My surprise when I did not see any "Nusantra: The Legend of the Winged Ones" post on Tumblr??
It was such a good indie Otome game. 😩 I love how gentle Mitra was. I just wanted to hug a guy who looks like a giant cuddly teddy bear. Reksa is the best but I want Mitra because he was huge and shy and kind.....you know........... 😩
If you haven't played it yet and you love visual novel otome game....you should give it a try!

I played Nusantara the other day and jshfjsnfhksndb there are no Tumblr posts about this game and I don't know why!
Firstly, being introduced to this title screen and seeing Mitra's abs, I just- *chef's kiss*:
Tumblr media
Although Mitra was an adorable cinnamon roll and I did enjoy his route... I actually enjoyed Reksa's route the most! I just.... I won't spoil anything but omg... I am weak.
Tumblr media
The game (it's free but you can give the creator money, which I recommend you do!):
I really wish there were more visual novel games for nblm and mlm but there's waaaay more out there with female protags. However, at least the game itself is really good. Additionally, it focuses a bit on Indonesian culture, which I had no idea about. Overall, I do recommend!

As Maki's little brother we wake up in a ruined Hope's Peak invested with Monokuma!
What do you mean this is a stealth game now...?
Tumblr media
@sweetchiel Drew the chapter 6.5 thumbnail for us!
The composition! The lighting and shading! The strong horror vibes! Osiria being insanely handsome!
Thank you so much for your great work~

Tumblr media
Hello! I’m Whimsy and I’m developing a new Otome/Visual Novel! It’s still in way way way early development stages, but I decided to make a blog about it to keep myself in check. So far I have written about 21,000 words, and I’m still going. Soon enough, I’ll post art and other things about my progress and things about the actual novel, but right now I’m just getting established. (I’ve never used Tumblr before!)
A little about myself:
I’ve never written a visual novel before, but I love otomes, and I would like to try! I’m doing all the writing, art, and music for this one, so I’m expecting it to take a long time for any kind of... substantial progress to show up. I also have to figure out how Ren’Py works! I was inspired by my favorite writers, Sonnet009, SweetChiel, and Dicesuki to name a few. Oh! I stream sometimes too. Pretty much art for/about the VN! https://picarto.tv/TM45Attract
A little about the story:
Olivia is an artist stuck in a rut, both emotionally and with her craft. She gets sucked inside a magic sketchbook into Endelwyn, in the world of Praelle, all created by herself and has to find a way out and/or adapt to her new living situations. Inside she meets five bachelors (from left to right Lucien, Faust, Cyrus, Noa, and Dunin) and many other side characters to help her get through her new situation.
That’s a very small snippet of the concept of my (currently unnamed) VN. I plan to have the 5 bachelor routes with 2 endings each. GxB. I want to write it in such a way that you can semi-customize Olivia’s growth and personality (similar to Sonnet009′s format, but not so extensive). I am also considering making Olivia’s counterpart “Oliver”, the male version so that there can be BxB, but I’m not too sure yet >.<’.

Week of Otome, Day 7: Free to Play vs Pay to Play
Tumblr media
In my experience, whether a game is free or you have to pay for it isn’t always an indication of quality, as is true with any medium or genre. Some games can be the most beautiful quality product you have ever seen and it’s free for everyone to play, but isn’t very well known or popular, and there are some things you pay a higher price for that everyone’s heard of that turns out to be not so great in the end.
I think this more of a tips and tricks page than an actual comparison between the two because of the reasoning above. Perhaps more of pros and cons of both types, if you will.
So, let’s get on with it.
Pay to Play (PC, Console, Mobile, etc)
Tumblr media
Pay to Plays are games that, well, you pay to play the game. For PC and console games in particular, Pay to Play usually means making a one time purchase and the game is yours to play at your leisure. Paid games tend to have games that are fully voiced, a higher CG count, a fuller music soundtrack, longer routes and a fuller story and plot. It’s like there’s a certain amount of polish that goes into paid games. Not to say free games can’t be polished, but you expect something like that when you’re paying real money for a product, especially when the amount is a lot.
Certain games that are pay to play are also able to be played across multiple platforms. From memory, I know Hakuoki has been redone on multiple platforms, the original Fleeting Blossom being available on PSP, DS, 3Ds, PS2, PS3, and I believe iOS and Android releases? The remake versions (Kyoto Winds and Edo Blossoms) both have PSVita releases and Steam releases, as well as upcoming Switch release coming in Japan later this year, so we English speakers may see it some time in the future? Code: Realize’s original game has a PSVita and now a PS4 release accompanied with it’s first fandisk, with also a Switch release coming in Japan later this year (so maybe also a Switch release for the West at some point? Maybe? Please?)
------------------
Free to Play (PC)
Tumblr media
These tend to be done by smaller companies or indie groups that depend on the support of their fans to get their work out there. Because the work is being done being done by fewer people, some quality is expected to sacrificed when compared to their paid peers. Free to Play tends to have fewer CGs, no voice track or partially voiced,  and tends be only on one system.
However, in spite of those considerably small hurdles, if put in the right hands, even with minimal amount of tools and resources, something beautiful can come from it.
It’s also obligatory to also mention to support your favorite companies if you want them to continue to prosper. If you can’t support them financially, at least get the word out about how awesome these games and the people behind them are.
So, as for me, I’ll give a shoutout to:
Michaela Laws (Creator of Seduce Me the Otome) with her website and itch.io page
dicesuki's tumblr (Team behind Cinderella Phenomenon)
And SweetChiel’s (Creator of Nusantara: Legend of the Winged Ones) itch.io page
--------------
Free to Play (Mobile)
Tumblr media
I felt I needed to add this category separate from the Free to Play PC games as I feel there are some elements that are different between the two that need mentioning.
Free to Play PC otomes tend to have a complete narrative when you play the game. Just the story and that’s it.
Mobile Otomes, however, have a little something more to put on the table: a playable element.
From most games I’ve played, the Free to Play Otome does not give the player a complete story from start to finish for the player to read at their leisure. Rather, it’s broken up by the need to use tickets. 5 Tickets are generally given daily (either all five at once at a certain time of day, or one is generated every four hours, depending on the game. They do not roll over if you do not use your tickets all at once, however. Maximum given is always five tickets), but more can purchased with real money if so desired. To play completely free, however, a healthy portion of patience is going to be required.
While waiting for your tickets to regenerate, Mobile Otomes usually have mini games installed to help you earn in-game currency and stats to help with upcoming Challenges and such. This is where the playable element comes in.
Play the mini games to help raise your stats and in-game currency. Logging into the game daily usually gives you items for free to help you (like free in-game money or items to raise your stats). If the game has a friends’ list element, max that out as soon as you can, as you can greet your friends once a day for money (some games offer both a greeting and sending a message for 30 in game currency per friend you have (max friend limit is usually 50, meaning you could be banking about 1500 a day), and, don’t worry you anxious types, the game offers automatically generated messages if you don’t want to create one on your own, things like ‘You’re avatar is awesome!’ ‘Have a nice day!’, basic things like that). Gachas are also offered free once a day, so things you win can be sold for in-game money.
What also makes mobile otomes unique is the Story Events, mini stories offered outside of the main story that help enrich the characters. It can be anything from different holiday and birthday events for the characters, exploring a common trope that isn’t explored in the canon proper, like waiting out a rainstorm or travelling abroad for your honeymoon. It’s like, even if you’ve completed the game proper, there’s always something new to keep you coming back for more.
Tumblr media
In conclusion,  all of them have their features that make them unique and each of them have their flaws. There are a variety of different otomes out there no matter your price range or console of choice. There is literally almost anything for anyone, and I love that about otome games, in video games in generally, really. I can only hope that this continues to be the case for a long time to come.

As an apology for being so inactive lately, I thought I’d give you guys some monster dating game recommendations! These are all ones I’ve played myself, so I won’t recommend anything I haven’t actually checked out, lol. But they’re all super good! Pretty much visual novels rather than, like, character x player stuff, but it’s pretty easy to imagine yourself in the protagonist’s place. :D
It goes without saying that ALL the plots are super amazing, so I’m just gonna give a rundown on the protagonist and dating options and stuff rather than actually reviewing any of them. Because. I seriously love them all. XD
Monstrata Fracture (demo) by Astralore -- customizable protagonist (I think; it’s been a hot minute since I’ve played it); two male dating options (a kelpie and a harpy) and one nonbinary dating option (Deka, a skeleton); a little eerie/mystery feel, in my opinion! <3
MxH Beat (demo) by Krispy Cat -- female protagonist; two male dating options (a skeleton and a werewolf/wolfboy) and two female dating options (a slime/tentacle monster and a cyclops); slice of life and drama feel! <3
What’s Your Name? (full game) by Sunlit-Dreamer -- female protagonists; four male dating options (a lampir/vampire, a mermaid/merman, and twin pukis in the same route); if you liked horror mixed in with your romance and like dying a few times before getting to a good ending, this one’s for you! <3
Meeting in the Flesh (demo) by inkEthic -- gender neutral protagonist who’s also a monster; three male dating options (an insect creature, an anthropomorphic wolf, and a many-mouthed monster); some horror and alternate reality with very cool worldbuilding stuff! <3
Nusantara: Legend of the Winged Ones (full game) by SweetChiel -- female protagonist; three male dating options (two winged harpy-like beings, and one lizard-like being); super strong fantasy vibes and awesome worldbuilding! <3 (WARNING for this one that I’ve only played one route, so I don’t know exactly what goes on with the other two, but I do know that some themes of self harm and/or suicide are present throughout the story in general regarding at least one character, so tread carefully if you’re sensitive to or triggered by that)
Seduce Me the Otome (full game), Seduce Me the Otome: Episode Series,  and Seduce Me 2: The Demon War (full game) by Michaela Laws -- female protagonist; five male dating options (all five are incubi and they’re brothers -- they appear human most of the time, but they all have different powers, and you do eventually see their demon forms, both in the first game and in the second) and one female dating option in the second game (a succubus, she appears in a mostly human form in the first game but you don’t have much chance to do anything with her); comedy, drama, and fantasy vibes. (The first game and the episode series are free, but the sequel is paid, $10. The writing and plot for both the full games, at least, isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but you have plenty of eye candy to look at if the writing isn’t your thing.)
BONUS: the demo of my own monster boy game, More Than Monsters, can be found here! It’s a text game rather than a visual novel, but has a little art in the way of intros to the boys and eventually CGs in the full routes. Don’t feel obligated to check this one out, though, it’s different from the others because a visual novel would be too overwhelming for me! c:
There’s my recommendations for the day, these are the monster dating visual novels I’ve come across so far! If y’all wanna add some in reblogs or suggest monster dating games for me to play and add here, feel free to do so! <3
