Star Ware Rebels Bechdel Test Rewatch- 2x14 ‘Legends of Lasat’
Plot
Thanks to intel from the space pirate Hondo, the Ghost crew rescue two Lasat from Imperial clutches. These survivors believe Zeb is the key to a prophecy that will lead to a new home for their kind—but Zeb, conflicted and ashamed of his failure to save Lasan, has little faith
Female Characters: 3
Hera Syndulla, Sabine Wren, Chava
Male Characters: 7
Zeb Orrelios, Ezra Bridger, Kanan Jarrus, Aleksandr Kallus, Hondo Ohnaka, Kassius Konstantine, Gron
Droid Characters: 1
Chopper
Does it pass?
It’s the bare minimum, but yes, this episode passes. Sabine and Hera exchange a few lines of dialogue in the cockpit of the Ghost on the way to Lira San. This one felt like someone told Filoni what the Bechdel Test was and he made sure this made the absolute minimum requirement.
I enjoy seeing Zeb in the spotlight, but I wouldn’t say this is one of my particularly favorite episodes of Rebels. It’s enlightening to learn more about his history and to see the Lasat find a new home, but overall feels like filler.
I think Hondo can be overused in The Clone Wars and Rebels but I forgot he was even in this episode and he stole the show consistently. He definitely livens this one up.

Hi! After watching the trailer for TBB S02 I'm also a bit nervous about Crosshairs further development. On the other hand massive parallels between Star Wars Rebels - The Honourable Ones and especially the last two episodes of TBB season 1 exist. In case you saw SWRebels: Do you think this could be used to predict Crosshair's journey because of the heavy analogy between the used tropes? What is your opinion on this matter? Thank you!
Hiya! I apologize it took me so long to get to this ask, I haven't seen rebels but your ask got me curious so I went and looked up the episode you mention!
Honestly I can see this working. From what I understand (and I'm sorry if I get any of this wrong, I'm relying on a plot summary of the episode) there's two things we need for a similar situation to happen:
two characters with opposing views getting the chance to talk to each other, effectively pulling one out of the echo chamber they're trapped in - because let's be honest, the Empire is rife with propaganda and
those two characters cooperating or having some kind of positive experience together that helps one of them realize how different that is from the Empire
And call me crazy but I think this could work even better with Cody and Crosshair, if Cody manages to break the chip's conditioning. We know that they interact from the trailer and I can see them working together. I went back to rewatch parts of episode 1 of TCW season 7 and Crosshair is almost concerned (?) for Cody there. He's certainly not being his usual hostile and dismissive self towards him and he's the first to point out that Cody is in no condition to move when Rex says they should keep going. So that's a good start there.
Or you could substitute Cody with someone from the batch but I'm more skeptical about that happening... There's a good portion of resentment there on Crosshair's part and they already tried to talk some sense into him on Kamino. I also think the whole 'point your guns at him right after he saves Omega' kind of ruined any chance of a positive experience there. Though admittedly they do cooperate at certain points.
The bad batch seems so focused on Omega that I'm not even sure Crosshair will rejoin them if he does manage to break from the Empire. But you're right, if they use the same elements from rebels we could get a very nice development for Crosshair!
#tbb crosshair#the bad batch#tbb#I'm sorry I took this in a completely different direction 😭#this was so fun to answer though

definitely quite enjoying rewatching swrebels. like it is pretty cheesy at times but it’s... generally gentle and fun, and the small scale is a welcome change of pace (even though things are probably going to escalate eventually). i especially like blatant lesbian sabine and i’m looking forward to her future plots.
of course, like all things, it’s improved by watching it with your gf. <3 @syntheticmodularity

Star Ware Rebels Bechdel Test Rewatch- 2x12 ’A Princess on Lothal’
Plot
While Ezra grapples with the news about his parents, the rebels make plans with Senator Bail Organa to secure three much-needed cruisers. Leading the mission is an agent hand-picked by the Senator: his daughter, Leia
Female Characters: 3
Leia Organa, Hera Syndulla, Sabine Wren
Male Characters: 5
Ezra Bridger, Kanan Jarrus, Zeb Orrelios, Ryder Azati, Yogar Lyste
Droid Characters: 1
Chopper
Does it pass?
I’m going to say yes, but with a huge asterisk.... it’s a shame because we meet the original Woman in Space, the one and only Princess Leia Organa in this episode. Leia never actually speaks to another woman in the Original Trilogy, so it would’ve been nice to see her interact with Hera and Sabine more.
The passing scene in the episode is aboard the Ghost when the crew is trying to figure out a plan to steal the ships provided by Leia from the Empire. Leia speaks to the crew at large to encourage them...Hera and Sabine have lines of dialogue directly after this, so I’m going to go ahead and count it.
Leia spends the majority of her time with Ezra and Kanan, helping Ezra through the fresh loss of his parents. It makes sense that Phoenix squadron would cross paths with her at some point, and this is a fun episode, but I’m glad this is her only appearance. I think it’s very smart that Rebels used established film characters sparingly. Lando, Leia, Obi-Wan, and Vader are all out there doing their thing, but this show is about the Ghost crew at the end of the day. Honestly, even Ahsoka is used with restraint here. It’s a decision I appreciate more and more as I rewatch.

Star Wars Rebels Bechdel Test Rewatch- Season 2 Recap
I’m all done with Season 2! I’m flying through this rewatch. This show is great in a binge watch. In terms of the Bechdel Test, Season 2 was a marked improvement. Let’s see how it did overall.
15 out of 22 episodes in Season 2 pass the Bechdel Test. This is up from 8 out of 15 episodes in Season 1. This is also more passing episodes than any single season of The Clone Wars which peaked at 11 passing episodes in Seasons 3 and 5.
The passing Season 2 episodes are: “The Siege of Lothal (Parts 1 and 2),’ ‘Always Two There Are,’ ‘Wings of the Master,’ ‘Blood Sisters,’ ‘The Future of the Force,’ ‘Legacy,’ ‘A Princess on Lothal,’ ‘The Protector of Concord Dawn,’ ‘Legends of Lasat,’ ‘The Call,’ ‘Homecoming,’ ‘Shroud of Darkness,’ ‘The Forgotten Droid,’ and ‘The Mystery of Chopper Base.’
The strongest episodes in terms of representation with 4 female named female characters with speaking roles each are ‘The Siege of Lothal (Part 1)’, ‘The Future of the Force,’ ‘Shroud of Darkness,’ and ‘The Mystery of Chopper Base.’ I terms of actual dialogue exchanged between women, I’d say ‘The Future of the Force’ was the strongest overall
There are 13 named female characters with speaking roles in Season 2, up quite a bit from the measly 4 we got in Season 1. By comparison, there are 29 named male characters with a speaking role in Season 2, which is only slightly up from 26 in Season 1. Of the 13 characters, 9 were new to the series. It’s also worth noting that 3 out of the 13 are killed before the end of the Season (Minister Tua, Deiser, and the Seventh Sister). Ahsoka also disappears at the end of the Season.
The characters who recurred the most frequently are:
Hera Syndulla- (20 Episodes)
Sabine Wren- (20 Episodes)
Ahsoka Tano (9 Episodes)
Seventh Sister (6 Episodes)
Ketsu Onyo (2 episodes)
Every episode in Season 2 featured at least 2 female characters with speaking roles. This is a big improvement from The Clone Wars. The only characters to appear in every episode were Ezra, Kanan, and Chopper.
Season 3 let’s goooooooo!

Star Ware Rebels Bechdel Test Rewatch- 2x17 ‘The Honorable Ones’
Plot
Zeb and Agent Kallus find themselves stranded on an icy moon of Geonosis after a failed Imperial ambush of the rebels. Bitter enemies, they must put aside their differences and work together in order to survive
Female Characters: 2
Hera Syndulla, Sabine Wren
Male Characters: 6
Zeb Orrelios, Alexsandr Kallus, Ezra Bridger, Kanan Jarrus, Rex, Kassius Konstantine
Droid Characters: 1
Chopper
Does it pass?
No, it does not pass. Hera and Sabine are featured pretty well in the first act of the episode, but they never speak to each other.
Were there Zeb and Kallus shippers before this episode or was this when they were born? I’m all for some gay representation so no hate there, I can’t quite get past the interspecies thing but who am I to kink shame anyone.
Seriously though, Kallus’ about-turn is one of my favorite things about the show. He is sympathetic for the first time here....and honestly he has been pretty fucking despicable up to this point. This is a really great episode for Zeb too. I love how he gets Kallus thinking about actually asking some questions.
I also totally forgot Geonosis is in this episode and that we get some Death Star lore. Attack of the Clones has not aged well for me, but I loved it when it came out and I’m always happy to see Geonosis.... and I was genuinely curious what happened to them after the war.

Star Ware Rebels Bechdel Test Rewatch- 4x13 'A World Between Worlds'
Plot
Now inside the Jedi Temple portal, Ezra finds himself in a place like no other.
Female Characters: 3
Hera Syndulla, Sabine Wren, Ahsoka Tano
Male Characters: 4
Ezra Bridger, Zeb Orrelios, Minister Hydan, Sheev Palpatine
Droid Characters: 1
Chopper
Does it pass?
It's close, but this episode passes at the very end when Hera and Zeb rescue Sabine from Minister Hydan.
This is another episode that is not only peak Rebels but peak Star Wars. I haven't watched this in 5 years and it was such a thrill. I get chills every time we first hear Qui-Gon, Yoda, and Obi-Wan in the World Between Worlds.
After a 34 episode absence, Ahsoka is back! Ezra drags her into the timeline and sets her up for her own live action spinoff. In all seriousness, it always brings me so much joy when he pulls her through the portal. Ezra is faced with the possibility of saving Kanan, but in the end he respects he Masters decision to sacrifice himself to save the rest of them. Very emotional stuff.
Not only that, but Ahsoka and Ezra face off against Sheev himself! I love this version of the Emperor. I find this to be his most chilling depiction outside of Return of the Jedi.
Sabine gets some fun stuff to do as she talks shit to Minister Hydan and constantly reminds him that she's smarter than him. She also gets him to reveal to her how to close the portal.

Star Ware Rebels Bechdel Test Rewatch- 3x07 ‘Imperial Supercommandos’
Plot
When the rebels lose contact with Concord Dawn, Sabine, Ezra, Chopper, and Mandalorian prisoner Fenn Rau investigate. They find an unexpected, deadly new threat waiting.
Female Characters: 2
Hera Syndulla Sabine Wren
Male Characters: 6
Ezra Bridger, Kanan Jarrus, Zeb Orrelios, Fenn Rau, Gar Saxon, Jun Sato
Droid Characters: 1
Chopper
Does it pass?
Yes, but it’s literally the bare minimum. In the opening briefing scene, Hera tells Sabine to take Rau, Ezra, and Chopper to Concord Dawn for a reconnoissance mission...and reminds her not to wreck the newly found Phantom II. Sabine replies “Understood.” So....technically that’s a pass!
This isn’t the best episode, but I’ve always had a soft spot for it. I just find the whole jetpack canyon chase sequence very charming. I wouldn’t necessarily consider myself a Sabine/Ezra shipper but this episode makes me root for it a little. Ezra falling onto Chopper and then replying to his warbles with “I know it was an accident!” gets me every time.
Sabine’s backstory is given to us like bread crumbs but we get a few morsels in this one. We learn her family is “loyal” to the Empire but likely because they have no choice. Fenn Rau is an interesting character but I don’t feel like Rebels ever used him to his full potential. I think he could have been an early death in Season 4 to help raise some stakes.
Saxon is a formidable villain.... I always think he plays a bigger role in the series but this is only one of his two appearances.

Star Ware Rebels Bechdel Test Rewatch- 4x14 'A Fool's Hope'
Plot
While Hera is off-world to recruit more allies, Ezra hatches a plan to free Lothal.
Female Characters: 4
Hera Syndulla, Sabine Wren, Arihnda Pryce, Ketsu Onyo
Male Characters: 11
Ezra Bridger, Zeb Orrelios, Rex, Alexsandr Kallus, Rukh, Ryder Azadi, Hondo Ohnaka, Gregor, Wolffe, Cikatro Vizago, Melch
Droid Characters: 1
Chopper
Does it pass?
So, fun fact: I was so engrossed by this episode I completely forgot to track anything in terms of the Bechdel Test and had to watch it again! Sadly, while it does get close at points, it does not pass. There are moments when Hera and Ketsu or Sabine and Pryce are in group scenes, but they don't speak directly to each other. Ketsu is in the cockpit with Hera on the Ghost at least, does that count? No? Ok.
It's too bad, because the first part of the series finale is a great episode. We are reunited with some of our favorite supporting allies we've met over the seasons. I actually found Hondo's affection for Ezra to be pretty moving this time around. I also forgot how little Rex and Kallus are in this season. I've missed them! I kinda wish they had been on Lothal the whole time with the Spectres... but oh well.
Sabine gets some kick ass action moments but otherwise is in more of a supporting role here. I'm glad her and Zeb get a moment to shine at least. And so does Hera....ramming into the Imperial transport is iconic.
The battle is very exciting, Rukh cannot be killed, the wolves are savage, Pryce is tricked, the Star Wars theme when the Ghost comes to the rescue.. there's a lot to love here. But still doesn't pass.

Star Ware Rebels Bechdel Test Rewatch- 4x12 'Wolves and a Door'
Plot
Ezra and Sabine go to the Jedi Temple on Lothal...and discover that the Empire has reached it first.
Female Characters: 2
Hera Syndulla, Sabine Wren
Male Characters: 4
Ezra Bridger, Zeb Orrelios, Minister Hydan, Sheev Palpatine
Droid Characters: 1
Chopper
Does it pass?
Yes, there is enough chatter between Hera and Sabine over comms for this episode to pass.
I absolutely love how the Lothal Temple becomes so integral to the final act of the series. This episode raises the stakes in a major way. It is truly chilling to hear old Sheev's voice over comms. You can see the complete shock in the Spectre's faces.
One thing I appreciate is how much Sabine shines in Season 4. In earlier seasons, she tends to fall into a more supporting role, but Season 4 she is more of a co-lead with Ezra. I've really appreciated their relationship during this rewatch.
Hera and Zeb take a bit of a backseat here but Hera got a lot of focus in some of the last few episodes.
Minister Hydan is a really interesting character. I always wondered who the creepy old dudes in the Emperor's throne room were in Return of the Jedi. I think Hyland is a Sith cultist for sure.... what's that? An unintentional Rise of Skywalker connection?
It's worth noting that we hear Ahsoka and the Daughter in this episode, but it's part of the vision the crew has when they travel with the Loth-wolves, so I'm not counting it as an appearance. Same goes for Kanan and the Grand Inquisitor. Thrawn also appears, but it's a holorecording and therefore I also won't be counting it.

Star Ware Rebels Bechdel Test Rewatch- 4x10 'Jedi Night'
Plot
The rebels look to rescue Hera from the clutches of Governor Pryce and Grand Admiral Thrawn.
Female Characters: 3
Hera Syndulla, Sabine Wren, Arihnda Pryce
Male Characters: 6
Kanan Jarrus, Ezra Bridger, Zeb Orrelios, Grand Admiral Thrawn, Rukh, Wilhuff Tarkin
Droid Characters: 1
Chopper
Does it pass?
Well. Here we are. Yes, this episode passes several times when Pryce is torturing Hera in her office.
Obviously, this is a heavy episode that fills me with dread in general, but there are a lot of really sweet character moments. Drugged up Hera is a highlight for sure.
I honestly don't have much else to say about 'Jedi Night.' It's easily one of the best episodes of the series and Kanan's death is used to great effect in the final episodes. It definitely is up there in terms of most impactful deaths in Star Wars history. I saw it coming from a mile away when it originally aired, but that didn't make it hurt any less.
Thanks, I hate it.

Star Ware Rebels Bechdel Test Rewatch- 4x09 'Rebel Assault'
Plot
Hera leads the rebel attack on the Imperial blockade at Lothal, with Grand Admiral Thrawn determined to stop her.
Female Characters: 4
Hera Syndulla, Sabine Wren, Arihnda Pryce, Cleat
Male Characters: 10
Ezra Bridger, Kanan Jarrus, Zeb Orrelios, Ryder Azadi, Grand Admiral Thrawn, Rukh, Mart Mattin, Vult Skerris, Commander Woldar, Duke
Droid Characters: 1
Chopper
Does it pass?
This one barely squeaks by but it manages to pass in the final moments when Hera is captured by Pryce.
This episode is gorgeous. The opening space battle looks fantastic and is exceptional at invoking the feel of the space battles from the Original Trilogy. Seriously, I'd put this up there with the Battle of Endor and Scarif as some of my favorite space combat in Star Wars. And Hera takes out Vult Skerris! I definitely never tracked him veery well as a character on previous watches, so that was very satisfying. The shot of the Rebel fighters crashing over the capital is breathtaking as well.
Hera continues to be resourceful and kick some ass on the ground with the help of Chopper and Mart, but she is ultimately captured by Rukh and Pryce. The stakes feel incredibly high and I remember the first time watching this episode I was so nervous for Hera.
We also finally get a female pilot who gets a name! Hera calls her "Cleat" during the battle. While she does get a name, she is killed by Skerris shortly thereafter. RIP Cleat.

Star Ware Rebels Bechdel Test Rewatch- 4x08 'Crawler Commandeers'
Plot
In need of a long-range transmitter, the rebels look to infiltrate one of the Empire's massive ore crawlers.
Female Characters: 3
Hera Syndulla, Sabine Wren, Mon Mothma
Male Characters: 7
Ezra Bridger, Kanan Jarrus, Zeb Orrelios, Ryder Azadi, Captain Seevor, Cikatro Vizago, Bail Organa
Droid Characters: 1
Chopper
Does it pass?
It's another pass! Hera and Mon Mothma speak throughout, and in one of my favorite Hera moments, she convinces the Alliance leadership to strike against the TIE Defender factory.
Other than the scenes on Yavin 4... if I had to pick a least favorite Season 4 episode, it would be this one. That's not really a huge complaint as Season 4 is a very solid season.
The events around the crawler are hardly inconsequential, but this definitely feels like the most 'filler' of the entire season thus far.
Sleevor is a truly obnoxious antagonist but I think that's on purpose.

Star Ware Rebels Bechdel Test Rewatch- 4x07 'Kindred'
Plot
The rebels look to move a stolen Imperial hyperdrive and flight data recorder off Lothal, while the mystery of the loth-wolves deepens.
Female Characters: 4
Hera Syndulla, Sabine Wren, Arihnda Pryce, Mon Mothma
Male Characters: 7
Ezra Bridger, Kanan Jarrus, Zeb Orrelios, Ryder Azadi, Rukh, Jai Kell, Grand Admiral Thrawn
Droid Characters: 1
Chopper
Does it pass?
Yes, this is another passing episode! Sabine tells Hera she can install the hyperdrive in Ryder's U-Wing but isn't confident it will work in such an old ship. Hera tells her she believes she can do it. I also counted this as an appearance for Mon Mothma even though she doesn't speak... technically cheating but her and Hera exchange such a meaningful look at the end that I decided to count it.
As a fan of the original Thrawn Trilogy from the '90s, I was thrilled when they brought Rukh, Thrawn's Noghri assassin into the show. He's a much needed physical adversary in these final episodes to contrast the Thrawn and Pryce's more cerebral brand of villainy.
There's some really beautiful Kanan/Hera stuff in here too that makes this episode worth watching. Filoni starts going full swing with the Loth-Wolf stuff. Is it my favorite thing about this show? Not necessarily. But I do like that the planet of Lothal is also eager to be rid of the Empire and is working through the wolves. I just think they are used a little too much in this final stretch.
Best line of the episode by far when Ezra tells them to follow the wolves-
Zeb: This is good. When it gets strange like this, it's a good thing.
Ryder: How have you people stayed alive so long!?!

Star Ware Rebels Bechdel Test Rewatch- 4x04 'In the Name of the Rebellion, Part 2'
Plot
Saw Gerrera returns, determined to uncover an Imperial secret -- no matter the cost.
Female Characters: 2
Hera Syndulla, Sabine Wren
Male Characters: 5
Ezra Bridger, Saw Gerrera, Kanan Jarrus, Zeb Orrelios, Edrio Two Tubes, Captain Slavin
Droid Characters: 1
Chopper
Does it pass?
No, Part 2 is the first episode of Season 4 that doesn't pass. Sabine is off with Saw and Ezra for most of the episode. Hera only appears briefly at the very end when they reunite with the Ghost.
I'd also like to callout our female Darktrooper captain. She doesn't survive the episode, but she proves to be a formidable foe in 23 minutes. She does a lot more the Captain Phasma did in two whole movies. Sadly, this captain doesn't get a name.
Saw really is an asshole. This is pretty close to the events of Rogue One so he is pretty far gone at this point. It's certainly a valuable arc for Ezra to see what desperation to win can lead someone to. But yeah, Saw sucks but I do love Two Tubes and U-Wings! And a Krennic name drop. And giant kyber crystals and Death Star lore!
