excluding the kpop aspects, but that's an entirely different thing.

However, I do still like the occasional kpop post on Twitter, and today, my page was full of learning of a man named Seunghan from a band Riize. I've never heard of him, nor have I heard of this band prior to this controversy. However, the shit that's going on with this is unreal. You're telling me that this 21 year old got bullied into going on hiatus because he smoked a cigarette and dated someone? And then as soon as he came back, people sent funeral wreaths to SM over it? That's abhorrent. The girlfriend thing I've already touched on, he doesn't owe you anything, let alone abstinence from a time before he was famous. The cigarette, sure that's not good. Death threats are so much worse?? Most people have done something bad at some point in their life that doesn't at all reflect who they are now, and frankly, even if he still smokes, what the fuck are you helping with this behavior? Show concern, don't act like he's your fucking doll who's not acting how you want.

I'll be honest, I don't think the people that have or currently follow me are the kinds of people to do this thing. However, if somehow one of the people who engaged in this see this (especially those girls dancing in front of the wreaths uggggh), in complete, 100% seriousness, get some fucking help. You're entering into a parasocial state that is far beyond the acceptable state and has passed into psychotic behavior, and you need to find how to work that out because you've already emotionally hurt people and you're well on your way to physically hurting people, if you haven't already.

And if you haven't been one of the people who have been doing this but you don't see a problem with it, you get some help too. You might feel that you're not doing anything to anybody but as far as I'm concerned, you're just as part of the fucking problem. You might not have engaged in this action, but you very well could to other idols in the future, or God forbid people in your life. This kind of obsession can very easily translate over to behaviors and entitlement to partners, friends, family, none of which are people you're entitled to either. I couldn't fathom looking at this and feeling like this is at all okay.

I can't say if I'm gonna uninstall Tumblr and go back to staying my nose out of things or if I'm going to pop in once and a while as a casual, especially since I'm sure my page has been dead long enough that nobody cares if I come back but I got so heated over this that I needed to put all my thoughts out there, even if nobody sees it

I've answered the question of where I see SM in 5 years here <- that's from about a month ago.

My view of Baekhyun and Taemin both jumping ship is that they were overdue. It was always a question of when not if. SM has a long, prolific history of bleeding talent and abusing their idols - that company is quite literally the worst offender among the Big3 just going by the number of lawsuits filed every 3 - 5 years from idols under their management. And this is aside the fact that SM is the only major company that compels their artists to sign 10-year contracts using a legal loophole, where the industry standard is 7 years. The reason SM's known practices aren't talked about more in fact, is because SM also has the largest amount of company stans in the wider k-pop fandom who strongly influence where scrutiny is placed.

And that reason is why even if this snowballs, it won't change anything dramatically for the company, because nobody is more committed to keeping illusion of SM's legacy/prestige alive more than fans of SM groups.

That said, based on debut dates, the group next up for contract negotiations is NCT. Because most of the founding members have promoted outside Korea (the legal loophole SM uses), this means they have 10-year contracts and so they'll only begin negotiations from the latter half of this year through 2026. As some of the members are due to enlist starting this year (Taeil, Jaehyun, Doyoung and Taeyong are the four oldest Korean members), it's assumed they are speedrunning negotiations ahead of that deadline, and it could be why we've seen solo and sub-unit projects for Taeil, Taeyong, Jaehyun and Doyoung in the last year. I'm highlighting those four in contrast to a member like Mark, who is easily NCT's most prominent member (alongside Taeyong) who still doesn't have a solo EP, and it's probably just a coincidence that he's Canadian and not up for military service. And so his negotiations can happen much later. Given the state of SM's dwindling idol portfolio and how they've been handling NCT so far, I expect almost all the members to re-sign (WayV is the wild card here), but I expect more bleeding from EXO and other legacy acts.

Anyway, I'm already rambling.

Baekhyun/Taemin have been associated with SM for a decade and that's not going to change even with them leaving the company, for two reasons:

They are still signed under SM for group activities.

SM stans won't relinquish that connection no matter how hard those idols attempt to rebrand their image. Like I've been saying, most fans of SM groups are actually company stans despite what they'll tell you.

So long as the make-up of k-pop fandoms remain dominated by SM stans, nothing is changing significantly for SM in this space in the next 5 years. Their new girl group will debut to much fan fare, Taemin and Baekhyun will continue being included in conversations about SM talent and influence, and SM company norms will continue as they have like every other time a high-profile talent has left their company - just fine.

The one caveat I didn't include in my prior post (linked above) but feel compelled to include now, is that the non-compete HYBE placed on Lee Sooman in 2023, expires in 2026. Given everything I've mentioned about how SM operates and the cult-like following LSM has both with his staff and k-pop stans generally, if he establishes a competing agency in the next 5 years, that could dramatically impact the life of SM Entertainment beyond any of the expected M&A scenarios I mentioned in point 3 of my linked post.

Overall, expect more of the same but there's a chance we get more fun times ahead. :)

in general, I write MOST idols as bisexual but if we're getting very specific about our wonderful NCT boys (including Shotaro, Sungchan and Lucas bc I write for them, too, but please feel free to ignore their names if you're not into it!)

One psychiatrist with 20+ years of practice talked about his early years, when he had crowds of recently-divorsed women. Both JaeDo are men of habit, they don't like change, and they are pretty encapsulated in their NCT world, their lives are very intervined regardless of being boyfriends.

When Ten and Johnny somehow managed to hurt Doyoung, he couldn't forgive them for two years. And Ten and Doyoung were never even too much close. When Mark and Doyoung had a disagreement, we also saw it, and it also lasted more than a year. Taeil was excluded from NCT - Doyoung went silent for two weeks on bubble. When Jaehyun was angry at Taeyong he couldn't hide his temper and sabotaged their concert performances (the fanservice part). Jaehyun is so bad at supressing his emotions he releases his pent up frustration on curtains and does silent treatment when moody. Idol duties be damned. Now, think how close Jae and Do are, and what it will mean for boyfriends to become exes, what it will entail, how it will affect other neos like Haechan and Mark.

You will see a biblical scale disaster unfold. It will be a tsunami. Won't go unnoticed.

you will never see these kind of moments from any dream member, hendery openly said in unbelelieable they are only close infront of cameras, all dream members get renjun back while best leader of the universe were ignoring whole ww hate train and saying his fans to ten seperated the cats from him on bubble (make kuntenners attack ten). like everything about wayv from last 2 years is just fake and fanservice. i used to love them so much i dont remember last time i enjyed their content. idc what they are doing or what they are releasing but keep seeing their fans bitching about dream friendship pissing me off so bad.

dream grew up together and they're all very close in ages. they have gone through so much hardships together, lost mark, gained mark, and really just suffered a lot to get where they are today. wayv debuted as adults, and although the age gap is quite close to dream it's still larger and obvious when you point out how the group is technically both millenials and gen z, two different generations. 127 is also this problem, but i don't see the group trying to push the family agenda that often. plus xj, yy, and dery debuted in nct way later than ten, lucas, ww, and kun did so there is often a divide on closeness there.

the reason wayv is my ult group is not bc of the group dynamics at all. i stanned the group for winwin (obviously) but i also appreciated wayv's talent and discography. I believe that all members of wayv were seriously talented and underappreciated as a group so i loved them a lot.

now i'm also slowly falling out of love with the group because ww isn't there anymore, the music has been kinda shit since he was on hiatus, and the fanservice things have been so weird, especially coming from a group were i only had one bias and pretty much no wreckers.

i'm attracted to the unique personalities of dream, the strong dynamic and friendship the group has. sure they're talented, but dream truly feels like they love and appreciate each other. that's something that's always stood out to me about dream.

idk where people came up with the idea that wayv bond is stronger than dream, but i'm pretty sure wayv bond was lost after lucas scandal happened. being in the basement seriously tore wayv apart and i'm sure that the members themselves felt like this was the end for wayv bc that was always the worry of fans too. throughout this time friendships were kinda just put on hold. you can see the genuine friendship in videos from pre lucas scandal to now. a scandal can really do it to a group.

hendery always has this idgaf attitude lol like. he seems like a crazy chaotic person that everyone gets along with like johnny, but unlike johnny i don't think the bond is truly there. he's just there for the ride. which i gotta respect.

also there was never a wayv ship i practically liked. dream and 127 i loved some dynamics. biggest dynamic i liked in wayv? wayv members with other group members lol. i like renjun-yangyang's friendship, i like ten-johnny's friendship, i like winwin-jaehyun's friendship. it's always wayv member with another subgroup member. never wayv member with wayv member. although maybe i like winwin ten. or maybe i just like any ww pairing except for yuwin and taeil and winwin (even before jaeil i thought this was so uncomfortable to watch.)
