The Nimona animated film is very good. The changes they made for adapting the medium worked really well, and were extensive enough in details (while keeping important themes!) that there was still mystery & surprise, even with having read the comic.

the only thing that immediately comes to mind is shattered glass. I haven't read it and am not too well-versed in it, so for now, that one is on the back burner.

I also shamefully have not gotten around to seeing tf: one yet, even though it's been out for a hot min. gotta watch that soon.

Misc thoughts & updates

I went on loa twitter for a minute last night and got so inspired by their hype over affirming, I decided to spend the rest of the night doing a “saturating session” as they say. I spent about one hour on one topic, listened to subs & affs on that topic while repeating the same 3-4 affs over and over. For about 10 min I did tapping on those affs. Then switched to a new topic.

I did it for pretty much the entire evening before I went to bed. I did it while chilling and watching Harry Potter and doing my regular night routine. As it got later I did psych-k while lying down in bed for maybe 15 min. Also did one big tapping session before bed.

But daaamn let me tell you I felt so good after that! Every time I woke up in the middle of the night, I found myself thinking my affs instead of whatever unconscious gibberish is usually coming up in the middle of the night. That’s how I know the saturating is working!

I feel oddly high on life today, like I am excited for something when there’s nothing to be excited about in my 3D. While of course logically I have known there’s everything to be excited about cuz I can shift and live my dream life any day now. But I guess I’ve also found it hard to believe so much that I haven’t actually been excited about it? Emotions are a good indicator of your state, so maybe I am just finally reaching the state of wish fulfilled?

Also funny I said the other day I wasn’t gonna focus on lucid dreaming and I haven’t been. Haven’t done any methods or anything for over a week but yesterday I had a spontaneous lucid dream. I became aware but I was groggy and not fully in control.

However my unconscious dream self started practicing the techniques I’ve learned for shifting or void, like affirming for more clarity and opening doorways and stuff. I ended up just waking up but I thought it was cool it all just happened unconsciously. I guess I became so detached it just happened without me thinking about it. Also proof I’ve been changing my unconscious mind ✌️

last tuesday in my apartment! going away for ~6 weeks! trying to be normal about it! posting this pretty early in the day compared to normal because i woke up insanely early from my roommate's cat yelling ... then i got bad period cramps and languished in bed with a heating pad for way too long ... did not end up going to my office today, oops ...

listening: like many others i have gotten sucked into the kendrick/drake Beef. i do sporadically listen to hip hop and rap in general but somehow had never gotten around to kendrick. better late than never, i suppose! this is not news but he's really good!! i listened to 'good kid, m.A.A.d city' for the first time and it's just really really good. i cannot recommend a Single Favorite Song the way i sometimes do with albums i like just because this is one of the ones that i let wash over me as an entire cohesive unit. do recommend if you have somehow lived under a rock like me.

reading: mostly fallow. some academic paper stuff. biting my nails about prelim exam things.

watching: dunmeshi and asobi.

playing: ran an insane dnd session saturday for the online weekly group that i got roped into earlier this year ... i'm glad i'm running it, i'm having a lot of fun with it, but my god. we decided to do a 'slightly' longer session than normal because we're not gonna get to play for about a month due to scheduling/travel of various people. it was Six Hours Long. AND THEY COULD HAVE KEPT GOING. killing myself For Real. but actually i do have fun i just. woof. i am excited to have a bit of a break from it. the only tabletop thing i will be doing with that group until like...june 8??? maybe even the week after? is i set up a spindlewheel spreadsheet for me and one of the players! he had to go awol for a few weeks and we're doing a little spindlewheel game as a way to plot out what his character was up to in that period, very fun, will be low-pressure and asynchronous.

and i went to life drawing again for the first time this year! i will not be back at that specific studio til july lol rip but i plan on going to a local place at least once when i'm at home :) 3 min poses, last sketchy one is a 5-minute, and then the hour long!

finally, the bookbinding stuff i did last week and forgor to post! the little one is scraps to test coptic binding, the bigger one behind it is going to be a travel journal for when i'm in the UK for two weeks :)

eating: really really fallow. a lot of eating out and scrounging frozens because i'm leaving town for a while. hoping to cook for my family while i'm at home. i did eat basically an entire jar of grilled olives from trader joes.

misc: i cannot believe how slow this semester went for most of it and then how fast it's been for the end. good god. i leave my apartment in an hour to go get my brother from the airport, we hang for a few days, and then off i go on saturday! fucked up for real! i'm very excited to see my boyfriend and then go abroad though (!!!), less looking forward to feeling like i'm trapped at home again, but maybe this time will be fine (doubt but hopeful). god i need to think about packing, huh. fuckin hell.

Kdrama misc.

Wedding Impossible: eps 1 & 2 are great, especially Jun Jung-seo as A-jeong, who gives her all into her craft even if the returns are so paltry. The first 2 eps build up the situation between her and Do-han into a fascinating hotbed of conflict, and I was onboard. Then ep 4 pissed away all that goodwill, in record speed. Why would A-jeong, who takes pride in acting, let Ji-han publicly woo her in Busan when she’s supposed to be his brother’s fiancé? And why was Do-han sectioned away in the story, prevented from knowing this? Ji-Han jerking around A-jeong, A-jeong letting him do it, it all felt old-school, and I don’t mean that as a compliment. And Moon Sang-min still needs another year playing supporting roles so he can build up a deck of facial expressions. Will watch a couple more eps, just in case it gets better.

Queen of Tears: I’ve already talked a lot about this one. Technically, everything is well done, but man, I don’t care for that romance. The drama is at its best and most sincere when it’s being funny, and despite being oddly underused, the supporting cast are really holding everything together. I don’t get why you would create a world where Kwak Dong-yeon and Lee Joo-bin are a couple and not talk more about that. I want to see more of everyone that isn’t Hyun-woo. But I’m obsessed with how good Kim Ji-won is.

The red sleeve: So brilliant, even when it’s bad lol. I’m a Junho stan til I die, and Lee Se-young is a very dear addition to my ever growing list of favourite actresses. The script is delicious. Eps 8 & 9 are like, really bad though. Awful. What a waste of Court Lady Jo’s character, and a gorgeous Park Ji-young performance. It’s a choice to make a group of women who, verbatim, “want to choose their own king”, look like deviants. But between spoilers & reading about Consort Ui, it looks like the story is still going to come to the same conclusion as those women - that the monarchy are parasitic (even those that are good faith actors), extorting mental & physical labour from an underclass of powerless women. Makes no sense to suddenly go, “but these ladies took it too far!!” Lol, be serious. But taking them seriously might’ve complicated how we see Deok-im’s unwavering certainty in Yi-san’s ability to rule. Each time she throws herself into the line of fire for him, I get a little sad. Love her and Yi-san tho. Now, that’s romance.
