Penny squeezed her eyes tight and crossed her fingers. Ocean quickly fixed up her braids. Mischa was quite too busy being on his phone to care.

"Richard Potts with his creative and dazzling outfit!"

Ricky didn't expect to win, but he did get to gloat about how the big bag of Reese's that Ocean had been vying for was now his.

"The Space Age Bachelor Man reigns supreme once again!"

Ricky was passing around the Reese's he'd won to his friends, and even Ocean had to admit it was a really smart idea.

"Not even Noel and his actual Lola Lola costume won this year," she teased, playing around with her Dorothy braids.

"At least I went as Lola Lola this year," Noel snapped, stealing some of Mischa's Sour Patch Kids.

"You guys just need to see that Ricky's costume was clearly the best," Constance mumbled, her dress of pinks, blues, purples, and golds getting crumbs from the candies she gleefully munched on.

"And you get an A for creativity," Penny said, fixing her skirt. She had went as herself, Jane Doe, so it was hard to explain the context of her in her uniform, slightly torn, with a face full of doll-like makeup.

"Whatever the case, Space Jesus won the day," Mischa said, slapping Ricky on the back with pride. He hadn't tried very hard for the contest, just thrown on some of his most inappropriate apparel and said he was "the modern teenager's brain."

"Yes, he did," Ricky signed happily, fixing up his wig with a cheeky grin.

The rest of the Halloween night was full of fun and laughs, as Ocean led the others to a candy filled mayhem of trick-or-treating, Mischa getting irresponsible and stealing candy, which led to the six of them rushing to Constance's house for spooky movies and orange and black themed treats.

happy ( early ) halloween, chat :)

wasnt the biggest fan of how this turned out, between the perspective, luis face being a bit too thin compared to hers, and how her face is shaded a bit differently and she stands out a bit too much. BUT i love being cringe i love drawing ocs and ccs being besties i love posting it to the internet.. anyways, anyone doing anything cool for halloween? im going to a scare house with my friend this weekend, and then im taking my little cousins trick or treating :)

syd and andy are my detectives who would be most into halloween, so i'll do one answer for each of them

trick (syd)

the worst halloween costume syd has ever come up with is also her go-to halloween costume 5 years running: she goes as a vampire. the costume is made up of plastic fangs she bought at a dollar store and a black garbage bag she cut in half and fashioned into a cape (which she put together the night before a halloween party she forgot she'd promised to attend years ago, and if it ain't broke, don't fix it). in the years since, tina has tried to persuade her to at least upgrade the quality of the cape to fabric, but syd refuses (the plastic garbage bag cape is part of the joke now). she does not change this once she starts working with unit bravo

andy really strikes me as a jolly rancher sour gummy worm type of girl. something with a kind of fruity taste, maybe a bit of tartness or sourness. i think she would eat those jolly rancher candies by the fistful

Samhain's miracle

What if instead of the regular Sydcarmy as an already-established couple who attends a Halloween party dressed as ANOTHER iconic duo (which is still great, don't get me wrong), they are who they are, these 2 idiots in love who can't even admit it to themselves, let alone confess and they are in this dry patch of hell, post-S3, Syd is still contemplating leaving but hasn't decided yet, neither has she decided to sign The Bear's agreement, she's not here nor there and Carmy, who senses everything is wrong between them and that everything is about to fall apart, finds a moment of solace away from all his troubles, when this random kid comes knocking on his door dressed as a mini chef with a little blue apron and he just melts the fuck down but also, all the alarms go off in his head: DON'T DO THIS! SAVE YOURSELF! DON'T BECOME A CHEF, YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW HARD IT IS, AND YOU'RE GONNA RUIN YOUR LIFE! But obviously doesn't say a word and smiles and gives the kid money instead, not without telling him to drop by later to get some treats (that he's gonna make with his bare hands from scratch). The kiddo smiles back and says: "Sure!".

So Carmy gets to work right away and makes these amazing spooky treats, all kinds of them: Glowing Black Widow Oreo Pops, Monster Oreo Truffles, Jack-O'-Lantern Sandwich Cookies, Hocus Pocus S'mores Pops, Creepy Caramel Apple S’mores, etc. About 90 minutes later he hears another knock on the door and he thinks it's the mini chef coming back to cash his Halloween raincheck but it's Syd. Her gloomy face tells him all. He's terrified. She's coming to say goodbye. He can feel it. He knew this day was going to come since he found out about Shapiro's offer, not so long ago. He kicks himself for having said nothing and for not fighting for her. Truth is he didn't want to pressure her or influence her decision in any way. He wanted her to do what she considered right and arrive at that conclusion on her own. She did, and now there she is, standing in front of him with a sad look on her face that speaks volumes, about to tell him that their time together at The Bear has come to an end, she will start over elsewhere but still, thanks him for the opportunity. All of this goes through his mind in a matter of seconds as they exchange glances and breathe the same statically charged air. They both feel like a storm is about to break. The kid suddenly shows up right behind her and when she turns to see him her heart melts, just like Carmy's did earlier. She can't help but show it with a long: "Awwwwww!". So Carmy, who up until that moment was entranced and carefully choosing his final words for his soon-to-be former business partner and someone who could have been soooo much more but never got to be, forces a smile for the kid and in a soft and almost playful tone that Syd never heard before coming from him, cheerfully says: "Hey buddy! Glad, you're back, chef. I was waiting for you, please come on in I have lots of candy for you, you're gonna love my Halloween menu!" The kid's eyes are now completely out of its pockets and that smile is out of this world. "WOOOOW! OMG! This is amazing! I've never seen soooo much candy in my entire life!" "Well, now you have, enjoy it! I especially recommend the Hocus Pocus S'mores Pops, I just had one myself. The kid took a bite and in a matter of seconds was blown away! "They have marshmallow in them! WHAT?!" "Yes, chef!" "OMG, thank you, Sir! This is insane! Best Halloween ever! Thanks!" "My pleasure! Don't forget those truffles!" "No way!" Syd, still by the open door holding her tote bag's handles with both hands for dear life, looks at the excited little chef and wishes him a Happy Halloween, moving out of his way to let him go carrying a bag full of delicious homemade candy by Carmen Berzatto and a bright, joyous and energetic spirit that lights up the whole room and brings a smile to her face too. Once the kid is gone, she looks back up to find Carmy looking back at her, with fingers covered in chocolate and smelling like caramel and she has a change of heart right there and then. Carmy, still silent, waiting for the worst, looks at her pleading mercy. "Sorry, it's almost midnight, I know." "No, it's OK. Come in, Syd. Please." "Yeah." "Sit down. Can I get you something?" "No, no, it's fine-I-I..." "You came here to quit?" She says nothing. All she can focus on is the smell that comes from the kitchen, that is nothing but unbelievable, and the slight mess on the counter that shows signs of having been through a lot lately. "No, Carmy, I came here to talk about this." She produces her cell from her bag and proceeds to check her email and sign the Docusign that has been sitting in her inbox for months. His phone buzzes and he looks at it but doesn't move to go get it. He just stands there. Petrified. Scared. "I need you to send me a new access link, this one expired. I wanna sign the agreement."

have a snippet of the time I tried to write a next generation city spies thing with a whole batch of children the original spies as adults adopted! (side note this is pre book 4 so we didn’t know there was actually going to be a Cairo in the books)

Sunnyvale was bored. More specifically, Sunny was tired of staying at home. She wanted a mission --- no, she needed a mission. It had been too long. (It had been three months. That was two months too long.) The FARM was nice, but it wasn't exciting enough. Like today?

Brooklyn and Paris, the adults nominally in charge of them, were discussing a grocery list of all things. Athens and Cairo were playing a video game. Madrid was reading a book. Lima was weaving. Nobody was doing anything interesting. So here Sunny was, sitting and staring at her homework, pretending to work and actually just being bored.

And then suddenly someone else was in the room. Sunny noticed them before she really saw what was happening --- someone was behind Paris, someone who hadn't been there a moment ago, and they'd all been in the room. And did that someone have a-- no, that was a-- why was there a knife at Paris's throat? And why was he laughing about it?

"Syd," he said, laughing in a way she'd never heard him laugh in all the two years she'd been part of the team (she had more experience than Cairo, but that was it, alas). "I haven't seen you in four years, and this is how you return? This? No phone call, no text, just Rio's joke knife to my throat?"

"Oh, please. I've been on active deployment to a warzone for two years and in deep cover for four, you wanna know how I greeted Tabby yesterday?"

Paris huffed, and Sunny had to wonder. What was going on? Why wasn't Paris worried that someone had apparently broken into the house? Why was Brooklyn stifling a laugh?

"Not in front of the kids, thank you," Paris said. "I gather it's over?"

"My role, at least. Now it's time for Ellie King to do a little reporting closer to home."

"And," Brooklyn said, "for Sydney Gibbs-Montgomery to be a little more present in her siblings' lives?"

"Oh, please," the person (Sydney? Ellie? Syd?) said. "I'd rather spend time with my dear father-in-law, obviously. Why do you think I'm here, Brook? Just to say hi? I haven't even met any of my niblings ever, of course I'm sticking around for a bit." She paused. "Well, I'll be in London with Tabs, but I'm coming up every weekend, mind!"

Hi syd!! 💕 how’ve you been? (I’ve been busy and in desperate need of some time off) who is the one who does most of the cooking? Demi or Jesse? Do Demi and Jesse have any friends outside of their immediate circle? Does baby ever go trick or treating and what would she dress as?

im sorry u've been so busy!! :( i hope ur taking good care of urself and resting up well, im mailing u a blanket and a nice warm hug. and ive been pretty good!! just trying to do my work with occasional breaks for the Indulgences (<- alaska). jesse is the one who does most of the cooking!! its my personal hope and dream that he finds cooking a nice, soothing activity since theres a pretty rigid step by step set of instructions to follow and the outcome is something Good. he's creating something good!! demi can make like toast or some rice in a pinch, but shes not particularly good at cooking, so their labor is pretty evenly divided so that he does the cooking and she does the cleaning. it takes both of them a while to make friends and they're never going to be like Social Butterflies, but they do eventually befriend a few parents through baby's schooling and community members, especially once demi's practice expands and the kennel becomes a go-to spot for stray animals in all the local counties, meaning more volunteers are needed and more people are met :) and as for trick or treating, baby actually doesnt go for several years. josephine and mason take her when she's three, but baby is so scared that they only hit like two houses before going back home; attempts to take her out next year just lead to the same result. the darkness and the bright, scary decorations and kids in costumes really, really scare her, so much so that she doesn't try again until she's eight. she goes as a deep sea diver (this choice is inspired by my little sister going as a seaworld trainer for one halloween which yes is problematic and she should be cancelled) and doesn't stay out for super long, but she's able to get some candy!! she trick or treats for the next few years and while she never strays far from home and avoids the houses with the decorations that jump out or move, she has fun and feels safe with both of her parents there :'')

Sydcarmy Halloween would be cute. Sugar and Syd trying to convince Carmy to go have fun on Halloween and he keeps declining to do so. Even Richie is going to go trick or treating with his daughter and invites Carmy along. He gives in sort of last minute, the day before, Syd says he can come along with her, so Syd thinks it would be fun to be Bob & Linda Belcher. or with no couple's costume Syd HAS to be Princess Tiana.

WAY DOWN HADESTOWN FOR YOU THEN!

Orpheus was a poor boy, but he had a gift to give. And bringing the world back into tune was what he did. With his wife, now rescued from Hadestown's dark clutches, the world breathed easier with spring and fall brought back.

So much so, in fact, that Persephone invited the lovebirds to her fall departure party.

"Oh, you came!" The hostess and Goddess of Spring eagerly handed the couple cooled glasses of wine to enjoy during the festivities.

"Couldn't miss an invitation from the Lady of Spring herself," Orpheus said brightly. Eurydice smiled warmly.

"We couldn't thank you enough for inviting us."

Persephone smiled. "Well, of course, sweetheart! You brought the world back to life again, you deserve endless celebrations."

And celebrations there were. Without the Fates and their tricks to spoil their fun, the lovers danced, laughed, drank, and sang with the rest of the partygoers, including Orpheus' caretaker, the god Hermes.

"Sing it, Perse," Hermes was shouting, as Persephone laughed crisply and continued her loud song and dance.

Midway through the party, Persephone asked Orpheus to provide a speech, one the poet was eager to deliver. Eurydice watched in pride and love as he spoke of the falling leaves and abundance in harvest.

"And we owe it all to the lovely Lady of Spring, who always fills our cups as she lives it on top, Orpheus finished with a warm smile. Persephone beamed, her face slightly flushed from dancing and drinks.

Eurydice pulled Orpheus away from the crowds. "You were beautiful," she said happily, and Orpheus just smiled.

They danced together, in love and in happiness, as the setting sun set the orange leaves ablaze.
