If SĆma & Rin (and/or any of the characters who are Supreme Chefs) have a cooking competition & some (or all) of the other characters are the judges, which one would you pick?
Who would be lenient?
Who would be reasonable?
Who would be strict?
Mako, Tohru, Iruma, and Levi would be the most lenient. For those who are surprised by Levi, keep in mind, this man has never had a real meal in basically his whole life time, so for him to taste such quality food would be a god sent.
Many of them would be, (or try to be), reasonable but my main pick would be Kobayashi or Heine, since she did have her own cooking competition with Tohru (the dragon) and Heine, while a teacher, would know the strength and weaknesses of the two.
And if this competition was just between Rin and Soma, then Chika would try to be strict, but we know that while she can cook well, sheâs not exactly on the same level as those two. Ciel would be too, since he is used to fancy food. But surprisingly, believe it or not, one of the stricter judges would be Italy.
Reason: He LOVES gourmet food, and if the food is not up to that quality, he will not hesitate to complain about it, as seen with the episode 8 of Hetalia: Axis Powers where the Allies feed him England's cooking and he immediately freaks out over it. I know he would be nicer with the kids, but I also know he would be more honest.
But to answer your overall question, I narrowed it down to three. And this is if I were to pick one from the adult, teen, and kid groups
Kobayashi OR Heine (really hard to pick) Saiki Nagisa
I tried to go for the ones who would be the most unbiased. Hope this helps!

Ayano had been acquaintanced with Kizana before. She whined a lot, complained a lot, but still was one of the most organized clubs in Akademi. The mix between people who liked her was cut 9% of people who genuinely liked her, and 90% of people who didnât like her but feared her. Ayano was likely the 1% who didn't care either way.
Info-Chan hadnât explained what else Ayano had to do regarding the gyaruâs tasks. All she claimed was that it would come in handy later. Additionally, Info-Chan suggested possibly getting a job. If not for more money, then to earn a reputation around town. Ayano didnât understand what good that would really do, but rationalized that more money was always worth the effort.
Not that that mattered at the moment. What mattered was Kizanaâs suspicious sudden interest in Taro. Truthfully, Ayano never imagined that Kizana could even be a problem. Kizana was pretty high in the popularity ranks and Taro was on a more humble scale. Not to mention she already had several students slaving after her. What could she possibly want Taro for?
Thatâs what Ayano hoped to find out, though, while she stood around a corner, trying her best to listen to the conversation that Kizana and Taro were having in front of the Drama Club room. From afar it seemed far too cozy for Ayanoâs liking.
Kizana chuckles proudly, not surprised at all at Taroâs wish to get into the club. âOf course, Iâve seen you hovering around! Twas only a matter of time before you got the courage to approach me!ïżœïżœïżœ She looks back briefly to Tsuruzo, who was accompanying her throughout the day to help her properly prepare for the play. âUs.â She corrects herself, flipping one of her drilled ponytails over her shoulder.
Tsuruzo seems happy with her correction, although he doesnât bring himself to speak just yet. Whenever a new member wanted to join, he usually left it to Kizana to do the introduction and decision-making , unless it was the case of just three weeks prior, where she was absent for a time.
âRight.â Taro chuckles lightly, seeming a bit hesitant to be interacting with someone as bumptious as Kizana. That was natural considering how quiet Taro usually was. âIâm⊠Well, Iâm not 100% sure on joining just yet, but I was wondering if I could⊠I guess volunteer to help with the play this week? Maybe get some acting tips..?â He continues, shifting his weight from one foot to the other, which Kizana seems to notice. âIâve been⊠interested in acting for a while.â
âHm.â Kizana raises a hand to her chin, nonchalantly circling Taro, which visibly makes him more nervous. Before he could stutter out some other sort of response, she smiles and leans herself on his shoulder. âOh, of course you can volunteer! Itâs really just an extra hand, isnât it? And Iâm not held responsible for whatever you screw up!â She says cheerfully, booping his nose despite her last comment.
Ayano scowls at the physical contact at all, but keeps herself quiet and still so as to not be noticed by the three. As she listens in, Info-Chan suddenly texts her.
Info-Chan: You should volunteer, too.
Info-Chan: The club already likes you generally speaking, so you should try your best to get into Kizanaâs good graces by working with her.
Ayano pauses in thought, and decides that thatâs a pretty good idea. The only two in the club currently that don't have any significant opinion about Ayano are both Shozo and Kizana, although Kizana does have good words about her from Tsuruzo. Maybe Shozo should be someone she tries to get closer to as well..
Ayanoâs thoughts are interrupted as a familiar voice calls to her.
âGood morning, Ayano.â Taro greets briefly, smiling and waving to her as he walks by.
Rather than responding in any way, Ayano just freezes in place. Her face suddenly felt incredibly hot, and Taro wasnât even nearby any more. It was thrilling whenever Taro noticed her, but it happened so out of the blue and remained so brief. If only Ayano could figure out a way to function like any human being whenever Taro was around.
Suddenly, Ayano hears someone else call to her. âAyano! Itâs always a pleasure to see you.â Tsuruzo beams at her. He likely noticed her when Taro greeted her. âYour help last week is so incredibly appreciated.â He leans in slightly, saying in a lower tone. âI donât think Iâd ever admit this to Kizana, but we were quite behind before we received your help.â
Before Ayano could respond, a sharp clear of the throat was heard behind Tsuruzo. âAhem.â It was Kizana, who looked somewhat skeptically at Tsuruzo and Ayano, although Ayano couldnât place why. âWe have errands to run, Tsuruzo. I fear this will be quite the full week.â She sighs, looking exhausted before even having gotten started.
Tsuruzo smiles at Kizana, stepping back to stand beside her. âIâve no doubt that this week will go exactly as planned, Kizana.â He assures her, which she visibly appreciates with a light smile.
âHmph. Well, I suppose itâs only right that I take your word for it.â Kizana claims, her cheeks growing slightly pink as she tosses her hair over her shoulder again.
This time, Ayano speaks up. âActually, I wanted to know if I could continue running errands for your club.â She says, looking between the two leaders. âI think I could learn some valuable information, and I have nothing but time right now.â
âHmm.â Kizana raised her hand up to her chin yet again, although her expression looked more disapproving and suspicious than the look she gave Taro. Part of Ayano wondered if Kizana simply disliked her. She seemed to like her when they first met, so what would have changed?
Kizana looked to Tsuruzo for insight, who seemed quite enthusiastic about the idea based on his bright smile. She pauses in thought before sighing. âOh, alright.â She points a finger to Ayano. âYouâll stick with me and help me run errands. Tsuruzo, if you could please deal with the Taro boy?â
Tsuruzo nods, happy to help. âOf course. See you during lunch.â He waves to both Kizana and Ayano before turning to trail after wherever Taro had gone.
As soon as he leaves, Kizanaâs suspicious expression returns as she looks at Ayano. âYan-Chan, was it? Whatâs your type?â She asks immediately, shocking Ayano slightly.
âUm.. type? You mean⊠romantically?â Ayano asks, receiving a stiff nod from Kizana as the drama club leader folded her arms.
âWellâŠâ Ayano hesitates. âI-I canât say I have a type. I do prefer, um⊠simpler, more average-looking people? I..think. Why do you ask?â Ayano was really just trying to use whatever Info-Chan had used to explain Taro, but if Ayano were to honestly explain Taro, it would be in a far more starstruck way.
Kizana didnât seem satisfied with that answer, but ignored her own thoughts to continue with their task at hand. âWell, anyway, letâs head to the auditorium, weâve things to do.â She sighs, walking ahead without waiting for Ayano to catch up.
__
As the two entered the auditorium, Ayano took in just how much effort was being put into making the area look nice. The art club was scattered around, hanging up decorations while the flower club helped to put up the many, many roses theyâd been growing over the past few months.
Floral decorations had been put all around. Even arches had been put up around every exit and entry, and large plants had been set up on the balcony to hang over and give a fancy, whimsical look. On the balcony, Sumire was walking around and watering the flowers that were hanging over the sides. She spotted Kizana and immediately leaned over.
âHey, Kizana! Uekiya wants to know if the morning glories are too long!â She calls, nearly falling off the side but quickly catching herself.
Kizana doesnât comment on that possible near-death experience and looks around at the hanging flowers, which were apparently morning glories. âI want the longer ones to be over the door way, and I want them just a few inches shorter on every one of the other ones.â She pauses before adding, âArenât these a bit⊠leafy? There are hardly any flowers!â
âWell, yeah, but the more flower-y purple flowers like clematis and wisteria are poisonous to humans, so thereâs no way we could hang those around!â Sumire explained, leaning onto the railing and proceeding to almost drop her watering can.
Kizana again ignores that possible injury and sighs. âUgh, of course. My luck is dreadful..â She sighs dramatically, leaving Sumire with a somewhat awkward expression.
âOkay, well⊠Scilla!â Sumire calls to the male, who was carrying another pot of flowers inside the auditorium. He looks up to her in question.
Sumire points to one of the many hanging plants. âDo you think you can cut any plant that isnât hanging over a doorway maybe three to five inches up?â She then drags her finger over to a bucket sitting near one of the exits. âAnd then put them in that bucket!â
Scilla nods, placing the pot of flowers down and then pulling his favorite pair of scissors out of the pocket of his gardening apron. Ayano was unsure why he was allowed to carry that around, especially considering how many accidents have been caused because of it.
Ayano turns around, realizing that Kizana had quickly left without her, and rushes to follow her. Behind the stage, Kokona was sitting in a chair, rehearsing lines as Riku worked on one of the lights, which they had apparently taken down from the ceiling of the stage.
Kokona sighs, leaning on one of the tables next to Riku. She looks at her script. âIâm just not sure whatâs wrong. I feel like my voice right now is⊠okay, but itâs missing something. Or, maybe Iâm just⊠doing it all wrong? I canât place it..â
Riku hums lightly, seeming to finish something in the light before looking up to Kokona with a smile. âPerhaps itâs because youâre mocking another narrator?â He looks back down to the light and continues working with a screwdriver. âYou usually make your voice more deep and dramatic, which leads me to believe that youâre trying to sound like someone else when you narrate.â
âI-I do? Well, I guess I knew that, but I thought it was theatrical..â Kokona claims bashfully, tilting her head as she looks at the script.
âWell, Kokona always has had an ugly habit of copying others.â Kizana claims with a huff, making her presence known in her regular unnecessary manner.
âI..â Kokona starts, but doesnât really have much to retort with that Kizana hasnât already heard.
Riku sighs, shaking his head disapprovingly at Kizana. âItâs admiration, Kizana. If you lent Kokona a hand with her hairstyles then sheâd likely be able to find a hairstyle that looked a little less than your own.â He claims. He moved aside a pile of screws and pulled a piece of the light off, looking to see what exactly could be changed to somehow fix it.
Kizana rolls her eyes. âOh, come on. Everyone knows how to function a basic set of pigtails. A ponytail? A bun? It doesnât have to- are you repairing the light?â She asks, looking shocked at that find.
âYes. I was doing a light check to see if everything worked, but this one shone strangely.â Riku explained, tapping the piece he had pulled off. âThis one looks badly dented, so I might have to try to find a tool in the workshop to help bend it back into shape.â
Kizana raises her eyebrows. âIs that right? Thatâs impressive, youâve never told me about your hardware skills.â
Riku shrugs with a light hum. âWeâve never had a busted light. It must have dented the last time it fell from the bars.â He guesses, piquing Ayanoâs interest.
âHow did it fall?â Ayano asks, probing Kokona to smile and wave at her happily. She gave a brief wave back.
âIâm pretty sure it was just old. We arenât allowed to buy any items until next Monday, so we wonât be able to repair it properly just yet.â Riku says, setting the piece of metal aside and standing up from his chair. âAh.. I think Iâm going to go check the other lights, just to be sure. Itâd be dreadful if any of them were to fall on someone.â He sighs, the thought alone chilling.
Chilling to him, at least. It sounded outstanding to Ayano. If it could fall on Kizana, that would be lovely. Then Taro would have no reason to join the Drama Club, and he would no longer have an admirer or a reason to get close to anyone in the club. That sounds perfect to Ayano, in fact. She wondered how she would go about that scheme.
Kizana clears her throat out sharply, giving Ayano another suspicious look and follows her gaze to where Riku had just left. She didnât comment on it, though, and simply went onto the matter at hand. âWe can move onto checking on Shozo and his affairs now.â She claims, turning her gaze to Kokona. âI think your narration is fine for the play, Kokona, so donât waste time doubting yourself. Itâll hold off my performance and make you more susceptible to pimples. You know this.â She hisses.
Ayano couldnât figure out if that was Kizana attempting to be nice, but she knew that it was likely that the compliment backfired immediately as it was followed by complaining. Regardless of Kizanaâs intentions, Ayano quickly followed the drama club leader out of the auditorium as they headed towards the gardening club.
__
Uekiya was busy picking seeds from flowers that seemed to have been cut previously by Scilla. She was sitting on her knees on the ground, picking up cut vines and flowers from one bucket, and then separating the seeds and leftover foliage into two other buckets. Nearby, Shozo was standing and looking at several other pots of flowers, a clipboard and pen in his hand. He seemed to be counting the amounts of plants and writing the information down.
Tucked away in a corner, Ayano hadnât even noticed him, Geiju was sitting in a chair with an art book resting on his leg. He seemed to notice Ayano and Kizana enter the garden first and immediately stood up. Flipping to a certain page, Geiju approached Kizana and lifted up his art book, revealing several shades of certain colors like red and purple pasted onto the book.
Kizana notices him approach and lifts an eyebrow at his gesture. She stares at the open page for a moment before she looks up at him, unamused. âI know you donât talk much, but you still talk. Use your two words.â She huffs, crossing her arms.
Geijuâs eyebrows lowered, looking equally displeased at her response. âPick some.â He holds his pencil out to her and points to the colors. âFor decoration.â
âDecoration..? HmmâŠâ Kizana furrows her eyebrows in thought, plucking the pen from Geijuâs hand and pulling a hand up to her chin in thought. Their interaction seems to grab the attention of Uekiya, who stands up to greet them.
âLadies!â Uekiya beams at the two, brushing her gloves off on her gardenerâs apron. âI take it youâre looking for all the details for the decorative flowers? Weâve got the flowers for the show set aside still growing so that theyâre fresh once the big day comes.â She explains, giving Ayano a brief closed-eye smile as a greeting.
Kizana circles a couple colors on Geijuâs book but turns to Uekiya with a nod. âThatâs right. I see youâve grown plenty of roses.â She looks at the corner of the garden that had been specifically cared for and dedicated for Friday. It took up nearly a full fourth of the garden due to the sheer amount of rose bushes held inside. âIt seems a bit excessive, donât you think? How am I going to use all of these? Too many flowers could be a slipping hazard, you know!â
Uekiya chuckles wryly, but nods. âI agree. I was actually going to ask you about the amount specifically. Leftover flowers are really no problem, but I wanted to know where exactly we would have to gather them. And if it would be now or later.â She waves Shozo over and points to his clipboard. âI personally recommend later just for the sake of keeping everything fresh, but we do have plenty to spare, so hypothetically we could cut a few roses and then place them in a few areas for the day, see how they feel, and then decide on something special for Friday? Just so we donât spend all day picking different patterns to put them in.â
âHmm, wellâŠâ Kizana allows herself to look back over to Geijuâs art book as she thinks, successfully picking which colors she would like for what while directing Uekiya what to do with certain plants.
Ayano watched her jump between the two of them, before she dragged her gaze over to Shozo. The male in question seemed to have noticed something on his clipboard. With furrowed eyebrows, he scribbled something onto the clipboard with a frustrated frown. Seeing this as a chance to be helpful, she walked closer to Shozo.
âHello, Shozo. Is something the matter?â Ayano asks, folding her hands in front of her lap with a curious expression. She wasnât yet sure what sort of company Shozo preferred, so she couldnât pull up a particular persona just yet.
Shozo nodded as a greeting, but his frown deepened at the question. âYeah. Just a mistake, really.â He explains briefly, but after seeing Ayanoâs curious expression, he decided to explain further. âWell⊠In return for the gardening club using their funds and resources to get us so many flowers for decoration, we were going to offer some of our funds in order to get them more important resources like fertilizer. Unfortunately, I misread the count of how much they needed and now they have less than we promised. We wonât be able to get any more in until next week, which is really inconvenient for them.â
Ayano frowns as well, trying her best to seem sympathetic. âThatâs unfortunate. How many bags are you missing?â She asks. Her plan was to buy the bags for him, and she was wondering if she could afford it at all.
Although he looked confused as to why Ayano was asking at all, Shozo did eventually respond. âSix bags.â He says, âIt probably doesnât sound like much, but thatâs 60 pounds Uekiyaâs missing for the plants that weâre asking her to grow for us. And sheâs going all out, even with the limited supply.â He looks a bit disappointed in himself at the mistake heâs made, but doesnât go into it.
âI take it, it's not an option to just have someone else buy it?â Ayano asks, raising a hand to her chin in thought.
âFor $120? Weâd rather leave that amount for the school funds.â Shozo grins slightly, but itâs only to give a mocking scoff. âItâs not like many of us in the club have the best income from our personal lives. Whatever Kokona and Tokuko make are meant to be saved for their own personal reasons, Tsuruzo doesnât make enough to spend on the club, I donât even have a job, Rikuâs parents donât let him spend money on school activities, and Kizana..?â
Shozo looked over to the purple-haired girl in question as she seemed to finish up her conversation with the two club leaders. â...I mean, she is one of the richest students in the school, but she was against paying Uekiya at all. From her perspective, she was asking Uekiya to do something she loved for her using the schoolâs funds.â
âI see. I guess the odds are just stacked against you right now.â Ayano says, shaking her head, âSorry to hear that.â
Shozoâs expression lightens up a bit at the sympathy and he shrugs a bit. âSnags like this happen. Itâs nothing out of the ordinary.â He pauses, before nodding at Ayano, âI⊠appreciate the sympathy, though.â
A sharp snap of Kizanaâs fingers snatches Ayanoâs attention. âWeâre done here, Ayano.â She claims, not waiting for Ayano to respond before leaving the area.
Ayano nods as a goodbye to the three other students, before quickly following her.
__
As the two walk, Kizana remains silent, outside of occasional responses to greetings. For some reason, Kizana seemed a tad bit stiff- or at least far more from when the two had first met. Perhaps those first encounters were just for the sake of flattery, and now she had no reason to show such politeness? That would definitely emphasize how bad of a choice she was for Taro.
Ayanoâs phone buzzes, and she sees that Info-Chan has left her a bit of free information on Kizana.
Info-Chan: I see you have your eye on Kizana! ;D
Info-Chan: Thankfully, I can give you all the information you need to confirm your suspicions!
Info-Chan:
Name: Kizana Sunobu
Gender: Female
Class: 3-2
Club: Drama
Persona: Lovestruck
Reputation:
Overall: +63
Liked: -10
Respected: +100
Feared: +100
Crush: Taro Yamada
Strength: Incapable
Likes & Dislikes:
Likes: Drama, Gossip, Art, Money, Socializing
Dislikes: Music, Violence, Martial Arts, Solitude, Anime
Ayanoâs brows furrow as she reads the information given to her. It was already somewhat obvious that Kizana liked attention, but she didnât know that she had a full-on crush on Taro. That explained her spontaneous interest.
Yan-Chan: So she does have a crush on him?
Info-Chan: Thatâs what I said :)
Info-Chan: The better question is, what are you going to do about it?
Pausing in thought, Ayano thinks. What could she do? More likely than not, Kizana is going to spend most of her time around others planning and practicing for the play. Maybe there was a way to get closer to her so she could convince her to come somewhere private. But even soâŠ
Ayano looks up to Kizanaâs back as the club leader walks as prim as ever. As she stared, she wondered how exactly she would get close to Kizana considering the kind of person she is. Doing favors was a start, but she needed to prove to Kizana that she was more than just a servant girl. But how?
As Ayano repeated the exact same question to herself over and over again in an attempt to think, Kizanaâs phone suddenly rang. Kizana sighs, seeming somewhat stressed and unwilling to answer a call at the moment. Still, as she looked at the called ID, she seemed to relax, and almost seem a bit brighter after seeing whoever it was.
Kizana looks at Ayano and points a finger to her. âYou stay here. We still have things to do.â She says, leaving Ayano at the entrance of the school as she walks back outside to take the call. She didnât go too far, and her loud voice was clear enough for Ayano to hear if she took a few steps closer.
âHello, mother! How are y..you⊠huh?â Kizanaâs bright answer immediately dwindled down into a confused mumbled as the other person on the phone- her mother- speaks. After a second, Kizana nods, âWell, yes, I understand. Did⊠something bad happen..?â She asks hesitantly, raising a hand to her chest. Her demeanor immediately shrunk from confident to deathly worried just by whatever her mother had said.
Suddenly, Kizana nearly screeches, âWh-What?! But- But IâŠâ She pauses for another moment, allowing her mother to speak, before her voice escalates further. â..I-I know, I- I believed that would be a choice, but⊠I⊠I have- I have everything I could want here, mom, I donâtââ After another response from her mother, Kizana quiets down significantly, â...but I donât want to. Why take such drastic measures..? Iââ
Once again, Kizana is cut off, and for a few moments, her responses are nothing short of weak hums and quiet, reluctant confirmations. âIâŠI understandâŠâ She mutters, hanging her head in defeat. After another mumble, she hangs up, looking down at her phone.
Kizana sighs first, before raising a hand to massage her temple with a long groan. âPerfectâŠâ She hisses to herself.
Ayano takes this time to return to her spot and look away from Kizana, appearing as nonchalant and uninformed as possible. Kizana eventually strides back, looking practically the same outside of a more harsh gaze. âCome.â She demands simply, once again walking ahead without bothering to wait for Ayanoâs reply. Bad mood or not, this proved that Kizana really just was this type of person. Not that Ayano minded. More fuel to use against her, she rationalized.
Again, Info-Chan texted Ayano.
Info-Chan: Look at you! Learning and stuff :3
Info-Chan: Now you should keep an eye on whoever seems closest to Kizana, see if sheâll speak to them about whatever her distress is about.
Yan-Chan: Right.
Yan-Chan: I feel as though Tsuruzo might be that person in Kizanaâs case.
Yan-Chan: Iâll keep an extra close eye on him.
Info-Chan: As you should!
Info-Chan: And hereâs your last tip of the day-
Info-Chan: Study biology and physical ed in all of your free time!
Info-Chan: Youâre sincerely going to need it ^^
__
âThanks for showing me around, Tsuruzo! It definitely seems like joining the Drama Club would be a good idea. Still, I think Iâll stick to volunteering for now.â Taro says, smiling at the taller male.
Tsuruzo nods reassuringly. âDonât you worry! You wouldnât be the first. Still, youâve expressed the most interest in this club out of anyone, and Kizana seems to have very high hopes for you.â He chuckles confidently, âIâm sure we can find a way to fit you comfortably in the club.â
Tsuruzo immediately spotted Kizana from across the hall, and led Taro over to her. âHello, Kizana.â He looks around briefly, realizing that Ayano was no longer with her. âWhere might Ayano be?â
Kizana huffs, although Tsuruzo couldnât place what exactly that exasperated action was directed to. The purple-haired girl tossed one of her drilled pigtails over her shoulder for the nth time that day and responded quickly. âSheâs off running some errands. As am I. What about you and our possible-newest member?â She asks, shooting Taro a charming smile.
Taro smiled bashfully at Kizanaâs attention, and nervously rubbed the back of his neck. âWell, Iâm certainly interested. Iâm still debating on actually joining, though. Iâll definitely need more than a day or two.â
Kizana didnât seem too bothered by this answer, and instead shot him a confident smile. âWell, youâve all the time in the world.â She then shrugs, âNot really, but you get my point. Take your time, darling! No decisions are good decisions if theyâre rushed.â
âI agree.â Taro responds, looking happy at Kizanaâs reassurance.
âIf you end up being particularly talented, you could even earn the role of Romeo, you know.â Kizana claims.
Taro seemed excited and anxious about that opportunity, although Kizana didnât miss how Tsuruzo stiffened and looked at her in question at her statement. âThat sounds exciting! Iâll make sure to work hard.â Taro claims, smiling happily at the thought.
The school bell rang and Taro took that as his time to leave. âIâm going to head to class now. See you there, Kizana.â He says, waving briefly to both her and Tsuruzo.
After he was out of earshot, Tsuruzo gave Kizana a troubled look. âThe role of Romeo, Kizana?â He repeated her words, although he was significantly lacking his usual bravado.
Kizana hums, her voice and expression lax as she smiles at Tsuruzo. âOh, donât you worry about that.â She swats her hand back and forth dismissively, stepping right next to Tsuruzo to hang onto his arm. âConsider it a method of encouragement for the poor thing. Heâd have to be⊠be Toshiro Mifune to replace you.â
Even as Tsuruzo seems to relax slightly at her reassurance, Kizana lifted a hand to guide his face to look at her. âIâve seen how hard you work. Iâd have to be stupid not to.â She smiles charismatically as Tsuruzoâs face slowly turns more and more red. âI hope youâre not insinuating that you think Iâm stupid, Tsuruzo.â She hums in a low tone.
After struggling for a moment, Tsuruzo exhales, his face far more red than he would have liked. âIfâŠIf I didnât know any better, Iâd assume that you were trying to.. distract me.â He says, again internally punching himself for not sounding as charismatic as he attempted to.
Kizanaâs facade eventually falls and she forces herself to look away and let go of him before he can see the redness of her own face. She sputters, trying her best to sound as offended and confident as possible. âThe fact that you arenât distracted is insulting.â She huffs, sheepishly twirling one of her drilled ponytails around her fingers.
Tsuruzo leans over just a bit, trying to catch a glance at her face, but is interrupted by a sharp âahemâ coming from behind them.
Tokuko stood with an irritated expression, her hands on her hips. She looked more tired than usual, and even her hair looked unintentionally more high-volume than it usually was. The only reason Kizana would say that it looked bad is because she wasnât used to Tokuko doing anything different with her hair outside of performances.
âYou know, teenagers like you usually do that in bathrooms or storage closets.â Tokuko claimed, her voice filled with a judgemental tone, although this wasnât unusual for her.
With a roll of her eyes, Kizana crosses her arms. âTokuko, I havenât seen you all day. I see youâre starting your day with the energy of Juliet in act 5.â She grins, raising her eyebrows. âScene 3.â
âDead?â Tokuko guessed, crossing her arms as well, as if trying to mock Kizanaâs sass.
âUnhelpful.â Kizana smirks, although sheâs only rewarded by Tokuko rolling her eyes.
Tsuruzo smiles at their banter before leaning down a bit to Kizana. âIâm heading to class. See you after.â He says, briefly placing his hand on her back before leaving the two ladies to bicker.
Tokuko watches him leave and returns to glaring at Kizana. âI request more time to myself rather than practice this week.â She says, although her tone attempted to emphasize that this was something she planned on doing more than something she was asking permission for.
âSure.â Kizana shrugs, before immediately hissing, âIf you want to fail.â
âA little time away from practice wonât deteriorate my skills, Kizana.â Tokuko sighs, rolling her eyes yet again- something she found she did often when she was in Kizanaâs presence.
Kizana scoffs. âIt will with you no longer taking those voice lessons. Do you know what all the melodies you need to sing during the performance are? Do you have a list or an idea or a plan?â
Tokuko groans. âIâm just asking for a little time to myself, Kizana. Iâve taken on that new job- I need some time to destress.â
âDestressing, Tokuko,â Kizana begins, placing a hand on her hip and giving her clubmate a nasty look, âis for after school. Not club time. Not practice time.â She scoffs, sounding offended at Tokukoâs suggestion. âYou shouldnât choose an important time like practice for your âdestressingâ. Especially time that may drag my progress down. Weâre depending on a vocalist and thatâs all you do.â
Kizana points an accusatory finger at Tokuko with a strict expression. âTake all the time you need. But if your âdestressingâ ruins our performance, Tokuko, you will not be forgiven.â She says before adding with a calmer, although just as stern expression, âYou understand, donât you?â
What Tokukoâs answer was didnât matter to Kizana, as she simply walked past her in order to get to class. Tokuko scoffs, now left alone in the hall. Part of her feels like even if Kizana had given her the time with no questions asked, sheâd still find a way to ruin Tokukoâs mood.
Before she could dwell on it further, a familiar ding tone erupted from her phone. Her mood immediately grew calmer at who was texting her- a friend she could only contact online. Equally, a friend she didnât think sheâd ever have since she was hardly online before she got in contact with this guy.
Clandestein: I sense negative energy!! :0
ToKita: Howâd you know?
Clandestein: Holy shit I was right?
Clandestein: Whom must we murder? :(
ToKita: My club leader, lol
Clandestein: You mean the super, super vain one?
ToKita: Iâd call that description vague if I didnât know you lol
Clandestein: Her pf aaaalways pops up in my recommended because you two are friended
Clandestein: Also cuz she has like
Clandestein: Almost a million followers :|
ToKita: Wy to rub it in my face :(
ToKita: *Way
Clandestein: But âWyâ is she bothering you so much anyway?
ToKita: Jerk.
ToKita: You know how I just got that job?
Clandestein: Yup, that hostess one?
Clandestein: Wish I could drop by for a bite :P
ToKita: The food is revolting, donât worry.
Clandestein: Iâd pay to see you :D
ToKita: Youâd pay $50 for a glass of water to see me?
Clandestein: Wtf
ToKita: Thought so.
ToKita: Aaaaanyway..
ToKita: I canât catch much of a break since my job lets me off late, so Iâm trying to catch a break while at school.
Clandestein: (Mission Impossible)
ToKita: But sheâs super absorbed in this performance weâre doing at the end of the week
ToKita: And she doesnât want me to take a break :(
Clandestein: Betcha sheâll take plenty of breaks.
ToKita: She would!
ToKita: Sheâs always been this way.
ToKita: Itâs the whole reason Iâm convinced that any friends she has are paid
Clandestein: LOL
Clandestein: Thatâd be hilarious. At least you know that you have more friends than her! ;D
ToKita: That I do.
ToKita: I wish someone would just give her a scare :(
ToKita: Sheâs too lax and way overconfident
ToKita: Iâm usually above pranks but Iâd love to scare her at this point with one
Clandestein: If you do make sure you send a video to me!!!!!
Clandestein: Imagine itâs like a stalker serial-killer moment
Clandestein: Like, she keeps looking over her shoulder, thinking someoneâs following her
Clandestein: And when she finally investigates, no oneâs there!
Clandestein: She turns around, âOh, well⊠must have been the windâŠâ
Clandestein: And then BOOM!
Clandestein: Oni mask to the face!!
ToKita: I want to see that sooooooo bad!!
Clandestein: Your wish is my command! :DDDDD
ToKita: Ha, I wish.
Clandestein: Iâll send my good vibes your way!
Clandestein: Hopefully Kizana stubs her toe on her way home
Clandestein: Whoo!
ToKita: Whoo.
ToKita: lol ^^
Tokuko turns off her phone and begins heading to class. âClandesteinâ- whoâs real name was apparently just âSteinâ- was a fun character. Not even a friend Tokuko would imagine herself having if it werenât for his funny remarks about whoever Tokuko complained about. Although that was usually just Kizana.
Still, he did always make her feel better. And frankly, he might be the sole reason sheâs still dealing with Kizanaâs unnecessary sass. She wasnât sure what sheâd do without him.

The Boy and the Heron
Movies watched in 2023
The Boy and the Heron (2023, Japan)
Director & Writer: Hayao Miyazaki
Mini-review:
What a wonderful film. I knew Hayao Miyazaki would not disappoint me, but I didn't think I'd love The Boy and the Heron this much. I'm really glad I stayed away from all the promotional material, as Ghibli originally intended, cause that allowed me to be taken by surprise by this story, this world and these characters. It's definitely Miyazaki's weirdest and most esoteric film, and one of his most ambitious too. But that Ghibli magic we all love so much is as present as ever, and the movie is just so original. I really can't think of any other films like this one, and it kept me enthralled during its entire run. Its fascinating rumination on life, death and grief takes center stage through some of the smoothest and most delightful animation I have ever seen. Not to mention the character and creature designs, which are among Miyazaki's most fun work. To sum up, this is a must-watch for any Ghibli fans, and I recommend going in as blind as possible.

Uchusen Vol.186 (Autumn 2024) Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger | Detail of Super Sentai ft. Main Cast Interviews (translation below)
Publication: October 1, 2024 (between episode 31-32)
Iuchi Haruhi x Hayama Yuki x Suzuki Miu Saito Ryu x Soma Satoru x Miyazawa Yu
"Filming will start to move into the endgame, so do you feel that your teamwork is now fully established?"
Iuchi: If we're talking about team workâŠâŠto be honest, yesterday, including Hashiyasume-san, the seven of us went out to eat for the first time (laughs).
Suzuki: She'd been talking about "wanting to go" for awhile, and it just so happened that we all finished filming together, so when we invited her she said, "Definitely, let's go!" We all ate yakitori together and had alot of fun!
Soma: It was an exciting time.
Suzuki: It was fun, wasn't it? We saw new sides of each other.
Iuchi: We're often split up when we go out to eat, but this was the first time we were all together with Hashiyasume-san included.
Suzuki: Still, since there's always someone who can't make it, that might've also been the first time all six of us were together.
Hayama: That may be true. However, when we went out to eat, Hashiyasume-san said, "I know this is alittle late, but I don't know you guys very well," and so we introduced ourselves again. We started with basic info, such as our ages and the agencies we belong to (laughs).
Suzuki: When I came back to my seat after leaving for abit, Hashiyasume-san was saying things like, "Everyone's doing their best!," but what were you guys talking about?
Soma: I think it was about our auditions for Boonboomger. Hashiyasume-san asked us, "How'd you all get in?" and when we said, "We had to do countless auditionsâŠâŠ" she was like "That must've been tough!"
Suzuki: Ah, I didn't know that.
"Was that the first time you spoke about private matters?"
Miyazawa: Outside of filming, yeah.
Suzuki: When we're filming, we don't have that much time to talk. That's why it's been alot of fun talking about so many different things!
"In the first place, when you're filming every day, you don't have much time for your private lives."
Hayama: Also, on the topic of foodâŠâŠin the curry shop run by the Hashiriyans, the four of them - Ishiro, Jou, Sakito and Byun Diesel, finish eating curry in one bite (episode 31), but those scenes were filmed with us eating normally and then being sped up in the broadcast. However, when filming, Miyazawa-kun was eating so slowlyâŠâŠRyu and I kept acting as if we were scooping at curry that was already gone so that the timing for the end of the meal would match. It was already really late, and when I glanced over halfway through, his still hadn't decreased at all (laughs).
Miyazawa: Ideally, the four of us should've finished eating at the same time. That's why before filming, when everyone was nervous and said, "Will we be able to eat all of it?," I said stuff like, "Don't worry, in fact, if you're nervous, you won't be able to eat, so it's best not to tense up." HoweverâŠâŠ.once we started and I looked up at Ryu in front of me, by the time I had eaten about a third of mine, he was already halfway done with his, and I thought to myself, "This ain't good"âŠâŠ
Suzuki: I'd be in a hurry (laughs).
Miyazawa: It's good because you guys are young, but once you get older, you won't be able to take it all in. I did my best to shovel it in my mouth in one go, but I just can't swallow it at all.
Hayama: When I had about three bites left, Ryu had already finished eating, but even though he was told, "Keep acting like you're eating," for some reason, he just waited patiently, which was also funny (laughs). Furthermore, when I saw Byundi in front of me, he couldn't eat because he was wearing a mask, so he had to continue to pretend to eat. More than that, Sakito, who was across from me, looked like he was in pain while eating, and it was really hard to hold back my laughter in that moment (laughs).
Miyazawa: I'm often teased because of my age. You guys oughta have alittle more respect for your elders! (laughs).
Hayama: We're always screwing with him (laughs).
Suzuki: It's proof that we're good friends, don't you think? (laughs).
"The story is also becoming more and more interesting."
Miyazawa: Recently, I think Genba's withdrawal (episode 27) is definitely worth watching. Satoru made the atmosphere serious, and I got the feeling that "we also had to do our best."
Suzuki: Normally, he really screws around (laughs), but when it comes to work, his face changes. I also think it's amazing that he always observes and studies the performance of Ono-san, his Suit Actor.
Iuchi: Is it just me, or does his acting seem to have gotten even more colorful recently?
Hayama: For some reason, I feel like Satoru-kun's expressions have changed recently.
"Does this mean that the role has become your own?"
Soma: No, no, I am honored though (laughs). Still, since the focus is on Genba due to his withdrawal, I feel that I have to work harder, and there are parts of his past that'll be revealed and foreshadowing resolved, so I have to make sure that I clearly convey them. I feel that this awareness is stronger than ever before.
"Is it also challenging to do the makeup when you change into his Bureki form?"
Soma: On its own, the makeup only takes about an hour, but I think the challenging part is for the makeup artist rather than myself (laughs). First I'm filmed as Genba, become Bureki after that, and then was filmed as Genba once more, so that was abit challenging. As for some behind the scenes storiesâŠâŠmy skin is fairly tan, but when you combine that with the long white hair, it ends up giving me an unintended "gyaruo" look (laughs), so I use foundation to whiten my skin abit.
Saito: I think the contacts are also pretty challenging, no?
Soma: I wear colored contacts when I'm Bureki, but the pupils are vertical just like a cat's. However, when I blink, the pupils can't help but spin around and the angle becomes misaligned, so we have to reangle them every time.
Suzuki: Because of that, you try not to blink as much as possible during filming. Even though your eyes are drier than usual when you have contacts in, it's alot of trouble since you can't blink.
Soma: Still, there are some eye performances where you deliberately blink, right? That's why when we were filming in dry places, there were times when my contacts would fall out.
"Nevertheless, Genba's withdrawal was a shocking and abrupt development."
Soma: It was a huge development, I didn't expect that I'd be leaving.
Miyazawa: The scene where Genba walks away was good.
Hayama: It was good, wasn't it? It was abit dark on set that day of that shoot.
Soma: The mood was pretty rough.
Iuchi: On the way home too, everyone was silent.
Suzuki: Everyone was depressedâŠâŠ
Saito: Furthermore, the following week, Genba was removed from the opening. In addition, it starts from the end of the previous episode and leads into the opening, and Zawa-nii and I were saying, "This definitely isn't gonna be good for the people watching!"
Suzuki: You know about the picture of that girl who cried "Don't quit!" that was sent to Satorun on SNS, right?
Soma: I thought, "Yeah, I'm sorry"âŠâŠbut, well, it's my job.
Suzuki: To shatter her dreams even further?! (laughs).
Miyazawa: I wanted to tell her, "Just hold out alittle longer!"
Soma: Seeing photos like that still breaks my heart. Unlike in the past, we can now see direct reactions on SNS, but I have mixed feelings about this, as it's both gratifying and saddening (laughs).
"The untransformed action scenes seem to have increased, but what do you think about filming action?"
Hayama: I really don't have much confidence in myself. I'm just trying to get by with the power of editing.
Miyazawa: Episodes like the boxing one (episode 29) were really cool.
Hayama: That was through the power of editing (laughs).
Saito: Still, didn't BoonBlue's Suit Actor Yone-san (Yoneoka Takahiro) say, "I was very impressed with Yuki-kun's action skills"?
Suzuki: I guess you "leveled up" without even realizing it, huh?
Hayama: No, I've done nothing but work on my body. Around the beginning, I talked to Takahiro-kun about how I was, "Curious about the difference in our body shape before and after transforming." Takahiro seemed to also be concerned about that.
Suzuki: Yone-san's build is pretty amazing, isn't it? (laughs).
Hayama: I was really slender at the time, and we wanted to create a stronger link between us, so we decided on it with, "Alright, Takahiro-kun will lose weight and I'll get bulkier."
Suzuki: You were like, "Let's just meet in the middle" (laughs).
Hayama: Right, we decided to compromise with each other, so maybe that's why I started going to the gym. I was never the exercising type, but I feel like I have alot more stamina now.
Suzuki: Did Yone-san ever get thin?
Hayama: Takahiro-kun is actually fairly thin. The last time I saw him in his BoonBlue suit, it was wrinkled and had alittle extra room.
Suzuki: Eh, amazing!
Hayama: That really surprised me.
Miyazawa: Yuki was happy too.
Hayama: I was very happy (laughs).
"What other action scenes impressed you the most?"
Iuchi: While in his Bureki form, Satoru-kun did some wire action, and it was amazing.
Soma: I was able to do it because I had practiced in advance, but it was still more difficult than I had imagined. You have to balance in the air, so you've got to have a strong core.
Saito: When I looked at you after it was over, you had marks all over your body from the wire rubbing against you.
Soma: I didn't realize it while I was doing it.
Hayama: The action reminded me of the scene in the episode where Sakito first appears (episode 16), where he and Taiya fight in the parking garage. That was really cool, and Haruhi's athletic abilityâŠâŠI was surprised it wasn't terrible (laughs). Well, it's not that Haruhi's ability isn't good, it's just my own biased opinion.
Suzuki: Haruhi-kun's hobbies include reading and playing the guitar, so you can't help but get the impression that he's an indoor person. And yet, when he does action, he's actually very lively.
Miyazawa: Surprisingly, he likes exercising and action, and when we play futsal together, he has more fun than anyone else.
Iuchi: Personally, I'm really jealous that Genba takes on an alien form. That's why I've been appealing to the Directors and Producers with, "How about a development where Taiya also becomes an alien?" When I become an alien, I'd like to do some wire action, cause some explosions with napalm shooting out of my hands, and in the end, fall into some water and vanish.
Soma: In other words, you just want to do all the actions that only tokusatsu can offer, so it's basically just an "assortment of things you wanna do" (laughs).
Miyazawa: Seems like a happy meal of tokusatsu actions (laughs).
"What developments are you looking forward to in the future?"
Iuchi: What I'm most concerned about now is Sakito. When I watch, I feel that he still hasn't become a member of Boonboomger, or rather, he's become one of them, but his position is alittle different from the other members. He's always with Byundi, and they tend to act separately from us.
"You're not wrong, they give off the vibes that make them seem like a separate team."
Iuchi: Right. So, as the story progresses, and we all move toward our dream of the BBG, will Sakito move forward with us, or will he go off somewhere else?âŠâŠ
Miyazawa: It's true that Taiya and the others have big dreams, but Sakito's goals haven't been revealed in the main story yet. Previously he said, "My dream is to watch the fireworks with you guys."
Suzuki: That was an easily achievable goal (laughs). Still, that scene turned out cool.
Miyazawa: We may find out about it in the future, or maybe it just hasn't been made clear yet.
Suzuki: That being said, while each of them is depicted as growing, Taiya's still one step behind, and there's something mysterious about him. I'm pretty curious to see how he'll grow from here.
Miyazawa: Regarding Taiya, although his growth is depicted through things like his battles with Madrex, I get the impression that there's still alot that hasn't been revealed about him. Other than that, the only other story that focused on him was the episode of his first love (episode 24).
Suzuki: That's right.
"As we reach the climax, will this be discussed together along with the situation regarding Naito Raita-san?"
Iuchi: Yes, a disturbing topic will be brought up (laughs). Depending on how things unfold, I might cry for real.
Suzuki: We also don't know anything yet.
Hayama: Taiya and Naito-san are old acquaintances.
Iuchi: There may even be an episode where Taiya withdrawsâŠâŠ?
Saito: Is that because all you want to do is use napalm and fall into water?
Iuchi: I've been caught (laughs).
Hayama: I also wonder how Tokoyari Eiichiro-san, the ISA Director, will interact with us in the future. He has a connection with Ishiro, but it hasn't been depicted in detail yet, so he's almost certainly going to be an enemy.
Suzuki: Well, that's how he's been portrayed (laughs).
Hayama: I'm really curious to see how he'll clash with us in the future.
Iuchi: I'm saying this as a viewer, but I'm also curious to see what'll happen to the Sanseaters. There are alot of fans of the Voice Actors, and while they're villains, they're characters that you just can't hate.
Hayama: In that sense, this job is a dream come true for an anime lover like me. Like, there's Morikubo Showtaro-san who plays DisraceâŠâŠ
Suzuki: In any case, the Voice Actors are just too extravagant.
Hayama: I had the chance to talk with Madrex's Kamiya-san the other day, and his natural voice was just like the soldier captain in that one anime. I thought, "I'm talking to my idol right now!," and my excitement was steadily cranking up (laughs).
"This is a benefit only Sentai can offer."
Suzuki: When I observe the Voice Actors recording, I can tell that the way they use their voices are completely different. It's not so much the volume of their voice, but the tone, like the way it resonates even if they don't speak loudly.
Hayama: When I observe Voice Actors recording, they're on such a different level, that I honestly wonder, "How do I even learn what to do?" (laughs).
Suzuki: Still, when I spoke with Bundorio's Matsumoto Rika-san, she told me, "We Voice Actors play the characters, but since everyone acts out the characters themselves and then provide their own voices after they transform, I think it's better if you do it in your natural voice for realism." That's definitely something I agree with.
"And now finally, please give a message to the fans."
Miyazawa: I think the story is gradually reaching its climax, but I wonder how everyone in Boonboomger will grow and develop from now onâŠ..the same is true for Genba, but I'm sure we'll be able to see each person's own vision, including their relationship with Sakito and the Sanseaters, who tend to act alone, so I hope that you'll pay attention to this area and enjoy the story to the very end as it reaches the most interesting part.
Soma: Lately, I think each and every episode has been pretty intense, including what Genba's been doing since he left, but I wonder how the Boonboomgers will reunite from here. In the future, I think there'll be a boss to fight towards the end, and there's really alot left that's yet to be revealed. Even with that in mind, you'll still be able to enjoy it, and I think it's an interesting enough show that you could watch again from the beginning to check for the foreshadowing!
Hayama: Including the six of us, each character and their backgrounds are being depicted more and more intensely as of late. Especially now that Taiya and the others dreams of the BBG are being discussed in more detail, I'm also looking forward to seeing what'll happen. Then of course, there's Champion Boonboomger. I hope you'll enjoy the new evolution of the Boonboomgers.
Suzuki: Boonboomger is a group of professionals known by "-ers" and I think they're strong because it's a group of six people who each have their own strengths. However, with Genba's departure, I'm sure that it's not only us, but also the viewers who have been able to realize how significant it is when one person is missing. I hope you'll look forward to the drama of whether Genba will come back and what his friends will do.
Saito: The ultimate goal of Boonboomgers story is the BBG, but I think there are many more details to be explored, including Genba's story, so please look forward to that first. Also, please pay attention to the guest appearance of ToQger! This is the most recent appearance of a senior Sentai following Go-Onger, so I hope you'll look forward to future developments and seeing what kind of "spice" they'll add to Boonboomger.
Iuchi: When Genba left in episode 27, there was alot of reactions like, "He'll come back soon, right?," but even after a few weeks, he still hasn't come back. Including the appearance of Champion Boonboomger, I hope you'll pay attention to how everyone in Boonboomger grows by overcoming this predicament. Also, this was a personal request and something to look forward to, but although there was a story about Taiya's first love during his childhood, the very core of his past, such as "I can't sit still when I hear a scream," hasn't been explored yet. That's why I think It'd be good if we could delve deeper into Taiya's roots, along with his relationship with Naito-san. I'm really looking forward to it myself, and I hope that the fans will enjoy it too!
