a comprehensive list of everything wrong with hazbin hotel.

quick note before i lose myself in madness, my standards for helluvaboss are non existent because its a free show on youtube. also i kinda like helluvaboss and i will indulge in any bias i damn well please.

oh and spoilers. i guess.

the greater narrative of the entire season is "White lady civilize inner city hoodlum". ex: The blind side. rich girl, affluent family yadda yadda.

the story is set up to be like amphibia, owl house, svtfoe, steven universe, that being starting as something episodic then transforming into story driven narrative. why? because we know the benefits and drawbacks, episodic starts allows us to wander the world, it allows us to understand the dynamics, we are not forced to reckon with anything because there is no deadline. characters are allowed to bloom and shine and the audience can actually get attached.

the source material is Vary Clearly formed from remnants of something out of a middle school edgelord narrative. the usage of transformation, the big spooky grins, the "and then i smile as my eyes glow and-"-isms which in most cases i don't mind because in some instances but in a vary Particular case its astoundingly annoying and that annoyance is like a mold, shit spreads quick.

the color Red. as a lover of homestuck cherubs and karkat and aradia, as someone who fucking loves the color red, it is so painful to say but holy shit tone it the fuck down, i know its hell but their are so many other colors that you can use, its everywhere, the streets, the air, the windows, the screens, the characters, i know the pride ring is represented with red but change up the palates every so often for backgrounds

the rush, this ties into the second point made but i think the story itself is rushed. we know everything way to early. i know way to much and it makes it hard to care about anything because im still trying to digest the last chunk of info. "oh ok, so they clear out hell once a year. oh hell has a heaven embassy? ok. oh that adam the angel, i though he wou- oh its every 6 months now. wait the exterminators die a lot? then why is everyone sca- people in hell already have weapons that can kill angels? w- oh we are in heaven now, ok ma- no one in heaven except for the elites know the exterminations occur? how do-" and its that, just this incessant rush to explain everything to you. notably that's just the god damn spark notes, we need to know everything about the characters now, every single bit of their story, their insecurities, what charlie needs to fix, how she can fix them, the major bad guys, everything. you are never allowed to dwell on a character because we need to rush towards something else. it almost feels like this should have been like... season three, it would have been a fantastic season three if you dropped the introductions honestly.

the concept of redemption. for a story of redemption to work you need to look at three things. What is there crime, Do they want to change, What is preventing them from changeing? there is only one single character that has a notable path of redemption, angel dust, but if you look through their story it feels off. What Exactly is he guilty of? he has sex, does drugs and drinks. his apparent nymphomania is tied to his sad backstory as someone forced into the sex industry so how is that their fault? then if you think about it you start to spiral and notice "hey why are most of these people in hell?" like sure some of them may deserve punishment but then you see the fucking dichotomy and its like "I was a inventor in england and died of the fucking plague, i may have made evil little contraption hoohoohoo" vs "I was a cannibal, a full on cannibal, i fucking killed people and ate them and then someone shot me". ONE OF THESE THINGS ARE A LITTLE MORE FUCKING EXTREME. i'm going to go fucking nuts, the thing they went to heaven with when presenting a case to angels on the idea that redemption and becoming a better person is actually real was angel dust not drinking at a party and not having sex with consenting adults and i want to go fucking insane. WHAT IS THE CRIME, WHO IS THROWING THE BOOK, WHAT DOES THE BOOK INTEL, ARE WE ON GOOD PLACE RULES?! half the cast dont Need redemption they need fucking help, and the other half of the cast do need redemption but they do not seek it making the point moot. sir pentious acts like he has the brain of a hyper intelligent toddler tossing about toys, its almost like he did his one bad thing of spying and then got caught, sank his little diddy about forgiveness and second chances and become a null point through out the rest of the series, sure their was Some weight to him sacrificing himself, he was a decently funny character and he had good moments but him popping up in heaven felt like a fore gone conclusion, he didn't deserve to be in hell so why do i care that he is suddenly in heaven? because its working on the concept the good place already made. no one actually deserves eternal punishment they just need help processing what makes them a dick, but instead of looking at all the parts of the afterlife that make it bad, inefficient and then creating and trying ideas to see if it work instead over a few seasons, we crash dick first into all the major plot points in regards to that and say "tada, we fixed it.".

having a sub-plot about sexual assault and its victims then having multiple sexual assault related gag ruins your point.

don't make a bunch of stereotypically jewish characters into cannibals, that was a big thing, really shouldn't have to say it.

if you are going to make a character black, make them black, you can say alastor was black but sweet seren-fucking-dippity that's not a black man.

pot meet kettle but yeah the cursing could be a little less liberal. maybe just blue hair or the pronouns, not both.

there is a very distinctive art deco/jazz aesthetic which normally i love but i feel as though it is not used to its full extent and in some cases really hurts the character design in and of itself.

this is a vary obvious bit but the story is a million times more interested in gay men then it is of lesbians, which culminates in this insane thing where the writers clearly have more talent or perhaps it would be more abt to say practice writing male gay pining then they are with lesbian pining. which i personally think is hilarious because i did not know you could min max fujoshi-ism that hard.

this next section is more to do with each character on a fundamental level, for the sake of brevity whatever there is left, i'm just doing ones with speaking roles.

13. Charlie:

(see what i mean about that red thing?)

as originally stated charlie fits rather comfortably into every white saviour narrative, though that seems to be part of her joke. though i'm not entirely sure how much of a joke it can be when its rewarded and expected to advance the plot.

her character design says nothing, it has the motif of old puppets or dolls, she wears something vaguely similar to service suits, her demonic form is just some extra horns.not to say every character needs to have their life on a clothes rack but some more snake and goat imagery would be nice

its not the chol design of charlie with snake hair, not an actual problem but its a problem to me, damn you @cholvoq for ruining my ability to look at any of the characters without wishing i was seeing your designs instead.

character wise aside from the white savoir bit, i'm having a bit of trouble understanding what the arc of the character is. she is shown to be naive, someone who doesn't understand how the world works but everytime she says something its something astoundingly clear like "people can actually get better". and its treated like someone demanded faygo in every water fountain. is the joke that the world around her to cynical or is so to naive? please pick one or the other.

now if you know me, you know i fucking hate overpowered characters with a blinding passion, one that would set alit the god damn abyss but in this one special instance, i feel like its warranted, she's the direct descendant of fucking God, she can swing her weight around a little, i mean god damn. she in so many instances looks like shes cowering so often, why would the daughter of lucifer get backed down by some rando pimp? why wasn't she the one to fight adam? sure you can say she is young but how young? her parents were there since pre-abrahamic times, most of the characters showed up in hell in the 1900s, some of them showed up in the 1600s, how old is charlie??? how long does it take for her to learn how to be strong? The story does not suffer if charlie is strong and knows she is strong. it can easily be a case of "i don't believe in violence to a weird degree". fit it into her apparent naivety about the world to believe that violence is never the answer even when dealing with a being that is unilaterally horrible and abusive and monstrous.

she ga- no im kidding, i do think her romance was waysided a bit, it would have been fine to have more scenes of them togather and in love you know?

14. Vaggie

why did you name the lesbian vaggie...? Don't do that maybe?

I like how her design is almost moth like but again i feel as though you could have amped that up.

she feels as though someone tried to combine undyne and pearl from steven universe, same story beats and design elements. it makes it hard to really distinguish her as a character.

i honestly dont have much to say about her. she is fine.

15. Alastor.

God Damn

where to start.

"alastor is mixed race" mixed with fucking what? concrete? there is not a single black feature on that creature, now im not saying you have to make him a png of louie armstrong but it wouldn't hurt to add a curl to the hair maybe? make it a tiny bit more wavy? Something? a crumb i beg of thee?

his symbolism is all over the god damn place, native american monsters (you know the one), voodoo, radio, puppets, stitches, circuses??? and Tentacles i guess. two of those are from closed religions so if you dumped those you would actually get a more concise character focused on the concept of vox populi as a means of societal control and influence as we see in his first song. but again that gets drowned out repeatedly by all the other random toy box bits shoved into him.

tumblr sexy man bait

he serves no purpose in the story. he does spooky stuff, pretends to do things and then goes back to sitting around looking spooky. i understand that his motif is supposed to be aloof mastermind but maybe have him do more mastermindy things? if you remove most of alastors scenes, bar the songs, it doesn't change all to much. husk and nifity can still be at the hotel, they could be looking for outs in their contracts the same as angel dust. hell it even helps with the one scene where he dose some spooky shit, asking charlie for a favor in exchange for his help in the fight with the angels instead of asking him about angel weapons which should have remained a strictly vaggie scene.

his presence in a way delegitimize the story, as I noted in in the section regarding redemption, the three parts are "what is the crime, do they want to change, what is stopping them?" and alastor kinda just spits in the face of that. he is a serial killer cannibal that has no qualms about how evil he is and apparently must continue being evil due to being under the control under someone legitimately called the Root Of All Evil. show him take a slight interest in the idea that maybe shit for him could be better, make him Want Change at the bare fucking minimum or dont have him at the hotel.

his stupid little fucking horns, big shot the troll liker wants characters to have big fucking horns, make them noticeable or dont have them.

he looks more like a dog boy, which could have been an interesting thing with the collar motif but fuck me i guess.

personal pet peeve but i fucking hate characters that have a million plus powers, stick to a set number, be creative.

im getting more petty as i go on so last point: he could have been in less episodes, he didn't need to be in dad beat dad, that should have been just a lucifer and charlie episode. inverse the red and black and i think he would be fucking great color wise, his body type is the same as ten different characters, he isnt radio enough, aside from the voice and and staff if you told me he was the fucking Cat Demon i would have been just as convinced.

16. Angel Dust

what the fuck, gay spider? its hard to actully articulate all the thoughts i have on angel dust, not in the sense that he is a deeply thought provoking character but in the fact that there is not much meat on the bones.

all around i think angel dust is kinda middling. he has a decent enough romance with husk, he has a decent enough story line that revolves around battling addiction and removing yourself from an abuser (which the story tries to brand as "Redemption???")

I dont like that most of his jokes would qualify as sexual harassment, i don't mind him being sexual as a character but continuing on when clearly someone doesn't like the jokes hurts the character.

not a critique but he is pink, which honestly ill fucking take at point, as long as its not more fucking red.

i think his design is an improvement over some of the old vivzie designs but it feels like it could have done with going a few more rounds of design changes.

same thing with alastor, charlie and vaggie, there is not enough of the animal that they are supposed to be. You could have told me angel dust was a fucking bee or something and i would have had to believe you. nothing about angel dust initially says spider, hell he dosent even have enough limps to be a fucking spider.

17. Carmilla carmine

are... are you supposed to be a rabbit...?

ballet fighting style, could have been cool, wish she fought more like sanji or chun li.

A single mom that works to hard, who loves her kids and never stops-

her song was decent, not great, decent. it feels as though the actress has experience singing but not in the way they tried to make her sing during her two songs. they have a obvious mexican influence, honestly just let her sing in spanish in the english dub. go listen to the spanish dub, "out for love" sounds great in spanish.

i wish i had more thoughts on them, fucking rip.

18. cherri bomb

that's not a punk aesthetic that's 2010s alt

decent character, they showed up once or twice i guess, no real thoughts.

19. egg boiz

absolutely perfect, i have not notes on them, these are perfect creatures.

20. Emily

im so fucking happy to see a singular blue character

does the naive dreamer bit better then charlie

We really shouldnt have seen her until the end of season two or middle of three.

good contrast with the other angels on screen.

21. Husk

keith david you absolute delight, Why on gods green earth did they only give you one singing part?

one of the few charecters where its clear husk is a cat, i do like the kinda... marquee design, he is a magic cat, thats neat. i still think you can toss the wings and eyebrows and still have just as good of a charecter.

has a deeply intresting story of someone who died as a nobody, became the fat cat of hell and then was forced back to the bottom by their own vices, not used at fucking all.

huge potential, little pay off.

22. lillith

I know nothing about her except she ditched her kid and husband to vacation in heaven and i think thats kinda funny.

alot of werid things floating around her, again she shouldnt have been shown in the show at all until next season.

23. lucifer morningstar

no notes, funniest charecter, did a song based on friend like me.

few notes: i do like the idea that the immortal symbol of pride is a constant emotional wreckage constantly seeking approval through grand showmanship and manic energy that threatens to take over anything they touch.

would have liked more snake stuff on him, maybe some more goat things like horns.

that is such a stupid fucking staff lmao.

24. Adam.

alex brightman you absolute fucking delight, you should have had more songs.

I wish his design was more focused on the idea of him being a glam rock wash up

25. Niffty

again she is supposed to be a bug or cockroach but nothing about her points to that.

the secret season one redeemed.

the pilot version of him felt more like someone that could do a season one redemption arc, a megalomaniac constantly attempting territory grabs, there is something you can work with, actual character flaws to work through.

essentially a child after the first episode.

actually a snake which i appreciate.

no where near steampunky enough.

27. the villians of the show dont make much sense, each one feels like they should be season long deals on their own instead of a bunch of team rocket esque idiots that show up on occasion, do a bad thing and then leave.

28. Valentino

gOD THERE IS SO MUCH RED

only a moth some of the time.

sucks as a villain, maybe they need more screen time to show why they suck in a more substantial way aside from being told that he sucks.

it is interesting that angel dust is only under his magical control when in the studio, it shows that angel dust has to make a conscious choice to return, which in turn can be made to show how abusers can draw back their victims. I do not think it was done well in this circumstance as it shows him to be cartoonishly evil, constantly flying back and fourth between sweet and utter psycho, there is no actual reason for angel dust to ever actually go back to the studio, he just does so every so often.

29. Vox

legit who cares? the only thing about him that is in any way substantial is all the dope ass fan art we get.

propaganda machine angle that is not explored at all, just hinted at. no actual barring on the story whatsoever.

why didn't he try to do the same shit as alastor by the way? he knows its bad if alastor gets in good with charlie so shouldn't it be a ass kissing race?

same body shape as literally every other male character.

30. Valvette

the actual poster child of the shows huge problem of "Show me, don't tell me".

apparently the glue that holds the villains together. never shown.

apparently the one that makes the love potions that valentino is famous for. had to learn about that in the fuckin wiki trivias

we know so much about her from things outside of the show.

was there to call carmilla a coward, that's her plot contribution. she shows up every now and again but its never anything substantial and serves to more around take up run time for people We Don't Need To Know Yet.

im not trying to be mean, animation is animation, we need smaller studios to have success in the industry so that other indie studios can have that success, felling a tree makes it easier for others to follow. showing that its possible to number brain rot exacs helps all animators.

but this show has so much bullshit attached to it, it has so much fucking potential that it fries my brain with unyielding frustration.

since u mentioned star vs the forces of evil recently, can i ask ur thoughts on the show? favorite aspects, least favorite aspects, etc? i enjoyed the show a lot and agree that it was doing a lot of really cool and interesting stuff but the ending was kind of a let-down, though i struggle to articulate how i would have preferred it to have gone. curious to hear what u think.

i wish i could answer this one in depth for you because I feel like this show absolutely deserves careful consideration about its pros and cons, but it's been wayyyy too long since I've watched it to remember even most of the larger plot beats, let alone the smaller stuff that can really make or break a show like this. i really would like to revisit this one some time in the near future and develop a more refined opinion of it.

in a lot of ways svtfoe's biggest strength doubles as its biggest weakness; it's willingness to completely pivot what kind of show it's trying to be let it wear a lot of hats and run the full gamut of childrens cartoon plotlines without ever feeling stale. On the other hand, it had a real identity crisis and i don't know if it ever truly knew what side its bread was buttered on.

I don't think it executed anything it was trying to do particularly cleanly, but I do think it was willing to try a lot of fun stuff. i think it took guts to have your show start out 'hey guys im a wacky magical princess from another dimension!' and by the end have that same character come to the conclusion that she needs to surrender her birthright and abolish the monarchy.

in addition i think a lot of western cartoons LOVE the idea of a 'weird girl' character but it's easier said than done. my peak example for this is Luz from the owl house, who the narrative desperately tries to frame as strange and quirky but really does not ever act in a way that sells that. on the other hand i do think star is kind of a genuine freak teen which is fun. the show DEFINITELY is bogged down in the dregs of randomcore that post-aughts animated media can't seem to shake, but i think once the show started to take its own setting more seriously this evened out and it was able to evolve beyond its surface-level quirkiness.

IM DONE. IM FUCKING DONE.

A year ago. OVER THREE HUNDRED AND SIXTY FIVE DAYS AGO. Back before I moved into a new house not once but TWICE, I discovered this beautiful gem of a show, Star Vs the Forces of Evil. You needn’t know the plot if you don’t, but the animation and character design is beautiful. It inspired me to draw like crazy, I made posters, created a new personal goal to become a convention booth artist (which over this past year I’ve made significant progress towards) and overall at its core I have this show to thank for giving me the artistic boost I needed to persue something I can somewhat call a dream job.

HOWEVER.

I wish I never joined this god forsaken fandom and here’s why.

Back before our humble planet earth completed yet another FULL CYCLE around OUR MASSIVE STAR OF LIFE THAT WE CALL A SUN, I decided, as the self centered 17 year old high school dropout at the time I was, I would google if there were any episodes that aired on my birthday. Innocent, right? Well APPARENTLY NOT. Because this would be the catalyst for the most meaningless internet beef that has turned into an appalled and disbelieving rage. I’m not offended at this person’s opinion, I’m offended at their four seasons long radio silence cut abruptly by their decision to enter my vicinity on this vast virtual plane for reasons unbeknownst to my comprehension.

I’m getting ahead of myself.

The deuteragonist’s name is Marco. He’s a teenage boy with a running bit about his unique feminine side. He wears makeup and prefers some typical ‘girl’ things, despite being a boy. You may see where a fandom would run with this. In one of the episodes, he is dressed as a princess named Turdina. Turdina is originally a disguise used to infiltrate an all girls boarding school with his protagonist friend, however in that original episode, he accidentally sparks a revolution of princesses and becomes a face in a feminist empowering movement about individuality and freedom. This is a plot point brought up later again in an episode that happened to, by fate’s both generous and cruel hand, air on my birthday.

Now the dress he wears is beautiful, and the hair is one of those cartoony ponytails that I’ve always secretly enjoyed in character design. I was tempted, even before that google search, to convey my appreciation for the Turdina outfit in the form of a stylus’s dance on canvas.

This beef, that has been simmering, rotting, in the hot southern summer sun of tumblr age all began with an innocent post that I, at the time, did not know would be the equivalent of setting eighty Victorian orphanages on fire and consuming the ashes with gluttonous villainy. My post read as follows.

“Hey SVTFOE fandom! Just found out my birthday is the same day ‘Princess Turdina’ aired. Does this mean I should draw her?”

One soul behind a screen didn’t much care for this. They commented, accusing me of things that I hadn’t even brought into the conversation including headcanons and beliefs that I, though supported, did not perpetuate in this post. I replied and moved on.

My art consisted of two drawings, careful in wording as to not harm this tumblr user of whom I had yet to process the full hatred of… canon depictions(?) in their heart.

They replied again. We argued. I eventually began to purposefully antagonize them. After all, I believe one fan is entitled to their own opinion, especially when it is one that someone could use as a way to cope or project complex thought onto. After all, in the land of fandom, anything goes. Except for Turdina, apparently. Turdina is worse than seven war crimes on a kind elderly civilian of pure actions and gentle heart.

I decided, if my art wouldn’t be welcome on tumblr, I could retreat to the trenches of Reddit and its cold (though terrifying at times) arms. I posted my art on the subreddit.

They found me.

This beef had turned into a quarter pounder with cheese. Two patties, one grass fed in the tumblr plains and one raised in cruelty of Reddit’s confines. The argument carried no progression, for I was ying and my enemy was yang, and like a penny whose head may never see its tail, We would never see each other’s reasoning. I was aware of this, my partner in this unspeakable freak of nature interaction, did not. I don’t know what happened next. The events that unfurled that lead to the silence blur into nothing but a distant memory from a prior era.

I moved on. I evolved. I learned to drive, I went back to school, I fell into deep studies of the workings of our chaotic yet poetic weather. I fell in love. I felt heartbreak. I got cats. And, as they tend to do, my Star phase came to a beautiful silent close. I laid that era to rest, and I was at peace.

Until tonight, in the early screeches of the morning, still in my work shirt covered in hours of labor and turmoil, I check tumblr. I see a comment. ‘Odd,’ I thought. ‘Why would someone reply to a post from oh so long ago?” until I read the contents. My heart flutters with recognition. My eyes, naturally, don’t believe it. A new profile picture, better grammar, the beef, thought to have been torn with unfriendly teeth of rivals revived itself, as having thawed. As if it had been frozen. FOR A FUCKING YEAR. I emphasize this, we fought over a YEAR ago. ASK ME WHAT THAT EPISODE WAS ABOUT. I DONT FUCKING KNOW IT WAS A YEAR AGO, I FORGOT.

STILL, THIS PERSON DECIDED TO REKINDLE OUR BEEF AND TO YOU, BECAUSE I KNOW FOR A FACT YOU HAVE MY REDDIT USER, I ASK YOU THIS:

WHY? Why must you linger in the dead of the flame after all that remains are shrouds of lonely black smoke? Are you satisfied feasting on your entertainment that is your words as if you are both a jester and its cruel king? Do you not long for the unity that is LITERALLY ANYTHING ELSE? In our year separated, did you not grow? Did you not stop fucking caring about a KIDS SHOW FROM 2015 EVEN FOR A MINUTE!?

As I typed this, we talked again, They didn’t answer my questions that I beg for. They deleted the comment, as if taking the patty away from me after reminding me of its taste. They disappear again, like a phantom in the wind. This is psychological warfare. I have never experienced such whiplash. Are they coming back? I have no way of knowing. And that’s whats terrifying.

Starco had so much platonic potential

Opinions on Star and Marco are all over the place when it comes to the svtfoe fandom, however, ever since that one chibi episode came out there has been a lot more hate. Now I was a small child when this show came out so I was never apart of the fandom then but from what I have heard I believe they were quite popular during its airing. I have personally always disliked Star and Marco, not so much their dynamic but more so how it was handled (this is also coming from the biggest tomstar fan). There is also some very large misconception that the show runners were pressured into making them canon at the end but this is not true, and frankly it has been very clear they were going to be endgame from the blood moon curse. For some reason whenever their ship isn’t canon people love making up rumors that it was originally going to be someone else, looking at you ohshs fandom…

To me the part that really irks me about them is their whole dynamic and relationship is basically just built off of the whole, every guy and girl, especially in older cartoons has to be together. The fact that this COULD have been the one show that was different is what disappoints everyone. Hoping and hoping but the inevitable ending of their relationship is constantly looming behind me whenever I first watched and rewatch the show.

I really want to talk about the “what could have been” with them especially when it comes to the blood moon curse

I mean just imagine this; these two characters are constantly being shipped by others and joked about and even have a stupid curse that forces them to be together in the end (a representation the inevitable fate of all male/female duos in these shows AAAAAAAH), then through the sheer power of platonic friendship are able to continue their relationship with no romance waiting for them, even with a curse constantly trying to push them together they are able to find other people and become one of the most powerful platonic loves ever. Though… that is nothing more than a dream.

As I mentioned before my biggest issue with their relationship is how it was developed. The first two seasons it’s a lot of little crush drama but not much more but then they just go off again and date other people…? Then they develop their relationship… while Star is in a relationship with Tom.

Now don’t even get me started on Tom, I love Tom. The fact that he was willing to improve himself so much just for her is so amazing. I know the biggest argument about their relationship is on Stars side with her lack of communication and just hesitance on their relationship. These are definitely true things but I would like to say one thing… their relationship was so good, so healthy… when Marco wasn’t there. It’s not even that Marco was some alluring being for Star driving her away from Tom but he was just… in the way and making things messy for no reason. They even state this point blank in the show when he comes back. Stars mistakes I think derive from two things, Marco being Marco (I love him), and the fact that she’s saving the damn world as a teenager. I bring this argument up all the time when talking about relationships in shows like these because first of all they’re literal children, they’re not going to have a lot of romantic maturity and not only that, they’re children with the entire weight of the world on their shoulders. So yes sometimes they might be a little stressed and it will probably take a toll on their relationships. I love all of the episodes where it’s just Tom and Star having a good time together because they are just too sweet. On top of that what’s the show… a damn discrimination analogy using monsters… and what’s Tom? A MONSTER. It would have been so good for her to end up with a monster in the end! Oh my gosh. There is also the whole thing with Tom being treated differently than other monsters and the themes behind that but I just think they could’ve expanded more on that if they actually had them together.

Well back to what I was saying, they spend so much time developing these other relationships it just felt so unsatisfying when they actually ended together. It was just disappointing because you made us fall in love with these other relationships just to do a 180 back to your original plan? A huge thing with me is if Tom was just there to expand and develop Star so she could be better with Marco then why did you end it the way you did? Why was Tom the more mature one at the end of their relationship? It made no sense. And then there was the whole deal with putting Marco with random women then forgetting about them like an episode later. Now for my biggest argument against Starco, something that we don’t talk about enough, Marco… is an adult… Marco… is an adult… like he just is, and I’m just reminded of that every so often. Their romantic relationship felt dull and they don’t actually have much chemistry besides their friendship. They could have just been a basic couple that people don’t talk about much but the only reason people talk about them all the time is because they’re so disliked because of all these other relationships! To me the whole thing is just weird… it’s like they were confused but they were holding a simple map of their relationship from the very start.

Anyways, I talked way too much about Tom for a post which was meant to be like a paragraph long but I digress. I think Tom and Star should’ve ended together, I don’t like the cheating thing but that brings me to another point, A COUPLE THAT HAD ONE CHEATING WITH THE OTHER NEVER WORKS OUT… not that that’s necessarily the start but it’s a huge turning point in their relationship and so… weird! At some point while I kinda like Stephcass, I really don't wanna ship it just bc that's one of the few examples of two lead female friends in media so I really want them to be just girl friends

There are a lot of depictions of two wlw leads who are together, or female friends groups, or like big friend groups with two girl characters. Or when there's a girl main character and a side female character who's her friend. But when there are just two girl besties who both are main characters? I've barely ever seen it. So Cass and Steph's friendship is really important to me.

Okay, I know there are probably many animes with two lead girl friends, but in animes all types of friendship usually look very ambiguous and romantically-codes that at this point you usually can't say if they're friends or are secretly in love and just can't admit it, like with Nana, or High Rise Invasion (haven't watched it yet, so just from what I've heard about it). Probably the only other example I remember is the movie called The Hustle, a pretty good one btw, I like it

Anyway, I wish we had more media centered around two female friends, bc for some reason it's always only two boy friends (cuz f/m Friendships are very rare and usually even those rare examples turn into romance later like SVTFOE)

I don’t think Luz is in the wrong for killing Belos, he was a genocidal maniac and child abuser and genuinely irredeemable- nobody who hates the ending of The Owl House complains about Belos being irredeemable, they complain about the show flopping the cult critical message, how hunter’s possession felt like needless shock value, the show not properly setting up the collector or how the coven system/conformitorium’s writing is a mess or how Eda becoming a teacher makes as much sense as Toph becoming a cop and you can go ‘but the show said-’ what the show said had unfortunate implications, was uncomfortable to abuse survivors, and I can’t forgive the ass-pullery of the trailer-bait nightmare sequence or how in the hexside crew became irrelevant! When people complain about how Belos was handled nobody complains about him not getting a redemption arc- they complain that hunter should’ve been there to see belos die or how they hate Luz’s power up. RWBY -James Ironwood’s and Penny’s character arcs and deaths felt so ableist it’s actually uncomfortable to watch, I have ASD my sister, and like half of the people I know have PTSD, I don’t know any amputees but I’ve seen plenty making noise about how shit the writing was. Good, they should be mad! The show’s message about prosthetics/amputations was toxic! Not mention for all the hopeful messages Team RWBY screams at the top of their lungs about trust they knowingly broke Ironwood’s trust for very poorly defined reasons! while I do think ruthless pragmatism is a bad thing, team RWBY offered no alternatives, he wasn’t a villain- he was facing an ethical dilemma and got fucked over. And SVTFOE- I shouldn’t have to buy tie-in materials to understand the show- tie-in material should be a bonus not a supplement or requirement, I Don’t have to buy the ATLA comics inorder to understand the show, I don’t have to read all of Lord Of The Rings to understand the movies. It doesn’t matter how the show was supposed to be interpreted or how the audience is supposed to feel, and It’s perfectly valid for the audience not to care about damage control spinoffs (cough cough Steven Universe) or Q&A’s or whatever. I’ll admit sometimes the audience is fucking stupid and completely media illiterate but can we stop acting like anyone who doesn’t blindly consume product and go with what the writers said are stupid? In terms of like, shipping canon characters together, the only ones I really do is Luz and Amity, as well as Hunter and Willow, from The Owl House. Like I still do actively like romantic pairings in fiction, like Optimus Prime and Elita-1, or Jimmy and Kim from Better Call Saul, but I don't actively ship them in like...a BIG way like I used to. Again, outside of those TOH ships.

I think the thing that did me in was the fall of Starco in my eyes. Like, Starco was THE ship for me, you have to realize. It introduced me to shipping. The wide world of shipping. Through thick and thin, at my core was the idea of Star Butterfly and Marco Diaz kissing in my head. Even as other ships came and went, Starco was my go-to.

I think SvtFoE's fall was like...caused by both ends. Like, 100% Disney was awful in treating the show especially with it's last few episodes of season four. That was abysmal, it was like they were burning off what was, tmk, a pretty popular show at the time. The rapid week to week pace probably did not help how those final episodes were received. On the other hand...the world of the show was like, actively falling apart, in more ways than one. Magic was being corrupted for an ill defined reason, the shades of gray between Mewmans and Monsters was quickly shifting to a black-white inversion, characters were being ASSASSINATED in real time to serve the plot (Rhombulus, Moon, I am so so sorry for you two). The Magic Book of Spells —OH GOD THE IRL MAGIC BOOK OF SPELLS—so much of what was hinted there got like, next to nothing in the show itself. Why!?! Reynaldo was so nothing, and Seth of the Septarsis? WE NEVER EVEN SAW HIM!!

Someone I was falling around the time of the season four wrapping up kept posting criticisms that I kept shooting down personally—looking back, she was right. I just didn't know it. The show so quickly got wrapped up in making Starco endgame happen, it shoved plot and lore to the side. The revelation that Mewmans ARE humans who have simply been exposed to magic should have been a series wide revelation almost comparable to the reveal of Stanford or Garnet's nature as a fusion. Instead...it's offhandedly mentioned at the start of an episode as a joke. Seriously. And need we even TALK about the implications of the ending????

Yeh like...the show was such a train wreck. Worst part is, it was kinda amazing at first, and Starco was kinda building up to be a fun decon-recon of the main leads romance trope. It just got too obsessed with its own teen drama and that ultimately lead to a fumbled ending. Granted, dunno how much of it was Nefcy and her team's fault, and what was Disney rushing, but I hold both in equal blame.

Kinda devolved into a Star Vs rant, eh? Guess all I'm saying is I have a difficult relationship with the show, where Starco was a big part of my life and then all of a sudden wasn't for reasons really out of my control. Maybe that's why I turned to selfshipping lol.

Happy Halloween 2023!

This is something long overdue. Even though I stopped posting my commissions on here that doesn't mean I've stopped getting them!

I've especially enjoyed getting Halloween commissions because those are really fun to conceive, order, and see made into reality. I've especially enjoyed getting them from Aeolus06 and he's never disappointed. Sadly due to me being between jobs I couldn't get any this year. :( That said I've decided to use this as an opportunity to show what I've got over the last few years and hopefully you'll love them as much as I do! :)

These first four are unique in that these were all from the same year (2020 to be exact). Since Aeo has a cool down period between commissions, I actually got these all done over a period of a few months. XD Took a lot of luck and prayer, but I got all the ideas I wanted done!

First one was probably the most complex, but was worth it because of how well it fit. Star, Marco, and Hekapoo from Star vs The Forces of Evil as AndrAIa, Matrix, and Older!AndrAIa from Reboot! Much like Matrix, Marco had a bit of age jumping that fit naturally (especially body types and eye scars). Plus Star and Hekapoo are shipped pretty hard with him so it was natural they dress as the different versions of Matrix's lady love.

Also, Fun Fact: Marco's scar/prosthetic eye is on the wrong side compared to his costume, but I felt it was better to ignore it than have Aeo flip the entire costume. XD

Next up we had some classic hotties from Canada, Lindsay and Courtney. Everyone with a pulse will know I'm a Courtney fan, so I'm always eager to give her some love. And while I'm not AS big on Lindsay, she's a fun character and I have some friends who love her too so I didn't mind them sharing the spotlight.

Obviously the theme/inspiration behind this pics conception is the fact Lindsay and Courtney pack the biggest T and A on the island respectively, so they needed some costumes to illustrate that. Thus we got Courtney as everyone's fave lady wrestler Rainbow Mika from Street Fighter and Lindsay as the boxing cheerleader Tiffany Lords from Rival Schools. Both ladies who kick ass and look good doing it! Give these ladies some love folks!

Another Fun Fact: This one took faster to do than I expected, mostly cause I didn't realize my refs were thigh high. In the end I feel it still looked good and didn't bother bringing it up. XD

Here's another cute couple and one I think deserves more love. Eclipsa Butterfly and Globgor are also from SVTFOE and honestly very sweet and adorable. While they're regarded as evil by less tolerant folk, they're honestly some of the sweetest characters you'll see on the show. I feel this is a nice contrast to their costumes, Sindel and Shao Kahn from Mortal Kombat. I went with the MK9 versions of their outfits since they were both modern and simple. Didn't wanna be THAT guy who commissions SUPER complicated outfits. I'm not a sadist! While later games would retcon Sindel into being just as evil as Shao (something thankfully corrected in MK1) I still feel this outfit and character works for Eclipsa, even if she and her hubby are as far from evil as you can get. XD

Final pic of this year is another couples pic with Danny Fenton and Paulina Sanchez. I ship these two and take no shame in it. This was originally gonna just be Paulina as Phantom Girl from Legion of Superheroes since the name and colors matched Danny perfectly. But then I figured just having Paulina in costume wouldn't be fair, so I had him dress up as Timberwolf, since I recall them having a few moments in the cartoon. A cartoon, much like this pairing, is very underrated. XD

Now to 2021! This was a fun crossover and and me deciding to avoid "themes" and combining two character pin-ups in one! Once again we have Hekapoo and this year she's dressed up as Otedamako. Who's that? Only my fave Monster of the Day from Sailor Moon! :3 To her side with have a humanoid Rarity showing off her darkside as Martha from Helluva Boss! This one came from the animated opening in G5 that had Rarity showing off some spiky teeth and a crazy look in her eyes. IMMEDIATELY brought Martha too mind. All and all, very happy with how these two came out!

And now to the prior year of 2022. By this point Aeo started coloring the stream commissions and honestly, it was worth the price increase. Dude is a machine! If this one has a theme it's basically me taking the waifus of my close friends (Chill, Terrible, and Raccoon) and dressing them as other sexy waifus. From left to right we have Himiko Toga from My Hero Academia dressed as Harlequin, the Harley Quinn of the Gods and Monsters film. A very hot/underrated design for a VERY twisted take on the character. Toga makes it work! Front and center we have Wilhamena Mettle from OK K.O.! as Starfire, specifically the comic book version for obvious reasons. XD Finally we have Juri Han from Street Fighter dressed in the tight leathers of Penelope Spectra from Danny Phantom, specifically her second form. Lot of specifics in this piece. XD

Final Fun Fact: Was tempted to have Wilhamena as Star Canary, the fusion of Starfire and Black Canary from the Batman/Superman comic. Very hot design. XD

And a bit of a bonus! I ended up really helping out a new friend on deviantART back in 2020 and got to get a bit of art as a thank you. Courtesy of XJKenny we have Meteora Butterfly, daughter of Eclipsa and Globgor as Mileena. Also her MK9 design, this not only works for Meteora herself given her story, but also matches up with her parents' costumes as well!

Well that's everything I wanted to share this year! This has been a rough year for me personally and for the world as a whole. But I'm hoping we can turn things around a bit with what bit of the year we have left.

let me debunk this clip piece by piece. 1. you literally just said that SVTFOE is inspired by Sailor Moon, the anime that really popularized and cemented the magical girl genre for the public. although it wasn't the first one, it's the one everyone immediately associate whenever "magical girl" it's mentioned. to say that SVTOFE is inspired by Sailor Moon it's already saying that it has magical girl elements and many conventions of that genre baked into it. that's what it means. even the less knowlegeable people in anime will know what Sailor Moon is and if you tell them "this is inspired by Sailor Moon", they would know what it means. the fact that you insist that needs more "qualifying" and go on this completely incoherent rant talks more about your own ignorance than anything. "this show about a magical princess that comes from another dimension to earth in order to fight bad guys was inspired by this other show about another princess from another world that comes to earth to fight bad guys" is not a confusing statement at all, so i'm confused as to what you thought was necessary to "qualify" here? LO, when people say that your video are becoming worse because you lack structure and keep pulling words that don't end up connecting to any central idea, this clip is an example of what people mean. this whole rant was entirely unnecesary and it didn't help your point come across. any editor would have told you to either remove it entirely or worded it a lot different. by your response i can see that you think you were doing something there. i promise that you didn't.

LO, Japan is not embarassed by anime. i actually don't know from where you took that one. otakus were seen as embarassing because they were our equivalent of the incel stereotype that doesn't interact with people and lives indoors all day, but even that's changing. anime by itself was always part of the cultural expression of the country. they treat Evangelion like here in the west we treat Mickey Mouse, they plaster the images of those characters everywhere in the most populated areas. similar to how you have the "baby sister" you decided to romance in baldur's gate all over your tumblr, while trying to insist you don't have incestuous attraction to your younger sibling. but at least they don't do it to flaunt their incestuous attraction. you keep projecting this image of Japan being embarassed and annoyed by the existence of anime without any evidence or even an attempt to explain how that makes any sense. the anime industry is huge, it's one of the cultural products that Japan more profits with because they can export it to the rest of the world and the rest of the world wants more of it. in what planet does it make sense that they would be "embarassed" by something like that? 3. do you want to know why nobody ever says that something was inspired by hello kitty or hamtaro, LO? that's because Hello Kitty doesn't have an actual story. it's an cutesy aesthetic around a bunch of cute characters that a company made in order to sell cute merchandize. there was to my knowledge only one show made with Hello Kitty, but i believe none of that had anything to do with the official canon of the character. if you think about it, Hello Kitty is kinda like Barbie. it's a recognizable icon completely by itself. there can be stories made with it, but Hello Kitty will never go through a character development moment and will never change. she will always be just a cute kitty, just like Barbie can be whatever is the most convenient for Mattell in any given moment. as to Hamtaron, it was just a slice of life anime about cute animals. it was cute, indeed. but it didn't do anything new that thousands of other people weren't doing after or before with their own spins on it. here, a list of anime/manga that were exactly the same as Hamtaro without being directly inspired by it because nobody really invented the "slice of life story through the perspective of a pet" genre. it took me one google search to find, there's more if you want to see. if you're so desperate for more content "like Hamtaro" it was always that easy to find. ... more so, again, what does this have to do with SVTFOE or literally any other show that isn't about cute animals being cute? about Jojo's Bizarre Adventure and nobody ever was inspired by it in the west... you have to be joking with that one.

4. the two things i circled in red are not even anime. they're games. the one with two girls hugging and looking up with fear is Rape Lay, a infamous game about raping underaged girls and their mother until you get them pregnant and they either kill you or you force them to have babies. the other one is Doki Doki Majo Shipan, a game whose main objective is that you have to undress and touch the bodies of different characters in order to find a "witch mark". many of those characters are underaged, but a few are adults and you play as a highscholer so it's still not better.

i just want to ask the following. why did you bring two games, two infamous games about touching or raping underaged bodies for that matter, when talking about SVTFOE at all? just why? what was the thought process here? how does this make your point any more clearer? how it does examplify better that "anime inspired" is bad when you don't even show anime and is instead games? anyone should seriously question why you brought this games up at all when talking about a show that was made by Disney. a show about a underaged magical princess of another world. why did your mind ever went to those games when talking about this? you just exposed, with no warning mind you, a bunch of your audience to these games to discover by themselves. you did that. and that was bad and you should feel bad about it.

Stardust and Tearduct AU is officially in the works!

Plot: When Dib was a toddler and Gaz was an infant, Prof. Membrane takes them to a meteor shower and finds a crashed ship. Inside the ship is Miyuki with unconscious Red and Purple and seemingly dead Smeet Zim. He helps her out, brings Zim back to life via electricity, removes both her and Red's and Purple's PAKs to give them a fresh start. Miyuki and Membrane get married to protect them both sides, and they raise Red (now called Flynn but also Red by his friends and family) and Purple (now called Mauve) and Zim as human children with no memories of before the crash after removing their PAKs. Miyuki disappears after 5 years (Dib and Zim: 7, Gaz: 5, Flynn and Mauve: 9 years old) of this special life and Prof. Membrane tells everyone she's in some hospital to try and help her mentally and physically but in truth he has no idea where she is.

Coraline and Norman are cousins and decided to do a joint family vacation where both Coraline and Norman brough one friend to come visit, Norman's family comes in later though since it was easier for the Jones to arrive to Gravity Falls than the Babcocks

Danny is on a special summer trip to Gravity Falls with his class for their junior to senior year and his family decided to come with

Greg doesn't remember much about the Garden Wall but Wirt remembers it very clearly and is part of a paranormal forum to hopefully find someone who can answer all the unanswered questions while dealing with the trauma of it all. They visit Gravity Falls a bit later but is one of Dib's favorite online friends from the forums.

Powerpuff Girls is only mentioned as of right now in the drafts but will be more focused later on when the gang try to figure out what Chemical X is

SVTFOE is added and technically takes place sometime after season 2-3 but me and my friend kind of didn't like the final two seasons and did a serious rewrite with some details still there but we fixed a lot of the romances so be ready lol But they come in later as they leave Gravity Falls

W.I.T.C.H. happens about a year after the end of season two and are mostly online faces and names kind of like Clover but like the Totally Spies we will see them later and I even have a lil script ready for reactions of them using their powers!

This AU will be pretty serious and angsty since I'm pretty sure a majority of the cast will be very traumatized within their canon stories, but it'll also cover the feeling of identity and discovery with Zim, Flynn, and Mauve, varies forms of grief and depression, suicide attempts and mentions of suicide, and one scene that legit made me cry between Zim and Norman as they both talk about their childhoods, Coraline having sever Claustrophobia, etc.

Membrane will be a great dad in this AU as he should be, most positive about paranormal but plays the acts of a nonbeliever around his family since he swore to Miyuki to not tell them their origins without her present, which is harder when they seem to catch on and no one knows where she is.

I'm still debating dating but I will say the main "canon" within this AU will be building up Coraline and Wybie and Star, Marco, and Tom's whole romance thing is still canon with Star and Tom being exs and some feels happening. The W.I.T.C.H. girls have their relationships from season two but will be altered or changed since some are not that fleshed out and in the comics they kind of ruined some. In this AU Sam and Danny dated but didn't last much but they could get back together. I have seen SO MANY SHIPS related to crossovers, especially Mystery Kids, and honestly there's a lot of fair arguments of a lot of them! We have a nice little roster of villains since this is a AU which means other universes with other stories, characters, and villains! Including one of my favorite mini fandoms like Mystery Kids called "The Bad End Friends", a AU world of crossovers of the main characters who becomes villains/the villains won their universes. Childhood: Was born as any other Irken, given a PAK imminently after being hatched and sent to do work, however The Almighty Tallests and the Control Brains noticed right away he's defective and Tallest Spork decides to kill him by having the Control Brains fry his PAK and forcibly removed. Miyuki escapes with the unconscious Zim, taking the Smeet Red and Purple, and escapes to the galaxy. They arrive on Earth and since then the three been raised by Miyuki and Professor Membrane on Earth

📚 Backstory 📚

Childhood: He had a pretty decent childhood, raised by his family of five and two dogs and lived on a ranch his brave scientist parents owned. Since birth he had shown how smart he is and enjoyed discovering new things. Most kids were jealous he passed classes and would exclude him in things which never bothered him, he was perfectly fine working by himself

Adolescence: His mother died via gas poisoning after years working in the lab, causing a huge rift against him and his dad that sadly never been fixed no matter what. He graduated highest of the grades and moved to Townsville to attend collage via a science scholarship

Young Adulthood: He's still awkward as usual but gotten along well with the other students in the science scholarship like Drake Utonium, plus with the fact he doesn't go home during holidays he spends more time studying and creating his first invention and research. He graduated a year earlier than planned and began his business after moving to Whiteham, buying a closed down factory as his new lab. He slowly started to feel lonely after his business picked up and upon remember his ideas of cloning the ranch animals and created Dib with similar methods of cloning with some changes of course. Dib's birth was a success and so he decided to make a sibling since he had a fun time being with his siblings growing up. When Gaz was born and Dib was turning one years old, he took them to a hill to watch the meteor shower, there he finds a huge hunk of junk and metal where a mysterious woman was clinging to three smaller forms as she barely stays awake. He takes them all back home and patches her up, learns her name is Miyuki and the Smeets she had were Red and Purple who were destined to be the next Tallests after she perish and Zim who she tells was defected at birth and sentenced to death. He removes Red and Purple's PAKs carefully (Zim didn't have his when found) and brought them back to life. He and Miyuki got close after all this and she stayed on Earth for him, raisin the Smeets as human children alongside Dib and Gaz. He invented a special wig that was applied to the Smeets that will feel, move, wash, and grow like normal hair once applied but their antennas do appear, which he and Miyuki instructed to always keep them hidden unless indoors and with them. He and Miyuki vowed to tell the kids the truth together, but then not long after the vow she disappeared. He searched for her but couldn't find her, so he decided to raise all five of them by himself as best as he can
